Got very tired last night, like actually don't remember what I was doing sort of tired and managed to almost perfectly document the next part of my current merthur fic in a way I actually still understand and I think I'm hilarious so I'm sharing it with you which means there a spoilers (The Lost Raven on ao3)

Arthur gets back to his chambers, tired n all that, about to go do some law changing probs. Merlin is somehow??? standing upright clinging onto the bedpost or like... the air? about to hit the floor or smth idk

Arthur catches him and Merlin cries out in pain or like just something cause he’s like… half deceased and shouldn't have the capability to stand but you know... plot n all that shit

“Tf do you think yer doing mug”

“What am i doing here, i have things to do, like washing n shit”

“No dumbass get back into bed and heal before i stab you lol jk i love you and you’re awake and not dead thought you were dead but you’re alive and you were upright almost not upright but you were def upright for a hot sec there”

“No bitch I have to wash your bastard socks and you know I have magic and I'm gonna die and you're gonna kill me but also I'm in your bed and not dead so wtf is going on are you ill or cursed or mental or all of the above???”

There’s another strangled cry that erupts from behind Gaius’ shoulders and Arthur lurches forward, hand outstretched and he isn’t too sure what he aims to do. Maybe pull Gaius away and stop the horrific noises that tear from Merlin, maybe offer his own hands as aid, he has to do something. He has watched through Merlin’s suffering for far too many years, he cannot continue it now but just as he manages to pull himself away from his stance there’s another unwelcome hand on his shoulder and firm fingers are digging into his skin, pulling him back, securing unstable legs in place.

“However much you want to, you cannot help, Arthur. You’re not well.” Gwaine’s accent is thick, masking yet not quite enough to hide the worry that finds the miniscule cracks in his facade and seeps through.

“I-”

“-am my King, Arthur, I am well aware but you are also my friend and I’m telling you, Merlin has all the help he needs. What you need is to get those wounds checked and take a damn breath before you send the Kingdom into a frenzy looking for a new heir that it does not need.” Gwaine speaks quietly yet clearly and every word echoes through his ears like he’s back on the battlefield, alone and tunnelling.

“I can’t leave him-”

“An hour, Arthur. That’s all it will take, I promise.”

“I can’t.”

“I promise, Sire .” Arthur meets brown eyes as Gwaine moves to stand in front of him, his eye is mottled purple, dried blood stains his jaw. Digging fingers turn commanding and Arthur feels himself accept the pull, straining his mind not to tumble over his own feet as he’s turned around but then there’s a gasp laced with agony sounding from behind him and he’s lurching back towards the cot. Then he catches the flick of matted brown hair in his tunnelled vision and the sight of Gwaine’s own watering eyes as he manages to wrangle his arm ahead of the king and then Arthur is being shoved back, a searing burn erupts from where his blood seeps from his leg. Then the door slams shut and Arthur can’t quite remember who he is anymore.
