1. say it's here where our pieces fall in place by Lirelyn - ~69,000 words, explicit - Modern AU where Lan Zhan meets Wei Wuxian after he adopts a small A-Yuan, because Wei Wuxian also has a past with him. Lots of adorable family feelings and emotional hurt/comfort.

As often happened, Wei Ying’s voice preceded his entrance, calling to his co-worker through the open door, “Frankie, they forgot to order spoons again, can you hold down the fort a little longer while I —”

Lan Wangji was already looking to his entrance, head turning as if magnetized toward the voice, so he saw the moment when Wei Ying’s eyes landed on A-Yuan and the smile fell from his face. He looked stricken, and Lan Wangji immediately looked to his son in alarm. A-Yuan seemed fine. His small eyebrows were pulled together in a small frown as he looked back at Wei Ying, but that wasn’t surprising, given the expression on Wei Ying’s face. Lan Wangji had seen that face beaming, laughing, whining, wheedling, and occasionally angry, but never like this. He looked blank and hollow and it stirred something fierce in Lan Wangji: he wanted to rise up and obliterate whatever was making him look like that. Then his eyes lifted to Lan Wangji and there was a flash of something almost like betrayal, before he pressed his lips together and turned his back.

“I’m going to run out to the store and get spoons,” he said in a flat voice to his co-worker, and left without looking their way again.

2. the breaking of your soul (upon my lips) by sunsandships - ~41,000 words, mature - This is an AU of the novel where Wei Wuxian puts two and two together when Lan Zhan sneaks that kiss from him. It changes a lot of things.

Against his own will, Wei Wuxian found himself glancing at Lan Wangji’s hands. They were… certainly large enough that one of them could wrap around both of his wrists. And Lan Wangji was certainly strong enough, tall enough, broad-shouldered enough to bodily pin him against the trunk of a tree with no chance of him breaking free. Lan Wangji was the first person he’d come across in his slow comb through the vicinity of where he’d been so headily kissed.

Wei Wuxian drew a sharp breath. There was a connection to be made here. He didn’t think he was crazy enough to make it. Perhaps he truly was going slightly insane with demonic cultivation if he could believe Lan Wangji, the paragon of virtue and respectability, who lived unflinchingly under Gusu Lan’s three thousand edicts, who had at best only tolerated his presence as children, would sneak up to him while he was blindfolded, pin him against a tree, and steal a kiss from him in broad daylight.

3. and his wanting grows teeth by yukla - ~25,000 words, teen - This is a very interesting AU where Lan Zhan is a traveling cultivator and runs into Wei Wuxian and the Jiangs looking for shelter during a snowstorm. No spoilers, but this fic goes to a pretty dark place that genuinely shocked me, but I enjoyed. (Still ends well though.)

Without further ado, they are hustled past the entrance and into a smaller greeting area. Huang-bobo approaches the brazier in the center with his hands outstretched, warming his fingers in the heat, but Lan Wangji hangs back. As he carefully brushes the snow free from his shoulders, he feels the burn of a curious gaze trailing up and down his body, lingering at the guqin still strapped to his back; when the sensation pauses at his face and stays there, he lifts his head.

The boy with the ribbon lights up at the eye contact, flashes another dazzling smile, and gives a little wave.

“You must be new here,” he whispers, something like laughter threaded into his voice, eyes scrunching into winking half-moons. “All dressed up in white like that! You might lose yourself in the snowstorm!”

Something stirs to life in Lan Wangji’s chest. It’s—uncomfortable, he decides, and so he steps away. Teasing should not be encouraged with a response.

4. Ghosts Shouldn't by ShanaStoryteller - ~15,000 words, not rated - After Wei Ying's death, his spirit seems to linger. The story is told from Lan Xichen's point of view. I love an outsider point of view. I also love the way the author fleshes out his character as well.

Lan Xichen means to force his way inside, angry ghost of the Yiling Patriarch or no, but then his brother lets out slow breath, settling, the pain easing from his face as he falls back into a more peaceful sleep.

His hair is moving on its own, so subtly Lan Xichen might not have noticed it if he hadn’t been looking at Wangji so intently. It’s like someone’s running their hand through his hair.

The window frosts over suddenly, thick enough that he can’t see through it. Anxiety spikes through him so quickly he’s nauseous with it, but then the frost melts away and the opening notes of Healing start up again.

He can’t tell if it’s a warning or not. Maybe it’s just an acknowledgement. Wei Wuxian knows he’s there.

5. **leading tone by silencemostofall - ~32,000 words, general - This is a modern AU set in a world where people who love you leave a mark of color on you the first time you touch. Wei Wuxian has no color on him. So much emotional hurt/comfort. So much of Wei Wuxian's terrible self-esteem.

He can cover up his palms with his gloves, so that the blankness does not draw stares. But he has no marks on his fingertips, which he cannot easily hide, and none visible on his face or neck, the blankness of which is even more difficult to hide. People look at him and, with a single glance, understand the single most devastating truth that he knows about himself.

They assume that he does not have very many marks. He may be an eccentric, dramatic person, but the likelihood that an individual has all of their marks on, say, their feet or their torso or other places that are not immediately obvious-- that probability goes down as your number of marks increases. He can laugh as much as he wants about how he loves touching people for the first time with odd places, like the knee or the elbow, but it doesn't quite mask the feeling of other that he knows he exudes.

They assume that he does not have a lot of marks. This, while a heavy weight, is not unbearably so. It is okay that they think he is not much loved. It chafes a bit, and feels occasionally like something he has to furiously push down within himself, but it is not unbearable. What would be unbearable is if they knew the truth: that he does not just have very few marks, but none. That he is simply an individual who is not loved at all.

6. **pastel by antebunny - ~7,000 words, gen - This is a remix work of the above fic. It's from Lan Zhan's point of view and just different enough to be interesting. Still lots of emotional hurt/comfort. I love this concept a whole lot, and both of these fics are great.

It’s a simmering day in May, and Wei Ying is wearing long sleeves, long pants, and gloves.

His choice of dress isn’t unusual for many reasons. For one, there’s plenty of people who don’t like strangers seeing their soulmarks. There’s plenty of people who wish to keep them private by covering them up. For another, Wei Ying spends most of his day in various chilly computer science department rooms, He could just be wearing long sleeves for that.

7. one good thing by Yuu_chi - ~27,000 words, teen - Wei Wuxian has died (or did he??) and is haunting his old home. Lan Zhan moves in. This story has a happy ending! And so much yearning!

To the flowers struggling to grow on the other side of the glass, he says, “We’re getting a new roommate. Well, I’m getting a new roommate - you’re getting somebody who might actually be able to water you for a change.” The flowers outside sway a little in the breeze, and Wei Wuxian nods contemplatively. “He can’t be any worse than the last guy who lived here. Remember when I spooked him while he was cooking and he nearly burnt the house down? Of course you don’t. You’re fucking foliage, your memory is worse than mine. I remember though, so it’s cool.”

There’s the sound of shuffling behind him and Wei Wuxian looks up to see the stranger has entered the kitchen, setting the last of the boxes down on the table. Disgustingly neat handwriting declares the box kitchen - homeware. The stranger carefully brushes his hair back from his face and, without so much as a second of hesitation, cracks open the box and begins unpacking.

“Wow, you really don’t waste any time, do you?” Wei Wuxian marvels. “You literally just got here - who cares about unpacking? Sit down for a moment, breathe, have something to eat. It’s not going anywhere.”

8. with you, I am home by tellthemstories - ~47,000 words, mature - Modern AU where Wei Wuxian is being forced to return home to entertain marriage proposals. So naturally instead he "convinces" Lan Zhan to pretend to date him. I love a good fake dating fic, and this one hits all the right beats.

Lan Zhan does that almost-smile thing that Wei Wuxian takes to mean he’s happy, or at the very least not-mad. “You don’t have any money.”

“Not true. I have the money from our last job, when we settled the vengeful spirit for the flower shop girl.” (He doesn’t. They have Lan Zhan’s money. Wei Wuxian spent his on a pack of loquats and three bottles of Emperor’s Smile wine.)

“Fine,” Wei Wuxian says. “Do it for me.”

Thinking back on it two weeks later, standing alone in the middle of Jin Ling’s graduation banquet and watching Lan Zhan walk away from him, Wei Wuxian realises that this, this was the moment when he should have known. He should have realised in the way Lan Zhan doesn’t hesitate or negotiate and just says with that half-fond, half-exasperated tone he gets sometimes, “Fine.”

9. and in the spring i shed my skin by wvlfqveen - ~11,000 words, teen - Modern AU where Wei Ying can't find Lan Zhan, but hey, there happens to be a rabbit here instead. Features a very slow Wei Ying, emotional hurt/comfort and accidental love confessions.

Immediately, his heart settles and he grins down at his new friend. “Oh, hello there,” he coos, reaching out to pet the fluffy ears. The bunny is very, very still under his hand.

“Did Lan Zhan bring you today?,” he continues cooing. “I’m sorry I missed that, but your Dad didn’t tell me he was bringing you.”

Lan Zhan rarely brings his rabbits to work since they are as tolerant of crowds and unnecessary noise as he is. They were probably relevant to today’s lesson but…

Wei Ying frowns. “Why would he leave you alone? And where is your cage?”

10. how, or when, or from where by sarahyyy - ~10,000 words, gen - Wei Ying wakes up in the hospital with amnesia and can't remember the last few years of his life, including his best friend and the guy he's in love with.

Jiang Cheng rolls his eyes so hard Wei Wuxian is surprised his eyeballs don’t just fall out of his eye sockets. “That’s the worst part. He did. Whatever mating ritual you both have going on is so fucking weird, Wei Wuxian.” He snorts. “If you’d stayed asleep for any longer, I’d have lost my shit and thrown my myself out a window just so I wouldn’t have to talk to Lan Wangji again.”

Wei Wuxian blinks at him. “Is this a good time to ask who Lan Wangji is?”

Jiang Cheng glares at him. “Your Lan Zhan,” he says, annoyed. Wei Wuxian must look as confused as he feels, because Jiang Cheng’s annoyance bleeds out into concern. “Your Lan er-gege? Your soulmate, Lan Wangji?”

Wei Wuxian shakes his head. “No bells are ringing.”

11. ** a shared plate by yukla - ~26,000 words, teen - This is an absolutely gorgeous fic about Wei Wuxian traveling the world post-canon to rediscover himself and restore his faith in humanity and eventually find his way back to Lan Zhan. The whole thing is great, but the last two chapters are just *chef's kiss*

Lan Zhan,

Just as the mountains stand unchanging and the green rivers flow ceaselessly, we will meet again — and between then and now, you cannot hope to avoid my letters, either! Haha! Lan Zhan, I’ve seen so many things and met so many people, and it’s only been a month!

I miss you already

It’s so hot that I find myself missing the wind in Gusu’s mountains. Your poor Wei Ying is I’m melting away, Lan Zhan...

I’m realizing now, sixteen years is a long time to be away — the world is vast, and quite a bit different than I remembered. And in sixteen years, a child can also grow up into a man! It’s your job to catch me up on A-Yuan’s fun childhood stories! I do remember hearing something about a pile of rabbits...

12. with your arms outstretched to me by annemari - ~14,000 words, teen - Lan Zhan finally gets up the nerve to ask Wei Ying on a date, but things don't go as expected. Features emotional hurt/comfort (are we sensing a theme with these recs??) and just regular hurt/comfort.

"Oh, man, I was hoping you had some water with you," Wei Ying says. "I totally forgot to bring any for myself. Stupid of me."

"There is enough for both of us," Lan Wangji says. He has another bigger bottle in the car, as well.

Wei Ying hums but he only takes a few sips. He presses it back into Lan Wangji's hand. "I don't need any more."

Lan Wangji is considering arguing, but then Wei Ying shifts a bit, moving his ankle, and gasps very, very quietly.

13. ** A Lot of Edges Called Perhaps by hansbekhart - ~22,000 words, explicit - Wei Wuxian has finished traveling and returned to the Cloud Recesses and Lan Zhan. But their lives never do run smoothly.

“Lan Jingyi,” Wei Wuxian says, recognizing him after a moment. His heart slams against his rib cage. “Where is Lan Zhan? What’s happened?”

Lan Jingyi flaps a hand at him, gulping air. Wei Wuxian hands him the water, and leans back against Little Apple’s side as he waits impatiently for the boy to get his breath back.

“I’m so glad I found you,” Jingyi gasps, just as Wei Wuxian is about to throttle a proper answer out of him. “Hanguang Jun was in such a state when he woke up, we didn’t know if you’d come and gone already.”

“Where is he, Jingyi,” Wei Wuxian says, as evenly as he can. “What happened?”

14. So Why Not Crack Your Skull When the Mind Swells by greenteafiend - ~14,000 words, explicit - Wei Wuxian is cursed to feel extraordinary pain unless he's touching Lan Zhan. Yet more of Wei Wuxian's self-esteem issues and Lan Zhan's steadfast devotion.

“Are you hurt, Wei Ying?” Lan Wangji asks, pressing his hand to Wei Ying’s forehead to feel his temperature. There is no fever, but that doesn’t do much to mitigate Lan Wangji’s worries.

“No—I’m not hurt,” says Wei Ying, sagging forward to lean his weight into Lan Wangji’s hand like he can’t help himself.

It’s so strange—Lan Wangji can feel what Wei Ying is feeling. Although the relief is still very profound, wisps of other things are making themselves known; happiness; wistfulness; guilt. It’s all so fleeting that Lan Wangji can’t even begin to deduce what has provoked those feelings, but he wishes he knew their source.

15. puzzle pieces by Anonymous - ~6,000 words, teen - Modern AU where Wei Ying and Lan Zhan are roommates, and Wei Ying has started borrowing Lan Zhan's clothes.

“Hm? Oh.” With sleepy eyes that does— things to Lan Zhan’s heart, he blinks and tugs at the lower hem of the shirt, which is riding just above the curve of his thighs. Does Lan Zhan’s mouth water? Maybe. Yes. Absolutely. “Ah, yeah, sorry. Laundry day caught up to me before I could catch up with it. I saw this shirt left in the washer a few days ago, and—“ He blinks up at Lan Zhan through dark eyelashes that Lan Zhan wants to kiss, maybe, and gives him an uncharacteristically hesitant smile. “Do you mind?”

I mind the fact that we are not married, Lan Zhan thinks. But he can’t say that, and his tongue doesn’t know how to say anything else. So he stays silent.

“Oh,” Wei Ying says after a moment. “If you—oh, damn, I should’ve known, this is like real silk, must’ve been super expensive. Fuck. Okay, here, uh, I’ll take it off—“

16. ** Nothing But Trouble by brooklinegirl - ~60,000 words, explicit - Modern AU where Wei Ying is trying to be a good brother and get Jiang Cheng laid. Somehow this plan involves pretending to date Lan Zhan.

"I won't!" Wei Ying insists. "I'll ask out someone...high stakes. I'll find someone. I'll...okay, how's this? I swear that I'll ask someone out and keep at it for at least two dates."

"No."

"Three dates."

"Nope."

"Okay, okay, five. That's fair! That's more than fair! One person, five dates." He points at Jiang Cheng. "You have to do it, too. That's how a pact works."

Jiang Cheng stares at him. "Five dates," he says flatly. "Five. And yours can't be Nie Huaisang."

17. i'm the one for your fire by occultings (microcomets) - ~43,000 words, explicit - This is a Modern AU and a Cherry Magic AU! (Side note: GO WATCH CHERRY MAGIC IF YOU HAVEN'T.) But in short, Wei Ying turns 30 without losing his virginity and gets the power to hear people's thoughts when he touches them. He gets more than he bargained for with Lan Zhan. The author does a good job of translating the story to these characters. Wei Ying is not forced to be like Adachi, the main character of Cherry Magic. He's still himself, and the same goes for Lan Zhan.

Lan Zhan’s voice is so clear, so sudden that it’s as though it’s spoken, the slice of a sharp object through velvet.

He’s touching me.

Wei Ying startles for a moment, wonders if he’d somehow heard his own thoughts instead, but — no, that had definitely been Lan Zhan’s steady, factual baritone, loud and clear.

God, this is still so weird. It still doesn’t seem totally real. But how else can he account for hearing Lan Zhan’s voice in his head, as clearly as if he’d spoken to Wei Ying directly?

18. like blue flame over my fingertips by tangerinechar - ~37,000 words, teen - Modern AU where Lan Zhan and Wei Ying are roommates, and Lan Zhan just finds himself wanting to take care of Wei Ying.

Lan Wangji’s roommate. Is a problem.

He doesn’t get an answer to the roommate problem until the next morning, when Lan Xichen texts him telling him that the apartment he’d suggested (and helped pay rent for) to Lan Wangji said in the small text that it’d be two people per apartment, the second bedroom wasn’t actually a guest bedroom, sorry, Wangji, you can move in with me if you want, I have space —

No. Thank you for your kind offer, Brother, but I will be quite fine, Lan Wangji texts back.

19. ** some impulse of delight by handclaps - ~20,000 words, explicit - College AU where Wei Ying decides he needs to help Lan Zhan get used to touching people. Lan Zhan agrees. Wei Ying is dumb and in love. Lan Zhan is less dumb, but still as in love.

Lan Zhan shakes his head and fumbles, tries to push the cotton wool into Wei Wuxian’s hand.

“Sorry,” Wei Wuxian says, realising. “Touching people, I know.”

He feels dumb. He thought he’d worn Lan Zhan down more than this, that they were friends now and that his whole no touching thing was mostly overcome. He took Wei Wuxian’s hand easily, right? He looks down at his belly full of scratches, dabbing at them moodily.

“Sorry,” he says, again.

Lan Zhan makes some kind of noise, but he is busy packing the first aid kit back, placing everything exactly where it was before.

“Lan Zhan, you’re going to have to do something about this,” Wei Wuxian complains. “I know you don’t like touching people and usually it plays as a kind of gentlemanly thing, but what about emergencies?”

20. And I Will Call You Home by Spodumene - ~43,000 words, explicit - Wei Wuxian returns after a year of traveling and rejoins Lan Zhan in the Cloud Recesses. He's doing a good job of pining and ignoring the obvious. Look, at this point, it shouldn't be a surprise that I'm a sucker for stories where Wei Wuxian deals with his ~*~issues~*~ and Lan Zhan takes care of him, whether he asks for it or not. This story has lots of that. I also enjoyed the case fic aspect of it.

“I do, I think,” Wei Wuxian admits. “Would be nice to see his face again after so long. And at least this time, I’m going to show up draped in finery. What do you think, Lan Zhan? I can’t possibly disgrace him—or you—wearing a cloak like that.”

“You could never disgrace me,” Lan Wangji says gently, that soft, affectionate look back on his face.

Wei Wuxian grins, warmed to the tips of his toes.

“I’ll remind you of that later. The next time I’m three jars deep and feeling especially shameless, you’ll have to remember those words, Lan Er-gege.”

“Of course,” Lan Wangji says simply.

Wei Wuxian smiles some more, overwhelmed by fondness.

21. darling, am i a chore? by martyrsdaughter - ~7,000 words, explicit - Wei Wuxian really, really wants Lan Zhan to call him 'gege'. Lan Zhan knows a trump card when he sees one.

“You know what I want,” Wei Wuxian purrs, reaching up on his tiptoes to throw his arms over Lan Wangji’s shoulders. “Call me gege, won’t you? Call me and I’ll stop.”

Lan Wangji knows he will not stop, regardless of what he calls him. Still, he thinks about it. If there really is a way to make Wei Wuxian stop, should he not consider it? He doesn’t have any real interest in curbing his husband’s insatiable mischievousness, but he does like knowing things about him—everything there is to know.

If there’s something that persuasive in the world, that it can bring Wei Wuxian into submission when no one is under threat, could he stop himself from seeking it?

22. your name, safe in their mouth by astrolesbian - ~11,000 words, gen - Wei Wuxian & Lan Sizhui fic with the Wangxian in the background. Lan Sizhui wants another dad and Wei Wuxian wants a son, they just don't know how to explain that to each other.

“Hush,” Wei Wuxian says, in a low croon, like someone quieting a baby. Then he blinks, and looks away, awkward. “I mean—you shouldn’t speak. You’re tired. Rest if you need to.”

Lan Sizhui tucks his chin into his uncle’s shoulder, and lets his eyes fall closed.

“It doesn’t hurt too much, does it?” Wen Ning whispers to him kindly.

Lan Sizhui takes a deep breath, and takes stock of all his aches, his ringing ear, his hollow chest, the way he had selfishly wanted Wei Wuxian to keep speaking to him in that careful voice, like he was just a child to be soothed and there was no real danger. How dangerous, to pretend. “No,” he lies. “It doesn’t hurt that much at all.”

23. when you're doing all the leaving (then it's never your love lost) by tardigradeschool - ~26,000 words, teen - AU where Lan Zhan with Wei Wuxian to Jin Ling's one-month celebration. Things go down, and it leads to Lan Zhan discovering Wei Wuxian's missing golden core. This obviously will not do, and oh look, the best doctor in the world just happens to be right here.

“How—“ Lan Wangji chokes. “His core —?” He looks at Wen Ning, half accusatory in his shock. “Jin Zixun could not have—“

“No, no!” Wen Ning says, holding out his hands. “He hasn’t had one for years, don’t worry!”

This is not as reassuring as Wen Ning seems to think.

“Please explain,” Lan Wangji says, pained. He feels for Wei Wuxian’s pulse instead; in the absence of a golden core, it will have to do as reassurance that he’s still alive.

Wen Ning is so anxious that the story comes out in a ramble, out of order. Lan Wangji wants him to hurry up, but he’s also not confident in his own ability to speak, so he just keeps quiet and lets him talk. His heart feels as if it’s about to fall from his chest, beating nearly twice as fast as Wei Wuxian’s does under his fingers.

24. A Match in the Making by lareine - ~30,000 words, teen - A Modern AU where Wei Wuxian sees his single and bad ass friend Lan Zhan and his single and bad ass friend Mianmian and gets some very dumb ideas.

To return to the point: Lan Zhan was peak adulting. Mianmian was peak adulting. And if they were both at the peak, then they were on the same level. What level? That mysterious level thing that everyone mentioned when it came to dating.

Whatever level it was, Lan Zhan and Mianmian were on it together. Wei Ying nodded to himself. So, Lan Zhan and Mianmian were allowed to date each other. The next question was: were they compatible? Did they have chemistry or whatever the fuck people called it?

25. Crack me open, pour you out by Tenillypo - ~16,000 words, explicit - Lan Zhan gets cursed to say whatever he's thinking. So his worst nightmare. Mutual pining, first time, all good stuff.

Lan Wangji freezes with his chopsticks halfway to his mouth, lifting his eyes to stare at Wei Ying.

"I know! Just completely paralyzed." Wei Ying mimes being still as a board. "I don't know how long I lay there. It must have been two days at least. Good thing for Little Apple. He wandered back to the village when he got hungry, and eventually a few of them got brave enough to come look for me. When they rolled me over, the figure fell out of my hand and I could move again. Cunning little thing." He shakes his head. "I was weak as a kitten for a little while after they took me back to the village, and by the time I recovered, they'd burned the whole place to the ground. Such a waste."

Lan Wangji slowly lowers his chopsticks, heart racing unpleasantly. In his head, a picture of Wei Ying slowly wasting to death alone in the middle of the woods, with Lan Wangji a hundred miles away and none the wiser.

26. Crazy, Rich Cultivators by ShanaStoryteller - 13,000 words, no rating - Lan Zhan wants to bring his boyfriend home to meet his family. There are some things he definitely didn't realize about Wei Ying.

“He has a life here,” he says down the line. He doesn’t say that he has a life here too, one he likes a lot more than the one he had before. He misses home. He’d miss Wei Ying more. But he doesn’t say that, doesn’t say how vibrant he is and how beautiful and how little interest Lan Zhan has at seeing him among the high society he grew up with.

“Well, your life is here, Wangji,” his brother says. “You can’t stay away from home forever. You’re going to have to see how he does with the rest of us sooner or later. It might as well be sooner.”

It might as well be never, as far as he’s concerned. His family can meet Wei Ying at their wedding.

“I’ll ask,” he says.

Wei Ying has no interest in cultivation politics. They’re horrible, the five clans have an iron tight alliance that’s thirty seconds away from collapsing in on itself the moment someone from one sect steps on another sect’s toes. 28. ** Rotten Work by ShanaStoryteller - ~64,000 words, no rating - Jin Ling & Wei Wuxian with Wangxian in the background. Jin Ling is the best boy! And as he tries to rehabilitate his sect and his family and keep himself alive at the same time, he realizes, horrifyingly, that he has to be the mature one.

29. ** an act too often neglected by Ariaste - Lan Xichen / Meng Yao, ~61,000 words, explicit - The Wangxian is in the background here, but the main story is about Lan Xichen meeting Meng Yao on a dating app and getting immediately dickmatized. Meanwhile. Meng Yao refuses to be won over by Lan Xichen's charm. It goes as well as you'd expect for him.

The caption below is equally sparse: “5’6. Demanding.”

Lan Xichen feels a low simmer of arousal kindle in the pit of his stomach, and he gazes at that word-- demanding --for nearly as long as he’d stared at the photograph. He swipes right.

A few minutes later, a notification pops up: < Hm, the size of your hands is promising.

This is familiar. This is the flirtation stage. Lan Xichen knows the steps to the dance.

30. My Land Beneath Me by longleggedgit - ~30,000 words, explicit - Modern AU where Wei Wuxian is cast out of his sect and out of China to America. And Lan Zhan just...follows.

Lan Zhan always waited for his tea to cool before drinking, which meant he had nothing to do but give Wei Wuxian a judgmental look. “No more McDonald’s.”

“You’re just bitter because you get indigestion from anything that actually tastes good,” Wei Wuxian grumbled.

Because Lan Zhan was insufferably mature and patient, he didn’t rise to the bait. “We have time to stop somewhere before class,” he said.

“Fine. But you’re paying this time.”

It was a bad joke, and predictably, fell flat; Lan Zhan was, after all, paying for everything, every time. Wei Wuxian frowned into his mug.

“You know,” he said, after another swallow, “you really don’t have to be here. I’m going to figure something out.”

hello my friends, one singular person asked for this weeks ago so i’m here with my most unhinged rec list yet: tk and nolan.

now, this one was hard to reign in, so i really didn’t. this pairing had maybe 230 fics in the tag when i first started reading hockey fic, and it’s now over 900, and i’ve read far too many of them, and that makes it so hard to parse it down. so i just...didn't!

so with that said, please enjoy so you want to get into tknp: a beginners guide to a classic case of idiots to lovers

i told myself that i couldn’t rec an author’s entire body of work but then i remembered this is my blog and i do what i want, so i did some consolidating. here’s a list of the quintessential authors for this pairing, you can start at any of their profiles and pick any of their fics at random, and it’ll be one of the best ones for the pairing, hands down.

therainbowsedge: i’d start with the summer camp fic, or the sex toys one, as both beautifully capture the true idiots to lovers nature of this pairing, but just top tier writing all around

manybumblebees: the wedding fic is so tender and port stanley is a classic, but literally pick any single fic and you’ll have a perfect tknp fic. i’m not kidding

jamesvanriemsdick: their tknp fics in their series are some of the hidden gems of this pairing (the tk heartbeat fic makes me LOSE it) but the delaware fic or the seattle fic…..there’s really something for every mood

catchascatchcan: start with era of gods because i could write literal essays on how it’s some of the best fantasy worldbuilding i’ve ever read, but then just read everything else on their account, including non tknp fics. you won’t regret it

hackysack: ao3 user hackysack has written one of two timeloop fics that i absolutely adore, and i thought about just calling that one out in particular, but all of their work deserves the attention

canary: nothing to prove was the first tknp fic i ever read and i was immediately hooked. all of their fics are a good starting place for the pairing, and just really give you a feeling for the pairing

why i love it: there’s not a lot ofo nonbinary characters in media, even in fic, but this fic’s treatment of nolan and their path to figuring out their gender just feels so real and made me feel so seen. tk’s characterization is also just top notch, and it’s just a super sweet story about two people who love each other

last ones standing by makeit_takeit

summary: If you’re committed to finding your future spouse, reads the last line of the ad, and are ready to look at yourself and your love life in a whole new way, apply now.

At the bottom of the ad there’s a link, and Travis finds his finger hovering over the screen, lip still caught between his teeth.

“I mean,” he says very reasonably, speaking out loud to his empty apartment like some sort of possibly-crazy person, “just applying doesn’t mean anything. Maybe I just fill it out, and see what happens. It’s not like I’m really gonna get picked to be on TV, come on.”

He snorts out loud, just to show his apartment he hasn’t lost his grip on reality or anything; he fully understands how ludicrous that would be.

Then he clicks the link anyway, because yolo or whatever.

why i love it: what part of a married at first sight fic doesn’t make you want to immediately dive right in? the concept is fun, the execution is absolutely flawless, and it captures their dynamic so well while letting it develop naturally

motivation by connectknee

summary: Kevin knows when to back off, the article said. He knows just when to shut up and leave Patty alone, something Travis has never known how to do.

why i love it: the thing i love about this pairing is that tk is loud and in your face, and nolan’s more reserved, a little quieter, a little harder to read. this fic does a really great job of exploring how tk could feel like maybe he’s just a bit too much and is one of my favorites in terms of miscommunication

a tenderness grows by rusesdeguerre

summary: Nolan wouldn’t say that landing a job as the Philadelphia Flyers’ psychotic and probably clinically insane mascot was a childhood dream of his. Maybe tangentially: playing pond hockey in –30°C weather and pretending to be Sidney Crosby is practically a rite of passage when you grow up in Manitoba. That, and experiencing the distinct displeasure that is thousands of mosquitoes sucking your blood out when your father drags you on a father-son camping trip into the backwoods of the northern Canadian Prairies.

why i love it: this was the first fic i recced on this blog, and i stand by that decision. a fic where nolan is not only not a hockey player, but is in fact the person in the gritty suit? absolutely perfect, and so charming from start to finish

meet me at my window by springsteen

summary: Travis has lived in Philadelphia for a few years now, long enough to know there isn’t a major city in America where superheroes don’t destroy an entire city block trying to save humanity or whatever. He can deal with all the super-shit, but Travis did not sign up for getting woken up from a deep sleep because some fucker’s trying to break in through his window.

(5 times the super-villain known as "The Cat" breaks into Travis's apartment, plus 1 time Travis invites him in.)

why i love it: there’s a lot of things to love here, but the concept is just absolutely one of my all time favorite aus ever. it’s fun and charming and the perfect glimpse into a world where heroes and villains exist, and what it’s like just to be a run of the mill kind of guy existing in it. tk and nolan’s back and forth in this make it so engaging, and it’s such a top tier fic

body’s in trouble by cloudsandpassingevents

summary: “Oh, sorry,” someone says. “Didn’t know anyone else was here.”

Nolan freezes, then turns around very slowly. When he looks up, Nicklas fucking Backstrom is standing behind him in a hoodie and baggy sweats, holding the biggest bag of Swedish Fish Nolan’s ever seen in his life in one hand.

“Uh,” Nolan says around the pop tart between his teeth. “Yeah.”

What the fuck, his brain helpfully supplies.

why i love it: from nolan’s inner voice, to the way the author explores all the dynamics within the team, to the way they write the unexpected but actually, it kind of makes sense friendship between nolan and backstrom, is just absolutely fantastic. there’s a lot of moments that circle back and build on each other in a way that really just makes it super compelling

rhizomatic foundations by lighthousetowers

summary: Twenty days after he moves in with Kevin Hayes, twenty days – three months, five months, depending on how you look at it – after not talking to TK, TK shows up at the front door with a plant the size of a basketball in his hands.

TK grins. "Patty, meet Reginald." He lifts up the plant. "Reggie, meet Patty. He's going to be your new - caretaker."

"What the fuck," says Nolan, not moving a single muscle.

Or: That Nolan can hear the plant talk might as well just happen.

why i love it: this is probably my favorite magical realism fic just about ever. it’s fun and charming and a little weird, but in the best possible way. there’s such a wonderful narrative in it, and lighthousetowers always has such beautiful writing, and it really shines in this one. the dialogue and nolan’s characterization are also part of what set it apart for me as one of the best tknp fics

in the dark of any town by mengetpegged

summary: If the voice has an accent at all, it’s a flat prairie Canadian, with none of G’s French-Canadian softness at the edges. But mostly, the accent is just ‘pissed off,’ which TK believes is a default setting for ghosts.

“Who are you?” TK asks, and he doesn’t like how strained his voice sounds, doesn’t like the tinge of anxiety tinting the rise of his question. He tries to regulate his breaths—in through his nose, hold, out through his mouth—but it feels like he’s not getting enough oxygen, which makes him panic even more.

“Someone with a fucking migraine, dickhead,” the voice says. “So keep the lights off and shut the hell up.”

why i love it: i’m usually not super into ghost fics, both the spooky kind and the nonspooky kind, but this one is a rare exception. it’s charming and fun and tender and it’s got some of, in my opinion, the best characterization of tk and nolan in any fic. the way the author writes their dynamic and their dialogue is just unmatched

summary: Travis meets Nolan at a Midtown show in 2002 when he punches Nolan in the face. He can’t help it, “Like A Movie” just goes off.

But he does feel guilty about it.

TK and Patty work at a bakery together. They go to punk shows to pass the time.

why i love it: idk if anyone asked for an early 2000s emo/punk/alt au but wow! i sure am glad it exists! really the vibes of this fic, as silly as that sounds, are absolutely unmatched. i love the structure with the music, the development of their relationship, and just everything about how the author wrote the setting (there’s this whole thing with tattoos in it that makes me feel absolutely insane)

you’re ripped at every edge by you’re a masterpiece by conformityissuicide

summary: “Ugh, look, this yoga teacher has it out for me, man. And I can’t go back there without at least having some of the basics down. I’ve got to win this battle.”

“Yoga isn’t really something you win at,” Hartsy starts.

Travis cuts him off, “You can win at anything if you try hard enough.”

OR that time Nolan's a grumpy yoga teacher and Travis realizes he wants to bone him and prove him wrong about Travis' non-existent yoga abilities.

why i love it: listen, if you want tknp, at least one of them has to be an idiot, and this tk absolutely captures the obliviousness i love to see in him in fic. it’s such a great characterization of them both and such a great concept (and even better execution)

you form a terror pack (and i’m aware of that) by dalmatienne

summary: “Can I help you?” TK snarks, both eyebrows hiked up in a way that has earned her many elbow checks to the ribs.

The chick looks down her nose, long thick eyelashes fluttering. Red-bitten lips part to blow a florid pink bubble and TK can smell the chemical sweetness when it pops.

“Yeah,” she says in this monotonous voice that seems almost at odds with her bubble gum and neon skates. She jams her stopper into TK’s thigh again, literally inches away from where it’d really hurt. “Tie ‘em.”

why i love it: to be honest, i generally don’t read rule 63 within hrpf, but this one is just absolutely knocks it out of the park. the concept (i fuckin’ love roller derby), the characterization of nolan, the pacing, the rituals, the tone of the entire fic, it’s just all around a perfect read from start to finish

thrills and grills by bitter_leaf

summary: Travis can’t even begin to wonder what he did in a previous life to incur the wrath of this fucking cook. Travis thinks he’s a nice person, doesn’t conduct himself in any way that could be considered particularly dickish, and unless this guy has some sort of issue with hockey bros or people from the boonies, he’s not sure how he started shit without even knowing.

Patty has a vendetta. Travis just wants to eat his eggs in peace.

why i love it: honestly this is the enemies to lovers fic i’ve been waiting for. i remember seeing the reddit post when it first went viral and thinking it would make such a great fic premise, so stumbling across this one was just so wonderful. super engaging and fun and so hilarious to read!

nothing but room for you by fightingfuries

summary: When his agent tells him he’s going to be traded to the Devils, Nolan isn't sure how he feels about it. Might be easier if he was going somewhere farther away, like California or fucking Florida. Somewhere sun-soaked and foreign. Someplace so different from Philadelphia that he can forget he ever played for the Flyers, forget everything that happened there.

Or Nolan fucks up, gets traded, gets his shit together and falls in love. Not necessarily in that order.

why i love it: i cannot stress to you how much i love trade fics, and this one is one of my absolute favorites. the trade to the devils-so close to philly, still, but there’s more to distance than physical miles-was such an excellent choice and the split timeline adds so much to the narrative, and the emotions are real and messy and complicated in the best way

a couple of runaways (i’m glad you stayed) by overturnedgoal

summary: The person in the video he’s watching is super annoying. Some obnoxious holier than thou granola type who keeps talking about their environmental impact as if they aren’t driving a gas guzzler around, but the basic idea of living in a van, driving around wherever, camping all the time, just going hiking and swimming and seeing the whole country? It sounds pretty dope, honestly.

why i love it: i like to watch tours and conversions of vans/buses into tiny homes as a self soothing method, and this fic has the same impact that watching those do. it’s such a fun concept, and it’s so fuckin’ soft, and the dialouge between tk and nolan is just *chef’s kiss*

all candor and style in the crook of your smile by p3trichor

summary: It’s a photo of Nolan on his knees with someones’ fingers in his mouth, lips slick with spit. Travis flicks by it almost too fast and he’s only got seconds to decide if he wants to screenshot it, if he wants to just give up the ghost right then and there. Except Travis’s phone freezes momentarily and then the group refreshes, sidcros87, Bert59 and 14 others took a screenshot!

It’s gone before Travis even has time to process it and he already wasted his replay of the day on a stupid video of a stupid fish that Hayes caught.

Can you send me that screenshot Travis texts Bertuzzi before he can overthink it, his dick already stirring in his sweats. Tuzzi sends back the cry-laughing emoji and then the screenshot before Travis can be too annoyed at him.

Or, Nolan is being weird about Travis's break-up and TK is maybe not straight.

why i love it: i genuinely don’t think i have words for the amount i love this fic. it took me forever to actually read, but it’s absolutely one of my favorite fics, and it’s an absolutely riot to read. carter’s meddling and the presence of tyler bertuzzi both make it extra fun, in my humble opinion

Down in the Yi City Pit: A Recs Post

So as anyone following me may have noticed, I’ve been spiraling ever deeper into a pit called Yi City Feelings. I’m down at the bottom and I’m still digging. This also means I’ve been doing a lot of fic reading, and I figure it’s about time that I wrote a recs list, since I said I’d do it and some people expressed interest.

Heads up that I am a dirty Xue Yang stan first and foremost, so this list is going to skew in, uh, that direction. Just so we’re all aware.

Divided these into canonverse recs and modern au recs, since apparently this is the only thing I’ll read modern aus for! It’s a brave new world out here.

Also like. blanket warnings across the board here for The Inherent Dubiousness of Xue Yang/Xiao Xingchen as a Pairing, Generally. I’ll offer more specific/major ones as they’re relevant/I remember, but please check the tags/authors notes as well.

CANONVERSE

lover to your nightmare by Zaatar (@ameliarating) . Xue Yang uses Xiao Xingchen getting sick as an opportunity to fuck around a little. Second person POV sickfic, except XueXiao flavored sickfic which means it’s messy and full of good things like “delirium” and “people taking advantage of other peoples’ confusion and disorientation to mess with them psychologically.” This fic also does the thing I love really well where Xue Yang’s internal monologue/self-justification is full of indications that he’s having Feelings that he neither recognizes nor acknowledges. Crunchy, delicious.

Samsara / 輪迴 by ForgivenMemes. Upsetting fic full of every content warning ever alert! (Off the top of my head: violence, rape, suicide, self-harm.) I keep going back to this fic and rereading it because it hurts so bad and I love it, because it hurts in the best worst self-sabotage recapitulating-mistakes-over-and-over way. Like, I am a sucker for a time loop fic always, and usually I read them as a route to fixing things - but honestly I’ve always loved the part of time loop fics that’s “everything getting worse first.” And this is a whole fic of “everything getting worse.” Aka, the one where Xue Yang has thousands of chances to get it right, but there’s no getting it right.

compromise by Sectionladvivi. Xiao Xingchen convinces Song Lan and Xue Yang to kiss. (aka, obviously Yi City AU where Song Lan gets folded into things, Xiao Xingchen still doesn’t know about Xue Yang being Xue Yang, and an uneasy detente where the two of them don’t touch each other gets interrupted by Xiao Xingchen Wanting Things, which is, of course, a priority always).

til dawn by Sectionladvivi. Xue Yang takes care of Xiao Xingchen’s body after his death, and mind the tags. This is that perfect Yi City level of “horrifying and also very sad, I feel bad for my boy but also he is sort of defiling a corpse (though it is just kissing).” This might not sound like a recommendation but it is absolutely a recommendation.

Our Antebellum Innocence by spockandawe (@spockandawe). First time XueXiao. Xue Yang lays the groundwork for his first time with Xiao Xingchen with meticulous care. This author always delivers, both in terms of excellent porn and in terms of characterization, and this is no exception.

life’s illusions I recall by Sour_Idealist (@souridealist). The basics of this fic is just “outdoor sex at a river” and it is delicious for that, but what I love about it in particular is this author’s Xue Yang voice. It’s always good (they are the genius behind the incredible Jiang Yanli/Xue Yang fic - no, really), and this is a fic I come back to a lot for that reason. I also love the tag “two characters experiencing two very different fics” which feels like a very apt description for the XueXiao dynamic, generally speaking.

Selenographia by lightningwaltz. A lovely, short-ish fic about the Yi City years. I don’t feel like I have a good description for this one - it’s just one of those beautiful character/moment portrait pieces, very well done.

Stories from A Lonely City by blackwatervial. A series of snapshots/vignettes from the three years in Yi City. Sweetness, bittersweetness, and of course, ultimately, a sad end. This was one of the first Yi City fics I read.

yi city depression hours by glueskin (series). Just. You know. Some feelings. There’s two fics in this one, both short character study type fics making me feel feelings.

a bird caught in this winter blizzard by cherriru. I do love a good grief/mourning fic, especially featuring someone realizing slowly the sheer miserable depths of their fuck-up. Aka, Xue Yang after Xiao Xingchen’s death. It’s just sad.

all I ever knew of love by Sour_Idealist (@souridealist). See what I said above about the Xue Yang voice and this author; this one also featuring blistering hot porn (first time), a little light praise kink, and huddling for warmth as an excuse for sex. It’s a perfect blend of filth and tenderness and I love it.

revelations wallet wood burn art by Sectionladvivi. This one describes itself in the summary as “grim pwp” and yeah, that fits (and also! is such a XueXiao vibe, whoop whoop); it’s based off the simple premise of ‘Xue Yang tells Xiao Xingchen who he is, in the middle of sex.’ Honestly, one of my favorite things about this fic is the ending, which is horrifying in the best possible way.

Your Heart Inside My Hands by williamshooketh (@ectoplasm-james). This fic is fabulously made for me in the specific subgenre of “Xue Yang thinks he knows what he is getting into when having sex with Xiao Xingchen and, it turns out, does not.” This one featuring some of my favorite things including praise kink and Xue Yang getting extremely fucked up by someone being very nice to him.

Sleep Until the Sun Goes Down by spockandawe (@spockandawe). Love me some Xiao Xingchen seducing Xue Yang with candy. First time fic, second person POV, absolutely delightful.

pass the time by short_tandem_repeats (@yiling). A-Qing and Xue Yang bonding hours. I am actually such a sucker for their weird relationship (I don’t poke at it enough in my own stuff, should work on that) and the way they recognize each other in ways that Xiao Xingchen doesn’t, and also a-Qing having to reckon with the ways in which she’s more like Xue Yang than like Xiao Xingchen. Just a very good fic with a delightful a-Qing.

Three Springs by Verbana. Just a really excellent Xiao Xingchen POV of the three years in Yi City and a developing relationship between Xiao Xingchen and Xue Yang. Beautifully written, a lovely escalation, and I’m absolutely delighted by the gentle loneliness of the Xiao Xingchen POV here.

Red Azalea by CeNedraRiva (@cenedrariva) (WIP). A longfic in progress following the continuing adventures of the Yi City Crew after Xiao Xingchen survives his suicide attempt and Xue Yang reconsiders some life choices. Recently got tag-updated to SongXueXiao which has me absolutely thrilled. Updates every Wednesday.

ephemeral by im_krying (WIP). Xue Yang, traveling around wearing Xiao Xingchen’s face, decides it is time to go looking for the last remaining part of Xiao Xingchen that he doesn’t already possess. That is to say, the eyes in Song Lan’s head. I’m really curious where this is going - it smells up my alley at this point though it’s been a bit since the last update.

Heaven Has a Road But No One Walks It by Silvestris (@silvysartfulness) (WIP). Things I love: beating on Xue Yang, SongXueXiao, terrible road trips, fix-its where there’s a lot of suffering involved. Things this fic has: all of the above. I’m in love.

MODERN AU

(There are other recs to this one but for various reasons (pwp reasons) triggered my self-consciousness slightly too much to put on this post. Go check my bookmarks, you’ll find stuff there.

Most of these are PWP to greater or lesser extents (Rewritten and Misalignment are, I’d say, the exceptions); all very hot and fantastically written.)

circling like vultures by brawlite (@brawlite) (series). Truly quality porn, featuring mostly Xue Yang/Song Lan both pining for Xiao Xingchen, which is a thing that it turns out I really like. The sex is rough and mean and I’m really into it. (Okay, mostly the sex in the first one is mean, the second one is actually XueYao, and the third one is actually verging on nice. Wow! Growth. Anyway, it’s all very good and very My Scene.

Rewritten by incendir (series). This series is like. Everything I want from a modern AU and that was true even before the most recent fic gifted me a beat up Xue Yang suffering, so you know. I don’t have a good summary for this series other than that it’s basically a married Song Lan and Xiao Xingchen adopting Xue Yang as a third partner and it’s just. So well done, such good writing, such good characterization, I would read 20,000 more words of this and probably still be hungry.

catalyst by Ajaxthegreat. If there is a porny fic I’ve reread more than this one, I’m not sure what it would be. I’ve reread this one a lot. It’s very good. It’s very hot. I’m trying not to be self-conscious. SongXueXiao first time rough sex and boy is it tasty.

biting the bullet by Sectionladvivi. Xiao Xingchen doesn’t want to have to choose between his two boyfriends and so he doesn’t. Sectionladvivi in general writes some very sexy modern au PWP (including a few different Xue Yang/Lan Wangji fics which...didn’t see that one coming! But it works when they do it), so general rec for author but this one (as, you know, SongXueXiao porn), is one of my favorites, probably.

sxx configurations by rynleaf (series). This is a SongXueXiao series on AO3 based off of @kevinkevinson‘s modern reincarnation AU and I am in love with both the art for that AU (go look!) and these fics, they’re so good, I’ve reread several times.

Misalignment by Kasasagi (WIP). The one with a reincarnated Xue Yang and a Xiao Xingchen who arrives in the modern world from the past, fresh off his suicide.

And Once Again, if I’m Allowed to Rec My Own Fic

a kindness you can’t afford. Early days in Yi City after Xue Yang wakes up.

lick your exit wounds. I wanted canonverse-era bottom Xue Yang praise kink, so I wrote it for myself in the hopes others would also find this an interesting prospect.

this place could be beautiful. Xue Yang vs. domestic living.

tear out all your tenderness. Xue Yang gets turned on by murder and makes it a project to get Xiao Xingchen to lose control.

Eden of the East

Eden’s one of those animes where you start watching and then decide you’re not going to stop until you finish it. It’s absolutely binge worthy and has such a unique concept with a lot of mystery and romance sprinkled in here and there!

Eden of the East is about a girl named Saki who goes to Washington to visit the White House. There she meets a boy named Takizawa who, for some reason, shows up completely naked, and just had his memories wiped, so he has no idea who he is. As Takizawa and Saki start to bond, Taki starts to put together the pieces of his past. Apparently before his memory got wiped he was involved in a “game” with 11 other people, and each of them were gifted 10 billion yen to attempt to change Japan for the better. Taki discovers more and more about the person he was before he wiped his memory–he might have been involved in terrorism, that’s great–and he and Saki start falling in love with each other and it’s really. Really soft.

It’s 11 episodes, and then there’s two sequel movies after that!

Mawaru Penguindrum

ONE OF MY PERSONAL ALL TIME FAVORITES…MP is such an underrated series and it’s so unique and just out there. Everything in this series has symbolism, though it may not seem like it upfront–everything has a deeper meaning! The series pretty much rides on symbolism and reference to other media in the background.

The story follows twin brothers Shouma and Kanba Takakura, who live on their own with their terminally ill little sister, Himari. In the first episode, Himari passes away, but is miraculously revived by a strange spirit inside of a penguin hat. The spirit demands the brothers find what’s called the “penguindrum” in order to keep Himari alive. The siblings are gifted with the help of three strange penguins who are invisible to everyone except for them. Their search leads them to a girl named Ringo, who has a mysterious diary that can apparently “change fate”. Believing this to be the penguindrum, Shouma gets heavily involved with Ringo’s schemes to chase her one true love, Tabuki, who also happens to be the twins’ teacher. (Which, inevitably, ends in disaster lmao.) As the series goes on the themes get darker, as the twins discover more about their parents’ past and their involvement with a terrorist act many years ago.

I should warn you that while MP is VERY good, it definitely gets…weirder as it progresses, and darker, like I said. There’s a couple triggers I should warn ya’ll about if you plan to watch it: (minor) incest (Kanba kisses Himari in the first episode and that’s like. The extent of it), attempted rape (a character wants to become pregnant with a guy’s child, but they’re stopped before they can go through with it, and there’s also another one with two women), terrorism, sexual and physical abuse, and…I think that’s it? Wow I honestly forgot how dark this series is tgnakdsasda

Anyway I highly suggest it, it’s one of my favorites, but it’s definitely…strange, and not for everyone. You have to have a certain taste to really take to MP, but I promise it’s worth it, especially since Shouma is baby and I would do anything for him and his stupid pretty long eyelashes

Kobato

This one is absolutely ADORABLE and soft and a very feel-good anime. If you wanna sit down and relax with a lighthearted series with romance and slice of life definitely go with this one!

The series is about a girl named Kobato who wants to fulfill a lifetime wish of going to the place she wishes to go. It isn’t really specified where until the end of the series so I won’t spoil ;) In order to do so she has to collect the healed fragments of people’s hearts inside of a bottle. However, she has a time limit–one year to complete the task. Unfortunately, Kobato is ditzy and naive, which leads her into a whole bunch of troublesome situations, and this makes it hard for her to connect with people. She’s guided by her partner, a little dog plush toy named Ioryogi, who was apparently cursed and trapped in that form due to his meddling in the affairs of the heavens. If Kobato completes her mission, Ioryogi will also be allowed to return to his original form. Kobato soon learns that being herself–honest, kind, and sweet, is the way to heal people’s hearts. She gets involved with a kindergarten and begins working there to help out the principal, Sayaka. Also part of the kindergarten is Fujimoto, a very handsome yet sarcastic man who is very closed off from everyone. As the series progresses, Fujimoto’s initial irritation and annoyance with Kobato fades away, and they start falling in love.

Senyuu

Of course I’m going to suggest Senyuu do ya’ll even KNOW ME

For those of you who don’t know, Senyuu is one of my all time favorite series in existence–unfortunately the anime doesn’t even cover the good parts of it, as it only adapts part 1, which is just the beginning of the whole mess. I’m still going to recommend it nonetheless!

Senyuu’s about a hero named Alba and the royal soldier assigned to him, Ros! Alba’s more of a wannabe than anything, and can barely hold his own against super low level slimes. He’s sarcastic and witty and acts as the straight man in a comedy routine with Ros. Ros, on the other hand, is sadistic, snaky and rude, and his favorite pastime is teasing Alba incessantly. Together the two of them are out on an adventure to find the Demon Lord, who was apparently sealed away a thousand years ago by the Legendary Hero Creasion. The Demon Lord released tons of monsters into the human world, causing problems for everyone. When they do encounter the Demon Lord, however, they discover that she’s actually the granddaughter of the original Demon Lord, and that the appearing monsters were caused by a mere accident. Alba and Ros decide to help the girl, Rchi, find all of the monsters and send them back to the Demon World where they belong. They go after the Big Twelve, the most powerful demons in existence, and end up in a lot of trouble regarding a conspiracy in the kingdom!

Senyuu’s basically a comedy until the last few episodes where shit gets Real and secrets are revealed! If you enjoy the anime and want to know what happens next DEFINITELY read the webcomic, part 2 is my personal favorite and where a whole bunch of crazy plot twists happen.

There’s 26 episodes, they’re only about 5 minutes a piece, so you could finish the entire anime in about 2 hours 👌

fic recs (part 1?)

hi!!! so @n3tn0b0dy sent me an ask about fic recs, and i am stupid so it took me a few mins to like. compose myself and figure out what this is. i am definitely absolutely going to miss a few fics here, which is why it is a part one. i will probably keep this short-ish??? maybe go into more detailed ones later :eyes:

something close to domestic, maybe by @mystxmomo (hi!)

definitely one of my favorite danganronpa fics, currently and (probably) forever. it’s a mature rated kamukoma fic, following an AU in which, instead of the remnants being captured and taken to jabberwock, despair sort of... fizzles out on its own, leaving the remnants of despair-- and the rest of the world-- to sort of heal with it. it’s in a series with another fic, that is in the same universe but following a different narrative with different central characters, and though it only has one chapter rn i highly rec that too.

i like this fic for many reasons and to avoid prattling on, i will bullet point it.

- easy to follow. there are not overly complex structures-- not that that is inherently a bad thing, i also tend to love that style-- which makes it easy to digest.

- strong emotional impact. this fic has made me cry very, very often.

- really good characterization. mystxmomo is very good with characterization overall, especially with kamukura and servant, and that really shows with this fic.

- a compelling plot that still retains a slice-of-life format. i don’t really know how else to elaborate here.

- an idiosyncratic look into their dynamic. this fic explores kamukoma in the process of them healing, which is pretty distinctively different to a lot of kamukoma fics. obviously, this is not to shade those other fics, but, yeah. i really like it.

okay sorry for rambling very much there, i really highly recommend it, it is a ongoing multichapter (i should have said that earlier i apologize) and the writer is also very cool.

this is actually a series. it currently has three fics-- one that is fully completed (defy you stars), one that is a completed oneshot (supersonic man outta you), and an ongoing multichapter with pretty frequent updates (prince of a thousand). this follows a post-SDR2 storyline, with a lot of ships and dynamics within it, but heaviest emphasis on komahina.

more bullet points! yay

- the characterization is god-fucking-tier. this author is very, very good at characterizing these characters and i will not shut up about it ever actually. they feel real, and distinct, and flawed, and alive, and i love everything about it.

- good exploration of dynamics! i think the latter two fics especially shows this off really well. the friendships and relationships built are all pretty different from each other, but all feel like a pretty natural progression, sticking true to the characters, and feels very... real. which i like a whole hell of a lot.

- there are so many literature references and i am happy about it. there are also sparknotes-ish things at the ending notes of each chapter, which translates the quote, explains the significance within its own text, and applies it to the fanfiction. they are used in ways that make sense, too-- they don’t feel forced.

- the plot and plot building is SO fucking good. prince of a thousand has so many cliffhangers and i am very happy but also dying.

anyway, i really rec this series! be mindful of the tags and the ratings on some of the fics, but they are really, really good reads.

okay. this is a v3 oneshot rec, exploring pregame rantaro, as well as his relationship with tsumugi shirogane. it’s rated “teen and up audiences”, and. holy shit, okay.

- the writing style of this is GORGEOUS. i don’t know what it is about the writing style, but it feels so much like rantaro is talking, which is so fucking cool, and i love that so fucking much??? i can’t even explain it, but it is seriously super neat.

- the EMOTIONS. this fic is so fucking emotional, honestly? it shows you this realistic, flawed, you could consider broken, character, shows them finding some hope, and shows the loss that comes with that. it’s so fucking incredible, and the lines have stuck with me even now, and it’s been a bit since i’ve last read. i think about the last couple lines especially a lot.

- these impactful one liners. holy shit. every line means something in this fic, and it’s so fucking cool and incredible, and i just??? holy shit??? i really love this fic???

i will say that this fic is sort of depressing in places, but i highly, and i mean highly, recommend. it is not a super difficult read, and it’s super, super fucking good. so i really recommend it.

okay. super, super fucking big content warning. this fic is a yikes, and the tags can sum it up a LOT better, but yeah. just keep that in mind.

that being said, this is a really gorgeously written oneshot centered around soulmate au kamukoma, exploring the sort of... unhealthy aspects of their relationship. and i. Wow. okay.

- these fucking one liners. holy SHIT. i remember some of these scenes and lines so very well, and it does live in my head rent free.

- the tone of this. the tone, and the mood created, is so fucking... i don’t even know how to describe it. terrifying? eerie? super fucking intriguing? it shows this shitty situation in an appropriately terrifying light, and it inflects so much emotion and connotation into the scenes, and holy shit. like, if i wanted to do a case study of incredible tonal work and diction and all, i would absolutely grab this fic.

- the characterization. while kamukura and komaeda are placed in a very interesting predicament, they still manage to stay pretty damn close to being in character, which i personally think is super remarkable. it almost enhances the circumstances too, ngl.

- their dynamic. their dynamic in this fic is NOT healthy, and that is shown in full “glory”, in a very messy and dysfunctional and terrifying way, and i absolutely love it. it has a kind of realism to it, almost a cautionary tale but not quite, a sort of “this isn’t very good but it still feels grounded in realism”. and wow. Wow. it’s so fucking good.

These go all the way back to mid-August, and I was really bad at keeping track of what I read and I don’t use bookmarks on AO3 like an idiot, so I’m definitely missing a few good ones, but I’ll get to that some other day.

that 01:48 if you’re performing this for a client 01:49 or you’re getting results for your 01:50 actual business then the results far 01:52 outweigh the cost and then any good 01:54 service though especially the ones we 01:56 recommend are gonna write these for you 01:57 again you can do it yourself but like 01:59 most things we say that you shouldn’t so 02:01 I rather yeah I don’t do you want to 02:02 kind of go further on that at all yeah I 02:05 mean like we actually have some question 02:08 somebody that Rebecca happy she sent me 02:12 an email earlier today asking me some 02:13 questions 02:14 about it you know this can be out 02:15 sourced and you know so what’s the 02:16 overall cost gonna be to have to get 02:19 results 02:19 you know what tools and software do we 02:21 need I posted her question on the page 02:23 the event page for today so I’ll kind of 02:26 answer that again at that point but 02:27 really you don’t need anything else like 02:29 you don’t need any software you don’t 02:31 need any tools you don’t need any 02:32 anything else there’s no other 02:34 additional expense other than the cost 02:36 of the writing the PR if you’re gonna 02:38 have it written which I highly recommend 02:40 that you do so that you don’t get bogged 02:41 down writing press releases also the 02:45 cost of the distribution and any good 02:47 Network distribution service out there 02:49 will have press release writing services 02:52 as an add-on available or if you go to 02:54 cerb space and you order press releases 02:56 from us our price is shown include the 02:59 writing of the press release you can’t 03:01 even submit your own press release to 03:03 our services because our writers know 03:06 what will get passed you know for the 03:08 editorial guidelines for the 03:10 distribution networks that we distribute 03:12 to so again we don’t even allow you to 03:14 rec to write your own press releases to 03:16 submit your own press releases because 03:18 we want our writers to do it so that we 03:20 know that they’re going to get approved 03:21 and they’re gonna get submitted and 03:22 picked up and syndicated which is really 03:24 what very thorough and in that in a 03:44 flat-out works in again I’ve had an 80% 03:46 success rate with applying these methods 03:49 and getting in the 3-pack with various 03:51 types of website configurations to is I 03:53 mean all the way down to a single 03:54 landing page built on click funnels with 03:57 no content and I was able to rank in the 03:59 three pack with two press releases so 04:01 again a very very powerful strategy and 04:03 I highly recommend that you outsource 04:04 every bit of it 04:05 so that you don’t have to do the 04:06 work you should be out there selling 04:08 this service and let the press release 04:11 companies whether it’s through SERP 04:12 space or whatever companies you decide 04:14 that you want to use let them do the 04:16 work right all you have to do is go sell 04:18 the service and so even at the high end 04:20 if you’re paying 150 bucks for 04:22 distribution plus writing if you’re 04:24 selling on the low end a press release 04:26 for a minimum of three 04:27 bucks which to be honest that’s guys 04:29 that’s my price point when I saw press 04:31 releases to my clients I saw him for 300 04:33 I know there’s a ton of people out there 04:35 on the web that are promoting selling 04:37 press release services for a minimum of 04:39 500 bucks per press release some say a 04:41 thousand bucks that’s great if you can 04:43 do that go do it knock yourself out go 04:46 rack up as many $500,000 press releases 04:48 as you can I’m just telling you from 04:50 what I sell them at is at 300 bucks and 04:53 so even if you pay 150 bucks to get the 04:55 press release written and distributed 04:57 you’re still making a 100 percent markup 05:00 on it and I mean it’s and you don’t have 05:02 to do their work that’s my point 05:03 and so that’s why this is such a 05:04 powerful strategy because it gets 05:06 results it gets results very quickly 05:08 without you having to do the work you 05:10 can do at the very minimum a hundred 05:12 percent markup so if you sell in this 05:15 case even on the low end very 05:17 conservative if you were to buy the 05:18 course for 300 bucks and you were to 05:20 sell it the press releases to clients 05:22 for 300 bucks and you’re paying 150 on 05:24 the high end right for a press release 05:26 and writing then you’re you only need to 05:28 sell two and you’ve recovered your 05:30 investment and anything on top of that 05:32 is now gravy and again he’s just going 05:34 to teach you a method that you can do 05:36 repeatable over and over and over again 05:37 very very simple to do so you may may I 05:42 interject anyone looking at this as a as 05:46 a cost is looking at this wrong probably 05:50 not right word yeah yeah if you’re 05:53 saying oh my god I have to spend $300 05:56 you’re looking at this wrong because 05:59 what this is this is a way for you to go 06:02 to your client and say I’m gonna get 06:03 your results that’s it 06:07 pitch servers are you going together 06:09 well we are going to do whatever you 06:11 pitch it however you know you’re going 06:14 to do personally says part of my 06:16 strategy is going to be getting your 06:18 name out there getting your name in it 06:20 into new sites and and and and several 06:25 new sites and local sites will pick it 06:26 up and and it’s going to get your 06:28 exposure so that’s a big selling point 06:31 icky to get that name out there right so 06:34 what you’re actually doing is you’re 06:38 selling results you’re not 06:41 making and it sounded expensive it’s not 06:44 a cause to you because it’s going to pay 06:47 it for itself I mean over and over and 06:50 over again once you once you implement 06:53 the strategy because you can sell it to 06:55 every client every client needs a press 06:57 release for whatever reason I mean even 07:00 if even if there’s no reason you can 07:02 make up a reason for a press release get 07:05 it out there because the idea is to get 07:07 the client in the three-pack you get 07:09 results you get them phone calls they’re 07:11 going to be happy now now that you’ve 07:12 provided results you can you then become 07:16 oh wow this person is really an expert 07:20 in the matter in getting traffic and so 07:23 now what you have is you’ve position 07:26 yourself as an authority in your client 07:29 eyes and now you can upsell you can 07:31 upsell a whatever service you want and I 07:34 guarantee you that nine out of ten the 07:37 client will go for whatever you 07:39 recommend at a markup of course and you 07:41 don’t have to do it because search space 07:43 our parent was not our parent company 07:46 but our partners who provide all of 07:49 these Dunphy’s services will do it for 07:52 you and all you have to do is mark it up 07:53 you don’t have to do anything is its 07:58 hand soft SEO we will take care of 08:01 everything all you have to do is sell it 08:03 how simple is that 08:06 yes sir yeah definitely oh yeah all 08:10 right David Sprague I 10:05 don’t know if you can still get that you 10:07 probably can he always has like a back 10:09 door link somewhere you could even 10:11 probably look at lead kahuna dot-com 10:14 slash new that might even give you an 10:16 option to buy it there I know a lot of 10:18 his products have that also I’m using 10:21 leads recon and leads recon is a tool 10:24 developed by Ted Chen who’s the 10:25 mastermind behind power suggest Pro our 10:28 favorite keyword tool of all time and so 10:31 it’s a solid product leads recon it’s 10:33 simple which is nice because it just 10:35 basically pulls back the data that 10:38 you’re gonna need and it doesn’t rather 10:39 quickly so leads recon is also a really 10:42 good tool Adam I don’t know if you could 10:43 find a link for that I tried to but I 10:45 couldn’t 10:45 yeah it’s not open right now but I was 10:48 talking to him when we were working out 10:49 the deal for everyone to get the 10:51 discount on power suggest Pro couple days ago or 12:27 whatever I went and looked and you’re 12:30 right the semantic WP themes com that 12:32 was Kevin paulie’s website that he where 12:34 he sold those semantic WordPress themes 12:36 and apparently that domain is expired so 12:41 yeah I’d I don’t know I guess I could 12:44 contact Matt D’Cruz and find out if 12:46 they’re still selling that I’m not 100% 12:49 sure because remember they kind of all 12:51 split up recently within the last you 12:53 know six or eight months or something 12:55 like that so it’s not the same group as 12:57 it was before not all the members of 12:59 network empower all the like they’re 13:00 kind of switched around so I don’t know 13:03 if that’s still available or not I could 13:05 find out I’m gonna make a note of that 13:06 right now and I’ll have to ping you back 13:09 Jeff alright in bid theme it was a good 13:17 theme I’ve used it quite a bit for video 13:20 video marketing sites 13:22 video broadcasting sites that’s 13:23 specifically what I used it for so for 13:26 example when I was creating a whole lot 13:28 of like I had a whole lot of PB NS that 13:30 I decided not to use his PB ends anymore 13:32 because they were never themed correctly 13:34 like they were the old school style PB 13:35 ends like before Google really started 13:37 cracking down on that stuff so I turned 13:39 a lot of those into just what I called 13:40 video broadcasting sites were 13:41 essentially syndication points for 13:43 YouTube videos and and the pimping 13:46 themes really good for that because it 13:47 was marked up like semantically that’s 13:49 what you know semantic WordPress themes 13:50 as the name denotes so anyways you know 13:55 I’ll reach out and see if I can find out 13:57 about it but in the meantime you asked 14:00 about the pin let’s see there was 14:01 another one the pin board theme by 14:04 themify yeah I’ve used that as well in 14:06 fact let’s just go take a look at that 14:08 it wasn’t quite as good as as far as 14:11 like because it wasn’t marked up at 14:12 least at the time the last time I used 14:14 it it wasn’t marked it didn’t have 14:17 semantic markup like and then I doubt 14:19 that it probably does now but it was 14:21 still a good theme for like a video 14:23 video site or if you’re doing I like a 14:25 heavy image site either one is good 14:27 because the kind of they kind of mimic 14:28 like the pin Pinterest right and so 14:32 those are great for like images or 14:34 thumbnail images if you’re doing videos 14:36 or if you’re just doing flat out as some 14:38 image based stuff okay and yeah I’ve 14:40 actually used this before and it’s not a 14:41 bad theme again the only reason why I 14:43 preferred the other one was because it 14:45 was marked up with semantic markup okay 14:48 so there you go but you can also 14:50 accomplish using you know plugins there 14:54 there are some like video sitemap 14:56 plugins out there there’s the Yoast 14:58 add-on if you’re using Yoast SEO plug-in 15:00 I don’t recommend that though but there 15:02 there’s also some other video sitemap 15:03 plugins that you can add to a theme like 15:05 that the pinboard theme by themify which 15:08 will help to markup like it’ll give you 15:10 a video sitemap which will have the 15:12 structured data markup in it so that you 15:14 can submit that to search console and 15:15 you can actually still get your video 15:17 thumbnail images to show in the search 15:19 results which I thought they’d gone and 15:21 done away with that but if it’s marked 15:22 up properly it will it will show in fact 15:25 just to show you guys this is quite 15:27 interesting we were looking at the 15:30 mastermind like a couple weeks ago Marco 15:33 and I were on our mat semantic mastery 15:35 mastermind 15:36 and we were doing a some discussion 15:39 about our YS tactics and some local SEO 15:42 stuff and I brought up at Virginia SEO 15:47 example again and take a look at this 15:49 which is crazy guys oh wow he put 15:51 somebody pushed wordpress.com from 15:54 number two to number three 15:56 look at that anyways this is a wordpress 15:58 compost guys and it’s got a video 16:01 thumbnail image showing you see that 16:02 you’re not cool and guys I didn’t do any 16:05 markup on this at all again this has 16:07 been like this now for at least two 16:09 weeks maybe even a month or three weeks 16:11 I think anyways what’s really cool about 16:14 is that’s a video thumbnail image 16:15 showing but it’s a wordpress.com post 16:18 URL you see that and I didn’t do any 16:21 markup this just happened like and it 16:23 was it’s been like this for you know 16:25 near three years it’s been just the 16:28 regular WordPress you know post metadata 16:31 here it didn’t have the thumbnail image 16:33 is what I’m saying 16:33 and within the last month or so this has 16:35 popped up with this thumbnail image and 16:37 it’s been there for at least three weeks 16:38 now and it’s I don’t know 17:19 about social share plugins I don’t 17:21 really mess with those much crap I can’t 17:24 remember the one that I would typically 17:28 use when I did add them I don’t really 17:30 most themes now have that social share 17:32 of stuff can you know integrate it right 17:34 within the theme itself so I don’t 17:35 really use the plugins for that anymore 17:37 I can’t I think it side and that kind of stuff I would use 17:48 one of those 17:49 yet when I used 17:50 to use those plugins I don’t anymore 17:51 because like I said most themes have 17:53 that integrated I use thrive themes a 17:55 lot now I want to do in WordPress stuff 17:57 author box plug-in again most themes 18:00 modern themes are gonna have that kind 18:02 of functionality built in if they do not 18:03 then this is the one that I used to use 18:05 star box which it’s by squirrely CEO 18:09 they’ve got a really it’s a really good 18:11 author box plug-in with some really cool 18:13 you can see how it looks right here and 18:15 you don’t need the pro version by the 18:16 way you can get away with just using the 18:17 free version but I liked it because that 18:19 you can add all a whole bunch of 18:20 different kinds of social links in there 18:21 which is really really good right for 18:24 increasing authority for the an author 18:26 profile so it’s called star box again 18:29 they got a free version so check that 18:30 out I use a simple author box okay as a 18:36 plugin and it works really well there 18:40 you go mr. Roxanne’s up she says hi and 18:43 thank you in advance two things please 18:44 I’ve gotten conflicting information in 18:45 the past and need you to once and for 18:47 all clarify please is it true that 18:48 Google only allows videos in the main 18:50 Google search for certain niches and 18:52 keywords not well there there’s some 18:58 truth to that let me finish the question 18:59 first so if you find a keyword search 19:01 that does not have a video on the first 19:03 page you should move on to another term 19:04 because Google is not allowing video for 19:06 that term no that is incorrect here’s 19:08 the thing guys there are certain 19:10 categories of search queries right that 19:13 will that are more that will show more 19:17 videos than others so for example 19:20 informational queries like how-to 19:22 queries and things like that are 19:24 obviously poised for videos right there 19:27 they’re prime to show videos that’s why 19:29 if you search any sorta type of like how 19:31 to keyword you’re gonna see a bunch of 19:34 videos on page one but then more like 19:37 commercial type terms a lot of the times 19:39 like transactional terms sometimes it 19:41 depends on the industry right and in the 19:43 specific search phrase itself but some 19:45 of those will they just make it it they 19:48 don’t videos aren’t supposed to be one 19:51 of the things that would typically come 19:53 up for that type of a search query so 19:55 Google doesn’t promote those to the 19:57 first page as readily or as easily or as 19:59 quickly as it would on some of the other 20:02 types of keyword search 20:03 categories that would show videos that 20:05 are friendly to videos if that makes 20:07 sense so it but just looking at assert 20:11 that the the first page of Google for a 20:13 particular search query and not seeing a 20:15 video on there doesn’t mean don’t 20:16 attempt it because first of all what 20:18 happens if nobody’s attempted it in the 20:20 past you’d never know right I mean my 20:22 point is even or even if somebody’s 20:23 attempted it in the past but they had 20:25 they didn’t know what they were doing 20:26 and they had crummmy SEO right so for 20:28 example if you’ve done a search on a 20:30 keyword and you click and you see on 20:32 page two there’s a video or page three 20:34 there’s a video where you go to the 20:35 videos vertical tab right the vertical 20:37 search for videos and you click and you 20:39 see that yes somebody’s optimized for 20:41 your specific keyword but maybe they 20:43 just had a really crappy video that 20:45 wasn’t optimized well they didn’t know 20:46 what they were doing and even if you go 20:48 research the video and it was optimized 20:49 well maybe they didn’t have syndication 20:51 networks they weren’t doing embeds they 20:53 weren’t sending social signals or views 20:55 and engagement to it things like that so 20:57 there’s a number of reasons why that 20:59 video might not be ranking and it 21:00 doesn’t mean that it’s that Google just 21:02 won’t rank it because it’s that 21:03 particular type of a search query right 21:05 that that may be an indication but you 21:08 can’t go off i’ve ranked videos many 21:10 times for search queries that other 21:11 people have attempted to but they’re 21:13 paid their videos we’re on page 2 or 21:15 page 3 and i’ve been able to rank on 21:16 page 1 just because I had a better 21:17 method a better process does that make 21:19 sense 21:20 however there like I said there are 21:23 certain search queries where Google just 21:25 does not like to promote a video to page 21:26 1 and particularly I’ve had issues with 21:29 that like I’ll give you a specific 21:31 example with real estate terms for 21:34 targeting like general terms like real 21:37 estate or realtor or real estate agent 21:40 Plus City those are incredibly difficult 21:43 to rank videos on page 1 for right now 21:46 ranking a video on page 1 for a specific 21:49 house number or a specific listing 21:51 number or something like that that’s 21:53 relatively easy but ranking for 21:55 something like realtor I’ll give you a 21:58 specific example because I have a real 22:00 estate broker broker a company was a 22:02 Remax brokerage firm or whatever that I 22:05 was doing video SEO services well just 22:08 various marketing services for in 22:10 Warrenton Virginia and that’s a rather 22:12 small town it’s not a really competitive 22:14 town but all of the the 22:16 the pay excuse me the results on page 22:19 one were obviously like long and foster 22:22 Remax Zillow Redfin century 21 like all 22:26 he’s super high authority incredibly age 22:29 like fifteen-year-old you know sites 22:32 websites so ranking a video on page one 22:35 for a general term like that I fought 22:38 for months and I did some really cool 22:40 things I did some press releases I was 22:42 working with newswire dotnet at that 22:44 time and newswire dotnet would have 22:47 could would allow a video embed and you 22:49 could even contact support and do a live 22:51 event so like a Google hangout on air or 22:53 YouTube live event at the time it was a 22:55 Google hangout on air and we could embed 22:57 that into the press release and have the 22:59 and it was a scheduled live event or a a 23:02 scheduled hangout on air which is now 23:04 like a YouTube live event anyways we had 23:07 it scheduled to for the live event to go 23:09 live the same time the press release was 23:11 distributed right was was picked up and 23:13 syndicated to all the the the the press 23:16 wires the you know cables press cables 23:18 they call him anyways that worked like I 23:21 was able to force the video on the page 23:23 one that way like as soon as the press 23:25 release went live and the in the Google 23:28 hangout the schedule would hangout on 23:29 air one live we got to page one and it 23:32 but it only lasted like three days until 23:34 it’s an it got pushed back to position 23:37 11 so it was the top of page two and no 23:40 matter what I did occasionally like and 23:42 I worked on it for three freaking months 23:43 and occasionally I would get it to two 23:46 to group pop past 11:00 and get on the 23:50 page one and it would you know maybe 23:51 position 10 maybe position 9 but it 23:54 would last for only a day or two and in 23:55 boom right back to a position 11 or 23:57 position 12 so it was always hovering 23:59 right at the top of page 2 and very it 24:01 would never stay on page 1 that’s when I 24:03 determined those are one of those types 24:04 of queries that are just incredibly 24:06 difficult to rank for and so I said I’m 24:08 not gonna I’m not going through this 24:09 anymore it’s not worth it 24:11 in which case that’s when you start 24:12 targeting stuff that is a little bit 24:14 easier so again to answer your question 24:16 Roxanne just because a video is not on 24:18 page one doesn’t mean it can’t be done 24:19 there are certain queries that Google 24:21 just will not like to promote a video to 24:24 page one but it can still be done you 24:26 can force it but how long will it stick 24:28 and that’s why I typically when I want 24:30 I realized that I’m a I’ve come up to uh 24:33 you know I’ve come across one of those 24:36 types of circumstances then I just say 24:39 okay this is not the right approach let 24:42 me try something else either target 24:44 other keywords find a different angle or 24:46 use some sort of other methods that will 24:49 rank on page one because it’s difficult 24:51 to do with the video does anybody want 24:53 to comment on that yeah absolutely we 24:57 ran into the the same problem and it’s 25:01 not really worth the effort you can rank 25:03 on the first page for any keyword any 25:07 niche but rankbrain now is is smart 25:12 enough and quick enough that it will 25:15 filter out your video because it knows 25:17 that it’s not supposed to be ranking 25:20 whether it’s in the first page or in the 25:23 niche and we found that we found that 25:25 after doing test payday loan Rob and I 25:28 would did that and we saw it 25:29 I mean disappear right before our eyes 25:32 but within 10 15 20 seconds the it would 25:36 rank we would rank it in minutes 25:38 sometimes even even less than a minute 25:41 on the first page but the the Google 25:45 filter would take over know the rank 25:48 brain would come in and filter it out 25:50 and get rid of it so why go through all 25:52 that trouble of trying to rank a video 25:55 number one for 30 seconds absolutely 25:59 makes no sense so find something where 26:01 it’ll stick you know but maybe in the 26:04 niche something will stick like Bradley 26:06 said page 2 page 3 you might be able to 26:09 push it to page 1 I mean there’s a 26:12 reason why those videos are on page 2 26:13 page 3 sometimes it’s because they just 26:16 didn’t know what they’re doing so it 26:18 might be worth of trying but if you’re 26:22 just at it for weeks and wheat and it 26:25 goes to number one it comes back goes to 26:27 number one comes back move on to 26:29 something else right long because it’s 26:32 not really worth it you can do a whole 26:33 lot more with with other tools that you 26:36 have at your disposal especially if 26:38 you’re part of Samantha master you where 26:40 we give you all kinds of different ways 26:42 to use Google 26:44 and to ranking Google and to get results 26:46 yeah and then the other part of that is 26:48 um you know when guys you remember SEO 26:51 is not the be-all end-all guys you know 26:53 when you come across a situation like 26:55 that where you’re fighting something to 26:56 try to rank it for weeks go the 26:58 pay-per-click or Hawkeyes the paid route 27:00 I mean you can you can still generate a 27:02 ton of traffic that way and even like 27:03 YouTube traffic is you know it’s still 27:05 incredibly inexpensive at the moment so 27:07 you can generate traffic right within 27:09 YouTube that way if you know how to set 27:10 up targeting Roxanne the semantic 27:12 mastery have a course or training to 27:14 focus on video marketing exclusively or 27:15 mostly um no not really I mean we we’ve 27:19 had some stuff in the past but some of 27:21 that stuff is dated we are going our 27:24 next module and the mastermind training 27:25 is going to be the video marketing 27:27 module which will probably begin around 27:29 the first week of May because we’re in 27:32 the prospecting module right now so I 27:34 mean at that point it’s like somebody’s cell phone or 28:37 a live phone where people can answer the 28:38 phone read or receive texts for with 28:40 like confirmation codes and stuff then I 28:42 don’t know I don’t know how to do that 28:44 that seems kind of silly to me to have a 28:47 business line going directly to a 28:50 voicemail or an answering machine unless 28:51 it was a redirect phone number I’ve got 28:53 these like results in advanced lead-gen 29:03 assets set up that I don’t have service 29:05 providers in place for yet but I’m 29:07 generating leads so I want to be able to 29:09 show analytics and capture potentially 29:12 leads not even necessarily so the leads 29:14 get serviced but just so that I have a 29:16 history to show when I’m talking with a 29:18 service provider a prospective service 29:21 provider to say hey look this is how 29:23 many leads I’ve gotten from this these 29:24 assets in the last you know seven days 29:26 or whatever but those are all forwarding 29:29 phone numbers that go that are forwarded 29:31 to a voicemail box so I can redirect 29:34 that phone at any time if I was gonna be 29:36 building citations then I could just 29:38 redirect it to my cell and of all 32:57 like when I have a conversation with a 32:58 prospective client guys one of the 33:00 things I ask is what is your marketing 33:03 budget or what is you what are you 33:04 currently spending on marketing to 33:06 generate leads for your business and I 33:09 asked that question and if I get any 33:10 pushback then they’re not somebody I 33:13 want to continue talking with right 33:14 because it’s my job as a consultant to 33:16 to ask those kind of questions to 33:19 determine you know how serious they are 33:21 about their business and also to see 33:23 kind of where their heads at about 33:24 like how do they view marketing is an 33:26 expense or is it an investment right 33:29 marketing should be an investment guys 33:30 it should provide a return and that’s an 33:32 investment not an expense an expense is 33:34 something that you just you know it’s a 33:36 liability you know it’s just money going 33:37 out but marketing should should provide 33:40 a return and so when I talk to somebody 33:42 and they give me a little push back on 33:44 when I ask them what their marketing 33:45 budget is or what they’re currently 33:46 spending on marketing and to generate 33:48 leads online that kind of stuff if they 33:50 don’t give me a good answer then a lot 33:52 of the times I’ll try to kill kill the 33:54 conversation and move on because I 33:55 realize that they’re gonna be difficult 33:57 to work with I’m not saying that’s what 33:58 you’re dealing with 33:59 Nigel well what I would ask is you know 34:01 you say they’re currently spending $500 34:03 a month but 250 of that is going to 34:05 AdWords so really they’re only got 250 34:07 dollars a month in budget right well I’d 34:09 say you could go in there and clean 34:10 house if you can get them some results 34:11 so like this is one where you lead with 34:13 value and I may be reading between the 34:15 lines but I mean it looks like they’re a 34:17 little you know wary because there any 34:19 sentence of money and not getting 34:20 results and they’ve got it backwards 34:22 paying 500 bucks for social posting yeah 34:24 right what’s crazy and then if you could 34:27 switch that around even get them to go 34:29 500 ads 250 you know something else you 34:32 could get some really quick results and 34:33 then upsell them on a bunch of other 34:34 stuff all that Bradley and Marco speak 34:36 to like the tactics but as far as the 34:38 strategy on this it looks like you could 34:39 come in here and just get some 34:41 low-hanging fruit for them real quick 34:43 yeah and so that’s you know when I would 34:46 find out first of all what they’re 34:48 comfortable in spending so that’s one of 34:51 the questions I would ask so then you 34:53 can develop and if by the way if 34:55 somebody says you know well why do you 34:56 need to know that you say look I’m going 34:59 to customize a proposal for you that’s 35:01 gonna work for your business and I need 35:02 to know what you’re you know what your 35:04 budget is I need to know what your 35:05 threshold is so that way I can design a 35:07 proposal that’s gonna work guys trying 35:10 to design a proposal when you don’t know 35:12 what the client is even willing to spend 35:14 is incredibly difficult because you’re 35:16 gonna you’re gonna you’re gonna sweat 35:18 your decision about what the proposal is 35:21 you’re always going to wonder am I am I 35:23 asking too much am I asking too little 35:25 you you am I gonna scare them away with 35:27 this proposal because it’s you know it’s 35:29 it’s way too it’s way above and beyond 35:31 what they’re willing to spend you don’t 35:32 know any of that and it’ll drive you 35:34 crazy because you’ll submit the proposal 35:36 and then you’ll sit up at night thinking 35:38 about it 35:38 sleep wondering waiting for a reply and 35:40 then you’ll be thinking oh man maybe I 35:42 need to drop the price in blah blah blah 35:43 and you have no idea and so that’s why I 35:45 asked those questions by the way Nigel 35:47 the best book I think I’ve ever read for 35:50 like how to do these kind of sales when 35:52 you’re when you’re when you’re 35:53 conversing with a prospect and asking 35:55 these questions called spin selling it’s 35:58 great it’s a fabulous book a situation 36:00 problem something something it’s spin as 36:04 an acronym anyways check it out it’s a 36:06 great book it’s how I learned how to 36:07 talk to prospects and ask them questions 36:09 okay so as far as the actual services 36:13 once you understand what the budget is 36:15 then you can develop a plan around that 36:17 as far as arbitrage doing services you 36:20 know we have our standard operating 36:21 procedure Nigel which I’m sure you’re 36:23 aware of it’s pretty much outlined in 36:24 our battle plan which by the way about a 36:26 plan to dough is coming out soon next 36:29 month I think you know we talk about the 36:32 the foundational stuff syndication 36:34 networks trying to always sell that 36:36 done-for-you 36:38 drive stack you know that’s something I 36:39 talk about I don’t tell them hey it’s a 36:41 Google Drive stack like I mean I I try 36:43 to explain it in layman’s terms 36:44 but now press releases are standard 36:46 operating procedure and so like and that 36:49 the reason about press releases are 36:50 standard operating procedures because 36:52 it’s like almost instant results you 36:54 combine that with a drive stack and you 36:56 can like literally crush it for them you 36:58 could probably get them results within 37:00 30 days most likely you could and then 37:03 you know that way you can show them 37:05 results very very quickly if you want to 37:07 try to show them results upfront do what 37:09 I do like for example if this is a 37:11 serious conversation you’re having with 37:13 them and you feel really good about it 37:15 and you just need to show them something 37:17 to provide proof that you can provide 37:18 results do what I do 37:20 rank some videos for them do it for free 37:23 some people are gonna say it’ll do stuff 37:25 for free I look that’s how I secure 37:27 deals guys I do free work and it’s 37:29 usually just video stuff because it’s 37:30 easy to do I can get wrapped results 37:32 very quickly and then I can show them 37:34 tangible results and say look I did this 37:36 for you too just to show you that I know 37:39 what I’m doing and that I can provide 37:40 results to earn your business I did this 37:43 to earn your business now can we talk 37:44 and then that’s and it works really 37:47 really well guys and video stuff is a 37:49 great foot in the door that’s how I use 37:50 it so I would recommend 37:52 you do that and as far as arbitrage 37:53 stuff you know a good rule of thumb is 37:56 to try to mark stuff up a hundred 37:57 percent so you double it because even if 38:00 right now you’re submitting in you know 38:02 you’re buying stuff from lot like for 38:03 example I just mentioned this earlier 38:05 press releases you can buy press 38:06 releases from subspace done for you 38:08 written everything for 150 bucks tops if 38:11 you buy in the press release Plus right 38:13 which is the the it’s got four hundred 38:16 and fifty syndication points you can 38:17 embed Maps you can embed videos all of 38:19 that that’s arcs are more our our 38:21 premium service press release press 150 38:23 bucks roughly you can sell it for 300 38:25 hundred percent markup so you pocket a 38:28 hundred bucks just a slide overhead 38:29 right you’ve got operating expenses if 38:31 you have a VA which handles your client 38:33 fulfillment which you should maybe not 38:35 not right away Nigel but very soon as 38:37 you start to scale your business use 38:38 just I or VA so you’re gonna cut into 38:40 that hundred percent markup a little bit 38:42 to cover your overhead to cover your 38:43 labor costs things like that so my point 38:46 is always try to mark stuff up at least 38:48 a hundred percent in my opinion you guys 38:50 want to comment on that you some long 38:52 questions today no not I think that’s 38:58 good that yeah okay so again I would 39:01 start with the things that are gonna 39:02 provide results very quickly like 39:03 ranking a video that like for free to 39:07 get them to like at least to accept an 39:09 offer and in which you could always do 39:11 guys and I’ve done this in the past too 39:12 is provide like a like a a proposal that 39:16 says that starts off small with just a 39:19 couple of services to keep their 39:21 expenses low like the cost low the point 39:23 of entry low and in but in the proposal 39:26 state like at the end of 60 days we’re 39:30 going to revisit this because here if if 39:32 I can provide you results like I expect 39:35 to between now and 60-day and I’m just 39:37 users because 60 days is the number it 39:39 could be 30 days it could be 90 days it 39:40 could be whatever but let’s say I expect 39:42 to be able to provide results for you on 39:44 this level of proposal within sixty days 39:46 and if I do so then I would recommend at 39:49 the 60 day point that now we upgrade to 39:51 and in that’s when you start adding on 39:53 additional services you upgrade them to 39:55 fort for even more because you’ve now 39:57 proved to them so instead of like you 40:00 know blowing your load so to speak all 40:02 at one time on the front end proposal 40:05 you 40:05 do like a graduated like proof let me 40:08 show you proof type proposal that kind 40:11 of increases as more and more results 40:14 come in that way you’re laying the 40:16 groundwork right upfront for what you’re 40:18 going to be asking of them as far as an 40:21 investment in the marketing campaign 40:23 going forward for like the next six 40:25 months or twelve months so that’s it’s 40:27 something that I’ve done it works really 40:28 really well okay by the way the include the locations the 42:50 name is the slug okay and guys I always 42:54 try to include the state abbreviation if 42:57 well it depends it depends on how broad 42:59 your site’s gonna be if it’s only gonna 43:00 like cuz best local plumber comm right 43:03 that could be like a that could be 43:05 nationwide so to speak so remember 43:07 there’s a lot of cities that are in more 43:08 than one state and so just keep that in 43:11 mind if you plan on building a big site 43:13 with it covers a lot of different areas 43:15 then I would include the state modifier 43:17 as well or you could even silo if you’re 43:20 doing complex silo you could create silos 43:23 state-by-state right so you’d have 43:25 basically 50 silos if you’re gonna do 43:27 United States and in each each state 43:30 silo would have you know city pages 43:32 within it or city posts depending on how 43:34 you develop it out okay or you could 43:37 even do with a complex silo structure 43:38 this can get a bit complicated but you 43:41 could do like a state and in a county 43:44 and in which would be so your top-level 43:47 categories would be state your 43:48 subcategories would be counties and then 43:51 your posts would be cities right or if 43:54 you’re just doing a statewide site then 43:56 you could do a state like you could do 43:59 counties as your top-level category and 44:01 then you could have just a simple silo 44:04 structure with posts that are city posts 44:05 or you could get even more granular and 44:08 do top-level categories as counties and 44:10 then have cities as your sub categories 44:14 and then you could actually have like 44:15 supporting posts that cover like various 44:17 localities within a particular City 44:20 boroughs districts neighborhoods things 44:22 like that so it really just depends on 44:24 how complicated you want to get and how 44:25 much competition you’re up against as to 44:27 how you’re going to structure that site 44:28 as far as the URL structure to try to 44:30 keep it short and succinct so what 44:33 I always try to do if if I can add to 44:35 that just a little bit you know how 44:37 we’re always testing 44:39 I mean constantly testing and during one 44:42 of my tests it actually came up not only 44:46 is is the Google URL submitter throttled 44:49 so that it does it I think you’re 44:51 allowed I think it’s ten per day now ten 44:55 URLs per account per day per yeah per 45:01 gmail account per day to use the URL 45:03 submitter signed in so you don’t trigger 45:06 the reCAPTCHA but but anyway this type 45:11 of URL setup but you include the keyword 45:15 in the URL multiple times like the same 45:18 on this has plumber or plumber and some 45:20 people will go like one more plumber in 45:24 there it’s not indexing as well as if 45:28 you keep the URL the way Bradley just 45:30 suggested yeah and this is this this is 45:33 in theory we tested it and it was we 45:37 were doing something else and it just so 45:39 happened that anytime we submitted a URL 45:42 with this type of structure with the 45:44 keyword multiple multiple times 45:46 it just wasn’t indexing we changed the 45:49 URL structure and it indexed and so you 45:54 know maybe it’s a I don’t know Sarah 45:58 serendipity I don’t know what what it was but we do know and we tried 46:04 it multiple times over over a few weeks 46:07 it was that we tried this and we it just 46:10 we just couldn’t get it to index as well 46:14 as if you don’t include the keyword 46:16 multiple time so just a suggestion it 46:18 could be that you get away with it and 46:20 it’s perfectly fine I found that they 46:24 just don’t index as well yeah just 46:26 something to keep in mind thanks Marco 46:29 next was when setting up profiles with 46:31 local business directories for a locally 46:32 gents ID is it necessary to use a proxy 46:34 with local IP address location to 46:36 convince Google that they’re genuine now 46:38 Gordon 46:38 um because Google knows that a lot of 46:41 people aren’t going to build their own 46:42 citations they’re gonna hire services to 46:44 do it so I don’t 46:46 that to be required at all where I do 46:49 find that maybe to be necessary as if 46:51 you’re doing review posting then you 46:54 kinda want the IPS to be local to the 46:57 businesses that you’re reviewing 46:59 otherwise some of them top will get 47:01 filtered out Yelp Yelp will filter reviews 47:03 out anyways unless you pay them their 47:04 extortion artists so it but also any 47:07 reviews submitted via like desktops most 47:10 of those get filtered out the only way 47:12 really to get stuff to stick and Yelp is 47:14 either be a paying advertiser or to have 47:17 reviews submitted via mobile devices 47:19 right that’s that but but again like 47:21 even Google listings I know people’s 47:23 post reviews will can get posted even 47:26 without the IP being local I know that 47:28 because I use some spam tools that will 47:30 do that for me so or some spam services 47:33 really so anyways that’s not necessary 47:36 if number three if you get a backlink 47:37 from an authority site with huge di + TF 47:39 metrics to an inner page of a lead gen 47:42 site can you place say ten internal 47:43 links at the bottom of the page to ten 47:45 other enter pages to distribute the SEO 47:46 juice to those pages or does the entire 47:48 site benefit from that one Authority 47:49 backlink without any internal linking 47:51 well Gordon I wouldn’t recommend that 47:53 you would split like that one link like 47:55 put a bunch of ten internal links to ten 47:58 other posts or pages on that site unless 48:00 it was within the same silo again if 48:02 you’re using silo structure or 48:03 architecture on your site then if you’ve 48:06 got a really powerful link pointing to a 48:08 post or a page with on your site if 48:11 that’s in a silo you could inter link 48:14 from that page or post to other pages or 48:17 posts within that same silo and that 48:20 would be very powerful but it’s not 48:21 necessary if you’ve got your internal 48:23 linking structure done correctly through 48:25 your your pages and posts within your 48:27 silos anyways it shouldn’t matter 48:29 because you should have it all of the 48:33 link equity the link flow should be all 48:35 set up correctly because your internal 48:37 linking structure was already set 48:39 correctly if that makes sense 48:40 the point is network Empire they used to 48:42 call this buoyancy right but buoyancy 48:46 because what with a silo structure with 48:48 your internal linking if you do it 48:49 correctly then if you inject link equity 48:53 or SEO juice whatever you will link 48:55 juice whatever you want to call it at 48:56 any point in the silo it’s going to 48:59 improve 49:00 the overall authority and relevancy of 49:03 the entire silo which is why it’s called 49:05 buoyancy because it helps it to float to 49:07 float higher up in the search rankings 49:09 of the search results that make sense so 49:11 if you’ve got your if you’re doing a 49:12 silo structure and you have your 49:14 internal linking correct done properly 49:16 then a link to any point within that 49:18 particular silo should make the entire 49:21 silo rise get better results right it 49:24 should improve the rankings of it okay 49:27 so but you know again I wouldn’t cross 49:29 post to distribute to other silos 49:31 because then you you’re actually 49:33 bleeding the theme of a particular silo 49:34 and if you don’t have any silos on the 49:37 site if it’s just what they call a flat 49:38 site then I would probably do something 49:41 like put a link contextual link like to 49:44 the homepage or to a you know a top 49:47 level silo or category page or something 49:49 like well in this case without a silo I 49:51 would only point like an internal link 49:53 to the pages that are gonna generate the 49:55 most traffic that makes sense okay 49:59 Adrian hi guys I’ve been trying to sign 50:01 up for multiple to expired web 2.0 50:03 accounts that have been really struck 50:04 and have been really struggling I tried 50:06 something called storm proxies which had 50:07 proxies that changed IP every three 50:09 minutes but they were really slow so I 50:11 cancelled do you know of a quick way to 50:12 sign up to multiple counts thanks very 50:13 much yeah Adrian I buy them honestly I 50:17 just buy all my accounts now and 50:19 unfortunately I don’t you know I don’t 50:21 use any tools to generate accounts 50:23 because of that very reason they seem to 50:25 just get suspended so quickly when you 50:27 use automated stuff so I just go to 50:28 providers now and buy my accounts you 50:33 know and we’ve also got our own spam 50:35 team or link building team that will you 50:38 know has the capability of creating 50:39 accounts and stuff to plus you know like 50:41 all the stuff that we create via our 50:43 syndication networks for them from 50:45 inside a subspace they’ve done for you 50:46 syndication networks those are all built 50:48 created manually we as proxies or or in 50:52 those most of those our builders are in 50:54 the Philippines and so they go out and 50:56 actually buy SIM cards and a register 50:58 and phone verify accounts that way so I 51:01 would just recommend that you find a 51:02 good provider and buy your accounts 51:04 Adrian and save yourself the headache 51:05 and the hassle of having to do that okay 51:09 we got a couple providers that we 51:11 typically mention guys and if anybody 51:14 as providers you’re certainly welcome to 51:16 post those on the page I don’t get any 51:18 affiliate Commission for this I just do 51:20 it because these are the providers that 51:21 I use let me just grab one more real 51:23 quick while you’re looking for those if 51:26 he says he’s trying to sign up for 51:28 multiple expired web 2.0 counts he could 51:31 always go the ghost browser or browse 51:35 your way he could go that route with 51:38 with dynamic acquired Wendigos yeah okay 51:42 instead of dynamic proxies you’ll have 51:46 to pay a little bit more but you’re not 51:49 trying to get rid of the footprint when 51:51 you sign in through these dynamic 51:53 proxies what you’re trying to do is 51:55 actually leave all the cookies and 51:57 browsing history and everything else so 51:59 that you can go into those expired 52:01 accounts now of course if you’re trying 52:03 to manage hundreds you shouldn’t be 52:06 doing it yourself you should have 52:08 someone doing it for you but that would 52:09 be another way that you could do it yeah 52:12 I’m sorry I missed the part about the 52:15 expired stuff yeah okay so if you’re 52:17 gonna if you’re gonna find better 52:19 proxies for that what I would recommend 52:20 first of all is you get dedicated 52:22 proxies because that might be part of 52:24 the problem like I know storm proxies 52:26 are good but they’re supposed to be good 52:28 anyways God look at all these questions 52:30 man holy crap I’ll stick around for 52:33 about 10 more minutes beyond five 52:34 o’clock guys but that’s all I can do 52:36 anyways uh I would recommend like that 52:39 the providers that I use like four four 52:42 proxies and I have been for years now is 52:43 by proxies org or easy proxies those are 52:47 the two that I use and what I like about 52:49 easy proxies is you can get dedicated 52:51 proxies that are remain like permanent 52:53 they don’t refresh every thirty days 52:55 which is great for some stuff obviously 52:58 if the proxy burns out you can get them 53:00 replaced all you got to do is contact 53:01 support but uh right proxies org we get 53:06 proxies refreshed to every thirty days 53:07 and so if you’re gonna be doing a lot of 53:09 that kind of stuff where you’re trying 53:10 to expire register expired web twos and 53:12 you you have to do it manually first of 53:15 all I would recommend that as soon as 53:16 you figure out a way to do it 53:17 consistently that you create a process 53:20 doc and hire that out because you can 53:21 have a VA doing that for you for like 53:23 four dollars an hour 53:24 Adrian and your time is certainly worth 53:25 more than that but yeah I would 53:28 come in trying to just trying a 53:29 different proxy provider maybe okay real 53:32 quick for the rest of these so we can 53:33 get through them and also just so 53:35 everybody knows if you can’t really try 53:36 to limit it to one question because we 53:38 definitely get bogged then 54:37 I just add all the metadata as usual and 54:40 then upload the video directly in the 54:41 GMB dashboard okay and in it you know 54:44 it’s pretty cool you get your own share 54:46 URL for it so you can actually like use 54:49 that to use link spam and all kinds of 54:50 stuff so definitely check that out 54:53 as far as optimizing it there’s not 54:55 really much you can do other than 54:56 optimizing the file name and then 54:58 obviously the metadata so you can um you 55:00 know you can add a bunch of metadata to 55:02 it before you upload it that’s all you 55:03 can all do you use 55:31 them personally and it’s only because I 55:33 don’t like complicated tools and most 55:35 all link building tools I have a 55:38 learning curve and I do not have the 55:40 time to play with those tools 55:41 I can hire somebody to do it for me 55:43 however Peter Drewes tools are typically 55:45 very very simple now their interfaces 55:47 are simple and it’s just like step by 55:49 step 58:38 proposals trust your your gut feeling if 58:41 you go against it you’re gonna get 58:42 burned trust me all right 58:45 video ranked and ranked question do all 58:46 the videos and channel need to be in the 58:48 same general industry landscaping 58:49 roofing and paving etc or can they be 58:51 totally different like landscaping 58:53 optometrist computer repair or is it 58:55 better for the channels Authority and 58:56 rank ability if the videos and related 58:58 feels no you can have a channel that’s 59:00 broader as long as you silo the channel 59:03 using playlists Rick however you do get 59:07 better I’ve always found better results 59:08 by having a channel that’s tightly 59:10 themed ok so just so you understand you 59:14 can still do it with a more general 59:15 channel but just make sure that you’re 59:17 using playlists as a way to basically 59:20 silo out your channel that does work but 59:23 again I’ve always found better results 59:25 if I have a very tightly themed channel 59:27 so I prefer just to set up new channels 59:28 for each industry like here’s an example 59:32 of home improvement channel like us that 59:34 like a channel that is dedicated to home 59:37 improvement contractors for example if 59:39 you’re doing local stuff then that makes 59:41 sense right it makes sense to have like 59:42 an HVAC size oh right a category of silo 59:45 basically which is a playlist or 59:47 multiple playlists it makes sense to 59:49 have one for HVAC and once for 59:51 electricians one for plumbers and blah 59:53 blah blah because it’s overall a home 59:55 improvement or contractor type of 59:57 channel however I’ve found still I mean 60:02 that’s logical it makes sense but I’ve 60:03 still found those are still all related 60:05 fields right so that’s that’s that will 60:08 still 60:09 better than like which you mention here 60:11 with landscaping optometrist and 60:12 computer repair because those are kind 60:13 of like all over the place so you’re 60:16 gonna dilute the overall Authority or 60:18 relevancy of the channel itself because 60:20 you have multiple themes that makes 60:22 sense if you can have congruent themes 60:24 you can get better results or if you 60:26 tightly themed around a singular 60:28 industry you will get even better 60:30 results so make sense all right do that 60:35 yeah go ahead 60:36 just add a RT applies in YouTube also 60:39 activity relevance trust and authority 60:42 don’t break those try to try to keep 60:44 those and if you do that you’ll be 60:47 rewarded if you break it you’re gonna it is guys any 62:33 time I’m trying to do lead gen stuff 62:35 like I just like I just don’t even try 62:38 organic rankings anymore like I just 62:39 don’t care I just I always go directly 62:41 for the GMB stuff and try to ranking the 62:43 maps back and so if it requires me to go 62:45 out and get a bunch of pio boxes and use 62:47 a street address option that’s what I do 62:48 just because I always again I always 62:51 find the most the best results in 62:52 getting ranked in the mass pack for lead 62:54 gen for local like services so that’s 62:57 that’s what I try to do that’s all I try 62:59 to do I don’t care really much about the 63:01 organic listings don’t get me wrong I 63:02 tracked those two but my goal is not to 63:05 rank organically it’s to rank in the 63:06 maps pack if I rank into organically 63:09 then that’s great that’s just bonus 63:10 right that’s just more listings so yeah 63:12 I would say absolutely if you’re gonna 63:14 Jenny I would recommend it if you have can’t tell you that Sean I wish I could 63:35 if I knew like if like a set number 63:38 depending on like competition levels and 63:40 stuff then it would be incredibly easy 63:43 for me to just be able to tell you guys 63:44 hey just go get this mini embeds and 63:46 your rank I can’t tell you that I have 63:47 no idea what I recommend and this is the 63:49 same recommendation I always give is to 63:51 start off small start with something 63:53 like 50 embeds make sure that you’re 63:55 selecting secondary embeds make sure 63:57 you’re selecting the correct categories 63:58 so that they’re there and embedded in 64:01 the proper themed categories and then 64:04 rate wait 14 to 21 days make sure you’re 64:07 dripping those out over like a 2 7 to 14 64:09 day period and then go check your 64:11 results 14 to 21 days later and if you 64:14 you should see some movement if you need 64:16 more movement than you do it like 64:17 another 50 embeds or no you know 100 or 64:19 something like that I just always talk 64:21 about starting conservatively because 64:22 you’d be surprised at what kind of 64:23 results you can get from our network now 64:25 what this is a handful of embeds because 64:28 it’s it’s an age network now that’s 64:29 really tightly themed so again start 64:32 small and just keep adding as you need 64:34 to I 64:35 I wish I could give you just a formula 64:37 stuff can’t get into it 66:28 but you can do some incredibly cool 66:29 stuff with the GMB posts you can even 66:32 drive traffic to those posts through 66:34 like YouTube ads which is buying traffic 66:36 from YouTube the the proper approved way 66:40 right and you can you can send traffic 66:42 for incredibly cheap to Google posts and 66:44 things like that which would just show 66:46 activity on your GMB profile which will 66:48 help it to wreck 66:48 yeah well what we’re doing right now 66:51 starting out just so people know is 66:53 we’re using all of the free tools that 66:55 Google is 71:51 the wordpress.com domain that’s why if 71:53 you want to go out and build your own 71:55 WordPress sites to be used in 71:56 syndication networks you certainly can 71:58 but I would recommend that you try to 72:00 find domains that had you know we’re 72:02 themed similarly that had some Authority 72:05 I know I talked about metrics guys not 72:07 being the best thing that to build on 72:08 anymore but I would still try to get 72:10 something with some metric metrics that 72:12 was themed correctly alright URLs 72:14 question since you’re doing press 72:16 releases today any hints on you’re 73:51 doing review stuff which again is 73:52 covered in training one of the 73:54 strategies I use is every time a 73:56 business gets a new review it’s not 73:57 every time but I select a like for my 74:00 clients I select one of the reviews that 74:03 they received in the last thirty days or 74:05 if it’s a client some clients are doing 74:07 two per month two press releases per 74:08 month we select reviews that have been 74:11 posted within the last thirty days and 74:13 then we do publish a press release about 74:14 that review right and so the quote ends 74:17 up being the read that the the the quote 74:19 the review copy the copy the the the 74:22 text that was posted in the review so 74:25 again who what when where in a quote is 74:27 all you need and then the links that 74:28 you’re trying to promote and that’s all 74:30 you need the the the press release 74:32 services should write the press releases 74:34 and distribute them for you it’s not 74:35 going to cost you anything else other 74:36 than the cost of the press release and 74:38 the distribution and again places like 74:40 Serb space we provide the writing and 74:42 distribution all in one one package okay 74:46 she says I’m trying to I’m trying to 74:48 understand overall investment at the at 74:50 my end to purchase your training to be 74:51 able to execute so as far as overhead 74:53 cost for one site guys I can’t answer 74:55 that only because there’s too many 74:56 variables right depends on many many 74:59 many things the competition level of the 75:01 keyword depends on your website and how 75:03 its structured your Google my business 75:05 do you have a verified Google my 75:07 business problem that’s required by the 75:09 way it has to be a verified Google my 75:10 business property if you’re trying to 75:12 rank and if you’re trying to rank in the 75:13 three pack but you know even though I’ve 75:16 been able to get results with a single 75:18 landing page a one page click funnels 75:19 page didn’t really have any content on 75:21 it I wouldn’t recommend that you can 75:23 certainly get better results if you’ve 75:24 got a website that’s optimized well if 75:26 you’ve got a syndication network to 75:28 validate the entity if you’ve got a 75:30 drive stack you combine those three 75:32 things syndication networks drive stacks 75:35 Google my business profile and press 75:38 releases so four things you combine 75:40 those four things and it’s like there’s 75:42 pretty much nothing you shouldn’t be 75:43 able to rank 75:44 four right if you if you as long as the 75:47 site is built well and optimized well so 75:49 there’s a lot of variables there but 75:51 again I’ve mentioned this in the 75:52 training and even probably on the sales 75:54 page 80 percent of I had 80 percent 75:56 result success rate with getting into 75:59 the three pack within six press releases 76:01 published at the rate of one every two 76:03 weeks so 12 out of 15 properties that I 76:06 applied this to I was able to rank in 76:08 the three pack within twelve weeks tops 76:10 okay so you do the math whatever that 76:13 cost would be all right guys we’re way 76:16 over but there was a lot of questions 76:18 sorry I didn’t get to all of them guys I 76:19 really apologize but it is what it is we 76:21 had a busy busy day so we appreciate 76:23 everybody
