how to write a book; my version
Tumblr media Tumblr media
→ what style of writing do you want to go for? (1st POV, 2nd, 3rd, narration) and what your main two genres will be, always starting with the more important first (horror mystery, psychological thriller, romantic comedy)
→ a piece of advice I heard: every character thinks they're the main character. Do not spend more time on the MC than the others; the side characters are vital to the evolution of the plot and changes in the MC themself. Each and every character introduced will somehow influence the story, no matter how big or small.
→ work smart, not hard; you aren't in a rush to get anything finished. I know, everyone's heard that once before, but really; there is no limit to publishing a book. You don't have to push one out of you right away after graduation. After all, we all write at different paces. Mary Shelley published Frankenstein when she was 19 and Bram Stoker published Dracula at 49. Know your limits and do not overwork yourself!
→ write everything. Personally, I have to carry around sticky notes and a pen everywhere I go because I get ideas so easily and I have to write them down so I won't forget. Most of them go into my notebook to be interpreted later.
→ always take the time to personalize your writing. It could be intertwining a mental illness of yours into one of the characters or a location you hold close to your heart, but I find it's easier to write when you have experience with what you're writing about. When I write, I tend to add in several personalized aspects of myself, mostly memories from years ago, to either get to know the character or to recall a past experience that helps resolve the current conflict.
→ remember that you are not what you write! I've had struggles in the past while writing gory scenes or emotional outbursts; I was scared that I was like that, too. It took so long to finally realize that no writer is what they write, but the way they describe certain scenes. It's so important to add a personal touch to your writing, but also to remain disconnected completely.

a study guide; my version
Tumblr media Tumblr media
→ memory practice. test yourself at the end of every study session, no matter how big or small. find a quiz online relating to your subject, and redo the quiz or test until every question is correct.
→ personally, it helps a lot when I highlight different subjects in the text (or notes) so I can refer back to them easily. say you were studying a painting for an art class, you would highlight the time periods or different dates one color and then a different color for location. It's how I got through my high school finals.
→ repeat it. I don't just mean writing it down, I mean in your head, constantly. when there's a part you don't remember, refer back to the first suggestion.
→ frequent breaks to relax, but not to forget. during your breaks between studying, watch videos relating to the subject. not necessarily exercising your mind, but going over what you previously learned. having a snack helps, too.
→ if you have trouble with something, write about it! it could be in form of a song if it helps you, but normally I just use my notebook and it sticks with me that way.
→ don't. give. up. I'm telling you, plain and simple, but so important, that you won't just do it tomorrow and you won't just pull through the test without it. if you really want that grade, if you want to pass this class, this semester, this year, you have to go through the process now. if that isn't enough motivation for you to stop reading my post right now, then I don't know what is.
→ food. preferably healthy. it helps your mind concentrate better. easy way to end my suggestions, simple and true!
I hope this helps! remember, my guide doesn't work for everybody, this is simply what helps me.
