Till The Very End - Destiel AU
So I got an anonymous request a long long long while back to write some kid!Dean and kid!Cas AU and I kinda got carried away and this happened. I hope you like it!! Also this is my first piece after my long hiatus so any feedback is appreciated ❤️
Thank you so much for being patient with me!
“Why are your clothes so torn?”

“They’re so big on you. Don’t you have better clothes?”
“You’re so ugly. Look how nice my clothes are!”
Three year old Dean Winchester sniffled, trying to hold back tears, as the other kids from his daycare taunted him. They were all laughing at his oversized flannel and his ripped shoes. Suddenly, a big kid pushed him so hard that he fell back and hit his head on the ground and that’s when the tears started to flow and Dean started sobbing. The other kids just laughed until a voice cried out,
“Hey get away from him!”
A small boy stood between Dean and the other kids and he spoke with such a fervour that the other kids slowly left the area after casting Dean a few taunting looks.
The boy turned to Dean and spoke up in a shy voice, “Hey don’t cry. I can share my toys with you.”
Dean hesitated but the small, blue-eyed kid came and sat on the ground next to him and gently pushed a firetruck onto Dean’s hands. Dean smiled a little and wiped the tears from his face.
“My name is Castiel.” The blue-eyed kid offered him his hand. “Castiel Novak.”
Despite having stood up to a large number of kids, Castiel looked shy and timid as he smiled at Dean.
Dean’s smile grew wider as he shook Castiel’s hand. “I’m Dean Winchester!”
The two kids - one blue-eyed and shy and the other  green-eyed and goofy - spent the whole day playing with each other and sharing stories about their family. When it was time to go home, the two boys hugged each other tight.
Dean stuck out his pinky. “Cas I promise that we’ll be best friends forever.”
“Yes we will!” Cas exclaimed as he hooked Dean’s pinky finger with his own. “Till the very end.”
“Daddy! I met a beautiful boy today! We played together and he’s really fun.” Three year old Castiel Novak gushed about his day at preschool to his father, Chuck.
“That’s really nice Cas.”
Castiel’s face instantly fell when he realised that his father wasn’t paying attention to him and that he had zoned out again.
“Tell me about him Cassie! What’s this boy’s name?” His elder brother Gabriel tackled him from behind and tickled Cas till he was out of breath.
“Stop Gabe.” Castiel got his words out in between his giggles. “How can I talk when you keep tickling me?”
Gabriel was six years old but he was mature for his age - the result of having an absentminded father.
“His name is Dean Winchester,” said Cas as a slight blush crept up his cheeks. “Other kids were telling bad things to him and he was sad so I went and shared my toys with him.”
Gabriel’s heart warmed for this kid he hardly knew. He couldn’t bear to think about Castiel being bullied.
“He has a younger brother who’s a baby called Sammy and Dean really loves his Sammy.” Castiel was still talking. “His mommy went to heaven just like ours but his dad doesn’t work much so he doesn’t have a lot of money.”
Castiel’s face grew sad and Gabriel was unsure on how to comfort him but Castiel was talking again,
“He asked me if I wanted to come to his house one day and play with Sammy. Can I go Gabe? Please?”
Castiel’s big earnest eyes which were directed at Gabriel broke the latter’s heart. He knew that he wouldn’t be able to take Cas all the way over to someone else’s house and he also knew that their dad wouldn’t drive them anywhere. But he could never bring himself to say no to Castiel.
“Sure Cassie! I have lots of homework today but we’ll definitely go to his house one day.”
Castiel let out a yelp of joy and sprang into Gabriel’s arms and hugged his older brother tight and whispered, “You’re the best Gabe.”
Gabriel hugged Cas back but he was heartbroken. He knew that Castiel will not be going to Dean Winchester’s house any time soon.
“Dean! You’ve got paint all over your face!” Castiel giggled at the sight of Dean Winchester covered in pink paint.
Dean leaned over and smudged the paint on Castiel’s face. “Boop! You’ve got a pink nose.”
Both the boys soon doubled over in laughter but a sudden reprimand from their third grade teacher, Ms. Ellen, caused them to control their giggles.
“Sammy really wants to meet you, Cas,” Dean whispered under his breath.
“I really do want to come to your house Dean but my dad’s very busy and my brother keeps telling me that he has homework.” Castiel lips turned down in sadness as he hoped that Dean would not be mad at him.
“I’ll never be mad at you Cas!” It was like Dean had read his mind. “Even I don’t have anyone to drive me to your house. But we’ll definitely meet up one day.”
Dean smiled brightly at Cas and Cas couldn’t help but notice how cute the freckles at the bridge of his nose were. Castiel smiled back offered Dean his pinky.
“Dean, I pinky promise that I’ll come to your house one day.”
Dean hooked his pinky to Cas’. “I’ll be waiting Cas.”
Cas and Dean went to the same high school. It was only in their Freshman year that Cas got an opportunity to go to Dean’s house. Gabriel was old enough to drive Castiel to Dean’s house and the latter spent the whole time in a frenzied happiness. Gabriel smiled at the excited Castiel through his dashboard mirror.
Dean opened the door seconds after Cas had knocked on it. Both boys hugged each other and let out a happy laugh. Dean hugged Gabriel too and thanked him for driving Cas to his house.
“I’ve heard a lot about you Dean. You’re a really good kid.” Gabriel told an excited Dean as Cas turned a deep red.
“Thanks Gabriel! You’re an amazing older brother. Cas loves you.” Dean grinned up at the older Novak.
Gabriel’s heart warmed as he hugged Cas goodbye and told him that he’ll pick him up the next day.
“Bye Gabriel!” Both the boys waved at him from the front porch till he pulled the car out of the driveway.
As soon as Gabriel’s car was out of sight, Dean gently tugged Cas towards his house. “Come on Cas! I want you to meet Sammy.”
Sam Winchester was as excited to meet Castiel as Cas was to meet him.
“Dean doesn’t stop talking about you! He thinks you’re really funny and cute and smart!” Sam gushed out as he hugged Castiel.
“Sammy!” Dean protested as he playfully punched Sam and ruffled his hair.
“I think your brother is equally funny and cute and smart, Sam,” said Cas with an amused look on his face. “He’s my best friend.”
Sam and Dean’s dad was nowhere to be found but the boys convinced Sam that he disappears sometimes and that it’s nothing to worry about.
“Can we watch Star Wars, Dean?” Sam begged his older brother. “Please?”
“Sure Sammy,” Dean said as he looked at his younger brother with adoration.
Sam let out a whoop of joy and rushed off to make some popcorn.
“Dean, Ms. Ruby wanted me to talk to you about your grades.” Cas broached the subject slowly. “I can help you study.”
Dean’s grades were falling pretty badly and Dean didn’t know how to explain to Cas that it was because of his father abusing him at home and never being there to help him or Sam with anything. He decided that he’ll tell Cas when the time comes but for now they should enjoy the day.
“Don’t worry about it Cas. I’ll take care of it.”
“Okay.” Cas realised that there was something that Dean wasn’t telling him but he decided not to poke at it. Dean would tell him when he was ready.
Sam was the first to fall asleep on the couch and Dean and Cas were up through the entire movie. They soon started talking about school and about how they were going to be sophomores soon.
“We might even have girlfriends next year Cas!” Dean exclaimed with a huge grin.
Cas smiled back but for some reason he found that his smile was forced. Why did the thought of Dean Winchester with a girlfriend upset him?
The answer came to him just before he fell asleep, wrapped in Dean’s arms. He was in love with his best friend.
It’s funny how much can change in a little two years, isn’t it? Dean Winchester and Castiel Novak were seniors at Wayward High but they were no longer best friends. In fact, it had been more than a year since the two had spoken to each other. Castiel was an all-rounder. He had perfect grades and he was also the captain of the basketball team. He’d already gotten many offers to join various colleges. Moreover his father had started allocating time for his family and started working harder to support his boys.
On the other hand, Dean Winchester’s grades just dropped lower. He was an outcast in school - with his tattered flannel and worn out shoes. But while Castiel had never dated anyone, Dean had been in a lot of relationships - all of which had ended badly. Sam Winchester and Gabriel Novak never understood why their respective brothers had grown apart at a time when they needed each other the most.
It all had started a few days after their sleepover two years ago. Dean’s father, John, had started beating him up more and more. He would come home drunk and demand dinner from Dean. Dean was scared to report it to the authorities as he knew that they would separate Sammy and him. He also couldn’t bring himself to tell Cas as he didn’t want any pity from the latter. Moreover Dean Winchester had known for a while that his feelings towards Cas were more than that of a friend. He was embarrassed and slowly stopped talking to Castiel.
Castiel was confused and hurt. He kept wondering if he had done something wrong. He also feared that maybe Dean got to know about Cas’ feelings towards him and was upset with them. Did Castiel just ruin the best friendship in his whole life by falling in love?
Soon Dean had found other friends - Charlie Bradbury, Jo Harvelle, Garth Fitzgerald and more. Castiel, on the other hand, kept to himself and focused on his academics.
There used to be a time when they would walk down the school hallways as best friends but now, they were strangers who refused to meet each other’s eyes. There were times Castiel would catch Dean looking at him and he wanted to go over and talk to him but he was always too scared of being rejected.
Just as their time at high school was coming to an end, Castiel made up his mind to talk to Dean. One Friday evening, he drove himself to the Winchester’s house and with sweaty palms, knocked on the door. For a long time no one answered the door and dejected, Castiel was about to turn back and drive home. But sounds of muffled crying stopped Castiel in his tracks. He could recognise Dean’s voice anywhere. Castiel quickly pushed the handles to the front door to find it already unlocked. The soft cries where coming from Dean’s room. Cas quickly rushed up the stairs and pushed open the doors to the room to find Dean curled up on the bed, crying his eyes out.
“Dean?” Cas slowly reached out and touched Dean’s shoulder. “Dean, are you okay?”
Dean quickly sat up and wiped the tears off his face and Cas gasped when he saw that Dean’s face was caked with blood.
“I’m fine,” Dean muttered harshly.
Cas flinched away from him and Dean regretted his tone immediately. “I’m sorry Cas. It’s just that I hate people seeing me like this. Especially you.”
Cas had no idea what that meant but he slowly sat next to Dean. “You don’t have to hide from me Dean. Remember how we first met?”
Dean smiled softly as he thought back to that day 14 years earlier. “You were a shy kid even back then.”
Cas snorted. “You weren’t so different yourself.”
After a small pause Cas continued, “Dean what happened? Who did this to you?”
“My father.” Dean’s voice was low and he refused to meet Cas’ eyes.
“Your father?” Cas was shocked. “How long has he been abusing you like this?”
“About four years now… He’s an alcoholic and he usually comes home drunk and beats the fuck out of me.”
“Why didn’t you tell me anything Dean?”
“I - I was embarrassed, Cas.”
Castiel took Dean’s hands in his own. “You don’t have to be embarrassed to tell me anything. I’m your best friend.”
Dean looked up at Cas and tightened squeezed Cas’ hand with his own. “You still consider me as a friend?”
“Of course Dean. You should’ve told me but I never realised what you were going through. I’m sorry for not being there for you either.”
Before Cas knew what was happening Dean hugged him tight and Cas soon melted into the hug.
“Thank you Cas.”
“Best friends till the very end, right?”
“Of course,” Dean grinned at his best friend.
“Come on let’s get you cleaned up.” Castiel pulled Dean up to his feet and spent the evening washing the blood off of his face.
“We were idiots in the past two years,” Dean muttered with regret.
“Yes we were. But we’re here for each other now and that’s what matters,” Cas said with a small smile at Dean.
“You’re such a sap Cas,” Dean grinned up at the blue eyed boy.
Cas just lightly punched Dean’s shoulder. “Shut up Dean.”
Soon, for absolutely no reason, the two boys were doubled over in laughter and it occurred to each of them that they were still in love with each other. But would they ever tell the other?
Since that day Castiel invited Dean and Sam over to his house after school. Sam played with Castiel’s cousin, Anna, while Cas tutored Dean. In just a couple of months, Dean’s grades improved drastically. The two boys were closer than they ever were. Moreover Dean was going to turn 18 soon and he’ll be able to live alone with Sam - away from their father.
The night before prom, the Dean and Cas were lying stretched out on the latter’s bed playing video games.
“I mean, prom is so stupid.” Dean muttered as he waited for Cas to type in his character’s name for the game. “It’s all a big popularity contest.”
“Hmmm hmm,” Cas agreed with Dean. “Plus we don’t have dates.”
“Well you don’t need a date to go,” Dean looked sideways at Cas.
“That’s true.” Cas nodded but he didn’t know what else to say.
The two played a couple of games in silence - except for a couple of shouts of happiness and annoyance at the game. Finally Dean placed his controller down on the bed and turned to Cas and broke the silence,
“You could be mine,” Dean whispered.
“Your what?” Cas looked at Dean with a confused tilt of his head.
Fuck he’s adorable, Dean thought to himself and he felt nervousness wash over him. It was too late to back out so he might as well do this.
“You could be my date.” Dean drew out his words slowly.
Castiel just blinked at Dean and didn’t say anything for a while. Dean was sure that his face was dark red and he was aware that he was sweating buckets. He had fucked up, didn’t he? He had just gotten Cas back and he had already pushed him away. Cas’ voice interrupted his thoughts,
“Yes.”
“What?” Dean wasn’t sure that he heard Cas right.
“I’ll be your date.” At this point, Cas’ face was a dark shade of pink too. “Do you like me as more than a friend, Dean?”
“Yeah Cas. I’ve been in love with you for a very long time actually.” Dean let out a nervous laugh and scratched the back of his neck.
Cas’ eyes grew wider and a huge grin split his cheek. “I’ve actually liked you for a very long while too.”
Dean’s heartbeat are impossibly louder and he found himself smiling back giddily at Cas. “Can… can I kiss you Cas?”
Cas’ blushed harder - if that was even possible. “Sure Dean.”
Dean slowly leaned closer towards Cas till their lips were just inches apart. “You sure about this?”
Instead of replying with words, Cas leaned forward and closed the gap between their lips. Dean couldn’t help the gasp that escaped his mouth as he felt Cas’ tongue at his lips. Dean quickly opened his mouth in response and Cas’ tongue expertly explored Dean’s mouth. Dean wrapped an arm around Cas’ waist and pulled the latter on top of him on the bed without breaking the kiss.
This was Castiel’s first kiss and he realised that most books had it wrong. He didn’t feel any fireworks nor supernova exploding behind his eyelids. The kiss made him happy and it was the best kind of happy. It held the right amount of messiness and Castiel was soon drunk on Dean and his love for him.
Dean slowly pulled away from Cas and the two were out of breath.
“Let’s save some for prom night shall we?” Dean winked at Cas and both were soon reduced to a laughing mess.
Once their laughter subsided, Dean looked at Cas with a soft look in his eyes. “I’ve wanted to kiss you ever since I met you.”
Castiel quickly pecked Dean’s lips again and grinned at the Winchester. “Who’s the sap now?”
Dean laughed with a slow shake of his head.
“I love you Castiel Novak. You’ve helped me through a lot and I don’t know where I would be without you.” He paused before adding, “You’re like my guardian angel, Cas.”
“I love you too Dean Winchester and we’ll always be there for each other.”
“Pinky promise?” Dean asked as he held out his pinky finger.
Castiel laughed at their old tradition before hooking Dean’s pinky with his own. “Pinky promise.”

Hey! Can you maybe write a Destiel drabble in which Dean is afraid of something and Cas comforts him? Thank you! PS I love your writing!
That sounds amazing! I got a similar request about Cas trying to help Dean get over his fear of flying so maybe I’ll combine the two requests :)
Is that okay?
And thank you so much! ❤️

Troubled Nights
Request: Anon asked - “hey, idk if you’re taking requests right now, but do you think you could do a fic where dean has a nightmare about cas (who’s still dead) and jack hears him murmuring cas’ name in his sleep? i think you would have a really cool take on this :)”
A/N:  Oh my God I’m so sorry that this took a lot of time! I had a couple of exams this week and writer’s block didn’t help either. But it’s 1am here and I truly loved writing this and I hope it came out well. Thank you for the request ❤️
It hadn’t taken Jack much time to figure out that the whimpering sounds that penetrated his walls at night were the sounds of someone crying. Jack had never heard such a broken sound before and he was surprised - to say the least - when he realised that Dean Winchester was the source of these sounds.
Dean Winchester was a hard man to please and Jack found it even harder to even be in his presence. Most of the time, Dean would pretend that Jack wasn’t in the room and when Jack tried to make conversation with him, he would just shut him out. But things were getting better. Ever since Jack saved their lives at their latest hunt, Dean had been less disgruntled with Jack. But he was still bitter and short-tempered most of the time.
Sam explained that Dean was going through a hard time and was grieving for the loved ones that he lost. Jack didn’t truly understand the pain till that night - the first night that he had heard the elder Winchester cry out in his sleep. Jack was too scared and confused to go to him then. The second night was the same, but this time Jack actually considered going to Dean’s room and doing something - anything - to ease his pain. But Jack couldn’t bring himself to face Dean. It was the third night that Jack finally made himself walk over to Dean’s room when the sounds arose again. As Jack reached Dean’s room, he realised that Dean wasn’t muttering incomprehensible words. In fact he was calling out for one person in his nightmares. He was calling out for Castiel.
"You promised that you would always be there.” Dean was no longer yelling as he looked at Cas standing in front of him with an angel blade buried in his chest. “You promised…”
“I’m sorry, Dean.” Cas’ steely blue eyes met his scared green ones.
Dean was afraid to go near Cas. He knew that this was a dream - a nightmare, to be more accurate. But it all felt too real.
“You - you told me that you loved me.” Dean chocked the words out as the stab wound on Cas’ chest darkened in colour and stained his trench coat. But Cas seemed to not notice nor care.
“I’m sorry.”
“You’re sorry?” Dean’s voice raised higher as he looked at Cas in surprise. “You don’t love me?”
“I’m sorry,” Cas repeated firmly. “You have to let go, Dean.”
“Not again. Never.” Dean was determined to not let go as he grabbed hold of Cas’ collar. A part of him was still aware that this was a nightmare and that none of this was real but most of him didn’t care.
But nothing stopped the angel from burning white and going limp in the hunter’s arms. Nothing stopped the guttural scream that escaped Dean’s throat.
Dean woke with a start. His throat hurt and he realised that he had definitely cried out in his sleep. Sweat plastered his hair to his forehead and his shirt was sticky with the same. His face was wet and Dean realised that he had been crying without him being aware of it.
“Son of a bitch.” Dean’s voice was barely a croak and his throat was still sore from the exertion. He wanted to get some water. The thought of drowning bottles of beer didn’t tempt him tonight.
He slowly turned himself around to get down his bed only to find Jack looking at him.
“Holy sh- Jack? What’re you doing here?” Dean quickly wiped at his eyes and frowned at the nephilim.
“I heard you calling out in your sleep Dean,” Jack said. “I heard you calling out for my father, Castiel.”
“T’was nothing,” Dean replied in a gruff voice. “Go back to bed.”
“I want to help you Dean,” Jack insisted.
“I asked you to get out of here.” Dean immediately regretted his words as he saw the hurt on Jack’s face.
“I - I’m sorry, alright? This is just not easy for me to talk about.”
“I won’t tell anyone Dean. Maybe I can even help you.” Jack decided to make a bold move and sat next to Dean on the bed. When Dean didn’t push Jack away he relaxed a bit and turned to Dean with a patient look.
“No one can help, Jack. He’s gone and nothing’s bringing him back.” Dean’s eyes flitted down to where his hands were clasped tight to prevent himself from crying again. “He’s gone.”
“Dean, please?” Jack tried again.
“Why?”
It sounded like a simple question, but Jack knew that it was not.
“I need to know if Castiel was as good as my mom wanted me to believe.”
“He was better,” Dean said, his voice barely a whisper. “He was a hero.”
“So tell me, Dean,” Jack urged. “Tell me about my father.”
It was the slight squint in Jack’s gaze and the ever-so-light head tilt that broke Dean. That was how Dean Winchester spent the whole night talking to Jack about the angel that he had fallen in love with.
Feedback motivates me a lot ❤️

Regrets
“Can you tell me about him?” Jack asked Dean one day, as he walked into the elder Winchester’s room.
“Him?”
“My father… Castiel.”
Dean almost asked Jack to talk to Sam about it and to leave him alone but he relented.
“Unlike most angels, Cas was not a douchebag,” Dean started. “He loved humanity and he always put others’ well being over his own. He was selfless and he cared deeply about everything and everyone.”
Jack was now listening very intently to Dean’s words.
“He was a good soldier, but he was more than that. He was family…”
Dean could feel a lump forming in his throat. He took a deep breath to keep his voice steady and continued,
“He was my best friend and… and sometimes more.”
“You loved him?” Jack’s head was tilted slightly to the left as he looked at Dean with a questioning look.
Dean was about to get defensive and shut Jack out and deny everything. He wanted to tell Jack that what he was implying was absurd. But before he could say anything, Dean’s eyes fell on the mixtape by his bed. It was slightly cracked from the number of times he had thrown it against the wall in frustration at Chuck. He had even been mad at Cas for not sticking to their plan. He was mad at Cas for getting killed.
Dean cleared his throat and looked at Jack to see the nephilim still looking at Dean with a questioning look.
“I love him,” Dean agreed, his voice barely a whisper. “I am in love with Castiel and my biggest regret is that I never got a chance to tell him that.”
feedback please? ❤️

I Love You
Read it here on AO3
“Cas… I - I love you.”
The first time Dean Winchester choked those words out loud, only the deafening silence of his empty room greeted him. Castiel was dead and the only thing that remained was the trench coat which smelled of dry blood and dirt. It no longer smelled of Cas.
The next time Dean confessed his feelings out loud was the next day when he was playing the mixtape on repeat.
“I love you Cas and I really miss you, buddy. Come back to us. Come back to me. Please…”
The words were simple but the emotions behind them were not.
Ever since then, Dean would end his prayers to Cas with an ‘I love you’ and a silent plea to come back alive. And every morning he would wake to an empty bed and a tear-stained trench coat.
“Dean I understand your pain but you’ve got to help me out with Jack,” Sam pleaded one day. “I cannot do this alone. I lost my best friend and my mom too, Dean.”
“You don’t understand Sam.” Dean pushed past his younger brother and reached for the cooler to grab a couple of bottles of beer.
“Then make me understand Dean.” Sam stood cross-armed in front of Dean and refused to move.
Dean stared at the cold bottles of beer in his hand before finally meeting Sam’s eyes. “I love him, Sam. I’m in love with Cas.”
Sam’s gaze softened and he didn’t have the heart to correct the tenses in Dean’s confession. “I know Dean… I’m sorry.”
Sam had stopped reaching out to Dean but the latter could not just sit around anymore. Dean started becoming more productive. He started taking care of Baby and giving her regular washes. In fact, Dean was back in the kitchen cooking breakfast and lunch in no time. He would still shut himself in his rooms for hours on end of course, but it was baby steps and Sam was content. However, Dean refused to go near Jack as the Nephilim reminded him too much of his dead angel.
“I love you Cas and I know that you would want me to help Jack… but I’m sorry man. I can’t look at him without seeing you and… and it hurts.”
It was after seventy-six confessions did Dean hear the voice he never thought he would hear again.
It was a fine Thursday morning and Dean was in his room, going through all the pictures that he had in the bunker when he realised that there were no pictures of Cas. None. He was about to reach for another beer when the voice behind him stopped him cold.
“Hello Dean.”
Dean turned back so fast that he almost got whiplash.
“Cas?”
Cas was looking at Dean with a small smile. Before he knew it, Dean closed the distance between him and the angel and pulled him into a tight hug.
“You’re real. This is it. You’re here.” Dean was crying again but he didn’t care.
He sniffed in the familiar scent of Cas but the latter pulled away and placed a hand on Dean’s cheeks. Dean closed his eyes and leaned into Cas’ touch and his green eyes met Cas’ warm blue ones. But the blue eyes held hesitation and Cas’ hands twitched at his sides.
“What’s the matter Cas?” Dean whispered.
Cas took a long unsteady breath and before Dean could react, Cas tilted his head up and pressed a soft kiss on Dean’s lips. Before Cas could pull away, Dean wrapped his arms around the angel’s waist, pulled him impossibly closer and kissed him deeper and harder. It was a long time before the two came up for breath.
“I love you Cas,” Dean breathed out.
“I heard you. I love you too Dean.”
