A Hawks x Artist!Reader fic where you're out drawing random civilians and hoping for a chance to sketch some patrolling heroes too when you spot Hawks. He's taking a quick break, perched leisurely on the roof of a nearby shop, surveying the area when he sees you drawing him. He freezes, wings that were previously softly waving coming to a still, golden eyes locking firmly onto yours.

You avert your gaze so fast your neck hurts, and you unsuccessfully try to hide behind your little sketchbook, your face on fire at getting caught. When you've caught your breath and you feel brave enough to look back, Hawks is holding up two fingers. Then he strikes a dramatic hero pose and you gape, eyes wide with disbelief as you realize he'll hold the pose for two minutes, just so you can draw him. You do so with your heartbeat hammering in your ears.

the dad!billy knight thoughts are raging on strongly tonight, my friends.

just imagine how soft and low and deep his voice would get when he reads his baby girl to sleep each night… it sounds just like his morning voice, but quieter and less mumble-y. he’s hushed, but he’s not murmuring, his pronunciations of the words on the page still just as crisp as they would be if he was reading to his daughter in the daytime, but his tone is intentionally softer, quieter, in the hopes that’ll encourage his little angel to get sleepier and sleepier with every word he reads.

billy’s in a pair of plaid pajama pants that you bought him for his birthday, they’re in his favourite shade of green, and he’s not wearing a shirt; he never does at bedtime, it wouldn’t make sense to, he’d just take it off anyways before climbing into bed. he’s sitting in the rocking chair in your daughter’s room, with her snuggled up in his lap. billy has one arm wrapped around her, keeping her in his lap, and the other extended out, holding the book out in front of both of them. her soft hair is splayed out across the pale, freckled skin of his torso as she rests her head on his chest so that she can look down at the book he’s holding out in front of her, so that she can look at the pictures whilst he reads the words aloud to her. with the way he’s sitting, he can’t see how her eyelids droop sleepily, fighting against the urge to flutter closed as he gently rocks the two of them back and forth in the chair, but you can… and god, the sight of it is enough to make you melt. he’s such a good father to her, he always has been. in your eyes, he’s the best father a parent could ever hope for their child to have. he’s not perfect, no one is, but he tries his best, he’s very dedicated, and he loves her so much, and, really, that’s just about all you can ask for.

billy’s been rocking her in this chair every night before bed since she was an infant. back then, he used to sing her a lullaby and gently rock her to soeep after she’d finished a warm bottle and, of course, after she’d been properly burped as well. now, he reads her a story and gently rocks her after she’s finished a glass of warm milk and, of course, after she’s brushed her teeth as well. even at three years old, being rocked in that chair by her papa still makes it impossible for her to fight off sleep (the way she surely would if he weren’t rocking her to sleep and reading to her softly).

once she’s fallen fast asleep in her dad’s lap, and the story is over, billy closes the book and softly sets it aside before rising out of the chair with her cradled in his arms (or as cradled as she can be at nearly 93 centimeters), careful not to jostle her too much as he gets up. just as carefully and gently, he walks over towards her toddler bed (which she adorably refers to as her ‘big girl bed’), and eases her onto the bed. he tucks his baby girl in and plants a warm, loving kiss on her tiny little forehead before beckoning you over to do the same.

the two of you turn off the lights and head to your own room, where you’ll stay up and chat for a bit, maybe read books of your own, before eventually succumbing to your mutual sleepiness, kissing each other goodnight, snuggling up, and going to sleep much like your sweet angel already has.

Ok I have officially had enough of you bitches. Vi gets a weird amount of hate in this fandom for no fucking reason and her being one of the two main lesbian characters in the cast makes that more gross like I've read the same fucking rotten ass cold take about how she's a horrible sister and that her freaking out that HER 8 y/o SISTER SHE TOLD TO STAY AT HOME KILLED HER FAMILY AT THE AGE OF 15 is some type of absolute manipulative, violent bullshit only to go around romanticizing Jinx and Silco. Like yes they are a cute lil play on the found father/daughter trope, but like lets go back to using all of our brains people like he literally drew her deeper and deeper into her delusions and manipulated her into distrust and isolation. Like I'm afraid for some of you, the inability to see red flags here is very concerning.
