the breaking bad dvd episode commentaries are funny because the cast is super funny but the funniest gd thing ever said in those commentaries was when they were doing the episode where andrea and brock come by while walt is talking business with jesse and walt awkwardly interacts with brock and someone on the cast was like “oh man!! i wonder what was going through walt’s head here haha :)” and bryan cranston got super close to his mic and was like (insidious walt voice) “i wonder how much poison i can fit in that little body”

It’s the way that Lucy’s public persona and vibe is more reserved subtle smiles, and Lockwood’s is big charming grins, so while Lucy’s big grins are important and meaningful, for Lockwood it’s the opposite, his small subtle smiles hold even more meaning than his grins.
Like Lucy masks her emotions by toning them down and keeping them in (which makes sense given her home life) so when she’s really experiencing happiness and joy she full on grins because she just physically can’t contain it. But then Lockwood masks his emotions by performing, so when he holds back a smile it’s because it’s real and precious and he’s enjoying the moment just for himself and no one else and a small smile is just as, if not, more meaningful than a big grin from him.
And I think that’s so beautiful.

please note that Rosie the Riveter is American WW2 propaganda urging women to work in factories and shipyards during World War II, often to produce munitions and war supplies. and yosano akiko lived just long enough to see the first American air raid on japan.
(for reference, later in the war, a single American air raid would destroy 42% of the city of Yokohama, killing an estimated 7,000-8,000 people, mostly civilians. in total, American air raids on japan killed hundreds of thousands of civilians and rendered many more wounded or homeless. )
i also think it's important to acknowledge that in the last ten years of her life, yosano akiko became more militaristic and nationalistic despite decades of pacificism; she praised japanese imperialism and supported war with China, the US, and the UK. it's dark and ugly and discordant with her taisho anti-war poetry, but nevertheless, it's a part of her legacy.
bsd is fictional work, but it's steeped in and draws inspiration from multiple world wars and eras marked by militarism, nationalism, and imperialism. some stuff is going to be more obscure depending on your cultural context, but for prolific and well documented material like war propaganda, it's worth engaging with mindfully and with intention.

We cut to Cory in one of the ride's logs. He's slowly getting up, complaining my back. Every disc outta whack. Shawn appears in the log right behind him. Exclaiming best night's sleep I've ever had. So great. -Danielle
Very funny. -Will
This is a great scene. See, this is like..I feel like this should have been more of what this episode is about. It's like hijinks on rides in Disney World. Stuff going on. Good conversations. We're actually just talking about our character based stuff. I don't know. This felt great. This and then running around and getting help from the characters felt like, ah, we're taking advantage of what this episode should be. -Rider
Did you shoot this before the ride opened for the day? -Danielle
Yeah. It was like super early like we had to wake up at like three or four in the morning to get there. And then, yeah, and then we shot and they, they 'cause we, they wanted to open the ride up. -Rider
So was it cold? -Danielle
Freezing. Exhausted. -Rider
And you had to go seven times? -Will
Yeah. At least I, yeah. For some reason I have the number seven in my head. But Ben and I got so sick of the song. -Rider
Couldn't they shut the music off? -Danielle
♪How do you do, how do you do, do do, how do you do?♪ And there's one part where they go ♪How do you do pretty good show us your bones♪ Sure as you're born is what they're saying but Ben and I were convinced they were saying, show us your balls. So it went ♪How do you do pretty good show us your balls♪ Over and over again. That's all we, so for years that's what we would sing to one another. ♪How do you do pretty good show us your balls♪ -Rider
I love it. -Danielle
I want that shirt. -Will
I know. Me too. -Danielle
♪How do you do pretty good show us your balls♪ I can't believe I forgot that until this I like i literally started to tell the story. I was like, because we were, I mean it was like being on acid, having to ride that ride. No one else in it. No one in other logs just us over and over again. And then they'd have to dry us off and then we wouldn't get wet enough. So then they'd have to like wet us down. -Rider
