What makes Persuasion so special imo is that it is the only Jane Austen book - apart from Lady Susan - where the female hero knows that the male hero is in love with her:
And also knows that the male hero is jealous of another male. Yeah even being happy about that jealousy and „supporting“ it.
The last 1/4 of the book is basically just Anne, kicking down metaphorical doors, screaming: „Go man! marry me!“
No other female hero is pushing the male hero - so much - towards a marriage proposal (in a harmless way *looks at Lady Susan*)
And I think it is also fascinating how no adaptation so far has capture this spirit. Yeah we have the iconic: „He ought not, he does not.“ - speech, and every viewer knows what this means. But no one ever shows Anne going: „oh shit! He loves me!“

No but really I love that after Darcy’s second proposal and Lizzy’s (awkward) (vulnerable) (affirmative) response Darcy DOES say something, he does elaborate and you know it’s the most romantic thing you’ve ever heard in your life but Austen doesn’t tell us what. Austen drops the veil for a second and only tells us what his face looks like and that Lizzy is unable to meet his gaze. And tbh that makes it perfect.

wentworth thinking that anne ending their engagement is a quiet treason
self explanatory really, but their quick engagement and fall in love and all that…
i mean they’re literally neighbors when wentworth comes to live at kellynch hall. but also them living in perpetual estrangement after ‘touching each other for a fortnight’
this is particularly about anne bc her life lost its colors after their love affair
and this applies to wentworth whe he tried to move on but we all know how that ended…
and lest we forget this… the hopelessness they feel thinking they lost their chance.
don’t mind me i’m just picturing fortnight from anne and wentworth’s pov

Mr Darcy is so fucking unsubtle all of the time I truly don't understand how Elizabeth doesn't get it. Someone mentions Elizabeth likes books? Darcy immediately goes into a rant about how he wants a wife that reads. Elizabeth says she wants to live close to her family? Darcy is bending over backwards to figure out how far is too far, would she mind it if she could easily travel back at forth, would she miss the people or the places. My girl he's so down bad, he's just autistic.
