Wonder Woman #4 - 12/19/2023

one thing I’ve seen a lot of portwells/ej stans mention is that the wildcats were “bad friends” for not helping ej with his stress/pinning more specific blame on gina for not helping her boyfriend when he was stressed. for one, this is kinda blatantly not true. besides the fact that ej refused to ask them for help (and understandably so) by not revealing that he was director at the beginning of 302 or inviting miss jenn to outsource help, for example, most of them helped him/offered to help in one way or another. gina constantly shared her faith in his abilities and even offered to step back on their relationship while at camp to allow him more free time. val appeared to fulfill a lot of the directing role with casting and helping to organize the readthrough. maddox helped with organizing auditions. carlos (along with val) organized rcosl to help get more drama. I could share more examples but they serve to highlight that when ej was drowning, he was not left at sea. a lot of his stress was intrinsic, and even all the help in the world was going to prevent it because of pressure he imposed on himself. to blame his friends, who were there to have fun, with the only responsibility on their plate being to learn their lines, is a misunderstanding of why he was stressed and how he could be helped. the best thing they could do for him was learn their roles for opening night. in fact, miss jenn literally tells him “if they know their lines, they’ll be fine.” i also wanna mention that ej didn’t really seem to be failing at directing. it was more of a combination of personal doubt and the introduction of the production being filmed. the latter likely placed stress on all of them and there was nothing that they could really do to change that for themselves, let alone ej. anyways, all this is leading up to my main question: what did you guys want the wildcats to do for ej? take on directing parts of the show while also learning their lines in under two weeks? magically find him a way to please his father? the stress that ej was under sucked. but it wasn’t the fault of his friends, nor could it disappear in the presence of sweet words. I just wanted to pose this inquiry to his stans and open it up for respectful debate!

My dogs have both been forced to suffer the indignity of sweaters and little booties to go outside and use the bathroom because the wind chill has been like -10 to -40 the last few days, but now that there's actual snow piling up I'm very much considering just laying out a towel in the bathroom for them because their little legs don't clear the snow and they're both little old ladies now and I've already had to "rescue" one of them bc she got snow in one of her boots.

There are four main types of Batfam fans in regard to how people interpret Bruce Wayne as a dad (/Joking. This is mostly satire and should not be taken seriously):

Fans that think Bruce is emotionally constipated and isn't the best at being a parent but still tries (Differs per person). Don't necessarily think he's absuive but thinks he can be toxic or have unhealthy expectations for the Robins. Can smell the Oldest Daughter Syndrome coming from Dick and have Family Line (By Conan Gray) as their top song on their Dick inspired playlist and Daddy Issues (By The Neighbourhood) for Jason.

Fans that choose to believe Bruce goes to therapy in their own canon. Love B:WFA. Thinks the comic can be cheesy at times and so find a balance between B:WFA Bruce and Please Go To Therapy BruceTM as their middle ground. He struggles. They advocate that Bruce is not a bad parent, he just has bad writers that seem to forget Bruce wouldn't hurt kids, especially not his own. Love the humane moments and scenes he has in BTAS and the early JL cartoons. He may not be perfect but he's not literally abusive. Whores for Bruce being able to admit when he is wrong and for Jason and Bruce reconciling. I recommend Grow As We Go by Ben Platt for this one.

A mix between the first two. Was fine-ish when Dick was younger. Didn't help him in the healthiest way but eh. Still emotionally constipated but that happened more so after Dick left and Jason died. Started getting better when Tim came back but was still closed off. Should probably go to therapy with the kids so they can drag his ass about all the things he's done that have actually affected them negatively. Understands his mistakes and is also able to admit when he's wrong, eventually. It's not easy but he starts to do better and learns to be more emotionally available. Still has to get chewed out by Alfred sometimes but definitely better than he used to be and it shows. Reconciliation is slow and gradual but progress is made for everyone involved.

The one's I personally avoid for my own sanity and wellbeing:

Think Bruce is a complete bastard and abuser. Want him to choke. Hate any and all interpretations of him. Some of which will refuse to understand how anyone could have a different interpretation. Will point out comics where, in all fairness, he is a dick but forget that characterisation can significantly differ from one series to the next, as comic characters are constantly passed around to different writers and have been for decades. Not to mention movies, shows, etc.

opinions on popular hc designs ? for trolls n kids and anything else n stuff

for kids i doonnnnntttt think i have many, dont think about hc for kids a lot, but for trolllss i have a few.

first off, grubscars, i hate them. not much the concept but the execution, i feel like if you have to do something like it there are better ways to do it than big bulgy blood-colored blisters on the side of the troll. though most of the time i just dont draw/think of them at all. i like kgtac's idea (if you didnt realize how much i like kgtac by now) that when trolls pupate all their extra limbs and grub stuff just goes into the belly button/nipple areas and close off, and thats why those are there for them..

the other 2 i dont like are blood-hued horns/skin and tails. kind of dont have a reason to or alternative other than just not doing them, but i dont like the way they look. people dont really do the concept justice at all, never anything creative its just there. idk

aand not really a headcanon thing? i dont know really, moreso just general design, i dont like the standardized caste things for trolls, like goldbloods having psiionics (even though sollux/the narrative clearly states that he has that because hes a mutant), purplebloods being juggalos, ceruleanbloods being related to spiders or having multiple eyes, et al. people need to be more free-er on that side of troll designing, specifically.

for the rest, i dont really care much

If pyro was a pybro in canon, i wonder how devoted he would be to the engineer. Like, would he be able to willingly fight engineer if he asked or would that break a promise that pyro swore to himself about always protecting him even if it kills him?? Would he be able to look at him and choose to give him the smallest papercut??
