Okay hear me out. A xenaverse tv show where every season is a different reincarnation of Xena and Gabrielle kinda American horror story/doctor who style

Hexadecimal has a rage inside of her that we as women are taugh is not allowed. It’s the same kind of energy as Drusilla from Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Callisto from Xena Warrior Princess.

Hexadecimal couldn’t go against her code. She was programmed to be that way. Powerful, unconventional, insane. Drusilla lived out her immortal pain, caused to her by an evil vampire, pain caused to her by truly evil acts, and she’s allowed to feel her pain for the rest of time, to lash out because of it, to be powerful because of it.

The destruction caused by these characters is not justifiable, but in isolation, the rage they hold is cathartic, empowering, and attractive.

So here is the idea. A Xena reboot but there is a twist. The pilot starts and it's Lucy Lawless and Renee O'Connor having a cute lunch date in present time. Suddenly they start reminiscing about the good old days and bham. The entire first episode of Xena starts airing. And that's the entire concept of the the reboot. Every episode opens up with an immortal married Xena and Gabrielle in present time doing cute couple things for two minutes as an excuse to remember something and we just go straight to airing an old Xena episode. Completely unchanged except for one thing. Kevin Sorbo is digitally removed from all episodes and replaced with Charlize Theron

Working on a Xena + Gabrielle fanfic right now of how they finally got together.

Trying hard to break my writers block curse. I told myself to pretend this fic is my audition to be a writer in any possible Xena reboot or extended universe media. And my fingers went flying.

Phew. This shit is romantic as HELL.

I love a 'how they finally got together' fic. And you know Gabrielle had to fight tooth and nail to get Xena to admit her feels.

Xena really is unmatched, damn what a fantastic show (* excluding literally everything about Joxer - he was a mistake!!). But Xena and Gabrielle's relationship was everything and the show was epic.

No one can match Rene and Lucy, but I really do want a streaming or network *gritty* reboot, where it's just the story streamlined and with Xena and Gabrielle allowed to be even louder about their relationship (let them kiss some more!) xD

The best.

I will say that a dream project for me would be to do a Xena movie that fixes how the show ended and brings back the original actresses for one last adventure… BUT ALSO passes the torch to new young blood that can then be parlayed into a new series (or series of films) from there.

I’ve already got the concept and everything in a treatment, in fact.

But the last time a former manager looked into that world for me years back, turns out the rights/ownership dynamics were an absolute shit show of a situation. Next thing you know, they tried to do that TV reboot, but it was tanked.

So now I’m just hoping over the next year or two maybe I can circle back on my idea with somebody…?

My new team is a lot more connected and powerful and with my new projects coming up, maybe it’s some thing I can make happen. But even if it’s not me, I just hope somebody can bring this duo to screen in a way that truly captures the heart of the original (and preferably with the original actresses, at least one last time, even if it’s just an episode of a new show).

I just think it would be a disservice to go ahead and do a straight up reboot with entirely new actresses just yet I think that should be something that should be done and maybe 5 to 10 years for the next generation of fans, but I think there’s still time to bring back the original actresses for one last hurrah. I know Lucy Lawless has some limitations on things she’s willing to do at this point, but I’ve got a great workaround on that front as well. 😈

Look, if 50-something Seven of Nine from Voyager and elderly TNG actors can have an action-packed adventure 25+ years later on Picard… there’s no reason Xena and its middle aged leads can’t. If everyone can just stop being tricky as far as the rights and creative conflict is concerned, anyway. 🥴

I know I'm late to the party here, but I only just saw the cancelled Xena reboot script and. Y'know. Thank God that didn't happen, huh.

Just a further note to how gay XWP actually was but why it matters not to take this so seriously with Xena.

Someone smart once said that the experience of watching ‘Xena: Warrior Princess’ is that they felt that all the homosexuality is authentic and all heterosexuality is performative. I mean, I don’t think they quite said it like that but… it’s accurate. The only thing is… where does that leave bisexuality? Because I would say at least Xena’s relationships with both men and women felt very much authentic to me. And that it was neither one or the other that made more sense.

I agree that all the played up homoeroticness between Xena and Gabrielle was much more authentic than the written in contrived heteroeroticness. But at the very least, I would still say Xena’s experiences with all her lovers besides Gabrielle were authentic. Were also very much an important part of her character arc. I wouldn’t have it any other way. I would not change the fact and the detail that Xena was just as much into men as she was into women. See… most people hate the episode ‘Antony And Cleopatra’ but I watched that scene where Xena was seducing Marc Antony in front of Gabrielle… and I thought it was so damn powerful and validating. So while it cannot be denied that Gabrielle had her heart and the romantic attraction was strong, it also cannot be denied that Xena had a very strong sexual attraction to Ares. So I would rather put it as Xena was bisexual but she was aromantic with men and arosexual with women. I would say that it simply is that she has a stronger romantic bond with women over men and a stronger sexual bond with men over women. If we’re explaining it from an in-show perspective anyway. Out-of-show, obviously it was because they could show sexual intimacy between men and women and not so much with women and women on TV in the 90’s/early 2000’s. But to me, Xena’s bisexuality or bisexual tendencies were unquestioned. They were valid for her character. But I think the opposite is true with Gabrielle. I 100% think the lesbianism was authentic and the straightism was performative with her character. But not with Xena’s. And it’s one of the main factors as to why I did not want the rumoured TV show reboot where they would go full out Xena-and-Gabrielle-is-canon to go ahead. I would not want to erase Xena’s bisexuality just to have something that I felt the show already gave us and gave us to 1000x the power than any TV show has given us to this day. I know it wasn’t canon textually…. But how on Earth do you see it as not canon visually?

Like I said. I wouldn’t change a thing. Not even AFIN.

I’ve only seen her in gifs and interviews but Katie LoveLiesBleeding would make an excellent Xena if they ever reboot it. Like I hope they don’t but if they do…

Had a conversation with a friend who thought it'd be neat to get a reboot of Xena. But, like, I don't think it'd work.

Xena was this weird niche low budgety thing and just wouldn't work at all. Fantasy has become more mainstream so they'd have a real budget. And meddling from marketing and sponsors and whomever else moneymen would mean that Xena would be watered down to a very basic fantasy show with fake female empowerment 101 and fetishized lesbians.

... and they'd take out Xena's battle cry cuz it would be "too silly".

... also all the right wing bros making a ruckus over Xena being canonically gay now even tho the same people have been joking about it for literal decades because it's cool that gayness is a punchline and a joke but not when it's, like, real man coughvelmacough

the only way to know someone is worthy of rebooting xena heavy is if theyre ready to deliver on concepts like throwaway lines about xena inventing the strap on and producing the sappho disco themed jukebox musical
