I love it when characters heal their inner child through batshit acts of violence.

why do y'all hate my pet freak
Tumblr media
It takes proactively ignoring many of the characters' in-text comments on and actions regarding Mori to write him off as "evil" or universally antagonistic.

omg, why can't bsd fandom comprehend that mori is not necessarily evil, neither is he necessarily good, he is a morally gray character, with his flaws and all. why can't bsd fans realize that mori is liked in the text itself by many characters (chuuya, kouyou, hirotsu) and that he is a VERY GOOD BOSS. if he wasn't, other port mafia members wouldn't be worried about his well-being in cannibalism arc.

I think you may not be fully aware of much of Japan's history, including the mass erasure of Japanese imperialism and the war crimes stemming thereof or Japan's treatment of the Ainu, but I think it would behoove you to learn.
I wonder how Asagiri decides which authors become antagonists and by that I mean what was the thought process behind making Agatha Christie some WMD war crime maniac and yes I know she's British and that is unfortunately very on brand for us and 'And then there were none' has the potential to be the coolest deadliest ability ever but nothing about her as a person nor her works scream that type of antagonist to me
and this applies to all of the characters actually like I wonder how antagonist/protagonists are assigned give that the connection to the actual authors varies greatly (with Dazai being very connected whilst Fyodor has a loose connection)

the inscription on the aforementioned dazai memorial is a japanese translation of one of irl dazai's favorite lines: "j'ai l'extase et j'ai la terreur d'être choisi," from irl verlaine's sagesse. by the way.
kafka asagiri is the funniest man alive. there is a verlaine quote on an irl dazai memorial, and bsd dazai tries to kill that man dead fifteen times over.

Agatha's personality is clearly derived from Judge Wargrave, similar to Fyodor's being derived from Ivan Karamazov, and as Judge Wargrave is an antagonist, so is she.

Anyway this panel alone made me decide Shuro is actually really funny
Tumblr media
Practically everyone in this panel is ready to square up, including +200yo Grandpa Tansu, meanwhile Shuro is standing in the back dramatically holding himself while clearly wishing he was off this godforsaken hell island
