My personal thing, if you don’t mind me sharing <3, about König, while I know he has the potential to literally kill you without a second thought, I feel like he has a soft spot of children. Parents not so much, but he always spares the children. Now, for the bad behaved children I feel like he would give a scary talking to 👀

Because König feels very strongly about bullying, so if he heard a kid was bullying the other kid? Would come to their immediate rescue and shut the bully down harshly. For him, that’s a mercy, but he promises that if he ever hears word or sees them acting like that again he won’t be as “merciful”. But to the Victims he would console them, but also give them his harsh reality of “you have to be stronger than your enemies” and as much as he wants them to keep their innocence, he doesn’t want them to be weak either. Or worse killed.

König, having been bullied all of his childhood, is FIRMLY against bullying.

To see a little girl/boy being labelled an outcast is oh too familiar to him, and hits far too close to home than it should. Brings back the insecurities, the feeling of being utterly humilated, a permanent reminder of his not fitting in. Literally.

Primary school: bullied for being a beanstalk, for head hitting the door frame, for being abnormally large, a "mutant"; balls hurtled at him in dodgeball, all competing in finding out who can knock out the "freak"; knees kicked from behind and legs buckling from the attack, a stampede of legs stamping on him as he cowered on the floor, helpless, and no one caring to help, teachers observing idly nearby.

Secondary school: nose broken to "fix" his crooked features, his "ugly" face; cast aside in class photos for "ruining the picture"; people of his own age turning their heads in the other way in disgust, avoiding him like the plague.

As if his "ugliness" was contagious, and if anyone was to touch him they'd catch the disease.

Power surpassing his tormentors, yet too powerless to fight back, he endured, yet didn't overcome.

Lasting trauma changed König's own perception of self completely.

It took a long time becoming the cocky and confident commander he presents himself as. To stand up to his full height and embrace himself for who he was and is, to be self-assured, domineering, and boisterous with others irrespective of their rank. The Colonel; a hardened soldier; a strict man of discipline exerting his authority over all, not at all sympathetic towards anyone.

Deep down, he is still that young boy, vulnerable in the center of a circle of so many pointing fingers and sneering faces. All became a collective body of ridiculing smiles, of sing-song laughter, so many that he lost count.

So, personally vowing to NEVER let his future children (or any children) go through the same turmoil, he would intervene whenever he had the chance to.

For instance, perhaps König was speed-walking home one day, dufflebag slung over his shoulder as he rushed to get back to you as soon as possible after being deployed these past weeks, and maybe he was passing by a playground.

Initially focused on the goal at hand, he couldn't help but turn his head, a small smile under his mask as he felt a wave of nostalgia crash over him. Nostalgic of times before he was forced to integrate with callous society.

Smiling at the oblivious children playing together, kicking their chubby little legs on the swings, sliding down a slide and falling, squealing. All giggling with glee, so innocent.

All except one. His eyes would land on a small girl, bawling on the ground, no older than five years old.

Surrounded by three others, all pointing fingers and laughing, the ringleader making fun of the poor thing as his henchmen stomped the remainder of her sandcastle, kicking sand at her. Hands on hip, chest puffed out triumphantly.

Rubbing her puffy eyes, thick pouting lips drooping in an open-mouthed frown, chin quivering as she struggled to contain her broken sobs, she kneeled on the ground, hugging her knees to her chest.

Usually, in these types of situations, people tend to behave in two very different ways when they see something that happened to them happening before their eyes:

"Why should I help them? I went through the same thing, so it's not my problem" or "I should help! They shouldn't have to go through the same thing".

You can probably already guess under which category König falls into.

He was NOT about to actively play a passive role in ignoring the poor blubbering child, to be downright apathetic like the other adults were in their radius. No way.

Still carrying his dufflebag, imagine the horror of the little shitlings*: seeing an imposing giant 2ft+ taller than them, huge body trudging towards their little troupe; cold, icy-blue eyes half-lidded staring into their bulging ones. Glaring.

Little band of clowns would probably actually shitting themselves fr 💀

Not only does König give the brats a stern talking to (all the while they are nodding their heads with jaws on the floor, knees trembling and nearly caving in on themselves), he later makes it his due diligence to track down the parent(s) and scold them too.

"Was wird deinem Gören zu Hause beigebracht? What do you teach your brat? This behaviour is unacceptable. You have set a terrible example, Du verdammter Idiot. How dare you allow this? Bulling is wrong. Scheiße, are you listening to me? Because you should, Dummkopf. You should be ashamed. I am sure ashamed of you. I swear to Gott—"

Cue 1 hours later, he personally grounds them (the child and parents)... 🤐

...And the child goes with it? Even the adults? 😭

I mean, to be honest, I would too, if a 6'10, body-so-broad-that-it-blocked-all-sunlight-and-did-not-fit-in-the-door-frame Colonel, gesticulating wildly, projecting strongly his German-accented voice, cursing in an aggravated amalgamation of furious English and a spiteful spit of German... Yeah, I'd be pissing my pants not even gonna lie 😭

I'd imagine that the parents would be immediately saluting, images of stupidity on their faces, completely dumbfounded to have their parenting challenged and to learn that their "precious little angel(s) that can do no wrong" actually can do wrong. (sorry guys i hate toddlers with a RAGING PASSION... rant over fyi no more of me insulting shitheads🥰)

As for the sweet, weeping girl, he would crouch down to her height, gentle eyes genuine behind his menacing mask. Slowly lifting the fabric, wary of his facial deformities, his scars, he'd do his best to give her a comforting smile, wanting to make her at ease.

She was not put off by his appearance at all. If anything, she maintained eye contact — was curious yes, so with no filter whispered, "You... you have a nice smile, sir. I like your eyes.

"They're—" a loud sniff, wiping her nose with her sleeve "—they're pretty. "

Taken aback, König's eyes widened. Then, in soft whisper:

"Meine Süße, I'm so very sorry about those— those idiots..."

The girl giggled a little, dimples appearing on her tear-stained cheeks.

"And I'm so very sorry, but there will others. Other idiots," he allowed himself to smile, letting out a dry chuckle.

A tentative hand dropping to her round shoulder, squeezing it every so slightly to emphasise his words. "And you have to be strong, Mädchen. You must be strong. This world isn't a good place for angels like you."

Obviously, he didn't sugarcoat the truth. Situations like this would be unavoidable. He would make that clear.

"I do not condone violence, but—" a wink, acknowledging the irony behind his words. "—if you stick your foot out when one of those brats are walking down the corridors, surely nothing will happen, ja?"

Seeing the girl lighten up, smiling brightly, no signs anymore of crying, he ruffled her hair with a toothy grin.

Letting the veil drop down his face, he suddenly fixed his posture and gave an exaggeratedly goofy salute as he turned to head home, satisfied. All the while the girl waved at him energetically, eyes crinkling up in an adolescent's adorable smile.

On another note: I never really gave it much thought before, but... König as a father? 🥺🥺

Your headcannons unlocked a part of my brain that had been locked. 🤭✨ Needed to upgrade my König skill tree before I got to this poin. 🦸🏼‍♀️ Sure has been worth it, though. 🤩

Ever since he was past his teenage years, the thought of a family was something he longed for. Desired.

Maybe it's because he was taught traditional house roles in his European household, or was longing for something that was out of reach, he couldn't tell.

What he was certain about was that it was his biggest wish. His dream.

Deployed in a foreign country, his favourite past-time was fantasizing about his future with a special someone, to have a big family, and to raise his children, giving them everything good he never had, and to shield them from everything bad he had experienced.

Something in being the breadwinner of the house was so masculine to him, and coming home to so many short, out-stretched arms, so excited to be reunited with their papa clinging on to his long legs brought a tear to his eye.

And, once you two officially became a couple, he knew that he wanted to start a family with you at some point. From the moment he met your eyes, intuition assured him that you would be the right one for him.

If you're a [fertile] female, he wants nothing more than to see miniature you and him running around, sweet cherub faces and their chubby cheeks smiling at him, calling him papa, calling you mama.

Seeing your belly swell up with his baby would strangely give him a sense of pride, proud that you would both bring sacred life into the world together, and would practically worship the ground you walk on. He would want to get this right, for everything to be perfect.

He wouldn't allow you to lift a finger despite your protests, catering to your every need, caring for you in any and all ways he could:

Carrying the groceries, 3 carrier bags in each hand, serving you while simultaneously subtly making you swoon, not missing the googly eyes you made at his strength from his peripheral vision;

Doing the bed, making sure to stock up on additional soft pillows and fluffy blankets so you would rest well, removing all stress from your morning routine, and the discomfort of finding a comfortable sleeping position at night;

Insisting you eat balanced meals, preparing nutritious food that had all the nutrients you would need, the sustenance to feed you and develop a healthy baby.

The gore and guts he had witnessed in the battlefield did not compare at all to the sight of blood staining the hospital bed sheet. The look of horror in his eyes as you went into labour, death grip on his hand, knuckles turning white. He'd be hyperventilating, almost feeling the same pain you were going through 😢💔

Not to say that your agony was worth it, but seeing the beautiful blanketed bundle in your arms, you cooing at the little one, made every single horrific moment combined in his life worthwhile.

All the struggles, the hardships, the troubles; all worth it if it meant seeing you with his child.

If you're anything other ([infertile] female, male, non-binary, etc), König would get so emotional when adopting a newborn with you.

He'd be teary-eyed, unable to hide the emotions.

To think that he'd be rescuing a child, giving them a second chance and making it feel so wanted, so loved. To give it all the love he was missing, the feeling forgotten through years of bullying, abuse, and violence, and war.

He would waste no time building the nursery. Painting the walls, building the crib, buying plush blankets, stuffed teddy bears, toys that would be in no way a choking hazard.

His helicopter parent preparations aside, his dream would be to grow old with you, and be surrounded by children, grand-children, and even great-grand-children, sharing stories as the lively atmosphere was bubbling with life, with a family.

Piggy back rides would be a MUST!! 😡 Or, better yet, his infants (taking turns — dunno if three kids at once is very practical 😭) sitting on his shoulders, seeing the world from so high up. Reaching out, and their head in the clouds.

Bouncing them on his knee, like a train conductor going through heavy turbulence, all the while the little ones would be laughing happily, telling him to go faster.

Every single one of his children cuddled up to him; in his lap, over his shoulders, splayed over his legs, clinging to him like a pack of koalas. 🐨

Reading bed time stories, stroking their head, stood in the door way minutes after his children had fallen asleep. Keeping them safe.

A family of his own. To eventually embarrass endearingly, to squish their cheeks, and tickle their sides, play-wrestle and tease by keeping objects out of reach. His extensive research also included horrible dad jokes, which were made hilarious by their poor translations into English.

Wanting to raise his children the way his mother had raised him while she was still around, to give his children the happy childhood he hadn't had, to make school a positive journey into adulthood. He'd teach them to deal with bullies, to stand up for themselves when he never could...

...And, athough he has good intentions, the truth is that with a father like him no snot-nosed brat would ever dare to mess with the Colonel's children ☠️

(I think this is pretty obvious but a trigger warning before you read this as it is essentially emotional abuse and sometimes physical/the fear of physical——I hope if anyone is struggling with something like that they find a way out of it and remember how strong they truly are)

A relationship with a Toxic!Klaus Mikaelson:

Your relationship with Klaus started off like a fairytale. He was like you saviour, he rescued you from crazy vampires, viscous wolves and temper-mental witches.

He kept you safe and protected, you were his favourite human, his favourite person. He always lifted you up when you were down and provided you with more than you could ever want or need.

He was perfect with all his dazzling presents and charming personality. His compliments were a constant and the look in his eye that he held for you was clear as day to all around that he was in love.

But having the devil love you…well you should have been prepared to be burned.

His jealousy was one thing. And at first it was somewhat cute. It reminded you that he loved you and he only wanted you but after a while it was just disheartening that he had such little trust in you.

And with the possessiveness mixed into it, well he wasn’t easy to calm down. He never let you out of his sight.

His grip on your wist would be tight to keep you at his side and the look he gives you is threatening when he leaves you for even a second. A warning to not go against his rules.

Klaus has a lot of unspoken rules.

And to begin with the punishments were fun, and desirable but they became feared. It went from him showing you how much he loved you and how you should only want to be with him, to “how dare you turn your back on me! It’s like you don’t even love me anymore!” And “you never wanted to be here in the first place, you’re a sneaky little thing I’ll give you that but I will not be taken for a fool and be exploited but some pathetic lesser being!”

‘Pathetic’ was a word he used all too much. He spat the word at you with such aggression you began to believe it. You felt it, you were it.

And now when he ‘took his anger out on you’, even if it was rough sex, you began to worry. He was rough, too rough, so rough it hurt but you couldn’t ask him to stop because you knew it would piss him off.

The fear of him ever purposely physically harming you was so high, you grew sensitive to loud noises and harsh touches, your body flinching and your instincts pushing you to fight or flight but you fought against them.

Glasses were his favourite thing to throw if he hadn’t already flipped a table. Pure rage on his face and he threw ridiculous accusations at you and each time you denied it his expression only darkened.

Once you took a different approach and decided to ‘confess’ to his lies but that resulted in 5 stitches when a shard of glass caught your skin after he launched a bottle of bourbon at the wall beside your head.

That was a day that haunted the both of you.

His face had never dropped faster when he saw the blood spill from your cheek and your hand covering your mouth as you let out a mic of a sob and a scream before you sprinted out of the house. He nearly lost his mind when nobody knew where you were only to over hear a conversation of you with a nurse when he had checked the hospital

“No no it was stupid, I walked straight into the thorns dangling over my doorway, I really need to get them cut it just slipped my mind” you lied through your teeth and smiled at the nurse who studied you closely

“Well just incase,” she handed you a card “they’ll pick up at any hour, don’t be afraid” she whispered squeezing your hand as you looked down to the helpline.

“It won’t be necessary but thank you” you forced a smile and stood up slowly. You felt like you were going to be sick as you dropped the card into the bin and walked toward the exit.

Klaus had seen the card and his heart clenched in pain at the thought of the nurse thinking you were in an abusive relationship.

He was right outside the hospital door when you walked out making you jump.

And for whatever reason, you gave him it.

A mistake. Forgiveness was a mistake.

And yet it was something you handed to him like a neighbour would give out candies to children on Halloween.

He made you weak. And yet somehow he had it in his head that you made him weak. That you ruined his life. You weaselled your way in and made him feel sorry for you.

He had to look after you, it would have been cruel to leave someone so fucking pathetic to try survive on their own.

But that was cruelty you would have preferred.

And yet you were unable to leave, get away from him.

No matter what happened he always seemed to trick you into forgiving him.

He always had an “I’m sorry” present at the ready, perfectly wrapped and given to you like it were the most precious thing in the world.

His touch was so soft after making you cry, his arms lifting you off of the floor which you had been lead on for hours while he stormed out to “cool down” and told you not to move.

He would lower you into a warm bath and wash you gently, his lips kissing your shoulder as his fingers massage your head. No words would leave your mouth as he whispered words of kindness to you, no blush would form on your face when he told you how beautiful you were.

And when he dressed you in his henley and only your underwear, you felt uncomfortable because you did not want his hands on you like that anymore. You didn’t want to feel disgusting with someone you loved.

But he would hold you so close, his hands rubbing your back and playing with your fingers as he murmurs promises of a better future.

Empty promises.

But at the time they were little pieces of hope.

Things to believe in and wish for.

He loved you, there was no question about it but he was not capable of showing it in a way that kept you both happy.

He was scary, he humiliated you and made you feel worthless with and without him.

But he had put a roof over your head, he got food in your belly and clothes on your body. You were nothing without him.

for me it was actually your fic, but since its so normalized in the fandom to dismiss his trauma and call him a coward and annoying for doing things that other characters are loved for, i didn't really care about him when i first read the books

And wow, what a good question. I don't mind at all! I actually had to think about this for a while to try and remember…how the heck did I get here???

So here is my ridiculously uncalled-for POV on Kevin’s character and slow descent into madness below:

(Disclaimer that these are just my thoughts and anyone in the aftg fandom can hc or think whatever they like about Mr. Day 😊)

Like you, anon, I was easily swayed by Neil’s perspective of Kev on first read. It makes sense and is a credit to Nora how we so fully buy into Neil’s opinion of Kevin that many of us just run with it. And to be fair to the fandom, it’s canon – Andrew, Neil, and all the Foxes tell us he’s a coward and annoying and so we assume it must be true.

So, I created many fics that played into this image and focused on andreil. (Because who isn’t enamored with andreil??? Legit, deranged obsession and couple goals lmao). Using that lens, it was easy to make Kevin the punching bag because he is the quintessential “straight man” in comedy (and yes, I do hear the irony in that) – the foil to other characters to make them seem better, braver, funnier, smarter, etc. It’s an age-old trick/trope in fiction that works very well. And it was an easier transition for Nora to make, I think, once she made the decision to remove Kevin from the main narrative of her story.

This character setup works well enough when you’re doing a fic from Neil or Andrew’s POV, providing an easy source of humor to fall back on. So, for me, I think my thinking shifted once I started working on Flavors of Fall and delved into Andrew and Kevin’s storyline there. That fic forced me to think from Kevin’s perspective, and I found at the time I had a shallow understanding of what made Kevin tick. It totally threw me once I really started considering sequels for that fic and the 12 Day Program for Courtship, both of which have Kevin cast as a main character. I had to dive deep into his makeup, seriously considering his motivations, his likes/dislikes, his personality traits, his relationships, and how he would react in any given situation.

Because I was interested in his character development, I started delving into fics like orionauriga’s just pretend , @likearecordbb's Long Walk in the Woods, @thetrojeans daylights, sunsets, and @dayurno's the age of no regret series. They are all brilliant, fascinating character studies of Kevin Day and his relationships that are extremely well done. There’s many more, of course, but I was searching for fics that specifically delved into Kevin’s thought process and choices and stayed there a while.

That’s what led me to feeling like I needed to tell his story with Dead of Night. Of course, it turned into a larger series with my flavoring of Kerejean added because I’ve never been a huge Kevin/Thea relationship fan. (But that's a discussion for another day which you can start here and here for that adventure.)

Now all that I’ve described above gives you the mechanics of the descent – the when, the where, the how. But it crucially misses the why. What is it about Kevin that got me in the end?

Ironically enough, it was his potential.

I think when Nora stripped away any kind of romantic narrative (RIP Kandreil OR Riko/Kevin/Jean) or a chance for a tragic storyline (Kevin dying in the end) it resulted in removing a lot of Kevin’s emotional vulnerability. We don’t get to hear what he’s feeling or thinking unless it’s related to Riko, the Moriyamas, or Exy. This means his storyline is consumed by the stereotypical sports underdog story, with us following his rise to champion (which is still a powerful enough narrative on its own that shines even in the midst of Neil’s crazy plotline. Switching that racquet to his left hand in the championship game? Iconic.)

However, it leaves us very much with a shell of a person. Kevin’s character outside of Exy is reduced to a handful of facts – there’s a passing comment on his like of history, and the stark evidence of an alcohol addiction as a coping mechanism. We’re told he used to dance. That he learned French because Jean Moreau taught him. That he has no qualms about taking (mild?) drugs (cracker dust). Despite how much we’ve run with it as a fandom, the only allusion I’ve found in the books to him being strict with diet is this section from The King’s Men:

“No one needs to eat this before a game,” Kevin said. “Eat some granola or protein if you’re that hungry.” “Hello, there’s protein in the peanut butter,” Nicky said. “Let go of me before I tell Andrew you’re outlawing chocolate. I said let go. You’re not the boss of me. Ouch! Did you seriously just hit me?” … “Kevin, just let him go,” Neil said. “It’s not worth fighting over.” “When our defense is sluggish, we all suffer,” Kevin said.

From what I can find in the books, Kevin never once denies Andrew eating ice cream. (Which I’m 100% able to admit I might have missed something so feel free to quote me where that scene is because I was totally searching for it). In fact, every time they go to Sweetie’s, it’s implied Kevin orders ice cream with them. In the infamous kissing scene in The King’s Men, we actually have proof that Kevin got ice cream:

Kevin still hadn’t messaged Nicky by the time they reached the ice cream aisle, so Nicky gave in and called him. Neil half-expected Kevin to ignore Nicky’s call, but Kevin wasn’t so sour with them that he’d turn down a free snack…Nicky grabbed spoons from the kitchen and distributed pints to their hungry owners. Neil checked his expression when Nicky came back from dropping Kevin’s off….

Now I do think it’s in line with his character and his upbringing to have issues with food, so I’m all for buying into that specific hc. But we have very little evidence of it in the text.

His personality is reduced mainly to anger, arrogance, or cowardice (all traits that don’t make us sympathize with him). The only facts we have about his Tragic Past™️ are two things: his mother’s death, and his hand injury. Everything else we assume is based on Neil’s knowledge of the mafia, Wymack’s hearsay, Andrew’s deductions, and Kevin’s reactions to Riko and Tetsuji. We have literally no idea what happened to Kevin in the Nest. His trauma and his time spent there is a complete mystery. The closest we get is Riko’s comment to Neil in The Raven King:

“I am going to love hurting you,” Riko said, “like I loved hurting Kevin.”

This, I think, is one of the main reasons many of the fandom “dismisses” Kevin’s trauma in comparison to Neil’s because we can’t see it. We don’t know what happened and we don’t get to experience it, so this lack of explanation or motivation leaves us only with very cold personality traits. We’re unable to root for him as a character because we can’t sympathize. We can empathize because we know Very Bad Things™️ must have happened in the Nest, but we don’t see them happen the same way we do Neil or Andrew. Even Kevin’s hand injury is old and “healed” when we’re first introduced to the character.

The only true canon moment where Kevin appears “human” is in The Raven King with Kevin’s “then run” and “you should be court” conversation with Neil. His admittance that Neil’s life is more important than Exy is instantaneous – he doesn’t even pause to throw his Exy dreams down the drain if it means Neil can survive. In a weirdly parallel way, we see Kevin’s thought process implicit in his conversation: “at least you’d have a chance.” It is strikingly similar to Neil’s internal conversation of: one of us should make it. (And there’s another whole separate discourse I could get into on how Kevin and Neil are two halves of the same coin, but we’ll save that for another day.) But even the revelation of Wymack as his father has more shock value than true emotional weight – we never see what that conversation looked like or how either party actually reacted. (In some ways, I feel like Dan being pissed at Kevin is given more “screentime” than Kevin’s response to telling his father and how Wymack reacted.)

So with Kevin’s emotions and past firmly locked down, we’re left to brush off Kevin’s reactions (or lack thereof) as part of his indifferent personality. It is what it says on the tin. (And that’s not to say Kevin is a perfect character by any means. He has flaws just like every other character.)

Now some people very accurately depict and buy into those limitations as simply being Kevin’s character/personality – I’ve read some awesome fics where Kevin is Ace/Aro and/or on the spectrum. These are completely valid, extremely well done, and I could totally see why others see and write him this way. Canon practically sets them up for it.

For me, though, it circles back to our skewed view of Kevin given to us by some deeply loved but also deeply flawed characters (cough, Andreil). Those same characters that we’re told time and again not to judge them by their cover but to try and understand how they’re affected by (and make choices because of) their trauma.

While Andrew and Neil end up giving each other this grace through a hard-fought battle of truths and exchanges, they do not extend this same courtesy to Kevin, and neither are we given the chance to do so. We literally can’t because, again, we don’t know what the full extent of Kevin’s trauma is.

Kevin doesn’t talk about his time in the Nest to any character, meaning we know nothing about it. Ergo we don’t know what choices Kevin makes because of it. In The Foxhole Court, Wymack specifically tells us Kevin was Riko’s pet. In fact, there is so much specific language that Kevin himself uses around the concept of ownership, and that Nora uses when referring to him that it jarringly sticks out in the text. He has no sense of personal space or proper boundaries, viewing people only as assets to be used for the good of the team, which at the very least is a sign of mental abuse. But the fact remains that we just don’t know. We don’t know how far this mental abuse was taken, how often or severely he was injured, if he injured or was forced to injure others – we don’t know.

But it’s obvious whatever happened to him started as a child and built from there. Which means he has years of abuse and power dynamics embedded into him. He has every right to be afraid. In fact, we are demonstrably told and shown often in canon that Kevin is afraid…but fear does not equate to cowardice. In fact, we know that bravery often means being scared and doing something anyway. And in many cases, that’s just what Kevin did (with a crutch named Andrew). But even before he entered his deal with Andrew, it's important to remember that even though he was brainwashed and beaten from a young age to understand that he would die if he betrayed the Moriyama family in some way, he left them.

This is always so significant to me because so many abuse victims stay in their situation thinking/hoping/praying it will get better – either because of an idea that their abuser will change (“they’re just having a hard time at work rn”) or that the victim will fix whatever flaw the abuser finds lacking. Or alternatively, they recognize the situation is bad, but they can’t leave because they feel like they have nowhere to go, no one who will help them, trapped by their lack of skills/contacts/money. In Kevin’s case, both situations rang true. And yet he left. He left, and in only a year and a half’s time he recovered from his injury and led his team to the championship.

But he is only at the start of his recovery. I think he’ll need years of therapy to recover from all that happened in the Nest. I think many of his emotional and social shortcomings are a direct consequence of that timeframe and he did not have the freedom to address them until the threat of the Moriyamas was removed. I do not think they are permanent parts of his personality – I think in time, he will be allowed to grow and recover and contribute much more to his relationships than he’s capable of doing at the end of The King’s Men.

Though the series finished, I think Kevin’s story is just beginning.

That’s why I think he’s fascinating to explore as a character. That’s why I love writing him right now because in many ways, his possibilities are endless. There’s so many opportunities to explore different facets of his story that we never get a chance to in canon. Kevin’s character and narrative is a tantalizing tease which many of us have fell hook, line, and sinker for. (Including yours truly.) We want to rabidly sink our teeth into it and shake it, like a dog with a bone.

So we do. 😉

Phew. Okay, that’s enough. None of what I’ve written above is new I’m sure to those of the fandom who have been here since the beginning or have become diehard Kevin fans. But thank you for letting me ramble in this ask, anon. Writing about Kevin has been a very fun and therapeutic adventure for me. So I’m so glad that there are others out there who are enjoying it too 😊

Hello! Do you remember that scene where Dottore erases all of the segments in the archon quest? I wonder how would reader react to it, especially in the case of fragile! reader who always has a segment with them. One moment he is serving them tea and the next moment, he's kneeling on the ground, in pain and reader panics, asking him what's wrong. But before they know it, he's gone :( I imagine reader may be a bit traumatised by that. Maybe they thought Dottore died for good. Even if they think it's just the segment that died, I feel like fragile! reader has some abandonment issues because they are forced to be dependent on Dottore. If they watch Dottore died, even if it's just a segment, it strikes fear that one day Dottore may die unknowingly and they would be all alone in the Fatui, no one caring for them.

NOOOOOOOO PLEASE- I had to mentally recover after reading this. I never bring up the deletion of his clones in my fics cuz it makes me so sad and I don't think I can physically write dottore hcs without mentioning them at least once lol🥺

The way you described it was so good and sad!!😭😭 Such a good scenario!! I imagine fragile! reader talking to the segment, happy that they get to start their day with him and then all of a sudden the clone stops responding. You call his name (the unique one that you made for that specific segment, because you really can't stand calling them by numbers) but there's still no answer. You try to pull him towards you, but it's more like he ends up tumbling onto you, his strength diminishing by the second. Your heart is going so fast you're sure that it couldn't possibly be good for your health. He's saying something under his breath but you can't really hear it besides the mention of "Omega" and "ridiculous" and "regret this." You cup his cheek, and try to make the segment look at you, and he does, though the blatant fear written all over his face causes your throat to dry up. His grip on your thighs tightens as he opens his mouth to say something and then-

He's gone, as if he never existed at all. And you are at a loss for words. You start to tremble, and it's not from the cold this time. You muster your strength to leave the room, and when you get to the lab it's dead silent. No one in sight. No clones busily sprinting around to get things done. You collapse to the floor and clutch your chest, completely in shambles. Was he... gone? No, Zandik could never fall. Your lover was the Second Fatui Harbinger, with strength that rivaled the Archons, there's no way, it was simply not possible for him to lose. Zandik would never leave you, you tried to convince yourself. It wasn't true, it wasn't true, it wasn't- Your frail body could not keep up with what your mind was suggesting, and you blacked out.

Fragile! reader would definitely be messed up after that... I've written some angst before about them feeling poorly about themselves due to their condition. They feel as though they're a burden sometimes since they rely on Dottore for many things. And this incident just makes them feel a lot worse since what would they do if Zandik was defeated? The Fatui wouldn't take kindly to losers. Forget about your condition, your heart would surely die of grief and loss. Fragile! reader would also probably strongly dislike the Traveler and Nahida from now. I feel as though they would be much more lonely now because they don't have anyone to really talk to now. I also think fragile! reader would be kinda scared of Omegattore now😭 They're not sure how to trust him after he deleted the segments so easily, you were really attached to them </3

Over the past couple days, i wrote like 398429347 garu/karu mini meta and i dont want to flood the tag each time, so here's a bunch of them! I have a feeling I'll have more brainrot about them.... so I'm making this a multipart series.

BIG disclaimer that i did not play every event nor unlocked every intimacy room, so I am probably lacking some major lore information. If anyone has opened more stories, or knows answers to my questions, or has correct information, or other thoughts in general, please let me know!

Garu is very horny & submissive and really likes anal. 7 out of 8 scenes include penetrative anal sex, whether its fingering or Eiden's cock. Interestingly, neither of them have done the infamous missionary pose- its just some kind of riding or doggy. He doesn't seem to have any physical kinks yet (aside from anal), but he's into being submissive, serving his master, praise, and definitely likes sex- so I think he'd be into trying BDSM if eiden brought it up.

The 3 times we hear Karu talk/think about sex himself, aside from wanting to top & having a major ego... i mean praise kink- MG when he pushes Garu away saying he wants to feel good, EG when he vaguely says he wants to feel good, and BS where he thinks he'd like to be fucked but denies it when replying to Eiden. Karu is starting to trust Eiden now and accept that he (gasp!) might like being fucked. While this is, yay! character development!, i'm ever so miiiildly disappointed bc I thought Garu/Karu had perfect potential to be a switch. Karu would probably suck as a top, but Dante also sucked at sex in the beginning & he's gone through character development now. (Btw, I'd just like to say that Karu is a different kind of tsundere than Edmond is. Karu has explicitly stated he wants to top multiple times. Edmond is just wishywashy and uncertain about le horny.) However, in BS, there's also a vague conversation that Karu & Garu have- I'm not sure if the translation is just skirting around the specifics, but Garu assumes Karu doesn't like some of the "other things" about being a model and says "Don't you hate those things?" Those things either mean humans in general, specifically interacting with humans, or being sexy (or all 3). So while Karu wishes he could top, is starting to accept that he also likes being fucked, he is not as ridiculously horny as Garu is. Going as far as to say Karu might be somewhere on the ace spectrum is a bit far, but I can see someone making the case for it. (Asexual/ace spectrum people can still have sex for a variety of reasons).

C) Garu & Karu's Fashion

Of our yokai love insterests- kuya cares about his appearance, yakumo doesn't have strong preferences but seems to value modesty so he knows what he's comfortable with, (if quincy counts as yokai, he probably DGAF). and then we have garu/karu.

we don't know how they picked/got their SR/R/N clothing, but we can assume its something garu & his gramps slapped together in the Dead Zone (and for some reason Garu still wears it even after moving into Aster's mansion lol). (Btw Karu did prank people by stripping them, so i wonder if what's they're wearing could've also been stolen?) As for all his other SSR outfits- all of them are given by someone else and the Howling Cyclone "outfit" was some bandages, a coat, & a pumpkin hat that yakumo/eiden/garu found on the ground.

therefore i am very very curious that, if given the choice, what would garu & karu pick for themselves? cause i feel like they would have different fashion preferences.

and then i realized- growing up mostly isolated in the harsh Dead Zone- garu/karu's never had the time to even think about fashion, so neither of them probably care nor have any shame. what we can deduce though, is that they both have praise kinks and if someone compliments them in some way, then they definitely like it, regardless of what the outfit actually is. so i'm gonna try to figure out what their fashion preferences might be once they get more comfortable with clothing.

honestly, i think garu likes revealing clothing now. the only thing we know him to have picked out, the very revealing placements of the Howling Cyclone bandages and posssibly the jockstrap in Binary Star. (In room 4, Garu says that he & Karu(!) prepared "an ultimate skill for Master" and then the camera zooms in on his crotch. Like if thats not saying Garu picked his jockstrap, idk what it means.) I also think this was learned, because in Master's Gift, Garu was still kind of clueless on how sexy he looked and now he actively seeks out sexy garments. back to HC- garu strips everything to wear just the bandages & coat. He doesn't keep his underwear or look for pants or a shirt, which means he either wasn't socially aware, had no shame, or liked how revealing it was. Also, the jockstrap was a secret present for Eiden not for the public.

Karu is a bit harder since he seems to just go along with whatever (including whatever garu wants). and even in BS when karu is finally getting some spotlight on his preferences, he only cares about food & conquering/enchanting people. anyone got ideas?

D) Who knows that Karu exists?

I'm going through the Binary Starlight Garu rooms and i realized that Karu is interacting with random townspeople and no one seems to have any issue or confusion about that.

And then I realized, that after Garu meets everyone except Dante (and Rei) in ch8, he goes to Aster's mansion and has very little screen time until ch 13, and we don't really know who Garu is hanging out with besides Aster's maids and clan members. (We don't know when the side events are taking place in the timeline).

Nonhuman/yokai/wolf reactions to Karu's existence can possibly be excused, since they're probably used to unusual circumstances. i'm gonna excuse the clan members & aster's maids cause they have daily exposure to Garu&Karu. i'll assume that the clan members & aster caught up dante with who garu was off screen and, well, now we know Rei/Karu/Garu might have some HistoryTM.

but what about random townspeople? although garu can be hyper & extroverted, he usually introduces himself as just "Hi! I'm Garu!", not Hi! I'm Garu and sometimes I switch into Karu." In summer fest, garu/karu's just there as support so he's not really making himself known to a lot of people. And in Eerie escapade, i highly doubt he was having interpersonal conversations while battling monsters in the pampo village that they teleported to. But in the BS intimacy rooms, the modeling people/store owners are having actual conversations knowing Karu's name. In fact, at the end, it seems like Karu is doing most of the modeling but when its an aspect of modeling that Karu doesn't like, Garu takes over. Does this mean that garu is pretending to be Karu, or that everyone knows its the two of them? This will be interesting…. Bonus, for those who believe that Karu's eyes are actually blue and the yellow is only for the player, i think the store owners/fans/townspeople would point out if karu's eyes suddenly changed to blue!

E) Garu&Karu's sexualities

Ok so its hard to tell since klein (and saia!) doesn't have the same concept of sexuality that earth does.

that said, the yokai also have the bonus of not being human and them being based off some animal characteristics, of which foxes, snakes, & wolves also all display homosexual behaviors. so this will be interesting! i am not a scientist, this is just based off le googles.

Foxes- a lot of these species have sex and pair with male & female foxes.

Snakes- also a lot of homosexual partners/pairings and in fact some species can reproduce asexually

Wolves- alpha male wolves have 1 alpha female mate for life but may mate with other males if they're in heat, otherwise they live in a pack

So what about Garu & Karu? Consistently, Garu has said he only wants Eiden to fuck him. So we can assume that sexually, Garu is uh master-sexual, regardless of what gender that master is. However, because he is still a wolf yokai, I do believe that he views the clan members as his pack to still share both platonic and intimate experiences. So Garu would have no problems with Eiden telling him to seduce Edmond or something. In summary- Garu is unknown leaning towards whoever he considers his alpha wolf and thinks in pack mentality, aka poly. Also, he's 100% a sub.

Karu is, once again, more complicated. He said he doesn't only belong to Eiden and calls Kuya, Kuya-sama (translated to Master Kuya) sometimes. (In master's gift, he called Kuya "wily fox" lol. I think nowadays, Kuya and Yakumo are the only one he calls by their actual names, not something like "the knight" or "human" or "the priest" or "the vampire"). Karu also has the added issue where he is poorly socialized & traumatized as HECK and trauma sure messes up your perception of relationships. In my earlier mini-meta analyzing Garu/Karu's H scenes, I said someone could argue that Karu is aromantic or demiromantic or grey-ace.

Luckily, as an aromantic sexual person with trauma, i have some experience in this realm! Unfortunately, I'm not a writer and Karu isn't a real person- so a) I don't know the intentions so we don't know if his experiences are shaped by trauma or his actual sexuality and b) since he's not real, he can be open to interpretation! But let's assume Karu's base sexuality when not shaped by trauma. His horniness level is nowhere near Garu's overwhelming horniness, and while he's not shy to sex, he needs multiple experiences before gradually warming up to the idea of sex. Garu is also clearly attracted to Eiden as a person, whereas Karu is still in denial but also unwilling to commit himself to Eiden (but does want to hang on to Eiden- see the whole human slave thing). Garu seems knowledgeable in sexiness, but Karu just seems clueless about it. He also does not seem to know about human romantic attraction general. In summary.... I don't have a good conclusion for Karu at all. But someone can use these arguments to prove that Karu might be demisexual/demiromantic or on the aro/ace spectrum.

F) Garu's throat scar

(Quick note: Did Olivine say that essence can heal scars?)

So I noticed that even though Garu casually displays his other scars, he consistently covers up his throat scar in event + SR outfits. (We can only see it in Forgotten Fruit H scenes). Although Misty Vale implies that the scars could be from the Council experimentation, the other scars also make sense for Dead Zone injuries considering Garu has no armor or skin protection. He also doesn't seem concerned about covering them or healing them (if they can be healed? Someone correct me about the above statement), but his throat scar is consistently covered.

If the events seem to take place after the main gemstone storyline. The fact that none of his (old) scars are healed means:

-Garu probably didn't learn how to heal scars in the dead zone and got used to them & his Gramps was more survivalist- he either thought Garu would have a better chance surviving when looking tough & scarred up or just didn't care about appearances. And even if he learned now/after the Main Plot, in Misty Vale, Garu doesn't care seem to care about covering up all his body scars.

-Except Garu (or at least all his clothing givers lol) does want to cover up his throat scar though. Heck, garu even covered up his neck by himself when wrapping himself with bandages. If he wanted to hide it consistently, I'm sure Olivine has ways to heal it. However, this means that scar cannot be healed, so they cover it up instead.

Yeah that's all I got with this.

WARNING: This section talks about trauma. I am NOT a licensed psychiatrist or have personal experience with DID. This is only based off internet research, which may or may not be reliable.

X) Garu/Karu & Rei's Trauma

There's a lot of traumatized characters in nu carnival, but i think these 2 take the cake for the amount of physical violence and/or abuse done against them whilst lacking in power*. By that, i mean while the rest of the cast all have their traumas, they have had moments of empowerment in the past, currently have moments of empowerment, they had some empowerment during whatever caused their trauma (or were forced to cause other people's traumas therefore messing them up significantly too), or are literally in positions of power with ways to control their life circumstances on their own terms. For example, Blade, Kuya, Dante, Yakumo, and Aster had awful things happen to them or were horribly manipulated by others, but Blade, Kuya, and Dante are powerful fighters that have control over their autonomy present-day, meanwhile Yakumo & Aster are in a much healthier relationship with Eiden and have confidence in their new support network. (Blade and Kuya in particular also caused a LOT other people a lot of harm so that gets a bit complicated).

Rei & garu on the other hand, have had their bodies horrendously violated, are still actively dealing with it and, in my opinion, lack significant empowerment to control their autonomy. also, none of their traumas have actually been dealt with yet, heck we barely know exactly what happened.

and their trauma responses & coping mechanisms are completely different. garu does everything he can to protect himself (DID, amnesia, garu tries to be optimistic, karu is focused on self preservation). rei does everything he can to aggravate it (unhealthy coping mechanisms, everything is transactional & extremely goal oriented, kind of apathetic, and self destructive).

In rusted nation, rei definitely remembers what's happened to him, but it looks like he sugarcoated it amidst bickering with kuya, while Eiden & blade "escaped" so eiden didn't hear it. kuya is (overly) great at keeping secrets, so eiden will probably never find out from kuya what happened to rei. for rei's trauma, its kinda obvious that, that is what's going to be his character development.

as for garu, its harder to tell. i really want to know what'll happen when they get his memory back. based off misty vale & his EG rooms, Garu doesn't seem to be actively trying to recover his memories (heck his only reactions in ch 13 are fainting or switching to Karu). that said, i'd like to *think* that garu will accept his memories based off his optimistic response in EG. buuut i think his world might also fall apart. Karu seems to remember that humans "took advantage" of him somehow and he's on friendly terms with Rei, so it's possible Rei rescued/escaped with Karu. would Garu get mad at karu for not telling him or not protecting him enough? would Karu get mad at garu for being forced to front during all the experiments? if it turns out Rei was an active part of experimenting on Karu/Garu, Karu seems to understand him, but would Garu get pissed at them or scared of them?

also, i just wanna touch on something even darker. one of my theories a long time ago was that garu might've also been r*ped bc karu has SUCh a hangup about bottoming and being taken advantage of. In fact, Eiden calls Karu out on it during EB rooms, but Karu ignores the question. Anyways i thought, oh NU Carnival is such a cheerful game that it'll never go there. And then BOOM its confirmed in Rusted Nation that the devs are willing to go there. there's also the sex automaton in blade's memories. during that conversation, the researcher says Blade's design "does not have the functions for sex", which means he either didn't have a penis or it didn't function that way it does present-day. but because Blade can have sex now with a very human-like penis & cum, that makes me wonder if Blade was eventually upgraded (especially considering the noble that funded the research) and then tested out as a sexbot with the intentions of using sex to bait for assassinations.

so lee and the cold… i’m being so completely honest.. i haven’t thought about how the rise fam found out. i will probably make a sketch about it later cause now you got me thinking about it. i’m thinking that, maybe, just hear me out.. he’ll get cold..? and have a panic attack 😄😄 -more about that coming soon in sketch form:)

leo and donnie: lee is still the mom of the group, but in a way that his brothers respect him highly. lee is impressed by rise donnie and is proud of him but worries that he might accidentally pressure him too much like he sometimes did with 12 donnie. 12 leo is also scared for his brothers, in the way that they value themselves. he doesn’t want rise donnie to think that lee is proud of him because he’s smart, he wants him to know that he loves him for much more then that. trauma am i right:)) on a more light hearted level, the disaster twins are constantly competing with one another to impress lee (praise from their badass big brother) and for the longest time lee has no idea what is going on.

2012 raph is ridiculously protective of rise mikey. this doesn’t mean that he loves rise mikey any more then 12 mikey, it’s just that rise mikey is still very young and still acts like it, and raphs got a major soft spot for him. together they enjoy being sarcastic little shits(affectionate) to their brothers and they like to do art together. mikey uses his ‘youngest and smallest of them all’ powers to get constant piggyback rides from everyone, especially 12 raph. don’t mess with the short boys they will bite your knees off

for the weighted blankets, the 12 twins both use them(lee and raph). raph got one bc lee introduced them to him. rise donnie uses one, and weighted blankets are always kept in the lair if anyone wishes to use one. rise mikey has a few different hammocks in his room that he can change out or hang up all at once and a few of them are therapy hammocks that him and his brothers use to help with anxiety and sleep. basically they have all used one at one point and it just depends on the person.

for the trauma part… not all their problems are solved yet..🤫 but the 12 boys do their best to be there for them. to listen and not dismiss the fear or pain. rarely did the 12brothers get a break to stop and process what was going on and their lives were never normal. while they are there for the rise boys in every way they can be, let’s be honest they need to stop and figure themselves out too.

In the Wukongverse what is Wukong's and Macaque's singing voice like?

Oh I do Love me some singing hcs. Took me a while cus I bad at actually remembering singers. I'm just trying to add as many song links as possible.

LMK: These two's english VAs (Sean Schemmel & Alejandro Saab) have sung before, and I will repeat my thoughts. Whilst Macaque is the more "stage friendly" of the two and can interact with an audience and put on a show, Wukong is stupidly good at singing. Like, LMK!Mac is dumbfounded how good his Wukong is. Wukong's stage fright gets to him tho, so his voice cracks the second he detects anyone listening to him - only Mac, the kids, and baby monkeys know his true voice. He destroys everyone at drunk karaoke tho.

HeroIsBack: SWK's singing voice is initally very harsh (not use much in 500 years) but grows softer/more confident as he sings. I can almost hear it as being like the song in the film itself "The Feeling of Flying", just full of joy. Also dubbing bonus; Jackie Chan singing the Cantonese version of "I'll Make A Man Out of You" from Mulan (1998). HeroIsBack!LEM's voice is similarly underused but a hidden gem. Mostly reserved for lulling infant monkeys to sleep. A tenor like Thomas Sanders. Gets embarassed quickly because his singing voice "doesn't match his face" (Dasheng disagrees).

Reborn: You could say his warped view of his own demonic identiy hasn't exactly left Reborn!SWK a positive idea of his singing ability. His actual singing voice is surprisingly deep with a lot of octave range; example Jonathan Young. 100% would jam with anime opening songs. Secretly gets really excited when he duets. Reborn!LEM is much less confident in their performing ability than the other LEMs, his voice is much softer, quieter, and soprano-pitch. Ethereal almost; like Ben Whishaw in The Tempest. And this LEM might just sing "Ariel's Song/Full Fathom Five" too - since his six ears often "hear "pick up" songs of the future. May use his voice to guide the lost souls he chariots.

Netflix: This SWK do be singing, and he penned his own theme song! Hidden talent at composing? I hc that he's singing voice is the metal version of his theme as done by Voodoo Kung Fu & Ian Honeyman. Probably scares the other monkeys (sans Reborn!SWK who starts rocking) the first time they let him take the mic and he goes full heavy metal on them. Has a hidden softer tune only his pilgrims + LEM know about. Netflix!LEM would say that they'd rather eat glass than sing in public, but like their main inspo (Aubrey Plaza - "Get Happy") they are ridiculously good at swing/jazz style music where the singer interacts with/insults their audience. A good example of them singing (whether for a con/trick) would be Amber Gray in Hadestown.

NewGods: This SWK sounds like a smooth cruise /lounge singer. This man can bust out a Sinatra that'll make the room shake. He however can get really emotionally into the music and end up crying at the oddest songs. Good reference would be Richard Cheese. NewGods!LEM gots broadway vocals like Josh Groban, and will completely shred you with his Phantom of the Opera performance. Unless he decides to use his voice for mischief and starts singing filthy blues songs with his SWK.

2000sCartoon: I bet these two dont really flex their singing muscles much so they dont sound "good", but SWK loves him some travelling songs and shanties, and his LEM provides good backing. SWK has a crackly, higher pitched singing voice like George Salazar (Be More Chill + Percy Jackson Musical). 2000sCartoon!LEM's voice I can see being smoother like Ashe (of "to ashes" on youtube), and once he becomes more confident in himself; its one of the first clear distinctions the two monkeys can make between one another.

Meihouwang: I could see Shihou & Mihou having "younger-sounding" singing voices similar to Zach Callison (of Steven Universe fame), and Jeremy Jordan (Tangled Series + Death Note Musical) respectively. Absurdly good for monkeys with no formal musical training.

Smash Legends: This Wukong has a pretty good singing voice but he uses it for goofy "meme" songs (ex Loney Island) since he's actually a little mic shy. Has potiential for greatness. "Serious" singing voice is similar to Sam Tsui. Smash!LEM aka SixEars is a legit indie music star along the lines of a "faceless" nearly-online-exclusive artist - best comparasion I can give for his "typical" vocal ranges (remember perfect mimicry/pitch) is between Aly & AJ to Taron Egerton. Will leave the other monkeys in the dust in a competition.

No matter who's the "better" singer of all of them one thing is for certain; you turn on that karaoke machine around the SWKs and LEMs, and there's about to be a whole lot of monkey business.

but it happened, and when Max first realizes it she kind of freezes;

you'd be at a place like a skate park;

you with your rollerblades and Max with her skateboard;

and the sun was setting, making your hair shine and pulling Max into a trance;

Max almost falls off her skateboard whilst looking at you;

but you managed to catch her holding onto her arms and now you're so close and 'oh god', Max is whipped.

after Max comes to terms with the fact that she's very much in love;

she won't tell you right away;

she'll start by giving you hints, for example;

dates with Max consist of going skating, her being insistent on teaching you;

or going to the arcade, or cheap dinners that stay open until late hours of the night.

Max will 100% always be your partner in crime;

you wanna sneak into the teacher's class to copy some answers? She'll be distracting them;

you wanna pull a prank on the boys? She's got your back.

you and Max will go shopping together, she loves trying on the most ridiculous clothes with you;

and you will be stealing some kisses from each other in the fitting room;

you would be just pulling off your shirt as Max opens the curtain from your fitting room, quickly walking in with you before anyone sees;

you would be a giggling mess as she gently pushes you against the wall, giving multiple pecks to your smiling lips;

because Max's love language is action, touch.

she loves to show you off, bragging to everyone how you're hers and hers only.

you're the one she trusts the most with her secrets and insecurities;

she'll go to you whenever she has a nightmare or feels down;

you know just how to calm her down.

Max can be pretty jealous at times;

if the wrong person is giving you the wrong kind of attention she won't be quiet for too long;

most likely walking up to you and making up an excuse to drag you away;

sometimes you have to kiss her pout away.

movie nights all the way;

Max loves to stay home with you or go to the cinema and watch your favorite movies together.

the rest of her and your friends catch up with your relationship eventually, and they're happy, because now they know the reason why Max has been happier.

you make Max laugh as no one else can;

anyway:

buck and eddie don’t even realize that they had their first kiss until they pull away. they’ve been dancing around this moment for so long that when it finally happens it’s stupidly casual. it’s a blink and you’ll miss it moment. it’s an i’ve loved you all my life of course i’ll kiss you in hello moment. they laugh about it because it’s ridiculous and it’s eddie who leans in again because therapy eddie goes after what he wants and what he wants is buck’s lips on his!!!

the firefam don’t bet on them. it’s too big and too important and it took them a while to get here, you know? no money gets traded but buck and eddie don’t know that, so they keep their relationship a secret for the first few weeks. or they try to, at least, because they’re not incredibly successful. something something they’ve waited months for this, years for this, whole lifetimes for this. they fuck up when buck kisses eddie goodbye in the parking lot. everyone’s insanely happy for them.

i like to imagine they would have another kid. they’d adopt a little girl and she would drive them crazy. eddie was young with chris, buck was young with chris, and they’re a little older when the little girl comes around. enough that her endless energy exhausts them way faster than chris ever did. but they’re all in love with her (chris included, even if he’s a grumpy teenager about it). buck buys her too many little baby outfits despite the fact that she has all of jee-yun’s hand-me-downs. eddie kisses buck silly the first time he hears him call her mija.

they get engaged way too quick. buck moves in within the first two months, probably. why on earth would they wait? wouldn’t you rush to start the rest of your life if it suddenly looked like every dream you never let linger? wouldn’t you want to sink your hands into the head-rush feeling so it never goes away? they know their life is riskier than most and by god they have let fear and insecurities hold them back for far too long!!!! besides, isn’t marriage abour unconditional love? sickness health and all that shit? like they both haven’t seen each other at their absolute worst. like they don’t love each other more than anyone in the world. it’s an all encompassing sort of thing. and you can see it. it’s written all over their faces every time they look at each other. gay asses.

buck lets the will slip. i don’t quite know to who - probably maddie or hen considering the sperm donor thing. he wants to be a dad so bad, and he accidentally sort of kind of lets slip that he doesn’t want to be a back up dad. they raise an eyebrow. what does that mean? buck blushes and stutters and tries to dismiss it but they don’t let it go. he caves and admits that eddie put him in his will. that if something happens to him, christopher goes to buck. idk who it would be, but i do know they’d both call him an idiot.

also i personally headcanon buck speaks spanish. the man lived in south america. he at the very least understands it. eddie, however, does not know this, until buck is at his first diaz family reunion and everyone at the table is speaking spanish and buck…joins in. eddie’s face goes hot. sophia and adriana notice, because what are sisters for? they can’t even blame him, though. not when buck’s charming the pants off their aunts from mexico, laughing and blushing at all their compliments. eddie’s very thorough with him that night, kisses him the second he’s away from knowing, prying eyes. buck realizes he can kind of get away with anything so long as he says it in spanish.

i love morally gray langue de chat okay hear me out. (ramble incoming)

ive been talking about how contradictory this event was FOREVER and like at first i was just like Man this is bad writing but now im . I still think the same thing i doubt they were trying to make langue this way but i think they should be a little fucked up as a treat

remember how they used some of rogueforts earlier crimes to prove they hadnt stolen the statue?

but then they said this?

i dont know Perhaps im just an idiot and my only knowledge of law is ace attorney but that doesnt add up to me. How were they going to prove roguefort innocent of every crime they were being charged for when they presented some of their crimes as evidence??? also how was that morally correct, arguing someone you know is a criminal is innocent? and like. This wasnt them just them saying theyd lower rogueforts sentence. if they were to prove roguefort innocent of a SINGLE crime (the statue) how would that do anything to their 200 million year sentence??? theyd still be in jail for the rest of their life lol. it didnt really matter in the end because roguefort just up and dipped but that doesnt change how odd it all was

so no. langue de chat didnt just want to defend roguefort for the statue incident - they were planning on defending everything.

and as i mentioned before, they already used some of rogueforts crimes AS EVIDENCE. theyd probably have to do a bit of silly word tricks (lying) to make that seem possible !!!

this one scene where they say theyre not gonna resort to bribes and say theyre gonna be righteous and shit kind of Fucks everything up but. yknow. i like to imagine they just want to rely on their argument skills - they dont want to bribe people, thats cheating. Lying though? Thats a skill. thats impressive. anyone can bribe, but only a skilled lawyer would be able to lie in court and get away with it . a very not-so-righteous lawyer.

This is the only line even HINTING at them actually caring about if their clients are truly innocent or not though. all they talk about is wanting to be Popular and wanting to be The Best (which would come with being popular). they want to be famous thats their whole motive i love you you little motherfucker im gonna shove them down an elevator shaft (affectionate). By contrast there are so many lines from cappuccino talking about justice (though to be fair his morals are also clearly a little fucked. that sentence she gave roguefort????)

i also like how this hc contrasts with cappuccino,,, cappu will put Anyone in jail (probably. we've only ever seen her with roguefort) meanwhile langue will keep anyone out of jail if they think itll boost their reputation

of course none of this is canon, i doubt devsisters intentionally wrote them like this (esp since theyre supposed to be righteous) and also this could all be explained with The cookie run legal system is Super Duper Fucked Up. which is still true because of the ridiculous sentence cappu gave and how he was just allowed to add to it for something that wasnt even morally wrong let alone illegal of roguefort but . i just think its neat. morally gray langue is real To Me
