I do have one unpublished Tarlos ficlet that's kind of a Queen Charlotte inspired future fic that is the saddest thing I've ever written which is the result of @howtosingit saying "whatever you do, don't think about X" which of course meant that I did and I wrote it in a fever dream, cried then buried it in my gdocs.

yes and I love it! I've done collabs where we each write a chapter, one where we each wrote a chapter and then fully co-wrote the final chapter, a full co-write with @welcometololaland (that ended up morphing into each of us alternating chapters), and I'm in the process of another co-write with Lola atm.

What's a wip you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
I don't like to say never, but probably the SC paint & sip au
What are your writing strengths?
based on the comments I get - smut with feelings, banter/dialogue, characterisation
What are your writing weaknesses?
World building, pretty metaphors, I'm far too fond of run on sentences to the point where if I was beta reading my own writing there are SO MANY sentences that need to be cut down so that the reader can breathe.
Thoughts on dialogue in another language?
If it fits the character, I love it! I generally ask a native speaker to help me with translations for accuracy

A: One year canonically, although for shenanigans there is an alternative timeline where they stay for longer.
Q: Are there any refs of the characters?
A: Yep, but as of 05/30/2023, they’re WIP. Check #design references and #design blueprints.
Q: Can I do my own designs for Dadmare & Sunbeam?
A: Sounds fun, go ahead.
Q: How old are Nightmare and Dream?
A: Dream is 7, which is about how old he was before the apple incident. Nightmare is a few centuries old, I’d say about 400-or the immortal equivalent of his late 40s.
Q: How tall are Nightmare and Dream?
A: Adult NM and Dream are around the 5’5” range. By winter, Dadmare becomes more like 5’8” and his body changes/grows. Sunbeam is more like 3’5” and becomes 3’7” (and a half) by winter, which is very important to him.
Metric stuff:
Nightmare - begins at 165cm and grows to 175cm.
Dream - begins at 107cm and grows to 113cm.
Q: Is Passive Nightmare/Kid Nightmare going to show up later?

2. What's your total AO3 word count?
108,855, almost all of that coming from this year as I spent the last few months of last year getting back into writing by telling myself 'I'm just going to write. I won't post, so I don't need to worry how good they are'.
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Stargate Universe because those guys are in my brain and I'd die for them, but my next fic I'm posting is going to be Stargate Atlantis. I also have 2 WIPs from Durham County as my brain went 'hey the SGU fandom is pretty small... You know what would be really funny?'
Back in the day on ffnet (*checks* 15 years ago jesus christ!) I wrote for Doctor Who, Torchwood, Star Trek: TNG, Blakes 7, Invasion, X-Men: The Movie, Demons, House, NCIS, Prison Break, and Being Human. 87 stories with 169,449 words. I'll have a quick look through them and see if there's anything worth reposting, but I doubt it. 14 years olds aren't usually very good, ya know? Though I do look at Reviews: 220 and think yikes, I did not have social anxiety when I was that age did I?
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
down here they call us animals has 32, but the rest of them are single digits because SGU is such a small fandom.
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
Always, love talking to people about my fics and it's not going to encourage people to keep commenting if they get no response from the author. Sometimes it takes a while because my spoons can get funky.
6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
so i bite my tongue and hope for blood, where Telford gets sexually assaulted by a drugged Rush, then goes on a killing rampage with none of the recovery (if there even is any beyond pretending it never happened) shown and nothing is really resolved.
there was a devil in my soul i think we activated, set during 2x07 The Greater Good, extends the scene aboard the derelict spaceship between Young and Rush. Young has a ton of trauma about Carmen, David, Riley, and P2S-569, and ends the fic in a pretty suicidal place.
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
This was a bit tougher to answer as I usually have some angst hanging around, but i'm a stolen car in a parking garage, where at the end Rush and Telford are bantering back and forth, sharing-time is happening, and they also have their first kiss in this fic, after having been fucking for a while.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Nah, it's much better than it was back in the day. At least in the fandoms I frequent.
9. Do you write smut? If so what kind?
Oh, do I! 😄 Every gay kind that takes my fancy, from vanilla to super kinky. There are of course a few kinks I avoid reading/writing about as I'm sure everyone does, but if anyone has a specific kink they'd like to see me write hit me up and we'll talk!
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
I'm afraid not. I'm just not that into them. 🤷♂️ (The fact that if I filter out crossovers on the SGU AO3 page I lose ~400 fics is a crime!)
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
I don't think so.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
No.
13. Have you ever cowritten a fic before?
Back in the day me and a friend wrote many hundreds of thousands of words RPing the 10th Doctor and the Master. RPing isn't allowed on ffnet so I received a warning and they deleted the fic. Thankfully I still have every single one of those fics due to being anal about backing stuff up on memory sticks, so if you'd like them @chosennightmares let me know. ❤️️
14. What's your all-time favourite ship?
Telford/Rush, if I have to pick just one, though I could chuck Young in there and go through every combination possible and still be very happy.
15. What's a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?
Nothing currently posted as due to having a lot of unfinished fics on ffnet I'm adverse to posting things without at least having an ending in mind. But there's an SGU fic titled Your Own Worst Enemy which was started in August last year and delves into rape recovery for Rush, Young, Telford, and Destiny herself. I need to be in the right headspace to write it and despite having 8 chapters of it completed I don't know how it's going to end up.
16. What are your writing strengths?
Developing different versions of Rush, Young, and Telford and have all of them still be in character despite being so different.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Getting the end of the fic written, knowing how to sign things off. The promised SGA fic sat 95% completed for fucking ages where all I could do whenever I scrolled to it was stare.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
Knowing the state Google Translate is in, I probably wouldn't risk it, no. It does annoy me when I'm reading and I'm told to scroll to the author's notes at the bottom of the fic to see what's been said and then having to scroll all the way back up, potentially losing my place. Much prefer people using the HTML hover text option.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Doctor Who. My mum was involved in putting together Who Cons when I was a kid, so I grew up watching the classic series.
20. Favourite fic you've ever written?
a memory, a distant echo I really enjoyed writing it, fleshing out David's character, and really digging into his psyche. It's a tough read, but I'm very proud of how it turned out.

hey!! tbh idk why im sending this in but i feel like you could relate or like understand my emotions essentially but basically i used to be so big on writing and i did it a lot until i just quit and its been almost 2 years since i last wrote anything,, but like now i've just been brimming with ideas and i have no clue how i should go about it. it's messing with my head cause i havent felt this inclined to write in so long, ive already started writing bits but i dont know how long this will continue until im burnt out.. im sorry for this lil rant your work is some of my favourite i hope your summer is going great!! <3

i would just start with getting those ideas onto a page. literally just ten words if need be, the general plot or theme or concept ur trying your hand at, and just leaving it there to stew; i have like 400 notes in my phone that are just like
and then i either leave them alone forever (80% of the time) or i keep dwelling on it and adding to it and thinking about it and i realize i really like this idea and decide to work on it for real (20% of the time!!!)
and i say this in the nicest way possible: who cares if u burn out?? THAT'S OK!!!! even if you just write down a thing or two before you're like 'nah ok im done for now', at least you got it out!! and just like you're doing now, maybe that inspiration will come back and you'll be ready in a week, or a month, or another year to get another stab at it!!
some of my favorite things i've ever recently written have come from random shitty wip ideas i had like, back in 2018, that i just wrote down and immediately forgot about, only to come back and be like "i was kinda onto something here...'

i said the fae sisters for my other post but i really like noelle’s husband claye! i think my female sims are always wayyy more attractive than my male sims, but claye might pull in front of noelle tbh. he looks much better with the emerald eyes (the cartoony ones)
also i consider all my sims to be good people, and claye’s kindness comes from him always taking care of leila and israel because noelle is off at work and such. oh and noelle’s way more...experienced than him when it comes to relationships

no one really comes to mind, i haven’t been focused on like one specific sim lately

this came,,,,, out of NOWHERE, it was not in my WIPs at all. also i thought it would be like 400 words WHOOPS it’s not. although i will say there’s not a lot of actual tickling, so be warned. but anyways i think it’s cute so enjoy!
“No teasing this time.”
“Got it!”
“I mean it.”
“I know!”
“Are you sure?” Virgil asked, arms wrapped protectively around himself. “Do you think you can hold back?”
Patton tsked. “Virgil, just because I won’t be teasing you doesn’t mean I have to hold myself back. I’ll still have lots of fun just using my ten good friends!” He grinned, holding up his fingers and wiggling them in the air.
Virgil coughed, face growing slightly pink. “I-- okay. You’re literally already teasing, but fine. Just-- I wanna see how long I can hold out, and I can’t do that when you tease, okay?”
“Virgil, I’ve got you.” Patton held up one hand and crossed his heart solemnly. “I won’t tease you at all. I promise.”
Virgil relaxed slightly, and he nodded. “Okay. Just, um, give me a second.” He scooted further back on the bed, making sure his pillows were situated properly, before laying down with his arms by his sides.
In his peripheral, he saw Patton shift, but before the moral side could do anything, Virgil sat back up.
“Wait, I just remembered, I wanted to--”
He stopped talking, gesturing with his hands for another second before he sighed. In one swift movement he unzipped his hoodie, revealing-- he blushed slightly-- his bare chest. He wanted to push himself today, and no shirt or hoodie was the best way to start. Still, he realized he couldn’t look at Patton as he pulled the coat off and threw it off the bed, falling back into his position with a huff.
“Okay, I’m ready now.”
His eyes were open, but he kept them on the back wall, pointedly not looking at Patton. Still, after a few seconds of inaction, his anticipation bested his embarrassment, and he took a quick peek at the other side.
Patton was sitting in the same position next to him on the mattress, but now there was a soft and adoring smile on his face, much to Virgil’s displeasure.
“Patton,” he protested. Patton blinked in confusion.
“What? What did I do?”
“I-- I can’t-- don’t look at me like that,” Virgil stammered, eyes flicking between the wall and Patton’s face.
Now Paton’s smile went from confusion to playful. “Like what?”
“Like-- like you’re teasing!”
“I’m not teasing! I’m just smiling! Aren’t I allowed to smile?”
Virgil shook his head, his own smile tugging at his lips. “No. No smiling.”
“Oh, no smiling,” Patton repeated. “Okay, got it.”
He straightened his face into the most neutral expression Virgil had ever seen on him. He leaned forward, raising his hands as he got closer to Virgil’s stomach, and--
“Nah! Not that either!” Virgil burst, twisting his body away from Patton’s hands. “Stop it!”
Patton’s stern facade broke as he pulled back. “What was I doing?”
“You were just--” Virgil couldn’t explain why seeing Patton prepare to tickle him with no emotion was so flustering, but it was. He huffed a weak laugh. “It was teasy. I don’t know.”
Patton gave a soft laugh. “Virgil, if everything I do is teasy no matter what, then I don’t think we’re gonna get very far.”
“No, no, we can. I can do this.” Virgil took a deep breath before steeling himself, nodding in determination. “I’m ready.”
Patton mimed zipping his lips and throwing away the key, before he too took a deep breath, and slowly raised his fingers again. He inched them closer and closer to Virgil’s stomach, and the anxious side kept his eyes on them the entire time. This was fine, this was fine, he could do this, he could--
And then he imagined just how badly those fingers would tickle when they finally reached his stomach, and he rolled to the other side with another stream of helpless giggles.
“Wahahait!”
Patton broke into his own laughter, throwing his hands up in faux exasperation.
“Virgil, is there anything I can do that won’t tease you before we even start?”
Virgil couldn’t respond through his giddy laughter. God, Patton literally hadn’t even done anything that time, and he still couldn’t handle it. He took another peek at Patton’s hands, now folded patiently in his lap, and almost burst out laughing yet again.
Patton raised an eyebrow. “Maybe if you close your eyes, you won’t get so nervous beforehand?”
Virgil thought it over for a moment before nodding, despite the feeling in his gut that told him this wouldn’t work. “I’ll try it. Maybe give me a countdown?
“Works for me!” Patton replied. He waited until Virgil’s eyes were securely shut, and he lifted his hands as quietly as he could.
“Five. Four. Three--”
“Nope!” Virgil burst out, eyes shooting open. “Nope. Nope nope nope, no countdown. Don’t tell me when you’re doing it.”
Patton giggled, his head dropping into his hands for just a moment before nodding. “Okay, Virgil, whatever you say.”
Virgil huffed again, but he closed his eyes once more, leaving Patton alone above his ticklish body.
This time, Patton waited for a bit in the hopes that it would lower Virgil’s guard before he starts. He slowly lifted his hands above his torso, fingers wiggling involuntarily as he hovered them over different spots, pondering where to start. The bottom of his ribs was a pretty good spot, but maybe something closer to his hips would be a more gentle starting point. Of course, his sides were particularly sensitive, but Patton was also tempted to skip to the main event that was Virgil’s tummy button.
He continued to move his hands around as he pondered. Decisions, decisions--
His train of thought was caught off as Virgil began making a tight-lipped humming sound, his chest shaking with captured giggles.
“Patton,” he whined, “you’re taking so long, I can’t-- can’t take the waiting!” His words dissolved into giggles yet again. Patton’s smile grew even wider at the sight of a blushy, giggly Virgil, whom he hadn’t even touched yet.
“Sorry, Virge,” he replied. “I’ll start right now.” He moved his hands over Virgil’s stomach, but stopped himself as Virgil choked out a laugh.
“No, I said no teasing, don’t tease me--”
Virgil peeked one eye open as he spoke, only for both eyes to burst wide open at the sight of Patton’s ten wiggly fingers hovering right above his belly button.
“Patton!” he gasped. “No--!”
Before he could even finish his sentence, Virgil was lost to a helpless stream of pent-up laughter, his stomach sucking in on instinct in order to get as far away from Patton as possible.
“Stoho-- stohohop-- stop!”
Patton looked down at him in pure delight. “Virge, I am literally not doing a thing to you.”
Virgil groaned, rocking from one side to the next as he laughed. “I-- I-- I can still feel it!” he cried, writhing on the mattress in desperation from the phantom tickles. His laughter came faster and faster, and although the occassional snorts he let out were illegally adorable, Patton soon realized with a start that they meant Virgil wasn’t getting enough air.
He pulled his hands back, practically sitting on them to keep them out of Virgil’s sight.
“I’m calling yellow, Virgil,” he said. “Can you try to take deep breaths for me?”
Virgil panted through his laughter, looking at him with a stretched smile. “Whahaha-- why?”
Patton gave him a small grin as he replied, “Because you’re already completely keyed up and I haven’t even touched you yet. We need to calm you down.”
After a few moments, Patton saw Virgil close his eyes and forcefully take in a deep breath. A few more seconds passed, and Virgil released the breath, and the cycle started over. There were a few stray giggles here and there, but for the most part it only took a minute for Virgil to calm himself down.
His eyes opened, looking at Patton with a somewhat sheepish expression.
“Sorry,” he said. “I didn’t know that would be so bad.”
“Don’t apologize!” Patton insisted. “You can’t control your reactions, and I’m the one who called yellow anyway. Nothing’s your fault.”
He paused for a moment before slowly moving to lie down next to Virgil on the bed, taking one of his hands and lacing their fingers together.
“Although-- and I don’t wanna sound mean,” he said slowly, before meeting Virgil’s eyes and giving him a teasing grin. “But I can’t believe I didn’t even have to touch you to make you break.”
Virgil groaned, a blush rising to his cheeks. “Patton--”
“I mean, I wasn’t even trying! Am I that good, or are you that sensitive?”
“Patton!” Virgil interjected, giving Patton a light shove with their interlocked hands. His smile was evident in his voice as he mumbled, “It’s probably both.”
Patton’s smile softened into a fond grin, and he turned on his side, one hand proping up his head as he looked down at the other.
“Want some non-teasy, no-anticipation-required tickles?”
Virgil huffed a laugh, rolling his eyes in a mix of embarrassment and fond exasperation.
“I mean, since we’re already here...”
Patton didn’t respond, merely smile and lifted his free hand to begin tracing patterns over Virgil’s bare skin. As the anxious side squirmed, light giggles spilling out yet again, it didn’t take long for Patton to realize that, while there was nothing wrong with teasing, the payoff was much, much better.

Writer’s Questionnaire
tagged by: @negotiator-on-site and @deviantramblings . Thank you guys for the tag! I spent way too long thinking about these tbh.
Short stories, novels, or poems?
For reading? Novels. I love absolutely delving into a world and completely immersing myself in it. In my experience, poems/short stories are like looking through a window: the more you look, the more you’ll probably see. Reading a novel, or an entire series, is more like walking through a door into another world, and that’s exactly what I want from a story. I want it to completely consume me.
With all of that being said, what’s the exact word count that draws the line between a short story and a novel? 10,000 words might be a short story, but is 25,000 still considered a short story? 100,000? 300,000? Where is the line drawn? Tbh, I’m 100% down with any long-ish story that draws me in.
As for writing… Imma keep it real with you chiefs, the shortest stories I’ve ever written are for D:BH. Pretty much every other fic of mine is 25+ pages, and a couple of the longer ones are closer to, or exceed, 180 pages. I haven’t finished those. They’re all drafts, so to speak, and the amount of editing needed makes me balk whenever I think about it, but they’re there. The stories that I’ve actually finished are all short-ish stories lol (at least in comparison to some of the other stuff I’ve written).
What genre do you prefer reading?
FANTASY!!!! We live in a non-fiction world that can be quite depressing at times. If I’m going to fling myself into a story, I want it to be magical. I want it to have something that this world doesn’t. I want magic and dragons and mystery and soulmates and forbidden love and all the crazy shit.
What genre do you prefer writing?
Fantasy/fiction.
Are you a planner or a write-as-I-go kind of person?
It depends on the story. Most times, I’ll write one scene and it develops into an entire plotline as I write it. Other times, like with Of Blood and Biocomponents for example, I’ll spend a lot of time planning everything out before I write it so I can work in a number of clues and Chekov’s guns’, etc.
What music do you listen to while writing?
When I really need to focus, I’ll listen to anything instrumental. That can range from soundtracks (e.g. from The Last of Us, LotR, Hans Zimmer’s stuff), to more individualized and upbeat songs (e.g. Lindsey Stirling, Peter Gundry, Max Richter, Hidden Citizens) to classical (e.g. Chopin, Wieniawski, Mozart), or even just ambiance rain sounds on youtube etc. Otherwise, when I need to get in the mood for a certain scene I have entire playlists dedicated to evoking a certain emotion (e.g angst -obviously-, sadness, love, adrenaline rushes).

Only around like… 16? (Excluding all of the half-formed ideas and prompts in my “Graveyard” folder, that is). Which is incredibly surprising to me? I thought it’d be way more. However, most of those WIPs are all… heartbreakingly long and only half-finished, so like ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
If someone were to make a cartoon out of you, what would your standard outfit be?
Lace-up combat boots, black jeans, and a random, probably blank, t-shirt.

Hi, I’m Jayde, an average human person who thinks obsessively writing and learning new stuff are fun activities. I look like Idc but I actually care too much; I’m a ride-or-die bitch. Intovert™ (I would much rather have a first conversation w/ someone be about the trolly problem or systems theory instead of the weather). Often low-key enraged by society.
Do you like incorporating people you actually know into your writing?
Aspects of them? Of course. Actually writing them into a story? Nope. I totally draw on my experiences with certain people to help me write. That’s a given with any writer. However, unless I’m writing a biography on them with a full Chicago-style bibliography then I leave real people the heck alone.
Are you kill-happy with characters?
Depends on the characters. I have killed off a couple, but my soul is fueled on angst and there’s only so much of that a single death can provide. Nah, it’s usually better if people are alive and just… injured or... problematic.
Coffee or tea while writing?
I’m usually most productive writing-wise at night, so it’s either decaffeinated green tea or hot chocolate for me (bc I do try to have some kind of sleep schedule even if I fail with that goal).
Slow or fast writer?
So, so slow.
Where/who/what do you find inspiration from?
Anything, really. Sometimes an idea will just pop into my head and I’ll have to write it. Other times, it’ll start with a feeling, a situation, or an experience that slowly morphs into a fic the more I think about it.
If you were put into a fantasy world, what would you be?
Idk what I would be, but I’d love to be literally anything/anyone with some kind of magic or special ability. Like, bruh, I’m already human, gimme something else. Gimme some of the good shit.
Most fave book cliche? Least fave book cliche?
(Well-written) LOVE TRIANGLES AND MUTUAL PINING!!!!
I’m so fuckn horny on main for a good love triangle. When they’re done badly, they’re atrocious. That’s a given. But when they’re done well??? Hot damn. Like the kind of love triangles in ACoTaR, the Shatter Me series, or even the Trylle series (which first got me into it all). The kind where problems develop naturally between the MC and the first love interest, where the MC has to work with the “bad guy” for some reason or other and it turns out he’s actually super fuckn dope (*cough* Rhysand *Cough*). The kind where the more MC learns about the people she’s/he’s/they’re around, the more their feelings start to shift based on that knowledge.
I do not mean the kind where the MC just can’t make up her/his/their mind bc omg Hot Person #1 is so hot and looks to be carved from marble, but omg Hot Person #2 is also so hot, looks to be carved from marble, and is also mysterious.
As for a cliché I hate (if the poorly written love triangle doesn’t count in and of itself), I seriously dislike the damsel-in-distress thing. Don’t get me wrong, that card can be very well played in some cases, but when it’s the only card in the whole damn deck for 200, 300, 400+ pages? Nah, brah. I’m out. I’m certainly not asking for BAMF MC every time, but like,,, at least give the MC a goddamn spine you absolute cowards.
Fave scenes to write?
Pining and angst, baby.
Most productive time of day for writing?
The ungodly hours between night and day, when the outside world falls quietly into slumber and one’s imagination runs wild in the dark.
Reason for writing?
I started writing because I had some ideas and realized that nobody could/would write them in the exact way I imagined them except for me? I’ve continued writing because it has almost become a coping mechanism to explore and organize my thoughts and feelings and daydreams in some kind of coherent way. Plus it’s fun.

Favorite Fic: Don’t make me pick between my babies! Harry Potter and the Incubus Affair was the most fun to write, because I got to play with the tropes a lot. But I am also really pleased with Happily Ever After (Ginny/Luna Time traveling femslash) for similar reasons, and with Snakes and Ladders.

Hardest Fic: Maybe my @hd-erised fic. I still have two unfinished false starts sitting in my draft folder.
Otherwise, Familia Est... I actually still don’t like this fic. I was hard to the deadline and cut about 7k of other POV scenes to get something with an ENDING handed in on time. In retrospect I should have just dropped out or given in to the string of vignettes this thing wanted to be.
Also, the final chapter of She drags my world awake is still 500 words from finished and has been for months :-/
Do You Plan to Take Prompts in 2017? Yes. But as usual I’m not sure how many I’ll fill. I only took two this year (he Huntress' Heart and Late Nights). But I did do a LOT of fests which is a similar challenge.
What was the best thing about 2016? Probably falling hard, fast and head over heels for the Harry Potter fandom. I’ve made some great friends, stayed up late writing all the words with the HD Writers Room, and generally rediscovered and uncovered new ways of reading one of the books I grew up on. Also, I found out my spouse reads fanfic! Harry Potter fanfic specifically, not sure if it is nice or scary... tbc!
What was the worst thing about 2016? Apart from, you know, 2016? Writers block. I know it doesn’t look like it, but at the start of the year I really wasn’t feeling any of my usual outlets (which sucked even more because I needed them). I can’t believe I’ve left H&H fans hanging for 6 months! I love you guys, sorry for being the worst!
Any last thoughts for 2016? Nah. Bring on 2017. And my latest obsession - the DC verses and superluthor pairings! All the Lena Luthor/Kara Danvers and Lex Luthor/Clark Kent smut - coming soon, from a Kitty near you!
Goals for 2017
I signed up for @gywo - so write 200,000 words!
Write my novel (lesbian space pirates!)
Finish She drags my world awake so I can start publishing the fics that come after!
