I’ll say it. I’ll say what no other fan wants to say because they don’t want to see her so sad.
Swift’s best albums are her depression albums.
They’re the albums where all her songs are about death and loss and grief and pain and torture and trauma and guilt and regret and shame and heartbreak because she so effortlessly and accurately captures the experience of all of that negativity through song. You would think it’s contradictory that her best stuff comes out when she’s not at her best self personally but it’s because she’s so damn expressive of her internal subconsciousness why it is.
And it is the same for any true artist unfortunately.
The depression is what brings out their best work because they always rely on their craft for catharsis.

THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT (THE ANTHOLOGY) is on repeat all day now I have a HomePod. Seamless connection between my iPhone and MacBook. Full lossless audio quality. Heaven.
I hope Swift never leaves THIS style of music.
It’s absolutely perfect for her. Her musical niche.

You see the term “soulmates” was the perfect cover for this because it’s ambiguous. Soulmates aren’t necessarily romantic or lovers. So far so good.
However… soulmates that kiss and get married.
That’s another story.
So the narrative was heavily leaning into the romantic implications over the platonic ones. The text itself might be easy enough to deny but it’s not so ambiguous and subtextual when you consider the actions. Specifically the intensity of those actions.
Because then you have to ask yourself - would you do all this for somebody that was purely just a friend?
Most people would reserve going that hard and being that ride or die in action only for the love of their life.
The platonic and ‘just friends’ narrative doesn’t work because that shit looks like Stockholm syndrome.
It only truly makes sense if you look at it romantically.
And the narrative follows suit just fine when it is.
As purely just friends - there’s some problems.
And they aren’t heathy or safe or normal.
Like if they were just friends… Just purely platonic… Then they’ve got a lot of repressed shit to work out.
I think I saw an incorrect quotes that accurately described what I mean by this once:
“She’s like a sister to me.”
“Honey, I am your sister and if you looked at me the way you look at her, I’d call the police.”
Something like that anyway.
In other words: if they really are/were/would only ever be just friends,… then they’re pretty fucked up people that make each other go through a lot for nothing.
The best way to view Xena and Gabrielle is best friends to lovers. It’s not a question of IF. Just WHEN.
Because the story of their relationship is pretty damn abusive if you only ever view it non-romantically.
I mean you can view it whatever way you want to because it’s left open for interpretation on purpose but you really do have to ask yourself why you do view it the way you do because the narrative was clear.
It wasn’t confirmed. But it was clear.
The creators made their choice too.
Their choice sided with the shippers.

I’m learning apparently there were people who watched Xena and walked away completely satisfied this was a straight experience. Did you not also watch the episode where they are crucified next to each other and confess they love one another only to have the next episode be a modern day one following their reincarnations who are now in the bodies of a man and woman and explicitly are labeled as soulmates who then kiss? Is the heterosexuality in the room with us?

Fuck ‘Down Bad’ is so Bangel from Buffy’s perspective and her depression session from ‘Becoming’ to ‘Dead Man’s Party’ up until she discovers Angel again and then when Angel leaves.
I can already see all the tragic Bangel edits made to this song. I may not be a shipper but I pay attention.

That’s what we’re saying but the narrative never seems to acknowledge it. It’s just dead, then done, move on. In reality - that wouldn’t actually happen.
Xander at least would need therapy for that trauma.
currently on season 6 of btvs, but my mom wanted to start watching it with me so I’m ALSO on season 1 again, and I just wanted to say I completely forgot Jesse existed. his character was so fucked up. you’re telling me Xander and Willow’s childhood best friend was turned into a vampire then Xander (technically) killed him in the second fucking episode!?? instant trauma, no wonder Xander’s like that

He obviously only knows vanilla sex.
No wonder the girls get bored of him.
I can see the intention behind the scene where Faith in Buffy’s body seduces and has sex with Riley. The idea is Faith has only experienced sex as something rough and dirty where at best two people are mutually using each other in pursuit of their own pleasure, and so the tender and emotionally intimate lovemaking Riley engages her in overwhelms her and shakes her to her core.
But how it actually comes off (aside from the rape factor that they were seemingly oblivious to) is that “Buffy” is trying to engage Riley in just a little light kink, just a bit of “ooo, I’m such a bad girl, what are you going to do to me?”, but not only is Riley willing to engage in that, he such a vanilla basic ass bitch he cannot he comprehend of the idea of having anything but lights off man on top missionary. Faith asks if she’s been a bad girl and he is just straight up confused; he does not understand what’s going on at all.

the idea of public restrooms as "women's spaces" continues to confound me. you know who I hope is in a public bathroom when I go in?? no one. I would prefer no one else be in the bathroom. and if someone else is in the bathroom I am going to ignore them as much as possible. I did not go into the bathroom to connect with other women. I went into the bathroom to piss and/or shit. it's a toilet's space, not a women's space. shut the fuck up and let trans people piss and shit in peace. let's all continue to avoid eye contact with each other and any and all interaction in the toilet's space.

Callisto was a hoot. We need more queer villains in art/entertainment. Especially in television format.

@gh-0-stcup Yes, it is. I’m quite surprised to be honest.
Finished Season 3 of CARMILLA. And damn… that story escalated quickly. The intensity of the plot and all the missing pieces fit together in interesting ways.
And the acting - especially in that final act. The actor who plays the Dean possessing the body of Perry and LaFontaine’s hero moment to save her. And of course … the two leads, Carmilla and Laura and their deeper than expected love story once the stakes was raised into full out apocalypse. Even Danny, now a vampire, having a spur of the moment change of her non-beating heart. Everything was just so well written for a low budget supernatural/fantasy horror web series.
It was one hell of a final season and conclusion. I can see why it got a major movie, which I’m going to have to watch again now that I know and understand all that’s going on. What the entire story is even about.
And Hollstein are absolutely adorable. Natasha and Elise really make those characters very believable.
I loved it a lot. I enjoyed watching it very much. 😊

Yes. Because my perception of “bad” is often the complete opposite to other people’s. Vice versa.
Is it really your favourite show if you’re not constantly warning your friends every second episode, “Okay, now this one’s kinda bad but—”

That was before I realized that you were talking about what happened before Giles abandoned the Scoobies.
I misunderstood. Therefore, I have no argument to make. I’ve already agreed with you. Can you stop?
The giles vs willow conflict in season 6 is so funny bc it’s an older recovered addict warning a younger person they’re about to get into a full blown addiction and the younger person is just like “fuck you old man! I can handle it! Im built different!” And then you know… they fall into a full blown addiction and tank their lives ndndmddmmmxxm
