The Boy Next Door (Captain America x original character)
The night was young and so were the two relieved soldiers still in uniform, who were walking down a quiet light street. Both were quite tall around 6 feet, the one walking closest to the street on the sidewalk was blonde with handsome blue eyes and a self conscious feel about him as though he wasn’t really wanting to be there, while the other gentlemen which you could hardly call him, was completely at home in his surroundings. He had brown hair that was combed back, but unlike his friend had a few strands on the right side falling over his forehead, his eyes were the same colour as his companion’s and he wore a cunning smile. The two men just kept walking past the shops when suddenly the brown haired man stopped in front of what seemed to be a nightclub. He turned to his friend with a wide grin. “No.” The blonde gentlemen said with a stern look on his face. “Aw, come on Steve! Why not?” “You know perfectly well why not.” Steve replied indignantly. Crossing his arms over his chest. “Oh please we don’t have to leave till morning, a few minutes wouldn’t change anything.” His point may have seemed well enough for some people, but for the one and only Captain America there was no time for play while the war was going on. Llo “Bucky do I have to remind you what happened the last time you talked me into going to a nightclub?” Ah yes that had been a true disaster. Bucky had begged Steve to go to a pub with him when they were in London and they had stayed out till 4 am, Bucky was completely drunk and could barely walk, but luckily Steve who had drank as much as Bucky ,but was metabolically unable to get drunk got them to their hotel, packed their bags, and got them to the 6 o’clock train just before it was heading off. Now that was a stressful morning for Steve that he did not want to repeat. “Steve.” Bucky lowered himself to one knee and still looking up at his best friend opened his arms out in a yielding manner. “I promise you on my grandmother’s grave that I will not let what happened in London repeat itself tonight.” He declared as he still looked up with pleading eyes. Steve looked down at his comrade in disbelief and embarrassment, then looked around to see if anyone was looking. No one was, then he looked back down at his friend, he pondered the thought of them going into the nightclub, he knew that that dreadful morning would repeat itself there was no changing that, not even if Bucky swore on the graves of every ancestor he had, that was just the kind of person he was. He was just about to say no when he got this feeling in his gut, this strong gut feeling that there was something or someone in that fancy nightclub that he just had to find. He had always learned to trust those gut feelings and they had never failed him before so with a heavy sigh he threw his hands up in the air. “Alright, but this time try not to drink all the alcohol in the place.” Bucky jumped up and whacked Steve on the back. “Yes Captain!” he chuckled, leading them into the nightclub. He could hear the band playing the moment they walked in. It was quite the place; red velvet curtains hung at the entrance opening up to a large room with a small stage that had a band playing, in front of the stage was a dance floor surrounded by circular tables covered with white cloth, dozens of couples crowded the space holding each other closely, dancing to the slow jazz music that played. Only a few people were seated at the tables, but Steve could tell that the moment the song ended that almost all the seats would be gone. He just stood there dumbfounded at how many people could be fitted into one space while Bucky just grin and looked around as if it were christmas and all the young women there were presents from him to unwrap. A man in a black suit and and bow tie walked over to the two men with a welcoming smile and a thick french accent, he asked if it was just the two of them. Bucky told the host that it was just the two them for the evening, and with that the two soldiers were lead to their table which had a perfect view of the stage both from the stage and from the audience. The men settled themselves in their seats and ordered two glasses of scotch which would mostly likely be consumed by Bucky. As the song ended and their drinks arrived the lights began to dim in the room and a spotlight appeared on the closed red velvet curtains of the stage, the audience begins to clap as the band starts. First came the violins as they play the intro to the song “The Boy Next Door” by Blane, Ralph / Martin, Hugh, the curtains parted to reveal a young woman wearing a spaghetti strapped emerald green floor length silk gown with a flower beaded pattern starting from the right side of her chest crossing over to end at her left thigh. Her red hair had been pinned up on the right side allowing her fiery curls to fall perfectly down her left shoulder, her plump lips lightly painted red opened as she began to sing. The moment I saw him smile I knew he was just my style My only regret is we've never met Though I dream of him all the while In that moment Steve had forgotten how to breathe as he looked into the greenish blue eyes of the women singing on the stage. Her skin was like peaches and cream, he thought it didn’t seem possible for someone to look so fragile and soft while at the same time have such a powerful effect on the supersoldier. He leaned forward bringing his elbows onto the table and placing the palms of his hands on his chin hoping that he could make the distance between him and the beautiful woman even remotely smaller. But he doesn't know I exist No matter how I may persist So it's clear to see There's no hope for me Though I live at fifty-one-thirty-five Kensington Avenue And he lives at fifty-one-thirty-three Steve hung onto every word she sang wishing that the song she was singing was actually about him, which he sadly knew that wasn’t the case, he had only just seen her now, no words had ever been spoken between the two or even a quick nod or wave of hello, but he felt as though he had known this girl for his whole life, not personally of course but in the sense that he had always dreamed of meeting a nice pretty young lady just like the one singing on that stage. Just as he was thinking of this, the fair singer’s eyes turned to meet with his. Steve could feel his heart stop as her gaze did not move off of him. How can I ignore the boy next door? I love him more than I can say Doesn't try to please me, doesn't even tease me And he never sees me glance his way In that moment Steve couldn’t contain himself, in an instant he was standing, his hands on the table staring straight at the red haired beauty who still kept her eyes on him. Bucky looked up at Steve in confusion along with a couple other audience members who looked more annoyed then confused, realising how foolish he looked Steve quickly sat back in his seat looking down at his lap blushing uncontrollably. But that feeling subsided and he looked back up to watch the young woman in the green dress, he was surprised and a little panicked to find that she was no longer on the stage but right in front of his table, still holding her microphone to her lip she continued to sing directly to him. And though I'm heart-sore, the boy next door Affection for me won't display I just adore him so I can't ignore him The boy next door As she ended the verse and the band started to play a small dance sequence of the song she placed the microphone on the table and held out a hand for Steve to take. She smiled a warm, kind smile at him that made him feel like the luckiest man in the world. He eagerly took her hand, she lead him to the center of the dance floor and they began to dance. The world seemed to dissolve around them till there was only the two of them and the music. She stared up at him with such entrancing eyes that as he looked at them longer and longer he felt like he was falling into them. He grin down at her bashfully and she return his smile with a blush and a downward tilt of the head, but she quickly brought her head back up to look at him as the song came to an end, they had both stopped dancing and as the last few notes were played by the violines she sang the finale verse still looking deeply into Steven’s eyes. I just adore him so I can't ignore him The boy next door After she sang her last note the whole room grew silent, neither of them had dared broken their eye contact until the audience started to roar with applause, the room felt like it was shaking from all the claps, cheers, and whistles that came from the people of the room. Bucky was standing and whistling at their table. The young lady had moved so that Steve’s hand was no longer on her waist but she still held her small hand in his large one, taking a small curtsy and gesturing to him with her free hand that he should take a bow, which he did. Thank you for reading and don't worry I'll post some more soon 😊 Please leave me comments and suggestions
