Imagine yandere vampire hunter finding out he married one of the creatures he vowed to destroy. The very monster he dedicated his entire life to kill.
“…no..i-it can’t be..” his voice was barely a whisper, but you heard it loud and clear as if he was right next to you.
You stood still in the darkness, your face was a mask of indifference. If you hadn’t been blinking he would have mistook you for a statue. It appeared you’d been careless and let yourself be seen- by him no less. You could still feel the warmth of the blood dripping down you chin; a curtain of red fell down the front of your dress and stained it.
“Please tell me this isn’t real..” your husband let his eyes wander to the soon-lifeless body laying not far away. Small puffs of air was seen coming for the person, indicating they were not yet dead. The disgusting sound of gurgling in one’s own blood sent a shiver down his spine. His eyes met yours, searching for any sort of confirmation that everything was indeed a figment of his imagination.
“It is, I’m afraid.” You said.
He let out a devestatd choke, muttering ‘no’ over and over while shaking his head, clearly in denial.
You reminded yourself not to show any emotion and stepped forward. “I will not lie to you and therefor I will utter the clear truth in front of you. I am a vampire.”
“No, no you’re not.” He refused to believe it. If it had been his friend; he would prioritise duty before friendship. If it was his brother; he would do the same. Even if it was his own parents; he would die before letting insensible things such as emotions to come in the way of doing what is right. But this was different. It was you. It can’t be you. It could never be you.
But it was. Clearly. The evidence- the body- was right in front of him; unblinking and unmoving.
“You cannot look away from what is in front of you-“
“Stop saying that!” He suddenly shouted, surprising you with the sudden change in tone. “You can’t be one of….them.” He expressed in great repulsion.
Despite knowing how evil your kind is, you still though of yourself as quite good- well, as good as you can be when you’re a blood sucking, murderous creature of the night. So your husbands disdain awoke some sort of defensiveness in you.
“Well I am. And I have been for a while now.”
He seemed to think for a moment. Then he asked, “how long? How long have you been a…a vampire?” He furrowed his brow at the end, not believing he’d connect ‘you’ and the word ‘vampire’ in his life.
“36 years. Not as long as some others, but it should still count as something.”
“Oh god..”
It meant that you were one since the start- no before- your marriage. Was he truly that blind? Had love taken such hold of him that he could no longer do his job properly?
How many vampires had he killed during you union? All that while simultaneously being wed to one himself. While loving one, caring for one and even making passionate love to one. It was like some fucked-up punishment tailor-made for him.
He knew what he had to do.
The first tear fell down his cheek, betraying his stern expression and showcasing his endless sorrow. “You are evil,” he raised his crossbow, “and now you have to be judged for your crimes.” How ironic of him to talk about committing crimes of slaughter as if he wasn’t doing exactly the same. He wasn’t stupid; not all immortals were pure darkness, it wasn’t that simple. They do what they have to in order to survive. Only some killed more than they had to. Still, it didn’t change the fact that they all need to be destroyed.
Your eyes widened when he pointed the weapon straight at you. You expected this. Of course he would kill you. However, a part of you could not stop from hoping he wouldn’t think of you as a monster. That perhaps you’d finally find somewhere you can call home and be accepted for what you are. It was a naive dream. Weren’t you his wife before you were a monster? Apparently not, because an arrow shot at you at incredible speed. It hit you in the arm and you cried out in pain.
While you had physical advantages, it doesn’t mean you are immune to pain.
Ripping it out, you studied the black liquid staining it. Your husband swore and immediately prepared to launch another. You felt your fangs grow in length and you hissed at him. Throwing yourself at him the two of you rolled around on the floor, each trying to restrain the other. You managed to get ahold of his crossbow and threw it away form his reach.
Your husband quickly dug into his pockets to grab a dagger, and tried to stab you. Luckily you stopped him in time, fighting him with your vampiric strength. You had to give it to him, he was surprisingly strong for a human. Despite you having supernatural gifts, he was definitely a match and you had a hard time holding you down. If it was any other situation you would have been impressed and rather seduced by his sheer strength, unfortunately this was not a good situation for you.
You leaned down, planning to bite him, but his fast reflexes let him use his free arm to keep you at a distance. He was now on the floor with you straddling him and trying with all your might to end his life.
Your husband knocked your heads together which was the distraction he needed to kick you off of him. You clenched you forehead in pain and backed away. But there was no more time to dwell on that pain, because it was minor compared to what you felt next. Agony was in your side, accompanied by the dagger you had previously defended yourself against.
Your lover was close. Enough for you to feel his breath, and enough for you to see tears running down his regretful face.
“Why was it you?”
Whether he referred to you being a vampire or you being the one he married, you did not know. It hardly mattered anyway.
In a way, you did love your husband. It was probably not in the normal spousal way but it was there. Maybe if you weren’t a blood-sucker you two would have been truly happy together. Too bad fate had other plans. Even though it was true that you were probably evil, you wanted to live. And despite the one threatening your existence was none other than the man who’d show a you devotion and love you though t you’d never find again, this was not where you wanted it to end.
With a shriek, you used all your power to push him as hard as you could. He flew backwards into the wall. You supposed he’d fainted from the force since he wasn’t making any move to get up. You clutched your side and groaned. You had to get out of there; somewhere safe.
You stumbled to the window and put your foot on the ledge. The dagger he’d stabbed you with must be silver, otherwise it wouldn’t have made as much damage. The wound in your side burned and sizzled with pain. You had no idea if your body would be able to fully heal you in time for when you need blood again- or even at all.
“Ugh….”
You heard a cough from behind you. It was your dearest. He must be sturdier than he looks to have woken up so quickly. He had rolled over to lay on his stomach and had his arms pathetically stretched in your direction.
“D-don’t go.”
You scoffed at his audacity. “What, so you can finally finish me off?”
He whimpered, “ N-no, I’m sorry… I shouldn’t have done that- why did I do that?” The last part appeared to be a criticism on himself. Nevertheless he continued, “please, I won’t do it again. I was wrong, you’re not evil I know that, I don’t know why I said that. I’m so sorry, please..”
A frown adorned your face. “It’s okay. I’m not evil, but I know I’m far from good- I’m not that delusional.” Then you turned back to the view of the outside world.
“Wait, no-“
“I have to go. I really mean it when I say this, ‘thank you for all these years together, they have been the happiest days I am now able to remember’.
“My love, don’t-“
You ignored his pleas as you jumped from the window. You landed in the dirt outside. You looked back at the house which you’d just escaped from and as you prepared to run off to another town and build up a new life (until you’d eventually have to run again) you listened to the scream of the man who’d been your husband for six years.
What was he screaming? What else if not your name.

Concept: Yandere Farmer x Gn Reader
Tw: Delusional Yandere, Age-gap?, Obsessive, Possessive, Brief Nsfw mentions, Underwear stealing thief 😡
Summary: You and Atticus go on a date to town for supplies.
Word count: 1.7K -> Link to PT 1 (Not necessary to read but does help to understand context) Taglist: @velvetvibes @undeadwaters@lemonlimesocks@justloveme@ladywolf44005@azoart
Tumblr media
-Yandere Farmer who’s convinced your group that a mechanic won’t be able to arrive for at least another week. The four of you are fine with it since it’s currently summer break. There’s no need to rush back immediately.
-Yandere Farmer who puts everyone to work on the farm outside. Nobody gets to stay at his home for free (even though they technically paid.) The labor is tiring, demanding and grueling underneath the hot summer sun. It irritates him listening to the city folk complain about a few hours of work. Thankfully, a single look is enough for them to stop complaining.
- You’re the exception.
-Yandere Farmer who asks you to complete some house chores. You’re given a list of priorities which range from cooking to doing the laundry. He doesn’t scold you if you don’t complete the list. He can’t bear to see you unhappy. It’s difficult work sometimes trying to finish it all. He’d hate for you to tire yourself out.
-Regardless of your cooking skills, Yandere Farmer enjoys the meals you make for him. It tastes different when you cook it. Almost sweeter somehow.
-Last night, you’d asked him if he could take you into town. You wanted to make a special type of dinner but needed some more ingredients.
-At first, Atticus wasn’t too keen on the idea. He despised going into town. They talked too much and word always spread like wildfire. However, he realized he could twist it into his favor.
-This morning, he woke up earlier than usual. He made sure to bathe and attempted to wash all the grime off. From underneath his nails to his hair. He didn’t want you to be disgusted with him.
-He donned his prized blue button up with a pair of clean boots. Everything was perfect down to the last hair. You’d be so proud strolling through town with him now.  Atticus double checked his reflection in the mirror as he recalled yesterday’s memories.
- He snuck into your room after he heard you go downstairs. The door was locked behind him as rummaged through your bag. Honestly, you were going to be his spouse soon so he had no qualms about snooping.
-The bag was like a treasure box filled with goodies. Atticus wanted to take everything inside but you’d notice if so many items went missing. He settled on a pair of cute red underwear. His breath grew heavy as his hands traveled down.
-Every scenario ran through Atticus’s mind with the red underwear in hand. You under him. You on top of him. You’d be moaning as he left kisses on your shoulders and neck. There’d be traces of his love on each inch of your body.
-He jumped when he heard the door knob rattle. It twisted and turned. The intruder pounded on the door desperate for it to open. They tried a few more times. Finally, they gave up.
-His heart still pounded loudly in his chest as he came down from the lust high. God, that was close. Atticus cleaned up the area and neatly put your items back in the bag. However, the red underwear slipped into his pocket.
-Atticus examined himself one last time before leaving the room. His footsteps were loud and clomped all the way down the stairs. He noticed you standing near the front door waiting for him.
- For the first time in his life, Atticus felt odd knots in his stomach. His heart was palpitating when he saw you looking all dolled him for him (At least, that’s what he’d like to believe.)
-You smiled at him. Gosh, you were so gorgeous. The morning sunrise couldn’t compare to you. You outmatched the prettiest flower in the field.
“You look swell today.” Atticus grumbled out. He inwardly cursed himself for not sounding chipper.
“You’re so sweet, Atticus! I think you look amazing as well. Your shirt really compliments you.” You beamed back at him.
“Hm.”
-Yandere Farmer who walks right past you. His face was stoic but underneath it all was a range of emotions. His palms were sweaty and he could hear his heartbeat reverberate in his ears.
-Yandere Farmer guided you to the red pickup truck outside. His two dogs, Otto and Earl excitedly ran around your legs when they noticed you. They sniffed you trying to find signs of treats. The two dogs were so large that they almost knocked you over.
- Atticus wrapped his arm around you to support your balance. Atticus had always warned you about feeding the dogs treats. Obviously, you hadn’t listened to him.
“Stop bothering them. Get back to work.” Atticus barked at the dogs.
“Be nice, Atticus. They’re just cute little puppies who deserve a snack!”
You grabbed some treats from your pockets to feed the dogs. They yipped happily and munched down on them. Atticus held his tongue as he stared at the supposed puppies. You clearly had a soft spot for those demons. Unfortunately, You had no idea that they were taking advantage of your generosity.
-Finally, the dogs left to finish their duties. Atticus opened the door for you as you slid into the passenger seat. The door creaked as he shut it close. He walked to the driver's side then started the car.
-You stuck your head out the window as you waved to everyone. You called out for them to be on their best behavior and that you’d be back soon.
-Your friends tearfully waved goodbye as the car drove off. They were so thankful that you begged the farmer to take you into town. He’d finally given them a day off to relax.  The farmer terrified them to no end. You were the only one who didn’t notice his domineering behavior. In fact, you insisted that he was so gentle and kind.
“Gentle and kind, my ass” They all thought whenever you gushed about him.
-He pulled you towards the farmer’s market near the town square.  Atticus watched as you marveled over the town. It was a quaint place to say the least. Rows of shops lined up against one another with a bright white church standing out in the middle of town. Children’s laughter could be heard along with scolding mothers. The smell of freshly baked bread wafted through the air.
-You excitedly went off to explore the vendors. Atticus trailed behind making sure to keep an eye on you. There were so many people and he didn’t want you getting lost.
-He chuckled slightly as you bought items from one booth to another. You seemed like a small squirrel gathering food for the winter. Atticus took the items from your arms and placed them into his bag.
-His attention was pulled away by a short old woman. Her hair was visibly graying with wrinkles starting to settle in. She grinned as they made eye contact.
“Hey there, son. Thought you’d fallen in a ditch somewhere since I hadn’t seen your face in a while.” The old woman called out.
“Apologies for not showing up more, Ma’am.”
“Just glad to see you doing well. Also, seems like quite the looker you got. Anything serious or just for fun?”
“Plan on marrying em’ soon.”
“Well bless your heart. I was afraid you’d be lonely forever. You know, I’ve been praying for the good lord to send you someone. Thankfully my prayers were heard. When’s the wedding?”
“Thinkin’ a few months. Year at the latest.”
-Atticus continued to converse with them. They grinded on every detail about his love life. He answered as honestly as possible.Maybe over-exaggerating a bit here and  there though. Mentioning how you met due to your friend’s car breaking down and how he heroically saved you a few months ago.
-He clenched his jaw as the vendor raddled on. The vendor was a gentle old woman but her ramblings gave Atticus multiple headaches. It was difficult not to just shut down and ignore them. However, he was aiming for the long game. Patience was a virtue.
“Atticus, I think it’s starting to rain soon. I felt some droplets on my arm. We should go home now.” You said as you came behind him.
“Well-”
“Dear, you should stay a night in town then. I heard it’s about to be raining dogs and cats out there. Go down to the inn by South St and tell them Donna sent you. They’ll give you a small discount.”  The woman interjected.
“I’m not sure. What do you think, Atticus?” You asked, staring at him.
“Of course, he agrees. Plus, might give you two some alone time.” The old woman shot Atticus a wink.
-Atticus wasn’t sure what kind of psychic powers that old woman had. When they arrived at the inn, they were informed there was only a single queen size room left. You tried asking for different options but the staff said, there was nothing they could do.
-You two were currently laying in bed next to each other. (With a pillow divider much to his dismay)
-Originally, you wanted to sleep on the ground but he refused that. You deserve the best. Plus, what if your neck was stiff tomorrow or your back hurt? He couldn’t let that happen.
-It took a while for you to relent. Atticus endlessly coaxed and reassured you that it was fine to share the bed. However, you only agreed with the pillow divider as a compromise.
-Atticus could smell the body wash you used. The scent was sweet with a mix of coffee laced underneath. It took all his will power to not press his lips against yours. The image of your face all red with your moans in his ears. Yesterday’s fantasy began to play in his head and he could feel something rise.
“I had so much fun today, Atticus. I appreciate you taking me out.” You said from your half of the bed. Your voice breaking him out of his trance.
“My pleasure.”
“I’m so excited to make dinner tomorrow for us. I’ll work really hard for it to taste good.”
“Can’t wait to try yer cookin’. ”
“And Otto and Earl will be so happy for more treats.”
“I’m sure they will.”
“And my friends will be so happy to see us safe tomorrow.” You mumbled as you drifted off.
-His mood soured immediately. There were still pests at home to exterminate. Atticus wasn’t above shoving a knife in their chest or feeding them to his pigs. Still, those methods were extremely messy. The chances of you finding your so-called “friends” were pretty high. He didn’t want to start his marriage off on a bad foot.
-You grumbled in your sleep. He chuckled then gently traced your face with his hand.
-Whatever
-He’d enjoy the moment with you now. Those vermin could wait to be dealt with.
-Atticus leaned down and kissed your forehead.
“Goodnight, Doll.”

A danmei lover's biased and incomplete het web novel rec list
@mercipourleslivres thanks for inspiring me!
When it comes to Chinese web novels, I mainly read danmei. I tend not to care too much for OP heroine with a hero who dotes on her for no reason as she fights with 14 year olds narratives, nor inner courtyard fights. BUT!!! There are some het web novels I like and so here is my biased and incomplete rec list. Most of these don't have OP heroines, and very little to none courtyard fights.
Before I start, my favorite het web novel authors are: Gong Xinwen, Mo Shu Bai, Peng Lai Ke, and Jiu Lu Fei Xiang. I have yet to read anything bad by them.
Anyway, rec list:
1000 Miles of Bright Moonlight - one of my ultimate favorites, this would make such an epic drama! A smart as hell heroine, a hero who is a monk and a warrior (but also terminally?) ill and such a vivid world and amazing secondary characters (heroine’s brother is possibly my favorite supporting character of all time) and so much angst and happy ending. This has an amazing romance but it’s not romance-centric if it makes sense - ML doesn’t appear for a while. But once he does, it’s worth it!
Accompanying the Phoenix - the one that just got adapted into The Legend of Shen Li, this is high adventure and cottage core and funny and tragic and powerful ML being putty in the hands of capable FL and just EVERYTHING.
Apocalypse Arrival - Gong Xinwen’s novels are made just for me. Her heroines are always powerful as fuck and rescue abused MLs. In this novel, our heroine who lives in the post-apocalyptic world, wakes up right before that apocalypse happens. She forms a survival crew and also rescues ML who has miraculous blood and has been drained of it and is now hunted after the rescue for it. SO GOOD!!!
Black Moonlight Holds the BE Script - so fucked up, so good, with monster hero who learns to love and be human and heroine who learns to love and be human (but from the other side, her tower of perfection.) Much better than the drama which I did enjoy.
The Blue Whisper - the drama was so-so, but the novel is a bona fide angst masterpiece, which really delves into what it feels like to be imprisoned or to love.
Counterattack of the Cannon Fodder Chambermaid - I remember starting this and loving the realistic feel and the heroine and wanting to stab the hero and @mercipourleslivres telling me to be patient. She was right, by the end I was on board with both the hero (who was abused and is rather autistic-coded) and the OTP. Anyway, heroine is a servant who was a concubine in the last life and got killed as part of a rich family’s harem intrigues. In this life, she just wants to keep her head down but her life gets derailed anyway. She gets sold away and eventually made a servant in the household of an exiled prince who takes a fancy to her and she endures it because what choice does she have? All she wanted was to serve out her term and become a small time merchant. This is quite realistic about lack of options for women, especially lower class women or upper class male attitudes (ML is never vicious or mean to FL but it does not initially occur to him to wonder if she fancies him or enjoys being his concubine or w/e.) It is a DELIGHTFUL slow burn tho as they grow to love each other and grow together and become one of the most wholesome cnovel couples out there.
Dandere General and His Lord - hi there, Gong Xinwen! God, I love this one. Heroine transmigrates from modern world into a brutal slave-holding world at war (think something like Warring States era.) Our heroine transmigrates into the body of a noblewoman who just hung herself. When she comes to, she discovers that woman’s twin brother was the ruler of a city poisoned by a rival claimant and the besieging army of said claimant is about to take the city and original occupant of the body and the rest of the family chose suicide as a way to avoid dishonor. Our heroine refuses, schemes with advisors to pass as the brother and rally the troops. Once the invaders are defeated, she keeps on the masquerade and rides off to one of the never-ending wars “she” is summoned to. Our hero couldn’t be farther from this. A slave and a son of a slave, he’s escaped a horrific, starving childhood during which he narrowly avoided being murdered or raped, and ended up in the army. When the story opens, he distinguished himself in battle and as a reward, he and a few of his fellow slave warriors are invited to a banquet, where they are given some alcohol and to be playthings of any nobles who want them. One of them does not survive this but ML is lucky - heroine feels terrible and so “claims” him for herself. Instead she just tends to his wounds and sends him back. She does not fancy him or anything, she is just a human being with a conscience. And the story goes from there.
Demon King's Repayment - another delicious Gong Xinwen tale with a powerful ML dedicated to capable FL. This one is a great fantasy plot (I keep imagining it as an animated series) and a sprawling cast of amazing secondaries (and secondary OTPs - there is, I swear, an OTP that is Dong Hua x Feng Jiu done thru GXW lens) to boot.
Doomed to Be Cannon Fodder - I hesitated to put this one on the list because by the end I was not keen on how misogynistic novel got to original female lead but it was one of my earliest novels and I loved it for 90% and it’s fucking hilarious at times. Heroine transmigrates as bit villainess into a novel, all she wants is not to die, but her new attitude of “pls stay away” catches the attention of her terrifying general husband. Honestly, imo still worth it.
Dreamer in the Spring Boudoir - my n1 novel on this list, smart and fierce and don’t really read this for romance because it does not start until really late, but ice cold heroine x ice cold hero both of equal brains and ruthlessness is everything. I went from loathing the ML to finding him fascinating to adoring him (and yet he softened around the edges only for FL, he never became “nice”) and loved FL throughout; secondaries are epic. If you read only one non-danmei web novel, make it this one.
The Emperor’s Beloved Ugly Girl - my n2 novel on this list. Our heroine is the unlucky laundry maid A’Chou. She is a di daughter of an upperclass family but her family got destroyed in one of the political upheavals of the time and A’Chou, only a small child at the time, was the only survivor and was made an enslaved laundry maid. Due to various events, at the start of the novel she is a laundry maid in a minister’s household and the minister’s beloved daughter is having a fit because she’s supposed to marry the former Crown Prince which may have been great a few years back but Crown Prince had since been deposed, tortured, imprisoned and now is living in the middle of nowhere under conditions that are too meager to be called house arrest. And he’s seriously crippled too. Understandably, the young lady doesn’t want to marry him! She’d rather kill herself and so she does. And so, a desperate plan is hatched - why don’t we pretend the laundry maid is the di daughter of the minister’s household and send her off? And so A’Chu is sent as the bride. She arrives to discover a broke, seriously injured man on the verge of death…and we go from there. This is so gorgeous and tender and slow in just the right way and like AAAAAA! Secondary OTPs (one of which is MM) are also epic.
Futu Tower - the drama (Unchained Love) was a mess but the novel is such a lovely, dark exploration of coming back to life, for the ML from his dark revenge-strewn path and for heroine from not being allowed wishes of her own. She is a tribute bride, he’s a (fake) eunuch, they are both servants who use themselves to achieve goals and find peace and happiness together.
The Grand Princess - a tale where both members of the OTP reincarnate as their younger selves after killing each other in their 50s, and get a new start, this is smart and slow and so good in portraying old souls in young bodies. Their rediscovery of not just each other but themselves and their passion for living is just AAAAAA!
Heroine Saves Gentleman - Gong Xinwen novel so we have a tough martial artist lady saving a very upper class scholar and it goes from there. If elegant gorgeous ML being saved and protected (and lovingly dommed) by awesome FL is your bag, pls come right in.
Husband Be a Gentleman - schemer meet schemer. He’s an idle prince she’s perfect daughter, in reality both are wolves out for blood. Mmmm. Very OTP gets together early and is us against the world.
I’ll Be the Male Lead’s Sister in Law - one of my all time favorite novels. Heroine is made to marry a disabled nephew of the emperor. He used to be a victorious god of war but went mad and now is basically locked away and kept as a beast. GOD I LOVE THIS NOVEL SO MUCHHHHH! So much hurt/comfort and awesome OTP and after he eventually recovers, all he wants to do is to fight and murder things and dote on wifey. MMM. He’s honestly one of my fave MLs.
I Married a Disabled Tyrant After Transmigrating - if you have a Florence Nightingale complex, this is for you. Heroine wakes up as tribute bride to an almost dead dragon lord and slowly nurses him back to life as his rivals try to murder him. They are both utter adorable babies!
Let the Villain Go - another Gong Xinwen novel, this and Apocalypse Arrivals are AUs of each other. Heroine is surviving in the apocalypse, ML is the “bugbear” of the world but in reality just reacting to all abuse and torture and after she accidentally saves him, devotes himself. Fun fun fun!
Long Wind Crossing - Amazing ML and FL who grow together, clever plot, arranged marriage to love etc etc. Oh, and one point he feeds her his blood to keep her alive, what’s not to love? (Adapted into Chang Feng Du/Destined)
Lost You Forever - this is a short but delicately wistful tale of trauma and loss and love, wrapped in a high fantasy setting but so relatable despite it.
Love In Another Life: My Gentle Tyrant - so so fucked up in the best way! ML cannot live with OR without heroine. It opens on them banging in jail night before her execution (ordered by him) with corpses of men he killed for trying to defile her cooling nearby. If you want healthy relationships with respectful boundaries, gentle and considerate male leads who are modern men in period clothes, OP heroines who have everyone help them and are OP to the max, fluff and wholesomeness, that is about the worst book for you.If you want complexity, dysfunction, darkness, pain and an absolutely lyrical even if fucked up story, come right IN!!!!I am so fucking in love with the melancholy heroine, with ruthless psycho hero and the endless regret and devotion and paaaaain!
The Marquis Is Innocent - our heroine is a beautiful woman married to a warlord who hates her family. (Yes, this was gonna be The Prisoner of Beauty until SZE tax scandal.) Except she's a transmigrator from the future who knows how it ended last time around and has no interest to end up this tragically. This is in my top 5 - FL is smart but believably so (and doesn't have super battle powers) and ML is a believable period warlord. The way their relationship develops so gradually and the way his character changes so gradually as well (and the way they slowly fall in love, her slower than him) is just amazing. It is such a smart, nuanced, gorgeous slow burn. With some gonzo sex scenes :P
Mulberry Song - you like tragic endings? Come right IN! This is short and heartbreaking and wistful and very what-if.
Nightfall (Ever Night) - so long but also so smart and unusual and bloody and tho it’s not primarily a romance, you will never see another ML who loves his FL as much as Ning Que does his Sang Sang.
Offering Salted Fish to Master - in some ways, this novel is a mess, but I am recommending it because this is a rare example of "nope he's 100% a villain and murderdude and odd, but he does love the heroine" that the author commits to.
Pihanjin - yet another awesome PLK novel, this is once again, like with Marquis, a ruthless man and a beautiful woman getting a second chance on a second go-around. FL is a lot more wounded this time around though. If you LOVE watching ML grovel and slowly, gradually win FL over, this one is for you.
Princess Agents - a dark tale with an incredibly competent and militarily powerful/ruthless heroine and two terrifying men who love her (but neither is as terrifying as she is.) There is an OTP switch halfway through that shockingly makes sense and it's just SO SO GOOOOOOOD
Rebirth of the Malicious Empress of Military Lineage - this is probably the one “typical” novel on this list, heroine is reborn as her youngest self and gets revenge on those who wronged her last time around. It is really really well-written and heroine is competent, hero is doting and powerful etc. It’s not a trope I tend to love but I do when it’s done THIS well.
Rebirth of the Tyrant’s Pet: Regent Prince is Too Fierce: Borgias cnovel style! Our heroine was empress in last life and put her husband on the throne tho he did not love her. However, he had her executed and had his half-brother carry out the orders and heroine died horrifically. She opens her eyes and she’s a little girl again. The OTP this time around is heroine and half-brother executioner. Why do I love it? Heroine is smart and tough but also this is a rare rebirth novel where heroine does NOT decide to seek revenge for past life wrongs because they haven’t happened yet! In fact, she sees ML abused and stands up for him because he’s a kid and no kid should be mistreated and this go around he hasn’t done anything wrong. She also gets and likes her former life husband. Anyway, this is fakecest galore because she’s supposed to be their half-sister and while she knows (from past life) she is not, they do not and fall for her anyway. ML is especially gonzo, at one point carving chunks of his flesh to save her. He’s feral and unhinged and she’s the one person he worships because she protected him and like - it’s all awesome. (I love secondary ML too.)
Reborn to Love Lord Qiansui - yes, this is a eunuch novel! If you like gender tropes reversals, this one is for you. Heroine is a tough martial artist, hero is a smart as hell and powerful eunuch. A real eunuch. Heroine finds out she owes him her life and decides to protect him. This is a total delight and an awesome love story between two really scarred people. And yes, there is sex - heroine literally reads manuals on pegging :P
Return of the Swallow - so freaking long! But really good. Heroine is neither transmigrator nor reincarnator, just a smart period woman. She is a lost family daughter taken back in. Her father is a minister in a dying empire (father-daughter relationship is one of the best things in this novel), her OTP is enemy general, and the smartness and the awesomeness of this all knows no bounds.
Seven Unfortunate Lifetimes - probably the wackiest JLFX novel I read, this is quite different from Love You Seven Times drama that was adapted from it. Our deity protagonists go through a bunch of lives figuring out they fancy each other. It's light like a souffle but just as delicious.
To Be a Virtuous Wife - some people prefer 8 treasures trousseau but I never warmed up to that one. This one is so good, with smart people (who actually enjoy sex, a ratity) and a perfect mix of plot and romance.
Transmigrator Meets Reincarnator - my very first web novel. A lot lighter than a lot of the ones on this list but a total delight. Heroine transmigrates into a novel as the heroine; she has no interest in drama or chasing true love, she just wants to live a nice life with her nice husband. Too bad for her, her husband has reincarnated into his younger self and remembers how she betrayed him, so is not interested. This one is funny and light and romance doesn’t start till late on but a total delight!
Wishing You Eternal Happiness - this is tied with Dreamer as my favorite het web novel ever though it couldn’t be more different from Dreamer, with its hard-edged and hard-souled protagonists ruthlessly cleaving their way to the world and, eventually, each other, its smart cynical air. Except in one thing - the world of Wishing is just as bloody and dark. Its two protagonists are gentle, deeply wounded souls who may find salvation in each other but even something as basic as safety almost seems out of reach.
Jliafu, our heroine, is neither a modern-day transmigrator, nor some exotic princess or demoness. She is very much a period woman of her time, from a weathy merchant clan, whose beauty is her curse. You can tell the novel’s tone from that utterly bleak opening chapter where she, a favorite concubine of a capricious dying emperor, is ordered to be buried alive with him and is not even given the “grace” of white silk but slowly suffocates in the coffin, scrabbling at the lid. There is no grand threats of vengeance on her part, not dramatic opera events. Just despair and death. The whole introductory chapter is haunted by emotional ghosts - the empress’ unrequited love for the monster on the imperial bed (turning into desire for Jiafu’s suffering after he dies), the emperor slowly dying in his prime after waging too many wars, and his fear of being haunted by Pei Youan, a brilliant if sickly minister who died of illness long ago on one of imperial campaigns. There is no triumph for anyone, only loss.
When she wakes up as still a young woman, all she wants is to escape the same fate. There are no plans for power or revenge, only a desire for survival. And so she latches on asking for help from Pei Youan, the only man in her past go-around who showed any consideration and desire and ability to protect her, though he barely knew her. Pei Youan is probably my favorite het web novel ML. Despite his brains and ability, he drifts through life. In modern terms, he clearly has depression. One of the biggest, best joys of the novel is watching these two very good, very quiet, very wounded people discover happiness and love with each other. I sort of want to cry just thinking about it, tbh.
The Yandere Came During the Night - a bit of fluff that’s oddly delightful. Heroine is reborn as a (fake) sister of ML, she hurts her legs saving him and the “siblings” form a bond that ends up in fakecest delight. They are both smart and efficient and he becomes a sexy marquis etc.

What if Monkey King acted like a yandere?
They're all equally lethal weapons😰😰😰
Tumblr media
(Lmk Wukong) His Yandere Instincts are fueled by his fear of losing you. It probably doesn't help that he has severe attachment. Issues needs to be around you at all times or else? Some very bloody consequences will happen. And if you were a mortal at the time you were dating, he's gonna give you an immortality page without you even knowing. So so don't freak out too much when you're like forty six and you look like your Twenty two
Tumblr media
(NR Wukong) Man's would make a very interesting yandere, Because no one can predict anything he would do. Granted, he does love you. And he's never really worried about losing you to someone else. But that still doesn't mean he doesn't worry. Also, he is slightly a pervert. So I can see him like stealing from you. Small stuff that you don't really knowohh this or considering its old stuff, then you definitely won't notice.
Tumblr media
(Mk Reborn Wukong) I don't even think anybody would notice him as a yandere Because he's the freakin same. Possessive, jealous,Violent blood thirsty and insecure But also we might accidentally strike fear into you. But not fear of the outside world like he wants you to feel but fear of him as well. Don't allow him to know you fear him. Or that's gonna break him in a way you really don't need him to
Tumblr media
(HIB Wukong) Okay the worst I see him do is Isolating you. He would not hurt or threaten you whatsoever, but he definitely wouldn't know how to keep you away from people. First he would be low-key with it. And you wouldn't even notice you'll find yourself distancing away from people your family and friends and soon enough from society. What he's really trying to show was that the only person you're gonna need us have for now and forever.
Tumblr media
(Netflix Wukong) If he was a yandere he would be full of paranoia depression and desperation. He is constantly bombarded with dark thoughts About you leaving him for good. So he makes sure Never give you a reason to leave him whether it's about his behavior or his Appearance he will do whatever it takes to make sure you stay with him. And if none of that Is enough he'll just have to make To wear there's no one else but you and him

The Little Princess and Her Monster Prince (Webcomic)
Created by: Jang namu/Hagwa
Genre: Isekai
This one took me a while to read, but The Little Princess and Her Monster Prince, or I Became the Wife of the Monstrous Crown Prince is genuinely very sweet. Most of it takes place when the two male leads are children and only goes into a big time jump around Chapter 70. The male lead is the yandere in this one, though like I said, considering that he's mostly fairly young, he's much more of the clingy and protective type. There is another yandere that also appears in one of the flashbacks that the main character, Athena has. As of writing this, there are about 80 chapters with the story moving into it's third season fairly soon.
The story starts out with Athena isekaing after waking up in a lake, with her husband, Blake, worried sick over her. After waking up, she immediately goes to find Blake, who seems extremely scared of going near her as he is cursed. Athena, who seems to not care, comforts him and promises to be by his side, which leads to Blake getting very attached to her. Athena promises that his curse will be broken by the age 18, knowing that her sister, Diana will be the one who breaks it. Through this, Athena slowly starts to help with Blake's diet, fires the one in charge as he is embezzling money and thinks about ways to prevent future deaths. While doing all of this, she ends up meeting Richard, a guy that the original Athena had a crush on. Current Athena takes a dislike to him because of the fact that later on he causes both Blake and his father to die, and ends up rejecting him. Blake ends up defending Athena when he tries to strike back, and Athena ends up comforting Blake afterwards when Richard calls him a monster. Athena silently proclaims that she will stay with Blake until Diana is able to undo the curse, to at which point she will have to leave him. We find that Richard seemed like he was originally going to use Athena as a way to take over the kingdom and displace Blake, but since that failed, he has to find another way to go around it. Eventually, Athena ends up meeting Blake's dad, the crown prince to talk about why she ended up firing the one in charge, with this leading him to accept her as his daughter in law. The crown prince sends a spy named Unhan to watch over Blake and Athena as due to the curse he cannot touch or get near Blake without being affected by his curse. As the story goes on, Unhan slowly starts to fall in love with Athena, and we also learn just how much the crown prince cares for his son. Athena gets nightmares about her previous life, with Blake comforting her as she had an abusive father. This time when meeting her father though, she's able to stand up for herself, being able to push him away as he knows that he's trying to use her to take over the crown. The crown prince ends up adopting her (well in the, I will house you kind of way, not actually adopting her) and building her a garden after he sees the abuse that her father gives her. She also learns to dance at the ball, though promises to only have her first dance with Blake.
She ends up making friends with Diana at the ball and introducing her to Blake while she tries to find a way to stop Blake's curse. Blake and Diana end up fighting over who likes Athena more. Athena spends more and more time learning how to break Blake's curse, tracing back the entire thing to a kingdom that fell due to the Goddess of Light. Blake and Diana end up training together, with Diana vowing to get stronger to protect Athena in the future. Diana gets abused by her father as he doesn't want her to learn how to become a knight, and forces her to spy on Athena, else he marries her off. This of course, never comes to fruition as Diana ends up telling Athena what their father is up to. This leads to Blake talking with Athena's father about what happens, and threatening him by showing off what his curse can really do (which burns the father). Diana ends up going to military school (more or less) and Athena ends up meeting Richard again, who is mourning over the death of someone. Knowing that this is where Richard turns to the dark side, Athena tries to give him words of reassurance in hopes that he doesn't go down that path. Blake finds out that Unhan is still following them and confronts him about it, and not too soon after, Athena finds out about him as well.
With this and the crown prince's permission, Athena travels to the cursed kingdom where Blake's curse originated from. There she reads the tablets there to find out more information on the curse as well as some of the memories of the people who were involved. She ends up following some creatures deeper into the castle (with Unhan's help), finding out that the curse actually originated a lot later than what was previously thought, before having to go back. When Athena comes back, she finds that Blake has collapsed due to the curse. Athena is able to stay by him until he gets better, before the two mend a kind of rift that the two had. We also get to see Unhan's younger brother, Baekhan, who is chosen by the god of light and her vessel. Baekhan makes a deal with Athena, stating that he can translate some of the old language that she saw if she can convince Unhan to come back with him to the capital. She succeeds of course, and Baekhan ends up accidentally causing Athena to see memories, finding out that she does have the power of light, the very power that should break Blake's curse. The crown prince has some cute moments with both Blake and Athena after he says goodbye to Unhan. Athena ends up going to the ball, where part of the coup against Blake is revealed, with the crowned prince jailing one of Richard's uncles. Blake's curse disappears the day after with Athena realizing that she doesn't want to let go of Blake that easily. This ends the coup with Richard's family, as Blake is no longer in danger of dying from it (as the curse often kills them before they reach adulthood). Around this time the door of darkness (that's what it's called) from the cursed country opens, with the crown prince going after it. Athena ends up going as well to try to prevent him from dying (as in the story that is where he originally died). Before that though, we see that the curse comes back to Blake for a bit, with Athena realizing that the markings are actually a cry for help from the Goddess of Light herself. She ends up being sucked inside of the door and views the memories of the past.
In the past a girl named Liontel and the goddess of light, Serpania were friends, with Liontel learning how to use light from her. Liontel was in love with Lakshoul, basically the last reincarnation of Blake but with black hair, while Serpania was in love with Phillip, basically the last reincarnation of Richard but with white hair. Ser decides that she will marry Phillip, and promises to transfer all of her powers to him so that she can become human. At this time Liontel and Lakshoul were going to get married too and Liontel ends up talking to Phillip about their weddings. Phillip seems jealous of Liontel's wedding, and when Liontel tells him to try to stop Serpania from transferring her powers, he gets angry. This ends up with Serpania feeling betrayed by Liontel and running away with Phillip, ending with Liontel's wedding being cancelled by a terrible plague. Liontel and Lakshoul stay behind to try to find a cure for the plague, but Lakshoul ends up getting cursed instead before dying. At this point, Phillip suddenly shows up to bring light to the kingdom and become it's king, along with Ser. Phillip ends up throwing Ser aside as she has no more powers, and tries to marry Liontel, revealing that he was just using Ser to gain her powers and end up with Liontel. Liontel finds out that Ser knew that Phillip liked Liontel, but ended up playing along in hopes that he would love her back. Ser reveals that after Phillip took her powers, he used it to spread the plague around. Phillip ends up imprisoning Liontel in the castle for many years, with Ser giving her hope that she will take back the powers from Phillip to set her free. However, what happens instead is that the castle goes on fire, and Phillip ends up revealing that he was the one who likely started the fire and sacrificed Ser. After being imprisoned, Liontel finds out that Phillip lied on the stone to state that Lakshoul was the one who caused the plagues and did nothing about it. Liontel learns that Ser is using the cursed markings as a cry for help, however, Phillip ends up killing the child that has it before Liontel can do anything about it. After viewing all of these memories, Athena ends up coming back to the body of Ser after seven years. Ser, who is angered and bitter, believes that Blake would never love Athena for who she is and the two end up swapping bodies, with Athena in Ser's body and unable to talk or write to Blake. Blake, who has grown up, seems to recognize that it's Athena in Ser's body, however, Athena tries to deny it, as Ser's body will die in about 100 days and she believes that the ending with Diana is still inevitable. Ser tries to get Athena to kill Blake to show that their love is worthless, but she refuses. The last couple of chapters so far show that Ser is trying to trick Blake within Athena's body.
Because the series spends a lot of time with the two as children, we get to see more of their cute encounters and their eventual growth of romance, which I personally think is very nice. I'm pretty biased towards cute characters, so this something that was up my lane. The entire story feels very circular with it's way of writing, and I think it's nice that it's able to develop such a backstory with its world, specifically on the concept of curses and the Goddess of Light. Just as the story starts talking about the two, so does near the end Athena has to experience the same thing, and so does Athena show kindness to Blake while he's suffering with said illness, so does Blake show back the same kindness to Athena, even when he's not sure it's even her. There's also the loop of Athena being so sure to let go of Blake to be with Diana so that it will break the curse, coming to terms with the fact that she indeed wants to stay and then attempting to make Blake stay with Diana because that's how the original story was and that her body will not last long enough to make it worth it. A lot of people will probably simp over the crowned prince, but he is honestly a good dad and we can see where Blake gets his kindness from in the first place. There are some parts that kind of held my suspension of disbelief like when Athena very coincidentally finds Korean food in an otherwise European isekai type of story, or that Richard kind of was just overthrown really easily, but overall, I think that the story did a good job with it's pacing and characters, even if I did kind of wish we got to see Diana more because her arc of becoming a knight seemed pretty interesting. Ser is probably going to get a happy ending despite the (frankly) terrible things that she's done, both either on purpose or out of naivety, which is kind of a bummer cuz it's a dick move to stick your friend into a body that will not only die in a 100 days but cannot communicate to her one love while also stealing your friends body to try to seduce said love.
There are technically two yanderes in the story, Blake, our main male lead and Phillip, the one who caused all of the problems in the past with Liontel. Starting with Blake, he gets very attached to Athena pretty early one due to his isolation and everyone treating him like a monster. I'm a big sucker for the "scared of interaction because I think I'm a monster" kind of thing and them being told that they're not a monster and in turn they get attached type of scenario so it was really cute watching Blake having to go through this. Plus, he's just kind of adorable like that, and I wish his personality would have been the same when he grew up, but alas, that's never how it goes. Blake as a lot of MLs of this type are, generally is pretty tame- he's mostly very clingy towards Athena, gets jealous when she gets near other guys (namely Phillip and Unhan) and can be protective when need be, like when he was able to harm Athena's dad for abusing her. He also gets pettily jealous like with Diana or when he believes that she's danced with someone other than him when she goes to the ball for the first time. Like I said though, he's pretty light for a yandere, not even really attacking anyone who didn't deserve it, like Athena's dad. He is pretty sweet, even when he gets older, still having that more protective side as we saw when he was younger.
Phillip on the other hand is on the completely different end of the spectrum. A lot of his moves on dating Ser and even having a family and kids are more on him gaining power so he can be with Liontel, since he honestly seemed pretty indifferent because he's only ever really loved Liontel, despite her already loving and being engaged to Lakshoul. He's incredibly manipulative, not only tricking Ser into taking her powers and using them to cause the plague that destroyed his country (and Lakshoul), but also ultimately blaming the entire thing on Lakshoul in the tablets that he writes for his death. He pretty much only comes back after Lakshoul dies in the vain hope that Liontel will stay with him, and when that doesn't work, he ends up imprisoning her inside of the castle until he's forced to burn it down and trap her best friend thorough sacrifice. Things only really go worse from there as he kills a child that has the screaming begging of Ser trying to be freed as well as any other person that has the curse on them, eventually, succumbing to the curse itself. All because he wanted to be with Liontel. If that isn't a dark and tragic yandere, I don't really know what is. He is a very good villain yandere though, I will give it that since he pretty much single handedly caused the downfall of the entire kingdom just so he could be with Liontel and caused future generations to still inherit this curse while still somehow ending up being the hero based on the inscriptions.
Overall, I actually did enjoy this webcomic. I feel like this one was kind of more biased than usual just because I really like Blake as a male lead (which is something that doesn't normally happen for me) and because I actually did find the entire lore of the cursed town with Phillip, Liontel and Ser compelling as it's something that's spilled into the current story as well. If you are interested in this story, please give it a try.

These are just some short thoughts abt the background story of the characters ;)
mc moving to the town that she formerly(since she escaped) lived in was a result of trying to avoid hunters. She’d been noticing that someone’s hot on her heel. Also, the few times she met other vampires, they’d told her to look out for the special hunter that’s been lurking around that area.
So she moves again, to a smaller but comfortable town. She comes up with a false identity and charms her way into society. About a month or two after she arrived, another person moves there. yes, it’s the vampire hunter that’s been investigating murders and suspects it’s another vampiric monster. He doesn’t know it’s mc and mc doesn’t know he’s the hunter yet. (They need to be stupid for the plot ok)
Their first meeting was rather indifferent but polite. Not much happened there. However, one of the older ladies mc has helped out before, believes its fate that mc and hunter moved to the village around the same time, they’re also around the same marital age plus they would look so good together!
Thank to some help👵🏻 hunter and vampire mc keep having encounters, which become longer and longer because they find out the other’s company is actually enjoyable.
And POOF they’re getting married✨. Honestly, one should question yan hunter since he somehow had no idea his own wife is a freaking vampire, even though they’ve been together for years🤨 but I guess he’s too blinded by his pookie’s beauty.
Although he’s not stupid enough to not see that the deaths are decreasing, and he doesn’t understand why. Turns out that mc is more careful now that she’s married and has someone that would actually care if she’s going out in the middle of the night. The reason she doesn’t just kill him to make thing easier for herself is because she genuinely likes him and it feels nice to have that kind of devoted love again. One that’s not filled with….dark desires. Her new husband’s love is pure.
Or is it?

Are requests open? Can u do a yandre headcanons of lant agriche being his fav wife
ZOOWEE THAT'S A GREAT IDEA! :D
decided to make reader more willing, but manipulative bc i love the manipulative wife+lovesick fool husband dynamic
Tumblr media
the others in the agriche duchy were no fools to see how much lant cared for you and your child(ren)
you were definitely his first wife, his first and true love, his first everything
although you were definitely more caring and nicer than your husband, you weren't completely harmless, you had a lovesick fool of a duke and trained staff for you to use whenever you see fit
you were a role model for lant's daughters and other noblewomen, defeating other people with your silver tongue and immense influence over others
lant only wants the best when it comes to giving you things, flowers? skillfuly taken care of by one of the best gardeners there is, dresses/suits? you have your own personally hired seamstress/tailor for your and your child(ren)s clothing
lant, in my opinion, is a mixture of both sadism and masochism, although he likes seeing others(including you) in pain, he also likes being hurt by you, the feeling is like a drug he can't get over
he's more lenient towards your child(ren), although he doesn't like weak people, your child(ren) wouldn't meet the same fate as ashil, instead, giving them other roles he thinks that they would be better fit in
as the duchess of black agriche, you're the second most influential and powerful person in the duchy, with lant's other wives being respectful and caring towards you
the same goes towards your step children, although some try to get closer to you out of genuine love and interest, they all were taught to be respectful towards the duchess of the duchy
lant doesn't like it when you interact with other noblemen, it doesn't matter if it's for business, you're his favorite wife and duchess of the black agriche, those pests shouldn't be even looking at your direction!
he definitely has thought of breaking your legs so you wouldn't leave the agriche duchy more than once
you're not allowed to leave the duchy without a few knights, and by a few i mean an army of them

Hella weird but I want Devlin to chase me, like if it’s just an intense game of tag or I’m genuinely trying to run away idc I want that man full on sprinting after me while I’m running away from him. Sounds like a fun adrenaline rush idk
The ride is unusually quiet. Your partner with his rambunctious and unruly self had hyped up the outing up until this point, eerily quiet as his eyes focus on the road. How well that attention spared was beyond you as you were fairly certain he didn't have a driver's license mainly due to the fact he's been alive nearly as long as vehicle transportation itself, but its better not to sweat the small things. He keeps a hand on your leg the entire drive, mindlessly tracing patterns along your thigh muscles. That mischievous grin of his returns as the car breaks to a stop.
"We're here~"
The happy jingle in his voice can't mean anything good, but you pop your seatbelt and follow him outside out of the trust he longed for and you felt you could give. Devlin grabs a bag from the back and your hand as he steps off road and into the treelining. He kisses the top of your hand as he closes your fingers around a flashlight.
"I'm so exciting, babes. No matter what, just remember you'll be safe- as long as you stay close to me and don't pass the blue trees when we get there."
That's definitely comforting. "What are we doing out here?"
That impossible smile only grows. "You'll see."
Devlin leads you into the wood. There's not much on your walk besides trees and rocks, until you come across the stained walls ejected around the forest floor. Vegetation and the hands of time had done their damage, but you could make out what looks to be spray paint art. The tiny monuments gradually incress in size till you're facing down small cobble huts throughout the area. Devlin stops in what appears to be the heart of the field and spreads his arms.
"Ta-da! Cool ain't it?"
You look around, airsoft goggles abandoned by a tree stump. "Is this... a paintball field?"
"Yup. Built right over the cemetery in the town I grew up in. Had some quality fun when was open. Probably the reason it closed too. Yellow eyed devil is what they called me. So fucking lame."
"I'm glad you showed me a part of your past, but is sight seeing all we came to do?"
"Nope."
Devlin snatches your light and tosses it into the trees. He pulls off his coat and lays it over a wall.
You back away as he streches. "I'm confused.."
"I'm gonna hunt ya down, silly. Just a little bonding experience and a way to relieve all the stress I got from watching you mingle with others. Most importantly, it'll be good to see how fast you can run if you flake on me and I have to drag your cute ass back where you belong.
He's dead serious about this. Some warning would've been nice, but the only way out is if you play alone. "What are the roles?"
"You try to make it back to the car without me catching you. It's pretty much a straight line besides the baracades so whether that's an advantage is on you. I'll give you a ten second head start. If you win, I'll do whatever you say for the night. If I win.... well- you'll see soon enough.
It probably would've been best to calculate your chances of winning, but it was clear he was getting antsy. "Alright. I'll play along. You better not be a sore loser like you were when we played operation."
Devlin looks ready to burst from excitement. "Scouts honor. We start in five."
You face the starting point, counting off in your head. You hear Devlin pacing behind you as you get in position. On the final number, your feet sink into the soft earth as you take off. Your countdown continues as you sprint down the path, seconds ticking by until the chase begins. Glancing over your shoulder, you see that Devlin isn't even looking in the direction you're heading. As the second countdown finishes, he takes a knee - running off to your right.
You make up for the wasted time by kicking your flight into second gear. Wasn't the best idea to put all your energy in at the start, but he was up to something and you knew it. Just keep looking ahead and pushing forward. The trees off the path were two dense for him to make it through and somehow catch you. There was probably a trap somewhere or-
Devlin cleans tree leaves out of his hair as he steps onto the path. The fall hurt his ankle, but with a few rolls of his foot it's good as new. You stop dead in your tracks, flinging yourself behind the nearest wall before he can spot you. That bastard was in the trees - waiting for you. You knew he was fast, but that seemed impossible. You peak around the wall to see if he's noticed you.
"Anybody ever tell you how hot you are covered in sweat and afraid?"
Devlin leans over the wall, winking at you as you look up. Grabbing the closest thing to you, you throw a small rock in his general direction as you race off in the direction you came. He catches it and hops over the wall.
"Oh you play dirty, huh? Here I thought I would have to go easy on you."
Your chest burns as you make distance from him as fast as humanly possible. He's gone off road again when you check, but this time you catch a glimpse of him through the thicket of trees right before he bursts out again in front of you. You pedal backwards and into one of the area towers, crawling beneath the glass free window to make it to the otherside. Devlin is already there and covers your mouth before you can scream. He pins you to the wall and celebrates his victory with a kiss to your sweaty skin.
"Looks like I won. I think it's time for the real fun to begin."
Devlin picks you up and sits you on the window sill. You catch your breath as his hands paw your thighs, tongue rolling over your salty skin.
"Another... round."
His ears perk up in tune with his lecherous smirk. "Oh?"
"I... wasn't- ready. If you win, I'll give you... an entire week of doing whatever you want."
Devlin backs off you, the flames of adrenaline rekindled in his eyes and burning brighter than before. "Oh, Y/n. You have no idea what you've just submitted yourself too."

My favorite non-danmei web novels
Since some of you were interested, I decided to make this list. It’s in an alphabetical order since to figure out which I like more than the other is too hard. I have either finished all of these or enough to have an opinion.
SO GOOD!!!
The Blue Whisper - the drama was so-so, but the novel is a bona fide angst masterpiece, which really delves into what it feels like to be imprisoned or to love.
Black Moonlight Holds the BE Script - so fucked up, so good, with monster hero who learns to love and be human and heroine who learns to love and be human (but from the other side, her tower of perfection.) Much better than the drama.
Chang’an’s Greatest Beauty - a starkly realistic look at what happens to a beautiful period woman with no options. She becomes an outside mistress of a powerful aristocrat who she loathes. The delight is when ML, who barely thinks of others as human, falls in love with her and realizes she does not care about him and descends into regret and despair.
Chang Feng Du - reading it right now. Amazing ML and FL who grow together, clever plot, arranged marriage to love etc etc. Oh, and one point he feeds her his blood to keep her alive, what’s not to love?
Dandere General and His Lord - hi there, Gong Xinwen! God, I love this one. Heroine transmigrates from modern world into a brutal slaveholding world at war (think something like Warring States era.) Our heroine transmigrates into the body of a noblewoman who just hung herself.
She arrives to discover a broke, seriously injured man on the verge of death...and we go from there. This is so gorgeous and tender and slow in just the right way and like AAAAAA! Secondary OTPs (one of which is MM) are also epic.
Futu Tower - the drama was terrible but the novel is such a lovely, dark exploration of coming back to life, for the ML from his dark revenge-strewn path and for heroine from not being allowed wishes of her own. She is a tribute bride, he’s a (fake) eunuch, they are both servants who use themselves to achieve goals and find peace and happiness together.
Heroine Saves a Gentleman - Gong Xinwen novel so we have a tough martial artist lady saving a very upper class scholar and it goes from there.
Husband Be a Gentleman - schemer meet schemer. He’s an idle prince she’s perfect daughter, in reality both are wolves out for blood. Mmmm.
Joy of Life - there is NO romance in this one (ML is polygamous) but this is such a smart, snarky delight.
Nightfall (Ever Night) - so long but also so smart and unusual and bloody and tho it’s not primarily a romance, you will never see another ML who loves his FL as much as Ning Que does his Sang Sang.
Princess Agents - dark as fuck, with the best slow burn and heroine who kicks metric tons of ass.
The Rebirth of the Malicious Empress of Military Lineage - this is probably the one “typical” novel on this list, heroine is reborn as her youngest self and gets revenge on those who wronged her last time around.
Revenge of the Cannon Fodder Chambermaid - I remember starting this and loving the realistic feel and the heroine and wanting to stab the hero and @mercipourleslivres telling me to be patient.
