Ok, get ready for a brand new chapter of my "Ghostboy in Hisui" AU. Here I go again, fellas!
Chapter 5: The Traveling Merchant
It was a quiet night in Hisui. Allister and Akari were tasked with investigating a mysterious red glowing light in the Coronet Highlands. Warden Ingo was keeping them company. Sneasler gave Allister a friendly smile. "Could it be a ghost type Pokemon?" Akari asked Ingo. "It could be possible." The silver haired man answered.
Allister spotted the red glow. "Over there!" He said. As it turned out, it really was a ghost type Pokemon. An Alpha Gengar! This giant Pokemon reminded the little boy of his own beloved Gengar. Under his mask, Allister teared up. Akari noticed it. "Hey, it's ok." She rubbed his back gently. The ghostboy took a deep breath. "Thank you." He said quietly. He then approached the Gengar. Zorua stood protectively by her trainers side. The Alpha Gengar noticed the boy. He immediately felt drawn to the child. To Akari's relief, the Alpha Gengar was calm and even let himself to be caught by Allister.
Ingo was relieved was well. "Amazing!" He breathed. "Hey there, Akari and Warden Ingo!" Someone suddenly called. It was a blonde man. The man was looking at Allister now. "Oh! You must be the new member of the Galaxy Team! I am Volo, nice to meet you!" The man, Volo, grinned. Akari spoke up. "This is Allister. He fell from the rift in the sky, just like Ingo and I." She said. "Interesting! Do you remember anything of your world?" Volo asked the child. "Y-yes, sir." Allister said timidly. "I see, you are shy. Is that why you wear this mask?" Volo asked. Akari noticed how uncomfortable Allister felt. She spoke up for her new friend. "Yes. The mask is a security blanket for him."
"Volo is a traveling merchant from the Ginkgo Guild." Akari told Allister. "Nice to meet you, Mr. Volo." The little boy said shyly. "Oh! A Zorua! You must be very talented with Pokemon!" Volo smiled softly. Akari spoke up again. "He really is! He is an expert with ghost type Pokemon!" She said. "Very good! Allister, this is our first meeting. I have a little gift for you!" Volo gave the ghostboy a dusk stone! "F-for me?" Allister asked. Volo smiled and gave him a nod. "Thank you!" "You're welcome, little guy. I have to go now. See you all later!"
Volo was gone for now. Allister showed Misdreavius the dusk stone. "Do you want to evolve?" He asked her. She made some happy ghostly noises. For Allister's ears it sounded like "Yes! I would love to!" Allister chuckled lightly. "Ok. This stone is for you." He gave her the dusk stone. She evolved into a very happy Mismagius. Mismagius nuzzled Allister's cheek. "You're welcome, my friend!" He said with a gentle smile. It really warmed Akari and Ingo's hearts to see how gentle and loving the little boy was with his Pokemon. "We should return to Jubilife Village and report to Cyllene now." Akari said to the ghostboy. "Ok."
Cyllene was satisfied with the report. She was also very proud of Allister. The little boy had really awakened her motherly side.
Back in the present day, Bea and Emmet were in a Library. They were researching weird Time and Space anomalies. "Holy Arceus!" Emmet suddenly said. "Did you find something?" Bea asked. Emmet showed her wide eyed a book about Sinnoh's history. In the book was a very old picture. On the picture was his twin brother Ingo! And and by his side was standing a certain little boy. "Alli..." Bea couldn't believe her eyes. "They are apparently in ancient Sinnoh!" Bea said. "We finally have a clue!" She continued. "You're right, Bea!" Emmet agreed.
To be continued
This chapter is finished, friends!

👻 About Allister!
Tumblr media
“The silent boy of mystery!”
Allister is one of the Gym Leaders from the Galar Region, challenging trainers with his Ghost-type Pokémon and giving the Ghost Badge if they succeed defeating him.
Thanks to his special connection to Ghost-type Pokémon, Allister became a Gym Leader at a very young age. Together with Bea, a Fighting-type Pokémon specialist, they manage the Stadium of Stow-on-Side, a town tucked away in the mountains in the west-central part of Galar.
Despite his mysterious appearance, Allister is just a normal child that has some trouble speaking to strangers due to his shy personality. He's rarely seen without his mask and he never takes it away in public. He uses his mask to deal with his fear of being stared and judged by others, that’s why only a few selected people were able to see his true face.
He spends most of his time alone, talking to Ghost-type Pokémon in ancient ruins, abandoned places and cemeteries at night. He feels more comfortable around them than around other people. He claims to understand their feelings and wants to show everyone that, despite their bad reputation, Ghost-type Pokémon can be reliable, friendly and very loyal to their partners.
“People think I'm scary because I can see things they can't... T-that's fine... I'm more comfortable around ghost Pokémon anyways...”

celebrity- related allister hcs / what the public knows/doesn’t know
public knowledge
- allister suffered some sort of mysterious accident when he was young . it’s generally speculated/accepted that this accident contributed to allister’s behavior and the reason he wears his mask . though most of the public knows the accident occured, no one knows the details .
- he is often advertised as a prodigy, especially in the context of being the youngest gym leader the region has seen for years . the public knows that he was a force to be reckoned with even before he became a gym leader, known to defeat adult trainers with ease .
- he doesn’t have much that he really reveals to the public . in fact, his mysterious nature is a big part of his charm as a gym leader, played up when he was too scared to be in the spotlight .  even though this was the case, when rose was chairman he would often push allister to make public appearances, and add more extravagant elements to his battles . allister was often too shy to decline, but occasionally no-showed to public events out of fear .
- the public strongly believes that allister has paranormal abilities of some kind, some theorizing he’s possessed by a ghost, and some speculating he has some deep connection to the dead . though there is little evidence to any of these theories due to allister being a very private person, it is true that he has a connection to ghosts .
knowledge shared with friends
- though allister doesn’t usually go into detail, he has told most of his friends and the pokemon league that he doesn’t have a biological family .
- he doesn’t often speak of how he acquired the ability, but he usually always tells his friends that he can speak to and hear ghosts fluently . this ability applies to ghost-type pokemon and regular ghosts .
secrets
- allister lives completely on his own, he left the children’s home soon after he became a gym leader
- he keeps the details of his accident when he was four a secret, including his head injury and near-death experience

why does everyone think allistar had an accident?? not everything has to be cliche with death and abuse
Hi there anon! The reason why everyone thinks there was an accident is because of what was stated on his normal league card: “He is a young, mysterious Trainer who has taken on the mantle of Gym Leader at a very young age. He has never been known to remove his mask in public. In fact, he has at least one hundred masks of the same design, just to keep spares handy should his mask fall off for some reason. He claims to have developed the ability to see deceased Ghost-type Pokémon after an accident he had when he was four years old, but the truth is still a mystery.”
So the fact that Allister had an accident is 99% confirmed. That one percent is only for the idea that maybe he’s embellishing his “how he can see ghost stories” just for the fact that the league states the truth is still a mystery (since Phoebe of the Hoenn Elite 4 has ghost powers just from training in a spiritual area which could have happened to Allister since he likes to visit graves but that’s a far less interesting backstory in terms of creating hype for him as a gym leader where an “accident” suddenly invites far more intrigue).
Personally I think it’s highly unlikely that he’s lying and that he truly did have an accident of some sort. Allister is very shy canonically and if he did have a mundane experience with getting ghost powers he would probably be truthful about it so people wouldn’t bother him.
Now an accident doesn’t necessarily mean abuse or death. I personally don’t think he was abused. A “death but then being revived” or near-death experience I personally see as plausible given that he has ghost powers. However, given the fact that the Pokemon universe has a spirit dimension and a lot of spiritual energy around it, his accident could just been as simple as accidentally walking into the spirit dimension, getting rescued, but having ghost powers as a result.
The concept of humans having powers related to typing (aura guardians, psychics, ghost type users and fairy type users) is a very fascinating topic to discuss honestly and it would be nice to know definitively what happened to Allister.

Little Brother Allister
• Aside from his Pokémon, Allister has the biggest support from his sibling.
• They also have a love for ghost type Pokémon as well, branding them as a mysterious family. Kind of like the Addams Family in a way.
• Sibling had a hand in raising the Gengar he has, but let Allister take on most of the responsibilities so he could learn to be a good trainer.
• Was also the one who traded with him and witness Haunter evolve in Gengar. Allister was so happy that day, it’s one of his favorite memories with Sibling.
• As shy as he can be sometimes, he also reminds sibling that he can handle himself since he’s a gym leader.
• But if someone makes him upset, aside from his Pokémon, Sibling will pretty much end them.
• During his matches, sibling will also wear a mask as they watch to show him support.
• Sibling was once considered for running the gym themselves, but opted out because of how much potential they saw in Allister.
• Though it is rumored that a ghost Pokémon might’ve took the picture for his rare card. It is also suggested that it was siblings doing when they were checking on him after a match.
• It is a mystery that no one has been able to solve. Not even Sibling will say whether or not they were involved either.

Allister and Neurodivergency
Ok so this was sparked by a youtube video recommended to me that was some edgy theory "is Pokemon's Allister POSSESSED?" And regardless of their reasoning I'm gonna go into why that's actually not a good idea to do with a character like this, even if he is a ghost type trainer. Even if the creators themselves did it on purpose and left hints as a wink-wink, nudge-nudge, it's not cool of them to do that either for the same reasons it's not cool to theorize.
In case the title didn't give it away, the tl;dr is, "Allister is clearly modeled off of the "weird kids" you see in school that are actually undiagnosed neurodivergent kids, and whether he's meant to Actually be autistic or anything else or it's just some celebrity persona thing in canon, turning these mannerisms into the fuel for shock-value/creepypasta theories is ableist in that it alienates the behavior and dehumanizes it, and any person who exhibits these behaviors."
Everything I'm writing is based on what I know from seeing Allister during the battle, plus the trainer cards you get on him and the blurbs they come with (I read the wiki on the Rare League Card haha). I have no clue what the anime or manga spinoffs have or will do with him, and I don't know what the game has done with him after the first gym battle because I literally just beat him in my run, just an fyi. I will be citing everything you can find on the wiki's quotes sections, or in any screenshots of him so while I'm ok with providing proof please also understand this isn't subtle stuff.
Neurodivergent-coded behaviors we see Allister exhibit:
his ghost hands - a ghost mimicry in popular culture like vampires saying 'bleh', but also considered 'raptor hands' as an autistic behavior.
He does not throw his pokeball with one hand. Instead, he cups the pokeball in both hands and flings it in a double-handed underhand throw. This isn't a specific neurodivergent trait that I know of, but is 'odd' and does not fit the narrative of it being a persona, there's no way to link this behavior directly to ghosts or an eerie persona (it looks awkward more than anything at best.) This may be more a characterization of his youth than anything but given it's 'odd' this may be something people latch onto so I'm adding it to the list.
speech patterns imply he talks slowly, quietly and stutters: "...'M Allister." "H-here... I go..." - these are hallmark behaviors of any kid who is shy, or anxious, and also slow or quiet speech can occur in neurodivergent people in general. Plus in my experience shyness go hand-in-hand with any social awkwardness linked with being neurodivergent.
"The silent boy of mystery!" - which it's been a bit but if I recall correctly is his introduction made by Chairman Rose. This links back to his quiet speech and being nonverbal or selectively mute can also, again, be associated with many neurodivergency, chief example coming to mind being once again autism.
He's the youngest of the Gym Leaders, but also not the weakest. He's furthermore supposed to have seen ghosts at the age of four. While it's not outright stated, this strongly implies a 'child prodigy' setup - which most child geniuses or prodigies, wait for it... are often neurodivergent. They excel in one area and are recognized and praised, but often 'struggle' in the eyes of the neurotypical masses, which is usually forcibly underplayed to maintain their appeal in the eyes of the public.
The mask - This is easily where the persona concept comes in, but also canon text implies it's not exactly a persona taken on as a gimmick - if anything it comes off more as a protection mechanism. He always wears the masks in public spaces- his trainer card states he's "never been known to remove his mask in public", and he even goes so far to keep spares "should his mask fall off for some reason." He goes extra lengths to keep a mask on hand and on his face.
There is a photo of him without his mask on his Rare trainer card, in which he looks troubled. Scared. The card bio talks about him 'confronting the fears and insecurities he feels within'. If his 'public persona' is based on seeming nervous or scared, it shouldn't follow that he is actually feeling that way, if it's an act. This is a different type of persona. The Public Face that neurodivergent people have to put on every day just to avoid getting mocked and derided and treated horribly every day, for being 'off'. The mask is to protect Allister and be a 'brave face', and not an entertainment gimmick.
I'm sure there's probably more out there, but to put it simply, Allister's behavior isn't for entertainment, or he'd be less consistent overall. He would have 'off stage/on stage' behaviors that contradicted, and probably wouldn't think of things like the pokeball throw. He's pretty clearly meant to be neurodivergent in some way.
Even if he isn't, that's what his behavior/persona/whatever you want to call it is modeled off of. So taking these behaviors and using them as reasoning that he's 'possessed' or some other edgy reason is pretty nasty, because you're implying anyone who exhibits these behaviors would only do it if possessed - a concept that doesn't have good connotations mind you. It's rare people talk about "possession" in terms of benevolent or holy beings, so you know this is about displaced spirits at best, demons at worse. This is a kid we're talking about here. A kid who's definitely not meant to be neurotypical. I shouldn't have to explain why that's not great.
I will say too that while I'm not some authority on this or anything, this doesn't mean you can't come up with 'Allister being supernatural' theories at all, but you need to really think on it. Changeling or shapeshifter for example, has negative associations historically with neurodivergent kids. But something not connected to these behaviors at all, e.g. Conspiracy theory that he is actually Immortal? Go ham, personally idc.
But if you're making these vilifying or 'other'-ing headcanons because of how he acts, that's ignorant at best, and ableist at worst and propagating negative associations to neurodivergent people. Please reconsider your headcanons and theories if they're like this, I'm begging you.
-Signed, an autistic person who sees a lot of their own behaviors mirrored in Allister.

Domestic Devilry and Household Horror: Dealing with Home Hauntings
[Interior shot of a poshly dressed yet disheveled MT Hadid in an armchair. A fireplace is aglow in the background as they sip tea from a delicate-looking teacup. Over the course of the entire episode, the fire slowly dies down until nearly burning out at the very end. They appear startled that the camera is rolling and attempt to recover as smoothly as possible, quickly putting the cup down and smoothing their wrinkled clothes quickly before clearing their throat and smiling to the camera.]
Good evening. I am Dr. M. T. Hadid, and I’m here to bring you on a journey through the mysterious world of Pokémon.
[The pattern on the teacup smiles, revealing itself to be a Sinistea. Its dark handle detaches at the base, showing its tiny hand. It waves to the camera then reattaches. MT notices none of this.]
This evening, I will be taking you on a journey through strange domestic occurrences experienced by myself and many others that can only be attributed to one thing: ghost Pokémon.
[A few notes of cheesy music play, akin to something from an early B horror movie. Sinistea silently giggles.]
Have you ever heard noises in your house of someone else moving around, even though you were sure you were alone? Do you find that things go missing, but you were sure you knew where you last had them, only to find them hidden in preposterous locations? Do you experience periods of confusion, disorientation or fainting? If so, you might just live in one of the spookiest places possible: a house haunted by ghost Pokémon.
Hauntings are much more common than most people think, and to this day there are skeptics that believe these Pokémon shy away from human dwellings in favor of more wild places, but their antics tell a different story: one of domestic devilry and household horror.
[MT looks surprisedly proud of themself for this apparently spontaneous alliteration. Sinistea rolls its eyes.]
As recently as last week, an elderly neighbor came to me with concerns that a family of Duskull might have taken up residence in her house. Naturally, I was concerned for her, so I paid her a visit with my ghost Pokémon detection kit. I did a thorough search of her house and, sure enough, the signs of haunting were rampant, and they didn't point to only Duskull—I suspected the presence of Gastly, Haunter, Rotom, and Shuppet in this woman’s house.
Among numerous other things, her possessions had been strewn about the house, several of her dishes had recently been broken, and there was a near-constant high-pitched whine that followed her about the house. Fortunately, she also kept a companion Pokémon that I felt would be well-suited to helping her with her problem, so I gave the Pokémon some ghost-hunting training and put my dear neighbor at ease. I have here a photo of her and her Pokémon at the end of our visit, her nerves soothed that the problem would be resolving soon.
[MT holds up a photograph. Close-up of the image, which shows an ancient woman with a severely wrinkled face, squinted eyes, incredibly thick glasses, two large hearing aids and a heavy cane in one hand. Her other hand holds on to the hand of an energetic-looking Impidimp, which was clearly not able to hold still for the picture. The old woman’s smile looks nervous and somewhat forced. MT’s finger appears from the side of the photo, indicating the somewhat blurry space in front of the refrigerator above Impidimp’s head.]
Here, above her Pokémon’s head, you should be able to see the faint outline of the Rotom I suspect was responsible for the whining sound that persisted for the duration of my visit. It’s a little-known fact that Rotom, young Rotom especially, may occasionally squeal in excitement when possessing certain appliances.
[The photo moves out of the shot unceremoniously. Cut back to the original, full-room shot. Sinistea is once again rolling its eyes.]
If you’ll join me, I have a small collection of similar images of previous hauntings, either that I myself took, or that were given to me by friends and acquaintances over the years.
[MT picks up Sinistea, stands, and walks to their left, the camera following them. During the pan, we get an instantaneous look at MT’s doctorate hanging slightly askew on the wall. It’s only partially legible at this distance, but it’s from a highly regarded university and does seem to be relevant to Pokémon biology. They stop in front of a wall that is covered in photographs, nearly floor to ceiling. They are haphazardly arranged and, in many places, placed partially one over the other. MT sips tea from Sinistea and makes a face that indicates they are surprised by its intense bitterness. Sinistea giggles silently.]
Go ahead, take a closer look.
[MT gestures with their free hand toward the wall collage. Cut to a close-up of a cluster of blurry, washed-out, and grainy photographs. Few details are discernible, but those that are indicate that these images were taken in and around people’s homes. The camera slowly pans around the collage as MT talks, showing more of the same.]
You’ll notice some common themes in these pictures. Ghost Pokémon generally don’t like being photographed—or even looked at for more than an instant, usually—so they use their spectral nature to avoid appearing properly. The blurring and low resolution you’ll notice in many of these images are artifacts of the ghost Pokémon they contain. Some ghosts like Litwick and its evolutions, along with Rotom, have bright lights they can shine to obscure themselves and wash out any pictures taken of them. Capturing proper pictures of ghost Pokémon is an art form that it eludes most photographers.
[The camera arrives on a picture of a smiling MT next to A Sensu-Style Oricorio with several other Oricorio in all forms in the background. Cut back to a wide shot of MT standing next to the wall-sized collage.]
Now, let’s say you suspect you might have a haunting in your home. What do you do?
[MT walks back to their chair during this next bit of speech. When they arrive at the chair they will return Sinistea to its saucer.]
First off, if you’re in a new home, especially one built in the last 20 years, or you live in a house with a lot of residents, you’re likely experiencing anxiousness and mundane occurrences, not ghost Pokémon. Check in with everyone else who lives in the house, and you’ll likely find that the disturbances are well within the realm of everyday life. Once you’ve ruled that out, or if you live in a house that’s more likely to be haunted, you have a few options. Ghost-proofing is one such option, although this can often prove expensive and difficult to guarantee successful if not performed by a trained expert. A more straightforward approach would be to keep a companion Pokémon in your home, preferably a dark-type, as ghosts are weak against them.
[MT pats their lap twice.]
Here, Sammy!
[A small but spunky Alolan Rattata runs up and jumps into MT’s lap, making itself comfortable. It glares at Sinistea but stays still. MT pets Sammy then leaves their hand resting on Sammy’s back.]
If they’re available in your area, I primarily recommend either an Alolan Rattata or a Galarian Zigzagoon, as their added normal type gives them immunity to most attacks ghost Pokémon might use. Normal-types that have been bred or raised to know dark-type moves like Bite and Crunch are also a solid choice for the same reason. Sammy here has been with me for quite some time, and together, we keep our household haunt-free.
[Sinistea laughs at this. It’s still silent, but this laugh is much heartier than its earlier giggles.]
If neither ghost-proofing nor a companion Pokémon are practical options for you, there are plenty of trainers willing to send their Pokémon on Poké Jobs, as well as professional ghost-hunting trainers and Pokémon handlers who are more than willing to tackle your problem for you.
[MT pauses and ponders for a moment.]
Though, ah, not literally; ghost Pokémon are immune to Tackle, as it’s a normal move, you see.
[MT chuckles awkwardly. Sinistea nods proudly.]
Now, all of this is not to say that ghost Pokémon can’t ever be good companions for trainers. I personally am well acquainted with a number of ghost specialists, including Elite Four Agatha of Kanto, Gym Leader Fantina of Sinnoh, and Gym Leader Allister of Galar, among others. Any of them would tell you that a well-trained ghost Pokémon is a loyal and powerful companion for battles and beyond. I have no intention to disparage this type on the whole, but rather shed light on the problems they can cause if they are wild and unattended. In fact, for the more experienced Pokémon pet owners, a Sableye can be just as effective at keeping a house haunt-free as Sammy here.
[MT affectionately pets Sammy again. Sammy licks their finger, chitters happily, and then returns to its resting position. The fire has burned down to nothing but embers.]
Well, that’s about all we have time for today. I hope you found this segment informative on the nature of ghost Pokémon hauntings and what to do if you suspect that you or a loved one may be experiencing one in or around your home. If you have questions, pictures or stories about hauntings, I’d be delighted if you would share them with my viewers and me! Until next time, I’m Dr. Hadid, your guide through the mysterious world of Pokémon.
[The electric lights in the room suddenly burn out, leaving only the last embers in the fireplace visible. There’s a squeal from Sammy and an audible giggle that’s just a bit quieter.]
Dangit, why do these light bulbs burn out so fast? I’m sorry, this is really quite strange.
[Sounds of movement as a faint glow in the shape of a Rotom fades into view. It’s not a bright glow, but the shape is unmistakable to those who know it. End program.]
-- If you have a story, picture, or questions for MT and their Pokemon, feel free to write a letter to Pokemon 101 at the Poketeer! MT Hadid 4/29/20

"Ghostboy in Hisui" AU drabble ahead, my dear fellas. It takes place a few days after Allister came back from Hisui. Basically, Allister spends time in the Glimwood Tangle and Bede, who has a soft spot for him, decides to look after him. Here I go. 😊
Drabble: Bede's Softer Side
It was a quiet evening in Galar. A certain shy and kindhearted ghostboy spend some time in the Glimwood Tangle. Allister showed Giratina this mysterious yet beautiful place. To say that she was in awe would be a massive understatement!
{This is the most beautiful place I've ever seen!} Giratina spoke up. Allister, who was cuddled close to her, had a gentle smile on his adorable face. "I'm glad that you like the Glimwood Tangle." The eight years old Ghost Type Gym Leader said softly.
What Allister didn't know yet was, that Bede was looking for him. The Fairy Type Gym Leader was concerned about him. Bede had a super soft spot for Allister, whom he loved like a little brother. 'Please, let him be alright...' Bede thought.
'Thank Arceus!' Bede thought as he finally found Allister. The little boy didn't wear his mask, he had a serene expression on his face. His purple eyes seemed to glow a bit in the dark. It didn't take long for him to notice Bede.
"Hello, Bede." Allister greeted his friend kindly. "Hello, Allister." Bede said surprisingly soft. He never was rude towards Allister, due to the fact that the small boy always was kind and sweet to him. That was one of the reasons why Bede developed brotherly feelings for him.
Bede was incredible protective of Allister and he would end anyone who had the intention to harm him! Giratina didn't fail to notice the gentle expression on Bede's face as he looked at her beloved Trainer.
A few hours later, Allister was getting sleepy. Bede decided to bring him home. He gave him a piggyback ride to Stow-On-Side. Giratina was quietly cooing as she witnessed Bede's softer side.
The End
