COME BACK
𝘱𝘢𝘪𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨: Oikawa x Iwaizumi
𝘨𝘦𝘯𝘳𝘦: angst, hurt comfort
𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘥 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘵: 600 words
𝘴𝘶𝘮𝘮𝘢𝘳𝘺: After Oikawa leaves for Argentina, both him and Iwaizumi realise they can't be away from each other for that long.
“I’m moving to Argentina.” Oikawa said it in a simple way at 4:00 a.m., on the second day of their date.
“What?” Iwaizumi asked, completely frozen from shock.
At that moment, Iwaizumi thought about how strange it was that he didn't know his setter at all, because he really didn’t see this coming.
That day, they didn’t get any sleep. Iwaizumi decided they couldn’t miss a second not spending time together, not now.
The same followed for the  next few weeks leading up to that last goodbye, Oikawa had planned out every waking second, but not without Iwaizumi’s help.
“I’m gonna miss you.” Iwaizumi stumbled through the long goodbye.
“Gonna miss you too, partner.” Oikawa’s bitter-sweet smile almost brought tears to Iwaizumi’s eyes.
“One last kiss, then I have to catch my flight.” He added, leaning forward to give the shorter a long, tear stained kiss.
Right when Iwaizumi was just about to fall, Oikawa walked to the gate.
He told himself not to get attached, but in his mind, Iwaizumi plays it back daily and wonders what would happen if he told Oikawa to stay.
Would he stay?
Would he still leave?
Would he offer to take him with?
His head was spinning faster than the plane that took his former captain.
And this is when the feeling sinked in.
He didn’t wanna miss Oikawa like this
“Come back, be here.” Iwaizumi whispered at the selfie Oikawa sent him after a round of beach volleyball with his teammates.
“Come back, be here.” He whispered again.
“I guess you're in Argentina today, I don't wanna need you this way, so please come back, be here.” He felt a single tear run down his cheek, which he quickly whipped away with the palm of his hand.
The delicate beginning rush, Oikawa was in love with Argentina, the new culture, the beautiful language, the new teammates, he loved it all, but he soon felt  the feeling he can know so much.
Missing Iwaizumi.
If Oikawa had known what he'd known now, he never would've played so nonchalant.
As he watched the taxi cabs and busy streets that never bring Iwaizumi back to him, he couldn’t  help but wish he took Iwaizumi with him.
And this is when the feeling sinked in.
“I don't wanna miss you like this, come to me, be here.” Oikawa whispered to himself, trying to calm his tears.
“I guess you're in Japan today, and I don't wanna need you this way, so please come to me, be here.” He added as he scrolled his former spiker’s instagram.
That’s when they both knew, this is falling in love in the cruelest way.
This is falling for one another and they are worlds away.
“In Japan, be here, but you're in Argentina, and I break down, cause it's not fair that you're not around.” Iwaizumi told the phone as if he was talking to Oikawa.
“In Argentina, be here, but you're in Japan, and I break down, cause it's not fair that you're not around.” Oikawa told the phone as if he was talking to Iwaizumi.
“This is when the feeling sinks in, I don't wanna miss you like this so please, shittykawa, come back, be here.” Iwaizumi whispered.
“Come back to me, be here.” Oikawa whispered
And as they both stared at their phones, and their visions blurred from the tears, they realized they couldn’t handle it anymore.
Just as he was about to click the call button, his phone lit up with the only face he wanted to see right now.
“Hey, can we talk?”

“Oh no, what will you do now that your video game has been cut short.” Hinata dramatically sighed as he sat down on Kenma’s lap.
“Oh no, what will you do now that your volleyball games will be cut short.” Kenma jokingly said as he took off his headset.
“You’re lucky you’re hot.” Kenma said as he saw Hinata’s fake pout.
“And that you love me.” Hinata looked away dramatically.
“Debatable.” Kenma joked, a smile creeping onto his face while Hinata’s hand reaches towards his chest.
“Gasp, how dare.” Hinata said as he stood up and walked over to their bed, but not before Kenma playfully slapped the opposite hitter’s ass.
“Hey, I’m gonna have to charge you for that!” Hinata jokingly said as he flopped onto the bed.
“I already pay for everything you do!” Kenma laughed.
“But what do you want, Pumpkin Spice?” He added, turning his chair to face the bed.
“You, always.” Hinata winked, causing Kenma’s blush to worsen.
“What do you want now?” He asked once more as he leaned against the chair, resting his chin on the palm of his band.
“Hmm.” Hinata thought.
Kenma couldn’t believe it, it was like yesterday, he had met him that warm spring day.
It was like yesterday, he had finally built the courage to ask him out, only for the younger to confess first.
It was like yesterday, he had gone down on one knee, only to end up on the floor laughing once Hinata copied him by taking out his own engagement ring.
It was like yesterday, but it wasn’t, and Kenma still couldn’t believe it.
He couldn’t believe he had been able to make Hinata his.
How lucky was he.
“Cuddles, immediately.” Hinata said, making eye contact.
“That’s how you can pay up.” Hinata smiled wide, waiting for his fiance to get up from his chair and join him on the bed.
“Gladly, Kozume.” Kenma smiled as he wrapped Hinata in a hug.
“That’s nice to hear, but honestly, I think Hinata would suit you more.” The orange haired boy giggled.
“Hinata Kenma? Oh no, it has to be Kozume Shoyo.” Kenma argued.
“Nuh-uh, you’re taking my last name, I asked you out first.” Hinata huffed. “I proposed first.” Kenma fired back.
“By like a minute!” Hinata pouted. “Still a minute, plus I’m older.” Kenma smirked.
“And taller.” He added as Hinata rolled his eyes.

ALL THE TIME
Tumblr media
𝘱𝘢𝘪𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨: Kageyama x Hinata (Hinata x Kenma)
𝘨𝘦𝘯𝘳𝘦: angst
𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘥 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘵: 500 words
𝘴𝘶𝘮𝘮𝘢𝘳𝘺: Back to December in Hinata's point of view
“I go back to December, all the time.”
Hinata replayed the words in his head, over and over, like a broken record.
“Shoyo-kun, what do you want to order tonight?” Kenma called out, adjusting the left part of his headset off of his ear to hear his fiance's response.
“Shoyo?” He called out, quickly taking his eyes off of his screen and focusing on Hinata, who looked lost in thought, as he fiddled with the ends of his sweater.
He paused what he was doing and made his way to the couch, where the orange-haired opposite hitter sat.
“Oh, sorry, I was just thinking about something someone said to me last week, it’s nothing.” Hinata smiled at Kenma, who waved a hand in front of his face.
“You sure it’s nothing?” Kenma asked, worried. “Yeah, I’m fine, what did you want to say?” Hinata tilted his head up to meet Kenma’s gaze.
“What do you wanna get for dinner tonight?” Kenma asked, letting it go this time as he sat down next to Hinata.
“What do you wanna get, Ken?” Hinata asked as Kenma rested his head on Hinata’s shoulder.
“Kinda craving those dumplings from that bistro we went to last month.” Kenma mumbled as he cuddled into Hinata’s side.
As Hinata was reminded of the bistro, he remembered running into Kageyama last week, and what he had told him.
“I miss your soft skin, your sweet smile. So good to me, so right, and how you held me in your arms that September night, the first time you ever saw me cry.”
He didn’t want to admit it, he still doesn’t, but he missed Kageyama too.
September, the first time he ever saw him cry.
“Kage-” “No, stop, please.” Kageyama pleaded as he sniffled.
“I shouldn’t be crying, esp-” “Why not?!” Hinata cut him off.
“Why can’t you cry?” Hinata asked as he slowly made his way towards the setter. “Not in front of you, I-” Kageyama stopped mid-sentence when he felt the delicate touch of Hinata’s hand on his cheek, wiping the tears away.
“I’m not here to judge you, I’m here for you.” Hinata whispered as Kageyama completely broke down and embraced him.
“Maybe this is wishful thinking, probably mindless dreaming, but if we loved again, I swear I'd love you right. I'd go back in time and change it, but I can't.”
Maybe it was, maybe it was wishful thinking, but Hinata knew that if they did in fact love again, he wouldn’t have let Kageyama leave so easily.
No, he wouldn’t let Kageyama leave at all.
Hinata also would have gone back in time and changed, but he can’t.
“So if the chain is on your door, I understand, but this is me swallowing my pride, standing in front of you saying I'm sorry for that night.”
The chain was on the door, but the door was glass and the chain was made out of paper.
“It turns out freedom ain't nothin' but missin' you, wishin' I'd realized what I had when you were mine.”
It turns out commitment ain’t nothin’ but missin’ Kageyama either.
“I'd go back to December, turn around and make it alright, turn around and change my own mind. I go back to December all the time.”
The night of the breakup, a cold winter night, when fear creeped into Kageyama’s mind and it happened.
One of the biggest mistakes of their lives.
“All the time.” Hinata repeated.
“All the time.” Kageyama said once more.
Hinata couldn’t help it, he felt lost, because he also went back to December all the time.
“I go back to December, all the time.”
Hinata replayed the words in his head, over and over, like a broken record.
“Kageyama, I-I’m engaged to Kenma.”
“Shoyo? You sure you’re okay?” Kenma mumbled as he snuggled further into the crook of Hinata’s neck.
He’s engaged to Kenma.
Kenma.
Not Kageyama.
“Yeah, I’m fine, you want dumplings?” Hinata cheerfully asked.
“Yes.” Kenma smiled, melting into his fiance's touch.
“I go back to December, all the time.”
Hinata replayed the words in his head, over and over, like a broken record.
Turns out the record isn’t the only thing broken.

𝘴𝘶𝘮𝘮𝘢𝘳𝘺: Back to December in Kageyama's point of view
“How's life? Tell me, how's your family?” Kageyama asked.
“They’ve been good, why?” Hinata answered, bringing the gyoza to his mouth.
“I haven't seen them in a while.” Kageyama just informed “And you?” He added.
“I've been good, busier than ever.” Hinata smiled, thinking about the amount of practice MSBY Black Jackals have been having lately, seeing as they were approaching an important game.
They made small talk, work and the weather.
Hinata’s guard is up and Kageyama knows why.
Because the last time he saw Kageyama, is still burned in the back of his mind.
Hinata gave Kageyama roses and Kageyma left them there to die.
They had broken up during winter in their 3rd year and once they graduated, they hadn't seen much of each other.
They both went on to their respective teams and had no interactions, till they met at a bistro half an hour ago and decided to catch up.
These days, Kageyama hasn't been sleeping.
He’s been staying up playing back himself leaving, ever since the day Hinata’s birthday passed and he didn't call.
Then he thought about summer, all the beautiful times, he watched Hinata laughing from the passenger's side, and realized he loved him in the fall.
And then the cold came, the dark days, when fear crept into Kageyama’s mind.
Hinata gave him all his love and all Kageyama gave Hinata was goodbye.
And that’s all he was gonna give Hinata again as he watched him walk out of the bistro.
No.
This time he wasn’t gonna let him leave with just a goodbye.
“Hinata Shoyo!” Kageyama yelled as he ran after the orange haired man.
“K-Kageyama?” Hinata turned around.
“I miss your tan skin, your sweet smile.” Kageyama rushed to his side and started talking.
“So good to me, so right.” he continued as he took Hinata’s hand in his.
“And how you held me in your arms that September night, the first time you ever saw me cry.” Kageyama looked at the pavement.
“Maybe this is wishful thinking, probably mindless dreaming.” He added as he looked away from the shorter man.
“But if we loved again, I swear I'd love you right.” Kageyama finally made eye contact again.
“I'd go back in time and change it, but I can't.” He sighed, “So if the chain is on your door, I understand.” He looked away again, clenching his jaw.
No, don’t cry now.
“But this is me swallowing my pride, standing in front of you saying I'm sorry for that night.” Kageyama closed his eyes before shaking his head and turning to face Hinata completely.
“It turns out freedom ain't nothin' but missin' you, wishin' I'd realized what I had when you were mine.” Hinata felt his whole body turn red as Kageyama’s eyes stared into his soul.
“I'd go back to December, turn around and make it alright, turn around and change my own mind.” Kageyama explained, recalling their winter break up.
“I go back to December all the time.” He added, finally allowing himself to breathe.
“All the time.” Hinata repeated.
“All the time.” Kageyama said once more.
“Kageyama, I-I’m engaged to Kenma.” Hinata spoke up after a minute, a lump in his throat, slowly raising his hand up to reveal the engagement ring.
“What?” Kageyama’s face turned blank as he processed what he had just heard.

Most of the things I will be writing will be gender-neutral.
I am aware most of these characters are minors, but 1) it's all fiction, 2) it's just for fun, 3) I'm literally writing about fictional people, chill.
WHEN I WRITE FOR THE OTHER SHOWS, I WILL MAKE THEM THEIR OWN M.LISTS

ACT 1
May 2011
Watching something fall always happens in slow motions.
Trying to catch it seems possible, it’s falling slowly after all.
But things are never that easy.
Because you, yourself go in slow motion too.
And you’re a fool if you think you can beat gravity itself.
Suna knew that better than anyone, to him, no matter how fast he could be, he knew he couldn’t keep up, he couldn’t catch in time.
He knew.
But that didn’t mean he wouldn’t try.
It all started his first year. It was the day of his first official match.
His team had gone to Miyagi prefecture and they had just walked back onto their bus after a lunch stop.
Right before their continued journey, he saw Atsumu run from his seat in the back and out the bus.
Osamu had yelled after him, telling him to not be an idiot and to get back onto the bus, but if there was one thing Atsumu was good at, it was disobeying his twin.
All of their eyes were glued to the fake blonde, as he ran after a person with headphones.
He finally caught up and once you turned around, Suna’s eyes widened.
The sun shining on you and bringing out all your features in the best way possible, it made you look like you were straight out of a movie.
You were prettier than any other person Suna had ever seen before.
Suna never believed in love at first sight, he still doesn’t.
Because it wasn’t love that he felt when he saw you, but it was pretty darn close.
They talked for a while and when they smiled at Atsumu, Suna knew that their smile was the start of the fall.
After Atsumu got back on the bus, he was asked about the interaction and as the bus took them to the venue.
“I just saw them from my seat and had to tell them they were the prettiest person I’ve ever seen.” Atsumu sighed, love in his eyes as Aran laughed at his junior.
“That’s it? Did you at least get their number?” Osamu asked.
“No, I didn’t want to seem like a creep, besides, the coach told me to speed things up so I panicked.” Atsumu answered, pouting.
The first reaction to the fall, but he was too late, as when they got to the venue, they entered the gym and saw two teams already competing, one of them having the setter they had all seen before.
“Hey, isn’t that the person?” Aran asked as they walked to the bleachers.
“It is! I can still get their number!” Atsumu announced, happily. They sat down and watched the match.
Suna, who would have pulled out his phone and scrolled through his social media by now, was hypnotized.
But he wasn't the only one.
Two seats away from him was Atsumu, who was coming up with plans to win you over already.
The first set finished when their new wing spiker and setter pulled off a quick attack.
“They’re really good.” Hitoshi, who sat next to Suna, said. “They both are.” Osamu commented.
They were right. The accuracy in that set carried talent and hard work, one could tell as your body moved almost as if on instinct.
Perfect height, timing, angle, they nailed it all in order for your wing spiker to be able to pull off such an attack.
It was graceful, you moved so elegantly, it reminded Suna of silk, no, your flow was smoother than silk, smoother than water.
Every one of your moves looked calculated, as if you knew exactly which millisecond to move every millimeter of their body.
It was admirable, and everyone watching could admit it.
You quickly took the second set as well, automatically winning the round.
As the game came to an end and another team started to practice, the Inarizaki players went to their changing rooms, where they bumped into the Karasuno players.
“Hey, I didn’t know you were gonna be here!” Atsumu greeted you as he rubbed the back of his neck. “Nice game, you did really well!” He complimented you.
“Thanks! Can’t say the same for you, the jacket gave you away.” You pointed at his jacket with a water bottle in hand.
You had only met 15 minutes ago and yet, you seemed to just fit. You seemed as if you had known each other for years, as if you were already comfortable with one another, as if you were meant to be.
No, impossible.
Atsumu couldn't have been the one for you, not when the butterflies in Suna’s stomach turned into a whole zoo every time you smiled.
Impossible.
Atsumu got to you first, but it’s not the end.
Not yet.
You had made some small talk, but nothing too concrete, it was mainly playful teasing and fake annoyance.
You met some of the other players, like Osamu and Aran, but Suna couldn’t bring himself to go up to them.
He was stuck, his feet glued to the floor, no matter how much he wanted to go up to you.
The day came to an end and you exchanged numbers before heading your own way.
ACT 2
May 2011
A few days past and Suna couldn’t get you out of his mind, especially not after Atsumu talked about how funny you were, how nice you were to talk to, how cute you were in your new social media post, and especially after he talked about how you were going to come visit them this weekend.
“We could all go out for ice cream! And you could like, you know, hype me up a bit, be my wingmen.” Atsumu suggested on their walk home.
“I think us talking about you is the opposite of what you would want, but sure.” Osamu said as Aran agreed to the hangout.
“Suna?” Atsumu asked.
What about you? You coming?” He added with a love-struck smile on his face.
“Sure, don’t have anything better to do anyway.” Suna agreed.
The weekend came and you agreed to meet up at the train station, where you would have arrived. Suna got there right on time, when you got off the train.
Atsumu waved his hand up to guide you towards them all, you quickly spotted him and walked to all of them.
“Hi! How was your trip?” Aran first asked, after a round of greetings, trying to start a conversation.
“It was good, they had really good coffee on the train. Thank you for asking.” You answered, smiling brightly.
“Suppose you wouldn’t want to maybe swing by the cafe and get another one?” Atsumu suggested.
“Of course, if anything, I would love another coffee.” You explained as you all started walking to the local cafe.
“We haven’t met before, have we? I’m Y/l/n Y/n, but you can just call me Yn!” You greeted Suna for the first time.
It was the first time you had talked to him, but he still felt like you had been talking for decades before.
Something about your voice made it so familiar, so safe, comforting and yet, it was the first time you had ever even interacted.
“Suna Rintaro, but you can call me anything you’d like.” Like maybe your boyfriend. Suna introduced himself, both physically and mentally.
“Suna...that kind of reminds me of tsunamis, can I call you tsunami?” You asked, the bright smile appearing on your face again, but this time, he was the cause, he was on the receiving end of it, not Atsumu.
What’s even better, you gave him a nickname, one he hasn’t had before and you had just met, so you must feel comfortable around him, too, right? That’s what Suna thought.
“Of course!” He smiled back at you.
The day had gone by quicker than you had all expected, at the cafe, you had all ordered yourselves a cup of your favourite beverage alongside a cutesy dessert.
Suna could have sworn his heart skipped a beat when you offered for him to try a bite of yours after hearing he almost got the same one.
He also could have sworn that his heart sank when he saw Atsumu spoon feed you a bite of his dessert.
A part of him wished to be a part of that, but another cursed at himself for thinking that way. He was invited as a wingman, not as a date.
After the cafe, you went to the convenience store to get some snacks for the impromptu picnic you agreed on at the park.
“Here, you can use my jacket so you don’t sit on the grass and stain your skirt!” Atsumu beat Suna to his offer.
“Aww, thanks, tsumu.” You smiled as you accepted his jacket before you all sat down to form a wonky circle.
Tsumu. So he wasn’t the only one with a nickname.
“Hi, little guy.” You greeted the duck as you remembered ducks can eat grapes.
“Oo, here. You want some grapes?” You asked as you held one out towards him, who ate it right out of your hand.
Was it bad he was jealous of the duck?
“They love you!” Osamu commented as you got swarmed by some of the ducks.
“Who doesn’t?” You dramatically flipped your hair and laughed.
Exactly, who doesn’t.
After the picnic, you strolled along the park, Osamu and Aran leading the way, Atsumu and you right behind them, enveloped in your own conversation, and Suna in the back, trying his hardest not to eavesdrop.
Trying his hardest not to acknowledge the fall kept going, he hasn’t stopped it, he hasn’t even reached out his hand yet.
They all walked you to the station after the day, where you all said your goodbyes.
“Oh, before you go! Tsunami, I don’t have your number yet!” You ran after him, remembering right before you entered the station.
“Here.” You handed him your phone to put his number in.
“I’m gonna call you real quick so you know what my number is.” You said as you clicked the call button.
“There we go, all set! Can’t believe I almost left without it.” You smiled at him.
You were so pretty, the street lights illuminating you well, the slight breeze swaying your hair around as if it was dancing.
“Oh, it’s getting a bit chilly. Here.” he noticed your goosebumps from the cold and took off his jacket.
“You don’t have to do that, but thank you!” You smiled wide, bowing before you handed him your bag to hold as you wrapped yourself in his jacket.
Oh.
Suna had just given you his jacket. Not because he wanted to be romantic, it was purely on instinct, treating you well and looking out for you was pure instinct.
Everything he did for you today, it felt so natural, he didn’t have to force anything.
It didn’t help his brain that you looked beyond beautiful in his jacket. It wasn’t too big on you, but it did look a bit baggy, as it was 2 or 3 sizes bigger than what you were used to.
“It’s really comfy! Thank you! I’ll make sure to bring it back when I come to visit! Or you could visit and I could give it to you then!” You explained, happily, already making plans in your head.
“No need to thank me, really, and don’t worry, keep it as long as you’d like and give it back whenever. See you in Miyagi next time?” he asked, hopeful.
“Great! I’ll text Atsumu on the ride home.”
Atsumu.
He had extended his hand, but he was still far from the falling it seemed.
“Right, have a nice trip home.” He smiled as you said your final goodbyes.
He didn’t want to say goodbye, this was the first time they had been alone.
The station was practically empty, the twins and Aran left before she came to ask for Suna’s number and it was the first time he got to talk one-on-one, without any annoying Atsumus around.
“Make sure to text me if you got home safely, please.” Suna said as you gasped dramatically.
“My lord, what a gentleman, worrying about my safety?” You asked, holding in your laugh.
“Yes, actually.” Suna answered with a light chuckle, causing you to let out the laugh you were holding in.
“Ah, Tsunami, you’re too kind. First your jacket, now you’re asking me to text you when I get home? What are you? My boyfriend?” You asked.
I wish I was.
“That’s nothing, really. For the Suna Rintaro boyfriend package, you would have gotten so much more.” He chuckled.
Wait, is he...shooting his shot?
“Ah, I bet. Anyway, thank you for everything, see you later, Tsunami!” You said before you ran into the station.
Nope, he didn’t even get to attempt his shot.
And so, once again, he felt like he was stuck, his feet glued to the floor, no matter how much he wanted to go after you.
ACT 3
June 2011
After a couple of weeks, you had agreed to come over again. This time, Atsumu didn’t invite them, so Suna had no clue.
It was only after you showed up to practice as they were putting things away, that they knew you were coming.
“Yn-chan!” Atsumu threw the volleyball into the cart before sprinting towards you and scooping you up in an embrace.
“I missed you.” he said after he put you back on the ground.
“Missed you too, Tsumu.” You said as you stepped on your tiptoes to kiss the Inarizaki setter.
He was certain this time, he had seen the fall, and he wasn’t there to catch in time.
Once again, he was stuck, his feet glued to the floor, no matter how much he wanted to go up to you and steal you away from Atsumu.
You greeted the other players and walked up to Suna, to bring him back his jacket, thanking him once more before Atsumu came over and asked you if you were ready to leave.
“Only if you are.” You nodded, looking up at Atsumu.
“Well, see you, tsunami! Good night!” You said your goodbyes before going with the twins to their house.
That night, as you fell asleep in Atsumu’s arms, Suna fell asleep with his jacket in his arms, the smell of your perfume still strong.
He was too late.
Suna knew that better than anyone, to him, no matter how fast he could be, he knew he couldn’t keep up, he couldn’t catch in time.
You’re a fool if you think you can beat gravity itself.
And he cursed at himself for being a fool in love who thought he could beat Atsumu.
ACT 4
October 2011
Months had gone by and while Atsumu and you were still going strong, Suna’s feelings never went away, if anything, they only worsened with time.
They had hung out so much, became such good friends, and yet he knew he could never have you, he was too late, he couldn’t catch you before you fell for Atsumu, no matter how much he wanted to.
He made peace with it, what else was he to do? But it was still painful, every kiss, every contact, everything he saw you do, he wished that somehow, he could switch places with Atsumu.
You all went to an amusement park together once, and you got mistaken for a couple, it was a moment that he could pretend he could say yes, but alas, it was just a moment, because the painful reminder came along and said “Nope, this cutie’s with me.”
He was so proud, who wouldn’t be?
Y/l/n Y/n was the most beautiful, kind, smart person Suna had ever met, he thought that of course anyone would be proud to be able to call you theirs.
You were the dictionary definition of perfect, except for a small flaw, you were dating the wrong guy.
You seemed like they were in heaven, until one day, you walked to Suna’s house with tears in your eyes and wet sleeves from wiping the tears away, you were practically shaking, your voice cracking when you asked to come in.
With no hesitation, he pulled you into an embrace as he closed the door.
“It’s okay, let it all out, you’re safe here.” He whispered into your ear as you continued to weep into his shirt.
You stayed like that for a couple of minutes until you calmed down, until you told him what had happened with Atsumu.
You had gotten into a fight, the third one this month, apparently, and it was bad.
So bad, that you broke up.
You didn’t want to burden the middle blocker, but you had to wait for the train, so you had hoped he wouldn’t mind.
Of course he didn't mind, he was happy to be of help, happy to hear the news, but he was still heartbroken, heartbroken because you were too.
That’s when he knew, there was one thing worse than not catching the fall, seeing what happens after you don’t catch.
He had watched you fall, and now he had watched you shatter.
But he had hoped that maybe he could watch you assemble back into your former self, the happy yn he had known to love.
Key word: Hoped.
After that night, you didn’t talk much, your conversations becoming less and less frequent, your visits stopped, since it was just a painful reminder of what happened with the older miya twin.
Soon, you had grown apart, you had grown from strangers to good friends to acquaintances and now back to strangers.
That wasn’t the road he had hoped you would go on.
ACT 5
January 2013
Nationals in Tokyo.
Suna Rintaro, middle blocker, 2nd year.
Miya Atsumu, setter, 2nd year.
Y/l/n Y/n, manager, 2nd year.
You were all in the same city for the first time in what felt like ages, but you didn’t know, not until Suna agreed to accompany Aran and Osamu on your way to get coffee for the team.
There you were
You didn’t look like you grew, at least not much from the looks of it, you were wearing your old Karasuno jacket and black leggings. Most importantly, you still had your signature sunshine smile.
You weren’t alone.
You were accompanied by two guys, one of them had his phone out and was talking to the barista while the black haired guy tried to hide his clear smile and blush from you.
Your head tilted to make eye contact with the guy, who was avoiding it. He put his hand over your eyes in a joking manner, a mix of your laughter filling the cafe.
“Yn.” Osamu noticed.
“Should we go up and say hi?” Aran asked, once he turned around to see their old friend.
“No.” Suna panicked.
“For Atsumu’s sake.” Suna added, not wanting the two to know why he really doesn’t want to go up to you.
He didn’t want to see you happy with someone else, not again.
“Fair, but who are they with? They seem pretty close.” Aran observed.
“That’s Kageyama Tobio, he was in the All-Japan Youth Camp with Tsumu. He's pretty scary on the court, from what I’ve heard.” Osamu answered.
“Wait, Tobio? Isn’t that the setter from that quick attack you and Tsumu practiced?” Aran asked. “That’s the one.” Osamu answered.
Another setter...do you have a type?
“Aran.” The barista called out to the guys to come take their orders. They went to get their orders as Suna tried to sneak a photo of Yn.
“Getting something to fire Tsumu up even more? Rin, you are one cruel sadist.” Osamu said.
He wasn’t collecting it to hurt anyone but himself, if anything, he was a masochist.
Just as he was going to take the photo, you turned around, facing the camera dead on.
Before they could panic, you turned around to say something to the two guys before turning to the barista and ordering something yourself.
“I think I saw an old friend that I want to catch up with, so you two go on without me, I’ll catch up with you guys soon.” Yn told Kageyama and Sugawara before taking her coffee from the orders in Suga’s hands.
“Oh okay, make sure you get back safe, text us if you need anything.” Sugawara said.
“We’ll text you the address if we go anywhere.” Kageyama added before he ruffled your hair and left the cafe with Sugawara right behind him.
You told the barista the order you had memorized from last year.
Once you got it, you thanked the barista and quickly made your way towards the middle blocker.
“Guys, what should we-Guys?” Suna asked as he looked around to see that he was left alone. His phone pinged.
From: Samu
Sorry, we panicked. Tell us if we need to call you to get you out of the situation.
Bastards.
“I can’t blame you for wanting to catch my beauty but if it was purely to catch up, you could’ve just walked up to me, Tsunami.” You said as you approached Suna.
“Yn! Long time, no see.” Suna said, nervously smiling.
“Do you have a few minutes to spare? I would love to catch up. I even got your usual!” You smiled at the love struck idiot as he nodded.
You sat down and Suna quickly sent a text telling Osamu and Aran to go on without him and that he’ll catch up as soon as he can.
“So, how have you been?” Suna asked.
“Me?” You asked.
“Oh, I don’t know if you heard or not, but last year, right before nationals, I got a knee injury so I haven’t been able to play volleyball for some time now.” You continued.
“But thankfully, the boys let me be a co-manager for this year while my injury completely heals.” You smiled.
You always knew how to turn a negative into a positive, it was like a gift really. Suna always admired you for it, as he never saw the glass as half full, always half empty.
“I’m sorry to hear that, the injury I mean, I know how much you love to play.” He said.
“Yeah, but I can start playing soon, the doctors said I’ll be in tip top position before next year's tournaments start.” You smiled.
“What about you?” You asked, stirring your drink with your straw.
“I’ve been good, missed you a lot, we all have.” Suna answered, not knowing what to say.
“I've missed you guys too.” You looked up from your drink. “More than I care to admit.” You added.
“Anyway, anything new?” You asked “Projects, partner, anything?” You added.
His ears perked up. Partner?
“No, nothing new, single as ever.” Suna forced a smile on his face, not wanting to ask, but he did anyway. “You?”
“Partner? No, nothing, at least nothing serious enough to count. One of the Karasuno guys told me that one of them has a crush on me, but I wouldn’t know.” You smiled.
“And do you like him?” He asked, crossing his fingers under the table.
You’re a fool if you think you can beat gravity itself.
Suna knew that better than anyone, to him, no matter how fast he could be, he knew he couldn’t keep up, he couldn’t catch in time.
He knew.
But that didn’t mean he wouldn’t hope.
“I guess? I don’t know.” You smiled.
The exact smile you had when you used to talk about Atsumu.
Suna knew that your smile was the start of the fall, another fall he would be too late to catch.
ACT 6
July 2022
Watching something fall always happens in slow motions.
Trying to catch it seems possible, it’s falling slowly after all.
But things are never that easy.
Because you, yourself go in slow motion too.
And you’re a fool if you think you can beat gravity itself.
Suna knew that better than anyone, to him, no matter how fast he could be, he knew he couldn’t keep up, he couldn’t catch in time.
He knew.
He also knew that there was one thing worse than not catching the fall, seeing what happens after you don’t catch.
The shatter.
He had watched you fall, and he had watched you shatter.
He saw you fall once more, and he had seen you shatter again.
He was so enveloped in you, so focused on you that he didn’t notice.
He was the one falling.
He watched you down at the aisle, he realized there was no way he could be up there with you, no, he had to be in the 3rd row, next to the other guests.
That’s what he was, a guest.
Not the groom he had hoped to be, just a mere guest.
That’s when Suna realized, he was the one falling, and there was no one there to catch him.
And if there’s one thing worse than not catching the fall, it’s the shattering at the end.

NOT PROOFREAD
ACT 1
Tsukishima never understood the art exhibits. They all looked like pointless scribbles, just random combinations of different colors and shapes. All of it was ridiculous to him.
What was more ridiculous, was you, who led the exhibit.
“Art and culture reflect Miyagi’s dynamism and diversity.” I said as Iguided the group of tourists around the room.
“The prefecture’s rural character comes alive in seasonal rites to ward off evil or wish for good harvests. Artisans produce handcrafts unique to this region, including kokeshi dolls which originated in the hot spring areas of Miyagi.” I said as I raised my hand to point at the dolls on display.
“Miyagi art also embraces modernity.” I added.
“Sendai boasts a world-famous contemporary media center, and innovative museums can be found throughout the prefecture.” You informed the guests.
“Sendai hosts major music events and is home to venues offering live music performances of many genres.” I continued my speech, walking around the museum and trying my best to keep the audience engaged.
After my tour was over, I got to go on my lunch break.
“Manaka-san, wanna have lunch together?” I asked my co-worker from the history department.
“I already made plans to have lunch with Tsukishima-san, but you’re more than welcome to join!” He offered.
“You sure he won’t mind?” I asked, the image of the tall blond conjuring in my mind.
I can’t recall if I’ve ever even seen him not look angry.
“He won’t, I promise.” He assured as we made our way to the table.
“Hey, Tsukishima. Hope you don’t mind. I asked y/l/n-san to join.” Manaka said as he sat down next to the blond.
“Done as you’d like, it doesn’t matter to me.” Tsukishima explained as he adjusted his glasses.
“Oh, I’ve been meaning to ask you, did the manager tell you anything about the new samurai collection that’s coming next week?” Manaka asked, turning his head to Tsukishima.
“Yeah, he asked me to supervise the exhibit.” Tsukishima said, staying monotone.
“Really? That’s so cool!” I said, fascinated by the conversation.
“Not really, it’s quite a nerve-wrecking process. Of course you wouldn’t understand, your job is explaining what circles mean.” He smirked as he took a sip of his coffee.
“What did you just say?” I asked, my jaw clenching at his gaze. He tilted his head up, as if to look down on me.
“You didn’t hear me? Do I have to crouch down to your heights?” he asked, leaning forward towards the table.
“Hear me now?” He asked, the smirk still prominent on his face.
“I heard you just right, you giraffe.” I sarcastically smiled at him.
“Giraffe? Good one, haven’t heard that one like a thousand times. At least try to get your kindergarten shapes and colors brain to be a bit more innovative, a bit more unique with your jabs.” He teased.
“Asami-san, we still on for drinks tomorrow after work?” I asked, not taking my eyes off of the blond.
“Yeah, sure, that would be the plan.” Manaka nervously answered.
“See you then.” I said as I began to stand up.
“Where are you going?” Tsukishima asked in a teasing tone.
“Lost my appetite.” I answered, already turning away from the two and walking towards the exit.
ACT 2
“I didn’t know you two were such good friends!” Manaka explained as he saw the tall blonde having a conversation with the fashion designer.
“We used to go to the same high school, we even played on the same volleyball team.” Tsukishima said as he looked over his papers.
“You said we can get the finished costume for the opening exhibit?” Tsukishima asked his senpai.
“I can bring it the night before, if that’s alright with you guys.” Asahi said as he got his notebook out to look at his calendar.
“Do you have a model yet?” he added.
“That’s what I came to say, the model just said they can’t come in due to an unexpected illness.” Manaka said.
“Great, another problem.” Tsukishima adjusted his glasses as he wrote down a reminder to find a new model.
“Pardon, but you look about the right height and size for the samurai, and who better to model your creation than you?” Manaka asked, looking at Asahi.
“Me? No, no, I could ne-” “His nickname in high school was samurai.” Tsukisihima smirked as he interrupted the former ace.
“Perfect, you can be the model!” Manaka happily said before walking towards the other workers.
ACT 3
“Quite the crowd you got here.” I said to Manaka, who was standing beside me.
“Well, we did have a pretty good group working on the exhibit.” Manaka said as Tsukishima walked over to the big screen.
“Samurai were the hereditary military nobility and officer caste of medieval and early-modern Japan from the late 12th century to their abolition in 1876.” He started presenting as he gestured to the man in the samurai costume next to him.
“We couldn’t get any actual samurai, but we hope our Asahi-san here will do. He’s nowhere near as courageous, but at least he looks the part, right?” Tsukishima said, earning a laugh from the tourists.
I never would have thought he was a good public speaker, after all, all he did was throw around mean comments and sulk, but I guess everyone really does have their customer service persona.
After the exhibit, Manaka complimented the blond as he and the samurai approached us.
“Didn’t expect you to be capable of making people laugh.” I said, earning myself a death glare.
“Oh, he has always been funny, you just need to overlook his saltiness.” The samurai spoke up. “Asahi Azumane.” He extended his hand. I shook it and introduced myself before Manaka spoke up.
“So, you coming to Tsukishima’s match this weekend?” “Oh, I won’t be in town for then, but I’ll always cheer for my precious kohai.” Asahi smiled.
“Match?” I asked, furrowing my brows. “Our dear Tsukishima here plays volleyball, you didn’t know?” Manaka asked.
“You? Play sports? But you’re such a nerd.” I questioned, holding in my chuckle.
“One wouldn’t assume, would they.” Manaka laughed.
“But he’s really good, couldn’t have asked for a better middle blocker myself.” Asahi said, patting the blond’s shoulders before quickly removing it when he saw Tsukishima’s death glare.
“Tsukishima-san, could you come here for a minute?” A co-worker yelled, to which Tsukihima excused himself and walked over to the katana display.
“So, you wanna come to the match and see for yourself how good he is?” Manaka asked. “I can pick you up and we can go together.” He smiled.
“Sure, looking forward to it!” I said.
ACT 4
“Yamaguchi Tadashi.” The green haired man introduced himself. “And I’m Yachi Hitoka.” The blonde girl beside him said.
“You two have known Tsukishima since high school?” I asked as I leaned against the railing, next to the girl.
“Tadashi-kun and Tsukki have known each other longer, but I met them in high school and we’ve stayed pretty close friends since.” Yachi answered.
“Tsukki?” I almost laughed, not believing such a cold man could have such a cute nickname.
“I started calling him that and then everyone started doing it too and it stuck.” Yamaguchi explained.
“I didn’t miss anything, did I?” A tall blonde approached Yamaguchi before greeting everyone.
“No, they haven’t started yet.” Yamaguchi explained.
“Oh, hi, we haven’t met before, I’m Tsukishima Akiteru, Kei’s older brother.” The older guy introduced himself.
“I didn’t know he had a brother.” Manaka said, from beside me. “I guess we’re both learning things about Tsukki today.” I said, trying out the nickname for myself.
The players made their way onto the court.
“Go, Tsukki!” Yamaguchi yelled, causing the tall blond to cringe. Tsukishima just ignored their cheers, until we all joined in.
“Go, Tsukki!” All 5 of us yelled out, finally earning his attention.
He slowly turned to the bleachers. He cursed under his breath.
“What is Y/l/n-san doing here?” He whispered to himself.
The opposing team got the first point, right after Tsukishima messed up his block.
“Isn’t he supposed to be scary good?” You whispered to Manaka. “Oh, he is, he doesn’t seem to be himself currently.” Yachi explained, overhearing you.
“Maybe he’s nervous his coworkers are here.” Akiteru joked.
Is he?
A couple points later and the Sendai Frogs called for a timeout.
“Tsukki-dude, what is up with you today?” Koganegawa teased. “Is that the coworker you find oh so annoying, up on the bleachers?” He continued joking.
“Yeah, right.” Tsukishima said after letting out a ‘tsk’.
“Oh my, does our little Tsukki have a crush?” Kyotani joined in on the teasing.
“No, why would I?” Tsukishima kept denying.
“I don’t care about your personal love lives, I care about your volleyball performance, so, if you really do like them, maybe try to impress them, Tsukishima?” The coach said as they continued the game.
What the coach said stuck to Tsukishima, as if he flipped the switch and soon, they took the first set.
“See? Scary good.” Yamaguchi said as they cheered for the team. “I guess so.” I smiled.
While they talked, I saw a guy with blonde hair with black bangs styled up, his appearance reminding me of a rooster. He made eye contact with me and waved at me.
I was taken back by that, and so was Tsukishima as he looked at us, waiting to see the reaction.
I looked around and waved back when I saw no one else looking at the setter.
“Why did you do that?” Tsukishima asked. “Jealous, are we?” Koganegawa teased, earning one of Tsukishima’s infamous eyerolls.
“Whatever, concentrate on the game.” The hypocrite spoke out.
The game ended with a 2:1 win for the Sendai Frogs.
We all went down to congratulate the team, when Koganegawa suddenly stepped forward to greet me.
“You must be our dear Tsukki’s co-worker! I’m Koganegawa Kanji, but you can just call me Kogane...or Kanji!” He shook my hand as I introduced myself back.
“So, how did you like the match? Enjoy it?” He asked.
“Yeah, it was really nice to Tsukki in his natural habitat, you know, outside of work.” I said, adding a cutesy tone to the nickname to tease the man standing behind Koganegawa.
“Don’t call me like that.” Tsukishima said, his jaw tightened.
“Like what?” “All cutesy, it doesn’t fit you.” he answered, finally turning away from his best friend and facing me and Koganegawa.
“I think it does!” Koganegawa said. “Aww, thanks, Kogane!” I smiled, “Nice to see someone with taste.” I joked.
“Hey, y/l/n-san, we were planning on going to get dinner after the match, wanna join us?” Yamaguchi offered.
“No, they wouldn’t.” “Would love to!” Me and Tsukishima answered at the same time.
ACT 5
“You are such a lightweight.” I laughed at Manaka. “Am not, you are!” He scrunched his eyebrows and leaned onto a panicked Yachi.
Yamaguchi seeing that, leaned Manaka’s head towards him and away from Yachi, so as to not make her uncomfortable.
“I am not! And I didn’t even get anything to drink!” I defended myself.
“I think we should get you home, buddy.” Yamaguchi laughed as Manaka started blabbering into his shoulder.
“What’s your address? We’ll drop you off on our way home.” Yachi asked the drunk man, who was now half-asleep on her boyfriend’s shoulder.
“You’re leaving already?” Akiteru frowned. “Yeah, early morning.” Yachi said with a matching frown.
“Oh well, good night, have a safe trip home!” Akiteru said as we said our goodbyes.
Now, the only ones left were myself, Tsukishima, who was sitting opposite me and his brother on my left.
“So, how about you guys then? Can you stay for another round?” Akiteru asked.
“I can, I have a bus home every hour.” You answered. “Sure.” Tsukishima added.
“Great! I, on the other hand, unfortunately, can not, since I also have to get up pretty early tomorrow for a meeting.” The older Tsukishima said before standing up.
“Have a nice night!” He said as he walked out of the restaurant after paying his tab.
Tsukishima gulped before looking away and taking a sip from his drink.
“Don’t make me regret this, but good game today.” I spoke up. “Make you regret what? Complimenting me?” Tsukishima asked.
“Yeah, you’re still an asshole, the fact that you can jump doesn’t change that.” I answered, downing my own drink.
“You want me to walk you to the station?” Tsukishima asked as he took his jacket, still not making eye contact.
Was he actually being nice? Was it because I complimented him? In any case, I didn’t want to make him go back, so instead of the usual teasing I would give him, I gave him a simple answer.
“Sure.” I answered as I took my stuff.
“You know, if you opened your mind a bit, I think you would actually like the art exhibits.” I said as we walked towards the bus stop.
“Yeah right, it all look-” “But I understand how opening something so small can be hard.” I interrupted him. I could practically hear the annoyance on his face.
“Fine, I’ll see one, but only one of them.” He said after a couple of moments.
“Great! I’ll give you a solo tour next week!” I said as the bus drove up to the stop.
ACT 6
Tsukishima still doesn’t understand the art exhibits. They all still look like pointless scribbles, just random combinations of different colors and shapes. All of it is still ridiculous to him.
But mainly, he didn’t understand why these artists tried to make something beautiful.
“It’s not just pointless scribbles! Beauty is all in the eye of the beholder!” I defended as he chuckled.
He didn’t understand, because “It could never look as good as you.” He mumbled under his breath.
“What was that?” I asked. “Nothing.” He smiled.
“Anyway, most of these pieces aren’t about technique, it’s about how they make you feel, you know?” I asked as we strolled around the space.
“But nothing could make me feel better than your smile.” He mumbled.
“Okay, now I heard that.”
“No, you didn’t.
“Yes, I did.”
“No, you didn’t.
“Yes, I di-”
