JAMIE FLATTERS as NETEYAM, BRITAIN DALTON as LO'AK, JACK CHAMPION as SPIDER, BAILEY BASS as TSIREYA and TRINITY JO-LI BLISS as TUKTIREY in THE WAY OF WATER.
The way of water has no beginning and no end. The sea is around you and in you. The sea is your home before your birth and after your death. Our hearts beat in the womb of the world. Our breath burns in the shadows of the deep. The sea gives and the sea takes. Water connects all things, life to death. Darkness to light. — AVATAR: THE WAY OF WATER (2022)

I ! Feels like we had matching wounds, but mine's still black and bruised (and yours is perfectly fine now.)
✎ Synopsis ! You've been thrusted to carry the burden of the eldest after his passing.
Content & warning: Jake sully x Daughter!Reader, Sully kids x Sister!Reader Neytiri x Daughter!Reader. Mentions of death and violence! Purely angst, at least for this chapter. Neteyam dies in the forest (the scene were quaritch first holds everyone hostage) I will not be following his storyline, because that's for you to take 🫵🫵🫵 buckle up.
Song: The Exit, Conan Gray.
Tumblr media
You stay with the ikrans.
Neteyam stepped forward without hesitation, stomach in knots with anxiety. “Father, I’m a warrior. I’m supposed to fight.”
“I need you here,” he cut through his attempt to follow, nostrils flaring and jaw locked. There was no room for negotiation with the authority that laced his tone. “I need you to listen when I say you stay here.” he jabbed his finger on his chest, sealing him stiffly on the spot. The seconds seemed to hang in the air like lead weights, and any moment lost was an opportunity for danger to strike– he could only thin his lips and sharply nod.
“I mean it, Neteyam.”
Such a simple ask of his father could have spared him from the rage of war, but how could you not expect the eldest to fight when his very siblings were in danger? Jake should have known better than to trust the empty ‘yes sir’ off his son’s lips– a warrior born out of his own teachings. You couldn’t blame him for following suit the second his parents were out of sight and into the wild.
How did it get to this? Jake’s thoughts would drift every painful step he took further. He knew it was in Lo’ak’s nature to be so reckless, hell, he took after his father himself– but before him, Kiri, or Tuk, it was just you and Neteyam.
Tumblr media
He remembered feeling ecstasy tremble down his whole body when he first cradled Neteyam. The moment the olo’eyktan had presented him to the clan, carrying him for everyone to see, he couldn’t see his son himself with the unshed tears blurring his vision. A part of him was relieved that he took after his mother, thinking it would have been a handful dealing with another Jake– but perhaps it was just a ploy; a first born’s excellence that they soon yearned for another.
Then you came, another splitting image of Neytiri. The people often mistook you and Neteyam for twins and she’d reveled in the praises you both would get. You were her first daughter— right from the ear-splitting cries you let out the moment you were out of your mother’s womb to the battle cries you had worked on earlier in years, mimicked from Neytiri herself, she always swelled in pride. Unlike the eldest’s reserved composure, you were the opposite; curious and buoyant, yet still as shy and collected.
It was different with Jake; he was new to this— absolutely clueless and terrified. After you came, the jolt wasn’t similar to Neteyam’s;  you were also his first babygirl. He wondered if he held you correctly, if the natural strictness he had with his son was fitting for you– oh Eywa, he definitely had to relearn weaving with Neytiri. The profound hesitation when it came to you was nerve-wracking, but the way your little hand would make its way around your father’s finger every time would ease the tight crease between his eyebrows, almost like you knew his very troubles.
You were the kindest, most sweetest child– a daddy’s girl, much to Neytiri’s complaints.
“Neteyam, scooch!” You yelled in a whisper, trying to desperately hide yourself in thick leaves and bushes. He couldn’t stifle his little giggles either, hearts pumping wildly in anticipation of your father. “Once he comes, remember to run left, alright?”
He nodded sharply. His face coated in mud in the guise of war paint that you drew yourself. Yours were drawn lousily, the strokes shaky and a mess.
Fee-fi-fo-fum, he chanted thickly, growing deeper and louder every stomp! The children could see him between the gaps— hands clawed and raised, stance menacing. You can run but you can’t hide!
Both of you shrunk in suspense, eager to best your father in playtime.
Then it was silent. Too silent. Your ears lifted curiously, eyes scanning the area only to be greeted by your father parting the leaves and surprising you both. You squealed a run and bolted to the right. Not even a second later, you heard the own panting of your twin beside you. You stared at him incredulously, legs faltering a bit, “Neteyam, I told you to go left!”
“This is left!”
“No, I’m right—! This is right, you skxawng!”
Amidst your silly bickering, Jake cunningly captured Neteyam, grabbing him from the armpits and hoisting him up high into the air. You could hear your brother’s laughter growing louder as Jake blew raspberries on his stomach, pretend-eating him with loud munches– his toothless bites making the younger’s giddiness double in size. You shrieked and sprinted faster, making a beeline to a different direction. This monster’s more unmerciful than you thought! With a determined look, you stopped behind a tree. I have to save Neteyam!
“One down and another to go!” You heard your father roar again, your brother giggling as he trailed along his heavy steps.
You threw a rock as hard as you can, shifting Jake’s attention to the noise, and before he knew it, you came running towards him, thick long vine in your hands as you lousily tied it around your father’s ankles. Neteyam shouts in victory, trying to tighten the bind. Jake could only stifle a laugh at the scene, trying not to soil the satisfaction that was evident in your smug smile. He dropped to the floor, “Oh no! You got me!”
“Toruk Makto my ass!” You got on top of him, slapping his chest down with your little hands. Jake shouts a ‘hey’ at your language, which you only sheepishly giggled in return. Neteyam parrots from behind, still holding onto his legs.
“We’re Toruk Makto now!”
Tumblr media
The memory would have easily put a smile on his face– ease his heart even a little bit, but the severity of the situation pulled him back and immediately, he was back in marine-mode, hands gripping onto the gun tightly. The moment they saw distress among the group with the green gas enveloping where his children were, they made a move.
The dreamwalkers felt a searing burn in their nostrils as the dense gas engulfed the area, the pain shooting up their visions. Your captor had a vice-like grip on you, dragging your body with him as you watched the others scramble in distress. He tugged painfully on your hair, forcing you to hiss and jab your nails into any exposed skin you could claw on. A headache throbbed at the back of your skull like an incessant drumbeat; you needed to think fast. With a sprained ankle, you knew you couldn’t get far.
Before you could even muster enough breath to scream for help, an arrow hit the avatar straight in the nape and dropped to the ground dead. You limped backwards, seeking an escape route, when suddenly someone grabbed your shoulders and pushed you against the rough tree bark. You body trembled, hitting whoever it was on their chest in an attempt to break free. But all efforts were futile as they held onto you tightly, shaking you vigorously.
“Sis, it’s me– you’re safe,” His hands traveled around your body to check for any serious wounds. The sound of his voice brought a sense of relief over you; your brother's caring demeanor enough to make you feel at ease and secure. Your face softens, “Are you hurt anywhere?” Neteyam anxiously asked, trying to get a hold of you.
“Ankle,” You exhaled, feeling the sharp pain shoot up again, “I sprained my ankle.”
He looked around, making out a path to safety. When he manages to form a plan inside his mind, he carries you like a princess, arms securely around your waist and under your legs. Neteyam ran face-first into the battlefield, making sharp turns whenever necessary to evade any incoming bullets. With no bows or means of retaliation, you were both defenseless. You could only grab tighter as your heart hammered tightly on your throat.
“Na’vi!” Neteyam stops dead in his tracks, an expression akin to a deer caught in headlights.
“Please, we just want to go home” Neteyam begged, his voice barely higher than a whisper. The light of the eclipse illuminated his features, and he instinctively pulled you closer to him as he took a few steps back. You could feel his exhaustion both physically and emotionally; a weariness that seemed so out of place on such a young soul. Everywhere around you was utter stillness- you couldn’t breathe, the tension in the air heavy and stifling.
“I’m sorry,” And before your brother could grab the dagger tucked to his loincloth, the avatar fired her gun towards you both as Neteyam thrashed in panic, throwing your beaten body to the side as he rolled off somewhere. The dreamwalker quickly towers over you and you could only close your eyes shut, waiting for cruel death. In a blink of an eye, her body drops dead and Lo’ak immediately rushes to your aid.
Only then did you feel the searing pain in your leg, the sensation of a bullet wound as hot blood slowly oozed out. It was nauseating, the smell of iron and the redness of it. Your eyes widened in realization as you clung to your younger brother, “Neteyam! Did you find Neteyam?”
Lo'ak hurriedly hoisted you up and with sheer adrenaline, you limped to the other side, searching for your brother. Your eyes darted to his body, stiffly lying on the grass and breathing shallowly. You couldn't bear to look at the blood that stained his abdomen; it was a sight you wish to never see, ever.
“Oh, Neteyam,” You shakily put pressure on the bullet wound, only for him to violently grab both of your wrists and desperately claw at it. You could only scream aloud as the blood spilled out more and more as he writhed and struggled. “I know, I know, I know, I know– please, please just stay still.” Your words came out as a disgusting croaking slur, tears unable to keep themselves at bay.
“__, I don’t want to die yet.” He cried out as you tried to keep your hold firm, “Father—father had asked me to stay, but I couldn’t. I couldn’t stay there and wait. I.. I don’t want to see his face when he realizes I didn’t listen-- that I failed him again. __ save me, please.”
He said hurriedly, breathing heavily every word. Save Neteyam, save Neteyam.
His jaw clenched violently, spit bubbling the corners of his mouth as he grabbed onto you tightly. The noises he let out had tugged on your every heart string, snapping it over and over. He struggled in your arms, pupils blown wide and teary. “Please great mother, not my brother, not like this– Lo’ak help me!” Your head sharply turned to his unmoving figure, eyes darted to you and Neteyam. You cradled him close, not minding the crimson cot coating your own body.
You were unable to think and you had your own wounds that needed to be tended to, but you couldn’t be bothered to put him down– to accept his already fleeting breath would soon be none. You kissed his temple, rocking his body. “I’m here, I’m here Neteyam.”
“I don’t want to die,” his eyes averted to the incoming figure behind you and he drew a harsher inhale. your father had pushed you aside to aid Neteyam, immediately checking for an exit wound. He was met with a loud cry, squirming uncontrollably from Jake’s sharp movements. When he saw blood gushing out the same on the back, his shoulders slumped in defeat as he let out a sob.
Jake put pressure on it nonetheless. “It’s okay, it’s okay.”
“Sir, I’m sorry,” His words slurred together desperately, reducing to nothing but whimpers. Your lungs deny you of any more air as you watched him struggle— even in the brink of death, he had the need to apologize. Apologize for things that wasn’t even his fault, for things that was beyond his control. You kneeled just behind your father, gaze moving between Neteyam’s body and your bloodied palms. “I’m s-sorry, please don’t be mad.”
How he addressed Jake had only weakened his already beaten heart. “Save your breath, son, please.”
Everything seems to remain still for a minute, then came the shriek of your mother. You stayed there, almost lifeless yourself. You didn’t wanna see; didn’t wanna see how Neteyam’s body is limp under your father’s hold— how his eyes falls crestfallen and void of any emotion. Your siblings watch as Neytiri litters her first born with kisses, how she embraces every skin she can touch closer to her. “Not my son, eywa please.”
Eywa had granted him rest in its worst kind.
When he died, the same bullets went through you and it remained situated there, gnawing your insides and pounding it to mush, eating everything it can and rotting your entirety to an ugly void of a shell. It was getting heavier; his body soundly resting above the delicately woven cloth, carried by his mourning family. You could feel your feet sinking down the very soil you stepped on and you visibly faltered every move.
His cold hand gripping tightly around your wrist, his blood drawn between the lines of your palms— your soul was left to relive that night in a loop, scream bellowing until nothing was let out but breathy weeps of what was left of you.
It was bound to happen; death loomed and you dare played with it nonetheless. You should have known better than to let Lo'ak wander, let alone join him.
You stopped walking, changing everyone's solemn looks to a confused one. “Father, I can’t do it.” You whispered.
He remained tight-lipped, staring at you solidly that you could hardly decipher his expression. Jake was never one for emotions; it was as if he was programmed to tuck everything that made him feel under a gun's trigger– it was the soldier in him, finding it easier to be calm with a weapon nearby, but right now he was absolutely defenseless; stripped bare and vulnerable and he hated every moment of it; resented the fact that he failed protecting everyone, not just as clan leader, but as a father too. The latter weighed more than anything else. It dulled him to dysfunction and he could barely breathe– could barely recognize his daughter in front of him.
You took his stare differently, a cold-shoulder. Before Neytiri could approach your figure, you ran; away from the voices and guilt, away from him. Neteyam’s blood burns brightly on your very hands and you’ve swallowed down the blame, forever residing within you.
You buried something so alive and you feared it would never let you rest.

☆ mauve here! i now introduce a new series of mine that i am so excited to work on. (i know i said i'd be inactive, but i couldn't help but finish this one draft) neteyam's dying scene is heavily inspired by the game, the last of us! this feels rushed, but i needed an opening to start the series so rest assured, there would be lengthier pieces after. criticisms are welcome. feel free to point out any mistakes. mauve out >:]

☆ Because, you’re kind.
Tumblr media
Note ! 𖦹 : this is based on a D&D tiktok i saw. :,) i hope this fic makes sense- if not then it becomes part of my sleep deprived nonsense.
Jake Sully/Gn!Reader (Platonic !)
tw !!: child neglect
Tumblr media
Y/N was a child birthed from two horribly neglectful parents. Jake Sully remembers vividly, the way your body was born into the light, a gift from Eywa. And the look of your mother’s disgust written on her face, and the distant look from your father.
Jake couldn’t tell whether the heat rising from his throat was bile, or the anger he felt.
I guess Na’vi can be shitty parents too.
He tried giving your parents a chance, seeing that maybe they were just simply fatigued. But that wasn’t the case, he watched over you closely as you grew up. Neytiri could tell something was up with Jake, whenever your parents came to help with operations.
Jake was stiff, his teeth gritting, his jaw clenched and furrowed brows. “you should be looking after your kid.” he seethes, glaring at the parents who were gathering guns. They were chanting loudly, loading guns into saddles as they cheered, killing sky people around the wreckage. “Why ? That child is no gift from Eywa, a mistake maybe. but no gift.” The father says, and Neytiri ears flatten. A crack in her heart, like glass. Jake Sully suddenly stops what he is doing, “You will love your child, you should. Your child, EVERY child is a gift from Eywa.” he says, before storming off to find more guns.
After that, both Neytiri and Jake swore to look after you. To watch you closely, to treat you like one of their own. Until you officially became one of their own.
When you turned 13, you don’t remember it. And Jake thanks Eywa for that, but both of your parents seemingly forgot about you. Or maybe it was intentional.
It was your first hunting trip, you had been begging your parents to take you hunting. They took you to the forest, to the deepest parts of forbidden to unmarked territory, Telling you that all the good animals to eat were here. Your father and mother say that they will watch from afar, and before you knew it. They had left you there, in part of the forest unmarked on a map.
It took a week for Jake and Neytiri to find you, you hid yourself in the nook of the tree. You slept soundly, and the seeds of Eywa surrounded you like an unspoken hug, as if Eywa was reassuring you. Jake’s eyes became glossy, he kneeled down over your body, and he cried. His body shivered and small sobs were let out, god he was so scared. He was so fucking scared you died.
That was when you became an official Sully.
.。.:*☆♡*.+
As you grew up, you forgot about your parents. Or that’s what everyone saw, you were bubbly now. Nature loving, Curious, full of life. A personality that was never shown when your parents took care of you.
The Sully family cherished you dearly, quickly becoming one of the eldest of the Sully children. Jake and Neytiri were everything your parents weren’t.
Your parents were quickly exiled from Omatikaya, It felt like the sun got brighter, the stars twinkled more, and the breeze welcomed Jake when they left. Relief washed over him.
It was a quiet day, you had come back from hunting with Neteyam. You and Neteyam had just finally turned 15, meaning you both could officially hunt without supervision. Neteyam went to explore with the rest of the family, whilst you and Jake stayed home. He watched as you prepared food, whilst he cleaned his weapons and reassembled them. Checking each bullet intently, putting the broken ones in a separate box. It was a comfortable silence, the warmth of breeze welcomed both of you.
“I know you’re not my real father.” You said simply, cutting the chunks of meat and putting it in a basket with various vegetables.
Jake stopped what he was doing, looking up but not looking at you.
“I know that Neytiri is not my mother.“ you say softly, like it was a secret. As if it was forbidden to say.
“how did you know ?” he asks, his voice is raspy yet ever so soft.
You look back at him, your eyes bright yet spoke a million words. you stopped cutting the meat, you walked to him and sat next to him. Letting your head rest on his shoulder, and you sigh.
“because you and Neytiri are kind.”

I LOVED your sully family x reader fic!!!
Makes me wonder what would happen if Quaritch came and tried to take reader away 👀
If he was scared of Neytiri before, he’s going to have a heart attack now lol
~A/N: I had planned to write a part two to it since I liked it and people were asking for it, but I just had to include your idea once I checked my inbox! Once again, reader is pretty gender neutral, only descriptors are your size since in this you're tiny.
~Masterlist
Part 1 , Part 2
CW: yandere behavior (platonic), possessive behavior, obsessive behavior, mental breakdown, mild description of violence, minor character death
Tumblr media
~(A/N: Going to include the Kiri scene, for plot purposes. Also going to follow some of the actual plot for part of this.)
-You had been with your new family and staying with the Metkayina for a few weeks now. You had gotten used to it with the rest of your family.
-Though it was frustrating that you couldn’t do the same things as your siblings. It was frustrating not being allowed to do the things even Tuk was allowed to do! You were tired of it, and kind of regretted calling them your family if it could’ve prevented this. But you did love them.
-You were once again collecting shells in the shallow water and playing with the other kids and your siblings, when someone suggested going for a deeper swim. Everyone said yes, and your siblings even allowed you to go because they said it would be safe!
-You followed the group and dove with them to look at the glowing plants. You were looking around when you noticed that Kiri had stopped swimming. You looked over and saw her shaking in place.
-You knew this was a problem and immediately went to her and swam up to the surface as fast as you could with Kiri in your grasp. Eventually the others noticed as well and helped you drag Kiri to the surface. You swam with the group as they brought Kiri to the shore.
-You insisted on going with her to the healer’s hut. You were allowed to and stayed by her side the whole time. You watched as Norm and Max showed up and enthusiastically hugged them when they arrived at the hut.
-They were in shock that you’ve been here with the Sully’s the whole time. They’d been worried when you just disappeared when the family did, but they were glad you were safe. They focused and went to Kiri, but you still clung to them the whole time while looking at your new sister.
-Neytiri was with you guys, and while she was extremely worried for her oldest daughter, she was fuming watching you cling to the dream walkers. Neytiri insisted Ronal stay and use a navi way of taking care of Kiri.
-She went and snatched you from the humans while ordering them to leave so the Metkayina’s tsahik could do her thing. She was royally pissed when you whined and reached for them as they were heading out. She just faced Kiri so you could focus on the important thing again.
-Once you caught sight of your sister again, you wiggled to get down. Your mother set you down and you hurried back to Kiri’s side. You were sitting beside her, resting your hand on her arm as Ronal was doing her chants.
When she finished, it only took a moment for Kiri’s eyes to open and her to gasp for air. She looked around and immediately spotted her mother and youngest sister, plus the rest of her family outside of the hut.
She clutched her mom’s and your hand and burst into tears. You leaned down to hug her as she cried. You didn’t blame her, this had to be a traumatizing experience for her. You just held her as the rest of the family gathered around her
As everyone settled, you patted her head before being pulled into your oldest brother’s lap. You didn’t want to be in anyone’s lap and started wiggling to be let go. Neteyam sighed, but set you down beside him anyway.
Though, with everyone focused on your sister, you got the chance to sneak out of the tent and go to Norm and Max. You ran up to them and collided with their legs. Norm turned and quickly picked you up. He smiled as you tightly hugged his neck.
You sighed and said, “I missed you.” You just hugged tighter and buried your face in his neck more. It felt so good to see them again. Norm hugged you back as tight as he could without hurting you. He said he missed you too, which just made you cling on tighter. Max was touched at the sight and went over to hug the both of you. He knew you liked getting ‘group hugged’ like this.
The moment lasted for a few minutes before one of the Sullys noticed you were gone and left the hut to find you. Neteyam was pissed when he saw you clinging to the scientists. He marched over and tapped Max on the shoulder to get his attention. Once he had it, he motioned for them to give you back, which they did reluctantly.
You looked over Neteyam’s shoulder as they started leaving. You waved at them and yelled, “Bye-bye!” They smiled and waved back at you before heading back to the forest.
-Once Neteyam was back in the hut with his family, he went and sat down with you right next to Kiri, who clung onto your hand again. You just sighed and settled into your brother’s lap more.
-You were getting kind of tired of being held most of the day by them, even if you struggled to keep up on your own. You wanted some time to yourself after this. Kiri would be recovering, so maybe it was possible.
-Once she was taken back to your family’s marui, everyone had gathered around in a hammock to cuddle together. And for some reason you were in the middle of it.
-You loved cuddles, but you were a little bit overwhelmed, overstimulated, and slightly too warm. So, once everyone was settled more and was deep enough into their nap, you gently took yourself out of the pile.
-You went to the place with some paper and wrote them a note saying you were out swimming/exploring to clear your head and relax. You knew this would worry them, but it would be worth it in the end.
You went to the entrance of the marui and quietly walked out, going towards the shore. You wandered around for a bit before coming across Tsireya, who was swimming around in the shallower water. You stood there for a minute before calling out to her.
You started to walk a bit into the water as she turned to look at you, a bit surprised to see your family nowhere in sight. She brushed the thought off and swam to where you were to see what you were doing. She asked why you were out here alone and you said, “I love them but I want some time to myself. I was a bit overwhelmed so I left them a note and came out to walk around for a bit. I like being around other people though and figured you wouldn’t mind hanging out with me for a little while. I just don’t wanna be picked up or held right now.” You looked up at her through your lashes and fiddled with your fingers as you explained yourself.
Tsireya was a bit concerned for you from the words, but happily agreed to spend some time with you. You said you wanted to just float around for a bit in the deeper part, so she swam out with you and watched over you while you relaxed. You floated on your back while staring up at the sky. Tsireya dove down under the water, but continued to keep a good watch over you. You were just an innocent and cute kid.
In the time you were floating around, Aonung and Rotxo had joined Tsireya in swimming around and keeping watch over you. It was surprisingly refreshing to see you enjoying yourself without your family around. You seemed so content at the moment that they didn’t want to interfere with it.
It was about an hour from when you started floating that they heard a commotion from the Sullys’ marui. They looked over and saw most of the family rush out of the marui, all of them except Kiri and Tuk, who were standing at the entrance with a piece of paper in Kiri’s hand. They all looked at each other, then at you, then back at the family rushing along the beach towards them.
You still hadn’t noticed them, and it seems like they hadn’t noticed you yet. They slowly swam to cover you from their view as they got close enough to look at you. They wanted you to have a bit more peace before the Sullys dragged you off with them.
Jake frantically asked them if they had seen you, and they looked at each other again before looking back at him and shaking their heads while shrugging. He narrowed his eyes at them and walked a bit closer. Neteyam and Loak immediately walked into the water to swim towards them. They got very nervous, because they knew you were still peacefully floating behind them, relaxing.
Once the two made it to them, they looked at the three with narrowed eyes. The three were shoulder to shoulder, like a little wall. They looked like they were hiding something. And they were. As soon as they looked around them, they saw you. You were still floating on you back, but had drifted into a light doze.
Loak let out a relieved sigh before getting closer and gently grabbing your arm. You jolted up and looked around before looking over your brother. You saw the three metkayina kids looking concerned, Neteyam in front of them looking relieved, and your parents on the shore still looking a bit panicked. Though once they saw you were okay, they both deflated and smiled at you.
You just sighed, upset that your alone time was interrupted, but went with your brothers anyway. As soon as you got to your parents, Neytiri picked you up and clutched you to herself. Along with Jake rubbing your back.
The metkayina children just looked at you with concern filled eyes. They thought you looked so tired. They kind of felt bad for you, because they knew that you probably never got to be alone in that family.
As they saw the Sullys walk off with you, they made eye contact again and nodded. Tsireya and Aonung were gonna bring their concern up with their parents. They knew they could make up something for all of the family to do so you could be by yourself for a while during the days.
Meanwhile, you were smothered with attention when you guys got back to your marui. You just slumped to the floor of the hammock and they surrounded you. You basically shut down so you could have alone time in your mind.
-The rest of the family noticed you went limp and cautiously backed away from you enough to look you over. You were just blankly staring in front of you. This made them very concerned.
-Kiri got closer and waved her hand in front of your face, and you didn’t react at all. She didn’t like that, so she gently shook you to see if you would react to that. You did react to that by jolting and rapidly blinking your eyes before looking around you.
-The family was relieved that you were okay and all hugged you again.
-Which was a mistake.
-Because you immediately burst into tears and tried struggling away from them. Their attempts to sooth you with affection just made you cry harder and scream louder. They were baffled because this was the first tantrum of yours they had ever witnessed in the months of knowing you.
-You were totally inconsolable for a good ten to fifteen minutes, which stressed them out beyond belief. They wanted you to calm down, but nothing that they were doing was helping, just seemed to make you cry harder. They were honestly at a loss for what to do.
-Finally, they all backed away from you. Once you had some breathing room, you stopped struggling and just cried for another ten minutes before slowly calming down. It took another 5 minutes for your cries to stop completely.
-The Sullys just watched you the whole time, shocked that you just needed them to not touch to make you calm down. It almost made them think that you didn’t love them anymore, but they knew that a lot of children just need space during big meltdowns like that.
-After you were done freaking out you got very tired. Throwing a tantrum uses a lot of energy. As you were falling asleep you quietly said, “I’m sorry. I’ve been overstimulated with all of the touching lately. I left our marui to relax by myself.”
-And with that, you were dead asleep.
The family carefully gathered around you and carefully put you into the middle of their cuddle pile. They just let you rest on top of them, just for that night. They would allow you to have a little bit of space for part of the next day, but that was it.
When you woke up the next morning the family was gathered around you like usual. You, surprisingly, didn’t care all too much since letting your emotions out. You went closer to Neytiri and snuggled into her since everyone else was still asleep. You drifted off to sleep, a lot warmer than before, and content.
Neytiri had woken up when you moved on top of her, and she was delighted that you chose to be close with her again. She waited until you went back to sleep to move closer to Jake and snuggle you closer between them.
She gently shook him awake, and once his eyes opened she motioned to you. He had the most radiant smile while realizing that you chose to lay with them. He put his arms around the both of you and gently purred. The other kids all woke up at this and peeked over their parents’ sides to see you between them. They were also happy to see that, as that would mean that they could cling to you again soon. The whole family rested while looking at you until the sun was mostly up. Then, everyone except you and Neytiri left the hammock to begin making breakfast.
Once breakfast was almost ready, Neytiri got up, while still holding you, and went over to where the rest of the family was. You were starting to stir just as she fully sat down. You opened your eyes and yawned right after, making the whole family smile at you. You were always so adorable when you did that.
You were fully awake when the food was ready to be served, perched on your mother’s lap and ready to receive your portion. It didn’t take you that long to eat, so you sat back against her as the rest of your family finished eating.
After they were all done eating, you were set on the ground and told you could do whatever by yourself until someone got you for lunch. You smiled so hard your cheeks hurt and thanked them before hurrying out of the marui. The rest of your family sighed before the kids nodded at each other and started following you.
-They saw you run across the shore before getting to a quiet part of the beach and going into the water. You waded around for a while, then swam out a bit further. Once you got to where it was deeper, you just started floating on your back.
-And didn’t do anything else for a while. They were pretty sure you fell asleep.
-Until they saw someone come up from underwater towards you. Once they surfaced they saw it was just Tsireya. Who looked over at you before swimming closer and stopping right next to you. She waved her hand in front of your face, giggling when she didn’t get a reaction.
-She gently pushed water towards you, making you wake up from your doze and look over at her. You lazily smiled before draping yourself over her back and laying your head back down. She just looked over her shoulder at you before gently swimming around with you on her.
-They were just shocked that you only wanted some time to be quiet and calm. They guessed that even children got worn out with constant activity and noise. Maybe the clinging didn’t help as well, since you were alone through most of the morning.
-Though it was time for them to start gathering you for lunch, or at least a snack. They did have more swimming lessons after lunch.
-They started waving at Tsireya, and it didn’t take long for her to notice them. She saw them waving her towards them, so she began gently swimming to the shore with you. It only took her about two minutes to reach the group of siblings, considering she swam slowly to not wake you up.
-Once she got to them, Kiri took you from her back into her arms, to not wake you back up. Neteyam thanked her and told her they were gonna have a small lunch before their lessons. Tsireya took the moment to tell them that her parents wanted them to bring you to the lesson today as well. As well as that Ronal wanted to have a conversation with her afterwards.
-The siblings were confused, but had to agree to the request of the tsahik. They just nodded before walking off with you.
Tsireya went to her mother to let her know the Sully siblings agreed to let you go with Ronal after the lesson.
Ronal was relieved that she could get you away from them for some extra time today, though she would talk to you during that time to figure out if there are different ways to take care of your health. She wanted to be prepared, just in case.
She had a bad feeling for the future.
Meanwhile, you were being held in Kiri’s lap as you ate lunch with your family. When you were all done you were carried over to where the lessons usually are. You were reluctantly put down when Aonung, Tsireya, and Rotxo made their way over to you and your siblings.
They explained that Tsireya and Aonung would be helping the siblings with their ilus and some more advanced diving. And Rotxo would be helping you with your breathing and supervising you underwater. To which you just nodded before walking over to Rotxo.
The whole group swam out to the deeper section of the water before Rotxo guided you away from the main group to keep you from being swept up by the ilus swimming near you. Your siblings were almost glaring at him, but knew that he was just helping you and keeping you safe. They didn’t exactly trust him with you, so they would glance over every once in a while to check up on you.
Meanwhile, you were just happily diving down a bit to look at all of the plants and animals under the water, periodically going up for air. You were proud of yourself for being able to spend up to five minutes underwater. You were just gleefully exploring with Rotxo, pointing out all of the exciting things you saw to him, which made him smile at you everytime. He was honestly having a great time watching you explore.
You two were doing that for about an hour and a half until he got the signal from Tsireya to bring you to Ronal and join the main lesson. So, he guided you to the surface, then helped you to the shore. Once you were there he asked if you wanted him to carry you. You thought about it before nodding and reaching up towards him.
He chuckled and picked you, holding you close to his chest, before starting to walk to the tsahik’s tent. It only took about ten minutes to make it there, and he dropped you off after calling out to Ronal to tell her you were there.
Ronal turned to you and motioned you closer to her. You quickly waddled, in her point of view, to her side and waited for more context. She just gently smiled at you and set you somewhere higher then sat down herself.
-She told you she wanted you to tell her if there were any ways that your health maintenance was different to navi.
-You put on your thinking face before telling her all of the things you knew, happily telling her that Norm and Max taught you most of those things. This took you almost half an hour because of how excited you were to get everything out.
-Ronal was intently listening to you and nodding along to what you were telling her. She had gathered that humans were very similar to navi, except more delicate and sensitive to things. She knew this information would be valuable to her later, she had a feeling you would get hurt more than other navi in their village.
-She said she understood and that you were a smart girl for remembering all of that. You beamed at her and hugged the nearest part of her to you. Which happened to be her arm. She looked down at you as you hugged her arm and smiled up at her.
-She thought you were a cute kid. She patted your head before scooping you up and asking if you would help her with her (easier) duties until dinnertime.
-And you easily agreed, very happy to help someone. You continued holding onto her as she went deeper into her hut. She set you on a mat as she brought over multiple things for the medicinal pastes she uses.
-She briefly introduces them to you, by saying their names and pointing at them, and telling you to help by handing her the right things as she makes more of her current medicines.
She spends about two hours making more medicines with you talking at her the whole time. She nods along to the right parts, even if what you are talking about concerns her a little bit. You had been telling her all about your life, from coming to Pandora to meeting the Sullys. She’s surprised that you are such a happy child after going through all of that.
She didn’t say that to you, she just told you that you’ve definitely had an interesting life. You happily nodded at her before Neytiri came into the hut to get you for dinner. You trotted over to her before getting picked up and carried away. You waved at Ronal over her shoulder as you were leaving the hut.
Ronal just sighed as you two left. She was very confused by the fact that the Sullys just took you with them when they came here. She would have to keep an eye on them in the future.
-Neytiri had carried you to where the family was eating on the beach. Well, they would be eating there, they were waiting for you to begin eating.
-She sat down with you in her lap and handed you your tiny bowl and small portion. You taking your first bite had prompted the others to start eating as well. And you were all finished eating within fifteen minutes.
-After you were all finished eating, you got up and went into the water to float for a bit before you had to go to sleep. Your siblings went in with you and started playing around you, and your parents were watching over all of you with smiles on their faces.
-Life continued on very similar to that for about another month before things changed in a way no one could’ve predicted. (A/N: I’m gonna skip right to the part where Quaritch shows up)
Loak had planned to take you guys with him to see Payakan. You all went in the water with him to visit the Tulkun, as he hadn’t left with the rest. All of you were paying all of your attention to Loak and Payakan and didn’t notice what was happening around you.
No one noticed until it happened. But suddenly, most of the people present were snatched up and out of the water. Those being you, Loak, Kiri, Tuk, and Tsireya. You had inhaled a little bit of water from being surprised while under, and started hacking and coughing as soon as you were above the surface. As soon as you were all thrown onto the floor of the ship, your siblings circled you and patted your back as you continued to cough.
You looked around you while still coughing up some water and saw some unfamiliar navi wearing human clothes. This gave you a bad feeling in your tummy. Finally after a few more minutes your coughing slowed down and you slumped down onto the deck of the ship you were thrown on. The rough fall had also made you pretty sore.
Your siblings and Tsireya were huddled around you while you were basically limp on the boat. The avatars around you were staring at the display in confusion. They had never seen the human before this and it seemed that all of the Sully children were very attached and protective of you, even the little one.
They had missed one of the Sully kids though, the oldest one. And they got one of the water ones instead. Oh well, they can work with this. They each grabbed a kid and brought them to the railing to tie them to it. They tied up the big ones first before putting the small ones in between them. That made the group relax a bit, even if they were still glaring at them.
Quarich just smirked and went to the boy to take his earpiece, he knows he can get to Jake this way. He snatched it off of the kid’s head and brought it up to his face. He called out to Jake and told him he had his kids. He got a very quick response asking which of his kids were there.
-He brought the device to each kid’s face and prompted them to say their names. He went down the line : Loak, Y/N, Kiri, Tuk, and Tsireya.
-As soon as Jake heard his kids were with that bastard, he turned to Neytiri with a determined look on his face. When all of the kids that were there were listed, they were both ready to end all of them by themselves. Right as they were gonna leave to kill them, his oldest along with Aonung and Roxto ran to them to tell them what happened.
-He said he got the news from the source, and were gonna end them for taking their babies. They looked at each other and nodded before going to get Tonowari and Ronal as well. They also asked the boys if they wanted to help.
-They all said yes, so the group went to get the other adults. They found them quickly. Once they explained the situation, both of the other parents were ready to kill as well.
-All of them got their weapons before heading out into the water. The whole time he was talking to Quarich to make sure he didn’t do anything to the kids. He saw the boat was far enough from the shore that they could sneak up on the avatars.
-The metkayina, Jake, and Neteyam got onto their ilus and skimwings, while Neytiri got onto her ikran, and they set off stealthily to reach the ship.
-They all went over the plan together, then surfaced to fill in Neytiri in the sky, but not through the comms. They went around the back of the ship, spotted Neytiri in the sky, then gave her the signal for her to attack first.
-Neytiri shot an arrow straight for Quaritch, making sure it went through his neck. He would not get away with taking her children, especially her youngest, delicate baby.
-After the ones in the water saw the arrow go through his neck, they emerged from the water and made quick work of the rest of the avatars, who were still stunned about the first attack.
-Neytiri descended from the sky and landed on the boat. Getting out her knife and slashing Quaritches throat to make sure he was dead. The rest of the group followed with the other avatars.
Once that was said and done, each set of parents went to their children and cut them free from the railing of the ship. The metkayina all embraced each other once Tsireya was free. The Sullys all hugged each other, with you and Tuk in the middle of it. They knew seeing death this close could be a bit traumatizing for children. Jake knew that was especially true for human children.
He picked you up and held you close to his chest. He kissed your head and quietly asked you if you were alright. You just clung to him and shook your head. He turned to the rest of his family and gently shook his head. They then all circled around you too and each kissed your head and rubbed your back before they went to the edge of the ship to head back to their marui.
You went with your dad on his skimwing, Tuk with your mom on her ikran, Kiri went with Neteyam on his ilu, Loak went on the ilu Aonung was riding, Tsireya rode on the skimwing with her dad, and Aonung rode with his mother on her skimwing. The families nodded at each other when they reached the shore before parting ways to go to their own maruis.
You were still being clutched in your dad’s arms as your family made their way across the beach and the pathways to your marui. You had been coming down from the adrenaline high of getting kidnapped and rescued. You got extremely tired, so you drifted off to sleep in your dad’s arms  before you even made it home.
Tuk had done the same in your mom’s arms, the older siblings smiling at you both, though Kiri and Loak were also very tired.
-Once you made it back Kiri took your from Jake, and Loak took Tuk from Neytiri, and they went to lay in the family hammock with you two. As soon as they laid down, they were out cold. The awake members of the family just smiled at the four of you before going to make dinner for you all.
-They took their time making it to give you guys a good nap before they had to wake you up for dinner. It took the three oldest of the family about forty minutes to finish a decent sized dinner for everyone. Once they were finished, they went over to your cuddle pile and gently shook all of you awake.
-You all sat up groggily, which made the oldest three chuckle at you guys. They quietly told you that dinner was ready, which quickly woke up Loak and Tuk, who jumped up and raced out of the hammock towards where the food was.
-Jake followed them to keep them from eating before the whole family was there. Neytiri stayed with you and Kiri, who were slower waking up than her other two youngest. She gently guided Kiri out of the hammock, then pushed her towards the rest of the family.
-She, however, gently picked you up and carried you with her to the others. She sat down between Jake and Kiri before getting food for you, slightly more than usual. She had a feeling you would be slightly hungrier than normal tonight.
-Everyone else had their portions of dinner by then and started eating as soon as you had yours. You ate just as slow as you usually did, and ate everything in your bowl as well. You were still hungry after finishing it, which was very unusual for you. You turned to your mother and quietly asked her to get you more food. She smiled and gave you another portion, this time slightly smaller than your normal one.
-Your family smiled at you as you finished the second helping, set down your bowl, and immediately went back to sleep in your mother’s lap. Your youngest brother and Tuk had been scarfing down huge portions of dinner, three for Loak, and two for Tuk before they were done as well and yawned after setting their bowls down too.
-Kiri was still tired as well after eating her bigger than normal portion too. Once the whole family was done eating, Jake took all of the stuff from dinner to the kitchen and set them down as Neytiri and Neteyam helped the rest of the family back into bed. He joined them as soon as he was done.
-He cuddled everyone close when he joined his family in their hammock. Pulling his mate and two youngest close to him while smiling. The older children stuck close to their parents’ side and fell asleep quickly. Jake and Neytiri shared a light kiss before going to sleep as well.
-When you woke up the next day you refused to let go of your family. And they were in heaven, even if they were also recovering from the major scare the day before. They had each taken some time for themselves throughout the day, essentially taking shifts with you to let you cling to them.
-By the end of the day, you were calmer and wanted to float outside the marui. You told them this, and they had someone go supervise you as you did it. You relaxed there for the hour before dinner was done.
-Loak had been watching over you the whole time. Once he heard that dinner was ready, he went over to the edge of the pathway and splashed some water on you to get your attention.
-He smiled at you as you opened your eyes and lifted your head to look over at him. He raised a hand and motioned you to come towards him. You just blinked at him before swimming over to the edge of the pathway.
-Once you were right in front of him, he reached out and lifted you right out of the water and into his arms. He easily carried you into the marui and to where the rest of your family was. He sat you down on his lap while he was between Kiri and Neteyam.
-His dad handed him his plate and yours, the last ones to be handed out, but he wasn’t that upset about it. This was the first time in a while that he got to have you with him during a meal, and he was going to relish it.
He gently handed you your dinner before starting to eat his. He was still shocked to this day how little food you eat. And that it makes you full. Last night was the most he had ever seen you eat, and it was still a pretty small amount compared to navi children. But, he couldn’t say anything about it since you were healthy, and he knew everyone else in his family, with the exception of his dad, felt that way. He figured it was since he had a lot more experience with human children.
It didn’t take long after you were done for the rest of the family to finish as well. Your mom took all of the things from dinner away while the rest of the family went towards your hammock. Loak had carried you over with him while Neteyam carried Tuk. They both laid down with you two and snuggled together, with Kiri joining while you were settling down. Not long after that, your parents came and snuggled in on either side of your little pile, each with an arm resting over all of you.
You all peacefully went to sleep, content with the reassuring presence of your family.

Neteyam x avatar!reader
genre: fluff?
warnings: a bit of swearing
summary: on your fifteen birthday, your "guardians" give you an unexpected gift you could only dream of and you can't wait to see the reaction of your Na'vi friends
part 2 part 3
i'm new to this thing lol but felt the need to write smth abt our sweetheart Neteyam :)
Living with a ball of chaos and loads of energy requires a bunch of patience and tolerance you, unfortunately, lost after all the years of room-sharing. Spider is an overwhelming boy when it comes to your opinion. He is fond of adventure and tends to drag you along to his trips to visit the Omatikaya clan, specifically, the Sully family, although you may not feel like traveling. You are familiar with the children of Toruk Makto and would consider them as your friends. You are the same age as their youngest son, Lo'ak, who you built a strong bond with. The two of you bring trouble wherever you go and are known for pulling some sort of pranks on the Na'vi people. Since Neytiri isn't a fan of the human kind, you aren't supposed to hang around her children everyday, but to her dismay, they adore you and Spider.
Some more than others.
"I swear to Eywa-" you stumble over a threshold for the second time that afternoon and groan. Norm chuckles, his hands covering your burning eyes, and takes a turn, witnessing your shoulders tense up at the sudden change of route. "What is this torture for?"
"We have a surprise for you," you huff and place your hands on his, ready to pull them away. You aren't planning on celebrating your birthday, not at the moment. "No, no," Norm abruptly stops in his tracks, making you stumble backwards. "It's your birthday and we want to celebrate."
"I don't," you state with a grunt and let your arms fall to your sides.
"Come on, Y/n," Norm begins to walk once again, pushing you forward. You shove your hands in the pockets of your zipper hoodie and allow the scientist to lead you, growing irritated. "It's your day! Have some fun."
You exhale deeply when he positions you in front of your gift and taps your closed eyelids gently. "Okay," he glances around the room to see if everybody else is ready to reveal the big surprise and when he receives multiple nods, he pulls his hands away from your face.
Your eyes flutter open, the shining light above your aching head making them squint right away. "Happy birthday!" you scan the room and the chanting people, scoffing.
Kiri is standing beside a smirking Spider, who washed his blue strips down for the occasion, with Tuk in her arms. The small Na'vi is holding a beautiful blooming flower she probably plucked on the way and flashes a toothy grin your way. "Oh my gosh," you shake your head in embarrassment, cheeks flushed.
"Happy birthday, kid," Max approaches you from behind and places his hands on your shoulders, squeezing them lightly. You turn around, ready to show him your disapproving look, but notice that the incubator beside Grace's avatar is filled with a clear blue liquid and narrow your eyes.
You walk towards the sleeping creature with curiosity and a smiling Max following. The frown on your face disappears within seconds after you realize what lies inside the container. You glance over your shoulder at Max, searching for a slight hint of assurance which he gives you with a quick nod. You place your hands on the glass and watch the avatar twitch. The two of you share similar face features along with a thin pair of eyebrows. It is your avatar. Tears form in the corners of your eyes as you circle around the incubator, studying the appearance of it carefully; sharp cheekbones, flat nose, narrow waist, a slim tail and the beautiful shade of blue.
"What is this?" you face the group of your friends and family, tears running down your cheeks which you are quick to wipe away with the sleeves of your hoodie.
"Your birthday gift," Norm gestures to the avatar with a wide smile on his lips, making you snicker.
"You're gonna look like us!" Tuk is placed on the ground by Kiri and rushes towards you, engulfing you in a hug. She might be way younger than you, but her height is beyond her years. You return the embrace and caress her back with a chuckle. "I can't wait for Neteyam and Lo'ak to see!"
She pulls away and extends her hand with the bright blue flower for you to accept, which you do with a sweet thank you. "They don't know about this?" you ask, shooting a questioning look at Kiri who shakes her head. "Not even Lo'ak?"
"No," Kiri approaches you and her younger sister with a smirk, crossing her arms over her chest as soon as she stops in front of you and leans on the incubator. "We didn't want to have two drooling skxawngs [idiots] here." you smack her forearm, sending her a glare. She brings her hands up as in surrender, her smile growing.
"Wanna take it for a run?" you glance behind Kiri and make eye contact with Norm, raising your eyebrows.
"Please, please!" Tuk tugs at your arm, the excitement reaching her round eyes.
"Sure," you hand Kiri the flower for the time being and turn to Max. "Which link unit is it, doc?"
----
"Woah!" you balance on your tiptoes behind Kiri who insisted that you travel to their new home through treetops with Spider keeping an eye on your clumsy feet and her younger sister encouraging you. Spider quickly finds a tight grip on your waist and with all his strength pulls you away from the edge of the branch. Your hands unintentionally land on his as you shudder.
"God," the boy sighs with relief and whistles at Kiri, who stops in her tracks, Tuk bumping into her legs. "Since when did you forget how to walk?"
You roll your eyes as you push his hands away and catch up to the Na'vi girls. "It's difficult, okay?"
"What is?" Tuk inquires and tilts her head, her short braids moving with the movement. Your blue-skinned face begins to darken in specific areas, giving away your embarrassment.
"She keeps tripping over her tail," Spider answers for you and earns a gentle slap on the back of his head from you. "Hey!" he massages the targeted spot and glares at your avatar.
"That's not true," you cross your arms and lean on your right leg with a huff. "I'm getting distracted by the flora."
"Then don't," as you're opening your mouth to argue with the boy, a conversation full of bickering can be heard in the distance, alerting the oldest in your group. Tuk wraps her arms around your thigh and begins to scan your surroundings for the source. You place your hand on top of her head and pull her even closer as Kiri looks around with narrowed eyes. Spider walks in front of you and Tuk, serving as a shield for you two when the rustling of leaves inches closer to you.
"That's not true!" A quite tall figure reveals itself with a slightly taller one trailing behind it. Their dark blue skin glowing underneath the afternoon sun along with their white teeth.
Kiri sighs in relief and rolls her eyes at her siblings. "Lo'ak, Neteyam," both smiling boys lock their gaze on the speaking Na'vi, wide-eyed. Their sister crosses her arms and leans on her left leg, tapping her biceps with her fingertips.
"Kiri," Lo'ak greets the blue-skinned girl with a grin and skips towards her, unaware of your presence because of her height. Tuk releases your leg and approaches her sister with curiosity flashing in her eyes. "Tuk?" The youngest son stops, noticing the awkward silence and raises one of his eyebrows. "What is going on here?"
"Aren't you supposed to be training?" Tuk questions her brothers, copying Kiri's stance.
"It ended like an hour ago," Lo'ak shrugs his shoulders and glances over one of them to send a cheeky grin to his brother who is dumbstruck in his spot on the branch. "Neteyam?"
His older brother fixes his posture and clears his throat. "Y/n?" you wince when your name leaves his lips, uncertainty sounding through his usual confidence. You step out of your hiding place and scratch the back of your neck, chuckling softly. "Is that really you?"
"Haha, yeah," you wave awkwardly at the boy as he approaches you with amazement and shock. "Hello.."
"What the fuck?" Lo'ak jogs towards you, past Neteyam, and grasps your wide shoulders. He studies your appearance, from head to toe, and begins to smile. "No way! You're blue!" he chuckles and shakes you. "You're actually blue!" You giggle at his reaction and place your five-digit hands on his, his grin growing even bigger. "You're officially my twin." you shake your head at that and give his chest a playful push.
Neteyam appears beside his brother, his eyes taking in your new body while yours settle on his serious face. His hand brushes itself against your temple, trying to figure out if you're actually real and not a creation of his imagination. The corners of his lips curve upwards when you wrap your fingers around his wrist and keep them secure there. He takes a notice of the sun lilly behind your pointed ear and the darker shade of blue on the bridge of your flat nose and cheeks.
"I think I'm gonna be sick," Spider pretends to gag by your right, sticking his tongue out. You roll your eyes at the human boy and smack his shoulder quite harshly, earning a hiss of pain from him. "Hey!"
"Ups," you chuckle and wave your hand in the air full of unnecessary tension, making the others snicker. "Forgot about the increased strength! My bad."
"You little.." Spider charges at you, but stumbles slightly when you're pulled aside and shielded by Neteyam. You stick your tongue out from behind the Na'vi's shoulder and anger the human boy even more. "You're lucky Neteyam is all over you." This time it is the Sully son himself who smacks the back of his head and receives a groan in return. Spider massages the struck spot, "Can we go? I don't want to get bullied over here!"
Kiri rolls her eyes playfully, but begins to jump from one branch to another with Tuk and Spider following. Lo'ak and Neteyam face you with a challenging smirk and before you know it, you're standing alone in the middle of the enormous forest, incapable of moving like a Na'vi, let alone knowing where you're supposed to go.
"Guys, come on!" you shoot your arms in the air, pacing from one side of the branch to the other. "That's not fair!"

Tumblr media
it was a day like any other. you were at the sullys’ home hanging out with kiri and tuk, waiting for the rest of the family to return from the raid. while you waited, kiri helped you with a new hairstyle that you wanted to try. it was just simple box braids with your natural hair, but you added some beads to the end.
you weren’t one for beads in your hair. neytiri and kiri always tried to get you to do it, but you never gave in. you complained that they made your head feel heavy and your neck hurt.
tuk got bored of listening to you guys, so she got up to play outside with the other kids in the village. “play nice, tuk!” kiri called after her little sister. tuk gave an absent-minded hum of agreement as she rushed out. you and kiri couldn’t help but giggle at the young girl’s free spirit.
you guys continue to braid your hair and chat for the next few hours until you hear the pitter-patter of little feet growing louder. tuk bursts into the tent as if on cue, shouting, “the war party is back! they are back!! come on! let’s go! let’s go!” luckily, kiri had just finished securing the beads on your last braid before tuk came in.
you and kiri both stood and ran out of the tent. you were just as eager for the return of the war party as tuk was.
because it meant the return of lo’ak
lo’ak has been your best friend since childhood. he has never left your side. not since the day you two met. you and lo’ak had been announced as promised mates back when the two of you were 15. now you’re both 17 and ready to be of age, so you can visit the tree of voices and mate before the great mother eywa, just like how he told you his parents did.
as you approached the heart of the village, you watched as all the warriors landed their ikrans. the village people chant and cheer in celebration of the warriors’ return. you looked around frantically until your eyes landed on precisely who you were looking for. still, before you could even step toward him, you noticed the dejected look on his face. not only him but neteyam too. neteyam, though, was roughed up way more than lo’ak was.
jake walked his boys past you and straight toward their home. you waited a few minutes, trying to respect their privacy as a family, but you couldn’t help yourself. you snuck over and pressed your back against the wall next to the entrance of their home, quietly listening in.
“you’re supposed to be spotters. how is it that i gave you direct orders, and you knuckleheads still managed to disobey them.” jake scolded his boys as neytiri stood behind them.
“now, ma jake, your son is actually bleeding,” she said, giving him a look. he just sighed and dismissed his eldest to go see his grandmother.
neytiri walked out of the tent and greeted you as she passed, “hello, koa, your hair looks beautiful.” you could only stare at her back in shock as she walked away, guiding her son to his grandmother’s tent. and just before neytiri was out of sight, she peered over her shoulder, making direct eye contact with you. then she winked, and immediately after, she was out of view.
you and neytiri had this adorable mother-daughter relationship in which she teased you about how you acted around her son, lo’ak since he was your promised mate. she would tease you whenever she caught you daydreaming or giggle and give you a knowing look when she noticed you and lo’ak’s entangled tails as you all sat for dinner.
you love neytiri. she was more of a mother to you than your actual mom, but you never told her that. they all think your home life is perfect, but everything is horrible behind closed doors.
before you could get deeper into your thoughts, your ears perked up at jake talking again.
“you do understand you almost got your brother killed today?”
“yes sir,” it was a quiet response from lo’ak. one full of insecurities. insecurities that you made a mental note to kiss away later when you met up at your ‘secret hideout,’ as lo’ak liked to call it.
“you’re grounded. no flying for a month. dismissed. oh, and go wash that shit off your face.” jake said before leaving lo’ak to be the only sully in their home. you stood from your hiding spot and silently slipped into their home, spotting lo’ak standing in the center of the room.
you noticed how his fists were clenched, and his frame shook, and then you heard the sniffles. you immediately walked over, wrapping your arms around him, palms pressed flat to his chest as you pressed your face between his shoulder blades. you felt his heartbeat, his breathing, heard his sobs, felt him shake.
“oh, lo’ak… i wish i could take this pain away for you,” you said as you felt tears coming to your eyes. you knew how much his fathers’ words hurt him.
lo’ak didn’t respond. all he did was turn in your grasp and push his face into your neck as he sobbed. slowly, you lowered your body, bringing you both to the floor so you could sit and hold him.
after a few minutes, you noticed he still had his face paint on. you got up, a process made way more complicated by who lo’ak didn’t want to let you go, grabbing a wooden bowl and a small cloth before sitting in front of the boy you love again.
reaching your hand, you raised his chin to see his face correctly. you wet the soft cloth with the water from the bowl, ringing it out a bit before introducing it to lo’ak’s face. you gently removed the war paint from his face, focusing on getting everything off.
while you’re focused on cleaning lo’ak’s face, he takes the time to admire your beauty. he takes in all of your features as if trying to memorize your face. you felt his gaze on you, but you didn’t mind it because lo’ak tended to do this often. he always sits quietly and admires you when you take his face paint off after the war party returns. once, you asked him what he was doing, but he just shushed you.
you pulled back from the boy, looking him in his eyes. you finished cleaning off his face, so you placed the cloth in the bowl, freeing up both of your hands. you cupped his cheeks, using your thumbs to wipe away his remaining tears. “lo’ak, why don’t we go to our secret hideout, hm? that always cheers you up.” you suggested, and the moment you said ‘secret hideout,’ lo’ak was sold.
“let’s go,” he said. his voice was hoarse and scratchy, probably from all the crying, but he ignored it. standing to his height and helping you with him, lo’ak grabbed your hand and started walking you out of his family’s home.
you didn’t get far, running into his back when he stopped suddenly. “ah- lo’ak! what was that for?” you said as you rubbed your nose, looking up at the taller boy. he turned to you and held your shoulders. “i have to do something before i leave,” he said, looking over at his grandmother’s tent. you could hear the voices of his siblings pouring out, and you could also see his parents sitting out front, talking.
you nodded in understanding. “it is okay, lo’ak, go. meet me there after, okay? don’t be long.” you said as you walked down the path the two of you usually took to get to your spot.
little did you know, as you were waiting for lo’ak at your hideout, he and his siblings were being held at gunpoint by rda avatars. the night had gotten so late that you laid down, hoping by the time you woke up, lo’ak would be next to you.
Tumblr media
you stirred awake at the sound of forest animals and ikrans flying by. rubbing your eyes, you sit up, noticing that you had fallen asleep in the forest waiting on lo’ak to meet you. you were hurt that he stood you up, but you were pretty rational, so you hoped he had a good excuse for why he never showed.
when you returned to the clan, you noticed that everyone in the village was surrounding the ikran takeoff area. you were confused, so you walked over. pushing through the crowd, you saw the sully family once you got to the front. they had everything packed onto their ikrans, and you noticed neytiri was crying.
when jake noticed, you could see his demeanor visibly soften. neytiri saw you and only started crying harder. “neytiri, what is happening?” you asked cautiously, tears coming to your eyes. “oh, my sweet girl,” she said as she held her arms out for you, hugging you close. “our family is being hunted,” she whispered to you.
your entire world stopped. you knew exactly what this meant. “no. no. no. neytiri, jake, please don’t leave. please don’t leave me. this is your home. we will fight for you guys. we will protect you guys. please don’t go. you guys are my family.” you said in a whispered voice. jake and neytiri comforted you to the best of their ability, but then it struck you.
lo’ak.
you release your hold on neytiri and turn to face him. he had an unreadable look like he was scared or nervous.
you walked over to him with tears in your eyes. “you did not meet me last night, lo’ak, and now your family is leaving. what am i to do?” you sobbed. lo’ak pulled you into his chest, holding you while you cried. he cried, too, because this hurt him more than anything. you were the one person in his life who truly understood and loved him, and now he had to leave you.
“let me come with you,” you begged. “i can pack my stuff very quickly, i promise-” lo’ak cut you off, squeezing you tighter into his body. “koa. you can not come. you have to stay here. this is the only way i will truly know you are safe.” you shook your head. “lo’ak, please don’t do this, please. i will find you, my love. i will fly all of pandora just to find you.”
the boy looked over to his father, giving him some kind of signal, and jake motioned to two warriors over. they immediately got the hint, walking around to you, grabbing your arms, and pulling you away from lo’ak so he could mount his ikran.
“i know ma koa. i’m sorry,” he said.
“KEHE, PLEASE LET ME GO TO HIM,” you screamed and kicked and cried, begging them to let you go as the sully family took off into the distance. the scream you let out was bloodcurdling. lo’ak could hear it, despite the distance his family had already flown away. having your promised mate leave you right in front of your eyes felt like having your heart ripped out of your chest.
Tumblr media
for five years, you have been flying around pandora, going from clan to clan, venturing through forests, and trying to find your promised mate. you never even thought about turning back; home has become a forgotten thought in your mind.
you and your ikran, seze, fled the omatikaya clan at night. not wanting anyone to see or hear you leave, but then again, it’s not like if you left at the busiest point of the day, it would’ve made a difference. nobody looked at you anymore, let alone acknowledged that you lived amongst them. so you took it upon yourself to leave. if everyone acted as if you didn’t exist, you might as well go; it’s not like anyone would have cared.
the omatikaya clan meant nothing to you, and you mean nothing to them.
at least that’s what you told yourself.
continuing to fly, you came across what looked like a young na’vi boy backing up toward a cliff edge. you analyze the situation further and notice a thanator slowly walking towards the child, emerging from its hiding spot. though you did not know the child, you still needed to save him.
“come on seze, yah!!”
your ikran took off towards the thanator, screeching. in one swoop, seze sunk his talons into the side thanators neck, killing him on impact. quickly removing your tsaheylu from seze, you slowly tried approaching the young boy, trying to coax him away from the cliff’s edge.
“hi, yawntutsyip, it is okay. i am not here to harm you. look,” you said as you slowly grabbed your bow and arrows, removing them from your body. you kicked them away, too, so the child would be more comfortable. you took another step closer, but he still cringed away. you looked down at your body and saw that you still had your knife on you. you quickly grabbed it and tossed it with your bow and arrows.
only then did the boy allow you to approach him. you wrapped your arms around the child, trying to soothe him from all the fear he had just experienced. you moved the two of you far, far away from the cliff. you sat against seze’s resting form, and the child curled up into you while you wrapped one of the blankets you packed when you left the omatikaya clan around the both of you. that boy had death at his front door, but you saved him.
the little boy pulled back from the hug, rubbing the tears out of his eyes. “irayo,” he said between hiccups and sobs. “it is okay, my child. you are safe,” you whispered.
“what is your name, my child?” you ask while trying to lull him to sleep.
“anuk,” he said, rubbing his eyes.
“hi anuk, my name is koa. you’re going to be okay, it is alright,” you said as you rocked him back and forth, planning on trying to find his home in the morning.
he was fighting his sleep, though, probably still running on adrenaline. looking up at you, he whispered, “i really like your bow.”
“thank you, anuk. my promised mate gave it to me. its very special to me.” you said, the vibrations from your voice soothing the boy, and the rocking motion only aided in lulling the boy to sleep.
you both lay under the stars of pandora’s night sky, seze remaining on guard so the two of you could rest in peace.
Tumblr media
the young tawkamian boy held onto your leg as you loaded the last of your belongings onto the back of seze. you never got to tell neytiri about the name because your iknimaya happened after the sully family left.
returning to reality when you felt tiny hands squeezing your leg again, the big sad eyes of the little village boy meeting yours. “anuk~ you cannot come with me, paruitsyip. i’m sorry, but it’s my time to go.”
“no, koa, stay here!! we can be a family! i can have an older sister again,” the words out of the poor boy’s mouth saddened you. you kneeled to his height so you could look him in the eyes.
“i’m so sorry, ‘nuk, but my lover is waiting for me, so i have to find him. i hope you find love like this, so you will one day understand why i left. but remember me, you never know, i may come back and visit.” she said, smiling at the young boy.
you were aware of the loss of the chief’s daughter because it happened to be the same night you found anuk. the two children traveled into the forest just before eclipse until they got lost while trying to escape a thanator. the same one that attacked anuk the night you found him.
anuk said that while he and his sister were going on their daily hunt, äzan noticed that a baby thanator had wandered too close to the clan’s territories. she started to panic because that meant that the mother was not far behind. she tried to get anuk to safety, but before she could get anywhere, anuk noticed the mother thanator creeping in the branches above them.
the eldest child looked to her younger brother and whispered, “anuk, you run right now. you run and do not turn back for me no matter what you hear me? go, now!”
upon hearing his sister’s stern voice, the young boy took off, and it was only seconds before he heard his sister’s screams. he knew he couldn’t turn back, though. she told him he couldn’t and would rather be banished from his clan than disobey her last words.
the young boy sniffled, reliving his last memory of his sister. you, having been at the tawkami clan for a few months now, know the look on his face when he returns to that memory. “hey, anu’, stay here with me, okay? äzan is with eywa. she’s in good hands.” you said, hugging the child.
after a few minutes of tears and goodbyes, you finally set off to continue your journey to find your promised mate. it was always sad when you left a clan. the friendships and bonds you would build with the people of the villages were something you held close to your heart. and every time you left, it left your heart missing the warmth of the village people.
Tumblr media
you think it had been about a week and a half, and you and seze were soaring around pandora. it wasn't until you started to see gorgeous blue waters that you perked up.
another day or so of flying goes by, and you see something as you pass over a clearing—or rather, someone.
there was a light-toned, almost turquoise, na'vi jumping around, looking like he was trying to get your attention. you waved back, and he started pointing somewhere, assuming that he was telling you to fly in that direction, so you followed. after a few minutes, you saw two more na'vi
and then three more
and then a whole group of them
and then, finally, you came across what you assumed was their homeland.
horns started blowing, signaling an arrival.
you slowly dismounted, where the water met the sea, and left seze on the beach. removing your flight gear, you notice a massive crowd of people staring at you. as this isn't your first time, you do what you've learned to do.
walking toward the crowd, you raised your hands in surrender, showing that you did not intend to harm anyone, the bow, arrows, and pocket knife that you left on seze's saddle makes that clear to the village people. but something was different about this clan.
it almost seemed as if they weren't shocked to see a na'vi from a faraway land.
after a few minutes, you're surrounded by these clan people. you have yet to learn what clan you are in or their leader. your attention is pulled to a tall man, who you assume is the clan leader, and you immediately acknowledge him.
"i see you," you said while also making the gesture.
he returned it, as well as a woman next to him who you assumed was the tsahik, so you gestured 'i see you' to her as well.
“who are you.” the woman hissed.
"hello. um.. my name is koa. i am a wanderer; i'm flying around pandora because i'm looking for someone." you explained, cowering away at the woman's hostility.
"i am tonowari, olo’eyktan, and this is my wife, ronal.” the tall man introduced himself and his mate
“what clan are you from, koa," ronal asked; you could hear the slight hiss in her voice as she said your name, as if she didn't want you to be here.
"i am from no clan." you say with your head down.
"well, you lived somewhere at some point? that place was?" tonowari pressed further.
“the forest. omatikaya.” you said, barely above a whisper.
"omatikaya? what is it with your people and seeing refuge with the metkayina clan, huh?" he joked, a few people around him laughing a bit too
"what do you mean?" you were confused. what was he talking about?
"you say you come looking for someone. who is this person?" ronal asked.
"i am looking for a man who goes by the name of lo'ak sully. does anyone of that name live here, or have you heard the name anywhere before?" you asked desperately,
the second you said his name, there were murmurs, gasps, and whispers from the crowd around you.
the two adults analyzed you. you were dirty, improperly dressed, and looked like you hadn't had a shower or meal in days. you looked exhausted. the mother in ronal stirred a bit.
tonowari and ronal turned to each other, sharing a look before looking at you again. they couldn't let you wander around anymore. not when they know where the person you're looking for is.
"come with me, my child; i am tsahik of the metkayina clan. you are going to be okay," ronal said as she wrapped her arms around you to support you while she walked you to her home. ronal doesn't know what it is about this child and why she's treating her differently than how she did the sully family, but that's not important right now.
"tonowari, go to the sullys and tell them an omatikayan girl is asking for lo'ak in our pod." her husband was moving within seconds of hearing his wife's demand, and the rest of the clan dispersed, going back to what they were doing.
Tumblr media
you were sitting in ronal’s home for about 20 minutes before you heard heavy footsteps growing louder. it was only a few seconds until tonowari pushed the tent’s flap aside, but you were only greeted with four out of six faces that had left five years ago.
jake
neytiri
kiri
and tuk...
where the hell are lo’ak and neteyam?
the family looks at you for a second, and when they accept that it’s you, they rush over and scoop you up into the warmest hug you’ve had in years.
it brings tears to your eyes seeing the people who you’ve missed for five years.
“oh, my sweet girl. you’re here,” neytiri said, wiping the tears from your eyes.
“how did you find us?” jake asked. his tone was concerned, a manner that only a worried father would use.
“i have been looking for you guys since you left….” you said nervously.
“you’ve been looking for us since we left?!” tuk cries; you glance over the once small child and notice that she is a preteen now, about 12 or 13 years old.
“oh my eywa tuk you’ve gotten so big!!” you said, tickling the girl in the same place you used to when she was younger. seeing as tuk immediately started giggling and laughing, you knew that even though she had grown up, she was still the same little girl you remembered.
“i know! i am taller than when lo’ak was my age,” she said, slightly teasing her older brother, who wasn’t even present. speaking of which,
“where is lo’ak?” you asked, looking over at kiri, your best friend who you miss so much. you figured you would ask about nete later since you assumed he was out hunting like he always was
but when you notice the room go silent, you refocus your attention on the people around you. the sully family had these looks on their faces, one that you couldn’t quite put your finger on. the air had grown thick with tension, and you started worrying. in the corner of the marui were ronal and tonowari. they both had looks of confusion on their face. they called jake over to have a conversation.
you watched him walk over and tried to listen to their whispered conversation. you gave up when you realized they were talking too low. but before you could completely tune out, you heard a small gasp followed by a heavy sigh.
jake told ronal and tonowari everything. he told them how lo’ak had a promised mate at their old clan and how they tried to talk some sense into him, but they couldn’t help but want to see their boy finally happy after the loss they faced as a family.
you turned back to your best friend,
“kiri… what is wrong? i just asked where lo’ak is?” you were starting to get worried. did something happen to him?
“he is out right now,” was all she said.
“out? kiri, what the fuck? out where?”
“he is out with tsireya!” tuk pitched in.
suddenly your heart started beating fast, and your stomach was dropping. your worst nightmare began to form in your head.
“who is tsireya?” you asked.
“tsireya is my daughter.” said tonowari.
you looked at tuk and asked.
“who is tsireya?” but tuk knew what you were really asking. ‘who is tsireya to lo’ak.’
“she is his mate.” the girl said dejectedly.
you felt your heart fall to the floor and shatter into a million pieces. the second tuk said that m-word, the one word you honestly never thought you would hear, it felt like your world was caving in.
everyone in the room could visibly see your heartbreak at that statement, but as soon as the expression came, it was gone. you masked your pain, not wanting to have a breakdown in front of everyone, but you were damn sure going to get some answers.
“where is he?”
“he is just south of here. at a place, we call three brothers. it is about a 10-minute ride on our ilus, but you have an ikran, so i am not sure how long it will take you.” ronal spoke up, directing you in the direction of the boy who she now knows betrayed you.
“i can make it there in 5,” you said as you stood and walked out of the room.
Tumblr media
sure enough, you got there in 5 minutes. you could tell by the three big ass rocks that were coming into view. something in your gut told you that you wouldn't like how this was about to go down.
"above the clouds," you instructed seze. this way, if you noticed lo'ak, he would see you when you wanted him to. it only took like 30 seconds of looking to find him. he was lying on the beach with a metkayina girl, tsireya.
"land." it was a simple command. seze brought you down silently as he settled on the opposite side of the beach.
sneaking up on someone isn't hard when walking in the sand. however, you still ensured you were as quiet as possible when you approached the couple. as you stood over the two, you questioned how you got so close without either of the na'vi noticing you. then you realized they were sleeping, with a blanket and everything.
they were sleeping under the eclipse…
that was something the two of you used to do.
this enraged you. walking back to seze, you grabbed your bow and one singular arrow. by the time you were standing over the couple again, you had taken your hand and drew back, aiming the arrow right in between lo'ak's face and the back of tsireya's head.
your hands shaking and the tears blurring her eyes only made you pull the arrow further back. and finally, you released a breath you didn't know you were holding as you let go of the hand, allowing it to snipe right into the ground in front of lo'aks nose.
it wasn't the noise of the arrow that woke lo'ak up. it was the force of the wind from how fast it had been released. it startled him. with wide eyes, he looked at the arrow and then up from where it came from, making eye contact with you.
lo'ak was in denial, to say the least. not believing his eyes, he slowly stood up, which caused tsireya to stir awake too, but she couldn't sit up much because your arrow trapped one of her braids in the sand.
as lo'ak stood to his full height, you got to consider how much he had grown over the last five years. the last time you saw each other, you were 17, and now you're 22. to you, lo'ak still looks like the boy you knew back then. the only difference you spotted was the height and muscle growth.
"nothing about you has changed. so why is everything so different now?" you asked him. he could hear the hurt in your voice. that's the only reason he could tell that you knew. you knew that tsireya was his mate. you knew he went against eywa's wishes. you knew he lied to you.
"koa, this isn't what it looks like," lo'ak started. you narrowed your eyes at him. "okay, this is kinda what it looks like, but-" suddenly tsireya checked into the conversation, cutting lo'ak, "YOU KNOW THIS CRAZY WOMAN?!"
to say lo'ak's mate was furious was an understatement. tsireya was pissed, she had been disturbed from her nap by some woman she didn't know, had her hair trapped in the sand, and now this woman was claiming to know her mate.
lo'ak, hearing tsireya yelling, immediately tried to calm her down. "baby, remember, no stress, okay? you gotta calm down."
"CALM DOWN?! how can you say calm down, lo'ak?!!” as the couple argued, you took your arrow out of the ground. pulling your arm back, you aim right in between tsireyas eyes, fully intending to release the arrow.
but before you could, lo'ak stepped between the two of you, holding his hands out.
he's trying to diffuse the situation.
"you defend her. why?!" you asked with tears in your eyes. your bow was still in the perfect position to release at any moment. "i defend her because she is my mate, koa." hearing the words come out of his mouth made it so much more real. you didn't want to accept that your promised mate had left you for someone else, but the facts were right in front of you.
lo'ak isn't yours anymore.
"you dare betray the will of eywa?!" you said, only pulling your arrow more. you knew this wasn't really what bothered you, but you weren't ready to crack, still wanting to keep up your strong warrior façade.
"what is she talking about, lo'ak," tsireya asks her mate. you can tell by the face that lo'ak made at tsireya's question that he got caught. this was the only thing that caused you to lower your bow slightly. a sound of disbelief left you. "you betrayed me for someone you can not even trust enough to tell the truth. you betrayed me with someone you do not even harbor any respect for!! lo'ak, what were you thinking?"
"she was there for me."
"how could i have been there for you when you left without telling me where you were going? i guarantee i have been there to comfort you after your father has run through you more times than she has."
"that's not what i meant-"
"then what do you mean, lo'ak? just help me understand what is happening-"
"SHE WAS THERE FOR ME WHEN NETEYAM DIED." you had pushed him so much, he snapped. lo'ak couldn't help but raise his voice at you. you were pushing his buttons, and you knew you were too. but this is not at all what you expected lo'ak to respond with
"wha-" you couldn't even form words while trying to process what lo'ak had just said.
neteyam is dead
"when…"
"four years ago" if your heart could break more, it would have. neteyam was like the older brother you never asked for. he always watched out for you when adventuring, treating you the way he treated kiri and tuk, like his little sister.
never in a million years did you think eywa would take such a mighty warrior from the world at such a young age.
"the sky people took him… we went to go save spider, and then he-" lo'ak got choked up, causing his mate to move so she could comfort him.
as she got up, the blanket fell to the floor, revealing the girl's baby bump.
"she's pregnant…."
"koa-" he tried to explain
"you did not tell her that you had a promised mate waiting for you at home? i was looking for you. i had hope that you loved me enough to wait for me because i told you i would come for you lo'ak. i told you i would, and yet… you got her pregnant…" the words felt like knives coming out of your mouth.
lo'ak started to get defensive. he didn't feel like he did anything wrong. he followed his heart, and his heart led him to tsireya. the girl who was there the nights he had endless nightmares, reliving the worst moment of his life. she was there when his mind started clouding with horrible thoughts. thoughts that haunted him until tsireya was finally able to pull him from the darkness in which he had submerged himself.
"oh, please don't act like you haven't thought about mating with someone else while i've been gone. eywa, i bet no'eng has been all over you since i've left."
that last sentence was like adding fuel to a flame. you were pissed.
"you know what? he was throwing himself at me. he asked me to be his tsahik and all." lo'ak scoffed, rolling his eyes "see, you're no better than i am, you traitor-" you didn't let him finish his sentence as you quickly raise your bow. the pointed edge being held at lo'ak's neck.
"i am no traitor. you will speak when i am done." not that he would ever admit it, but seeing this side of you terrified lo'ak.
what had he done to you…
you were not the same girl he remembered from when he left. but he refused to speak another word, unsure if you would hurt him, given the current circumstances.
"he asked me to be his tsahik. i went through the training, the lessons, the courting. and when the day came for us to mate in front of eywa, i refused. i told him, as i had been telling him and everyone else the entire time he was courting me. my heart belongs to lo'ak sully. i will not mate with anyone unless it is him. i will not be anyone's tsahik unless it is his. i will not bare anyone's children unless it is his. and yet i am stupid. i am stupid because here you are. mated, in love, starting a family with someone else when you said you would only do those things if it were with me."
"YOU HAD A DESTINED MATE, AND YOU DIDN'T TELL ME?!" tsireya was fuming.
"the baby, my love," lo'ak said, trying to find any excuse to get her to calm down.
"i was planning on telling you," he tried but tsireya wasn't having it. "oh yeah, when, you asshole! before or after you got me pregnant?!!" she yelled, throwing a handful of sand at her mate, which he dodged.
"you've lied to me for five years about having a promised mate?" lo'ak looked at tsireya now. when he heard the hurt in her voice, he moved closer to her, cupping her cheeks.
another thing he used to do with you.
"reya, you were there for me. okay? i fell for you, and i promise you, i put it on eywa-"
"it would not be wise to trust someone who has gone against the will of our great mother-" koa advised.
"KOA, SHUT. UP. tsireya, you were there for me when 'teyam died. every second of healing you were there for. you never left my side, and for that, i will love you till the end of pandora." hearing the love of your life not only raise his voice at you for the first time but also confess his undying love for someone else right in front of you was your breaking point. you felt like someone stabbed you in the heart, twisted the knife, and ripped it out.
neteyam is dead…
lo'ak no longer loves you…
what else is the point of being here?
but you are strong and came for a reason, so you're not about to let this woman redirect your conversation with lo'ak.
"after i rejected the tsahik position and refused to mate with no'eng, my parents disowned me. they said i was selfish, that i wasn't thinking about the clan and only about my feelings. so for the next five years i traveled pandora looking for you. because i knew if i was welcomed anywhere in the world, it would be where the sullys are- no. it would be where lo'ak te suli tsyeyk'itan is." tears were pouring out of your eyes, and it was clear as day that they were not going to stop any time soon.
with eclipse approaching, you just wanted to disappear. you didn't care where. it wouldn't matter anyways. not when the one person who you flew around the world for, the one person who you dreamed of mating with, being with, had mated with someone else without a second thought about you.
"but i guess that is not true anymore, is it..?" you finally lowered your bow, throwing it at lo'aks feet. "i would rather remain defenceless for the rest of my days than use a bow gifted to me by a traitor."
walking away, you didn't look back at all. hopping over seze’s back, you instructed him, "fly." within minutes, you were back on the sand of the metkayina beaches.
still crying your heart out, you wandered the village aimlessly. you tried your hardest not to make much noise as you walked around and as you started to get lost in your thoughts, you bumped into someone, causing you to return to reality.
a very tall someone.
"oh! i'm so sorry i wasn't looking where i was going," you said as you quickly tried to wipe your tears away so you could see who you were talking to.
you made eye contact with a very handsome metkayina boy who had tattoos littering his body and a high bun on top of his head. it almost felt like everything went in slow motion as you two made eye contact. but again, you were reeled back to the real world when the boy spoke.
“don't worry about it- wait, you're not a sully," he said, looking more confused than he was a few seconds ago. "who are you, and how did you get here undetected," he said, starting to lower himself into a battle stance, but kiri's laugh rang in your ears before things could get carried away. you turn your head, seeing the girl walking up behind you.
"for someone who is the chief's son, you are very uninformed, ao'nung," the younger girl jokes, flicking the older boy's forehead. "she is a visitor from the omatikayan clan. a family friend of ours," she says, hugging you around your shoulders.
"kiri, i was looking for you guys. i have a question," you said as you nervously played with your hands, tears brimming your eyes for the millionth time today.
you were thinking about how you lost everything, your family, your friends, your home, and you would never get to see neteyam again. you traveled all over pandora and for a boy who mated with someone else the first chance he got.
"is it okay if i stay with you guys for a while? i can't go back home." the hurt in your voice was evident to both na'vi standing with you.
"wait, why can't you go home? did your parents pass?? oh, my condolenc-" you cut kiri off.
"no-no. kiri, you do not understand. i can not go home because i was disowned. by my family, by the clan. everyone hates me." kiri didn't understand. how could the village's sweetheart suddenly be shunned by the whole clan? resting her hands on your shoulders gently, trying to reassure you, kiri asked you softly, "...what happened."
"where is your mother," you asked, ignoring kiri's question. "she is in our marui. come, it is this way. sorry, ao'nung, we have to go, but i can formally introduce you guys later, ya?” the sully's eldest daughter said, walking you away to her family's marui pod. when the two of you arrived, jake and neytiri immediately turned upon hearing sniffles and sobs to see who was entering their home.
when they noticed it was you, they took in your expression and remembered where you just came from putting two and two together. they were immediately offering you comfort. neytiri was the first to move.
"oh, my girl. my sweet, sweet girl." her mother mode activated immediately.
"ma sa'nu... 'teyam..." hearing you say her deceased son's name only made neytiri cry harder. but not for herself, for you. you were losing so much at once, it wasnt fair. you were getting hit by a storm that you didn't even know was coming and even then, no amount of time or experience couldve prepared you for this.
"he is with eywa now... he is safe..." was all she said as she pulled you into a tight hug, making you cry even more because you hadn't felt a mother's love in five years.
having nobody to raise you was hard. growing up on your own, feeding yourself and your ikran, and surviving extreme weather and dangerous predators as a child who wasn't ready for the world was hard. you haven't felt warmth and love in ages, and this... this felt so nice. after how shitty the past few hours have been, this felt like floating on a cloud. a cloud you never wanted to come down from.
and then, when jake joined the hug, you felt the entire world go silent—feeling the two people you considered your parents your whole life embrace brought warmth to your hurting heart.
you felt peace. for the first time in five years, you felt peace! but of course, it had to be ruined by the sound of tuk and a boy's voice arguing with the last person you wanted to see.
"lo'ak stop. go back with tsireya! roxto pull harder!"
"i'm sorry, tuk, i'm trying!"
lo'ak walked into the entrance, roxto and tuk hanging off his arms, trying to pull him in the opposite direction. "koa! how dare you. you come to my clan, you mess with my life, you-"
you scoffed, "so, what? you're following me now?" you asked.
"you come to my home and say i'm following you? how ironic" lo'ak rolled his eyes. you get up from neytiri's hug, walking over to lo'ak so he can hear what you are about to say.
"i only came here looking for you because i thought you loved me, lo'ak. i guess i was wrong," you said, bumping his shoulder as you walked past. though before you got anywhere, he grabbed your arm.
"i'm not done talking to you-"
"FUCK YOU, LO'AK," you screamed.
the room was silent.
"have i not given up everything for you? have i not grieved every loss known to man? HAVE I NOT SUFFERED ENOUGH FOR YOU, LO'AK?" if your tears stopped earlier, they sure are back now.
"i refused to be tsahik and rejected the finest man in the village all because of my love for you, so have i not given up my life? i have been disowned by my dear parents... my poor, poor parents, so have i not given up my family?" your body was so spent. you felt like she had been running on adrenaline for five years. you feel like it's starting to wear off, causing pain in every inch of your body. that's how bad this heartbreak hurt you.
"i have TRAVELLED AROUND PANDORA FOR THE PAST FIVE. FUCKING. YEARS. LOOKING FOR YOUR DUMBASS BECAUSE IN THE BACK OF MY HEAD A PART OF ME KNEW THAT I WOULD NEVER LOVE ANYONE THE WAY I LOVE YOU, LO'AK..." there was dead silence in the marui. nobody spoke, nobody moved, nobody breathed. falling to your knees, you continued to sob on the floor in the sully family marui.
on your knees in front of the man who you thought loved you.
you raised your head to look lo'ak in the eyes as you said, "maybe that is a good thing, though. maybe i should not love anyone the way i loved you. because the way i loved you caused you to not only leave me alone but to abandon the will of eywa completely. if you hate me so much that you go to such lengths to get away from my love, i will leave to where nobody knows where or who i am. i am destined to be alone in this life anyways, right?.." you sobbed. everyone in the room felt their hearts break hearing you crying like that.
"i never thought you would do this to me in a million years. but i guess we all get a reality check one day." you said, standing up and walking out the marui, barely finishing your sentence. you ignored all protests coming from the rest of the sully family as you walked away.
Tumblr media
you had been hiding away from the sully family since the day you and lo’a- him argued. it wasn’t because the family had done anything wrong. you just were not ready to talk about your feelings, and knowing jake and neytiri sully, they would find a way to make you speak like they do with all their kids.
over a week passed, and every time you saw someone from the sully family, you turned the other way and hid because then that would mean they would start asking you questions and probing you, and you weren’t emotionally ready for that right now.
it was eclipse, and you were sitting against a rock, looking out into the ocean with a lost look in your eyes. you were silently crying to yourself, wishing, praying that this was all a dream and that your worst nightmare hadnt coming true. yet you already knew it wasn’t a dream, but it didn’t hurt to try, right?
“i thought i would run into you again” it was a familiar voice you had only heard one other time, yet you couldn’t put a finger on who exactly it was. you didn’t have enough energy to turn your body, though.
the sleepless nights combined with the nightmares you got when did you manage to fall asleep created the worst sleep deprivation you’ve ever experienced. you didn’t think you had enough energy for anything anymore.
“hellooo?? pandora to crybaby! is anyone in there??” ao’nung was waving his hand in your face slightly.
“i’m not a crybaby, skxawng. this isn’t normal for me,” you defended yourself as you tried to quickly wipe your tears away, not noticing how close he had gotten when you were drowning in your thoughts.
the handsome boy you knew as ao’nung was someone you would often see wandering around the village. the boy had been looking for you. he was hoping he could catch you alone at some point so the two of you could talk. while he had seen you around a few times, you were always gone before he could even notice approach you. he also never got your name from kiri, so calling out to you wasn’t an option.
“i can tell. you look like a fierce female warrior who falls to nobody and nothing. so tell me, what’s got you stumbling?”
you had to think a little bit to understand the boy’s analogy, but you could only let out a heavy sigh once you understood it.
“that bad, huh?” he asked.
you scoffed, “i think we can consider this a fall, not just a stumble.”
ao’nung just chuckled at your response. “well, if you are going to fall over a boy who could not see the beautiful woman standing before him, fine. but please, at least let me be the handsome man who picks you back up again,” you started blushing a deep shade of blue at his words.
“do not flatter yourself, sir. handsome is being generous. you are mediocre at best.” playfully teasing each other, ao’nung keeps the joke going.
“mediocre?” the boy feigned hurt, completely fooling you in the process. since you don’t know ao’nung well, you thought you hurt his feelings.
“oh, no, i am sorry i thought we were joking around. i did not mean to hurt your feelings. eywa, can i get anything right” with how sensitive you were from the previous events this week, the tears were already starting to run down your face. before ao’nung could move a muscle, though, he noticed a woodsprite floating around your form.
there were two of them. you looked up for a second, only for your expression to fall and your eyes to widen.
“ao’nung... there is a woodsprite on your shoulder...” you whispered
“and there is one on your head,” he whispered back.
the two of you knew exactly what this meant but so suddenly? were you even ready for this? you are literally still going through the worst heartbreak in the world, and now eywa is telling you that this is who you’re destined to be with now? what about lo’ak? what about-
eywa bless this boy and his ability to drag you out of your thoughts because only she knows that you would need someone good at roping you in when you got lost in the sea of your thoughts.
“hey, look, i got filled in when i went home; i’m the chief’s son, tsireya is my sister. after we first metast week, i just wanted you to know that i understand what you’re going through. i also understand if you want to take this slow or if you’re not ready at all. regardless of what you choose, i will still be with you if you want to be with me. it would help if you had somebody on your team after all,” his charming smile sent a sense of security through your body.
at that moment, seeing ao’nung smile made you forget about all the troubles in your small world, and you finally felt what you hoped was happiness. maybe this is a good thing. you know eywa would never do anything bad to you. this, everything that’s wrong right now was the fault of lo’ak, but you refused to let him win.
lo’ak doesn’t get to be happy while you live your life miserable so you take ao’nung’s hand and say, “well, if eywa says it’s meant to be, then you really must be it for me, ao’nung.” the smirk on your face threw ao’nung through a loop because he had only ever seen you crying, but the boy wouldn’t let this deter him. he raised his large hand and wiped away any stray tears you had left.
“you are to be my tsahik.” ao’nung said as he pressed his forehead to yours. “i hope you’re ready for training, princess, because this ain’t the omatikaya clan.” you were shocked because although you refused the tsahik position in your home clan, you had dreamed of being tsahik one day. what made it so much better was that lo’ak promised you that you would be his tsahik.
not anymore.
“i thought lo’ak was next to become olo’eyktan.” you inquired.
“don’t be silly. you think i’m going to let a baby-tailed-”
“hey!”
“sorry, not you! your tail is cute-” ao’nung tried to save himself, but when he heard the giggle from you, he could tell you were joking.
“haha, very funny. you got me,” he said sarcastically, laughing alone with you.
“but, princess, you think i’m going to let some forest boy run my clan? absolutely not. i just needed to find my tsahik before becoming olo’eyktan, and my parents do not believe in arranged marriages. thankfully, eywa has finally brought you here to me, but we have just one problem.” the confidence radiating off of him was so attractive. he just oozed sexy, and you couldn’t help it. you shamelessly stared at your new promised mate, admiring all his muscles, tattoos, and personality.
the boy, who had yet to move his forehead from yours, looked into your eyes. it felt like he was looking into your soul.
like he was looking into your past.
like he was trying to read what kind of person you are.
and since you already decided that you wouldn’t love anyone the way you loved lo’ak, you let him.
you let him observe you, learn you, study your features and mannerisms, something nobody had ever done. something nobody cared enough to do.
“what is this problem you speak of, ma ao’nung.” the words felt foreign coming off your tongue, but you let it happen. you wanted to embrace this new environment, embrace this new home, embrace this new love and life that you were so graciously given by the great mother, eywa.
“i still don’t know your name, ma tsahik.” ao’nung felt the same, the words were foreign, but he had felt drawn to you the moment he laid eyes on you. he wanted you to talk him to sleep when he first heard your voice, he wanted you to be the mother of his kids, and he wanted you to be the best tsahik this clan has ever seen, right after his mom, ofc.
“my name is koa. i have no last name, and i am from nowhere. i have lost everything i love, but i’m hoping, praying to the great mother eywa, that this-” you say as you squeeze his hands in yours. “-is not for nothing. i hope that whatever comes of this new love, i will enjoy every second of it.”
“after everything you’ve been through, you deserve it, ma koa.” ao’nung said as he pulled his promised mate into a warm embrace. you hesitated before hugging back. although you’re good at flirting with your words, when it comes to physical attention, you folded. but can anyone blame you?
you had been touch starved for five years with nothing and nobody but you and your ikran the entire journey. you had not been held, caressed, or kissed in what felt like ages.
“i can’t wait to start a life with you,” he mumbled into the hug, and that sentence alone brought tears to koas eyes again, but for the first time in a while, they were happy tears.
“i can’t wait either,” you said before finally throwing your arms around his neck, causing ao’nung to fall backward into the sand. something they both laughed off and basked in.
today had been a long day, so you fell asleep together in the sand under the night sky.
Tumblr media
ao'nung's father allowed him two weeks off of his olo'eyktan duties to get to know his new promised mate, and the boy hasn't ever been happier. for two weeks, he returns to being his teenage self, riding ilus all day, relaxing on the beach, and watching the sunset. he hadn't felt this alive in years, and now he was happiest with the person he loved most. to him, nothing in life could be any link.
you agreed. although it has only been a short two weeks being here, being home, you haven't felt this way in ages. though you get your bouts of sadness whenever you have a run-in with lo'ak, your olo'eyktan has never failed to be there for you in your times of need.
and you couldn't love him more for it.
"ya' know," ao'nung started, "when i first met you, i immediately knew." having to keep his voice under a whisper because the rest of his family was sleeping.
you giggled a bit as you moved closer to your boyfriend. "knew what, skxawng."
"i knew I wanted you to be mine—tsahik or not. from the moment i laid my eyes on you, you were prettier than any of the stars in the sky, the most beautiful woman i have ever seen." he marveled at his woman. he was looking at you as if you were his entire universe.
"didn't you get down into a battle stance the first time we met." you teased.
"i did, but it was only because i was out hunting the whole day, and i had not been made aware that we had a visitor from another clan. i just saw a pretty blue warrior, and i couldn't help myself," he said with a smirk. wrapping his arm around your waist and pulling you against his body as if you weren't close enough. the two of you drifted off to sleep, not a care in the world.
Tumblr media
a conversation came up one day when the sullys and the olo'eyktan's family decided to have a joint dinner.
"you know. you two should be living in your own marui." ronal said without hesitating in her actions. jake and tonowari, though, are both currently choking on their food. neytiri gasped, excitedly, "i was thinking the same thing!!"
within the next week, you and ao'nung were kicked out of his parents' marui and given your own home. ronal and neytiri said it was an early mating ritual gift, but jake and tonowari werent happy about it.
tonowari is protective of you like you're his own daughter. jake as well, so when they hear that ronal and neytiri were planning on giving you and ao'nung a marui for just the two of you to stay in, they immediately knew they would have to remain mentally preparing themselves for grandchildren. they were just protective dads, that's all. there's no harm in that.
on nights that ronal or neytiri would find their husband missing, they would know exactly where to find them. camped out in front of ao'nung and your home, ensure no babymaking was happening and it always ended the same. the half-asleep wife would drag her husband by his ear back to their home and scold them for not trusting their 22-year-old daughter.
jake and tonowari would argue that they were trying to protect their little girl from this world's harsh and cruel truths. their wives, however, argue that you're not a little girl anymore, and they want some grandbabies.
Tumblr media
“ao! i have a question for you,” you called your boyfriend, soon-to-be mate, over as he walked into your shared marui, finally home from hunting.
at first, the man didn’t answer. he silently walked over to you, draping his body over your back and wrapping his arms around your waist. he reached up to turn your face so he could give you a kiss hello. “what did i tell you about questions before my hello kiss, baby?”
you playfully rolled your eyes at him, setting aside the bracelet you made for tsireya’s newborn girl. you had befriended the metkayina girl one day when she defended you from her own mate. saying how he has put you through so much, the least he could do was leave you alone.
after that, the two of you got to talking and then apologizing. tsireya told you how she never would’ve mated with lo’ak if she knew he was taken, but you assured her that it was a thing of the past and that you were with ao’nung. of course, that led to some girl talk, and you may have let it slip that the two of you were trying for a baby. of course, she was so excited to hear the news, but you swore her to secrecy.
your boyfriend, tired of waiting for a response from you, decided to regain your attention. you had a habit of getting lost in your head, and ao’nung was never one to be upset about it. he actually thought it was cute; your brain working so hard that you forget that you are in the middle of making dinner or beading a necklace for kiri.
“ma koa, i feel like if you don’t drown in the ocean, you’ll drown in your thoughts.” ao’nung said, pinching your side to get your attention. “answer my question, yawntu.”
“kiss first, questions later.” you said, rolling your eyes again as you brought him into a kiss.
“exactly, look at my smart girl,” he said, nuzzling his face into your neck as you giggled at how it felt. the two of you fell back, curling into one another and staying like that for a while. but not long after, you broke the silence again.
“ao,’ there are some people i want to invite to our mating ceremony. i know it is not traditional to ask other clans to attend, but they are the closest thing i have to a family outside you and the sullys. do you think your father would approve?” the hopeful look in your eyes made ao’nung believe that even if his dad disagreed, he would find a way to get your family.
“i will talk to him about it, my love. i wouldn’t want your family to not be present during our mating ceremony. it might take some convincing, but i will try ma koa. now sleep.” he said as he kissed your forehead, closed the flap to their marui, and drifted off into a dream.
Tumblr media
ao’nung was on his hands and knees, begging his father and mother to invite the other clans to your mating ritual. they had given him their final answer 10 minutes ago, but the boy refused to take no for an answer.
“sa’nok… sempul… please. they’re all she has besides us. and she can’t only invite one or two. how would everyone else feel?” the things love will make people do.
ao’nung was never one to ask twice, let alone beg. if he asked his parents for something and they said no, then oh well. if he was supposed to have it, eywa would’ve made his parents say yes. but here he was, shocking not only his parents but also himself.
“a mating ritual is a sacred ceremony ao’nung. we can not just invite whatever clans we want to ‘come watch’. it is ridiculous.” ronal said.
“they are not ‘whatever clans’ they are her family.” your mate defended.
suddenly jake sully walked into the olo’eyktans marui. “i’m sorry if i’m interrupting anything but i couldn’t help but overhear that ao’nung was asking to invite the other clans to the mating ceremony.”
“this is a family matter, jake sully. please excuse yourself.” tonowari said, remaining civil.
“well koa is my daughter so i am a part of this family. look, i’m not trying to give you guys input or advice. i just want to give you insight. on earth-”
jake was cut off by a harsh hiss from ronal but continued. “please just let me finish. on earth we have ceremonies and celebrations called weddings. it’s similar to a mating ceremony but since skywalkers don’t have queues they give each other rings and wed themselves to each other. in these ceremonies both the male and female get to invite their sides of the family to watch them officially bond with the person who they love.”
ronal and tonowari take a second to think. they knew about your past by now but not how many clans she had visited. ao’nung had not moved from his place on his knees, showing just how serious he is about having his mates’ family there. it was only a few minutes of private discussion before the olo’eyktan, and his tsahik were ready to speak up.
“how many clans are there.”
ao’nung’s head shot up, a beaming smile on his face. “eight,”
Tumblr media
it was the day of your mating ceremony. neytiri and ronal help with finishing touches, fixing your hair, straightening your headpiece, the whole nine yards. the men were over in ao'nung, and your marui helping him get ready.
you were worried sick but also frustrated, and everyone in ronal's marui could see it on your face.
"ma itetsyip, what is the matter?" neytiri said, holding your chin to look at her.
"none of the clans have shown up yet. i am terrified of mating with someone even though i've been dreaming about it since i was a little girl. i have no family to come to watch my ceremony and to make everything worse, i didn't eat breakfast this morning, so now i'm hangry." you could feel the tears brimming in your eyes.
kiri and tsireya just laughing at your dilemma while trying to keep you from messing up your face paint.
"oh dear, look straight down. koa, your tears will mess up your face paint if you keep crying!" tsireya said as she tried to fan her friends' tears while holding her baby.
"you became a real crybaby in the past 6 years, ya know that." it was only a joke, kiri trying to lighten the mood so you would stop crying, and it actually worked.
"i'm sorry, guys, i'm trying." you said, laughing at your friends' teasing through your tears.
"oh, ma koa, honey, we can always push the ceremony back if you are not ready." ronal offered, but you shook your head immediately. "sa'nu, i want to do this. i just wish i had someone to hand me off." you said with a sad look on your face. you knew jake or tonowari would do it in a heartbeat, but something in your heart told you that it shouldn't be them. it should be someone else.
while all the older women were talking and helping you out, tuk took it upon herself to pick some fruit for you. she noticed you skipped breakfast like you always had back when you all lived with the omatikaya clan. the young girl wandered around until she found the exact fruit she was looking for, immediately running to jake so he could cut it up.
coming back into the marui with the bowl of fruit that she made jake cut for her, tuk smiled as she offered it to you.
"oh, thank you, tuk. omg, it's the fruit i like, aww tuk-tuk, you remembered," you said, pulling the preteen into a hug, which she gladly returned. you smiled and quickly tried to finish the fruit before it was time for you to go out for your ceremony.
but then the clan's horns were blown, signaling an arrival or several. suddenly you can hear the screeches of banshees, the shrills of tulkun, and the chants and cries of clans people. that's when you knew your family had arrived.
you peeked out the flap of your marui pod only to see hundreds of na'vi. all from different lineages and places but still bonding and mingling with each other as if everyone here were one big family. your clans had come. all 8 of them. your family was here just for your mating ceremony.
"cry straight down, cry straight down," you reminded yourself. your mother figures couldn't help but giggle at your antics. kiri, tuk, and tsireya took the route to fully laugh at how you were acting.
"it's time," neytiri said, her and ronal looking at their little girl, all grown up, about to be mated before eywa. they couldn't be more proud of you. you surpassed the clan's expectations in the short year you had been there. you had become one of the strongest female warriors the metkayina had ever seen. you had completed your tsahik training and were finally ready to take on the world. and you were prepared to do it with ao'nung by your side.
"wait here!!" kiri and tsireya, who carefully handed her baby to tuk, ran out of the marui. it took them 5 minutes to return, but they weren't alone.
the 8 clan leaders, who took you in and cared for you, were standing before you. "your friends told us that you wanted someone to hand you off." the head of the anuri clan spoke up. it was the first clan you ever visited.
"she brought all 8 of us so you could choose which one of us you would like to walk down with." the leader of the kekunan clan spoke after.
you just smiled to yourself, already knowing who you would choose. still, before you could do anything, you noticed tiny eyes peaking at you behind the tawkami' olo'eyktans leg.
she gasped softly, "anuk?"
the second the boy heard her call his name, he rushed over to her, engulfing her in the tightest hug he could give.
"hi my little warrior, how are you? oh my you've gotten so big." you asked, scooping him up and hugging him to your chest. he hasn't actually gotten that much bigger. it was only about a few inches, but to na'vi, growth is growth.
"i miss you koa..." was all the boy could whisper. "well you are with me now, anu', okay? let's enjoy our time together." you said as you tried to set the boy on the floor, but he only clung to you tighter.
"anuk, baby you have to let go, just for now, only for the mating ceremony. then i'll come find you after okay?" the boy whined and shook his head, hiding his face in your neck.
you sighed, knowing it was hard for him to be away from the only person who helped him heal from losing his sister, so you just held him tighter
"ma koa, we have to get going soon or the village will think you got cold feet." ronal reminded her soon to be daughter in law.
with that being said, the tawkami olo'eyktan spoke up, “i'm so sorry, koa, anuk, you have to let her go. it is her special day-" he reached for his son, but the boy shied away.
"no he's okay, sir." you reassured as you held the boy in your arms.
"my poor boy. okay, come on." you said as you turned to your mothers, sisters, and the clan leaders with your head held high. this was the happiest anyone in the room had ever seen you.
"i'm ready," you said.
Tumblr media
you walked towards ao’nung while holding anuk in your arms. ao’nung, kneeling in front of the metkayinian tree of voices, couldn’t help but let his mind wonder about you having his kids and starting a family with him. you guys had been trying for a baby for a while, but it was like luck wasn’t on your side.
seeing his mate-to-be holding a child was attractive, to say the least, but he quickly brought himself out of those thoughts and refocused on the love of his life.
behind you stood eight olo’eyktans—one from each clan you visited along your journey.
the anurai clan
the tawkami clan
the kekunan clan
the hulanta clan
the li’ona clan
the ni’awve clan
the olangi clan
and the rey’tanu clan
the clan leaders always found you out in the world, taking you in and giving you shelter and a home. which is why having them hand you off meant too much to you. they all treated you as if you were their daughter and never failed to make you feel at home no matter which clan you were in. but this, the metkayina clan, is where you want your forever home to be, and in the next few minutes it will be your forever home.
finally, when you got to where ao’nung was standing, you turned to your clan leaders and, untraditionally, hugged them. it only took a few seconds for them to reciprocate it, but eventually, it was one big group hug, and all you could say was a small “thank you.” after releasing from the hug, she still acknowledged them with the “i see you” gesture.
anuk allowed himself to be set on the ground, motioning “i see you” to you. it warmed your heart, so you mirrored his actions. the boy then walks over to his father, and the ceremony begins. you sit on your knees facing ao’nung, and once you settle, every na’vi present kneels along with the both of you as they prepare to watch your ceremony.
all eyes were on you and ao’nung, and for a second, you remembered the 15-year-old who dreamed of this moment. although it isn’t with who you dreamed it would be, you would argue that the way things are now is better than any dream you’ve ever had.
you and ao’nung didn’t break eye contact the entire ceremony. jake gave the speech about two young adults becoming one, and after what felt like the longest speech ever, it finally came time for you to create your tsaheylu. all nine clans went silent so the you both could have your moment.
there was not a sound in the sky or a splash in the water. it was almost as if eywa had silenced all of the nature around you. she wanted you two to focus on each other and not on any of the sounds around you.
the moment couldn’t have been more perfect. you reminded yourself to thank jake for mixing in some earthy wedding aspects to the mating ceremony, but you quickly regained focus, bringing your queue to your front. ao’nung mirrored your action, and you both held up the ends of your braid, watching the tendrils entangle. you released a soft gasp, and suddenly, your senses went through the roof.
you can feel each other’s feelings
you can hear each other’s thoughts
you could feel each other’s heartbeat
listening to your heartbeat was like music to ao’nungs ears, but as he listened a little bit harder, he noticed something. he reminded himself to bring it up to you after the ceremony when you both are alone in your marui pod
you and ao’nung are now mated for life, and you couldn’t recall a happier moment.
once the tsaheylu was created, both parties were given a few seconds to calm down. you opened your eyes, not even realizing that you closed them, and everything seemed to go in slow motion. you felt as if your world had stopped for a second. you and ao’nung were the only two things registering in your brain right now.
ao’nung, who was just as breathless as you, asked, “my mate, can i please kiss you?” bringing his hands to cup your cheeks.
you didn’t even respond. all you did was throw your arms around his neck to bring your mate into a kiss, and ao’nung wrapped his arms around your waist as he returned the kiss.
the clans erupted into cheers and cries of joy for the two of you. it seemed as if nature, the wind, the waters, and even the animals were cheering you on.
eywa was giving you a chance to soak at this moment because your life will never be the same from here on out.
and in your opinion, that’s a good thing
Tumblr media
it was only a matter of minutes before you and ao’nung managed to slip away from the ceremony, finally having a moment of privacy
a moment to yourselves.
as you were still bonded with one another, it wasn’t hard for ao’nung to remember what he reminded himself to tell you during the ceremony.
you sensed a slight shift in ao’nungs emotions, but you couldn’t pinpoint the feeling.
“ma koa, there is something i want to tell you.” your mate said.
you were curious, allowing him to continue without interruptions.
“i noticed something during the ceremony,” he began, and the way he spoke was starting to sound like he was having doubts about mating with you. before you could drown, ao’nung sensed the heavy shift in your emotions and immediately began to reassure you.
“koa, it is nothing bad. i am in love with you and i wouldn't want anyone else as my mate okay? that is not, at all, what this is about.”
“then what is this about” was the first thing you had said to him since you two got to this private area.
“i heard something different about your heartbeat.” he said
you were confused. “i do not feel like anything is wrong, i mean my heart is beating fast but that is only because i am with you, my ao’,” you explained to your mate.
“That is not it. princess, there are two heartbeats… it is faint, but i am sure i can hear it.” ao’nung breathed.
you look at your lover to see him tearing up.
“wha… you don’t mean….” it finally clicked for you.
your mate hears two heartbeats in you, so that must mean…
“i’m pregnant.” the words were barely a whisper.
and then you were screaming out in joy, bringing your mate into the tightest hug you could muster as he reciprocated with just as much energy.
“let’s go to my mother to confirm,” your mate said, pulling you up as you both ran back to the village.
rushing through the crowd, you finally found ronal, and you couldn’t contain your excitement.
“I'M PREGNANT!!” you shouted, and it was as if everyone had heard you because everything seemed to pause. the music, the dancing, the singing, the chatting amongst each other. everything stopped.
“is this true?,'' ronal questioned ao’nung, looking down at their connected queues.
“we were hoping you could confirm it mother,”
“come quickly,” ronal took the two of you to her marui pod so she could check if what her son and his mate were saying was true.
it was only five minutes until you three emerged.
“it has been confirmed. koa is pregnant.” ronal announced, and once again, the clans erupted into cheers and celebration, and honestly, it felt as if it was even louder this time around. Everyone rejoiced, if this day could get any better, it just did.
since you weren’t fortunate enough to have a good family growing up, you wanted to ensure that your child had the most loving, caring family imaginable. as you looked around, though, at all the na’vi mingling around the island, all the different clans joined together; you knew your child would undoubtedly have the best family anyone could ask for.

Keep Me Ablaze
Jake Sully x Neytiri x Fem!Reader
—-
a/n: i hope you all enjoy!!
warnings: like maybe some slight bullying? tell me if i missed anything!!
Chapter Two- Savior
—-
“First day of school! How are you feeling?”
You sigh at Grace’s words, already tired from waking up so early.
“Wanna sleep,” you murmur, and she frowns, eyes bright and picks you up. When she’s in her Avatar, like this, you’re practically a feather to her.
“Well, it’s not like school you normally do. You’re just gonna play, help some kids your age learn English. No math, I promise.” When you don’t perk up, she sighs, digs her fingers into your side. “There. There’s that smile, yeah?”
—-
“Grace,” you say, tugging on her shorts, and she simply smiles and places her hand on your head.
“It’ll be fine, baby, relax,” she soothes, but you’re young and scared of newness, so you tug on her anyways. Her hand is comforting, her scent, but you still want to be high up in her arms. No one can reach you when you’re up there.
“Grace! Grace!” the children chant as she walks in, and even through she said that they’re your age, they still tower above you. You feel small, like you’re nothing. Like whatever fire inside of you Aunt Grace says you have is nothing more than an ember.
She told you you’re a wildfire. And maybe you are, but you don’t feel like it.
She greets them in Na’vi, a langage which you know very little of, but enough to make it out. “Hi, hi, how are you?” she laughs as the children reach out to grab her, touch her hair, her clothes, anything.
She hasn’t seen them in weeks- something about tensions, you had heard, before she spotted you trying to hide behind the wall and ushering you out.
Tensions, but what? Grace says you’re too young. But you still want to know. She blames herself for your curiousness, says you got it from her.
Augustine’s are a blessing and a curse, she would say.
Eventually, the children calm down from the excitement, and Grace turns to you.
“Come on out,” she taunts, drawing you out from behind her. “This is my niece, Y/N. Now, she’s the same age as you, but you have to remember to be very careful when you play with her, hm?”
All of the children look at you, some accusatorially, some the same way they looked at Grace. They’re not scared of newness. They’re not like you.
You smile, even though you don’t mean it, until Grace is pulled away to talk to another adult and all of the children go back to playing. The school is simple, one room in a small building, carpet and posters on the wall. Bookshelves on the far side- where one of the lights is dim, casting a shadow, and you find yourself gravitating towards it.
All of the Na’vi children are too engrossed in their own games to notice you, a tiny little human, so you sit and lean against the bookshelf anyways. You sigh, until you look up.
A girl sits just near you, eyes wide like yours, behind the large chair.
You gasp, and hope she doesn’t feel offended, but she seems as surprised as you.
“Sorry,” you say, calming your racing heart. “I can- I can go.”
You see her chest rise and fall, fast, but her face doesn’t betray anything.
“No, it’s fine,” she whispers.
“I’m- I’m Y/N. Grace is my aunt.”
She stifles a laugh. “Your Na’vi bad,” she says in English, and you smile and laugh yourself. She frowns, thinks over her words. “Is bad. Your Na’vi is bad.”
You nod, and she smiles to herself, seemingly proud.
“I- I am Neytiri.”
“Hi, Neytiri,” you say, in Na’vi, and she laughs at your pronunciation.
—-
“You’re a human.”
You look up from your coloring book, red pencil dropping to the table, eyes meeting with the Na’vi boy in front of you.
“Yes?” you say, although it sounds more like a question.
“My father says the humans are skawngs.”
“Okay?” you mumble, tucking your chin to your chest, wishing someone would save you. A door to open. A star to fall.
You knew that some of the kids would taunt you- but had you truly done anything other than be born into the wrong body?
When Neytiri sits next to you, it’s not a surprise. The two of you gravitate towards each other, have similar flames. You burn the same way.
What is surprising is the force which she slams the box of crayons down with.
You look up, eyes wide, only to find her staring down the boy in front of her, one hand on the box and the other digging into the table.
“Go away,” she hisses, a break of pure rage in between her words.
The boy scoffs, and she tilts her head. Taunting him, challenging him. He falters, but covers it up with a mumble about how it wasn’t that big of a deal and walking away with his friends trailing behind.
She pulls out the chair next to you, a noticeable difference from where she was sitting across from you before, you you choose not to mention it. Her eyes are still stuck on the group of boys in the corner, daring them.
“Thank you, Neytiri,” you say, because Grace was always adamant that you had good manners. She has good manners too, she just didn’t use them all the time.
“It is nothing,” she says, picking up a green crayon.
“You saved me,” you joke. She stops, and you can’t even look down to see what she’s drawing because her eyes are staring so deeply into yours.
“It is nothing,” she repeats, almost as if she would do more for you.
—-
“Come on, Y/N,” Neytiri pleads, tugging you along.
“I’m going as fast as I can,” you hiss, and she shoots you a look over her shoulder.
“Lying.”
“‘M not!”
She smiles and rolls her eyes playfully, and you scoff.
She leads you deeper and further into the forest, and if you were with anyone else, or by yourself, you would be scared. But it’s Neytiri. She would never hurt you.
“Where are you even taking me again?” you grumble, and Neytiri looks over her shoulder again.
“You will like it!” she exclaims. “Promise.”
Even so far away from Hometree, from Grace, you know nothing will happen to you with Neytiri here. She has always saved you, whether it be from a falling book or from a mean Na’vi boy at the school.
You don’t know why. She says you have a strong heart, that your fire burns bright.
That’s all anyone has told you all your life. That whatever fire is inside of you, inside of everyone, it bruns bright. It burns like a wildfire.
But you don’t feel that way.
Neytiri points to a tree just off the path. “You see that? I know that tree. It means we’re close.”
“To what?”
“You will see!”
The foliage is thick and overwhelming, hanging over you and crushing you in. Neytiri’s hand slips from your wrists, fingers melding with you own. She tugs you up the path, closer, next to her, a bright smile on her face.
Finally, the plants seem to start to thin, lean another way, until Neytiri guides you around a large grey rock and you see it.
“It’s beautiful!” you gasp, walking forward to lean in front of the water, dip your fingers in, ruin the stillness.
“Look,” Neytiri guides, and you follow her hand to the patch of flowers growing, hanging over the edge. They look over it like something sad, something vain, always needing to see the reflection. “They only grow by ponds, like this-” she continues.
“Aunt Grace doesn’t have this one in her book.”
You lean forward, thumb the velvet soft petal.
“Her book?”
“She has a book, all about the different plants on Pandora. I’ve read it front to back- this one isn’t in it.”
“Oh, I see.” Neytiri mumbles, crouching down next to you. She touches the flower too, fingertips pulling down on edge of it. It’s a blue flower, fading right into the blue of Neytiri. But it’s decorated with little white spots, like the stars on her face.
“It looks like you.”
You look toward her, only to see her staring at the flower accusingly. “Like me?”
You bite back your laugh. “Yeah, you see?” You grab her hand, unfurl her palm and place it under the edge of the petal. She blends right into it.
“Oh,” she smiles, “you’re right. And- the little white dots, just like my stars?”
“Yeah!” you smile, turning back to the water after seeing something move out of the corner of your eye.
She tells you what kind of fish live in this pond, but her eyes keeps going back to the flower.
It’s silent, for a minute, just the two of you in the midst of everything.
“Y/N,” Neytiri asks, and when you turn she is sitting behind you, neck craned to look at the flower.
“Yes?” you say, and she turns to you.
“You never said. Do you- do you think that i- it’s pretty? The flower?”
“It’s beautiful,” you say with a smile, and she waits for a moment before smiling back.
—-
“Y/N?”
“Hi, Neytiri,” you smile, looking up from whatever you were doing- now long forgotten.
“How are you?” you smile at her question, because she only says that when she’s nervous.
You tilt your head to the side, and she sighs.
“Okay. I- I have something for you?”
Your heart skips a beat and you feel like you’re being consumed by the fire that roars inside you.
“A gift?”
“Your- your book,” she starts, sitting down next to you on the floor, your knees touching, her hand behind her back. “The one about the plants? The flowers? This one…” she moves her hand out from behind her back, “is from high on the mountains. Where the humans aren’t allowed. I thought-”
She trails off, looking at you oddly, but your eyes are fixed on the soft pink flower in front of you. It looks like something from earth- a tulip, maybe, not like something from Pandora. Isn’t that amazing? That some things like that can surpass the universe? Simple, soft beauty like that.
“Y-Y/N?”
“Ah!” you shout, finally coming to your senses, leaning forward to wrap your arms around her shoulders.
She’s still for a second, silent, until she lets out a small laugh, one arm carefully wrapping around your waist.
When you pull back, on your knees now to even reach her height, she smiles and hands you the flower.
You grin up at her before looking down, entranced by the flower. Your hair falls out from behind your ears, but Neytiri is quick to push it back.
She looks at you like you are the most beautiful fire, swirling and raging like a storm, held back by nothing but your own will.
“My human,” she says, not knowing this will be the last time she’ll see you burn like this for years.

Eywa’s Child pt.I || neteyam x omatikaya!fem reader
❃content warning; mild violence, corruption, angst
❃author’s note; this will only have like three parts(?) I think, I follow the series of events of the movie but not the plot. I will be tweaking some things. Also, writing the part 5 of my ‘Need you close to me’ series so please look forward to it!🤍 Can I also have your opinions and feedback guys? It will help me so much to my writing!
2.1k words ( I honestly thought I was over 3k but guess not🤣)
part 2 , part 3
Your father and mother knew the moment you were born that you are a gift from Eywa her self to them, it took them many years to conceive a another child. As you grow up, you are showered with so much love from your parents and older brother. Treating you with so much care that you became ignorant of the things around you. With your older brother always defending you with the other na’vi kids but when Jake Sully’s kids came into the frame, seeing them as they are free to do whatever they want. It led you to kept secrets from your family, always trailing behind from the Sully siblings. You always found yourself enjoying the forest, away from the siblings but you noted on your mind that you’ll come back here, remembering the paths they took.
Unaware of the young boy who have noticed you the first time you trailed behind his siblings, not wanting to be notice by you or his siblings, he trailed behind. Seeing how your eyes shine with curiosity and happiness discovering new places which he knew that his siblings have gone to many times, it made him happy. Your smiles never fails to tug on his heart, he would watch you from behind a tree as you take in the new place you have found. It has become his hobby on to follow you, as if you became one of his duties. His gut feeling always tells him to follow you, that if his eyes doesn’t see your frame, he would panic.
One night, you snuck out from your family’s hut. Your eyes scanning the area and when you confirm there’s no one else, you took off. Excited to have the place the Sully siblings have gone to, all to yours. Your envy was eating you up as you watch them play with the water while ago and you know for yourself that if you don’t go, you wouldn’t be able to sleep. While climbing at one of the Hallelujah Mountains, you heard voices. Afraid to be seen, you hid behind a bush and saw the Olo’eyktan and his mate.
You have always love the way they look at each other, the way their hands holds each other, the way they love each other. But as a child you didn’t have time to witness their time, to be dreaming about it. You were about to go and continue to your little trip, you step on a branch making a loud noise as it break into half. The night sky is silent and that the tiniest sound can be heard, it didn’t escape the Olo’eyktan’s ears.
“Who’s there?”
You bit your lip and saw them land on the spot you were in, your gaze drops on the Olo’eyktan’s hand as he grab his knife and you immediately jump out to show yourself. Afraid they will mistake you as an enemy. They immediately recognize you, who wouldn’t? Your family is of great warriors. Your tail wrap around your right leg as you fiddled with your fingers.
“Evi..”
You look at them and chanted behind your head they won’t take you home or atleast tell your parents. You clasp your hands together and held the couple’s hands. Taken back at what you just did, they both look into your eyes as if they were entrance with your pair of golden orbs
“Please don’t tell my parents and older brother about this. I promise I’ll come back as soon I’m done.”
The olo’eyktan looked at his wife and nodded at her, as if telling her that she’s good at handling kids. His mate, Neytiri, smiled at you and crouch down to be at your level, well atleast, your head tilt a little bit downward she caress your cheeks. She just knows how your parents took great care for you, your skin soft as a petal of a flower. Your pair of gold orbs that seems to pull anyone who looked into it
“My child, it is late at night. Your parents will be worried sick if they found out you are not with them”
You look away from her gaze and you know for yourself that if you go home now, it’ll be hard to sneak out. Although the thought of your parents and brother’s worried face cross to your mind. You let out a sigh and flash a sweet smile to Neytiri, you place your hand over hers and decided you will just visit some another time, you don’t want to have a bad image to the olo’eyktan
“Come kid, we’ll take you home” you shook your head making the olo’eyktan look at you with questioning eyes
“No sir, I got here on my own. I will go home alone. Don’t worry, I’ll go home straight away”
You saluted. You know what this gesture means, you often see their kids doing this and the whole lot of them would burst out into laughter. You heard Kiri, the second to oldest said that it means respect. Jake can’t help but just laugh and told you to not take detours and you knew better than to disobey the olo’eyktan’s orders.
That’s what you said but seeing the forest burn, the animals running for their life. You let out a gasp as you saw a bird got burn from the fire, your vision becomes blurry as you drop on your knees. Then you saw a ikran, screaming for help. It’s wings got stuck, you quickly stood up and tried to push the tree off and when you finally got it. The ikran immediately flew away and you decided to help the animals get away, you knew better than to disobey simple orders but you just can’t ignore the animals.
The fire spreads out rapidly as you run through the forest, making sure all the animals go to the same way. You were so into guiding them that you didn’t notice the thing loom over you, you only noticed it when a direhorse made a commotion and when you look back, your vision black out.
It has been hours now after the alarming commotion news that the sky people came back. Jake and Neytiri have gone back to the clan’s home and immediately woke everyone up, no time spared. Warriors directed the people as they all flee, Sully kids doing their best to assist their grandmother and the other people. Neteyam’s eyes scanned the surrounding and never saw your silhouette. Another hour passes and every people on the clan is watching their forest home, burn into dust.
Up from the Hallelujah Mountains, they all gathered mourn to everything they lost. Slowly they started to settle down, family embracing each other. Jake was about to gather his family and tell them that everything is going to be fine but it seems not
“Jake! Have you seen our daughter?”
Your mother called out and held his hands, his head whipped to the side where Neytiri is standing and her eyes is widened with horror
“We thought we just lost her to the crowd but no! She’s gone! My kid is gone!”
Jake catching your mother as she fell into her knees, he saw you father and brother land and made their way towards them. He suck up a breathe as he can feel the rage of your father
“The sky people must have taken my daughter! We must go at war!”
Your father screamed and in a second all the clan is cheering and gathering their weapon, with your brother leading the people. As the olo’eyktan, Jake raised his voice so all of them are gonna listen to him
“Listen! The sky people don’t play games! We need to have a secure, a well planned strategy. We can’t just sprint there! We’ll die before we get to hunt them down!”
He looked at his people and all of them went silent, they know how many lives were lost. Still, they can’t turn back an eye when a fellow clan member is taken. Your mother, known as a mighty warrior can’t stop crying, your father comforting her and your brother stood in silence as they all shared the feeling of lost.
One night. ONE NIGHT. Neteyam grit his teeth and march away as he slam his hand against the stone. If only he agreed to keep watch at night, if he only knew you were going to sneak out. If you guys are close! This wouldn’t have happened! He would protect you with his life! Sensing her brother’s anger, Tuk went beside him and held his hand
“I just know that Y/N wouldn’t like seeing you getting hurt”
The young Sully knows you, her always wandering eyes couldn’t help but notice the way you would look at them. Especially the look you give to her older brother. Neteyam shook his head and hug his sister, that night. He swore that the moment he will find you, he’ll surely bring you back, no matter what it takes.
A year later
“Hurry!”
Neteyam shouted to Lo’ak, Kiri and Tuk as the four of them ran towards where Spider fell. They encountered avatars that they have never seen, one things for sure, those people don’t bring any good news. Tuk screams the human’s boy name and aall of them quickly jog towards him. They were about to run when they heard a gun click. Slowly they turned their heads and saw a figure pointing a gun at them. The person is wearing the same gear the avatars are wearing but it was smaller as if they were the same age
“Don’t move”
Neteyam whispered and everyone nodded. Tuk hid behind her brother, her scared eyes looked up and for a moment she caught a glimpse of who the person is and her mouth immediately open
“Y/N?”
They all froze as you hiss and held your face high. The same golden orbs, they know it’s you. But who are you? Who is this person standing in front of them? Gone the life of your eyes, you look at them with disgust and hatred.
“It’s us! Sully kids, remember? Olo’eyktan J—“
“Shut up. I don’t remember meeting such fools.”
Your voice is like a venom, your words lace with hatred. Neteyam felt his heart crack, where was the girl he fell in love with? What happened to you? What did they to you? The thought of you suffering to the sky people’s arms made his boil blood
“Drop the human or get caught together with him. Your choice”
You shot and made the bullet graze the skin of Neteyam, he hiss at the pain making him drop Spider. You grin and shot again but this time, you shot behind them. Clicking your tongue with annoyance.
“Come out. I know you’re in there”
Neytiri felt her breath hitch ‘how did you know?’ is the question she ask her self as she step out into hiding. Putting her bow away she raise her hands, one wrong move would mean you would shot at her kids.
“I got the human boy.”
You said over the comms and immediately walk towards Spider and drag him away from them. You saw in their eyes that all of them look at you with sorrow. You let out a scoff and grab the knife on one of the pockets on your pants as you immediately turn around, blocking the knife of a bigher na’vi
“Dad!” Tuk rejoice seeing her dad as he got a good strong hold of you
“Snap out of it Y/N! You’re parents have been sea—“
“Parents? Don’t make me laugh!”
You raise your left foot and swing it forward but Jake grab it and you landed on your back as he kick the knife away from your hand but before he could knock you out, he was kick on the side with so much force the he cough up blood
“Didn’t think our meeting will be this quick again, Sully”
Jake glared at his long time enemy, Quaritch, Neytiri immediately grab her bow but before she can hit your colonel, you rolled to your side and throw the knife at her direction, luckily she was able to dodge, a rope drop down and you quickly latch yourself to it. Quaritch putting Spider at his back, together with the other avatars. All of you got back to the ship and immediately left the scene, you sat down letting out a sigh as you massage your forehead
“Nice skills you got there, buttercup”
You rolled your eyes and flip him as you cross your legs. You are a full born Na’vi, Pandora is where you were born, Eywa is your great mother. Your parents and brother was your greatest treasure but all of it were thrown away the moment they left you at the forest in order to save themselves. To save themselves of the shame when they had you. You weren’t a gift from Eywa. You are a curse child and you will show them your rage.
And that’s how the sky people corrupted your mind just like how they corrupted the Pandora.

Tw: blaming a child, mental Illness, reader has long hair, angst but also fluff
Author’s note: I didn’t really have much in mind, I just worked with whatever I had in mind. I kind of feel like I’m not putting much effort on my work on the past few days. I may need a break, but at the same time I don’t want to leave anyone hanging.
P.s. I’ll make a part two of this, but I'll be a fic instead of headcanon.
Masterlist
A Jinx, that’s how everyone saw you, a goddamn Jinx. It all started when you were, just like Spider you stayed behind while your parents were sent away. Growing up you had got into trouble, well you and Spider would get in trouble together but you’d always be the one to blame for everything. That was when everyone in the lab began to call you a Jinx, that you jinxed everything you were involved in. Some would say it was just teasing, but that teasing becomes to much at times. You had a huge interest in inventing things, whether it were small or big inventions you would put your heart and soul into your projects. At the beginning you just worked on smoke and paint bombs just for fun, but the older you got the bigger the inventions got.
What did it was when you had ran off into the forest to clear your head from everything, also to find some samples for the scientists who needed them. What you didn’t know was when a Thanator had spotted you and had decided to make you their next meal. Luckily for you their was a scientist near by and witnessed what was happening. They went over to save you, by basically getting themselves killed.  When the people from the lab had found out, they blamed you for what happened even though it was an accident. You cried and told them that you just wanted to help, but they did not want to hear it. You then weren’t sent to you room and stayed in there for the rest of the day. Your thoughts had been basically screaming at you and chanting Jinx over and over. That night you stayed up all night, with no sleep, just thinking about everything and what everyone has said to you. You longer went by your original name, you began to go by Jinx since that is what everyone sees you as a Jinx.
Well everyone accept for Norm, Max, Spider and the Sully kids. Those people actually saw that saw you as a human and not a burden.
They actually cared about you and how you felt, but your thoughts were to big that you had told them to stop calling you by your real name since you went by Jinx now.
It hurt them seen that the other’s words had really got to you that you had basically changed your name into that horrible nickname.
You and Lo’ak were close from the start, you two felt as if you weren’t doing enough with yourselves and whatever little effort is not seen by anyone.
You’d always tell and show Lo’ak your work before anyone, you like to hear his thought and opinions on your work, he’d also tell you some ideas and things you could add to your work. You’d considered him a brother.
Kiri was like a sister to you, she cares a lot about you since she knows that you’re suffering in silence and nobody seems to hear you but her.
She could just read you by looking at you, she basically knew what was on your mind and she is always there to listen to you, or just keep you company if you do not wish to talk.
Neteyam also knew about your issues, he really wants you to be okay because you’re his friend, it also pissed him off when others called you Jinx, he knew what it meant when you’d get called that but you’d often tell him that it was okay. It was not okay with him.
Just like Lo’ak, Tuk would also be involved on your projects. She’d often ask if you could make her smoke or paint bombs so that she could use on her brothers and you would since it was harmless fun.
All the Sully kids were allowed to call you by your real name, Spider had tried but you nearly strangled him since he’d also be involved in the ‘teasing’ with the rest of the scientists.
The bombs were normally kid friendly when you’d make them for her. She liked it when you use the colors hot pink and teal.
You had also made some for Jake and Neytiri for any kind of event of some kind, even if they didn’t need them or want them, Jake would take them and use them.
Then you began to dye your hair with bright colors, you’d often ask Tuk or Kiri what color should you go next, majority of the time it’d be either a teal blue or a hot pink just like the paint and smoke bombs you’d make.
You’d also let Tuk braid your hair however she felt like doing it, even better since it was very long that it reached your feet. You never were the type to cut your hair.
Tuk and you would often be spotted together, playing with one another. It didn’t matter what you would play, you’d play for hours and hours non stop. It could be hide and seek, Tag, or you’d use a paint guns that you had made.
You had also given her a stuffed animal bunny that you had since you were younger.
Tuk reminded you of yourself when you were her age, she was innocent just like you at that age when the whole Jinx name began. You wouldn’t want her to go through what you did.
Neytiri isn’t a huge fan of humans, but you? You were different, yes you’re a human but yet, you had been damaged by your kind. This made her loose even more faith in humanity.
She hated seeing how a bunch of grown humans blamed a child on an accident that could’ve happened to anyone.

Part 1
The eclipse just ended. The setting light colored the glade where the tree of souls stood orange-red. Jake Sully stood before the crowd, adorned with the olo'ektan's feather sickle. His wife, Neytiri, stood to one side, along with the shaman Mo'at. She had started the ceremony with big words. You sat in the front row next to your friends the Sully kids and Spider. Jake, the Omatikaya clan leader raised a hand. "My friends! My brothers, sisters! Another year is behind us. Another year that we were allowed to live in Eywa's balance." Jake looked meaningfully down at the crowd. As his gaze wandered over Norm, he nodded to him.
"Tonight we thank her for all gifts. For the sun and the moons. For the rain that makes the earth fertile. And for our people. We lost a beloved brother. But we also gained two sisters!" He pointed to a woman with twins in her arms. She smiled happily. "To another fruitful year! Let the great mother's ceremony begin!"
The Great Mother's ceremony was like a celebration of gratitude for Eywa. It marked the start of a new year for the Omatikaya. There was always an extensive celebration with lots of music and wild dancing. At least that's what Lo'ak and Neteyam told you. For you, it was the first ceremony here among the Na'vi.
After Jake finished his speech, the crowd dispersed. Drums and musical instruments echoed across the clearing, soon joined by shamanic chanting. Jake was chatting with Norm and some of his old scientist friends, who were invited to the party. Suddenly Lo'ak jumped up next to you. "Come on!" He pulled you up and together you guys ran through the forest. The area around the Tree of Souls was decorated with lights. Torches stuck in the earth and decorations of feathers swayed gently in the wind.
It was getting really dark now. But luckily your avatar eyes quickly adjusted to the darkness. Together with your friends, you went to one of the large clearings nearby. Na'vi's were standing at the edge distributing food and drinks. In the middle of the square, people were dancing to the music. You saw a group of young people handing out little things that the Na'vi popped into their mouths, laughing. As you got closer, you saw that they were glowing insects. Blue and green glowing worms and caterpillars. You shook yourself in disgust. But Lo'ak seemed quite enthusiastic.
"Hey, let's do that too, folks!" Spider looks at him skeptically. "Are those those hallucinogenic bugs?"
"Yes!" Lo'ak exclaimed enthusiastically. Neteyam grabbed his arm decisively. "No way! Did you hear?"
"Man, Bro!" protested the younger offended. "Let's have some fun!"
And now you understood what it was about. Drugs. Eating these insects had to be similar to eating hallucinogenic mushrooms. "Lo'ak, cut that shit," said Kiri, who was holding Tuk's hand. Lo'ak rolled his eyes in annoyance. "By Eywa. You're spoilsports!"
But he was soon distracted by the fire show in the center of the square. A few Na'vi danced across the glade with torches, twirling them in elaborate tricks. There were even two fire breathers. Tuk's eyes widened with excitement and you had to hold back your laughter. When the show was over, more and more Omatikaya were drawn to the clearing. They all danced wildly and you guys soon found ourselves dancing too.
Neteyam once tried to teach you the folk dances of the people. You had already forgotten most of it and  everyone danced as they wanted anyways. Took and Kiri had grabbed each others hands and were spinning around. Spider jumped around, his  his dreadlocks bounced and Lo'ak danced happily around us. You tried to move to the drumming music. But you kept bumping into Neteyam, and that threw you off balance.
You had quite a crush on him. For long time now. But he only seemed to see you as his best friend, so you hadn't dared to tell him until now. Besides, you had recently seen him with a girl from the village. They had only talked, but they seemed intimate in a way you would never be with him. You were an avatar after all. They accepted you, and of course they liked you. But you  would never quite be one of them.
Eventually, Tuk got tired and Kiri picked her up. "I think I'd better take her home," she said. Took yawned heartily. The two disappeared into the forest. You danced a little more until finally Lo'ak saw his friends. His face lit up and he waved to the crowd. Three guys emerged from the crowd and approached us.
"Hey bro!" They greeted Lo'ak with a grin. "Hi guys!"
You had only seen Lo'ak's friends once. He often hung out with them when his siblings were getting on his nerves. They all held carved wooden cups in their hands, filled with a purple glowing liquid. "Hello Neteyam," the tallest of them nodded in greeting to Neteyam. They were all three about Lo'ak's age. The tallest of them had shoulder-length braids, while one of his friends had his hair pulled up in a bun. The third guy had dreadlocks, just like Jake.
"Where did you leave Kiri?" the boy with the dreads asked. Lo'ak shrugged. "She brings home Tuk."
"Ah. Well, it's probably for the best if she's not there, she doesn't like us anyway." The guy with the bun laughed.
"Where did you get that?" Lo'ak gestured at the mugs. The dreadlock guy pointed across the clearing. "Put them out there. You should hurry, otherwise everything will be empty."
Lo'ak's eyes widened. "Come on guys!", he said to you , Spider and Neteyam. Together you walked over to where a couple of Na'vi were sitting around a cooking area. The purple liquid floated in a large cauldron. Less than two seconds later, you got handed a mug. The drink smelled sweet, like berries and you glanced at Neteyam questioningly.
"What is that?"
"Teylu-Nectar," he replied, which didn't make you any the wiser. But he drank it without hesitation, so you assumed it was safe. Probably something like alcohol. It definitely tasted super fruity and sweet.
You danced for a while. Lo'ak and his friends drank one cup after the other and the mood grew more and more exuberant. You also felt lighter and lighter and you danced happily with Neteyam, who had only drunk one cup. Lo'ak and Spider chatted animatedly with the boys. Then suddenly, the taller one came over to you. He smiled charmingly.
"Hi. I'm Rungatya."
"Hi," you smiled back. His gaze wandered unashamedly over your body. No one had ever looked at you like that before and you felt heat rising inside you. But it wasn't uncomfortable. That's when you noticed Neteyam stepping closer. His hand gently touched your arm. Rungatya registered it but left it uncommented. He looked at Neteyam.
"Won't you get us something else to drink?", he asked. Neteyam frowned. "Don't you think you've had enough already?" He looked over at Lo'ak and Spider, who were laughing themselves half to death. Rungatya waved him off with a laugh. "Oh, we've only just started having fun! Come on big brother. Forget your duties for a night. I'll take care of her for the time being."
Neteyam struggled, but he also didn't want to look stupid in front of Lo'ak's friends. He looked at you, doubtfully. You just shrugged, signaling that it would be okay. "Fine, I'll be right back," Neteyam grumbled and left. Rungatya laughed, shaking his head.
"He always only has his obligations on his mind. Instead of having a bit of fun!"
You faked a smile. Because you didn't think it was very nice that he had chased Neteyam away, even though he could get some drinks himself.
While you two waited for Neteyam and the drinks, you chatted with Rungatya. He was nice and charming. A bit brash sometimes, but your head was so already dazed from the drinks that you didn't really notice it. You also didn't notice that he accidentally touched you. And you suddenly realized that Neteyam had been gone for quite a while. Rungatya seemed to notice that too. He looked across the clearing, then at Lo'ak and the others.
"Neteyam is long gone"
"Hmm," you said approvingly. Where was he? He hadn't left you here, had he? But no, Neteyam would never do that. Rungatya put a hand on your arm, like you guys were old friends. "Would you like to go for a short walk? I need a bit of distance from the people here. Besides, there is a beautiful tree nearby that I have to show you." You looked at him doubtfully. "But Nete-"
"Oh, he'll be fine. Come on!" He grabbed your hand and pulled you  along. The two of you left the clearing and festivities behind and disappeared into the forest. A few torches lit the way, but then it got darker and darker. Only the fluorescent plants gave us light.
Eventually, you came to a small clearing with a wide tree. It had no leaves but vines and tendrils that snaked down from the crown almost to the ground. Similar to weeping willows that used to grow on earth. The tendrils formed a curtain around the tree. Rungatya pushed them aside and you stood under the thick trunk of the tree. It was like a little cave in here. Luminous insects buzzed in the air and lit up the night. It was breathtaking.
"Wow!" you went. Rungatya laughed. "And Neteyam really never showed you this place? I can't believe it!"
You shook your head and spinned around. "It is wonderful here!"
Suddenly something stopped you from spinning. Rungatya had grabbed your hand. He came closer and a smile appeared on his lips. "I see something else beautiful here." If Na'vi could blush, you would right now. You smiled shyly at him. He was handsome. Tall, and his muscles well defined. His smile was open and friendly. If you hadn't a crush on Neteyam, you might have even considered him. But in your mind  was no room for anyone but Neteyam.
Rungatya came closer and took both of your hands. You could smell his scent. His yellow eyes met yours, trying to figure out what you were thinking.
Suddenly there was a loud screeching from the forest. Not too far away at all. You both winced.
You looked at Rungatya, startled. "What was that?" But he put a reassuring hand on your shoulder and stepped closer, protectively. "Only animals. Don't worry"
...
Grumbling, Neteyam ran back with the drinks. Why did Dad have to stop him now? Jake had entered the glade, just as Neteyam was getting the drinks. Neteyam had only wanted to tell him briefly that Kiri was taking Tuk home, but his dad immediately engaged him in a conversation about responsibility and how, as the eldest, he had to look after his siblings, when he saw the drinks.
Neteyam just had rolled his eyes. It didn't matter now! He wanted to go back to Y/N. He had seen Rungatya eyeing her. How his eyes had scanned her body. And he hated it! He had never liked Lo'ak friends. They made even more nonsense than Lo'ak alone did. And that they now also had their eye on Y/N...
She was his best friend. Unfortunately. Neteyam wished she was more than that. He had been in love with her since she first came to them. Her avatar body was so beautiful and her smile brightened the day. Only he couldn't tell her. Couldn't tell her how he felt because that would destroy their friendship.
Lost in thoughts, Neteyam came back to the party with the drinks in his hands. It didn't take him long to find his friends in the crowd. Spider's human body stood out conspicuously through it. Lo'ak was right next to him, jumping wildly through the air. Neteyam sighed. He was drunk, it would be great tomorrow.
"Hey Brooo!" Lo'ak waved at Neteyam and put an arm around his shoulders. Then he saw the drinks in Neteyam's hands. "Oh more drinks! Thanks Bro." He grabbed a mug and emptied it in one gulp.
"Lo'ak," Neteyam hissed admonishingly. "What?"  his little brother laughed carelessly. His friends next to him gave Neteyam a friendly nudge on the shoulder. They too were already quite confused in the head. "Relax! We're having fun!" Neteyam sighed in resignation and looked around searchingly. Y/N was not there. Neither does Rungatya. He stood on tiptoe for a moment to get a better look. But nothing. Concerned, he turned to Spider. The only one you could still talk to normally around here.
"Hey Spider, did you see Y/N?"
Spider took a sip from his mug. He had to be careful, the Na'vi drinks affected his body much more than the Omatikaya's. Spider pointed to a spot in the forest. "They went there a few minutes ago."
Neteyam frowned. "Both? Did they say where they are going?" But Spider shook his head. "No. Sorry, bro" Neteyam looked at Lo'ak again. Then he made a decision.
"Take care of Lo'ak, yeah?" he asked Spider. "If it gets too much, take him home or tell Dad. I'll go find Y/N."
"Alright"
With that, Neteyam disappeared into the woods. He looked around, calling Y/N's name. But nothing. Cursing, he looked out into the night. Then his gaze fell on footprints in the ground. Neteyam grinned and followed them. He wasn't a good tracker for nothing. The tracks eventually left the path, but Neteyam continued to follow them.
Eventually, distant laughter reached his sensitive ears. His gaze wandered through the dark night and got stuck on the 'Cave Tree'. Long branches and lianas hung from the treetops to the ground. When Lo'ak and he were children they had discovered the tree and called it like that because it looked like a cave from the inside.
Were Y/N and Rungatya in there? A bitter feeling rose in him. Actually, he had wanted to show her that tree. Neteyam ignored his footsteps and startled a group of animals. They ran away, yelling loudly, through the undergrowth. Neteyam cursed and ducked behind the nearest tree. Great! Jake had repeatedly drummed into him to pay attention to his surroundings and his steps when hunting. And what did he do? Startled sleeping animals that made a hoot. Hopefully Y/N and Rungatya hadn't heard him.
...
Rungatya kept getting closer to you. His hand, still resting on your  shoulder, now traveled up to your cheek. Your heart beat faster, but you didn't move. "You're really beautiful," he said. "There's something exotic about you, I like that."
He tilted his head slightly and studied the stripes on your forehead. His ears twitched slightly. Then he leaned forward and placed his lips on yours. You froze. Rungatya let go of you when he realized you didn't reply. "I'm sorry."
You shook your head. Confused. "No, I mean..." Your mind raced. What the hell were you doing here? But then an idea came to you. Maybe you should kiss him back. Maybe it would be fun. And surely Rungatya would tell his friends and then Neteyam would find out. Maybe it would make him jealous.
Your foggy brain thought the idea was brilliant. You returned Rungatya's look sweetly. Then you put your lips on his. His lips tasted like the sweet juice from earlier. You felt him deepen the kiss immediately. He put his hands on your waist and gently, but firmly pushed you backwards until you hit the tree. Rungatya's fingers were warm against your skin. He parted his lips and his tongue found yours.
You put your hands on his cheeks. It felt nice but somehow something was missing. Rungatya pressed you gently against the tree and his kiss became more demanding. More quickly. His hands wandered over your body.
Suddenly it was too much for you. You tensed up and tried to duck away. But he grabbed your wrists and pinned them against the tree, above your head. His broad body shielded yours from the outside world, you couldn't get away. His tongue wandered around in your mouth and suddenly you felt nauseous. You turned your head away.
"Stop Rungatya." But that didn't seem to impress him. His right hand slid from your waist up your body, to the base of your breasts. Luckily you were wearing a woven top.
"Stop it!"
Your voice began to tremble and you panicked. That was too much. You didn't want any of that. Rungatya just laughed. "Relax baby!" But you didn't want to relax. You fidgeted, but he held you tight. His kiss was rough by now and he wedged his hips between your legs. His hand stroked the top and suddenly he ripped it off from you. His gaze wandered greedily over your exposed body. You were really panicking now. Just wanted to leave. And you were scared.
Rungatya grabbed your breasts and pressed tightly against you. You were about to call for help. Then you guys heard a scream and a few feet next to you, something heavy landed in the grass. Rungatya got the same fright as you did and abruptly let go of you.
...
Neteyam crouched on the thick branch and looked down at the two. Rungatya put a hand on her cheek and kissed her. Neteyam's ears flattened. How dare he!?
He almost jumped down from the tree and confronted him. But what happened next, surprised him so much that he forgot everything around him. Y/N kissed him back!
Completely confused and hurt, Neteyam looked down at the scene. When Rungatya Y/N walk pushed the tree, he clenched his fists. Jealousy burned like fire in his stomach. But Y/N's behavior hurt him so much more. It was as if she had stuck a knife in his heart. Suddenly something changed down there. Rungatya became more demanding. But Y/N didn't seem to take it anymore. She began to squirm and begged him to stop. But Rungatya just kept going. Hot anger welled up in Neteyam. Rungatya held her hands, so that she could not resist and tore off her clothes. Neteyam couldn't watch any longer. He had to help her!
"Hey!" he yelled loudly. He jumped from the tree, cushioned the fall with his knees, and drew the knife he always carried with him for emergencies. Neteyam pointed it furiously at Rungatya. "Keep your hands off her!" he hissed with hatred. Rungatya flinched. Took a few steps away from Y/N. Neteyam gave her a quick look. She looked scared, arms crossed over her chest.
Neteyam looked back at Rungatya, who now stood defiantly in front of him. He was drunk, Neteyam noticed.  Still, that didn't justify his behavior in the least. His ears fell back and he hissed at Neteyam fiercely.
He hissed back and raised the knife even higher. "Get out of here!"
He growled through clenched teeth. Rungatya hesitated, as if preparing to attack Neteyam. But then he took a few steps backwards. He glared hatefully at Neteyam.
"If you weren't the Olo'eyktan's son..." Ignoring the threat, he glanced at Y/N and then ran off. The branches of the tree fell behind him and Y/N and Neteyam were alone.

you knew that i'm a mastermind, and now you're mine
comment here on AO3.
mastermind may be an unlikely choice from Taylor Swift's Midnights, but i hope this short fic explains why it's the right one. more on that here.
gifted to @corneliaavenue for ranting with me about this damn album and finding new ways to apply its songs to hinny every day.
At first glance, the press can feel quite irritating.
Not in the she's-Harry-bloody-Potter's-wife sort of way - though there is plenty of that kind too, don't get her wrong - but in the you-are-famous-so-you-must-be-asked-all-sorts-of-intrusive-questions kind of way.
Over the years, she's come up with methods to circumvent those, and she finds herself fairly satisfied with the results.
Ginny flicks her eyes to her watch and claps her palms together. "Right, you lot. You know the rules: one hour, free for all," she raises her eyebrows in question, "Except for?"
"Respect boundaries, no use of passive aggressive questions, don't bring up Mr. Potter, limit discussions to Quidditch but deviations are allowed if not intrusively personal," the small press group chants obediently before one adult with rough skin tacks on, "And absolutely zero tolerance for any - and I quote from you directly - '1950s shite that implies anything about being the Chosen One's baby factory.' We should know better, and we should be better."
She grins, eyes brightening. "Correct, Peter! You learn quick! How are the kids, by the way? Sarah finally crawling?"
"Yes, Mrs. Potter, but we've got a new problem, unfortunately. Changing her nappy has become a bit difficult."
Ginny can tell. The man's hairline is already beginning to recede at the tender age of thirty eight, poor thing. She's not too much of a cow to point that out, of course.
"Ah, well, changing a nappy is a two person job," she states instead, "Maybe get Meghan to hold her arms down?"
"That won't stop her kicking, I suppose. But it is a start."
"And you, Sully?" she turns her attention to the lanky man standing in the back right, the words 'Highway to Hell' spilled colorfully on his shirt, ever the lover of Muggle music that he is. "Did you try that Indian restaurant I told you about last meeting? Remember we talked about expanding your palate to something a bit more…tasteful?"
He smiles a gap-filled smile, his remaining enamel a perfect match to the withering gray of his hair. At least one can't sue The Daily Prophet for ageism, she thinks off-handedly.
"Yes, I did. The curries were to die for. I've got a recommendation for you too, if you'd like."
Remembering his past insistence that she should give a taste for haggis, a quite fascinating Scottish delicacy of a sheep's heart, liver, and lungs mixed intricately with oatmeal and onions, Ginny fights to keep the smile on her face.
"Er, yeah, Sully, let's circle back to that, for sure."
One woman in the front raises her brightly manicured hand, practically bouncing in her eagerness to ask her first question. Ginny obliges, noting that she's among the newer, younger faces. "Hi, Gi - er, Mrs. Potter…I'm Jasmine! I've been cheering for you since your starting position with the Harpies! As someone who has also grown up in a testosterone-fueled house, I can tell you that seeing you earn a place in every league, every tournament you've been in has just - I am honor - I mean, you're just so amazing, and I - fuck, okay, I'll wrap this up."
Ginny laughs, startled but pleasantly so. She mouths a quick 'thank you,' touched beyond words.
Jasmine takes a deep breath and struggles to morph her expression to the likes of the other serious faces around her, self-consciously tucking a piece of chestnut hair behind her ear. Ginny wishes she wouldn't. Her energy is refreshing. She promises to tell her this one day.
"Since your projected wins have been accurate thus far, my question is, what do the stats say about the likelihood of the upcoming game resulting in the Chudley Cannons ranking above the Ballycastle Bats for the first time in seven years? They've certainly pulled their weight this season."
"Well, if you asked my brother, he'd say 100%, but since I'm obligated to tell the objective truth…" They all laugh appreciatively, and Jasmine's smile returns to the avid nature it once was. "On a more informative note, though, I'd say the realistic chances are…"
And this goes on for a while, the push and pull of conversation and banter, like gentle waves yielding to an easy tide, and this, this is the energy Ginny wishes she had been surrounded with throughout her professional life so far. She had never once blamed this particular lack on Harry, of course, for only a dimwit would believe he had somehow orchestrated this whole thing.
And if he still believes this sometimes, he's her dimwit, so he doesn't really count.
And it's not like she cares about what other people think.
Though it is another thing entirely to say it can't be a pain in the arse sometimes. A nail in an already infected foot.
But she refuses to let that bring her down.
It's her life, and she weaves the web of her own destiny. After all, she's spent enough time letting people use shears to tear them down.
"Mrs. Potter, I don't believe you ever addressed your oldest rumor back in your Hogwarts days?"
Ah, she spoke too soon. The Shear Personified.
"It's been overheard from several of your old classmates that Mr. Potter has identified you in his Amortentia during potions class." Oh, Jeffree, don't do it. You were quiet for so long. As you should have remained. "I mean, has there ever been an instance where you slipped in a love potion, let's say, in his pumpkin juice during breakfast? At least once?" I could have introduced you to Aunt Muriel, and you could have been miserable gossips together. "It's just a bit hard to believe - "
She doesn't even have to open her mouth because all of a sudden, the small crowd starts to chatter angrily, glaring at the admittedly social-cues-lacking middle-aged man.
"Boo," gap-toothed Sully chants, throwing his unlit cigarette butt in an aimless direction.
"Poor form, mate," Peter's head shaking causes a child's toy to go off in his nappy bag. "You should know the rules by now."
"Get. Out." This high-pitched but firm squeak is from Jasmine herself, and it's honestly more effective than any of the group's efforts thus far.
Ginny looks around at the mayhem, touched that her little fan circle is responding so strongly on her behalf.
It means the world, truly, considering that she'd gotten comfortable with the accusations and hate for so long, she forgot it had ever bothered her.
The turn of her lips, though slight, is full of awe, taking in the sight around her.
When the din finally quiets enough, she catches the end of Jeffree's defensive words: "All I am saying is that they were adolescents when they first got together, and reports say - "
"Who gives a damn what reports say?!"
"Er, thank you, Jasmine. Reports say that he was soon on the run for months, and - and - " he falters when he sees Ginny's cutthroat eyes, clearing his throat, "even at the last game, there are images of Mr. Potter staring in a 'daze that rivals a sacrificial victim ensnared by an enchantress,' to quote your own colleague Rita Skeeter - "
"Well, I'm glad Rita finds me enchanting," Ginny cuts in dryly, "But what are these images that you keep babbling about? At least have the gall to put your money where your mouth is before throwing accusations in the middle of a private press meeting."
With irritatingly un-shaky hands, Jeffree pulls out the "Exclusive Celebrity Papers," a Rita Skeeter new edition - as if she's written anything else in the past - and jabs at the pictures with one stubby finger.
She narrows her eyes, observing grainy-image-Harry gaping at grainy-image-Ginny, who had been commentating that day for the recent Appleby Arrows and Tutshill Tornados match, his gaze utterly distracted and…unfocused.
That is peculiar, Ginny wonders. Was it possible that he was stupefied earlier that day at work? No, the spell doesn't usually last that long, and he would have told her if he was, and besides, she's seen that look before she just can't place it -
And then, Ginny sees where exactly he's ogling at, and everything immediately clicks together.
"I know love potions are supposed to bring about feelings of lust, but I hate to break it to you, those trousers are known to do the same."
Her crowd laughs appreciatively, and Jasmine lets out a hearty whoop.
At this point, Jeffree's cheeks are a deep maroon.
"That - that's not very appropriate."
Ginny rolls her eyes. "Neither are your questions. I have a fit arse. My husband knows this. The sun rises in the east. Celery is a shite vegetable. Life goes on."
"Oh, please."
Great, here comes Ginny's least favorite part of these press meetings. She had been foolish to think it was put in the past, but alas.
When a man feels hurt that their ego isn't stroked, they spend their time feeling the need to let everyone know, thinking they'll care.
Like a child crying for attention. Only with these types of men, it's not a phase.
"Let's not pretend that everyone here is not wondering the same thing," the prat starts, "What, you think they care what restaurant taste you have? Your daycare advice? We all came here for one thing. A story."
This sends the room in a heated flurry again, but Ginny cuts it short, her biting remark a crisp breeze on a two-in-the-morning walk home.
"I don't need a love potion for my own husband to want me. And I don't care what you think your opinion is."
She skips, of course, the rant thrumming deep within her veins about how she, of all people, would know on a personal level what it's like to lose autonomy and would be the last to take it away from someone else. Such an obvious argument would only go over this dense sack's head.
Besides, she doesn't owe anyone any explanation.
Instead, she settles the building friction in the room with a cool: "But if you dare insult anyone in this room again, you'll find that the next story you cover is the one outside the toilets of the Ministry. And spoiler alert, entries into the departments are not all they use them for."
The rest of the press - no, her friends - cheers in delighted unison, Jasmine going so far as to hold the door for Jeffree's exit.
Sully swipes Rita's paper from his hand and rips it in two.
xxx
Harry laughs, listening attentively to Ginny's recount of the entire debacle, peppering remarks of "it is a great arse" and "if I see Jeffree covering the toilet entries I'll be sure to leave the seat up" and "ah, classic Sully. Maybe we should try the haggis he's always talking about," to which Ginny replies "or maybe we shouldn't" and grins as he affirms "yeah, maybe we shouldn't."
When their low-lit living room falls to a hush, Harry leans into Ginny's side, refilling her wine without her asking, and she ponders at how being with him just fits.
Like dominoes cascading in a line.
She puts her glass down and snuggles under his chin, preferring his clean scent as her method of intoxication instead.
"It's amazing," he breaks the companionable silence after a while, rubbing her back.
She lifts her head curiously.
"Only you could turn around a whole group of paparazzi and make them not only respect your boundaries but adore you. As a person. You just win over people so easily."
Ginny laughs and playfully nudges her elbow into his side, pressing her forehead to his. She knows he's really saying You win me over too, you know. Every day.
And all the rich colors of the grass around the world can't capture the natural comfort that his sage eyes make her feel.
She just has one final, teasing question to ask him.
"I mean, are you really surprised?"
His smirk is wide.
"Not in the least."

If you playing me that mean my home aint home - chapter 10
Featuring more awkward ikran rides, Spider teaching Quaritch Na'vi (aka my favourite thing), and pLentY of father/son feels 🥺
They took off into the cool Pandoran breeze. Mercifully, the new harness gave Spider a much better grip on the ikran and he didn't need Quaritch's arm to hold him in place anymore. He was filled with a new sense of optimism as the wind blew through his hair, knowing that he was headed back to the forest - back home. Out here, his hopes of rescue were much higher. He knew Jake wouldn't have forgotten about him. Hopefully scouts would catch wind of their presence and send an attack team, and he'd finally come home.
Whatever would come, he'd deal with it.
"So how do you call an ikran, kid?" Quaritch asked from behind, breaking Spider's reverie.
"Oh. Um, I can't do it, I've never had an ikran." He turned around. "Do you not sort of, instinctively feel it?"
Quaritch looked down at the boy. This was the first time he'd asked a question that he seemed genuinely interested in the answer to.
"I guess not, huh?" Spider turned back around. "<Too much a human.>"
"What was that kid?"
"I said, I'm not surprised. You may have an avatar but you'll never be Na'vi."
Behind him, Quaritch pondered what Spider had said, a frown on his face. Kid was talkative today. Almost too talkative. Spider clearly didn't respect him for his disregard for Na'vi culture, but as he'd seen in the forest two nights ago, Spider loved talking about the 'blue ways'. He could work with that.
"How do you say hello in Na'vi?"
"Kaltxì."
Quaritch was taken aback by the completely different pronunciation. "Karl - tay"
Spider snorted. "Oh my God," he said, laughing. "<That is the most tragic pronunciation ever!>"
At that, Spider received a rap on the back of his head. "Do you want to actually be helpful?"
"Say it slower... Kal."
"Kal."
"txi."
"ti."
Quaritch watched Spider shake his head, and he knew the boy was probably smirking his face off.
"You have to stop the sound in the back of your throat. Txi." Spider said it slower.
Quaritch copied the sound, happy it came out much more identical.
"Better. Now say the whole word." Spider turned around to face him again. "Kaltxì."
"Kaltxì."
A smile spread across Spider's face. Well I'll be damned, thought Quaritch.
Perhaps the boy realised his moment of vulnerability, for he turned around again quickly.
"You're getting there," he replied.
"Teach me goodbye."
And Spider did. By the time Hometree came into view, Quaritch had five words under his belt, and Spider's positive attitude had infected Quaritch in a way he found terrifying. He should not be in such a good mood after just one decent conversation with the kid. He thought no more about it as he urged Cupcake to descend lower, eventually through the canopy to land in the undergrowth at the base of the ginormous tree. The squad soon landed behind him and he waited for Spider to get off first before disconnecting his queue and following suit.
"Hell yeah," Savine rallied, to which the other guys let out similar chants. Although not as big as the first Hometree, this second one was still imposing.
"Now, our mission here is the explore Sully's last known location. The tree was raided a year ago when our guys got back here from Earth, but we're looking for any signs of Na'vi returning, or potential nearby clan activity. Heads swivelling. Let's move."
******
Spider leapt his way in front. He didn't know if Quaritch had clicked it, but this used to be part of Spider's home. Weird was not a good enough word to describe how it felt being back here, seeing it deserted after the People had fled, and turned over by the RDA raids. He ran to the wide entrance of the tree, where the remains of the communal living areas of the Omaticaya were scattered over the floor. He took in the sight before him as the recoms caught up, guns raised.
Fike jumped and everyone turned their guns upwards as a sleeping ikran screeched in annoyance at being disturbed. The ikran took off. "You can put your guns down assholes!" Spider called. The difference in their attitude compared to his was crazy. Spider felt at home here, he knew the tree inside out, had spent years playing, learning and laughing here. He couldn't imagine anyone being afraid of imaginary dangers lurking behind every corner.
The squad fanned out, beginning to look through possessions long since left behind, trying to decipher the clues of the People. Spider started to climb the inner column. He knew where he was headed. Since Jake was Olo'eyktan, the Sullys had had a slightly more private living space higher up. That was the place that held the most memories for him, the place he longed to see again. As he climbed the coil, he could almost hear the ghost of Kiri's laugh trailing behind him.
He reached the upper level of the tree and walked across a suspended vine acting as a bridge. He could still see the recoms exploring below.
"Hey Spider! Don't go too far!" Quaritch called up.
Spider ignored him, and made his way to the room where he had fallen asleep with the Sully kids too many times to count. It was an enclosed area that offered privacy from other clan members, and it felt like home. He looked around at the walls of the tree, the empty baskets he'd helped weave, the little table Neytiri's mother had made. Against the left wall had been the sleeping area, against the right was the eating space. A cry caught in his throat.
On the wall, still pinned up, was the drawing he'd done years ago of the Sully family, with little Spider standing next to them as a Na'vi. He couldn't believe it was still here - he'd forgotten all about it. He reached out and touched the faded outline, gently reassuring himself it was real.
The drawing gave him an idea. There was a root-like vine in the corner of the room, where Spider used to hide things behind if he needed to. Only Kiri had known about it. Heart hammering, he crouched down and dislodged the vine in the wall. It put up a fair amount of resistance after a year of being untouched, but as it came loose he found what he didn't know he was looking for. He pulled out the knife and examined it in his hands. He had made this knife when he was just 12 years old. Jake had helped him, shown him how to sharpen the blade, chisel the handle and sew the casing. It had been Kiri's tenth birthday and the pair had just decided that they were going to be friends for life. He'd wanted to give her something. He'd hidden it behind the root until her birthday. The humans had arrived soon after.
He held it close to his heart, closing his eyes. "<Kiri, where are you?>"
He jumped as he heard heavy footsteps behind him. "Spider?" Quaritch called. He hadn't heard the man approach. He exhaled, turning around slowly. "What's that you got there?" Quaritch's eyes flickered to the knife held to Spider's chest.
"Nothing."
Quaritch grabbed the knife out of his hands, examining it. "Not planning on using this toothpick were we?"
Spider grabbed it back, and the Colonel held his hands up in mock defeat. Spider turned wordlessly and replaced the knife back behind the root. He knew Quaritch wouldn't let him keep it but he'd be damned if he was going to let Quaritch have it.
"Come on," Quaritch beckoned him to leave, and he reluctantly traipsed back across the bridge. "Wait down by the entrance."
Spider was left to entertain himself while the recoms scoured the rest of the tree. He took the opportunity to rest, uninterested anymore in the ghosts of his past. After a while Quaritch called over the communicator for the squad to meet back at the entrance. They moved out to the forest, pausing to divide up water and sachets of food. His stomach growled embarrassingly loudly and Quaritch passed him a bunch of the protein bars from earlier, and a bottle of water. He removed his mask and gratefully gulped the water, before shoving half the bar into his mouth to chew while he put the mask back on. Now seemed to be a good moment while the recoms were resting, so he wandered off in search of some Yovo berries. Thankfully, he found a patch not too far from the camp, and straight away tore one open to get to the blue liquid inside. Normally, he'd mix it with sap to make it stain longer, but he was working with what he had. The berry was about the size of a football, so one was plenty. He started with his arms, reinforcing the almost completely faded stripes until they were bright again. Next he moved on to his legs and torso, and finally his face. It was difficult holding his breath long enough for the juice to dry, but he thought he did a fairly decent job. The only think missing was Kiri to do his back.
"Spider, get your ass back here now," he heard over the communicator. He sighed, knowing Quaritch was going to be mad.
He found the button on the collar that he knew would transmit his voice, and pressed. "Yeah," he said, "don't freak."
He made his way reluctantly back to camp.
*****
Quaritch hadn't found anything immediately useful at the tree, but that was no surprise. It was hard to imagine the huge structure filled with people, going about their day to day lives inside a tree, yet their remains had been scattered everywhere. Baskets strewn across the floor spilling supplies the People had been too rushed to bring with them, spears and bows and arrows scattered on the floor. He almost felt bad for them.
Then he'd found Spider on an upper level, clutching a knife - a small one at that, presumably it was a child's. But after he'd made Spider leave, he'd caught sight of something that made him pause. A child's drawing was pinned to the wall of the tree, showing... damn. Jake Sully, his crazy wife, and five children. Under each image were their names, messily scrawled in blue crayon. Jake, Neytiri, Neteyam, Lo'ak, Tuk, Kiri and... Spider. Holy shit. The kid had drawn himself as a Sully. A blue one at that.
What was that feeling rising in his chest? He couldn't name it, he couldn't even recognise it. He tried to pass it off as pity. It was definitely sad as hell. It had to be Spider that had drawn that picture. No one else would have drawn him blue. Jesus, the kid was even more messed up than he thought.
Then, while they were loading up with calories he'd realised Spider was missing, again. He called for him over the radio, thankful he'd even had the foresight to give one to him. Spider emerged from the forest, but he looked different. His fingers were stained blue, and Quaritch realised his tiger stripes were a much brighter shade of Na'vi. He forgot his anger as Spider shyly walked over, stopping just short of where he could reach for him. Quaritch huffed in acknowledgement.
He didn't know what this was. But it wasn't pity.

“We must prepare for the union of Jake and Tani for eclipse!” Mo’at chants. Your people nodding, each member of your clan having a key role for occasions such as festivals, funerals, weddings, and war parties. The crowd begins to slowly dissipate while you and a few people say your last goodbyes. Figures make your peripheral, as you turn to see your parents make their way to you. You gasp, not having seen them in several days since the rescue mission. You throw yourself into their arms. “Mother, father!” You relish in their touch, embracing you. “Ma’ite My daughter.” Your father sings, as your mother rubs your braids. You look to them with melancholy in your eyes, “I guess I’m getting married tonight.” You laugh. They smile awkwardly, with your mother attempting to comfort you, “Ma’Tani, may you find comfort that our Great Mother has chosen you for a reason. She does not make mistakes. This union will be a blessing. Jake Sully is a fine man, and great leader.” Your father nods gently. Jake standing next to you smiles at your mother’s words. The kids now circling in on your group, “Well, we must prepare you for a wedding now huh?” Your mother says stroking your face. “Come children, you may help. Jake we will see you at eclipse.” Your mother says dragging you to her tent with the Sully kids.
Now in your mother and father’s tent, you anxiously sit on the mats stroking Tuk’s braids out of comfort as the rest sit next to you silently. You still haven’t talked to Neteyam about the kiss. You turn to the eldest Sully, his eyes already on you as he sadly smiles your way. You reach out to him, squeezing his hand lovingly. A shared look knowing that the kiss would be your first and last. Your mother turns to you all with garments in her hands. “Who would like to help me dress Tani for such a special day?” Tuk’s ears perk, shooting up with excitement. “Me!” You laugh at her eagerness and turn to Lo’ak who has a smile on his face now. “What do you say Sully?” Trying to get a laugh out of him. He rolls his eyes and pushes your shoulder as you all make your way over to the material. “Just don’t expect me to call you mom anytime soon please.” As he groans. You laugh, for a fleeting moment forgetting the sorrow bursting out of your hearts. Your wedding garments now spread across the table, with Kiri and Tuk gazing at you excitedly. You happily sigh for the first time in days, “Shall we?”
You take one last look in the mirror, as Kiri and your mother adjust the clothing one last time. Green material hugging your body, symbolizing abundance and prosperity. With your head decorated in a red and green feathered headpiece, much like Toruk Makto’s. Your leather headband with bone similar to the one Jake will wear symbolizes the highest status a clan member can attain. You’re about to become royalty among your people. The green mossy material on your body has leaves dangling from the top and loincloth that sways with your movement. You take a step back, and spin for everyone to see. “A true vision my beautiful daughter. I am so happy to see you on this day.” She brings your chin to meet her eyes. You smile to her, then to the Sully kids. The flap opening suddenly causes you to all turn your heads to the source. Mo’at stands in the entrance, “It is time for a celebration, child. We must be off.” She reaches out to you. The Sully kids have now washed off all the funeral paint, you included and walk out the tent. To your surprise Jake is standing outside waiting for you. Your gasp takes you by surprise as your eyes scan his tall muscular physique. Dressed as the mighty Toruk Makto, he adorns the similar headband to yours with leather and bone. Red feathers symbolizing status and sensuality, and his Ikran talon necklace. Your cheeks begin to heat, as he takes your hand in his. “You ready?” You meet his gaze, “Yes, yes I am.”
You and Jake walk together as Mo’at leads the way to your spirit tree with the Sully kids trailing behind you. Your people gathered together, smiling as you walk past them. Happy yips and chants make way to your ears. A happy time among such sorrow, appreciating Eywa’s timing. With both of you mounted on the top of the Spirit tree Mo’at begins to sing asking Eywa to bless this union. Your people chant with your Tsahìk under the purple glow of the spirit tree. You bring your almond amber eyes to Jake’s. A sudden shyness takes over your body, as you feel your breath hitch. The pure spirits now floating around you both, Mo’at yips with happiness. “Our Great Mother has blessed the union of Jake Sully and Tani te Ol’ul Peyral’ite. With this union, Tanywral you will bear the name Tani te Suli Peyral’ite. Now Tsakarem of the Omatikaya. Do you accept your new life Tani, as the mate of Toruk Makto?” You look to her and nod, “Yes.” She turns to Jake, “And do you Jake Sully take Tani as your mate, leading your people as Toruk Makto and Tsakarem?” He looks to you while he says “Yes.” Your heart skips a beat. “You may kiss your mate, now solidifying your new union among our people.” You both slowly lean in, awkwardly realizing your first kiss is in front of your clan, your parents, and the Sully kids, now your children. Your lips gently touch one another, as you melt into the warmth of his skin. He brings his hands to your jaw lightly cupping your face. You hear the cheers, yips and hoots of your people. You slowly break the kiss and smile to one another, looking to your clan. Seeing Max, Norm in the background with the masks smiling teary eyed at you. Your neck turns to the kids, opening your arms to them as they graciously embrace your hug. A blessing among all the sorrow, signifying hope for you and your people.

I have been thinking about Crow's Dragon chant.
'Darkened gales, reveal hidden wishes on your wings!'
It never felt connected to his character, to me. But now I notice it more. There is a thing with Crow carrying on the wishes of other people. (I don't know if it was intentional or not).
First it was the kids.
Then it was when he obtained the tail mark. I think it was Blister who says that the tail tattoo carries Goodwins hopes and dreams back when Yusei has it. Then it switchs to Crow, who declared that he will never let the legend of the Daedalus Bridge be sullied, that he will keep it alive.
Blackbird and Black-Winged Dragon, are both of Pearson's wishes that Crow inherited.
Thinking this way kind of gives Crow something to represent like the rest of the cast.

OBCD Chapter 6 - Spilled Slushies
“Often when someone hurts you, they aren’t hurting you because you are you. They are hurting you because they are them.” — Karen Salmansohn
Tumblr media
“Oi Diya! Girl get over here! These kids done broke them slush machines!”
With an audible sigh, she dragged her figure across the store. Strewn across the soiled floor were the vibrant contents of the slush machines, the culprits’ sullied shoes dragging the mess even further. Disheartened, she grabbed a nearby mop and dragged it across the floor. “Don’t you get sassy with me girl! Ain’t like I didn’t hear your ungrateful self sighing two minutes ago near the counter,” the manager shrieks. “Clean that mess and get back here. I ain’t paying you a single penny if you ain’t at the checkout by 10.” Brash words from a brash person.
Mopping the dirt-yellow floor, Diya’s eyes drifted onto the ugly neon advert placed just across the store. Despite the disproportionate images and uncoordinated colour scheme, the model in the centre of it seemed to dazzle. Blonde, blue eyes, bright smile. Beautiful. I used to be just like that, she thought. No. I used to be even better.Had fate been gentler to her, Diya’s life would have been completely different, with the job of her dreams and the fame she always wanted. Fame, cameras, money, glitter and glam. A crowd that went crazy at her arrival, the life of a star, the crowd losing their minds as she flashed a bright smile, chanting Diya! Diya! The world would’ve been my oyster, she thought, longing for the girl she was, longing for the girl she could be had she not made such an enormous blunder. If she didn’t need quick cash, Diya would have been all that living amongst the richest, not mopping slush from the dirt-yellow floor of the “century-old” convenience store.
“That’ll be €23.50. Cash or card?” Diya looked up to face the boy she was serving. He couldn’t have been over 16, yet his insolent stare made Diya feel small, helpless. “Cash obvi! It’s common sense, but I guess you don’t have that,” he snickered, throwing a wad of cash at her. Surprised at his misbehaviour, a scowl escaped her lips before she could catch herself. The boy glared at her, snatching the goods before Diya even finished cashing them. “Watch it! Football like you ain’t got no place left for attitude. The only thing you got in you is kilos after kilos of food,” he spat out. Diya shrank within herself. Everywhere around her, the laughs of the people in the store echoed, getting louder and louder. Diya steeled her nerves and removed the boy from the store premises, but that little ball of despair still lingered, eating away at her soul.
“Don’t mind them. You shouldn’t take these things to heart,” a baritone voice spoke as she made her way back to the cashier. Diya lifted her head to look at the man in front of her. Suddenly, she struggled to breathe, breath trapped in her lungs. She knew this man, from a time too long ago. A time in which he was no man, but a boy. A round, helpless boy with a heart too kind. “Earle,” she whispered as she gawked at the person in front of her. He had lustrous blond hair and a chiselled face. He was much skinnier than the first time they met, much muscular than the first time too.
“You… know me?” His bright blue eyes were filled with confusion. Of course, she thought, how would he recognise me as not the person I was before, but an obese person? Regardless, she tried, “It’s me, Diya. I don’t know if you remember, but we met at this very convenience store. Except, I suppose our roles were switched.” She could physically see in his eyes as the pieces fell into place and his confusion cleared. “Oh yeah, I remember. You’re the one who-” “Earlieeeee,” a parrot-like voice screeched.
Earle turned around, waving at a group of people in the store. Diya’s face fell. Those were the people that broke the slush machine. Earle’s gang of friends hopped on forwards to him. Amongst the group was a little kid, the same one she had an altercation with moments prior. “Hey sis,” the kid drawled to one of the girls in the crowd, “this that football-looking dude I was talking to y’all about. Bro, Earle, my dude, don’t tell me you were talking to this,” the kid seemed to be looking for the right selection of words, “cashier? I guess that’s what you’re s’posed to be.” Other people in the group nodded in unison, staring at Earle, waiting for a reply.Diya remembered this scene. She knew what she had done, a shameful act, a desperate one for the semblance of being the ‘popular girl’. She could only hope that Earle would be better, would be a bigger person than she ever was. Fate must have been laughing once again as Earle took one last look at Diya before turning to his friends, his demeanour changing. Gone was that sweet boy that Diya met years ago and in came the vengeful, spiteful guys who became one amongst the countless people that mistreated Diya, perhaps who once mistreated Earle. “Dude, be for real,” he drawled, chuckling. “No way I’m gonna talk to someone like her. Can I even call you a her!” The whole group cackled menacingly as they made their way out of the store. The kid snickered before knocking over a display shelf. The group hooted at her actions, creating chaos before the manager of the store shooed them away.

“Did you really think that this would work? Like I’m not gonna be friends with u just cuz u said sry. Don’t txt me ever again. Anywhere.”
Diya scrambles, panicking. She sits up and types furiously, fingers flying on the keyboard. A rushed reply, but a reply nonetheless. She has to ask him for forgiveness. But she could never send the message, not when the bright red sign appeared on her screen:
itsyaboiyaeger.sasageyo has blocked you.
Days passed since that unfortunate incident. Diya moved on, but she never forgot, never would have forgiven Earle for his crude behaviour if she hadn’t thought she deserved it. What did I expect, she thought, ashamed, that all would be nice and well just ‘cause he’s all fit and muscular, and I am the same way he was back then? Get over yourself, Diya. She never held a grudge, never acted out. She simply… moved on.
Ding! Her phone rang out. Curious, she opened her phone to see… “They’re live!” Diya was delighted! Her favourite influencer was live on social media. I’ve never seen another influencer’s live before, she thought, intrigued. Clicking on the live logo flashing on her screen, she entered the live… only to find out that it was a live fan call. Her screen camera buzzed to life, presenting her face for the world to see. Terror seized her limbs. They’ll see my face, she thought, horrified, they’ll see how beastly I am. They’ll mock me. They’ll tease me. They’ll…
“Oh! I see we have a new follower joining our call. Everyone say hello to @diya.elostra! Uh, do I have to say ‘heart sign’ too?” Her username —  @diya.elostra♡ — flashed onto the screen as she felt all eyes land on her video. “No, don’t look at me,” she stuttered out, alarmed. Diya frantically tapped on the video off button but to no avail. She was ready to break the phone if she had to. Sensing her fear, the influencer said, “Hey, Miss Elostra. It’s fine, you know? We’re chill here, it’s just a call for fun.” “But I’m ugly to see,” the words escaped her before she could even process them. The influencer’s eyes soften, a wistful smile creeping up their lips. Even an avatar feels sympathetic towards me, Diya thought, flustered.
“Miss Elostra,” the influencer says with a soft sternness. Like a mother scolding their kid, Diya thought, flustered once again. “First of all, nobody is ugly. Sure, some people have different preferences. But ugly? That’s a word too strong to use on anyone. So, you’re not ugly. Second of all, I saw the way you were tryna hide yourself. You’re not ugly ‘cause you’re… I don’t know, round, maybe above weight. You’re you. Ain’t nothing gonna change that. You don’t have to be pretty, or — like you said — ugly or fat or skinny to be you.” Diya looks at her screen, wet from all the tears she shed. Why was this person being so kind? It’s probably for more followers, a hideous voice in her head seethed.
“Now I know, I’m a gym instructor typa person,” the influencer stated, “but trust me, I’m no oil painting. Yet I still post these videos. Yet I still go to the gym, have fun, live my life. Yet I still try to stay healthy and happy. That’s ‘cause losing weight and staying fit aren’t things anyone should do for beauty or followers or any of that kinda stuff. These are things one should do for their health. They should do it for the special moments in life. So that in 40, 50 years, when they are all old and wrinkly, they can still smile, still stay with all those they love. It’s so that they can experience all that life has to offer. Because, and trust me on this, life has a LOT to give. And none of us wants to stay chained up to a hospital bed anytime soon. We all want to live, to breathe, to jump around and be the kids we all are at heart. And a few followers on some Instagram accounts shouldn’t be the ones trying to stop you from achieving all that. No one should. You get what I’m saying, Miss Elostra? Stay fit for you, not for others.” Diya watched, spellbound, as all the other people voiced their agreement. People of all shapes and sizes, people of all ages, and people of all colours. Everyone agreed.
With tears in her eyes and a dazzling smile on her face, Diya left the call. She looked at a picture she always kept beside her bed. A picture of the Diya that she was. A picture of that Diya that she will no longer be.
For that Diya only loved fame, only loved beauty. And this Diya is nothing like that.

Avatar: The Way of Water dir: James Cameron, 2022
The two wolves inside James Cameron are both straining at the leash here.
His military prowess vs primitive know-how stories are an illustration of how his hard-headed, no-time-for-sissies practicality contrasts with his enduring hippyish Kumbayah connection to nature.
As with his other Vietnam War analogies, Aliens and the first Avatar, the fact that the gun-toting marines are ultimately thwarted by the guerilla campaigns of a far less technologically sophisticated adversary cannot mask Cameron's hard-on for military hardware and his tell-tale facility with tough-talk jarhead jargon.
For all of the emphasis on his chanting, mystical, natural-world-attuned natives, Big Jim can't help but get off on watching gunships strafe forests and marines 'light up' villages to smoke out the gooks, and he knows his audience does too.
Tumblr media
And what of the Na'vi? They are the noble savages who definitely are not into sacrificial killings, boiling outsiders in big pots, ceremonial raping of children, and problematic things like that! Come to think of it, I don't think they do anything funky. In fact, in The Way of Water, these alien tribes act like Americans. The children, especially. I know Jake Sully is human in origin, but his kids address him as 'sir', and he threatens to ground them if they goof off, and they call each other 'bro'.
James Cameron created this whole alien world and civilisation, his own sandbox in which to play and let his imagination slip its bonds, and it's all very Californian. The surfer dude teens, the Bay Area New Age utopianism, Silicon Valley tech optimism, and liberal guilt. The vision of the world of Pandora is a psychedelic painting of dolphins on the side of a hippy van.

"Somehow... Sgt Rock has returned." Because no-one can stay dead in genre blockbusters, he resurrects the hard-bitten baddie from part one, who is now also an avatar in Na'vi form. The American marines now look like Na'vi, and the Na'vi speak and behave like American marines! It's all become a big blue blur.
In case that wasn't enough blue for you, Cameron shifts the action to the perfect crystalline blue of the sea. Here is a 3+ hour, $500 million blockbuster of everything he loves culminating in a big, emotional, action-packed finale that even takes place on a huge, sinking vessel.
The question is whether Big Jim is just playing his greatest hits, or if we have seen everything he's capable of doing barring even more hi-tech fine-tuning; more and more technical detail, more freckles on faces, more tiny detail in uncanny hyperreal eyes?
Avatar is the biggest franchise going, but I still wonder: is this it?
