Still playing catchup. The second prompt for Imagined Book Cover 2023 was "Monster Parade." A Halloween themed book is still on my wish-list for books to get to illustrate. Someday it'll happen, I know it. lol

This weeks Fantasmical Friday Yokai Edition is the Amabie. Its associated with foretelling of epidemics or abundant harvests. There are some different versions of this creature, I went with the three legged fish (mermaid) version.

This week's Fantasmical Fridays Yokai edition is the Nurikabe. In Japanese folklore they are invisible walls that would block people on their paths. There were some early illustrations of what some artists believed it would look like. I made my version much cuter than some early interpretations where they're shown a bit more grotesque looking.

This weeks Rhode Montijo's Fantasmical Fridays prompt. I've been wanting to design a Kappa for the longest time, so I was glad this week's prompt had one.

I promise I'm still alive. Its been quite some time since I've posted any personal art. Been pretty busy with work, freelance and life stuff . . . but here is last weeks Rhode Montijo Fantasmical Friday prompt on Instagram. Hoping I'll be able to do the remaining prompts and maybe even do all the ones I missed. Halloween is my favorite holiday and I was dying to do the other prompts but didn't have the free time. Felt wonderful to make something for myself for a change.

Back at it again. Been away to deal with life stuff . . . but like every time I'm away, I find myself back to making personal art. Decided to wrap up another "The Imagined Book Cover 2022" theme for "Mr.Puddlewick Finds A Hat". I had done four other versions of this cover, but just couldn't find the right one, until I remembered I painted a little snail in one of the earlier versions. I thought it would be funny if a snail found a magician's hat that belonged to a former magic show bunny and the snail causes all sorts of magical chaos that the bunny has to fix lol So I landed on this cover lol I know it was a journey.

We've reached the end of Vintage Book Week 2023 on Instagram, with Prompt 4 "Hansel e Gretel". Here's my final entry. I decided to keep close to the original book cover illustration for this final one. I've actually illustrated a fun version of H&G, "It's Not Hansel and Gretel" by Josh Funk, so be sure to check that out on Amazon or at your local bookstores (Plug opportunity lol).
I want to thank everyone that took the time to participate in the challenge. And a huge thank you to my wonderful and talented co hosts, who put all this together to make this challenge a success. It was a lot of fun getting to see all the wonderful entries and meet new artists and get to talk to ones I've known for awhile. Maybe we'll get to do this again next year . . . . lol
If you haven't already, please follow and support my wonderful cohorts lol:

Well, I'm still sick, but not bed ridden lol Thank you to everyone wishing me a speedy recovery.
Today is Prompt 2 of Vintage Book Week 2023: "The New Golden Song Book." This book was originally illustrated by the popular Disney artist Mary Blair. Her work still influences illustrators and artists to this day. Be sure to look her up and see how prolific she was as an artist.
I didn't want to reinvent this cover since I loved it so much. So I stuck pretty close to the original but in my own take. Hope you all like it and cant wait to see what everyone else does with this one.
Be sure to check out the other artist's posts on Instagram under #VintageBookWeek23

Been stuck in bed with a cold 🤧But I'm excited that Vintage Book Week is finally here! Here's my version of The Shy Little Kitten cover. Its awesome to see all the beautiful posts pop up all day. Makes me so excited to see what everyone does with the other prompts this week. Keep them coming guys, they're all so great!
The Little Shy Kitten was illustrated by Gustaf Tenggren, who was chief illustrator for Disney in the late 1930s. His work is well-worth checking out!
Swipe to see his original cover and my sketch. Don't forget to check out the hastag and support other illustrators who're taking part on Instagram!

Mock Cover: "In the dark, Dark room & other scary stories" by Alvin schwartz
Been chipping away at this piece for a couple weeks in between personal stuff, freelance, and work. Here’s my mock cover art for one of my favorite scary books as a kid, Alvin Schwartz’s ” In A Dark, Dark Room & Other Scary Stories.” Its a book that is on the banned book list. I remember in elementary school, every year for Halloween I’d check this book out. I loved it so much. Still do even as…

The Imagined Book Cover 2022 Pt.1
The Imagined Book Cover 2022 Pt.1
The Imagined Book Cover 2022 Challenge took place in November, but I had only caught it when it was halfway through. I really wanted to participate but I was working on other projects and could not fit it in my schedule. However, I did do a lot of thinking about the prompts for this challenge. Since I’m on holiday break from work and I don’t have any illustration projects or freelancing currently…
