A Whole New World - Chapter 15

It's carpet ride time!! And, with special permission from the artist, I'm so excited to share the stunning artwork done by @yan-san-yan as part of the @mlbigbang!

As they rocketed up into the night sky, Adrien clutched at the princess’s shoulders for dear life – but it wasn’t enough. They were flying – like, in the sky – on a magic carpet!

Terror made his eyes squeeze shut, and he threw his arms around Marie’s waist, only half noticing the squeal she emitted as he pressed her close to his chest like a security blanket. Then they jolted in a way that told him they were upright again.

‘S-sorry.’ He loosened his hold on her but didn’t remove his arms.

‘That’s…that’s okay.’ Her voice sounded strangled.

His sinuses were itching like crazy. He peeked open one eye – then the other. They seemed to have joined a flock of birds going for a night fly. He sneezed hard and scratched his nose. ‘Sorry – I’m allergic to feathers.’

She twisted round to look at him, her expression worried. ‘You’re going to be okay, though?’

‘Oh, it’s worth it, I promise. This is amazing. Better than amazing! I don’t know what to call it!’

The carpet dipped, then, causing him to slide closer against her back, holding her tight as they dived down over a town. Again, he closed his eyes, his stomach flipflopping and his chin nuzzled into the princess’s neck. The shapes seemed to fit together. Like he was made to hold her.

When they’d levelled out again, he dared to open his eyes a second time. They were gliding over the gardens surrounding some stately home, grand enough to rival the palace grounds.

Overcome, he leaned a little over the side of their ride and plucked a flower – a red rose. He reached around to hand it to Marie, who flushed almost the same colour as the rose, before tucking it into her intricate hair, dark locks falling loose and framing her face.

Then they were zipping back up into the clouds. This time, it wasn’t so scary, though he still held her tightly.

‘Wow. Just…wow.’ It was crazy – like a whole new world, up here – a new, fantastic point of view.

A Whole New World - An Aladdin AU

Summary:

Everyone has a wish. Orphan Marinette wishes she weren’t a street rat, scrounging and stealing for food. Prince Adrien wishes he had the freedom to marry who he loves…whoever that might be. And King Gabriel, keeper of the black cat miraculous, wishes for a world where his wife never died. But he needs Marinette to retrieve the fabled ladybug miraculous from the Cave of Wonders, to make his wish come true….

CHAPTER 1 PREVIEW:

Tension rising in his gut, Gabriel dug his heels into the flanks of his tired horse, urging it further forward across the desert. The beast trudged on in weary silence, hoofs sinking into the thick sand.

There was something unnerving about being out here, at this time of night, with only the full moon to guide their way – though he’d never admit it. Not even to Nathalie, astride a stallion of her own, riding at his side. This place…it was a thing he couldn’t know. And if you didn’t know a thing, you couldn’t control it.

The desert was endless, like an ocean, concealing its secrets deep underground. Sometimes people found old ships under the sand, evidence that there really had been water there once, in a time now long forgotten. There were strange tales of sandworms burrowing beneath, maybe even creeping under the neighbouring cities, biding their time before they popped out to eat the populace. And there were legends of caverns and ancient treasure troves that hadn’t seen the light of day since the time of genies.

But he was only interested in one treasure.

Marinette gazed out at the palace, a world so foreign that it may as well be on the moon. ‘I wonder what it would be like to live there – to have servants and valets….’

‘Oh, sure. People who tell you where to go and how to dress.’

‘It’s better than here – always scraping for food and ducking the guards.’

‘You’re not free to make your own choices.’

‘Sometimes you feel so –’

‘You’re just –’

‘Trapped.’ They spoke the word in unison, as if they were somehow the same.

Marinette swallowed. That voice – it had dropped even further. Almost unable to help it, she met ‘her’ eyes above the veil and finally saw what she hadn’t allowed herself to see before. This was no girl. What on earth had sent this boy out into the marketplace in women’s clothes, hiding himself away, yet putting himself completely on show by feeding poor street urchins?

And why was he looking at her like that? Like she was…magic. No one had ever looked at her like that. And the longer she looked back, she saw pain – unhappiness – struggle – but also hope. Like whatever he’d gone through, he hadn’t yet lost his faith in people, the way she so often did.

His eyes were so green, like fresh grass springing up in the most arid climate, the promise of life where it seemed impossible. They were bright and glittering with optimism. Maybe if she looked in them long enough, she would regain some of what she’d lost.

She cleared her throat and pulled out the two remaining apples she’d stolen just before they’d run from the fruiterer’s stall, rolling one down her arm and bumping it off her elbow, into the boy’s hand. He stared at it, and then at her, as if she were a miracle.

I originally made this for my 80s au which is inspired by Ranma 1/2 (one of my all time favorite anime) and its based on my headcanon of Luka being trained as a guardian or protector of the miraculous box. I ended up finishing this up this and submit it for a logo competition where the theme this time was dragon 🫧

I’ve been saying this for years but Gabriel Agreste is a cheap knock-off of Mr. Freeze from Batman. This trope has been done before and it doesn’t fail as hard as Gabriel.

Mr. Freeze is the perfect example of sympathetic villain trying to save/cure his coma/dead wife. What he does is bad but he has sympathetic (and perhaps redeeming) qualities. I have a very limited knowledge about the batverse or dc but the fact that such little exposure i had to this villain and he still gave such a lasting impressions says a lot about the character writing and execution.

On the other hand, there is no excuse other than poor writing and what not, which Astruc is not ready to admit by hiding behind excuses that helps him sleep at night and blaming the audience and fans alike for not understanding that.

I support any Luka ships since I love him so much! The fact that people like Luka makes me happy and I want to support that and I hope to see more Luka content!

But when it comes to my personal preferences, when I really like something I tend to stick with it and the ships I actively search for are these three:

My absolute favourite is Lukloe and Lukanette! I also really really love what Liluka brings to the table (my biggest guilty ship). So these three are my top tier, and what you will most likely see me make content for 💙

I have recently seen the appeal with Lukadrien and think it's cute but I think I prefer Feluka over it!

I'm neutral with Lukagami (if you have a good fic recommendation I'm likely to check it out but won't search for it).

I tried looking up Lukzoe at one point but didn't find anything so I'm not sure. I don't think I'll be a huge fan but I could be wrong! Currently I have too little to form an opinion of it.

The idea of Bunnix-Viperion sounds appealing to me, the two time-based heroes! But I'm not sure if I ship it or just like the platonic dynamic.

So the S5 finale just came out, what's your opinion on it?

Hey Anon! Thank you for asking! I think I answered a similar question not too long ago. But good question nonetheless 😄

To be completely honest, I didn't like season 5 very much, it feels like the entire season was made to retcon many things from season 4 and any criticism the show recived previously (season 4 is still my least favourite one).

I mentioned in a previous post that I would drop the show after what they did to Luka in Migration. He is the only reason I'm still watching and with the spoilers of the finale and that he came back I might start watching the show, but probably only to watch episodes featuring him. Though to be completely honest I'm not very sure if I want to continue watching the show.

I will still make fanart and fics, I've simply just turned to the fandom instead :3

I must admit , I shipped feligami before they were cannon so I was super happy about that! I really liked Felix even when he was first introduced (and was a jerk). Considering he was the og Adrien in the pv version and knowing Astruck, I knew Felix was not going to be a villain as opposed to what many thought.
