Hopefully we will see these three get medals in the Olympics in 2024🥇😤
Sydney - 400m, 400m Hurdles, and the 4x400
Noah Lyles- 4x1, 200m, and 100m
Sha'carri - 100m, 4x100,200m
Will Update this next year😉
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here's also to hoping they all break the Olympic records 👌🏿. What's crazy is that Sha'carri could potentially do it for two events as seen above. Also to note Lyles broke the WC record held by Michael Johnson by 0.01 seconds. It would be crazy if he did the same with Bolts Olympic record 💯

SSR Jack Howl - Club Wear Voice Lines
Tumblr media
When Summoned: I don't plan on getting stuck in a pack with everyone else. I'll run at my own pace.
Summon Line: I got a good training regimen going. I'll improve my physique before the next meet... And I'll definitely beat my target time!
Groooovy!!: I'll shake everyone else off. The one who'll cross the finish line first will be... me!
Home: Right! Guess I'll start with some warm-up exercises.
Home Idle 1: Marathon running is a sport where it's important to determine strategies for pacing and positioning. I always have a plan of attack for each one I run.
Home Idle 2: I recommend the woods behind campus as a good running course. The path is unpaved, so it's just right for building your core.
Home Idle 3: I find pole vaulting to be frustrating. Even when I think I've made the jump, sometimes my tail gets caught on the pole. I need to figure out a way to overcome that somehow.
Home Idle - Login: I like how we can visually see our results with proper timekeeping in Track and Field. That helps me see exactly how well I'm doing, and how far I've come.
Home Idle - Groovy: If you're planning to watch our practice, then go sit in the tree shade over there. No, it's not 'cause I'm worried about you. You'll just be a distraction if you're too close.
Home Tap 1: Guess I'll have to do some shoe maintenance soon. I need to make sure my prep is spot on so I can have some real results, so.
Home Tap 2: We went into the mountains for the Track and Field Club training camp. Because of the thinner air at that higher altitude, it made for a harder run and good exercise.
Home Tap 3: Athletic supporters help to reduce unnecessary muscle movement, which in turn helps me from getting tired too quickly. It's definitely a must if we're practicing for long hours.
Home Tap 4: Deuce raced against an upperclassman in the 400 meter dash. Man, no matter how many times he was passed, he would quickly overtake him... He's got mettle.
Home Tap 5: I'm hungry. I want to eat something, but... I'll hold off for now, because I'm about to go running. I don't want to stress out my stomach and lower my time.
Home Tap - Groovy: I tried filming my running form... But it's just not working out. Oh, you'll help me video it? Alright, I'll leave it to you then.
Duo: [JACK]: Deuce, can you keep up with me? [DEUCE]: Don't underestimate me, Jack!

Go For Gold
Prompt Day 22: Sports AU | Word Count: 1000 | Rating: T | CW: None | Tags: Swimming AU, Olympic Trials, Racing, Rivalry, A Dash of Secret Relationship, Eddie & Gareth are BFFs
Tumblr media
Eddie steps up onto the block. Rolls his shoulders. His neck. Gareth is two lanes down, in six. Eddie can see him bouncing up and down. Can tell he's nervous. Gareth didn't make the Olympic team at twenty, now he's fighting for a spot at twenty-four.
If Steve's nervous in lane five, between Eddie and Gareth, you'd never know it. Steve's twenty-seven, and has been doing this since he was fifteen. Eddie's Olympic debut came at twenty, but he thinks he was immature, even then.
Steve has his game face on, his no-nonsense, no-bullshit approach to the sport. You don't bother Steve Harrington once he steps on the deck. It's just not done. Hell, you don't talk to him in the ready room, either. Steve will have his headphones on, serious as shit, not talking to anyone. Not even listening. Zoned out.
Eddie is the only exception to the rule, and it's a power he doesn't abuse often. He's not trying to break Steve's focus, it's unsportsmanlike. Instead, Eddie will roughhouse with the other guys. The ones that like that to get their blood pumping before a race.
Eddie is just a little looser. A free spirit, looking for fun.
Sure, he wants to win medals, but it's not that serious.
Well, it is that serious, if he's honest. Because Eddie's never trained as hard as he has in the last four years. He wants it. Bad.
For once in their parallel careers, Eddie isn't sure that Steve wants it more than he does. Steve staying in bed, while Eddie drags himself to the pool at the ass-crack of dawn. Eddie isn't sure Steve has anything left to prove. He broke all the records four years ago.
Their rivalry is stuff of legend. Full of stupid commentary, like: "Without Steve Harrington, Eddie Munson would be the best swimmer of his generation," as if it's that simple. Without chasing Steve, Eddie thinks he might not have pushed this hard. It's a stupid hypothetical.
This is their third Olympic Trials as number one and two. And you have to stay one and two, if you want to make the Olympic Team. You need to touch the wall first or second, with a crowd of twelve-thousand breathing down your neck every time your head breaks through the water.
They always say first is first, and second is also first, when it comes to Trials. But that's not true. Not really.
Steve Harrington definitely doesn't think so.
Steve's not at the top of his game. He's hurting. He's getting older. They both are. Eddie's a year older, but hasn't pushed himself quite as hard. Hard, sure. But not to the extent that Steve has, year-over-year.
Swimming's still fun for Eddie, but he's not sure that's true for Steve. Eddie thinks this might be Steve's last year, his last Olympics, and that hurts to think about. Eddie isn't ready to be done, he's still having fun, but doing it without Steve in the lane next to him seems sad.
When the buzzer sounds, they're launching into the pool, swimming the butterfly, the first leg of the 400 I.M.
Eddie pulls ahead, but knows it won't last through the butterfly leg. Steve'll catch him, pass him, sure as shit.
And that's how it goes.
At the halfway mark, Eddie pops up fifty meters into the backstroke, and glances to his left and Gareth is out ahead of not only him, but Steve, too. The little shit is a helluva backstroker, these days. Steve's a half body length behind the both of them, and that's disconcerting.
Eddie wants to beat him, absolutely, but he doesn't want Steve to fail, either. It's hard, when two people you love are also competing for a slot you want.
Switching to the breaststroke, Eddie catches Gareth quickly, and by the first turn has pulled ahead of both of them. By almost a body length, heading into the freestyle. Eddie needs that lead if he's gonna stay ahead of Steve to the end.
And he can see Steve closing the gap, but Eddie doesn't think Steve's got enough room to catch him.
And he doesn't.
They go one-two, and for the first time at an Olympic Trials, Steve's number two.
Eddie hangs onto the lane rope and smiles, chest heaving. Steve swims towards him, also breathing hard, pulling him into a hug. Eddie hugs back, clinging to him.
"You got me," Steve says in his ear, and Eddie laughs. He's well aware they're being filmed, broadcast on live television, so he just claps Steve on the shoulder, laughs, and pulls away. Gareth is swimming under the rope, to get to Eddie, too.
"You did good, kid. You were ahead of us both!" Eddie shouts over the noise, and Gareth smiles. Eddie knew the odds weren't in Gareth's favor here, but Eddie will be right there, cheering him on in his other events. Hoping Gareth still snags a spot.
After their cooldowns, and the rest of the races for the night, they drag themselves back to the hotel. And like always, Steve's his roommate. It's been that way since the beginning. An unlikely duo, with a friendship that people like to write articles about, not totally understanding it.
Eddie dumps his bag on the floor, collapsing on his bed, groaning.
"I'm dead, bury me now," Eddie whines, smashing his face in the pillow.
Steve laughs, toeing off his shoes, and crawling in bed beside him. They have two beds, they always do, but unless it's the night before a competition, they usually squeeze into one. That's been interesting in some of the Olympic villages. Those beds are small.
Eddie rolls onto his side, and Steve slings his arm over him, pulling him closer.
"Okay, let's hear you gloat," Steve says, and Eddie laughs, leaning into Steve.
"This old man kicked your ass," Eddie says, grinning, and Steve shuts him up by pressing his lips to Eddie's, kissing him, hugging their bone-tired bodies together.
Tumblr media
Notes: Yeah, they are based loosely on Phelps and Lochte. Two very different versions of a pro-athlete, but somehow friends. Roommates at meets, always each other's card partner, etc. (And this race, in particular.)
Olympic Trials are the end all and be all in getting on the USA Olympic Swim Team. You don't get a spot unless you finish in the top 2 (and 3-6 in the freestyle where there will be a relay.) Unlike, say, figure skating, where it is entirely up to committees. Or gymnastics, where it's half-and-half.
If you want to write your own, or see more entries for this challenge, pop on over to @steddieholidaydrabbles and follow along with the fun!

Sometimes I see you on my dash doing a science and it makes me happy and do you have any shark facts pls? Sharks are so cool. Especially the weird deep sea sharks that always get ignored when ppl talk about great whites and such (no shame to great whites they are very lovable,)
Of course I have quite a lot!
Okay so we can start with the first shark ancestors, the spiny sharks! They lived in the Silurian, more than 400 million years ago. They looked pretty unique as each fin was actually a spine supporting the whole fin, and had already reacquired the cartilaginous skeleton that modern sharks have!
Tumblr media
Nobu Tamura / CC BY-SA 4.0
They often had a bunch of little pairs of "finlets" (not real fins, but spines serving a similar purpose) between their actual fins! So spiky!
Then we come to the true sharks (and rays). Or, nearly. Turns out, there are two main groups of shark-like cartilaginous fish alive today. On the one hand the sharks and rays, and on the other hand the chimeras, majestic creatures often found in the deep sea!
Tumblr media
Havforskingsinstituttet / CC BY-SA 4.0
Turns out however, the ancestors of chimeras were historically way more shark-like! And ranged between adorable and pretty weird, and more often than not both! Here's one of them: the sawblade shark, Helicoprion!
Tumblr media
Entelognathus / CC BY-SA 4.0
And here's the anvil shark!
Tumblr media
DiBgd / CC BY-SA 4.0
And the wtfshark, Squaloraja!
Tumblr media
Nix Illustrations / I don't know the license but he's on Tumblr
And now we can move on to the actual sharks. And rays. And sawsharks. And sawfish. And sawskates. The design so good they had to invent it thrice.
Here's a sawfish (these ones are closer to rays!), heavily judging whoever took the photograph. Surprisingly, they're the largest of the bunch, reaching up to 7 meters - while sawsharks are barely a meter in length at best, and sawskates aren't alive anymore but could reach a respectable 4 meters! (although they were wider relative to their size, which has to count for something?)
Tumblr media
Simon Fraser University - University Communications / CC BY 2.0
Now that we saw the saws, we can move on to actual sharks... wait what's that? An interruption by the coolest species of six-finned ray?
Tumblr media
Robert Fisher, Virginia Sea Grant / CC BY-ND 2.0
Seems like it. Of course I had to mention my favourite cartilaginous fish in the bunch. Cownose rays (and their manta ray cousins) are the only vertebrates to have developed an entire new pair of fins - on their face, to help them grab stuff! Since fish paired fins are homologous to our limbs, it would be like having an extra pair of arms coming from our face!
Tumblr media
Robert Fisher, Virginia Sea Grant / CC BY-ND 2.0
Back to sharks now (finally)! And speaking of stuff it's rare to have six of, what about sixgill sharks?
Tumblr media
No author information / Public domain
The most divergent group of true sharks alive today, the deep-sea creatures that we call frilled sharks are actually very derived, despite their prehistoric appearance! Ironically, their more ordinary-looking sixgill cousins, the cow sharks, are more representative of how sharks started off back in the days!
Tumblr media
NOAA / Public domain
Still six gills because why not. Or even seven, because really, why not.
Next step on our shark list (and back to the regular five-gill pattern), the angelsharks! Or sand devils, because they really couldn't decide on these ones. Angels or devils, they're absolutely adorable pancakes.
Tumblr media
Nick Long / CC BY-SA 2.0
Now, we would still have five more orders of sharks to go, but these are the pretty well-known ones (great white shark, hammerhead shark, etc.) and this post is getting pretty big, so I'm happy to have presented cool unique ones already! Have a nice day, and don't forget - there are always more shark species to learn about!

Max the Monster Truck Warframe
I knew damn well that Max was going to be an easy favorite.  There is a noticeable overlap between Tumblr users who play Warframe and Tumblr users who had their sexual awakening watching Transformers.  He’s a partial recycle of Tigre the Luchador warframe, since (at least to me) monster truck derby is basically truck wrestling.  Right?  Does that sound crazy?  Monster truck and demolition derby are truck wrestling, right?  Also out of curiosity I had to do some research to make sure monster trucks were a concept that would translate well.  It seems like such an American thing, right?  Without any surprise, monster trucks and monster truck sport originates in the midwest United States and has spread to Canada but only appears in most other parts of the world in traveling shows.  Surprisingly it doesn’t have a permanent presence in Mexico.  Anyways, enjoy your truck wrestler.  MAX!  MAX!  MAX!  MAX!  MAX!
Health: 600 (800 at rank 30) Shields: 175 (225 at rank 30) Armor: 350 Energy: 175 (225 at rank 30) Sprint Speed: 0.9 (gains 0.06 sprint speed at every 5th rank reaching 1.26 at rank 30)
Passive: Being an all-terrain beast with superior traction, Max wall dashes 50% faster than ordinary warframes and gains +10% sprint speed for 6 seconds after wall dashing.
Ability 1: Dynamite Suplex, 25 energy.  With a choreographed lunge Max grapples the enemy nearest his crosshairs up to 12 meters away and slams them backwards with a brutal suplex, and then recovers with a back-flip.  After grappling the target it is slammed backwards, dealing 300+X (where X is equal to the grabbed enemy’s level times 5) blast damage to the grappled victim and half as much to all enemies caught in a 5 meter radius as a melee strike with a 2x critical damage multiplier, 5% critical chance, and 5% status chance. Dynamite Suplex can be recast within a 1 second window to perform a repeating combo chain with 200% damage, critical chance, and status chance, 150% blast radius, and 50% cost reduction for the second hit and 400% damage, critical chance, and status chance, 200% blast radius, and 75% cost reduction for the third and all subsequent hits in the chain.  Damage is affected by Ability Strength, the Melee Combo Counter and most mods and arcanes.
Ability 2: Nitro Piledriver, 50 energy. Max grabs the enemy nearest his crosshairs up to 12 meters away and swings them around, dealing 500 blast damage with 50% status chance to the grabbed enemy and half as much to every enemy within a 7.5 meter radius and then pounds the grabbed victim into the ground with a jumping slam dealing an additional 500 blast damage with 100% status chance to the grabbed enemy and half as much to all enemies in a 15 meter radius.  Status chance for Nitro Piledriver scales with ability strength.  For every enemy hit by Nitro Piledriver‘s final blast Max restores 25 points of shields.  If Max’s shields are full this effect will grant overshields.
Ability 3: Satanic Afterburner, 75 energy.  Injecting his core with volatile compounds makes Max’s explosive abilities combust even more violently!  Even allies may reap the benefits of this surge in power!  For the next 10 seconds Max’s abilities gain bonus heat damage equal to half of the blast damage dealt.  This bonus heat damage is dealt as a separate damage instance with its own crit and status where applicable.  Additionally while Satanic Afterburner is active kills with weapons have 15% increased chance to drop energy orbs and kills with abilities have 30% increased chance to drop health orbs for both Max and all allies within 45 meters.  Bonus orb drop chance scales with ability strength.
Ability 4: Apocalyptic Overdrive, 100 energy.  With a mighty leap Max falls like a meteorite onto the battlefield, leaving a crater where he lands. Tap to immediately leap to the location targeted by Max’s aiming reticle or hold to show impact location and highlight the area of the impact crater.  Upon landing Max deals 1,000 blast damage in a 20 meter radius and leaves behind a marked area of cracked terrain with the same radius. Apocalyptic Overdrive can be reactivated within a 1 second window of landing to perform a repeating combo with the second cast costing 50% and the third & all subsequent casts costing 25% of the original energy cost.  After the 1 second combo window expires he will punch the cracked ground beneath him a total of six times, causing all impact craters created in the chain to burst dealing 250 blast damage with every punch.  If Max moves or is moved from his impact point before the combo window expires he will not execute the final punch combo.  Each instance of damage caused by Apocalyptic Overdrive has a 25% status chance which scales with ability strength.
Subsumed ability: Dynamite Suplex
Siganture weapon: Gravedigger.  A primitive assault saw, the thick and jagged blade of the Gravedigger makes it just as good at excavating earth and stone as it is at turning Grineer soldiers and Corpus proxies into chunky salsa!  Slightly slower attack speed but generous per-hit damage.  Deals roughly even values of impact, puncture, and slash damage with high critical chance and above average critical multiplier at the cost of low status chance.  As Max’s signature weapon the Gravedigger gains +15% attack speed in his hands which increases to +25% when Satanic Afterburner is active.
Signature companion: Balkrishna. Max’s original sentinel companion the Balkrishna is a little robot with a big personality!  Boxy construction makes Balkrishna recognizable at a glance and with unusually thick armor for a sentinel he makes a steadfast helper in any battle situation.  The Balkrishna’s unique precepts are Bulldozer and Pit Stop.  Bulldozer is a special attack in which the sentinel charges forwards, ragdolling and dealing 250 impact damage to all enemies in a 2 meter wide, 20 meter long line once every ten seconds.  Pit Stop will instantly restore 5% of Balkrishna or the player’s max health, prioritizing whichever one is currently lower with a 30 second cooldown, and grant 10% bonus armor for the next 10 seconds.  Balkrishna includes the unique companion glaive weapon Derby which can only be wielded by Balkrishna similar to Helios’s Deconstructor.  Derby has less damage but higher attack speed, crit, and status when compared to Helios’s Deconstructor.  Unlike Deconstructor Derby deals even values of impact, puncture, and slash with every hit.  As Max’s signature companion Balkrishna’s unique precepts have their cooldowns reduced by 10% while the two are used in tandem.
Closing notes: Max’s signature weapon Gravedigger is named after the most popular monster truck, and the Balkrishna sentinel is named after Balkrishna Industries Limited, also known as BKT, the manufacturer of all tires used in Monster Jam.  I had Max finished for like two whole days and then changed my mind and reworked his first two abilities because they were too similar.

Ranked based off how fast they are
roughly in order from fastest to slowest
splendid and splendont: fastest by default because of the superpowers

Ooooookay so we know that the Links are all very athletic right. They fight enemies and use swords and frequently run through monster hordes and do other hero-y things.
But how *fast* can they run?
So: the Links (from the main story) all have to run a 400 meter dash (approximately 1/4 mile), a mile, and a half marathon. Who finishes each race first, who finishes last, and approximately what are the times of the first and last person to finish each race?
Brought to you by, someone who realized the fastest mile ever run was done in under four minutes and suddenly felt deep pain for the DLinks who have to track down Realm even when his earrings are in place
(But is also wondering who would win each race, since a short sprint is a very different game than distance running)
You made me research olympic track records for this. I hope you're happy.
The 400m dash: Gen wins, because he's not great at distance but Din can that boy sprint. He clocks in roughly at the 50 second mark, and there's a good five seconds of space between him and the next finisher. Realm finishes last, at about two hours and thirteen minutes, because he got lost. This skews the results horribly. Nobody is willing to try it again.
The mile: Lore wins, somewhere around 8-and-a-half minutes, because he just started jogging and then... never stopped. Mask and Dusk are close seconds. Realm finishes last, roughly ten hours later, because he got lost. At this point everybody just mentally removes Realm's time from the list.
The half-marathon: Realm wins by a landslide when he comes in at twenty minutes. Apparently, he got lost. This, at some point, seemed to clash directly with the amount of distance he was trying to travel. Everyone else decides to mentally remove Realm's time from the list again, albeit for completely different reasons. Last finisher is Steam, who does his best but just isn't used to running everywhere the way his siblings are. He comes in at a little over two and a half hours.
(If all modifiers were removed, the winners would be Gen, Realm, and Realm again, respectively. The loser would be Steam, every time, poor boy. With modifiers, such as a wolf, a Goron, a bunny hood, pegasus boots, etc, it's an all-out free for all war and nobody actually sees who got first through all the dust they kicked up.)

Run, run, run, jump
Plenty of games have a stamina system that forces you to slow down after running for a while. TF2 doesn’t - you can run at your full speed for as long as you want. But what if, say, the Scout’s movement worked a little different?
Stamina system (+) Double-tap your forward key to dash, moving at 400 HU/s [current Scout speed]. (-) Stamina drains after five seconds of dashing and takes 12 seconds to regenerate fully. While not dashing, you move at 320 HU/s [current Spy/Medic speed].
This sounds like a huge pain, really. Why would you want to not go fast? It’s fun to go fast, and that speed is part of the adrenaline-packed gameplay that the Scout offers.
But at the same time, items like the Concheror show us that bursts of speed can be really exhilarating, even more than if you’re always moving quickly. And since it’s a meter you can deploy as you want, you get to manage your resources skillfully to get an edge over your opposition. That always gives a lot of satisfaction - although it can be frustrating if you feel like you never have enough stamina left.
On the enemy side, you now have ways to reasonably outplay an enemy Scout. If you can force them to use their sprint meter to get to you, they’ll be easier to hit and can’t run away as effectively. But when you deal with a good Scout, one who can use their dash to rapidly change their speed on the fly, your prediction goes out the window - it’s like trying to hit a baseball that’s constantly getting faster and slower. That can absolutely ruin your aim and make for a very unsatisfying fight.
So, is this idea good for the game? Eh, probably not. Would it ever be added? Gosh, no, but it seemed like an out-of-the-box thing to talk about. I’d be curious to know, though - do your favorite games use stamina systems, or not? How do you feel about them, if you’ve played with them before? I’ve never really liked them in singleplayer games, but that might just be me.

[ weird things ] | how we trapped ourselves in a boring cyberpunk dystopia
Many of us are living in a dystopian future, but realizing that fact and making changes to fix it are much more difficult than it sounds. Ask anime fans about Darling In The Franxx and you’re bound to hear a whole lot of groaning and gnashing of teeth. It had such a promising, strong start, but ultimately, it was like watching a star athlete begin a 400 meter dash with nearly superhuman speed…

Around The Track and Back
Tumblr media
In the track aspect of the sport, there are a minimum of 10 events. Here are 6 out of the ten:100 Meters: The 100 meter dash is the shortest sprint and distance you can do in track. this distance takes up about 1/4 of the track. You are typically competing against a maximum amount of 5 other people in staggered lines. Also, to try and compete a better time, runners can use spiked shoes. These help grip into the track and can make a person get a faster time! These shoes can be used in any track event.
Tumblr media
200 meters: The 200 meter dash is the second shortest sprint and distance you can do in track. Instead of 1/4 of the track, this event takes up 1/2 of the track. You are typically competing staggered against a max amount of 5 other people, as well. The only thing that differentiates this event from the 100 meters, is this distance and  the qualifying time.
Tumblr media
400 meters: the 400 meter dash is considered the toughest sprint you can do in track. This event is sprinting one full lap around the track, typically competing against a max amount of 5 other people. This is the last of the sprinting events.
Tumblr media
800 meters: the 800 meter run is the shortest run someone can compete. this event is double the 400 meters, making it 2 laps around the track, instead of one. therefore, instead of being in the sprinting category, it is normally event considered in the "middle-distance" category. A competitor will normally go up against 5 other people, just like every other running/sprinting event.
Tumblr media
1600 meters: the 1600 meter run is actually the most common running event in the olympics. this event is when a runner completes 1 full mile around the track, running 4 full laps around. This is considered the "sister event" to the most uncommon running event-the 1500 meter run, otherwise known as "the metric mile". it is almost never included in a track and field meet. for this event, just like the others, a person would typically compete against a maximum of 5 other people.

3200 meters: the 3200 meter run is the longest running event and distance that there is in track. in this event, a person would need to complete 8 full laps around. this requires the most cardio-endurance, and a lot of motivation and dedication from the runner. you compete this event with, again, a maximum of 5 other people.
