I am very behind, but it is still technically @digiweek here, and if I do nothing else for this year, I need to submit this.

Day two: prompt sports day/relationship

Izumi dashed down the hallway, breaking into the first unlocked door she could find.

Sports day had never been her scene, she was athletic enough, and would likely excel at a few of the track events, but organized sport, in general, did not appeal to her. And doing so in front of all her classmates even less so. A few boys took the opportunity to not so subtly eye up all the girls.

(She was convinced the girls’ uniforms were more sexualized than the boys. Why should she haft to wear bloomers that didn’t even make it halfway down her thigh while the boys' shorts were knee length?)

Last year she had attempted kendo, simply because the equipment would shield her body from view, but for some reason, this school was full of wanna-be samurai who wouldn’t take it easy on her even if she promised to kiss them to let her win. (except maybe Zenjirou, but giving him even the hint of the wrong impression was not on her to-do list.)

But on this year’s list of events, amongst all the pickup sports games and heats of events, one classroom had been sequestered for ‘dancing’. Which, in this case, meant last year’s edition of Dance-Dance Revolution.

Izumi wasn’t going to look a gift horse in the mouth. She’d spent hours mastering the game at home, and if she was going to be forced into sports day in this ridiculous uniform, she might as well have fun.

It went better than she expected. She knew she was good at the game, but she wasn’t expecting to win every match she was in. When Izumi arrived, the ‘punk queen’ Ruki had already amassed a following of fans due to her successes, and Izumi took her down immediately. She’d also handily spanked the applituber Astoria, who had successfully completed a challenge to beat the game blindfolded, on nothing but rhythm alone.

And then her undoing had been, as always, a cute boy. A blond underclassman she’d never met before in a stupid hat that he somehow pulled off had bet 5000 yen against her phone number. If she had been less high on her string of victories, or his face had been less stupidly handsome, she would have declined. But in the heat of the moment, she accepted.

He was by far not the best dancer she’d gone up against. But then, most of them had dedicated more breath to dancing and not to flirting with her in the middle of the song.

The compliment had been so unexpected, that it had caused her to trip up, literally, taking the nerd running the system down with her. She’d landed on top of the poor redhead, his face between her thighs, which had only caused her to panic more. Slapping the unfortunately placed student before running out of the room.

Which lead her to now.

What exactly was she supposed to do after that? There was no way the whole school wouldn’t know about it by tomorrow. Her success at DDR coming back to haunt her, ensuring there were many observes who knew exactly who she was.

She’d have to transfer, it was the only sensible solution

The door burst open behind her, revealing the person she least wished to see in the world.

She stared at the redhead, limping his way into the classroom before he noticed her presence. When he did, his eyes darted away, and he froze all his actions.

“What are you doing here?” Izumi accused.

“I was getting some Ice for my ankle.” He pointed to the fridge. Izumi had been so caught up in her distress that she hadn’t even realized she’d run into the home-ec classroom.

She felt her eyes lower. “Oh sorry,” she continued to search the floorboards for answers. “Does it hurt?”

“I’ve had worse.” He said simply, resuming his limp to the fridge. “Taichi doesn’t know the definition of ‘gentle’. At least it wasn’t my wrist. I can still work this way.”

“You work?” Izumi asked.

He pulled a bag and filled it with ice cubes. “I do freelance coding work. Mostly subcontracting for American firms. Nothing too big.”

Nothing too big? Did he realize he was still a teenager?

“You were very good.” He offered. “I only play that game when I’m forced to. Are you part of the dance club?”

She rolled her eyes. “What’s the point of being in dance club in a school with two idols.”

The dance club would be forever overshadowed by either of the idols doing an impromptu performance, that’s just the way life was. All the normal boys would much rather shoot their impossible shot with an idol than give normal girls the time of day, except for the flirts and the lecherous ones.

And to make matters worse, both idols were super nice too, so she couldn’t even feel good about hating them.

“I’ve never seen someone being better at me as being a good excuse to quit what I enjoy doing.”

She shrugged. In truth, she likely would have joined the dance club, if she thought she could be friends with any of the current members. But they were just not her type, and she didn’t want to have to put in the effort of building bridges just to have them get broken again. “It's not that, it’s just…girl drama, understand?”

“Not at all.” He said “but it’s normally a good sign to change the conversation. So why are you here?”

That…wasn’t a better conversation. Why wouldn’t she want some privacy after publicly sitting on the face of a boy whose name she didn’t know? And in these bottoms too, that could pass for underwear?

The bag of ice clattered to the ground, bringing Izumi’s attention to the boy she’d injured. He must have been in pain applying the ice and winced hard enough to drop the bag.

“Here let me.” She said, closing the distance and swiping the bag off the floor, applying it gently to his ankle. She began to slowly press on the wound.

They stayed like that for a while, simply absorbing each other's presence as she tended to him.

“Sorry.” He apologized abruptly. “I know I’m not much for conversation. Mimi always says is that why I don’t have a girlfriend.”

“I don’t mind,” Izumi said. She wasn’t lying, while she didn’t hate catching up, it was nice to sometimes just sit with someone and enjoy yourselves. It was almost certainly why most of her friends were boys. Speaking of friends:

“Do you mean Mimi Tachikawa? You’re friends with her?” it was hard for her to picture two more different people in her life than the rambunctious cheerleader and this subdued nerd.

Well, she could. He didn’t dress to show it off, but this boy wasn’t as ugly as Mimi’s opposite ought to be.

“I know it seems weird, but we make it work.” He said. “Once you’re friends with Mimi, she doesn’t let you go. It can be exhausting, but it’s good to have someone who forces you into things, you know?”

“I guess.” She said. She wasn’t sure she had anyone like that, maybe Takuya, but for the rest it was her forcing them if anything. Which left no one to force her to join a club or go out when she was down.

He winced again, and she temporarily removed the ice. “Sorry, about everything.”

“Don’t be. It was Takeru’s fault. He gets overly excited when he sees a cute girl and as you may have guessed, doesn’t play fair. At least now he owes me.”

“You know him too?”

The boy waved his hand. “It’s complicated.”

The conversation lulled for a second. Izumi couldn’t help but lower her voice. “… you think I’m cute?”

Somehow the boy managed to choke on air. Which only made Izumi want to press harder. “oh my, are you even injured? Maybe you just wanted an excuse to have a cute girl fawn over you.”

“wha no- I. I….”

Izumi erupted in laughter. For someone who supposedly spent time with Mimi, this was too easy.

“Yes!”

She blinked. “What?”

“Yes, I think you’re cute, ok?”

His face was red, his breathing heavy. She’d never expected him to be so blunt. “Uhh, thanks?”

It hadn’t been said to make a pass on her, more of a statement of fact. He thought she was cute. He’d only said it because she’d been teasing him, and had somehow been putting up with him after she’d humiliated and injured him. But for some reason, the admission had caused her heart to beat faster.

Sure, he wasn’t what she thought she was looking for in a boy. He wasn’t athletic, his looks were questionable, but would be much better if someone taught him how to dress better. And he was supposedly friends with Mimi, so he couldn’t be that introverted. Plus he had a job.

It was crazy. But her day was already crazy. “Well then, if I’m cute, do you want to kiss me?”

The blush on his face deepened. “I, well, yes but.”

She let out a performative gasp. “Normally I would slap a boy for trying to kiss me.”

“I’m sorry, I-uh.”

She placed a finger to his lips, moving to straddle him. “but I slapped you earlier for no good reason, so I guess that means you get one for free, huh.”

She closed her eyes and hovered in front of him. She waited there in silence for a few beats, heartbeat pounding in her ear. Putting herself out there to be rejected by anyone made her nervous, but she knew this boy would not make the first move unless she goaded him into it.

Then, when she was almost about to pull back, she felt a pair of lips place a hesitant, chase kiss upon her own, lingering for a few seconds before withdrawing.

It wouldn’t make the top ten hottest kisses of the school year, but it still set something off in her. “Did you enjoy that?”

“I did.” He gasped, blinking very quickly.

“Then we should do it again.” This time she attacked him, peppering the stunned boy with a rapid barrage of pecks on his lips, cheeks, and neck.

“Wa-wait.” He said.

She stopped immediately, worried she might have gone too far. “what’s wrong?” she asked, heart still thundering in her ears.

“Izumi.” He said.

“Yes?” she asked.

“My name,” he explained causing her eyes to go wide. “You said you didn’t know it.”

“Your name is Izumi too?”

“No, I mean yes, I mean.” He took a deep breath. “Koushiro Izumi.”

She rolled her eyes. Who would start with their last name in a situation like this? He gave her a heart attack for nothing. “Izumi Orimoto.”

They stared at each other for a solid minute.

“Does…does that make you wanna stop?” Koushiro asked, the quiver in his voice betraying both hope and fear.

She thought about it for a second. If they got married, that would make her Izumi Izumi.

But then, they were in high school, this probably wouldn’t even last a year.

She bent her face back to his lips in answer.

since I've rambled quite a bit on zoro's side of things in some of my zolu posts, I wanted to give luffy a try too! though perhaps overall subtler than zoro's grand gestures throughout the manga, there's no doubt to me that luffy cares for him just as much and his relationship with zoro is one of the most important he has (without intending to downplay others btw), both as individuals and crew, so let's goooo.

(warning: it's going to be long. sorry. also spoilers for the manga, as usual.)

albeit luffy and zoro's journey as a crew starts in the marine base where they met, I've mentioned here before that their childhood experiences, the way they sort of parallel each other's, also play a big role in their personalities and understanding of one another later on. the specifics are different, sure, but both were acquainted with struggle since they were young. zoro had already lost his parents by the time he was 8 and dragon left a baby luffy in garp's care, which... involved some questionable (dangerous) caretaking choices in order to make luffy "stronger". eventually, zoro would become a student in the isshin dojo, interact with koushiro and kozaburo, and start his rivalry/friendship with kuina just like luffy would later meet folks like makino, shanks and his crew whom he'd be inspired by, then dadan, ace and sabo, who'd become his family.

although we don't know yet what luffy's particular dream is, it's one he's had since young and that he mentioned to his brothers. similarly, as a kid, zoro wanted to become the world's greatest swordsman too, which he told kuina about and promised to strive for along with her. still, it's not until they lose sabo and kuina respectively that their dreams are accompanied by the necessity to become stronger for other people's sake. this is a specific sort of grief they share and are motivated by. and in luffy's case, his vow to become stronger is so he can prevent the further loss of those he loves.

(I'll get back to this, because it's important!)

fastforward to years later and we have a luffy that's started his journey to become the pirate king and achieve his dream. the insane thing about zoro's recruitment is that it only took hearing about the guy's name and fearsome reputation to have luffy pester koby about meeting him. I've also mentioned here that "fate" seems to be a recurring theme in OP especially in the latest arcs, and especially where luffy and zoro are concerned, seeing as they not only have a bunch of parallels with each other but also with important figures/characters in OP, some of who share or have shared a close relationship among themselves as well - namely, roger and rayleigh.

heck, luffy and zoro's lives are so intertwined you can even see lil zoro training during the ASL flashback chapters, when dragon mentions the dojo providing the revolutionaries with some food (ch 589). it's kinda incredible tbh. even so, when it comes to zoro... he was first and foremost a choice. regardless of how fate has come into play in the story, it was luffy's decision to actively seek him out and rope him into joining his crew, one he made after realizing zoro wasn't just a good guy but that he also had a cool, crazy dream and a determination to make it come true that was similar to luffy's own.

back then, luffy was already punching others (helmeppo) and getting angry on zoro's behalf, taking bullets for him and leaving himself wide open for zoro to protect during their confrontation with morgan. this is pretty much the beginning of his unwavering trust in zoro's strength and his willingness to step in when luffy needs someone to watch over him in turn. this is what their relationship is based on within? hours? of meeting and it's the foundation of the straw hat crew.

he's praising zoro before he's actually taken morgan down and luffy doesn't even look back to check. the amount of trust luffy's placing on zoro off the bat is bonkers and it's literally just the start.

from shells town onwards - well, in spite of how luffy's considered an anchor by shanks in the first chapters of OP because of his inability to swim, I believe the anchor metaphor is actually kinda perfect to describe zoro and his relationship with luffy, more so from luffy's side, even if he doesn't necessarily say this stuff on the pages.

I may be going on a slightly poetic tangent but it works imo. anchor symbolism is pretty popular and you can find all sorts of articles about it online. I read a few out of curiosity and y'know, the anchor as a nautical symbol has supposedly been regarded as one rooted in feelings such as those of stability and safety. you can probably tell where I'm going with this.

in terms of stability, think of OP's arcs and how many of them zoro's been in alongside luffy. they don't always fight side by side strictly speaking, but zoro is a constant - he's usually there to fight the second strongest threat and sometimes protect or lead the others when luffy's otherwise occupied, or he handles things while luffy gets there/recuperates enough to battle again. for the most part, zoro's also there in a bunch of the crewmate-rescuing arcs and he's even the one to directly liberate brook's shadow in thriller bark. there's only two major instances in which luffy and zoro (+ the crew) get separated for a considerable amount of time, one of them unwillingly and the other by choice: sabaody and zou/whole cake island. ig you could count baratie/arlong park too, but I don't think as much time passed in between one and the other compared to zou/WCI and the reunion in wano.

something that really got me even though it was tinted by a comedic feel, is the fact that bon-chan turned into zoro out of all straw hats back at impel down when luffy was trying to rescue ace and how happy he was at the prospect of having zoro there to aid him. no matter how the adaptation differs from the manga, I couldn't help but think of opla luffy's I need you speech too. would he have been as happy to see any other members of the crew? likely so! still, zoro's definitely someone luffy particularly looks forward to having by his side when things get tough.

irl, anchors are generally used to secure a vessel and prevent it from drifting. sounds a little familiar, I'd say.

it's not as though zoro's the only character in OP who's "guided" luffy but there are moments when he does ground his captain in a manner other characters can't at the time, and my favorite part of it is how seriously luffy takes zoro's words/advice whenever it happens. water 7 and enies lobby are perhaps the best examples of this, as it comes up in the context of luffy's fight with usopp and robin's supposed betrayal.

this is a really, really good moment imo. once luffy slows down to consider what zoro's saying, you can see he understands the importance of it. plus, luffy knows zoro's not someone who'd just leave a friend behind (he's fought to bring some of them back at this point, with luffy and the rest of the crew) and if anything, his "so the fact that he left our crew means nothing to you?!" outburst proves he's as upset as all of them about usopp's choice.

that said, you can tell how much luffy values and respect zoro's imput simply by the way he cries his soul out when usopp finally apologizes and asks to come back. luffy wears his heart on his sleeve and adores his friends, doesn't want to lose them ever, so reining all those feelings in to stay true to his position as the captain that zoro has placed his faith and loyalty in? amazing. and consider it from another angle: if he had ignored zoro, luffy would've lost him too. he certainly doesn't want that either or this would've gone differently.

this kinda thing happens also post timeskip, with zoro reminding luffy to get his shit together at punk hazard, bringing up the fact that they can't just ignore the threat kaido poses in zou to have the entire crew going after sanji, or when they're facing kaido and big mom in wano. zoro's someone luffy counts on to keep him steady and afloat, and this part of their relationship is something that was portrayed (again) nicely in the live action. in ep 6, it's zoro who manages to reassure luffy of his position as the captain and that he's done nothing wrong, that their crew isn't falling apart, because if luffy needs him then zoro vows to stand by his side til the very end. (they're insane).

in addition, their core similarities, understanding of each other and luffy's (almost unbelievable) faith/trust in zoro is what allows him to depend on zoro, specifically, when it comes to things like saving smoker in alabasta, not fighting back against bellamy's crew on jaya, or just mentioning the spilled oshiruko as explanation enough for zoro to get why luffy's angry during the onigashima raid, to name a few of examples off the top of my head.

as for the safety aspect of the anchor symbolism... that one speaks for itself I think. I feel like I must mention once more that zoro's not the only character or even the only straw hat to help or protect luffy, but he's fairly insistent and consistent in this aspect compared to others. compiling all the moments in which zoro's stepped in to protect luffy, worried about his well-being or signaled the rest when luffy's truly in danger/has reached his limits would probably break this site's image upload limit lol.

that said, luffy's the same back at zoro just in a bit of a less common manner or in a different way rather - mostly because of his belief in zoro's strength and the lengths he'd go to keep people safe, which includes allies and more so their friends. one could argue depositing that kind of faith in zoro can have its drawbacks (sabaody) or isn't completely fair (like when he goes all, "with you here, how could this happen?!" in skypiea) BUT. my opinion is that trusting zoro any less than that would likely hurt his pride more. so when luffy says stuff like this,

it's not about having unrealistic expectations wrt zoro but more about fully trusting in the man who tearfully swore to him that he'd become the greatest swordsman and never lose again. the one who trusts luffy just as much in turn, called him captain and pirate king first. luffy's seen zoro pull through some impossible situations, so it'd be more unfair to doubt him this way if you ask me.

this is also why I mentioned luffy's childhood vow. if you ever wonder "how important is zoro to luffy?" compare this,

to this:

luffy's past is revealed hundreds of chapters after skypiea. yet in hindsight, it adds so many layers to his relationship with zoro. for someone like luffy, who promised to become strong so that the people he loves wouldn't have to leave him, who would even die as long as it means he won't lose a member of his crew, the fact that he can relax this much when he gets separated from his friends because zoro's with them is... a lot, man. when you remember luffy's lost people close to him or had them leave him (for very understandable reasons, often out of everyone's control), zoro being one of the most stable presences in his life since they met - someone who will help him fight to get their friends back or stay behind to watch over them when they can't all go together, that for zoro to leave he'd have to be pried by force from his side unless they both agree to it for the sake of their journey and crewmates, is likely to be a very comforting fact to luffy. luffy, who's afraid of/hates being alone more than getting hurt.

he doesn't voice it out but allowing zoro to protect him and the people they both care for is giant sign of love and unbeatable trust, where luffy's concerned. although he doesn't know about it, zoro's sacrifice in thriller bark demonstrated why luffy does this without hesitation too. however, it's worth noting that luffy does worry for zoro's own safety whenever he's there to actually witness him being in danger and he knows zoro well enough to tell when said danger is real. it happens during the mihawk duel, when kizaru almost kills zoro in sabaody then as kuma sends him away, for example. he gets angry, desperate and teary in all of these instances. luffy cares so much about him.

lastly yet just as relevant... is that luffy likes zoro, beyond metaphors and all zoro might represent/stand for in the crew. luffy thinks he's cool, that he'll certainly achieve his dream, enjoys teasing and bullying him harmlessly, offered to share his food with him to convince zoro into accompanying them in thriller bark, tried to give an injured zoro an entire barrel of alcohol because luffy knows he loves booze and thought it'd make him feel better, and is generally someone luffy's happy to be with.

I bring up the wano hug a lot but honestly it doesn't get clearer than this. I've seen people try to downplay this moment but hey, context. people that luffy's hugged this way include 1) sabo, the brother luffy believed had been dead for years, 2) hancock who helped him try and rescue ace and 3) jimbei who's helped luffy during some of the most dire moments he's gone through, like impel down, marineford and WCI. for luffy to straight up hug zoro with just as much happiness, eagerness and enthusiasm in a relatively danger-free situation... he likes zoro, there's no better way to put it.

it's not that they can't butt heads sometimes either, but never seriously enough to damage their relationship. as a more recent example, luffy's shown he can put his stubbornness and recklessness aside when zoro's right even if he doesn't like it (ch 1060, about vivi's current situation). and as long as he's there, luffy won't let people interfere in zoro's fights, much less when it involves zoro's dream - like when he held johnny and yosaku back from stepping into zoro's duel with mihawk, even though luffy himself was worried about zoro.

so yeah, zoro might get to be crazier about luffy more often and explicitly but imo, it's an entirely reciprocal thing.

New Fanfic Launch!!!!

Infinite Possibilities

Here is the summary of my new fic :D

Infinite Possibilities will have three phases. The first stars Eimi, the second stars Koushiro, and the third stars Hikari. I commissioned the cover to look like a character select menu; each phase will have its own cover art with the lead front and center.

This story explores the realities, issues, and politics of digimon existing on earth, a concept I’ve been obsessed with for years. It opens about a year and some change before Kizuna, and the events of that film will be covered, too- not so much the film itself as what comes after.

There are couples in this fic, but it isn’t a romance. The one worth mentioning is Izumi Koushiro x Anami Eimi, as we do see them get closer and date, although that’s never the point or focus of the story. There might be passing mentions of the two canon couples (Yamato x Sora and Ken x Miyako), and of other Chosen going on nonspecified dates, etc.

I’ve been planning this fic since 2020, and I think it’s ambitious and jam packed with interesting ideas! How the world looks when digimon and humans come together is so interesting to me, and I’m so happy to share my ideas with you. Thanks for being here!

Comparing the Adventure Kids with the Survive Kids (Part 1)

(Aka, yet another shmuck making comparisons to Adventure because I’m unoriginal)

Everyone pretty much knows what the parallels are by now, so I’m making this post just to jot down similarities and differences that I find interesting between them. This isn’t to say these characters are all the same or that the Survive cast are supposed to be seen as reflections or copies of the Adventure cast -- this is just for fun :)

I’ve read some beautiful and in-depth analyses of Aoi, Shuuji, Saki, and their Adventure counterparts, as well as how Ryo might factor into the group. I don’t think I can do it any better, so their sections will mostly just consist of regurgitating info that’s already been written by people who already did all the work. Please read those posts by @shihalyfie and @digisurvive (as well as their other posts) if you haven’t already! They’re linked above!!

Before we start, let’s talk about the main contrast overarching all the characters:

Adventure kids were chosen for their heroism to save the world Vs. Survive kids are normal kids chosen to be sacrifices

Before we go into the character pairs themselves, I wanted to talk about this contrast first bc I love it

I LOVEEE seeing all the posts that theorize which Survive kid would have which crest, but I also notice that, with the exception of maybe 1-2 characters, not everyone agrees on who should get each crest

I’m sure the Adventure kids also have moments that embody the crests other than their own (can’t remember any off the top off my head), but I actually like this ambiguity(?) because it shows the difference between why/how the Adventure kids were chosen vs. why/how the Survive kids were chosen

Basically, the Adventure kids were chosen specifically because they had traits that would help them cooperate and fight for good (to save the world even!)

You can see this through their general selflessness and bravery even from Episode 1!

Despite being stranded in a strange world, and then attacked and backed against a cliff by a giant beetle monster, ALL of them are against their new diggle babies risking their lives to protect them and even try to hold them back

Takuma had a similar moment when he first meets Koromon, but none of the other Survive kids do

And that’s because the Survive kids are just normal kids; they're not meant to be heroes, they weren’t “chosen” for a grand purpose -- they were chosen randomly to be sacrificed by a crazy godlike being out of anger and hatred

Because of this, the characters can end up losing their sanity and becoming the worst they can be, or they can somehow fight through all that and come out as incredible people

One of the first things that stood out to me when trying to find The Trope for each of the pairs is how most of them don’t really embody the trope I chose that much. Some of them might not even embody them at all (such as Kaito not being a “rival” in the traditional sense, if any; or Shuuji not being much of a “team dad,” at least not at first) and some might not really be the first trope people think of when they see that character (Koushiro as “the smart guy” vs. “the lancer”).

But I think Takuma and Taichi both embody “The Leader” pretty well, albeit in very different ways. Shihalyfie talks about it best regarding Taichi here and here. Here are some of the similarities and differences I found interesting:

Both are decisive/make good decisions under stress

As the designated “gogglehead protagonist” this is pretty much a given lol

Taichi has always been good at leading the group forward and making (mostly) good decisions while the rest of the group might be too scared, tired, or shocked about their current circumstances to think about moving on

By contrast, Takuma is good at remaining calm under pressure (biggest example is when the school is targeted by Dokugumon, and everyone’s freaking out except for him)

This is especially notable given how early on in the game it is

But his decision-making mainly lies in hearing out what the group believes (as the Survive kids are noticeably more assertive and decisive about how to handle their situation than the Adventure kids) and choosing to best among those options

Basically, Taichi tends to make decisions on his own accord, whereas Takuma (at least at first) usually waits until he’s called upon/becomes the deciding voice before he chooses

That probably has more to do with the group dynamic (Adventure kids were more passive/cooperative vs. Survive kids were more decisive and emotional)

Both help keep the group together

One of the most important aspects of being a leader is being able to keep the group together

It’s part of why Shuuji kept failing; he often disagreed with the group’s majority decisions, and his hostile behavior would push them away

Taichi keeps the group together in a literal sense -- look how quickly they fall apart when he goes back to the real world

The only exception to this is Yamato in the Pinocchimon arc, but that’s mainly because of Yamato’s own issues that he’s been dealing with from the start

By contrast, Takuma is very aware of everyone’s emotional states and keeps the group cooperative and on the same page, but the group doesn’t automatically separate after he’s gone

It’s mostly because they can’t go anywhere because of the fog, but I still feel like they would’ve stayed together if given the choice

I think another interesting contrast is that Taichi considers everyone’s skills and knows how to delegate tasks, whereas Takuma considers everyone’s thoughts and hears out every opinion before making a decision himself

Both have Agumon as their partner

This is kind of hard to explore deeply (at least for me), because the main reason behind Takuma getting Agumon was because Agumon was the most popular choice

More specifically, Habu says that he was the digimon “a wide range of fans will easily accept”

You could say Takuma was meant to be similar -- he’s the type of person who can get along with a wide range of people, both accepting and being accepted by them

Taichi’s Agumon is similarly hard to talk about because he doesn’t really have much of a personality on his own outside of Taichi (but maybe I’m just not getting the cues)

I’ve found a couple of posts about Taichi and Agumon’s partnership here and here, but they don’t say much about Agumon himself other than the fact that he’s often on the same wavelength as Taichi

The best I can glean from this is that Agumon is just a very straightforward digimon; simple, genuine, and not having to be read too deeply to be understood

I suppose you could say it’s the same for Takuma and Taichi, both of whom are fairly straightforward people who don’t really hide how they’re actually feeling

Both are introspective and will reflect when they’ve done something wrong

Takuma’s introspection is very clear (he considers multiple different options before responding to people or making a choice; he’s slow to action early in the game because he’s thinking so much; if someone disagrees with him, he considers their perspective and wonders if he's in the wrong)

Taichi’s is not as prominent in comparison, but he thinks and considers a lot throughout the series

The most notable (to me) is how after every major argument with Yamato, he’ll stop and question whether he’s the one being wrong or if he really is being insensitive vs. practical

When he’s out of his element, he’ll also acquiesce to anyone who knows more (usually Koushiro)

Taichi’s introspection actually surprised me when I watched Adventure for the first time in Japanese (I watched the dub as a kid, but barely remember anything about it)

Taichi tries to power forward on his own without consulting other options Vs. Takuma will hear everyone out and tries to respect everyone’s feelings before deciding

Taichi’s insistence to keep moving has to do with his abundant energy (aka his physical ability to keep going for a long time) as well as a practical need to do what they need to before the enemies can win

Although he can be impulsive and brash, his main focus when barreling forward is practicality -- if they don’t hurry, the enemies might win and they’ll destroy the world

If people are feeling hurt or sad in the process, that’s unfortunate, but the enemies won’t stop just to let them grieve, so they have to keep going

By contrast, Takuma, as stated multiple times above, always respects and considers other people’s emotions (well… unless you choose the dialogue options that don’t)

Takuma himself is a sensitive and emotional person, so he’s also shared the group’s emotional states when things got especially bad (ex. Ryo’s death), but he’s pushing himself because the group needs him

Even when he advises the kids to put their feelings on the back burner, it’s always with empathy, rather than just sheer practicality

Aoi and Sora will be next!

In 2022, Taikouvember had been announced on short notice, leading to not many people knowing about the event. And even if several people were participating, causing a nice little atmosphere, we wanted to make sure that this year would be even more enjoyable for everyone involved. And we believe this has worked out wonderfully!

Thus we wanted to thank everyone who took the time to draw, write, make edits, compile posts and so on and so on. We know lives are busy and yet, you all did your best to contribute and that is worth all the praise in the world. Our favourite ship might not be the most popular one out there, but we are proud to have a small community dedicated to showing their love for it. And it doesn't matter what you did, how much or how little you did, if you could finish it in time or just handed in drafts: It's all wonderful.

Headcannon: Dididestined work/jobs

Taichi- I've thought about his the least tbh but I feel like him becoming a diplomat both does and doesn't fit him (leave suggestions ig since these are used for my fanfic)

Yamato- I actually like the idea of him becoming an astruanot but I feel like he would still have a side career as a musician

Koushiro- programmer (it's just them)

Sora- I like the idea of her going into the clothing industry (I do get why others don't) but I feel like she would be a more modern fashion designer, that makes practical clothing that still looks good (big advocate for women pockets!)

Mimi- love the idea that she is either a ceo of co-ceo of a company, that or a marketing expert/consultant

Jyou- Doctor but later down the line (like after a good decade give or take) opens up a few animal clinic (as he does medical aid in the digiworld, but that's for another hc list)

Hikari- elementary teacher (starts out teaching the younger classes but eventually starts to teach the older ones) definitely has a YouTube channel that they started when they were in middleschool/junior high (still posts on their off days)

Takeru- Author and part-time porfeser for a college near where he lives (teaches in the writing field obv.)

Daisuke- Works at a ramen shop in Japan but has a monthly one week ramen vendor in the US that he uses the money for charity (Def. hangs out with Mimi durring that week in the US)

Iori- I like the idea of him being a Lawyer/attorney I think it really shows his character development and also let's him work for justice in a way that honors his father but also in a way that works for him since Iori can fight and could be a police officer but he isn't inclined to fighting and prefers to understand the inner situations, which in my opinion makes him a good person to be a lawyer

Miyako- Translator. I LOVE her want to go to different places and I LOVE the idea that she knows multiple languages. To me being a professional translator just fits her, she also def. studies the culture of the places she visits bc she tries to be fully respectful of the people's way of life no matter where she's visiting, I also think she'd be an assistant to Koushiro whenever she's taking a break from work in Japan.

Ken- I kinda like the idea of him being a detective, it allows him to use his own deductive reasoning and the idea of him and Iori working close together is just so amazing (check out a fanfic that is like a Phoenix Wright au of them on ao3, I'll link it later)

I'm curious does anyone have any other ideas for these guys (especially Tai I need ideas for him) I'd love to write oneshots of these guys getting frustrated with work and having to seek out help from their friends inorder to take their mind off the problem (and go back fresh) or get help solving the problem. Mostly bc I'm a suckered for stories that show childhood friends that have so much going on in their lives that they don't have time for other things but bc they are real friends they still make the time to hang out and meet up w/ eachother despite how hard it is to do.

My Commentary: This small but significant sequence takes place not long after Koushiro is revealed to be a canon Adoptee. Mrs. Izumi is fully aware that Koushiro has accepted Mrs. Izumi (+Izumis both) as Koushiro's true parent{s}, however, we are not given indication that the other supporting characters were actually told about 'the secret' of Koushiro's. Shin's surprise, in that regard, can hardly be held too much against Shin - which Mrs. Izumi eventually quickly recognizes, dropping the argument and frustration - Shin was likely completely unaware how strongly Mrs. Izumi felt during these moments, while Mrs. Izumi was likely running on pure adrenaline responding!

Mrs. Izumi, in the original version, is also using a neutrally polite speech pattern that is overall appropriate when speaking to children; Koushiro, in the original, is also known for speaking throughout the entire series with a formal and polite pattern that is "unusual" for Koushiro's age, while it's more "typical" for Mrs. Izumi to use similar in this sequence.

Shin Kido, Jou's 2nd eldest sibling closer in age, the 2nd born of the three Kidos, is the sibling who appears throughout Adventure Episodes 35~39 and later Adventure-specific episodes (such as flashback sequence in Dark Masters arc) specifically. In the 2nd sequel series, "02", Jou's oldest sibling, Shuu, was introduced. The U. S. dub combined "Shin" and "Shuu" into "Jim", a singular character, but they were actually two separate siblings! (Thus, Jou is speaking to Shin as if Shin is the younger of the two siblings, addressing Shin commonly with a 'casual' "Nii-san", though in this scene, Jou sounds surprisingly more 'assured' and perhaps a slight bit 'full of' self, but is quickly grounded by Sora and Mimi not long after.)

Rouge - Taikoura one-shot for Shades of Red

A/N: Shades of Red is a very precious little story I wrote for digiweek 2021 about Taichi falling for not only Sora, but for Koushiro as well. A story about the wonders of polyamorous relationships and that it takes self-knowledge to take that one courageous step towards a life full of love. So have a new shade of red <3

Based on a little Taiora-scenario I wrote in early 2021 which @seventeenlovesthree made sure to provide with beautiful art which I'm still so in love with :3 You can find it here: [x].

Day 8: Rogue or Blush | Characters: Koushiro Izumi (POV) x Sora Takenouchi x Taichi Yagami | Genre: Romance, some sort of hurt/comfort | Rating: T | Wordcount: 1.293

A yawn escaped him as he stretched his slender frame, the office chair rolling slightly to the back. Koushiro was still up, the different monitors on his desk lined up and on. After much complaining from Sora, who was according to him unnecessarily way too worried about his health, he had installed a filter on the screens. That way he could protect his eyes, but still work during night time.

It wasn’t that he couldn’t work in the day time, no, he had grown fond of working with both Taichi and Sora around. However, they had the tendency to distract them and so, being the night owl of the three, he decided to catch up on work during the night. Koushiro liked the quiet, the only sound interfering his endless thoughts the sound of keys clicking.

Time had already gone way past midnight when the sound of his fingers flying over the keyboard was interrupted with bare feet entering their shared office. Koushiro peeked over his computer screens, his eyes picking up on red-colored messy sleep hair, his nose smelling Taichi’s perfume she was bringing with her into the room.

“Sora-san, shouldn’t you be asleep?”

His fingers left the keys as he decided to check up on her. He watched her closely and concluded she looked stress. It wasn’t a surprise with the big deadline that was luring from behind a bush called Friday. Koushiro remembered all of her speedy talking which wasn’t very Sora-like, her calm demeanor sliding off.

“I couldn’t,” Sora answered sounding sleepy yet stressed. “Tomorrow’s the first draft for the collection and it feels like I missed a few details. I have to check it.”

Not for one second did she look at him. As if pulled to her drawing table, she walked towards it, her right hand frantically searching for the right pencil underneath the pile of designs. To Koushiro they were all equally wonderful and knowing Sora, he knew she didn’t miss any details. He also knew she was stubborn, perhaps even more so than Taichi, and so he didn’t ask further. Instead he kept a close eye on her while he kept working, thinking it would only be a few minutes before she would return to bed.

But a few minutes turned into over half an hour and Koushiro grew worried. Without saying anything, he stood up to grab the both of them some tea.

“Thanks.” Was all Sora said as he carefully placed the cup on the only empty spot on her drawing table. Her eyes were wide, completely focused on her work. Koushiro looked over all the colors and lines dancing on the papers forming beautiful designs for modernized kimonos.

“I truly admire your skills and ambition, Sora-san. The designs look unquestionably stunning, I’m convinced that they’re enough for a first draft. I’d like to escort you to bed so you can sleep some more.”

“Tell that to yourself, you always stay up late,” Sora snapped back, but immediately realized how mean that was. She finally looked at him. “Sorry, I didn’t mean it like that.”

“I’m aware. You must be tired, hence why I wanted to bring you back to bed,” Koushiro explained calmly.

Sora smiled in return, her tiredness didn’t allow her to keep her lips curled up for too long. “And I appreciate your worry over me. But I just can’t sleep yet.”

Koushiro nodded in response. She gave off a tired look, the determination however made her glow all the same.

A little bit defeated, Koushiro headed back to his seat behind his desk. He sighed before his fingers went back to the keyboard, then started typing once more, the room filled with the tapping sound again. Per usual, it made him loose track of time.

Eventually from the corner of his eye Koushiro could see Taichi’s sleeping body dragging himself into the office. The brown haired man rubbed his eyes and a yawn escaped him as he placed himself next to Koushiro, looking over the computer screens in Sora’s direction. A worried expression emerged on his face and Koushiro looked up to Taichi.

“How long has she been up an working?” Taichi asked with a hoarse sleepy tone followed by another yawn.

Koushiro checked the time.

“It could easily be over an hour now.”

Taichi sighed. It was all he needed to know. He kept standing there, watching her work, worried yet the fondness in his eyes easily outdid the worry.

Even though Koushiro was well aware of Taichi’s adoration and admiration for both him and Sora, he could never get enough of Taichi staring so intensely to especially Sora. It was something he could observe day in and out, it would never grow old.

“What?” Came Sora’s voice. Clearly she had been taking notice of Taichi’s staring. It made Koushiro snap out of his thoughts, however, Taichi only intensified the eye contact he now had with her. “Do I have something on my face?”

“No.” He replied. The features in Taichi’s face changed from intensity to softness accompanied by a cheeky grin.

“Then what is it?” Sora asked, the annoyance in her voice returning.

In a way, even though Taichi meant it well, these little exchanges of words between his two partners made Koushiro feel uncomfortable. Simply because it could go two ways. They would either start bickering, or…

“I just think you’re beautiful.”

Or they would jump each other in a more sexually physical way.

Yes, Koushiro loved them both very much, but their intensity could sometimes be a tad too much. Making him blush in frustration or ecstasy. Often it was both though.

He looked from Taichi to Sora and back in anticipation. Because with Sora being stressed and tired, you could never predict how exactly she would respond.

Koushiro had not expected the cherry red blush on her cheeks radiating warmth and surprise.

“Go back to bed, Taichi,” she stumbled, failing to hide how that one compliment had gotten to her.

“Well, you’ve heard the boss,” Taichi said to Koushiro, taking Sora’s words as his cue to go. “Can you tell her I’d like to see her back in bed soon? And you too by the way.”

Taichi winked and gave Koushiro a sweet small peck on the top of his head before he turned his heel to return back to bed. Alone.

Or so Taichi thought.

Right before he would have left the office, Taichi was stopped by Sora hugging him from behind. Her graceful arms embraced his athletic body, her one hand just able to hold the wrist from her other hand. She pressed her head to Taichi’s back and rubbed her nose into the fabric of Taichi’s sleep shirt, a genuine smile happily dancing on her lips before she spoke.

“Thank you, I needed that.”

Koushiro looked at the both of them, standing in the door way exchanging love in a to him beautiful way. It was tender and fragile, grand in its simplicity.

Where Sora’s blush turned into a warm and grateful pinkish one, Taichi showed a knowing one. Accepting the love he felt for her. For them. And all Koushiro could do was take in the little loving still he was treated to.

He recalled how their love wasn’t self-evident from the beginning, especially to Taichi. But the road he had followed together with Sora and Koushiro had led him to being his happy and cheesy self again.
