And for those who may have been confused, THIS is why we were so tense.

The worst thing about the current tory party crumbling is we’ve seen this time and time again ( E.g 2019) but nothing will change they’ll elect a new leader , the new leader will call a snap general election and everyone who voted Boris will say “well we need to give this new person a chance to do better.” The tories are smart, as shit as it is they’re far loyaler to themselves than the left are, because they know they’d rather have the shitest tory leading the country then no tory at all.

Action Time: Lobbyists are trying to kill S.2992 in Congress! Don’t let Amazon off the hook!!
Big tech lobbies are running smear campaign ads on national television now trying to kill S.2992 by using the inflation fears to drum up negative support! This bill will give important rights to smaller businesses forced to operate on bigger platforms and protect these small shops! Here is the bill’s overview:
American Innovation and Choice Online Act
This bill prohibits certain large online platforms from engaging in specified acts, including giving preference to their own products on the platform, unfairly limiting the availability on the platform of competing products from another business, or discriminating in the application or enforcement of the platform's terms of service among similarly situated users.
Further, a platform may not materially restrict or impede the capacity of a competing business user to access or interoperate with the same platform, operating system, or hardware or software features. The bill also restricts the platform's use of nonpublic data obtained from or generated on the platform and prohibits the platform from restricting access to platform data generated by the activity of a competing business user. The bill also provides additional restrictions related to installing or uninstalling software, search or ranking functionality, and retaliation for contact with law enforcement regarding actual or potential violations of law.
The bill establishes affirmative defenses for the prohibited conduct.

If lobbyists push big, big ads down to the public, then they’re not feeling confident on their position with the usual corruption in our government! They’re trying to mobilize us, the citizens, to act against our own interests! Here is the final screen of the multi-state multi-million dollar ad campaign:
Tumblr media
This bill is intended to be passed this summer! We need to explore any measure to reign in the big tech companies should be taken!
“Anytime a corporate accountability bill gathers steam, the concern trolling heats up and some members try to block a vote because they don’t want to alienate powerful companies,” said Dan Geldon, former chief of staff to Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) — who has led the push to break up the largest tech companies. “But the idea that a popular bipartisan bill like this would hurt any of the re-elects doesn’t pass a straight face test. The polling is incredibly clear on that.”
Source: Politico
I googled the bill and it sounded scary. What about Amazon Prime’s 2-day shipping threat?
It is true Amazon Prime may end up removing their 2-day shipping as a result of this bill. But I am urging you to reconsider how much in your life you actually needed in 2 days time. Not only is this feature a way of forcing more sellers to go through Amazon, this interferes with other competition, including physical stores! Secondly, 2-day shipping is extra harmful to the environment.
Super-fast shipping comes with high environmental costs - NPR America’s addition to absurdly fast shipping has a hidden cost - CNN The environmental cost of free 2-day shipping - VOX
And lastly, if nothing else, can we remember that human beings are still largely responsible for the incredible speed of these deliveries- and the frequency of them is taking a massive toll on an already overworked labor force?
The True Cost of Two-Day Shipping - GreenAmerica.org Exhausted workers, polluting journeys: how unethical is next-day delivery? - The Guardian
“The quota system pushes you to really not work at a pace that’s normal, but at a pace where you’re almost running for the entire 10 hours.” (Source)
Tumblr media
We cannot let the lobbying campaign of the big tech industry stop this bill! Too much power has already been consolidated into their hands, and we are on a strong trajectory to get this bill through! Contact your Senator, even if you’re in a blue state, and demand their support on s2992, American Innovation and Choice Online Act!
Senate list of Phone Numbers can be found here! Remember the number is 202-224-   and the last 4 for your particular senator!
Be respectful with their staff but demand their commitment to support small businesses, local physical stores, and the natural reduction of unnecessary high-speed delivery!
You should especially call the following DEMOCRATIC Senators who have waning support:
Senator Maggie Hassan (New Hampshire)
Senator Michael Bennet (Colorado)
Senator Alex Padilla (California)
Senator Dianne Feinstien (California)
Show them they shouldn’t be afraid of their jobs just because Big Tech is pushing them! We are the majority, 75% of their own polled constituents are for this bill! (Source)
So, are you not sure what to tell them? Speak from my script then:
“Hello, I am calling to leave a message with Senator (______). I want to see the Senator commit to voting in favor of s2992, the American Innovation and Choice Act. This is a critical step forward to a more equitable online experience for small businesses and consumers alike. If the Senator wishes to have my vote, and the vote of the ( # ) people in my household, then they need to swiftly pass s2992. Thank you for passing this bill.”

I will shout it from the mountaintops as long as necessary...
If your only stance on politics is that you don't like politics, you're a dumbass.
I know that seems harsh and stupid, but like, come the fuck on guys. Political views and affiliations are a reflection of your values as a person. By extension, hating politics for the sake of hating politics means one of a few things.
Your moral values are that you don't give half a fuck about people's struggles until someone makes it easy and approachable to you, in which case you may give an opinion
You have no moral backbone, but instead of developing one, you turn tail from discussions like that because it's far easier to you.
You're spiteful of the people who do talk about it, and therefore hate it because you just want to.
You just aren't really that smart. It's a hell of a lot of important issues, that scares you and you back away.
While there are definite exceptions, most people fall into one of those 4 categories. So if you're one of those people that hate politics as a whole, consider which of the 4 points you fall into, and take a stance (preferably against the racist homophobic transphobes who want to control women's bodies). That's it, thank you for coming to my TED Talk, and goodnight.

Don't Lose Your Vote! UK Edition
A snap general election could be called any day. This will be the first general election that requires photo ID if you vote at the polls (postal votes 📫 are unaffected by the Election Act 2022).
If you don't have an approved form of identification (list here), you can apply for a FREE voter ID photo card. Find out more below or use these 5 minutes to register and get your ID sorted instead ❎ because, and this is important to know, the government really doesn't want young people to vote.
The Explanation
Rishi Sunak, UK Prime Minister and Leader of the Conservative Party, may call a snap election in 2023. (A snap election is a vote brought in earlier ⏱ than the one that’s scheduled 🕐) The UK’s next general election (for MPs and the PM) is meant to happen between December 2024 and January 2025.
A snap election happens in as little as 25 days 😨 between the announcement (aka the PM asking the House of Commons’ to approve the dissolution of Parliament) and the vote 🏃‍♀️
You must be registered to vote - currently over 8 million people are not. Unlike other a democratic countries, the UK doesn’t automatically register all eligible voters. You have to do this yourself. Here’s a quick reminder of how to register:
youtube
Over the past 15 years, it has gotten harder for British citizens to vote:
Families can no longer register to vote as a household 🏡 so young voters must register themselves (Cameron Govt)
Colleges and universities are barred from registering students 👨‍🎓 (Cameron Govt)
The Elections Act requires photo ID 🤳 for anyone voting in person (Johnson Govt)
Local elections (for city and town governments) in 2023 were the first votes that required VOTER ID. According to the Electoral Commission, over 14,000 people were turned away from the polls because they had not heard about the change.
The House of Lords tried to amend the Elections Act before it passed, to include more common types of ID, such as bank statements, bills, student ID, library cards and much more. This amendment was struck down in the House of Commons. A lot of the IDs included in the approved list are more likely to be owned by older voters than younger ones. For example, a 60+ Oyster Card is acceptable ID but an 18+ Oyster Card is not.
Here’s the important thing to know: voters who don’t have a driving licence or passport or other approved forms of ID, can apply for a free voter ID photo card. Watch the video below to find out how!
youtube
And finally, please, for the love of our democracy, vote.
"Democracy is not something you believe in or a place to hang your hat, but it's something you do. You participate. If you stop doing it, democracy crumbles." Abbie Hoffman

Idk man, 2022 didn't fuck around?
The Queen dies;
Jair Bolsonaro loses in Brazil, and decides to go away WITHOUT trying a coup (this was not a given)
Putin gets his ass kicked in Ukraine, the world comes together to oppose him;
The GOP's much hyped "Red Wave" in the American midterms is a Big Lol; now they have to contend with the Talented Mr. Santos and the constant clown show that will be a Republican House and Kevin McCarthy trying DESPERATELY to get elected speaker;
The Democrats kept the Senate and even added a seat, while capping off a year of big and meaningful legislative accomplishments; hence if certain unnamed SCOTUS justices snuff it in the next two years, they can fill that seat;
The Tories, after an absolutely laugh-so-you-don't cry year of absolutely surreal comedic incompetence inflicted on the people of Britain, are an average of 26 points behind in general opinion polls;
Sex trafficker and all around miserable misogynist Andrew Tate tries to pick a fight with Greta Thunberg, self owns to an amazing degree, is now being held in a Romanian prison for another month after stupidly giving his location away via pizza box;
Former Pope Benedict XVI, aka a decades-long enforcer of sexual abuse coverups in the Catholic Church as well as various other reprehensible moral positions, kicks the bucket (on the last day of the year)
A new climate deal was made;
And so on.
I mean, various other bad things very much still did happen, and it was a tough year for a lot of us on a personal level, but this is the first year since probably 2016 where it feels like there's actually a bit of hope for the future on a big structural level, and I appreciate that.
