Reblogging because I never elaborated on why this counts as humans are space orcs or why this would be fun for my story.
Humans are viewed as extremely violent and barbaric by the masses due to the rumors being spread about them evolving from a “death planet.” So when humans share their many forms and styles of music with the universe, it leaves some even more fearful and some significantly more intrigued than anything. I mean of course violent music is a characteristic of many species, but humans have hymns and lullabies that are absolutely tragic to listen to!
Think about it- “White Winter Hymnal” by fleet foxes literally describes disembodied heads of dead people falling into the snow, rolling away from their bodies and staining the snow “red like strawberries.” The original has a very lighthearted tone while many covers of it are very mystical and leave a feeling of dread in your stomach.
“Ring around the rosie” is a CHILDREN’S SONG about the bubonic plague where the kids spin in a circle holding hands and then fall to the floor. But they’re smiling and laughing while doing it.
We even have ways to make songs creepy if they aren’t already by putting them in different keys. Of course people will expect our music to be barbaric, but our shifting of tone and lightheartedness when describing horrific world events is just… chilling. To the species of the universe that are already paranoid, it would be terrifying!
Not to mention we have working songs that sound similar to war songs. How can we be so excited to throw things, stomp our feet, and move around sporadically when this sound is so loud you can actually feel it in your chest?
And lastly.
How are humans simple and barbaric, but have such intricately made music? How is there such a variety when most of the universe has deemed them primitive? Intricate music with such varying genres and styles is a trait of hyper advanced civilizations in this universe, so how does a species that has barely joined the universe already have such a rich music culture?
Like I said, this is important for my story!
Singing
In my sci-fi world, each species has, in some form or fashion, a culture. Each culture has their own practices. Humans dance and sing, and often times these two things are considered “barbaric” because of how the term “music” varies across cultures that value it. In some cultures, “music” is a loud, booming chorus that consists of beating drums and stomping feet and roars into the sky. In some cultures, “music” is a form of communication. Humming and singing is deeply ingrained in one culture in particular. The human tongue cannot produce the same noises these avian creatures can, so like many, humans call them something else in their language. Some of us call them harpies while others call them avians. Nevertheless, the flying bird folk are ones who value all types of music. This is important in my story later on.

Planet Classification: A simplified guide by the ISC for public ease of use
1. Does the planet contain life prior to investigation? *See ‘what is life? A guide by the ISC’
A. Yes - go to #2
B. No
2. Are any existing life forms sentient? *See our sentience guide here!
A. Yes - Go to #3
B. No - Go to #4
3. Rate the technological progress of this society
1. Primitive (No technology)
2. Not quite advanced
3. Advanced (Has established electrical technology)
4. What category of life does this planet contain?
A. Level 0 (single celled organisms) - Go to 6
B. Level 1 (Fungal organisms) - Go to 6
C. Level 2 (Non-moving, multi cellular organisms) - See guide
D. Level 3 (Animate organisms) - Go to 5
E. Level E (Animate, areal organisms or organisms that don’t otherwise fit into other categories) - Go to 5
5. Scan this planet for the following hazards:
This planet contains:
A. More than 1/4 venomous/poisonous life
B. More than one million life forms larger than a gaaltath ||read: roughly 8ft tall, which was common for life at the time of screening earth||
C. more than 0.5% argon in atmosphere
D. Less than [insert unit im too lazy to research rn] oxygen available
E. An unsafe eating on the ISC certified disease control scale.
(The list goes on to about 50 different things)
If more than five of these are true, see guide. This is not a definitive list, always allow your commissioner to properly scan your planet.
If less than 5 of these are chosen, move forward to 8.
6. Does this planet contain a breathable atmosphere for the majority of workers?
A. Yes - Go to 7
B. No - See guide
7. Roughly scale the weather patterns of this planet. Does this planet have frequent, severe weather?

A. Yes - see guide
B. No - see guide
Classifications Guide
5: Class D - DEATH PLANET. This planet is not safe nor sustainable for mining, colonization, terraformation, or anything else involving landing. Due to this planet’s ability to sustain life, the ethics committee of the ISC has determined that it is unethical to remove, collect, or otherwise terminate life on this planet. Do not land here. Do not enter the atmosphere. Don’t even orbit. In fact, leave the entire solar system! Better safe than sorry. DO NOT ENTER THE DEATH PLANET.
6.B: Class N/E - this planet does not have a safe atmosphere, but is safe to land on for its lack of life. This planet is not eligible for bioterraforming due to its lack of weather and atmosphere.
7.B: Class N - This planet does not contain life and has been deemed safe for landing! Congratulations! Long term stay in this planet is not recommended, but it is a viable place for a quick rest stop! This planet is eligible for mining and for bioterraforming should water be discovered.
8B: Class F - planet doesn’t have viable atmosphere, do not land and do not harvest without proper protections in place.
9B: Class C -This planet is safe to land upon and harvest, so long as proper bacterial protections and managements are in place. Do not harm the native life. Any violatiors will be prosecuted by the ISC under the Interspecies Federal Trade Agreement.
Worldbuilding
If there’s anything I suck at more than anything in fiction, it’s world building.
So let’s get started.
The general idea of my sci fi world is that Earth has just joined the stars. While this is public knowledge, there is very little known about its dominating species, “humans.” However, Earth has been classified as a Class D planet.
Every planet in the universe can fall under certain labels and classifications based on their abilities to sustain life. N Class planets are incapable of sustaining life, and are what make up most of the universe. Whenever a planet with life is found, it is first classified by what kind of life inhabits it. The two options are sentient and non-sentient. Then, if sentience is recognized: advanced or primitive? A society becomes advanced when they have an established connection to technology.
If no sentient species is established, then the planet is analyzed for threat levels of wildlife and disease. This is their “danger class,” and trumps all other classes. If the danger class is high enough, it is then considered a “death planet” and thus is much too dangerous to land on.
The Interstellar Safety Commission is the governing body responsible for this, and publicizes information about such on all planets that are candidates for resource harvesting and/or colonization. They also do this for private companies who are hoping to mine out various planets.
This organization has existed for almost 30,000 years.
Earth was the subject of this classification just before human’s began building civilizations. At the time, not only did the federation find that the planet had, at one point, been hit by an asteroid, but that the planet was teeming with violent creatures. The federation was newer at the time, it’s many members being unfamiliar with the many shapes that life can take. Thus, sights like the glyptodonts and prehistoric hippos were new and unfathomably terrifying.
Because of the mass amount of planets across the universe, typically the solar system around a “death planet” will be quickly archived. Organizations that apply for legal planet mining can easily find new ones nowadays as tech has grown significantly since the start of the ISC. So Earth was largely forgotten, as was our solar system. So much so that our little corner of the Milky Way was one of many little things that was forgotten. This is a loophole that many exploit but that will be discussed later.
Because there was no observation of our planet after this, Earth was pretty much left to evolve in peace. 10,000 years later, it’s the year 2088 and Earth has joined the stars. Upon reviewing the planet we came from, the ISC was baffled by our ability to survive, much less evolve on what is largely considered a “death planet.” Due to this information being public, many rumors started about the human race. We’ve been amongst the stars for almost a decade, which is nothing in the great span of the universe.
Humans have barely begun diplomatic missions with the universe, as our tech is extremely primitive in comparison to most alien tech. This contributes to the grand mystery around humans.
The main misconception is that humans are naturally aggressive and deadly. They are also all huge, hulking creatures with sharp teeth and a kick like no other. As time passes in space, and we learn more about our place among the stars, many of us learn one great truth about our impression on the universe.
Humans.
Are space orcs.

Protagonist
Name: Cyrus Walker
Age: 19
Gender: Male
Species: Human
Story: Cyrus is a young adult male, hailing from planet earth. Earth is a newer planet to join the stars, thus Cyrus never expected to be where he was. He remembers Earth and everything about it, but he had to run from home because he wasn’t safe. He ended up being trapped on a cargo ship, sneaking out after they landed on the next planet. He stole an oxygen mask from one of the diplomats and altered it to fit human needs before he escaped. However, he was captured by a group of traffickers and sold to an illegal fighting ring. With not much known about humans, he was expected to be a spectacular new fit and didn’t actually fight for over six months. Finally, they threw him into the ring (since they could no longer justify advertising their shiny new human) and he whooped ass. The ring moved from planet to planet for a number of years, and he slowly began to lose his mind as he had no knowledge of any alien languages, and thus was alone.
During this time, Cyrus met an avian like alien. She was a guard for the fighters and was relatively scared of him. However, this guard eventually turned out to be a member of an undercover unit looking to break up the ring. She was kind to him, and despite their language barrier, she befriended him. Upon gaining his trust, she got him a translator just hours before the ring was broken up.
After this, Cyrus used the key he’d stolen from his friend to escape and made a run for it. On his way out he ran into a room where he found his alien friend cornered, protecting two others in her unit from the man that had abused him the most. Seeing red, Cyrus killed the man. Upon realizing this, he backed out like a scared animal and hid in a large crate on a loading dock. The crate was then moved to a cargo ship, where he hid for several weeks. He’d broken his only oxygen mask at this point, and knew he couldn’t leave this ship without danger of suffocating himself.
So in the meantime, our boy snuck around the ship and stole food and water and such, hiding in a small space in the storage area that he was able to sleep in.
However, his little escapades didn’t go unnoticed. And even though he was eating and drinking, the alien food scraps simply weren’t enough for him to live off of. He eventually contracts a disease that leaves him weak and vulnerable. This happening around the time the crewmen realize that something is amiss. They’ve been seeing Cyrus’ shadow slinking around the ship, barely missing him. They’ve also noticed their missing supplies, and some have even been leaving out extra food in hopes of spotting him. Finally, they catch him on a camera running into the storage/loading room and search for him.
Which is where our story begins :)
Characters
I have a hard time creating characters on my own so here goes nothing. I need characters to create my Sci-Fi universe I guess instead of posting half assed prompts.
This is the start of a thread of each one of my characters as I make them up :3

Im relatively arachnophobic and it’s been an issue for a long ass time but I’ve felt bad about it recently after I screeched and woke up my mom a few weeks ago. So the spider in the bathroom has barely been allowed to live. I feel like we’ve come to a mutual agreement though. As long as it doesn’t move while I’m looking at it or entering/exiting the bathroom, I won’t scream bloody murder and bring the hitman in. I don’t have to deal with the feeling that crawls down my back when I see a spider move, and the spider gets to live another day.

It had been so long since that day. The day chalky, ashen tears spilled from my mask and cracked my face. The day I had possessed that wretched child. The day I had lost my entire being, all because of their premonitions of me. Why would someone like me have any reason to hurt these people? Hurt this kingdom? Upon the wood, they strung me high, puppeting me to play the antagonist the masses so desperately needed to justify their own pain. I’m so tired of this anger. This need for vengeance, yet I haven’t a moment of peace so long as those pitiful drones mindlessly follow their leader.
I raise my eyes and my head, dark sclera and irises meeting the volley of ships and planes. All this… for me? After all these years, it was a miracle that they even remembered my name. I had played their games many a time, watching with scrutiny as I expertly mutilated hundreds of thousands of lives with so many spells. The circles under my pupils sighed tiredly, dragging themselves closed as I shut my mind off. I’d never done this before. This precise of a spell was unheard of. This complex of magic was something that took me thousands of days to ponder… and I had nothing but time to ponder. Technology was far advanced now, I expected magic to be too. But time seems to have worn down the use of magic in favor of its much more reliable counterpart. Their spells and shields were pitiful at best. There was a girl there, dressed up and down in gold and medals and runes and simply reeking of magic.
Our eyes met and I smiled somberly at her, barely moving from my position at the center of the universe. Her magic far surpassed the entirety of the world’s forces, yet she gazed upon me with fear in her eyes. Gold and fire and ambition and compassion were even stronger than her magic, yet she feared me. Her heart’s energy was welcoming… warm. But even a volley of pure souls as rare as hers couldn’t stop me now. So I sent her my mind, my magic.
Im sorry you have to witness this, child.
”What are you?” She said shakily.
Thousands of years and nobody knows still. How predictable. I smiled. We were miles apart yet my words were clear in her mind. I watched as her allies leaned in, concerned for her.
Im sorry you must witness this. If it makes you feel any better, you won’t have a hard time defeating me when I’m done. I projected humorously. You will learn my story, and I will allow you to… slay me.
“What could you possibly have to gain?” I smiled at her silently, finally opening my mouth. Ancient power flowed from my body, black and fluid as it leaked from between my teeth. My tired head turned up to the sky and I saw their hearts. Their sins. Their greed. Their hatred. All eclipsed a thousand times by my own pain. They deserved this. They would die and their memories would be in my mind forever. Only I would remember their cruelty, their evil, even a thousand years from now.
“Burn.”
And they did. All the cruel, evil people burned. I had once played judge, once jury, and once executioner. This time, I finally had the freedom to do all three. To purge the world of his cruel descendants. I was free.
I too, burned.
The power of a spell is inversely proportional to the amount of words in its name. You, hated and exiled, invented the first single word spell:
