So, for anyone curious as to how I'm watching the 1960s Batman show:
DVDs I've borrowed from the library because it's not streaming on anything I own and I'm not paying YouTube of all places for it.
On a Play Station 2 because that's the only disc player I own currently.
On a projector I also borrowed from the library because I don't own a TV currently.
I'm not saying this is the only correct way to watch this show, but it does feel pretty nice.

Made a '60s Batman playlist - basically what I'd play during the cocktail hour if I showed the Adam West Batman movie at a party

Girls, come on, leave the saving of Gotham City to the men? I don’t think so!
Anyways, this is a gift for @robingurl, with our 60s Batman OCs Sadie Wayne and Sarah Grayson, aka Night Owl and Gurl Wonder! I hope you like it!

Doodling my friends’ favorite characters
I’ve been trying to force myself to learn anatomy and I’ve decided to start with chibis. I plan on doing around 30 of these doodles in total.
May even color a few, who knows ;)

So uh, anyone want to talk about the fact that in the 1960s Batman Show Commissioner Gordon breaks the fourth wall?
I’ve just started S2, and so far I’ve noticed he’s done it twice in first 8 episodes, I wasn’t fully paying attention so he might have done it more, but mainly at the very end and referring to how great Batman is.

its like every episode one of the henchmen falls for batman, its like they're trying to gaslight me into thinking he's hot and i wont have it
and i think Bookworm and Riddler should be besties and they would complain about trivial things to each other

When you're doing a promo for a popular children's show in 1968 but you also know why their dads are watching it.

Adam West Batman: The Batman who smiles for good reason
Tumblr media
Hello, everyone. As some of you may know, I like to review and give my analysis on famous things that are comic or cartoon related especially when they relevant to my interests. In this case, the Batman franchise. To be specific, the live action Batman tv series from the 60s aka Adam West Batman.
I was a child of the 80s, but this show was popular then too and I watched it. My memories of it are happy and even now, while I now get how campy it is, it is a fun kind of campy of which you respect because it never got obnoxious or insulted the intelligence of the viewer. If anything, it worked with the intellect and imagination of the viewers, which were children, by being fun, inventive, colourful and positive. Contrary to the negative criticism, this show did not take Batman and turn into a fool. It took Batman and allowed him to be fun. Batman’s iconic intelligence and resourcefulness were never ever compromised in the show. If anything, Adam West Batman started the trend of showcasing it especially with all of the neat gadgets and thinking two steps ahead of the bad guys. Another thing I praise this show for was how much care and creativity was put into it. Sure, the costumes were friendlier and brighter, but they were beautiful and so was the scenery, the score and the amount of creativity behind the episodes. It was very clear that the people behind this iconic series loved what they were doing and loved their show. Most importantly, it was clear that they really loved Batman and the qualities about him that make him an amazing hero. And it is not him being broody, rude or angry.
Tumblr media
The qualities that make Batman Batman are his genius, his resourcefulness, his detective skills, his courage and most importantly, his heart. People forget that Batman is only tough and broody when he needs to be. When around others, he is a very compassionate and gentle person. He is not made of rage. He is made of love. For that, Adam West Batman still stands the test of time as a kid’s show and while it is goofy, you fall in love with it unlike the loveless cash cows we see aimed at kids these days. I also have to admit this even if no one else will, to a certain extent, visuals matter. A lot.
Tumblr media
When it comes to stuff aimed for kids, art and style are everything. When it comes to an action series, no matter how campy it is, it needs to have edges, a bit of firmness and good style that screams action. Soft, fluffy and cute art is for shows with no action and are more family oriented like the Care Bears, Remy and Boo and My Little Pony. And that is ok. Soft and round suits them, but for an action series, you needs pointed and sharp edges. And even Adam West Batman has that and it has the fun fight scenes to watch.
In closing, I think this series was a lot of fun and if I had to pick a series to introduce my own son to Batman with, this would be it. In fact, I think I will.
