#throwbackthursday ~Not the best photo of this piece (I'll post the full one another day), but came across this old school portrait of one of my long time favorite musical artists ~ @amontobin I believe I originally began this piece somewhere during my time living in Montreal (2007/08?), adding to it in snippets across the times, and still unclear if it's in need of final tuning or if I should let it be complete. But...figured I'd share, as recently I delved into a lengthy solo listening party during long bus commutes of one after another of his albums, as well as discovered his @shy1art work, which I adore. Listening through all the records reminded me that I had wanted to begin an art project in which I would create detailed art works to match my internal machinery/minds/motion/emotional responses to some of my favorite albums - to just create intuitively off the effects of my most moving influences and see what is visually revealed.. I feel his albums may need to be where I begin. I originally was introduced to Amon Tobin's music when I was working with Public Dreams way back in the day, and our group choreographed a fire performance to tracks from Supermodified, which we performed at an outdoor festival. As an avid dancer who loves unusual, complex & challenging music, and danced like a malfunctioning machine, I was instantly hooked! haha Regardless, as I do, I often enjoy paying tribute to musicians who inspire and influence my various creative endeavors, and Amon Tobin's music influenced entire eras of creative works from art, dance, writing to poetry and masks, so thus, I painted this x (One thing I always wonder tho, is i passed two skeleton keys at two different shows(one possibly on a yacht in Montreal)... The evolution of my favorite portrait of the Shape of Halloween 🎃, drawn way back during my first October #adrawingadaychallenge in 2016! I've had a few people ask recently if I use any digital programs to create my artwork - and the answer is: I do not use computers in any of my actual drawing/painting process. I do a quick edit of scanned art prior to printing, but I'm really not tech savvy and don't even have access to Photoshop. Everything I draw is freehand, often with minimal or no pencil sketching(if I'm drawing original works from myself imagination, I prefer to work intuitively). I'm actually really new to using computers and didn't own one until recently, and I've never had a drawing program yet but generally feel an aversion to it. I prefer to find ways to create effects and precision with more hands on means, and digital art always felt really detached from that to me personally. For the time being, I prefer my ink and brushes and watercolors etc with all their messes haha. Finished this today. I'm glad it turned out as originally it had a bit of a mishap during the sketch stage when my son decided to scrawl on it with a turquoise pen and I tried to painstakingly remove the ink haha but magically, it was remedied. I had meant to do a lot more art recently, a lot more in general. As i mentioned in my last post, life happened and the last few months I've had to set aside my ambitions and plans the last while and do as I needed from day to day. But, I now feel things are settling down, and I'm feeling better (I'll explain later) and I can start making schedules to keep again.. my poor Patreon and shop need dire attention! And it's been weird not being able to do art like usual.. so here is to much more of it moving forward, ever forward! Another thing I have been neglecting is my novel. This painting is of my secret main character, with her pal. I've drawn her and other characters here and there, but rarely drawn attention to their source. I began this particular novel originally when I was 11, and finally began the determined "official first draft" during my mat leave. Naturally, a lot has evolved since I was 11, but I had written, on and off, portions of the book(s) over the years, fine tuned the plot and characters, etc, despite more than a few accidental computer data losses of sizeable portions of writing, and a loss of the folder with all my most important notes(typical). I now keep numerous copies to avoid crushed feelings. But drawing my characters is a way for me to try and stay focused and allow their personalities to evolve. Sketch I'm considering turning into a painting... . Also, apologies for the long silences between my recent posts - I have had a lot going on in my life, as well as am preparing to return to work after a year and half off on maternity leave, living in isolation during the pandemic, and I've been trying to focus on my son and organizing my home amongst other things the last bit. Rewatched @strangerthingstv to prepare(again, why not) for #strangerthings4 and drew this. I'm not big into shows, and most of the shows I do watch are from 60s-90s when I watch 'tv'(and usually it's on my real tv with the built in VCR haha), but I definitely adore this series. Plus the soundtrack is stellar, and I like to write to it. Also, I know I've been lame with posting consistently and all that jazz.
