PHOTOPEA TUTORIAL / PHOTO FILTER FOR SKIN TONES:

a tutorial on HOW TO BRING OUT SKIN TONES if an image is 'too gray' (faded) or has too much of one (likely over saturated) color! this technique can easily be applied to icons that already have a border ! just put your focus on the base image / icon ! this works on relatively anything, including poc and non-poc. WHAT YOU WILL NEED: photopea...and your desired your base image(for example, i'll be showcasing inconsistent or otherwise dark/faded scene lighting, like twilight and saw). DISCLAIMER: not all lighting/images are the same, nor are psd colorings. while some colorings may be designed to bring out reds/yellows(which is the filters we'll be using in this specific example), others may mute them and you may have to improvise with whatever color the psd you're using is designed to focus on. this is just a general idea, you will have to explore as you see fit. it's all going to depend on your personal taste !

by the end of this, you should be able to manage results like this !

cool, huh?....anyway, on with the mechanics !

EXAMPLES:

[ BEFORE PSD ] [ SYNOPSIS ]

#01 / LEFT IMAGE ABOVE: too much green, becomes muted with psd and doesn't show variety. #02 / RIGHT IMAGE ABOVE: the colors are very faded in this scene, and the pink focused psd in question made the image seem gray. we will start with EXAMPLE #01. i will be using the same PSD on both, a custom psd i made and focuses on reds/pinks.

as you'll see above the PSD has now been applied...but now it's kinda boring :// (there's nothing wrong if you don't mind how it is above, everyone's got their aesthetic choice—HOWEVER, we're aiming to add skin tone...)

once you have your image open, you'll want to go to image>adjustments>photo filter; i went ahead highlighted it in yellow for easy finding !

since this psd DOESN'T mute reds/yellows, (and those are usually the base of most/general skin tone combinations) i applied both a yellow and red filter. now, these colors i'll be using in this example, because they're in my default colors on the photo filter option—you can totally choose lighter or darker variants of these colors, or like i said, a different color altogether based on how the PSD you're using works. the toggle setting doesn't have to be exact to this example either—this is just what worked best on this image combined with the chosen PSD ! // RIGHT IMAGE IS THE FINAL RESULT AFTER APPLYING THE RED FILTER AFTER THE YELLOW.

this scene in particular is very faded, and the red feels a little blotchy/over saturated here...so i'll show you an EXTRA STEP you can use ! in saying this, you don't have to do exactly this; you can even choose to go ahead with selective color to fix your image, without doing the filters, if you find that suitable. but i'll be showing you the magic of selective color to balance out the red toned overlay.

same concept as before, just a different selection: image>adjustments>selective color. think of selective colors as "balancing" the colors. it does have a toggle selection for each color, which is super helpful, including diminishing or adding white highlights. given the PSD colors, naturally, i'll be focusing on yellow and red.

it's now got a general skin tone and red is not as blotchy !

You mention often that you are a "Former LEO", why did you quit?

There is a very long answer to your short question, but I will try to give you the short'ish answer. The "Us vs Them" mentality had started to set in after about 10 years on the road. I had stopped gearing up wondering who I was going to help in the next shift and started gearing up for a fight every shift. Day by day, I stated seeing those I was entrusted to help as a threat, all the time. Mainly becasue my day was 75% dealing with the bottom of the gene pool barrel, 10% feeling like I was really making a positive difference in my community, and 15% beating my head against paperwork. (The paperwork was still ALL by hand, often in triplicate with carbon paper.) At 15 years in I was able to change jobs and always thought I go back to being an LEO full time. But, deep down inside I knew I was never going back. I suffered a TBI in 2006 and that was the final nail in any thoughts of going back on the road, that choice was now out of my hands. I retired with 19 years 7 months as an LEO (20 years 4 days in total.) and I don't miss a single day on the road. You can only see so many murders, rapes, bank robbery's, auto fatalities, suicides, child abuse cases, spousal abuse cases, and a million other shitty things you can't scrub off your brain. And that is just the Garrison mission, we still have an entirely different combat mission. Clerical note: I did all my time as an LEO as a Military Policemen (Army). You will often, and I still do, hear civilian LEO's say "MP's are not real LEO's.", to those folks I say do the job. My arrest (Apprehension) authority was federally derived, just like any other federal LEO. There is literally no crime that happens in the country that will not happen on a military installation. We deal with not only our military communities that are often larger than the communities right outside the gate but all the civilians that enter our gates and the shit they drag in with them. I worked as a regular patrolmen, Shift Super, DST (Drug Suppression Team) member, SRT (Special Reaction Team) member, and the PSD (Personal Security Detachment) teams when they Army still had a school for it, now it seems to be mostly unit derived. As I stated above, murders, rapes, bank robbery's, auto fatalities, suicides, child abuse cases, spousal abuse cases all they way down to the shoplifting of candy. Let's not forget all the weekly predictable cases like bar fights starting on Thursdays and ending on Sundays, The domestics starting on Friday night and going into Monday morning. The bullshit Monday morning walk-in cases for minor-thefts or property damage that happened on the weekend but soldiers use them as an excuse to get out of PT. I could go on and on. Ok, Anon, this is the short answer to your question, the long full answer would fill volumes. I hate this movie quote but, it's not entirely wrong. The bulk of the people we deal with have been trained to be both technically and tactically proficient, trained in the use of multiple types of firearms and unarmed self-defenses, and in many cases trained to a degree that they possess skills that most LEO's outside the gate do not have interactions with. (God, the SF and Ranger and one loan Delta dude stories I could tell.) Also, a tip of the hat to all those MPI (Military Police Investigations) and CID (Criminal Investigations Division) folks, fuck, I'm glad I did not have to do your paperwork.

the man she was dealing with was an armed ex-soldier and in a fit of rage, had lashed out when mi-young chose to end ties with him. she brought her brother for assistance and as much as he wanted to be a hero, he didn’t have the upper hand due to being unarmed.

without their knowledge, they already had their sire’s blood in their system, as such the two had transitioned at the same time. there was no choice for them, but to adapt and for the past couple of decades, the three of them had lived in every era since 1953.

they had built a business called kim logistics, an international transport company through land, air and sea. mi-young was cfo before stepping down recently and becoming a part of the board of directors, while min-ho had done the same with his ceo position three years ago as he moved to Astoria to be a key investor in the helios project.

this project brought mi-young to nova pangaea after she received word that min-ho died during a breakthrough in one of their research development. instead of pursuing kim logistics in astoria, she decided to carry out a new business venture which is her floral shop you’ll be vine, while investing in the helios project on behalf of her brother’s legacy.

since she is a vampire, she protects herself with equipment that prevents any contact whether it be skin to skin or scent with the vervain ( ooc: she probably wears a hazmat suit or a gas mask tbh )

𝐕𝐀𝐌𝐏𝐈𝐑𝐈𝐒𝐌: mi-young suppressed her ptsd and overall mental health after many years of living. she had gone through the many stages of grief for herself and with the support of her brother and her sire, she was able to accept who she was many years later after her transition.

The Professional Scrum Developer Cert

"The Agile Certifications that exist are a complete joke and an utter absurdity." - Robert Martin, Clean Agile.

TL;DR: My company asked me to get this, so I did. Even though I only did a couple of hours of study. All the books I had been reading last year prepped me for it... I'm also good at taking tests.

You should ask yourself: Why the hell do I need this?

If the answer is that it will help you land a job, get a promotion, satisfy management, or assist you with a goal to pursue your learning. No harm, it's $200! However, if you want this to show off to people that you are the most Scrum dev, that is just so Scrum, just don't...please.

With that out of the way...

The first thing they asked me to do when I joined my new team was to get the PSD cert. I had other PM style certs under my belt, so this would be, as the very cool people say, 'no problem.' I figured this would be a fun way to make sure I had the terms and ceremonies down for Scrum. (And I was right, because I think tests are fun.)

I started with this assessment test to understand where I was so I could plan where I should go. I'm a massive fan of taking assessments before you study. You see, the idea of pre-testing is it gives you the shape of the test to come. This method helps my mind map out things that will be valuable to know for the test. I scored 60% on my first try, which was not great but gave me information on how to start my next steps.

After I studied my answers and noted right and wrong answers. From the reading I had been doing, I realized most of the terms in the test had been introduced over the last year.

So, after reviewing some keywords in those books, I made a:

Let's talk about my study guide system:

First, I take my wrong answer pass and use that to build a foundation of what I don't know and mesh this with whatever core competencies list I can find for the certification. I then research videos and articles that can help me fill in my knowledge.

Then, I review this content, taking notes on any terms I don't understand. I then cross-referenced all of these with terms I noted down from the assessment test and refined my study guide. I do this process till every term, and the wrong answer makes complete sense.

Then I take the assessment again, but now it's speed mode. I try to spend less than 10 seconds on each question (sometimes more if there is a long setup) or less on each question; if I go too long, I skip (or guess and note it down real quick). The thinking is, in a multichoice test, if I don't know the correct answer immediately, I'm gaming the multiple-choice, not actually "knowing." I refined this technique on a couple of Comptia Certs, which also helped me through a good part of my schooling.

After 2-3 speed runs. I complete all the wrong answers and any notes on terms or concepts I stall or take longer on. Then I take this and make a:

While speed running, I repeat this process until I pass 10% higher on pre-tests and assessments than I need for the certification test. Because certifications often have question bundles, I can buy them. I will often buy one or two if they're cheap. However, for the PSD, the free one is WAY better than the paid one I bought from Udemy. If I were to do it again, I wouldn't have grabbed the paid one.

After this is done, I look at scheduling an assessment. But as it turns out, that's not something you need to worry about with the PSD; you can take it any time after you pay, so keep that in mind.

Before the assessment, I reviewed the core test competency materials and took a nice mind break.

When I feel calm and centered, I take the test. This method has yet to fail me. Is it the fastest way to cram new info in your head? Probably not, but I do learn whatever the cert is trying to teach me, and as a bonus, I feel very little pressure in the tests, often finishing quickly with enough time to review questions I wasn't so sure about.

How did this serve me for the PSD? It was 95%, not 100%, as the fabulous folks get, but perfection is the enemy of done in my book. And it is very done!

So now that you know how I took it. The real question is, was it useful?

okay i’m gonna do a tutorial real time for a picspam type aesthetic that will look like this ⇣ a photo i will put here once i make it.

step one. open ps : )

okay so dimensions r a thing tumblr compresses photos like hella so i do all my still img aesthetics 900x900 is you’re trying to do this for say insta i would actually recommend jumping up to 1080x1080. pixels, obviously. idk if i have to clarify that.

so click ctrl+n or create new i’ll be doing 900x900

these r the rest of my settings i personally do not think they matter my resolution stays at 72 the only thing i’ve detected this affecting is font size. (side note notice how this pic looks all fuzzy? that’s bc it’s a ss with a boatload of pixels. and if there’s one thing tumblr hates. it’s pixels. and then it’s users. but who’s counting? tumblr is. i recommend keeping ur still images 900x900♥)

step two is collecting ur images i personally use pinterest for these bc quite frankly it’s really nice & easy to find these types of photos esp if you’re looking for a canon character bc if you type in [character name] aesthetic you’ll get stuff if you don’t quite frankly even just type in aesthetic you can scroll until you find an image you like click on that and go through like images underneath it and keep burning thru. like u probably know how to work pinterest. but i am being thorough and covering my bases. searching [color] aesthetic is also nice or even searching a character that isn’t the character you’re doing this for but who’s kind of similar that also works. i recommend esp for charmed bc their pinterest gets bogged down with screencaps and then like. charms like jewelry searching “charmed aesthetic” or “phoebe halliwell aesthetic” really just doesn’t cut it so what i’d recommend is instead of going through pins, go through boards.

bc like. big difference. other pro tips if you see a board you like, go to the person’s profile and check out their other boards bc odds are you’ll find more you like. another protip if you’re specifically doing ocs typing in oc aesthetic will get you a lot even going to the boards on that as well. yields.

so. you’ve gathered ur images. u need five. open em. i’m making an aesthetic 4 myself which you’ve probably already guessed from the fact i’m putting the finished piece at the top, but it’s not ready yet so it’s still a surprise for me.

cropping. if ur doing a 900x900, use these setting exactly. 1080x1080 use 1080/2 x 1080/3. i’m not doing the math 4 u ♥

most important part? Delete Cropped Pixels. otherwise ur not really doing anything. crop all five images.

but them in ur document. document? psd? ur thing ♥ place them places. u do not have to commit now. leave one middle one blank. it does not matter which one. i personally like to alternate my text pieces if i’m doing a long post like what i did on my ncwotng set. some people keep them all on the same side. this lowkey bugs me i feel like it throws off the Balance but i imagine some people like The Consistency. i don’t. but w/e. it’s up to u as this is gonna be ur set. also like. as you’ve cropped these to x/2,x/3 settings they should fit nice like puzzle pieces : )

the next step i personally like doing is creating by text box with The Color™ do this bc simply duplicating one of ur images, shoving it in the empty slot, and converting into a sharp object. edit contents.

now. obvi i selected these images w a color scheme in mid. i recommend u do the same. even if it’s just vague. they don’t all have 2 fit. this is my example of my sheridan piece b4 or after. tweaking is possible. layers w masks r ur friend. i can talk about them more if need be.

But. back 2 the smart object. brush tool. paint it.

the text i used was times new roman all caps 40pt font 0 spacing for the title and times new roman 14pt font 0 spacing italics for the subheading. here’s my dency b4 and after for comparison

next step is after you have your text in alright, shove everything into groups. mode on “normal”

then you can start editing. the groups let you edit things like lighting and color without touching any of the layers below it 👍

i’m not gonna do a Major coloring tutorial, for lighting i’ll usually tinker with exposure, levels, sometimes brightness/contrast. for colors, color balance + hue/saturation. i rarely touch anything else.

i’ll bring u along 4 the coloring of this one bc i’m gonna add a layer mask.

so the first thing i’m going to do bc the paper itself is already close to the vibe is i’m going to color it normal and just ignore the background

something like that. then i’m going to add a layer mask (square button w the plus sign)

and then i’m going to eye dropper a color off from somewhere else

now i was talking about the “normal” blend mode stops ur color settings from bleeding over onto other images? does not apply to painting on layers but you’re already masking this bad boy, so it doesn’t matter. just don’t say i didn’t warn u

i’d recommend using a really ridiculous blend mode to clean up ur thing at first, i’m using darken which isn’t that wild but like whatevs.

EDIT: FIXED. I made 100 of these and posted the wrong one twice. Hey guys! I saw @secondlina's Twitter post and it was so inspiring. I think this is a great excuse for potter fans to experiment with movement--- sp. when it's Harry Potter's anniversary! I'll do my best to post all of them this month on my side, but I'll say it's truly an experience even if you're one of those people who don't really have the time for anything should still try it as a gesture study with ink (or watercolours, or PSD, it' your choice). 10-15 mins of work and that'd be more than enough to express the flow of the wizard-conductor. The steps: Search for a conductor pose/movement which inspires you for you to picture a spell surrounding the character of the day. If the pose can relate to the personality of the character, even better! Kit’s OC Time {Part 2}

🌼So I got this wonderful ask from @chocolatetwix and I got super excited. There is a lot here so I just decided to make a huge post about it. That and I can save it and work on it too so that’s a bonus. You can’t really do that with asks. This will be in a couple different parts so that it’s not too overwhelming!

Costume/ CC: Back in my DA days I used to draw a lot of animals and I had a fursona as well. Now I am not sure if I am going to keep her or not but I do actually still like her design. I might just tweak it a tad.

Akuma: Another fluffy boy but I have this OC named Akuma, original... I know. He will most likely make an appearance in my Hell world once I re work him a bit. Basically he was a demon that caused a lot of Chaos and havoc but messed with the wrong village. Mid transformation he got a blessed sword rammed through his chest keeping him that way until the sword is released. It also perpetually bleeds, never heals, and drains his power. Poor demon baby boy. Also I realize that he is old... but like... I still love his design if that is even possible. He used to be red in color which I will post and then I redrew him a few years ago to see how he would look more current. Now he is teal ish.

Nuke also did this incredible one of Akuma.

Because of my major I sometimes randomly come up with cute RPG character designs and I really wanted to do one of little monster animals. I created this little guy during one of my classes.

Spip: He is a little vampire ghost bunny. The cross shaped vile around his neck is filled with his HP restore (Blood) If you have a lot the vial will be full but if you don’t have enough it will deplete over time. Poor little Spip just wants to be friends with people but because of what he is they run away. He is kind of my homage to Bunicula if anyone remembers that book. I have ideas for his little buddies too like a Frankenstein cat and so forth. Just a cute little idea.

Lastly we have the Infernum (name will probably change I am kind of thinking about calling it Twisted Otherworlds or just Otherworlds) cast which is even larger than the Hell side and I don’t even want to think about that right now X’D It is a little overwhelming. What I do have however are some of the designs I made for them, costume wise. This was back during my fashion degree projects. Think realms with twisted fairytale characters that happen to used to be real people from different periods in time. This is the point I really started to dig into the horror genre and it kind of shows though looking back I think I always kind of have been...

The story is basically a fairytale romp and during the day light hours it’s perfectly fine all zanny and fun but at night is a whole other story. You see the souls that live in these Realms used to be living breathing people. The only thing is that if you end up here though you lose all memory of that life. The Madness which is like a magical curse infects these souls and turns them into their own personal fears or horrors. It’s all back story based and intense so I won’t go into it. There are different monsters and characters and even though it’s an older idea I do think it still has a lot of potential. The realms of the Muses so to speak. Their day and night are switched as well so no matter where you are in the world you dream in the daylight and it’s night there soooo your usually going to get a pretty lucid horrifying nightmare but if you sleep during the night time you will have good dreams. Just don’t fall asleep during the day light hours X’D

Anywhoo! Here are some of my favorites and again these are really old so their designs will be tweaked for the long run. I also apologize for the quality the actual PSD files are not on my laptop so I have to settle with the project photos I took a long time ago. In order you have the Rae the Black Rabbit, Lucian the Hatter, Ace the Cheshire Cat, Crow (probably change the spelling) the Scarecrow, The Woodsman, and one of Pan’s Lost Boys. I also included the top hats I made for them because I still think they are pretty neat!

There are also some REALLY old designs for the Twisted Otherworld characters. They had more of an anime flair to them. That said there are a couple characters that I want to share since they are actually important despite the artwork being older than Methuselah.

Maximillian March/ Mad March: Crazy March Hare? I think so. He is a puppet master of sorts in the story and I have to redraw him but he has these deep swirly eyes and sharp teeth. (huh... looks like that design choice happened a long time ago... WELP)

Tweedles: One of my friends was able to pick this out immediately but yea... these are the Tweedles. Their nightmarish 1910′s gas mask Orwellian horror cyborg versions anyway. I have a full image of Dee somewhere that I need to find... (edit) AH there he is... btw I was like 15 when I did this design so I gotta question what the heck was going through my brain.. unless it was that Doctor Who episode with the children that just freaked me out... yeah.. that was probably it. Are those real organs and muscles you ask... yes... yes they are.

I actually managed to finish this before summer was over!

Just a simple, sporty burkini for anyone who might be feeling underserviced by the Island Living CAS catalogue, seeing as the new swimwear was mostly skimpy bikinis.

(Not that there’s anything wrong with skimpy bikinis. Just that they’re not exactly the most versatile or practical option out there for swimwear.)

14 swatches, with correct color tags and custom individual thumbnails.

If you prefer to have it disabled, it’s very easy to open up the package in Sims 4 Studio and fix that by ticking a couple boxes.

It’s tagged for the “Middle-Eastern” and “South Asian” archetypes, so that might affect spawning behavior.

Recolors are absolutely encouraged, and I’ll eventually get around to releasing a PSD, but if you want to just go ahead, I can provide a very basic work file with the “channels” masked out at the very least.

My TOU is pretty open... just don’t be a dick, don’t steal credit, and don’t make money off my content when I’m providing it for free.
