We had to portray a 'person in absence' in art class last year and I chose Jonathan Harker

The way that Dracula started subtly at first but he's been slowly and lovingly stripping the agency away from Jonathan every single day for weeks and weeks taking away his sleep his personal space his privacy destroying his belongings gaslighting him making him isolate himself from loved ones making him seek refuge from danger in Dracula's mercy and now taking away not just his means of communication but his very identification. The way that everything that once made him Jonathan Harker now belongs to Count Dracula. The way that his name isn't even his own anymore so he might as well forget it

dracula is defeated by 1) autism, 2) true love, and 3) incredible violence, and the fact that this isn’t the mainstream understanding of dracula in pop culture is a fucking travesty

i am VIBRATING in my seat about dracula daily this year. i own the book. i only signed up for the email so i know what days to listen to the re:dracula adaptation. i've got a 200 page empty notebook just for notes. i'm so jazzed. i'm so pumped. i'm stoked. if you will pardon the pun.

Honestly, I was thinking the Lucy stuff was horrible to her in a "he spied/fed on her and she found it super hot and cheated on Arthur with him" kind of way, which is more than bad enough. For real 😭 it's tragically ironic that in the book he's most respected for his PTSD and his bravery despite it; and that's exactly why he's so despised by filmakers, who can't accept to see weakness in a main male character
