I’m so tired of stereotypes that come along every Black women. And the fact that they were created by the white media really pisses me off! I am very proud of all Black girls and I admire all their accomplishments despite the hate of the modern society.
#BlackGirlMagic is not just a hashtag, it strengthens our self-respect and emphasizes our importance!

Book review and recommendation:
🏙 City Witchery 🌃
by Lisa Marie Basile
(100% my personal thoughts and opinions, I was just very excited to share my feelings on this book I came across! )
• So far this book checks all the boxes for me, it’s inclusive of those with disabilities and gives alternatives for walking meditations. The author states in their personal bio that they are a chronic illness advocate and that is definitely reflected in the accessibility offered in this book.
• I loved seeing the lgbtqia community and black lives support mentioned on the very first page.
• The way the author writes also really reflects on how much of a poet they are and I found it a very easy and beautiful read packed with a lot of information.
• As someone who lives in a dense city area I loved seeing all of the alternatives listed out on how to connect with nature still, but also how to connect with the city itself and use the magic that sits everywhere around us.
• The author gives ways to work in small spaces or shared spaces and how to still do ritual work when it’s hard to find that alone time you need.
• Even if you don’t live in a big city, it’s perfect for if you’re ever traveling, staying in hotels or visiting places that make it harder to connect with pure nature and how to still find the magic and beauty in that world of busyness.
Overall it’s definitely a 10/10,
it doesn’t cover a lot of advanced topics, but I feel like even an advanced witch could find it interesting and helpful when looking to apply what they already do to a city-like setting.

Hullo! I saw on a post you reblogged about your love of tarot. I've been trying to get into tarot reading but I'm absolutely overwhelmed with the sheer amount of info out there, I don't know where to start. Do you have any recommendations on books, websites or other resources that can get me started?
Thanks for your question! I first started with watching videos on YouTube of other people doing readings. This helped me to get use to the images, then the first book I read was the below:
Tumblr media
I didn’t finish the book but it was really interesting how this book broke down every piece of imaginary that are in the cards. When referencing the cards, my go to website is Labyrinthos, they have an app that’s really helpful and tracks your readings to let you know how often certain suits show up for you. The app also has a training feature where it quizzes you on the basic meanings of the cards.
More recently, I’ve been working with my intuition and finding new ways to connect with the cards. Tarot can be as complex or as simple as you make it to be. It has numerology and astrology throughout the whole deck and that alone can drag out the meaning to a dissertation length lol. And more importantly, be patient; it takes time to connect with the cards and know what it’s trying to tell you. There’s some people I’ve seen on social media that said they’ve been reading for 20 years and it’s not until new methods come out, that they find easier ways to understand the cards. TikTok is also a good place to see how others connect with the cards.
I always have tarot cards on me and I know I don’t need them, but I feel connected to the story of evolution: you start out inexperienced and can develop into a master with just practice and consistency. So start out with these simple steps and you’ll be surprised how much you’ll advance in a matter of time.

Collective Reading for Capricorn Season 2023
Sagittarius Season Wrap Up When Mars entered Sagittarius, I had to make sure that I implemented self-care routines that included starting a book called, The Artist Way by Julia Cameron. Setting daily reminders to not overwork or overstress myself while three planets were in fast-paced Sagittarius. Now that we’re getting close to Capricorn season, I was feeling myself getting a little bit sick.…

Book Review - The Magic of Marie Laveau
I stumbled upon this book by accident one day, while browsing after a routine checkup with my doctor. Luckily for me, I have a Barns and Noble near my doctor’s office so after every visit (which is annually), I reward myself with a book. This visit though, I wasn’t interested in my usual fiction genre that I’ve been accustomed to reading; I wanted to venture out into something new which is how I…

Collective Reading for Sagittarius Season 2023
Cosmically, Scorpio season had a Lunar eclipse in Taurus which is the opposite of Scorpio and, continued the transformation trend the Nodes started before entering Aries and Libra. Saturn did go direct on November 4th…
Scorpio Season Wrap Up Although I haven’t been posting for a while because 2023 has been frantic, I’d still like to wrap up Scorpio season. For the past few months, the planets have been grabbing my attention and thrusting me to new life experiences. Then again, Scorpio is the ruler of the underworld. Cosmically, Scorpio season had a Lunar eclipse in Taurus which is the opposite of Scorpio and,…

Practical Craft: Setting Up an Altar
So, you've decided to set up an altar or sacred space for your practice. That's great! An altar can be a wonderful space for witchcraft, spirit work, and more.
But where to start?
If you look up pictures of altars online, such as on Tumblr or Instagram, you're likely to see lots of #aesthetic photos full of beautiful arrangements of lit candles, elaborate crystal grids, and expensive-looking statues. Not to mention all the bottles and herbs and incense and stones and bells and lights and tarot cards and oracle cards and and and...
It's a lot, to say the least. I'm one of those people who has a hard time accepting when things aren't totally perfect or up to "standards" (which may or may not continuously shift as I get closer to them, mind). If you're like me, creating an altar space might seem intimidating. You might ask yourself:
"What if it doesn't turn out right?"
"What if the spirit(s) this space is for don't like it?"
"How can I get all the materials that I have to have?"
"Why doesn't my altar look like those pretty pictures online?"
And, if you manage to make your space look that beautiful, you may even ask:
"Why isn't this altar working for me?"
Let's start from the top.
Check out my new post on Ko-Fi, currently exclusive for supporters! For a one-time payment as low as $1, you can receive early and extended access to my work. This one includes a preview of my personal working altar; I'll dive into the specifics of it in another post eventually.

MARS SIGN OBSERVATIONS
Tumblr media
♂ Pisces Mars - I think Lennie Small from “Of Mice and Men,” would have this placement. This is a person who is seemingly harmless, and yet they still managed to cause harm and destruction through indirect action. When looking at someone with a Pisces Mars, their innocence and an assumed lack of strength is noticed first. These are kind people. They would rather harm themselves over another person. Their first instinct isn’t to attack, but to defend. When angry, they appear to be caught up within a panic. A Pisces Mars is driven by their big dreams. They might not always know what they want out of life, and their goals and ambitions may change frequently. This does not mean that they are incapable of finding success. If anything, their unwavering belief in themselves and their ability to achieve the impossible is what takes them to great heights. Hope is everything for someone with this placement, it’s what gets them out of bed in the morning.
♂ Aquarius Mars - It's hard to pin someone with this placement down. Their actions don’t make sense to other people. Aquarius does a good job showing its eccentricity through Mars. The rules of society and the opinions of others do not dictate their actions. These types are constantly surprising people, and they like this. The public will often speculate about those with an Aquarius Mars. Theories are formed about them, no one can guess what they’re going to do next. In my opinion, this is the most rebellious Aquarius placement. They live their life in a manner that is truly unconventional. People with this placement are not aggressive, but they are clever. They like outsmarting people. A sense of superiority can sometimes act as a driving force. They go out of their way to make the people around them feel stupid if they’re in a foul mood. Their need for independence will never be forsaken.
♂ Capricorn Mars - Hard work doesn’t scare these people off. They’ll put in whatever energy is needed to complete a project or endeavor. A strong sense of ambition and an excellent sense of focus are traits commonly seen with this placement. They’re quite secure in themselves and exercise self control through all their actions. Discipline motivates them. They take their responsibilities seriously and expect others to do the same. A Capricorn Mars goes above and beyond what is expected of them. They do this through a step-by-step process and practical planning. Cutting corners or taking the easy way out is something you’d never catch them doing. These types want to maintain control over every aspect of their life. They become angry when plans are thrown into a disarray through unexpected events. “Going with the flow,” is not a strong suit of theirs. Their need for security is what motivates them.
♂ Sagittarius Mars - People with this placement are incredibly restless. They lack patience and need many different outlets to pour their energy into. They are easy going but are also quickly overtaken by passion. Crossing their moral beliefs is a good way to get them riled up. They like to believe that their opinions are more intellectual than they are emotional. When angry they like to get up on a soap box to lecture people. When people don’t agree with them, it can sometimes feel like criticism. They also don’t consider how their tendency to dish out brutal honesty may actually be more hurtful than it is impactful. They often act as a spark that ignites fire, in both a positive and a negative way.
♂ Scorpio Mars - The definition of “moving in silence.” Lots of people claim to do this, but a Scorpio Mars wouldn’t be caught making such a claim. They’re smarter than that. They know that hardship and struggle are inevitable. This does not scare them, but they also don’t fight against the natural currents of life. During certain points, their sense of ambition is so relentless that it becomes obsessive. But, this can only last so long. Rest and recuperation is a process they embrace. After acting on an immense level of concentration for a long period of time, they will need to take a step back to reassess goals. Rather than just accepting things for the way they are, a Scorpio Mars would rather make changes. If they feel that a path is ill-suited for them, they’re not afraid to change directions. Starting from zero is not discouraging and it is something that motivates these types. They have the power to turn nothing into something great.
♂ Libra Mars - Mars is uncomfortable being in Libra. People with this placement often struggle with taking action and are as indecisive as they come. They get caught up in what's fair and what isn’t. They have a strong need to strike equality and want every situation to be as balanced as possible. Some might be surprised to know that the ultimate desire for these types is to garner a sense of peace. They might unintentionally stir the pot through their inability to take a strong stance on something. They want to weigh all the options possible and can become stressed trying to do so. Being passive-aggressive is also something that's frequently seen with this placement. These types think they’re being nice when in reality they’re making people uncomfortable through their fear of being direct. They’re sneaky when faced with conflict but also good at leading people into a resolution.

To the world, the Collins are an admired and respected family at the pinnacle of Black society with members involved in medicine, law, music and business.
Behind this, is a legendary three centuries old family of darkness, inbreeding and power that didn't hesitate to use their power to destroy anyone deemed an enemy. Legends and stories about the Collins are well known in the occult world. They serve as a warning:
Don't come to the dark side of the crossroads and try them. You won't make it out alive.

Who's Who in Hoodoo History: High John the Conqueror
John the Conqueror is known in Hoodoo folklore as a trickster spirit, always making a way out of no way at all, “hitting a straight lick with a crooked stick. Winning the jackpot with no other stake than a laugh” (Hurston 1943, 452). Slaves saw him as emerging from a whisper, finding laughter in sorrow, irony in tragedy, and triumph in despair. He was the bringer of hope, “the source and soul of our laughter and song.” He provided much-needed comedic relief in everyday life. He was a resistance figure whose weapons were laughter, cunning, and trickery.
They say that John was a prince who came from Africa, walking on the winds that filled the sails of ships through the Middle Passage. There are no photographs or drawings of the actual John the Conqueror. However, some say he resembled big John Henry, the “steel-driving man” of African American folklore. Or maybe he was “a little, hammered down, low-built man like the Devil’s doll-baby” (Hurston 1943, 452). Some say you can’t draw a spirit, so quit trying. Others say no one ever talked about what he looked like because it wasn’t necessary. White people never knew of his existence, which was by design; they weren’t supposed to know about him. He was the slaves’ biggest advocate on the downlow, and they lived for the tales of his putting one over on ole Massa.
They say that the spirit of John the Conqueror was around in the form of Brer Rabbit before John came on the scene. That wily mammal had already made the rounds on the plantations for a year and a day by the time John came along. Because he was in the form of an entertaining bunny, his tales spread far and wide. In reality, Brer Rabbit and John the Conqueror are two different spirits, but their functions are similar. Both are tricksters; both gain the edge through cunning, audacity, and intelligence. Both are empowering resistance figures.
John the Conqueror’s renown comes from the abundance of folktales describing his exploits. The most significant tales involve his role in procuring freedom through comedic relief and trickery. Freedom was of primary concern to John, and it governed near about all of his decisions. But he wasn’t the same kind of resistance figure as San Malo, Bras Coupe, or Annie Christmas. He was good at playing dumb when he needed to, and he excelled at the art of gaslighting. He played ole Massa like a fiddle.
He could make you think yellow was green and green was yellow. He would make you believe that what he did was your doing, and he was a master at leaving ole Massa standing in his place, mouth agape. He was just that cunning.
John the Conqueror was most popular during slavery days because he served an express purpose. People needed the kind of resilience and inspiration he could bring. They needed the hope he dispensed. They needed a vision for the future, one that involved their complete liberation. And when he went back to Africa, they say he left his spirit right here in the United States in the root of a special flower, a variety of morning glory bearing purple flowers. In this way, John the Conqueror never actually left. Whenever anyone needs him, they can access him by communing with the root bearing his namesake.
