Once upon a time in the bustling souks of Marrakech, there lived a talented young chef named Ahmed. Ahmed was known far and wide for his culinary prowess, particularly when it came to crafting the most mouthwatering Moroccan dishes.
One sunny afternoon, as Ahmed was browsing the vibrant market stalls for fresh ingredients, he stumbled upon a curious sight—a crate overflowing with the juiciest lemons he had ever seen. Inspired by this fortuitous find, Ahmed decided to create a new recipe that would showcase the bright and zesty flavors of these magnificent lemons.
Heading back to his kitchen, Ahmed set to work preparing his masterpiece—Moroccan Lemon Chicken Oven Roasted, or Djaj Mqualli as it was known in his homeland. He carefully seasoned the succulent chicken with a blend of aromatic spices, including cumin, paprika, and turmeric, before generously squeezing fresh lemon juice over the top.
As the chicken roasted in the oven, filling the air with tantalizing aromas, Ahmed couldn't help but hum a cheerful tune. Little did he know, his melodious singing had attracted the attention of a mischievous little genie who had been lurking nearby.
Intrigued by the delicious scent wafting from Ahmed's kitchen, the genie decided to pay him a visit. With a mischievous twinkle in his eye, the genie waved his magic wand and cast a spell over the chicken, infusing it with an extra dose of lemony goodness.
When Ahmed opened the oven to check on his creation, he was amazed to find that the chicken had transformed into the most delectable dish he had ever laid eyes on. Tender and juicy, with a tantalizing citrus flavor that danced on the taste buds, it was truly a feast fit for a sultan.
Word of Ahmed's extraordinary Moroccan Lemon Chicken Oven Roasted spread like wildfire throughout Marrakech, and soon people from far and wide were flocking to his restaurant to sample the magical dish for themselves. From that day forward, Ahmed's Djaj Mqualli became a beloved staple of Moroccan cuisine, cherished by all who had the pleasure of tasting it. And as for the mischievous little genie? Well, let's just say he was never far from Ahmed's kitchen, always eager to lend a hand—or a sprinkle of magic—whenever needed.

from this article by the morning news about War of Faith { The youth growth drama "War of Faith" has concluded with high reputation, and the main creator reveals the behind-the-scenes } :
Tumblr media
Use the warm human undertones to break the sad and cold era, and use the growth of the youth of the times to inspire the progress of contemporary youth.
The contemporary youth growth drama "War of Faith" starring @UNIQ-王一博, @李清and 王阳 officially ended on April 8. Audiences and netizens are discussing the plot and famous scenes with great enthusiasm. What kind of story is behind the creation is revealed by chief director Yao Xiaofeng and chief producer Zhang Shuwei.
A new exploration of revolutionary historical themes
"How to tell Chinese stories well is the core issue in today's film and television drama market. How can works with revolutionary historical themes continue to inspire new culture influence? how can modern revolutionary historical themes be kept fresh? This is the first problem I encountered in the creation of "War of Faith". I want to dig into this period of history that everyone is familiar with. the creation, differentiation and uniqueness have become one of the most important starting points for selecting the theme of the work." Chief Director Yao Xiaofeng said.
He added, "We have noticed that this is an extremely rare perspective of the revolution that is almost never highlighted, that is, the economic front. The revolutionary cause requires the support of economic power. On the economic front, how did the soldiers who came one after another implement their ideals and belief? this opens up a new corner for everyone to have a deeper understanding of that era." From this, with a new perspective, we re-enter and deconstruct a familiar period of modern revolutionary history, grafting new characters, and integrating new elements , a new exploration of film and television works with revolutionary historical themes, a comprehensive and three-dimensional presentation of the construction logic and inner spirit of Chinese stories, awakening contemporary youth to establish historical confidence, firm goals, and the power to reshape beliefs, inherit the red gene, and promote the values and reality of the times. The reference significance has become the original intention of creating the work "War of Faith".
"In this specific historical period, in the invisible smoke, what kind of thrilling things happened? What kind of courage and will were displayed in the red financial career and the turbulent life and death battle? We have selected a The representative perspective of a little person, with reference to real financial examples of the Republic of China, uses his growth and changes to witness the step-by-step process of the birth of faith, as well as the huge energy generated by the nuclear fusion of faith and the times, so as to observe and radiate the present, and inspire The establishment and practice of faith among contemporary young people." Yao Xiaofeng said.
From 2018 to 2024, "War of Faith" took a full 6 years from preparation to release. Chief producer Zhang Shuwei said, "War of Faith" is an original script that has been incubated since 2018. From the early stages of creation, we hope that it will not be made into a purely financial drama of the Republic of China, but that the life and growth process of the little character Wei Ruolai will be used as the main line to tell this legendary story of the Republic of China with espionage and financial elements. During the creation process of the script, we caught up with the epidemic and the progress has been has been delayed, but our work has never stopped, and we continue to make new adjustments to the script and innovate the story every year."
In the eyes of chief director Yao Xiaofeng and chief producer Zhang Shuwei, Wang Yibo is a hard-working and capable person . A talented actor, Wang Yibo's professionalism, understanding of the script, and seriousness in this collaboration are beyond expectations. Wei Ruolai is a clean, young and passionate young man with a lot of "tenacity", and Wang Yibo's innate temperament allowed Yao Xiaofeng to see the perfect fit between him and Wei Ruolai, and it also gave Yao Xiaofeng the idea of creating the role of Wei Ruolai again.
During the filming, Wang Yibo's role was very important. Not only did he have a lot of professional lines, but he also had to shoot from the first scene to the last scene every day. But Yao Xiaofeng discovered that Wang Yibo had never read a script on set and could reproduce his true feelings in different situations with sufficient preparation.
On the shooting scene, Yao Xiaofeng always makes the characters and actors one by stimulating their true feelings. "For example, when he (Wang Yibo) saw himself wearing a pair of torn socks, how can children today have such an experience? But I let the props cut the socks to pieces. After he put them on himself, he immediately caught the most realistic reaction. "Yao Xiaofeng's rigid requirement for all young actors is that the feelings and reactions given by each scene must be different, and the audience has also seen that Wang Yibo's interpretation of Wei Ruolai is so layered, full of details, and full of sparks.
Yao Xiaofeng saw in Wang Yibo his most sincere pursuit of performance, "It's like he became a king on the stage from a child, so I also believe that he can become a very good actor in performance. If there is a suitable subject in the future, I will I hope to cooperate with Wang Yibo, Wang Yang, and Li Qin again."
Zhang Shuwei revealed, "After the first performance of each scene, Director Yao will make a lot of requests, and there are many points in each request. In this process, it is actually difficult to achieve every point mentioned by the director at once, but Yibo can do it. Even in one action line, the director has seven or eight requirements, and Yibo is shooting the first When I was in Nijo, I was able to capture everything, which is very rare, and it is also very top-notch among actors."
The details are revealed
In the shooting and production the focus of the expression of the work is the grasp of scene art, costumes and lighting. The impact of the environment on people. The excitement and hustle and bustle of Shanghai Beach, the simplicity and vitality of the Jiangxi Revolutionary Base, the cold solemnity of the Central Bank, the chaos, noise, ups and downs of the stock exchange, and the human fireworks of Qibao Street warm people's hearts. The changes of the great era affect everyone, and different living environments and growth spaces, as well as different people around them in different environments, react with different personalities, which also creates different choices and fates for the characters. "War of Faith" is based on the contrast and fusion of "new and old", "virtual and real" and "small and big", and creates a balance based on the breadth of historical vision, the depth of the power of faith and the refinement of artistic expression.
As the audience and netizens commented, there is no wasted pen in every shot of "War of Faith", and the entire team is detail-oriented. For example, in the interview scene on Qibao Street, there are only a few lines in the script that read: Wei Ruolai hurriedly put on clothes to take the exam in the morning. Zhang Shuwei said, "This is the first scene we started shooting. In fact, the main character of Ruolai's home is... The scene had already been set up in another place. When the scene was finally confirmed, the director still thought that place was too big. He felt that we still had to truly recreate the situation of an almost penniless little man who had just arrived in Shanghai. He had to It’s a small room in a crowded alley, so a few days before we started shooting, we completely changed the main scene to Wei Ruolai’s house that everyone sees in the drama now.” This less than two minutes of filming lasted three full days. Yao Xiaofeng was stunned and took more than 20 shots. Tearing up the calendar, brushing teeth, and the conversation with Aunt Zhou were all added temporarily. According to the original announcement, the shooting time for the opening of Qibao Street was one week, but it actually took two weeks.
The drama is also very sophisticated in terms of costumes and styling. Zhang Shuwei revealed that when Wang Yibo set his makeup for the first time, both the director and Yibo agreed not to wear makeup because Wei Ruolai is a young man. Later, when he slowly became a role in the Central Bank Station after Shen Tunan gave him his first suit, his clothes would be more refined. When he resolutely chose to go to the Communist Party, during this period he put aside all the prosperity of Shanghai and All the clothes are back to their simplest appearance.
Almost all the props in the drama are old objects to reflect the quality of the era, including the art director and prop director, who also took out many treasures from home and used them in the play. "Like the camera that the central bank employees took pictures with, the director requested that the camera must have the function of an old camera with a click, but there was none on site, so he made a fake one. The director was very dissatisfied, and the prop teacher finally kept it at home. The camera was carried over and taken to the scene to take pictures."

The weight of succes
Once upon a time, in the heart of Paris, there lived a passionate and talented French chef named Henri. After years of honing his craft in various prestigious kitchens, he finally had the opportunity to open his own restaurant – a lifelong dream come true. With great anticipation, Henri flung open the doors of his establishment, "Le Bon Appétit," and welcomed his first guests.
Tumblr media
Days turned into weeks, and weeks into months, as the tantalizing aromas of his innovative dishes wafted through the streets of Paris. But as the accolades poured in and diners clamored for reservations, Henri found himself slowly becoming a victim of his own culinary genius. After just a month of relentless testing and tasting, he stood on the scale and was to horrified find that he had gained 20lbs.
Tumblr media
Determined not to let his newfound success jeopardize his waist, Henri concocted a plan. Seeking an unbiased and reliable palate to assist him in tasting his creations, he hired a junior chef, a young and handsome 24-year-old named Lucien. Little did Henri know that Lucien would play a defining role in the journey that lay ahead.
Tumblr media
At first, Lucien didn't notice the extra calories he consumed while tasting his mentor's dishes. The joy of introducing his own flavors to the world masked any concern about his expanding waistline. Besides, the restaurant was receiving rave reviews, and the guests continued to pour in. The shifts grew longer, and there was hardly any time for exercise. He gained 20lbs in his first 6 months.
Tumblr media
As the first year came to a close, the restaurant achieved its long-awaited Michelin, star marking a remarkable milestone in its young existence. The demand for Henri's culinary expertise skyrocketed, and with it, the pressure to keep innovating. The long hours persisted, and the relentless testing intensified.
Despite his best efforts, Lucien had gained an additional 20 pounds, bringing his total weight gain to 40 pounds., surrounded yet by the gastronomic delights that filled his life, he found solace in the relentless pursuit of flavor. Every bite brought him immense pleasure, dulling any concerns about his expanding physique.
Tumblr media
Another year passed, and the restaurant achieved a second Michelin star, propelling Le Bon Appétit into an entirely new realm of culinary excellence. The success led to even more testing, as Henri pushed the boundaries of traditional French cuisine. The shifts grew longer still, and there was barely any time to sleep, let alone exercise.
Tumblr media
As Lucien continued to immerse himself in the world of indulgence, his weight soared. By the end of the third year, he had gained an additional 50 pounds, culminating in an eye-popping total of 90lbs. But rather than despairing, Lucien loved his newfound size. He no longer fit into his old chef's whites, but that was a small price to pay for the sheer joy he experienced through his work.
Tumblr media
The restaurant flourished, with connoisseurs flocking from far and wide s toavor the culinary masterpieces emerging from Le Bon Appétit's kitchen. The diners reveled in the rich, decadent flavors that Henri and Lucien had crafted, unaware of the personal sacrifices exacted upon the younger chef.
With each passing day, Lucien's weight continued to climb, along with his delight in each tasting. He had now gained a total of 120lbs. He had become an integral part of the restaurant's success, an embodiment of the visceral pleasures that characterized Le Bon Appétit's cuisine.
Tumblr media
As the years wore on, Henri and Lucien pushed themselves to even greater heights. The pursuit of perfection knew no bounds as the restaurant maintained its two Michelin stars, attracting the gaze of the culinary world.
Underneath the toques and aprons, Henri and Lucien's bodies bore witness to the immense dedication and passion they had poured into their craft. And though the scales tipped heavily towards excess, their spirits soared alongside the accolades that rained down upon them.
Tumblr media
"What price is a few extra pounds compared to the symphony of flavors we create?" Henri mused one evening as he savored a bite of buttery foie gras.
"Yes, chef," Lucien replied with a contented sigh, "I will not stop. I love my new weight and the joy that each tasting brings. The world may not understand, but we know the truth – in our pursuit of culinary perfection, there are no limits."

Gallé Jonquille vase, 1905-1908
Adcid etched cameo glass. Signed Gallé with a star on the vase. 42 by 16 by 16cm., 16½ by 6¼ by 6¼in.
Émile Gallé was a French glass designer, considered to be one of the leading exponents of the Art Nouveau style and innovators of French art glass, which saw its renaissance in around 1900. The discovery of the arts of Japan and China at the Universal Exhibition of 1889 was a liberating experience for many European designers, who were able to free themselves from the stylistic constraints of the past. Of central importance was the depiction of the natural world, which would become the primary source of inspiration and the plant kingdom unfurls wonderfully in their creations. In 1884, Gallé invented the technique of multi-layer glass. Alongside his unique pieces, Gallé was able to develop the mass production of certain lines of vases and lights. This innovative approach allowed him to spread his output widely, ensuring his novel designs reached the broadest possible audience. Gallé was awarded a ‘Grand Prix’ medal during the Universal Exhibition of 1900, cementing his international reputation.

Magnus Archives Relisten 7, MAG 7 The Piper, Spoiler-Free Version
This is a spoiler-free analysis of Magnus Archives MAG 7, The Piper. One of the best-written episodes in the series. Pure poetry.
Facts: Statement of Seargent Clarence Berry regarding his time serving with Wilfred Owen during World War One. Statement given November 6, 1922.
Statement Notes: "Hey you know Wilfred Owen? The famous poet Wilfred Owen? The guy whose poems you had to read in class Wilfred Owen? Yeah, what if he was possessed? Wouldn't that be fucked?" -Jonny Sims at the Rusty Quill pitch meeting.
In all seriousness, this episode is incredible. The description of the three faces of war is so detailed, yet so brief. I want to take a little time to explore each face and set of arms.
The First Face: "One to play its pipes on scrimshaw bone." This line is apparently where the title "The Piper" comes from. As the story goes on, both Berry and Owen describe hearing strange music. This seems to be the "song of war" that the Piper plays, signaling a truly gruesome battle. This song doesn't necessarily warn off or compel the soldiers, but seems to do a bit of both. A war song doesn't just encourage a soldier to fight, but also warns an enemy. Wilfred Owen believes this being is The War itself, therefore its song should encourage violence from all sides, but also instill a deep fear in every soldier.
To me, this face fits with the hand raised "in a crisp salute." This hand and face prevent a false majesty and honor to war. This face tells the soldiers fighting is good, they will be rewarded, they will be valued. But of course, underneath its muddied green coat, all that the War has is a scarred and bloody body. "Nothing remained but the wounds themselves."
The Second Face: I've chosen to associate the face that "screamed its dying battle cry" with "the arms gripping blades and guns and spears." This face seems to represent the adrenaline violence and war brings, even as it kills you. I've always thought adrenaline not as good or bad, but creating more tangible and real emotions than other things can.
The Third Face: "One that would not open its mouth, for when it did blood and sodden soil flowed out like a waterfall." I associate this face with the hands begging for mercy. Clarence Berry is under 22 when this statement takes place, and (the real) Wilfred Owen would be between 22-24. These are practically children. They are going to die. They are going to die before their time, before it is fair. They are going to beg for mercy. This is the nature of war, and so is the nature of The War.
There is an implication that The War kept Owen alive so he could create poetry that glorifies The War. I wonder if this is out of ego--it wanted to be seen as glorious and beautiful--or simply to drag the battle on longer. If it seems inspirational, it will continue.
Overall I think this episode demonstrates the tentative balance World War One held between being "the writer's war" and "the technological front." The war represented a shift in humanity's ability to be brutal, but also spawned art and innovation. This doesn't justify the violence that occurred, but rather the acts of destruction and creation during the war existed in tandem, like two sides of a coin.
Character Notes: I know that Jon was speaking through the statement when he was making fun of Owen's poetry, but the idea of Jon being a cannon poetry hater is too funny for me to ignore

🥀Book Review: Persephone's Pathway: Wisdom, Magick & Growth by Jennifer Heather
Tumblr media
Full Title: Persephone's Pathway: Wisdom, Magick, Growth Author: Jennifer Heather Published by: Heather Publishing (seemingly self published) 2020 Good Reads: Link My Quick Review: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4/5) stars. Persephone’s Pathway which while flawed and at times meandering is perhaps the best resource available for the modern pagan worshipping or working with Persephone and I wholly recommend it. Official Blurb: Persephone's Pathway is one of balance and duality; embrace the dual goddess archetype of Underworld Queen and Spring Maiden in order to achieve harmony. This book shares the wisdom of Persephone, along with spells and rituals to help you in your daily life. Shadow work exercises encourage you to work with the Underworld aspect of the Dark Goddess, whilst flower magick celebrates the joy and gentleness of the Spring Goddess. Blend the dark and light aspects together to experience how they shine a light on each other in this celebration of wholeness and authenticity. Personal Reason for Purchasing: Was looking for a pagan/witchy perspective on Persephone and stubbled across this one. (Bought from Amazon UK)
Tumblr media
Overview of the book's contents. Introduction: A solid introduction, focusing on what the purpose of this book will be, and the author’s goals in writing it, namely ‘an exploration of the mythology and Symbolism surrounding Persephone, along with chapters dedicated to a facet of what she can teach us’, ‘both a collection of information and tribute to her’. Chapter 1: 'Who is Persephone': Introduction to Persephone, her role, dual nature, The Eleusinian mysteries, possible connections to Erishkegal (a mesopotamia goddess originating 4000 BC), and of course the Homeric Hymn to Demeter. Chapter 2: 'Historic Origins': An exploration of the genesis of Persephone in Mythology, through to the Evolution of her story in present day literature. (A personal highlight). Chapter 3: 'A Myth Retold': A modern retelling of the hymn to Demeter by the author. Chapter 4: 'Symbolism': An exploration of the artefacts associated with Persephone, both modern and ancient, the creation of a unique glyph/sigil for Persephone and an extensive and detailed discussion of association/correspondences, some ancient, some contemporary and lastly her common epithets. Chapter 5: 'Creating an Altar': A collection of suggestions and guidelines on creating your own altar for Persephone and common offerings to gift the Goddess. Chapter 6: 'Persephone Magick: Begins with a basic beginners to magickal practice, followed by a recipe for a Persephone Anointing oils, a guide to connecting to Persephone, an innovation and an adaption of the Orphic Hymn to Proserpina.

The Seeds of Persephone A collection of chapters surrounding what the Author considers to be the six core aspects/values which Persephone embodies. Seed 1: 'Union': Focuses on Shadow-work, divine alignment for body and Spirit union, and includes a spell for Spiritual union of lovers, guidance surrounding meditation, shadow-work rituals, and a recipe for a love attraction oil. Seed 2: 'Balance': Begins with a discussion of how to, and the importance of maintaining balance in one’s life, including a meandering discussion of grounding, living with the seasons, incorporating nature into your life, meditation, seasonal altars, self-care, massage, and yoga. Lastly it includes recipes for a Persephone Beauty Elixer’ cream/lotion, a medicinal tonic, a spell for resolution, and a spell for making a decision. Seed 3: 'Intuition': Looks at ways to develop one’s intuition, including an outline for a Persephone focused Lithomancy technique (10 planetary stones, 6 Persephone stones (named for each of the author’s ‘Seeds’: Fertility, Justice, Balance, Union, Sovereignty and Intuition), three tarot spreads and the script for a guided meditation. Seed 4: 'Sovereignty': Is a discussion of [personal Sovereignty, and self-esteem, with journal prompts. Guidance on enchanting a power talisman, and a spell for protecting personal boundaries. Seed 5: 'Justice': Focuses heavily on Persephone in her Queen of the Underworld Aspect, touching on several myths in which she acted as a Purveyor of justice, (Orpheus and Psyche, and a discussion on Trust in regards to the Goddess. Followed by Several spells for truth telling, reflection on behaviour and fair resolutions. Seed 6: 'Fertility': Focuses on Persephone's Spring/Maiden Aspect. Followed by a discussion of Maiden goddesses, Flower Magick, creating Floral elixirs, cleansing sprays, a flower bathing ritual, and spell jars/Witch’s bottles. Followed by the Associations/correspondences and finally a script of a guided meditation, to meet Persephone in her Spring Aspect. Appendix: The Orphic hymn to Proserpina, translated by Taylor Thomas 1792.

Personal Thoughts and Review. I’m conflicted about this book. The first half is an excellent primer on Persephone and including her into one’s personal practice however, the second half the ‘Seeds of Persephone’ are at times Meandering, unfocused and clumsy, but there are jewels among the ramblings.
The book appears to be self published, so I’m inclined to be kinder to the Author than I would otherwise be; however, Persephone’s Pathway could really use reformatting (text justified etc), and would benefit immensely from an informed and passionate editor. Nevertheless this book is an excellent edition to the libraries of those of us who work with Persephone.
Aspects in detail. General content: The first half goes over a lot of content around Persephone, in some detail and is appropriately referenced through allowing the reader to research further. The Second half (the Seeds) is a mixed bag and approaches certain subjects extremely casually, namely Shadow-work and herbal medicine. Persephone’s correspondences: Primarily contained to Chapter 4, the Correspondences are in depth, reference and diverse. However, there are inaccuracies, the most obvious is a mention of Corn/Maize being cut as a part of the Eleusinian Mysteries. As a New World crop Corn was not in ancient Greece at the time and as such has no historical connection to the Mysteries. From my own understanding the crop cut during the Mysteries was likely Barley, a grain though to have great significance to the Eleusinian Mysteries as a part of the hallucinogenic cocktail thought to be drunk by initiates, barley is also part of the offering given by Oddyseus to summon Persephone (“first with milk and honey, then with sweet wine, then with water; and sprinkle white barley-meal above”). Rituals and Spells: It’s Always interesting to see another practitioner's approach, and covering a very broad scope although, I wish they were indexed since they appear throughout the book. Origin Myth retelling: An interesting retelling, possibly my favourite version, however it is not without flaws. Guided Meditations: Enjoyable and Interesting, these scripts approach many aspects of Persephone’s Mythos. Journaling Prompts: These appear seemingly at random in the latter half of the book, but are nevertheless thought provoking. Recommended Reading: While good to see, it is worthy of note that none of these books reference Persephone, Hellenic Polytheism, or Shadow-work. Which are the topics I would like to see additional material given some of my concerns with the book itself. Bibliography: Extensive and good practice.
The Seeds in Detail. Given their significance to the book I’ll review these chapters separately: Union: a clumsy chapter whose advice on Shadow-work is surface level and possibly dangerous for a beginner or someone who is mentally vulnerable. But this chapter does handle the topic of Love workings with the required levity. Balance: Waffling and honestly feels like filler, of the seeds this one is disappointing and feels like lost potential. Intuition: a major highlight of the book, a detailed exploration of Lithomancy, well written and thought provoking. Sovereignty: A good chapter, if a little long winded. Justice: Spectacular, discussion of Queen Persephone and of how to connect to the Underworld Aspect. A personal highlight. Fertility: An excellent close to the book but desperately needs reformatting.
Final Thoughts. I wholly recommend this book especially as a gateway into working with or worshipping Persephone. Despite its flaws, it is the best resource I’ve found on Persephone from a pagan/witch perspective, and my practice is better for reading it.

Vertin's Bookshelf (Real Life References)
I'm only including real world references in this post. Some were too blurry for me to see so I only included the ones I can confirm. I tried to find pics of the original cover art too. Anything indented was copied from somewhere and I included all sources. I only did the searching and squinting!
VICTORIAN LONDON STREET LIFE in Historic Photographs
These rare historical photographs were taken from 1873 to 1877 and are part of Street Life in London, a book that was one of the first examples of social documentary photography. The authors, photographer John Thomson and journalist Adolphe Smith, aimed to reveal by the innovative use of photography and essays the conditions of a life of poverty in London. (source)
Die Verwandlung ( The Metamorphosis) by Frankz Kafa
(Note: Seems like Vertin has this book in its original German instead of translated into English)
Metamorphosis (German: Die Verwandlung) is a novella written by Franz Kafka and first published in 1915. One of Kafka's best-known works, Metamorphosis tells the story of salesman Gregor Samsa, who wakes one morning to find himself inexplicably transformed into a huge insect (German: ungeheueres Ungeziefer, lit. "monstrous vermin") and subsequently struggles to adjust to this new condition. The novella has been widely discussed among literary critics, who have offered varied interpretations. (source)
CURRUS TRIUMPHALIS ANTIMONIO (Triumphant Chariot of Antimony) : alchemy book published in 1646
From what I've gathered its focused on ancient medicine and hermetic philosophy? It's pretty old and the information around it is sparse. However, the supposed author has an interesting story:
Basil Valentine is the Anglicized version of the name Basilius Valentinus, ostensibly a 15th-century alchemist, possibly Canon of the Benedictine Priory of Saint Peter in Erfurt, Germany but more likely a pseudonym used by one or several 16th-century German authors. According to John Maxson Stillman, who wrote on the history of chemistry, there is no evidence of such a name on the rolls in Germany or Rome and no mention of this name before 1600. His putative history, like his imaginary portrait, appears to be of later creation than the writings themselves. Whoever he was, Basil Valentine had considerable knowledge of chemistry. He demonstrated that ammonia could be obtained by the action of alkali on sal-ammoniac (ammonium chloride), described the production of hydrochloric acid by acidifying brine of common salt (sodium chloride), and created ethyl chloride and oil of vitriol (sulfuric acid), among other achievements. (source)
There's a Beethoven vinyl record that I can't make out but it has the word "violoncello" in it? I tried sharpening it but still can't figure out the rest. I couldn't find the art either.
The last one is another Vinyl Record: Johann Sebastian Bach, Enrico Mainardi – Suiten Für Violoncello Solo Nr.1-6. I tried to find the closing looking image to the one used in the game. The record I found was actually remastered in Japan (2016) but its very close!

Playing at the World, 2E
Volume 1: The Invention of Dungeons & Dragons

Paperback
ISBN 9780262548779
Published: July 30, 2024
Publisher: The MIT Press
The first volume of two in a new, updated edition of the 2012 book Playing at the World, which charts the vast and complex history of role-playing games.
This new edition of Playing at the World is the first of two volumes that update the 720-page original tome of the same name from 2012. This first volume is The Invention of Dungeons & Dragons, which explores the publication of that iconic game. (The second volume is The Three Pillars of Role-Playing Games, a deeper dive into the history of the setting, system, and character of D & D.) In this first volume, Jon Peterson distills the story of how the wargaming clubs and fanzines circulating around the upper Midwest in the 1970s culminated in Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson's seminal role-playing game, D & D. It augments the research of the original editions with new insights into the crucial period in 1972–3 when D & D began to take shape.
Drawing from primary sources ranging from eighteenth-century strategists to modern hobbyists, Playing at the World explores the origins of wargames and roleplaying through the history of conflict simulations and the eccentric characters who drove the creation of a signature cultural innovation in the late twentieth century. Filled with unparalleled archival research (from obscure fanzines to letters, drafts, and other ephemera), this new edition of Playing at the World is the ultimate geek's guide to the original RPG. As such, it is an indispensable resource for academics and game fans exploring the origins of the hobby.

The Guardian
Aug. 8, 2023
The Brazilian president, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, has vowed to haul the Amazon out of centuries of violence, economic “plundering” and environmental devastation and into “a new Amazon dream”, at the start of a major regional summit on the world’s largest rainforest.
Addressing South American leaders gathered in the Brazilian city of Belém, Lula offered a bold blueprint for the future of the Amazon, a 6.7m sq km region that is home to nearly 50 million people spread across eight countries and one territory.
The Brazilian leftist promised to repair his country’s environmental and international reputation after four “disastrous” years under his predecessor, Jair Bolsonaro, during which the rainforest and Indigenous communities came under growing attack. “Thankfully … we have managed to turn this sad page in our history,” said Lula, who took power in January after thwarting Bolsonaro’s re-election plans.
Lula pledged to promote an ambitious model for the rainforest region – 60% of which lies within Brazil – in which environmental protection was accompanied by desperately needed social inclusion, economic growth and technological innovation.
“The rainforest is neither a void that needs occupying nor a treasure trove to be looted. It is a flowerbed of possibilities that must be cultivated,” Lula told the audience, which included the presidents of fellow Amazon nations Bolivia, Colombia and Peru, as well as the prime minister of Guyana and Venezuela’s vice-president.
Pledging to achieve zero deforestation by 2030, Lula said: “The Amazon can be whatever we want it to be: an Amazon with greener cities, with cleaner air, with mercury-free rivers and forests that are left standing; an Amazon with food on the table, dignified jobs and public services that are available to all; an Amazon with healthier children, well-received migrants [and] Indigenous people who are respected … This is our Amazon dream.”
youtube
Indigenous communities demand greater change as Amazon rainforest summit begins – video
The comments came at the start of a rare two-day meeting of the eight-member Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization (Acto), which Lula called as part of efforts to reposition Brazil on the world stage as a key player in the fight against the climate crisis.
Among the issues being discussed at Acto’s first such meeting in 14 years were a possible deal to halt deforestation by 2030 and joint efforts to fight rampant illegal mining and organised crime groups that are tightening their grip on the rainforest region. Colombia’s president, Gustavo Petro, has been pushing for an end to oil and gas exploration in the Amazon, although Brazilian moves to develop an oilfield near the mouth of the Amazon River complicate those efforts.
Petro used his intervention to call for the creation of “an Amazonian Nato” under which regional military would join forces to protect the jungle, about 6% of which lies within Colombia’s borders.
“You defend life with reason – but also with weapons,” he said, also proposing a “Marshall Plan” to pump resources into Amazon protection and a specialised Amazonian court to punish crimes against the biome.
Dina Boluarte, the president of Peru, home to about 11% of the Amazon, also urged action to preserve a rainforest that “isn’t just the lungs of the world – it’s the heart of the world”.
“We must act now. There is no time to lose,” said Boluarte, who was making her first trip abroad since Peru was gripped by protests after she took power last December.
After hours of talks, a joint Acto communique, called the Belém Declaration, was published, calling for increased police and intelligence collaboration to fight illegal activities and environmental crime as well as human rights violations against Indigenous people and activists. It said a law enforcement centre would be opened in the Brazilian city of Manaus to promote cooperation among regional police forces.
The 113-point text also urged greater efforts to slash deforestation and promote sustainable development in the region. However, the document fell short of many expectations for failing to include a common goal of zero deforestation by 2030.
Marcio Astrini, the executive secretary of the Climate Observatory group, said he had mixed feelings about a declaration that was weaker than many environmentalists had hoped for.
“It’s a first step. It was important for [these leaders] to come together but there isn’t much concrete in there. It’s a list of very generic promises. It was lacking something more forceful,” Astrini said.
“We’re living in a world which is melting. We are breaking temperature records all the time. How can it be that in a 22-page declaration the presidents of eight Amazon countries can’t clearly state that deforestation needs to stop?”

i'm so sorry that this took soo long wiz!! life started kicking my butt and my thoughts wouldn't settle
made this one lestappen for funsies
charles is the owner of an ice cream shop that specializes in making really elaborate ice cream confections. his store lowkey went viral on tiktok because their creations are super impressive looking, but mostly everyone in the comments was thirsting over charles when he appeared in the video to explain how they flavor the ice cream. obviously, his social media guy lando is absolutely thrilled with the heightened engagement.
one day after work, charles brings his puppy leo to the vet. they've been going to dr. vettel for forever and they both adore him. so imagine charles' shock when he checks in the with receptionist, an australian with remarkably swoopy hair who seems to have replaced the middle-aged woman with a perpetually pinched face that charles remembers form his previous visits, and is informed that dr. vettel has retired, moved to the alps to save the bees, and has left his personal phone number to charles in case he ever needs something.
after processing some emotions, charles finally asks the gold ticket question.
"who is leo seeing today, then?"
and then a blond man dressed in navy blue scrubs steps out from behind the door separating the rest of the clinic from the lobby. he doesn't seem to notice charles. charles doesn't mind because he's too busy ogling this gorgeous man who's exactly his type. he's always been a sucker for blue eyes, sue him.
"oscar, do you know if the 6'oclock appointment is coming in? they're already 15 minutes late, and the sooner i can get back to jimmy and sassy the better."
"charles, meet dr. max verstappen. he's taking over the clinic now that dr. vettel has retired," oscar says.
and boom introductions are made. they have a perfectly lovely vet appointment, where charles accidently said that leo is 4 years old instead of 8 months because the way max's mouth moved was just sooo mesmerizing wdym i actually have to have a functioning brain??
the next day, max shows up at the ice cream shop, presumably on his day off. charles is like "omg is he here to see me... but i don't want to read too much into it, yk?"
while paying for his scoop of vanilla ice cream on a waffle cone, max admits that he had no idea that charles owned the place. apparently, oscar had casually suggested the ice cream parlor as the best place in town for dessert. lando, who had been puttering around somewhere next to charles, trying to act like he wasn't listening in on their conversation, knocked over a rack of scrapers as soon at the mention of oscar's name. weird, right? crazyyyy
some time passes. max and charles become closer. leo is suddenly having a lot more vet visits than normal, even though he’s in perfect health so that charles has an excuse to see max. he’s aware that it’s getting borderline pathetic, and he’s pretty sure that oscar agrees, since the aussie has memorized his number due to how frequently charles calls to schedule appointments.
they're mutually pining but the feelings are kept under lock and key because i-dont-want-to-damage-our-friendship-what-if-he-doesn’t-like-me-back-am-I-allowed-to-date-my-dog’s-vet-blahblahblah.
charles’ shop gets nominated for a prestigious award, created to highlight innovators in the gastronomic world internationally. to celebrate, his best friend, pierre, throws him a surprise party at the ice cream store after hours. all of their friends are invited, as well as seb. having listened to charles mope about the hot vet countless times, he pops by the veterinarian office and invites max, telling him to bring a friend if he’d like so that he’s more comfortable.
and that’s how max ends up at charles’ surprise party, cradling a bottle of what he hopes is acceptable wine, oscar in tow.
upon seeing max, charles has a brief moment of “i am actually going to to murder pierre omg how am I supposed to handle being with him outside of a work context without combusting” before realizing “OMG I GET TO BE NEAR MY CRUSH!!!!”
charles notices that oscar and lando seem super awkward and stiff around each other but doesn’t know why and chooses not to press it (so actually landoscar had a one night stand that lando fled at 5AM because commitment is scary and he’s worried because he likes this guy way more than he should for someone he’s met less than 12 hours ago. better leave before it get too real)
The night progresses, more wine is poured and toasts are made. Basically everyone is tipsy by the time the party winds down and people start to trickle out.
max is the last guest to leave, constantly finding himself caught in conversation with charles again and again. just as he steps out the door, charles grabs his arm.
“wait hold on, do you want to try next week’s special edition flavor? you’re special, so you can taste test before the official public release.” charles says and then proceeds to wink horrifically. max agrees and the two of them make their way to the walk in freezer in the back where charles stores flavors to restock.
the door closes behind them and they realize a little too late that charles forgot to unlock the door from the inside so they’re now trapped.
cue immense panic from both of them. thankfully, charles has his phone on him and calls lando, to whom he had given a spare pair of keys to let them out. in the meantime, they ultimately end up cuddling for warmth in an effort to not freeze before lando could get to them.
wrapped up in max’s embrace and lulled by the wine on his tongue, charles confesses to max. mutually reciprocated declarations of love ensue and just and they’re about to kiss, a lock clicks and lando opens the door.
laying in his bed that night, max asleep next to him, charles realizes that the bruises on lando’s throat definitely wasn’t because of the shop’s weird lighting casting shadows. they were most definitely hickeys and charles remembers lando slipping out of the party at much the same time as a certain receptionist.

Countries of Lumoria
Tumblr media
(Official flag of Lumoria-)
Lumoria is a continent that is quite far from other civilizations, which makes it hard, almost impossible, to find. This continent is divided in 6 countries: Aelina, Noctem, Kalesia, Elitan, Valen and Vynoria.
Here is how each country is like:
1. Aelina - It is the most well known country of the continent and it is known for its stunning natural beauty and rich cultural history, plus being the home of most nobles and royals. Its inhabitants are known for their skill in the art of sorcery, a unique form of magic that involves channeling the power of nature through ritual and song. This includes the abilities of the cosmos. Creatures like fae, centaurs, and elves live here in harmony with the Lumorians. This is Emery’s home country.
2. Noctem - It is a land of shadows and secrets, where the inhabitants are known for their expertise in the art of shadow-manipulation, a form of magic that involves the manipulation of the shadows to create illusions, hide one's presence, or even to attack. The people of Noctem are also known for their expertise in the art of silence, a form of magic that allows for the creation of silence, the manipulation of sound waves, and even the negation of spells, making them invisible to others and impossible to hear. The country of Noctem is shrouded in mystery and has a reputation of being a harsh and unforgiving place, where the people are hard to trust and even harder to befriend. They are only friendly and respectful towards other Lumorians, no matter the country they are from.
3. Kalesia - It is the most technologically advanced of the Lumorian countries, with a strong focus on research and innovation. The people of Kalesia are known for their intelligence and ingenuity, as well as their expertise in the art of illusion, which is a form of magic that allows for the creation of seemingly impossible and often convincing holograms that can trick the senses. Creatures like Kitsune and ghosts that have taken robots as their vessels inhabit this land. They are a rather common sight in these parts.
4. Elitan - It is a country with an abundance of bodies of water, such as lakes, rivers, and more. There is quite a bit of fauna there and it is in the coast of the countries so you are able to see into the vast oceans where different sea creatures reside in, such as sirens, mermaids and cecaelia. The people of Elisia are known for their expertise in the art of divination, which is a form of magic that allows for the reading and interpretation of omens and signs to forecast events and gain insight into the past, present, and future.
5. Valen - It is the most rugged and remote of the Lumorian countries, consisting of towering mountains and dense forests that are home to a variety of unique and sometimes dangerous wildlife. The people of Valen are known for their hardiness and adaptability, as well as their expertise in the art of transmutation, which is a form of magic that allows for the transformation of one substance into another, often with the goal of achieving a desired end. Creatures like dragons, dryders and naga live in the caves in the mountains. The residents of Valen are the most capable in combat compared to the other countries.
6. Vynoria - It is a land of mystery and intrigue, where the inhabitants are known for their skill in the art of invocation, which is a form of magic that allows for the summoning and control of spirits from other realms. The people of Vynoria are also known for their expertise in the art of dreamwalking, which is a form of magic that allows for the projection of one's consciousness into other realms while in deep rest. Many clouds surround the place, and it is the most peaceful of the countries. Mythical birds like the Phoenix sometimes go there to rest.
Emery travels to all other five countries each year to practice their magic. They have been doing so since they were young and have now become an expert at using all that magic. Due to so, they have larde amounts of stamina and don't get exhausted much, rarely needing any sleep. Whenever they do sleep, they take the whole day off just to do it.
(Royal Jesters AU belongs to @head-in-the-icloud , Emery and Lumoria, plus the countries, be made by me!)
I feel like this would be Emery's and Y/N's dynamic:
Y/N: *trauma dumping*
Y/N: I need a coffee...
Emery: What you need is help, for the love of Andromeda!
{Fun facts!}
Emery knows how to play the harp and has a fondness to gardening
Lavenders and lilacs be the continent's official flower
Emery's weapon be this:
Tumblr media
The Lumorians have a goddess they worship called Andromeda, Goddess of the Cosmos.
I imagine Y/N would sleep on Emery's fluffy tail while they read (yes, Emery got a tail and it is big and FLUFFY-)
