Just watched the first three episodes and jotting down my thoughts before I finally remove my filters and read other people's thoughts. <3
I'm sure I missed a bunch, but I'll be rewatch the next couple of days.
There will be mild book spoilers in the sense that I'll talk about differences and pacing and whatnot, but only through book 2, The Great Hunt.
Okay, okay okay okay. I was surprised by so many things, even with the teasers and trailers!
I just feel so hyped and thrilled and I hope that everyone else loved that as much as I did, wow.
I don't even know where to start!
I was NOT expecting the Seanchan to be introduced so quickly! Holy shit! Uno is DEAD! And in such a nasty way. That was such a bold introduction to the Seanchan. And now Perrin is split off on his own with Elyas and the wolves. I loved the talk that he and Ishamael had and it really set up a reason for Perrin to worry about the wolf inside him too.
My girl Elayne! She was very sweet. I'm looking forward to her getting to know Nynaeve in the upcoming episodes. I am sorry for @markantonys's sake that we still have not heard anything about her brothers, though!
Egwene and Nynaeve getting very different Tower experience overall. Liandrin taking Nynaeve under her wing seemed... sincere? We still don't entirely know her situation.
Nynaeve's journeys through the arches made me cry! I'm just... it was a lot, I feel very emotional.
@markantonys was right that they made Verin and Adelas sisters and it worked really well. That whole plotline with them and Moiraine and Lan was very interesting and surprising. So Moiraine has the info about Toman Head.
Mat's plotline! Mat and Min being captives together, except that Min is working for Liandrin (on a promise to be left along by Aes Sedai? Moiraine's methods backfiring on her) so Liandrin's eyes are on Mat even though she's pretending to let him leave. I am fascinated by this plotline (is she going to lead him to Falme? is she going to lead him to Cairhien?) I also wonder if part of the reason she's willing to betray him is due to that viewing she had of Mat stabbing Rand (which was, again, fascinating!). Mat almost talking to Egwene was heartbreaking, thanks!
And my boy Rand!!!! He's trying to find his own mentors (first Errol with learning sword forms and then trying to get Logain to teach him). And everything that Selene said was just... amazingly double-sided. Being with you helps me remember the man I was in love with indeed, lol! (also, um, given that that last sex scene with Selene was a dream of Rand's, apparently he kinda wants someone to call him 'my lord' during sex so, that's interesting -- also, dream!Rand had Selene's number better than awake!Rand)
I love that we got to see the EF5 being connected in their hearts even when they were separated from each other.
Oh, man, I'm just so overwhelmed. Will definitely be doing a deeper dive on all these episodes this weekend!
the way sam and dean don't even KNOW that there are like hunter networks and hangouts and that there are whole communities and word travels fast and that the first they're hearing ANY of this is coming from Gordon, some random ass dude they don't even know...like WOW john kept those boys INSULATED insulated
Don't know what folks are on about, that Loki ep was hilarious.
What I loved:
*Mobius being excited to go into full detective mode. He truely loves that, he's such a cliche, it's cute. Right down to hunting for sweets everywhere he goes.
*Loki being Loki -his (feigned?) indignation when being disrespected, then simply sweeping people away with a wave? Very sexy of him
*Victor calling Mobius Loki's butler. That was much needed, after 8 eps of Mobius not taking him fully seriously (and Brad's 'pet' comment).
*Miss Minutes trying to flirt. My sweet little psycho clock. (Give her a body already, she'll cause so much chaos)
*Victor switching from bumbling idiot to conman to actually being competent. Interesting. Don't trust him a bit.
*'I can make my own choices' being the thing that gets Sylvie and stops her from killing Victor (the 'minority report dilemma aside). She's all about free will, that was a powerful scene.
*The subtle green glow in Loki's palm, his magic actually bring his weapon that he has ready at all times
*Loki and Mobius being fully on board with Ravonna potentially getting killed. Ok then, they got their priorities straight. (Yeah, she tried to kill them too, it's still different, when the supposed 'heroes' act the same).
*Sylvie not killing Ravonna (she's such an interesting character, I wanna keep her).
*I already said it, but best line hands down: 'He switches sides, it's a well documented behavioral trait'
Warnings: TWD gore and violence. Bad language. 18+

An unsolicited observation but in 5x17 I never really thought much about Buck being at the house with Eddie and Christopher while they are packing to leave for his dad's retirement party in El Paso . But at the beginning of the scene Eddie is hurrying Chris along saying "...we still have to pick up Tia Pepa". Recently it occurred to me that Buck probably wasn't there just to hang out. He was probably taking them to the airport which means he was taking Pepa as well. It made me start to wonder, canonically, about Buck's place in the extended Diaz family as well.
It's small throwaway lines like this that I'm now starting to think have been used to imply that Buck and Eddie have a much more involvement in each other's lives than we have been shown on screen. Particularly in the wake of recent episodes that finally seems to be revealing those interactions and framing them as normal in their lives instead of as a "new normal" because of the lightning strike.
I'm sure this is obvious to you. You are have such an eye for detail when it comes to this show and this ship.
Thank you @spiceyreads for the ask and I agree with you because the time Buck spent with Eddie and Chris in 5x17 "Hero Complex" (even though the audience didn't see Chris in the episode, it was implied he was there) was just as important as the scenes Buck and Eddie had with Pepa in 2x4 "Stuck". Buck met her when he drove Eddie to the hospital. (Buck driving Eddie to the hospital was possibly another piece of relevant information regarding Buck and Eddie's relationship that may have been missed by some. They were at work so why did Buck drive Eddie to the hospital? Well... it's because Buck always drives when they're in the car together just like he did at the end of 2x3 when he drove Eddie to pick Chris up from school after the earthquake, he drove in 4x12 during the treasure hunt and in 4x13 when he drove the battalion car so they could save Charlie.)
Buck and Eddie are extremely involved in each other's lives and even though the audience doesn't always see it, they are especially when other scenes with their relatives are taken into account. I've included two examples below (one for Buck and one for Eddie).
Buck knows Eddie's family
In 3x10 "Christmas Spirit" Eddie told Hen, since the 118 had to work, Chris was going to spend Christmas Day with his abuela and she was going to take him to his aunt's (Pepa's) but Isabel was the one who took Chris to the firehouse. Some may have missed it but Buck was probably the one who contacted her. Here's the connection. The family dinner at the firehouse was Buck's idea and he asked Maddie to call Athena to see what she thought about it and they had their conversation while Maddie and Frank were driving to the woods where she killed Doug. Buck worked with Athena to pull it all off and Athena thanked him after they were done eating dinner right before they took the family picture. Here's the thing... it's unlikely that Athena knows Eddie's abuela but Buck knows her and he knows Pepa too so he was probably the one who called her and explained if she brought Chris to the firehouse, he would get to spend time with Eddie on the holiday.
Eddie talks to Buck's parents
In 4x5 "Buck Begins", when Buck's parents went to the firehouse, Margaret told Buck after he went upstairs, the firefighters seemed to like him a lot and it was probably Eddie who talked to them while they were waiting for Buck to return to the firehouse. Here's the connection. They met Chimney in 4x4 which means they would have mentioned him by name if he was one of the firefighters who spoke well of their son. Bobby wasn't there because he took Buck to the doctor, therefore Eddie and Hen were the only two people from A-shift left. Hen wasn't shown on-screen prior to the scene but Eddie was and he told Buck he had some visitors and nodded his head towards the stairs. After Buck walked past him, Eddie watched him walk up there. Therefore Eddie was probably the one who talked to the Buckleys and told them only good things about their son. Also Margaret said, "You were born to save someone and that's what you do every day". Well... she didn't know jack squat about Buck so how in the frick frack did she know what he does every day? The answer is she didn't, until Eddie told her.
Again, thank you for the ask and I hope my response added further credence to the important roles Buck and Eddie have in each other's lives.
hey happy ww to you too! very broad question but what are your (fave) dark!samdean headcanons? how dark is up to you<3
Happy WW, and thank you for the ask!! Broad questions are always fun, because there's a lot to do with them :D (Also, sorry for the length but dark struff gets me going). But uh, this got incredibly dark and messed up actually, so buyer beware
My current fave is that Sam enjoys hurting people a little too much, and Dean really, really likes being hurt.
CW for violence, gore/guro, very very extreme sadomasochism, non-con, some mentions of John/Dean
I think Sam probably liked hurting others when he was younger. Not really because he doesn't have empathy, he absolutely does and he feels quite acutely. At the same time, when he beat up a bully or got to kill a monster, it felt better than it should have. And because he has that empathy, he feels deeply guilty and disgusted at himself for it. Which is one of the reasons he's so reluctant to get into hunting again. It's been a while since I watched S1 but I remember thinking that Sam doesn't really kill/hurt a lot of monsters in the early episodes, so I will run with that and say it might be due to Sam being afraid of what he's gonna feel once he does.
But once he gets into hunting, all of those urges just come back stronger than ever. Some part of Sam loves hunting, and as a result, the rest of him hates it. But, he can't really stop, it's like an addiction. It's so intense for him to watch a monster breathe their last breath with his knife in their throat, or when he gets to chase down someone who's running away, afraid for their life. With Dean there, it's easy to keep in check however. There's an entire episode (2x3"Bloodlust") that's a about Dean enjoying hunting a little too much, and I feel like seeing Dean do something that seems morally wrong helps Sam to ground himself and stay away from hunting to just satiate his sadistic and murderous urges.
Dean likes hurting people, but even more than that, he loves being hurt in every way possible. I'm a big fan of Dean/John, and while I don't hc John as some kind of serial-rapist, I absolutely do think that something happened one night while John was drunk that kind of changed Dean.
Dean doesn't really value himself or his body, but I think one of the main reasons he's so willing to put himself in danger is also to satiate some kind of deep urge inside of him, awakened both by the feeling that he doesn't matter and that one night with John. The pain feels good to him, and he seeks it out almost compulsively. Dean does not want to be in control, so he seeks out scenarios where he isn't. I think that both shows during his hunts but also in his sex life. I think Dean would purposefully put himself into situations where he might be drugged and/or taken advantage off, just because part of him craves that sense of helplessness, return to it in some way to understand it, and because it absolutely arouses him.
Hell, in a way, was absolutely horrible and traumatizing and yet so utterly amazing. Dean got messed up in ways he can't even describe and part of him absolutely loved it. Things that wouldn't be possible to do to an alive human were so easily done in hell. And Dean had no control in any of it. Maybe his first time torturing someone was not because he wanted to hurt others, but because he was promised that he'd be on the rack again after.
Now, when it comes up between Sam and Dean, it gets messy. I feel like the first time it'd come up is Souless!Sam. Sam doesn't really have any inhibitions in that state, meaning that he spent an entire year hunting and hurting and killing without the moral inhibitions usually keeping him from exploring what that meant. Now, he used an entire year finding out what he liked.
And, as a result, he'd 100% do the worst possible things to Dean, if given the chance. Dean being turned into a vampire would be the best chance for Sam to try out what he wants on his beloved brother. Dean regenerates, so Sam goes absolutely crazy on him. He stabs, shoots, guts, cuts and hurts Dean in every possible way. By the end, both of them are hard, and Sam fucks Dean with his hands pushed into his brother's guts.
Their whole relationship in S6 would be pretty fucked up, even after Dean was cured. Sam can't really torture his brother the same way he did the first time, but he keeps doing what he can. Putting Dean into incredibly dangerous situations, fucking Dean when he's hurt and close to dying, but making sure to never actually letting him die. Having sex with Dean whereever he wants, no matter who can hear. It's kind of like the floodgates opened and years of suppressed feelings are now needing an out. Dean tries to protest, he really does, but Sam never really cares for it, and what can Dean do? He couldn't fight off John, either.
I think the memories of that time between Soulless!Sam and Dean would be the ones death locks up and also part of the ones that Cas essentially takes up, meaning that Sam, in the end, remembers nothing about what he did to his brother. He is back to his old, ashamed but controlled self. And Dean is left missing the other him, wondering whether that Sam is still there, somewhere, hidden. But, I don't think it would ever come up again, it's just another quiet burden Dean carries. The memories of it now used to push himself over the edge below his sheets.
tom and greg being shown to clearly interact more or less in the bg before tom's whole "hey good to see you man" thing...
...like whatever he was saying before, tom had to wait until he and greg were really alone, surrounded by nothing but nature, to tell him that. really only makes it even more obvious that what he's saying is "i've deeply missed you" :')
This is so unhinged, but like the main cast and numbers plus how it relates to episodes where they have the most significance. Like this is basically me trying to understand main character arcs via numbers and it’s going to be at least a little unhinged, if not like I completely flipped my rocker anyway let’s go. The main cast for the purpose of this will be the older teenagers, the Byers, Hopper, Erica, and the entire party, plus some other characters of interest.
First the prime numbers up until and including eleven- one, two, three, five, seven, eleven. Two and three can be multiplied by two and three interchangeable and still remain under double digits. I’m switching to typing the actual numbers so it’s easier to look at. 2x2 = 4, 2x3/3x2 = 6, 3x3 = 9, you can also take 2 to the third power and get 8. Visually this is 2x2x2 = 8.
So, the party and their names are as follows.
Maxine “Max” Mayfield occasionally referred to as Madmax
6, 3, 8, 6
Prime break down of 6 is 2x3 (Max’s first interaction with the supernatural)
Without adjustment 3x8 is the episode Max witnessed B*lly’s death so it’s a traumatic event.
2x6 (Lucas tells Max about everything regarding Dart even going as far as to let her in on the hunt)
Now 3x3 is 9 so the 9th episodes. Season 2 – Max goes to burn the tunnels with the party. Season 4 – dies in the 9th episode.
Max counts as a prime number character and a 3 character so most of her big events happen either on a prime numbered episode (being introduced in 2x1), a multiple of 3 episode (3,6,9), and very rarely on an 8 specifically.
It tracks that 4 isn’t dangerous for her considering she escaped in the 4th episode.
Michael “Mike” Wheeler
7,4,7
Prime break down of 4 is 2x2.
Mike is both a prime character and an even character so if something were going to happen to him it would be in a prime episode or an even episode. The breakdown would essentially be episodes 1, 2, 3, 5 or 7 vs 4 or 8. Looking at the way he is set up though it’s more likely we have to watch for 7, 4 or 8 specifically maybe even 1, however the other stuff can probably be ignored.
That tracks, the lab incident in season 2 was between episodes 7 and 8 after all. The episode about the body occurred in season 1 episode 4. He watched El sacrifice herself and basically disappear in episode 8 of season 1.
This isn’t exact obviously, but like it’s something. I did use this to find the cliff scene (via Dustin) and the episode where Lucas got into that conflict with El (using Lucas). I’m not going through the rest and if this seems unhinged that’s because it is, but in case you wanted to know Robin and Lucas are prime number characters so referring to episodes 1,2,3,5, or 7 might give character insights. Barbara “Barb” Holland is 7, 4, 7. We see Barb’s dead body in season 1 episode 7 and again in season 4 episode 7.
None of this is really big enough for a post of its own, so I'm just posting a few thoughts
Another Rand & Egwene parallel this season just came to mind:
In 2x3, Logain demands wine before he'll teach Rand anything and Rand goes out of his way to get him the wine he asks for, only to have Logain pour it out and waste it, because it was never about the wine but about seeing what he could get Rand to do for him.
In 2x6, Renna demands that Egwene pour her a glass of water, and after Egwene breaks enough that she's able to do it without picturing herself hitting Renna with the pitcher, Renna pours out the water on the floor and wastes it, because it was never about the water but about what she could force Egwene to do.
And we have the purity of water (saidar) vs a pleasant intoxicant in wine, something that damages the body but makes the person who drinks it feel good (corrupted saidin).
...
Also, a note about Nynaeve not healing Rand in 2x8:
“Moiraine says Nynaeve must have done something, or you wouldn’t have lived till we carried you to Verin, but Nynaeve says she was too frightened to light a candle. There is . . . something wrong with your wound. You will have to wait for it to heal naturally.” (from The Great Hunt)
It's clear that the show was leaning on that part of Nynaeve's issue when she was in Falme, imo. Because her block needs to be a problem so that she has a very strong reason to want to break it.
...
re: Lan Investigating Moiraine's stilling issue, the Amrylin that Verin wanted to look up a passage about was Tetsuan, an Amyrlin from the Red Ajah and one who was stripped of her stole and stilled -- might have ended up being part of Lan's investigations into stilling, since he did note Tower records, and it seems like the journey he went on was:
2x1: Tifan's Well (in Arafel) with Moiraine, Verin, Adealas, & Tomas
2x2: Traveling south with Moiraine & co, and then handed off to Alanna & co
2x3-2x4: hanging with Alanna, Ihvon, & Maksim at her family's place, which is in Arafel but sounds closer to Tar Valon
2x5: confrontation with Alanna & her Warders on the road to Tar Valon
2x6: meeting up with Siuan on the road; at first I assumed that they went back to the White Tower before going to Cairhien but Liandrin states in this episode that they were 'called' to Cairhien to meet up with Siuan, which implies to me that Siuan and Lan DIDN'T go back to the Tower first
Which makes me think about Verin, doing investigations in the Tower about the Black Ajah, sure, but she was also investigating at least one person in history who had been stilled. Did she sneak some Tower records to Lan? From 2x7, we know that he's the one who basically hooked Verin and Alanna both in on the plan (Alanna and her Warders are talking about how Lan has said that Verin can be trusted).
2x7: completes his investigation when he speaks with Logain & confirms the weave on Moiraine
...
And then there was an official Amazon press release back on the 15th, which did confirm that part of The Fires of Heaven will be covered in s3, which... I'm still leaning towards that being the doorway encounter. "[at NYCC] Judkins revealed that Season Three of The Wheel of Time will focus primarily on the storylines from Book Four, with elements of Book Five".
But Rand & Aviendha's romance also seems likely to be one of the elements from book 5 that's brought forward into s3 (if Lanfear is going to crack at the end of s3 over the idea of Rand loving someone else, then Rand/Avi would kinda need to be somewhat accelerated). If they still want to start Aviendha off as somewhat resentful/wary of Rand, they might tie it into the fact that he had Moiraine lie to everyone about him being dead (so she's offended on Perrin's behalf, essentially, instead of on Elayne's) and it takes him proving that he's going to do his duty to the Aiel people that makes her soften towards him.
I'm feeling pretty good about my early speculation of 3x3 being Rhuidean, because of the casting of Maigran being for director Thomas Knapper, who is filming/filmed 3x3 & 3x4, so it'll definitely be either 3 or 4. Rafe also talked about how Rand & Perrin are going to have 'focus' episodes in s3, like how Nynaeve had 2x3 and Egwene had 2x6.
My guess is that Mat would get that kind of focus episode in s4 (probably the formation of the Band of the Red Hand); and maybe Elayne would get one in s4 as well, which would have meant all six of our main younger cast would have gotten a big focus episode by the end of s4.
I do think/hope that it's very unlikely that we won't get s4, but I'm definitely hoping that we get all 8 seasons that Rafe wants. But I can see a path to finishing the show in s5 and still hitting all the main beats (won't go into details here for spoiler reasons! but they've set up a lot of the foreshadowing and puzzle pieces that they would need), as long as Rafe knows going into the final season that it's the last one.
The big wildcard for me right now is Rand/Elayne. Their introduction felt very much like a promise that their romance is 100% happening*, but they are also destined to have separated storylines for most of s3 (and if they follow the books, the entirety of s4 (!), though I feel like it would be very easy for them to let Elayne be part of Rand's storyline that season because her plotline in TFoH is literally just wandering the continent in a sidequest while Nynaeve tries to remember a word; it's a fun sidequest but 100% a sidequest).
So my most generous to Rand & Elayne's development outline for s3 would be:
episodes 1&2 are in Falme for Rand's group, and our team isn't going to Caemlyn at all (Caemlyn is reserved for introducing Elaida & co to the audience, in this case). Episode 1 would be Rand & Egwene's final breakup, and then episode 2 would be Elayne having sparks with Rand (and maybe also Aviendha?) but nothing solidly romantic happening. Just some ~vibes~.
episodes 3-6 feature them being separated into their own plotlines, with Elayne and Nynaeve staying behind on the west coast while everyone else goes east (through the Ways?). Rand and Aviendha grow closer together while Rand deals with his stalker ex-girlfriend (Lanfear) who keeps bringing him gifts (Asmodean).
episodes 7&8 has Elayne & Nynaeve rejoining Rand's group (which also would give Nynaeve & Lan more time together, which Daniel has implied that we'll get -- he said in that one s3 teaser interview that the show would be going further along in the relationship than the books had at this point and if that's the case, then a lot needs to happen in s3), in Tear or maybe in Cairhien. And that would be half the season of Elayne and Rand getting to be in the same place. If they get to spend half the season together, that does give considerable time for relationship growth, especially with that separation in the middle to give them time to miss each other.
If in Perrin's storyline in 3-6, we have a subplot about Bain, Chiad, & Gaul, then this could also be more subconscious priming of the audience towards not being weirded out if s3 ends with Elayne, Rand, and Aviendha all having some feelings for each other.
That being said, I do kinda lean towards the idea that s3 is gonna be Rand & Aviendha's season, and the show will make some plot adjustments so that Elayne will actually get to be in the same place as Rand in s4 and so s4 will be either Rand/Elayne or Aviendha/Rand/Elayne. And if we don't get any kind of reunion at the end of s3, then I'm guessing that would happen near the beginning of s4 instead.
(* Though Rafe talks about Rand and Elayne's first meeting in his collider interview:
"We really wanted to flag for the audience that this is a relationship to pay attention to. So having her heal him of this wound that can’t be healed is a way to cement right away for the audience, 'These two have a connection to each other, and I’m paying attention to what’s going on with the two of them.' The way he sees her, the way that she comes into the scene, it all hopefully is signaling to an audience that’s not familiar with the books that there’s something to really pay attention to there — because there is." Which kinda implies they're going to follow up on it sooner rather than later. But who knows!)
