Whew, maybe a new approach
Whoops, accidentally abandoned this account. Shit happens. I'm getting ready to go on vacation but when I come back, I'd like to maybe try approaching this account in another way. I want to share the work I do, and I want to be able to help people directly. With the fact that I track and dismantle anti-LGBTQ propaganda and disinformation in the U.S., what sort of content do y'all want to see from me, other than publishing work? Is there a certain way that publishing my work here would be more helpful? What are y'all hoping to get out of an account like mine? Comment or submit stuff, I want to hear from you.

As contributors attempted to put the Times' feet to the fire for its abysmal response, it stayed rooted in denial and continued to neglect the letter sent directly from its contributors, or rather, chose to conflate the two.
But as other journalists point out, this denial reflects poorly on the NYT's status as a "paper of record."
Tumblr media
For more in depth coverage, check out my latest:
So the New York Times received two separate open letters from hundreds of people and organizations, including a huge amount of its own contributors, readers and subscribers, trying to hold the "paper of record" accountable for its anti-trans bias that has had real world consequences. Both directly highlighted observable issues with pinpoint precision and one even offered action items to the paper to improve its coverage. How did the NYT respond? With denial and defensiveness, within a fraction of the time it took to draft the letters.
Tumblr media
But this doesn't look "deep and empathetic" to me.

I don't know how anyone can take right-wing news seriously. They literally flashed up a chunk of footage of people standing around with signs and chanting and then go "THIS IS JUST LIKE JANUARY 6TH" What level of brainrot do you have to have?

There's always something you can do to be an ally to your trans friends and siblings. Sometimes it just requires a little creativity (and a sense of humor; if you don't laugh out here you'll cry).

This is totally good and normal and definitely wouldn't result in an increase of anti-trans violence and death at all.

Newsflash: The Right Still Hates Cis Gays, Too
Groups such as Gays for Trump and Gays Against Groomers represent how some LGBTQ (though mostly cis and very rarely the T) people who are otherwise privileged turn their backs on their community for comfort and status. With trans people being all the rage right now, it's easy for these people to think they're safe. Findings from Media Matters researcher Matt Gertz proves that's just not the case.
And it really isn't hard to spot in the wild, either.

I'm really not all that much a part of the "trans people love the blahaj" trend--don't get me wrong, its a cute shark just not for me--I posted the trans blahaj to try to get my account circulating and get people to follow me for what I actually post. It didn't work, lmao, but my notifications are filled with absolutely delighted queer people, which in a way is almost better.
It's nice to switch tabs from whatever Matt Walsh is spewing, or the NYT's nonsense, or looking up Libs of TikTok knockoff accounts to see people going "heehoo shark"
