Word find tag (destiny, dead, dry, door, dang)
@mjjune tagged me to search my WIP for destiny, dead, dry, door, dang. Thanks!
📝 Search for the given words in your WIP. If you don't have a word, you can use a variation on it or a word with a similar meaning with help from thesaurus.com
These are from Spin Cylinder...
Tumblr media
DESTINY FATE
Fate, if you exist, consider yourself tempted.
DEAD
I work well under pressure. I only work at all under pressure. I only do anything when there’s a deadline hanging like a guillotine blade over the back of my neck, even if I have to put it there myself. Especially if I put it there myself.
DRY
It’s dry outside and there’s a crispness to the air. I turn my collar against the cold touch of nostalgia, but its fingers still find their way to the back of my neck.
DOOR
There’s a new chill in the air from the door I left open before sleep found us, but the warmth of your skin chases away the creeping sense of disconnection I always feel in places with this level of anonymity.
DANG[EROUS]
I do what I’m told and a wave of desire rips through me. You, detached and dangerous. Hollow and inevitable. And I have never needed anyone or anything so much.
Tumblr media
Tagging @starlit-hopes-and-dreams, @starscribes, @sunset-a-story and @tabswrites if you'd like to do it, with an open tag for anyone else who wants to join in.
The words to search your WIP for are before, again, now, and never 💙

Find the Word Tag
I was tagged by @tabswrites in this post here. I was also tagged here by @kaylinalexanderbooks. Thank you!
My words (round 1): try, bright, teeth and smile
My words (round 2): tool, personal, appear, sour
Gently tagging (no pressure): @oh-no-another-idea @verba-writing + open tag
Your words: bristle, teem, small, perchance, sound
All of these come from the various TPOT-related short stories I've got hanging around!
Try - Are You Nobody, Too?
I whirl around, stupid Stella’s stupid voice in my stupid brain. “Don’t you dare try anything, Henry Bailey. I’m trusting you, and if you—” “Jeez, Lucy.” He sighs and takes a step back. “This doesn’t seem much like trust, does it?”
Bright - Are You Nobody, Too?
Outside, the wind picks up. Autumn is in full swing, with maple leaves now the colour of crabapples, some of them already starting to fall and coat the ground, painting it the hues of the season—sun-bright yellow, brilliant orange, and of course, blood red.
Teeth - When the Snow Falls
At the graveness of his son’s tone, and how it perfectly imitated the dour seriousness of a stern-faced schoolmaster or perhaps a proselytizing pastor, Dad muffled a snort of laughter and pressed his teeth into his knuckles.
Smile - Are You Nobody, Too?
“One week,” I say. A smile spreads across his face. “A few days off. Time to practice. And then in a week, I’ll take you up on your stupid offer. And I’ll win.”
Tool / Personal - As Good As Gold, and Better
...I put my attention back on Will. I didn’t really know what I was doing when I told him to help the children put their ornaments on the tree, but he’s doing a splendid job, so much that I almost want to let my hands fall still so I can keep watching him. He’s got this great silly smile on his face every time he kneels down to talk to one of them, and even though they’re so much smaller, none of them seem the slightest bit frightened. One of the little girls—of course, it’s the one with personal space issues, the one who crawled under my legs earlier—even leaps into his arms out of sheer excitement to put her messily drawn star as high upon the tree as she can reach.
Appear - It Isn't Much, But It is Enough For Me fun fact it's been retitled and it's now called Making Home
“Don’t play with fire unless you want to get burned,” Colette echoed, glaring him right into the kitchen, though Jamie could see the laughter trying to fight its way onto her face. Her grin faltered as she caught Jamie’s eye, and they both seemed to have the same thought at the same time. When Jamie glanced over at Geoff, he, too, appeared to be thinking it—the creeping sense that Colette’s warning applied to more than Will’s childish aversion to work.
Sour Bitter - Are You Nobody, Too?
He is, and maybe I’m a fool for taking him up on his offer, but for the first time in weeks, I’m feeling something other than the empty dread these long, bitter days have brought.

Find the word tag
Thank you for the tag @druidx.
I've got a bunch of these word find tags in my queue, and I'm finally getting back around to them. Will be posting several over the next few days.
My words to find were effort, entry, ear, error, & expression.
Passing the (optional) tag to @authoralexharvey, @alainastrauss, @ceph-the-ghost-writer, @talesofsorrowandofruin, @theprissythumbelina, @squarebracket-trick, and the usual open tag to anyone else who wants it.
Your words to find shall be please, space, surprise, melancholy, & unassuming.
Effort: Empty Names - 10 - Cleanup
“Please, let me help you.  You’re safe here,” she says as she takes his hand.  Or at least, she thinks that’s what she says.  She never actually got to practice speaking the language with anyone else before now.
There’s a moment of horrendous silence as Dis!ma*s’s feet touch the ground.  He makes one slow blink with horizontally closing eyelids and then doubles over.  Laughing.  He says something but it's fast enough and interrupted by gasps of laughter that Lacuna can’t follow.
“I’m sorry?” she says on reflex before remembering the language barrier. “I mean, I apologize.”  The latter sentence sends Dis!ma*s into a renewed fit of what Lacuna really hopes is amusement as the rainwater shakes off of him.
“Your pronunciation is so garbage it was half gibberish and half propositioning him,” Bridgewood says from the other side of the carriage.  He’s not literally laughing at her, but he may as well be with the face he’s making.  “And then you -”
“Okay, okay, I think I get it!” Lacuna’s voice cracks as her face grows hot with embarrassment and frustration.  She tries to remember gestures that she’d read up on for some culturally appropriate sign of contrition but draws a blank.
Recovering, Dis!ma*s stands up straight and speaks again, slow and loud this time.  “I apologize,” he starts and Lacuna immediately sees where she went wrong with the pronunciation but has no idea how to make her mouth form the right phoneme.  “You surprised me.  It has been a difficult day.  Thank you for trying.”
Or at least, the parts Lacuna can parse are something along those lines.
“He says getting hit on at the end of the worst couple days of his life was too absurd to deal with, but A for effort on the welcoming attempt,” Bridgewood offers by way of translation.
Entry: Empty Names - 3 - Dance Partners
The girl was surprised at how steady her hands were as she punched in the keyless entry code for the pickup.  She was the most scared she’d ever been in her life and yet there was something else.  Relief at having gotten away?  Excitement?  Thrill?  A feeling of power after having stared death in the eye then punched it in the face?  She smirked as she opened the door and climbed inside.  That last one had a nice ring to it.
Fish out the keys, start the engine, buckle her seatbelt, change the radio to something less sad, and she was off.  Or so she thought until she felt a bump backing out of the parking spot.  The girl looked in the rearview mirror and saw her pursuer once more, now holding onto the back of the truck.  She changed gears and pressed the gas, speeding forward and bouncing over the parking blocks between the spaces.
Ear: Empty Names - 20 - Changeling Child
It surprises Ashan just how light Lacuna is when she falls forward into his arms.  He is barely even eye level with her shoulder on the rare occasions she stands up straight, but he realizes now just how much she is skin and bones beneath the loose-fitting clothing she always seems to favor.
“Don’t tell Eris,” Lacuna breathes into his ear before passing out.
Error: Empty Names - 16 - Mall Rats
Echo Plaza, a place that becomes more aptly named with each passing year.
A mere three decades ago this place would have been teaming wall to wall with shoppers from Backstage and beyond.  Wide-eyed newbies who mistakenly thought it would be a good place to ease themselves into things.  Paratech hobbyists looking for the newest offworld imports to reverse engineer.  Teenage witch covens staking out corners of spellbookstores and food courts.  Offworld travelers taking advantage of their multi-day anchor world hub layover to go sightseeing.  Fairies playing tricks from the cover of palm fronds and aerial shrubbery.  Naiads presiding over the grand fountains and granting small blessings in exchange for the coins thrown in. The list went on.
Back then, when the ideal of the shopping mall as cultural centers of commerce and socialization occupying a prominent place in the collective consciousness brought Echo Plaza into being and sustained it and its occupants with an effervescent zest for life, vendors would kill for a storefront on the young pocket dimension’s main concourse.  Quite literally, as Sullivan knows from personal experience and paychecks.  In those days just being here would make everything feel exciting and wondrous.  In these window displays the kitsch became cool and the mildly uncommon became alluringly exotic.
Now there are more marble statues than people.  The grand fountains are all long dry.  Food court menu screens proclaim cryptic messages over blue error backgrounds.  Shadowy suggestions of mannequins linger in gutted boutiques at the edge of a flickering neon haze.
The golden age of the shopping mall has passed, and even the subcultural revival of the concept is inextricably intertwined with emptiness and signal decay.  None but the most stubborn of holdouts are willing to invest property in a pocket dimension on its last legs before dissolution.  Only the most dedicated seekers of aesthetic and pursuers of the niche bother to put up with the permeating air of nostalgia and melancholy.
Expression: Empty Names - 19 - Shire
It’s actually two someones walking up the sidewalk toward the unassuming safehouse, and they’re not any of the local residents that Sullivan now knows by sight after the length of his unsleeping stakeout.  The woman in front is of a middling height, similar to Sullivan’s own.  Auburn hair loose down to the shoulders, purple-framed glasses, beige knit sweater, red scarf, blue jeans.  Checking an old model flip phone as if verifying the address.  Some niggling familiarity about her appearance that Sullivan can’t quite place.
The second woman, walking stiff-backed one pace behind and a shoulder-width to the left, towers head-and-shoulders over her companion - no, her superior, unless Sullivan misses his mark.  Silver hair pinned back in an elaborate bun, expressionless face, amber brooch pinned to a white cravat, dress of maroon so dark it’s almost black with so much frills and lace that it leaps out of the realm of antique and into the territory of gothic.
Sullivan blinks through his filters and the taller woman’s face takes on a porcelain sheen and the ball-jointed segmentation of her hands becomes apparent.  Another blink and the next filter reveals the leash of metaphysical strands linking the two women heart-to-heart.  A witch and her arcane doll?  Sullivan didn’t think they had those in this world cluster.  No, far more likely to be a superficial similarity born of convergent evolution.  More likely an unorthodox familiar bond with a construct.  Either way, he suspects that once the mage is dealt with (witch, wizard, or otherwise is hard to say without seeing her in action) then that should cut the puppet strings on the doll and make for easy pickings.

Word Find Tag
I was tagged by @kaylinalexanderbooks <3
My words: accept, appreciate, access, advice
Your words: bleed, breathe, behave, bargain
And I am tagging, if you want to do it, @sarandipitywrites @aria-benedetto @pleasestaywithmedarling @winterandwords and as always an open tag
Those are wonderful words. They all appear in Sweet Little Lies (WIP Intro), and only 1-3 times each 😅
Accept
“Oh Laurent, do you think I’m that naive? Do you think I believed for one second you were just taking a nice evening stroll when…” She didn’t finish her sentence. She didn’t think he’d be talking to her about this if there were people in earshot, but she wasn’t going to risk it. “I have long accepted that you treat the truth as an option rather than a necessity.” “And yet you’re here with me,” he mumbled. “And yet I am here with you.”
Appreciate
“How are the Fiery Wastrels selling?” he asked. “Not at all. I don’t have many customers I would inflict that upon.” “But you do have customers you would inflict that upon?” Aurelia laughed again. With him around, she found herself laughing and smiling more than ever. “Two or three,” she admitted. “Don’t worry, you’re safe. No ginger, and no chili.” “I appreciate it.”
Access
“I’ve been thinking,” he said. He was sitting on the stairs. “Some of those old buildings have direct access to the sewers. Do you know if this one has?” “I don’t think so?” “Hm.” His breathing turned strained as he pulled himself up. “You mentioned a backdoor. I didn’t see one?” “It’s in the storage room. I never use it.” “Mind if I check?”
Advice
Was it too early to call it love? Every time he visited, with every teasing word, every stolen touch, and every thoughtful gesture, she fell a bit more for him. He seemed earnest in his intentions but moved slowly, and Aurelia had the feeling that if she wanted more, she would have to take the next step. A few times, she had gotten close. When he said farewell in that tone that promised he would come back and took her hand with fingers that were so warm and gentle. She opened the window and let the nightly breeze cool her glowing cheeks. Some of the others had seeing partners. Perhaps she could ask them for advice.

Thanks for the tag @inkovert
My words are father, black, bitter and frame
From Nightshade
father
It took a few days for her channeling to return to normal. Her father never came to see her. He never called her to his office. He never praised her for her success. It didn’t matter. She’d been given a mission and she’d carried it out. Ren didn’t expect praise after completing a mission. Neither did anyone else in the Syndicate. They were simply doing their duty. It should be the same for her.
black
The room was dark, the blackness almost tangible. She couldn't see Nix, but she heard him let out a shaky breath before his voice cut through the darkness. “What are you doing here?” She smiled. Even without sight, he knew it was her.
bitter
“Hey this isn’t so bad,” he said before finishing the cup. Nix grimaced. He knew from experience that Kaori's medicines had a strong bitter flavor. “Try not to move your shoulder much until the wound heals,” Kaori said as she gathered up the remains of the herbs they had purchased. She didn’t offer to leave any for the Peacekeeper, even though they had been bought with his money.
From Beyond the Darkness
frame
Thea wrenched open the crooked front door and leaned wearily against the cracked frame, her breathing heavy. The fading evening light drifted through the missing window panes of their small house.  “You’re back early,” Kai said as he turned to greet her. His smile quickly faded when he saw her. He abandoned the pot he was stirring at the small stove in the corner and limped toward her with quick, uneven steps.

Word find tag (Hope, home, hold, hole)
@winterandwords tagged me to search my WIP for hope, home, hold, and hole
Hope
Kohl mostly lined her round dark eyes that had seen its more than fair share of hardship and suffering and loss of hope in humanity.
Home
“An enchanting home it is, madame,” complimented Justin. He hadn’t fully appreciated it, but this bedchamber appeared more comfortable than his own even when it was in a more luxurious home.
Hold
He hissed and winced, but Clarisse gave him a measure of comfort by whispering words of comfort, encouraging him to hold on as she applied the medicine on the wound.
Hole
He took off his trench coat, letting it slide to present him in a well-fitted black suit with a black tie. A white rosal was in the buttonhole, stark against the dark backdrop.
Tagging @laplumedemaureen, @chauceryfairytales, and @clairelsonao3 if you'd like to do it, with an open tag for anyone else who wants to join in.
The words to search your WIP for are road, saunter, and arise.

word: make
wip: grey's au
When Alex comes back downstairs, Henry is gone. Good. The last thing he needed today was a one night stand that wouldn’t go away. He checks the time 7:30. Shit, he’s running late. He needed to leave 15 minutes ago if he was going to make it on time. He rushes out the door.
in my www(wips with words) I only have make, so far.

Word Find Tag
I was tagged many many days ago by @i-can-even-burn-salad who you should definitely check out if you aren't already following!
My words were: beginning, end, hope, despair. I did have to cheat a little for "despair"; turns out I have somehow never used it??? So I went with a variation. Everything comes from my WIP Sin of Purity, Purity of Sin.
I am gently tagging @clairelsonao3 and @starlit-hopes-and-dreams. Anyone else who wants to jump in, please do!
Your words are: run, crawl, fight, freeze.
beginning
Breathe--she just needed to breathe. It still hadn't been so very terrible, she told herself. But the pain did not subside and, gods, this was only the beginning.
end
He held out his hand, and to Anden's horror an attendant handed him a small branding iron, its end glowing a bright orange. He breathed in sharply, his injured ribs sending a shooting pain through his right side that he hardly noted. It was nothing compared to what he was about to suffer.
hope
He always felt more alone whenever she withdrew into herself like this; no matter how many times she'd come back to him, he was terrified that one day she might not. But right now, feeling the weight of the knife he held, he could only hope that at least some part of her would be protected from all the hurt he was about to inflict.
despair
There beside him was Kiri, and in an instant he forgot about everything but her. He cupped her face in his hands, his eyes desperately searching hers. "Are you okay?"

Find The Word Tag Game
Tumblr media
If you enjoy this, then please reblog to support me as an artist!
Gently tagging (no pressure!) @frostedlemonwriter @quinnharperwrites @digital-chance @sithbelle @jacquesfindswritingandadvice; your words are defense, grin, distraught, rain
Side
"I haven't seen you in a week, buddy! I miss you a lot, you know that?", says Lavertus as he pats my head. I shrug my elbows and sigh, "I do too… but you also said the same thing last time." He jumps backwards in surprise, with his muzzle open, and arms sticking down stiffly– somehow, me noticing his frequent absence is startling enough. I didn't mean to hurt him, but alas… he's now tapping his toes and whipping his tail sideways. "So… you see", he stutters, "I'm quite the busy lion, and working as a commander is very time consuming, ya know?"
Heart
"You know, man, this canine craze is wild. Like, they went bonkers out of nowhere!", says Leonidas, mumblings on his words with an earth shattering snarl. On the other side, the brunet lion leans on the doorframe, and sighs, as he pushes down his beanbrows– one scarred from top to cheekbone. While he crosses his arms and hides the huge claw tear on his bare chest, he groans, "I know, sweetheart.", Longtooth opens up his damaged eyelid, "Don't worry about it. We'll sort it out– together."
Sound
Meanwhile, the light dims from inside the forest, followed by rattling fronds. They diffuse penumbras all over the tall grass, even beyond our view, before its colors fade away in the distance. A mysterious sound howls out of the faraway depths– it grows louder as the moon emerges from the sky, cornering our eardrums in a sound barrier. Noises like these aren't uncommon, but what's happening right now feels off.
Utter
"What are you doing here..? Shouldn't you be elsewhere, Crominus?", Lavertus snarls. Crominus doesn't reply, doesn't even utter a single word, neither does he twitch a muscle. Instead, he seems too immersed in his mind, as if this situation didn't concern him much. Finally, he lowers his head, "Yes, I suppose…", he sighs, "Please excuse me. I shall now take my leave."

Word find tag (intense, swallow, run, inspire)
@frostedlemonwriter tagged me to search my WIP for intense, swallow, run, and inspire. Thank you!
These are from Spin Cylinder...
Tumblr media
INTENSE (Brett's POV)
You glance at me quickly and I’m no longer the only one playing the game. Then you turn your attention, intense and charismatic, back to Sam. “Where are you from?”
SWALLOW (Brett's POV)
Last night’s storm has swallowed itself whole and now watery sunlight filters through clouds that look like a painting on a cathedral ceiling.
RUN (Brett's POV)
Running’s a whole different vibe with caffeine as well as alcohol swimming through my veins. Cold salt air blasts the residual weed out of my brain and the ache in my lungs flows deep and transcendent.
INSPIRE PROVOKE (Noah's POV)
I meet your silence with a question, not to provoke you, but because I know what effect talking about this will have on you. “Have you been thinking about it?” You undo another button. “Have you?”
Tumblr media
Tagging @gaslightwestern, @i-can-even-burn-salad, @indecentpause and @isherwoodj if you'd like to do it, with an open tag for anyone else who wants to join in.
The words to search your WIP for are bright, shine, glow, and light 💙

Thank you @kaylinalexanderbooks and @sleepywriter00 for the tags! Posts here.
My words: habit, presence, hate, owe | conceptual, burning, tease, dread
Your words: whisper, leave, felt, bridge
I'm going to leave this an open tag today. ✨
From The Prince of Thieves:
Habit
An old habit of hers remains—she pulls with a gentle, light-as-air touch at one of my curls, stretching it and watching it spring back with vigour.
Presence
She is heedless of my presence in her slumber, yet she twitches as if the thud of every metallic footfall reaches her in her dreams.
Hate
I nod, afraid to say a word and ruin this moment, this moment from a nightmare that is sweetened only by the fact that after everything, he has decided not to hate me after all.
Owe
“Just remember this, Miss Cooper: I owe you nothing.”
Burning
“I saw you burning that little note the other night, you know.”
Tease
“Ooh. It can be taught,” Jamie teased, and Will glared at him, pulling off one of his noxious socks and lobbing it across the room.

Find The Word Tag
Thank you for the tag, @toribookworm22.
My words to find were quiet, dare, & token.
Passing the tag to @andromedaexists, @blind-the-winds, @oh-no-another-idea, and the usual open tag to anyone else who wants it.
You words to find shall be jolt, remote, & toy.
Now, time for Lacuna mixing trans angst with mad science!
Quiet: Empty Names - 21 - Changeling Child
“I don’t want her to worry about me,” she mumbles.  “Same for Road.”
“You mean to say that becoming stuck as a faceless imitation of a human being all night is not cause for concern?”
“It’s fine!” Lacuna snaps defensively and then shrinks back from her own raised voice.  “It’s fine,” she says more quietly.  “I’m fine.  I’m fine.  It’s a problem I’ve been working for a while now and that’s not even the worst thing that’s happened to me so far.  And the enchantment had a safety timer built in, so I would have been fine.” She raises her head, looking through Ashan rather than at him.  “Compared to some of the other mishaps, this one actually felt… nice?  It was quiet.  Like all the thoughts going in my head all the time finally shut up for once and let me just be.  Awareness without a sense of self to be aware of and in a room with no external stimulus.”  She slaps a hand to her forehead and laughs.  “Okay, wow, that does sound bad when I say it aloud, but I promise I’m fine.  It was actually about as restful as sleeping, I’m just a bit frazzled right now from the sudden jolt back into things.  And probably dehydration.  And maybe low blood sugar.  But I’m good now.  Mostly”
Dare: Empty Names - 10 - Cleanup
She suspects those two hadn’t really needed saving themselves, but Glassheart had definitely made it easier for them to get those last two passengers out unharmed.  And he’d looked amazing doing it, no matter which point of view she watched the feed from.  The fluttering dress, the flowing wand motions, and that conjuration at the end.  Goddess, now that was the sort of working that she’d only ever heard about.  Having gotten to see it, even remotely, is almost enough to take the sting out of wishing that could have been her out there doing that, being even half that useful.  Half that brave.  Half that - dare she even think it? - that beautiful.
She indulges a self-deprecating chuckle.  All this, all her… well her everything and now she finds herself wishing she could be like a guy.  Well, to be fair, it’s one specific guy whom she would still be mistaking for a girl if someone hadn’t said something.  Yeah, no one ever needs to know about that mixup.  Seriously, of all people, she should know better by now than to assume.  At least she’d realized her mistake before she actually said anything.  That would have been mortifying.
Token: Empty Name - 17 - Embedded Media
She takes off her gloves, reaches into a cargo pocket on her pants, and fishes out a thin metal sheet, slightly longer and wider than her open hand with the fingers pressed together.  A spiraling, branching mess of mutilated glyphs cover both sides, one for the incantation recording and one for the desired end effect.
Small, simple changes compounded over time.  That’s the way to do it.  Just alter one body part at a time, and control the speed of the ritual to keep the change gradual, only pushing further when it feels right.
She’d tried almost this exact same experiment a week back, and the change had lasted a solid twenty minutes after the ritual ended.  Far longer than the seventeen seconds she got out of the full body attempt, but still shorter than what someone with proper training and experience could pull off and nowhere near permanent.  Shortly after she started visiting Crossherd regularly she’d found an alchemist’s shop selling potions that claimed to do the same thing for a full day.  Sure they’d only ever lasted about an hour for her, and that was before she built up a tolerance from drinking one every night for a month straight, but at least they never left her chest itching all the next day like her last experiment had.  The effect on her psyche of seeing and feeling them wear off earlier and earlier until they barely did anything at all had probably been fuel for her current autogenesis issues though.  But that’s what she’s fixing now.  Hopefully.
The idea of tying the transmutive effect to an object was one she had been toying with even before the last mission, but seeing all those natural-born shapeshifters with their abilities tied to a token of some sort made her all that more confident that there was something to it.  And if she has to carry around a veritable deck of enchanted metal cards everywhere she goes to keep a body that feels right, then that’s a small price to pay.
Having learned from past mistakes regarding sudden shifts in center of mass, Lacuna takes a cross-legged seat on the floor, clasps the metal card to her chest, activates the stored incantation, and focuses on the new reality she wants for her body.

Word Find Tag
I was tagged by @winterandwords <3
my words are: light, bright, right, and sight
I am gonna tag: @witchy-shortcake @kaylinalexanderbooks and an open tag.
your words, if you want to, are: bring, cling, sing, and ring
Tumblr media
I'm so happy I actually found those words in my current WIP 😂😅
Light
On his way to the front door, the hallways of the guild were abandoned. Only the receptionist was still there, a blue-haired night owl Laurent had never seen in the light of day. They were balancing their chair on its hind legs, holding a book in one hand and onto the desk with the other.
Bright
“I figured I’ll take some of those cherry ones, and some of the ones with butter. And, perhaps,” he added with his brightest smile, “whatever you’d find most fitting for cheering someone up, taste aside. I think you’ve figured out by now that mine can’t be trusted.”
Right
“Where do you want them?” Aurelia raised her head. “Huh?” “The garlands. That I am holding. In my hands. Because I took them off.” “Right.” Heat rose to her cheeks as she lifted her hands. “Give them to me.”
Sight
Aurelia took a thin wooden frame and placed it over a blank sheet over paper, carefully aligning the edges. Along horizontal guides made from thick thread, she wrote her reply; her handwriting was mere muscle memory at this point, acquired at a time many years ago before her sight had completely deteriorated.

Thanks for the tag @talesofsorrowandofruin and @nopoodles
I took some words from each of you: depth, dark, dance, leaf, leap, and smile
depth
Surrounded everywhere I turn by bark and shadow Looming trunks and grasping branches block my searching And depths of night reveal no sight no sign for hoping You are here
dark
She recognized the voice even before she turned around to see her attacker from the night before. Though his dark clothes appeared to be fresh, his jacket remained coated in dust and herbs, traces of their scent filling the air and making her nausea return. His black hair hung over his forehead, adding menacing shadows to his glare. The scratches on his cheek and the bruise forming under one eye might have been gratifying under different circumstances. At the moment it was all she could do to keep herself from trembling.
dance
Every slow step felt heavier than the last. Spots danced in his eyes, but at last, his bike came into view. Kaori was nowhere in sight. He pulled himself onto the seat and draped his arms over the handlebars, closing his eyes in relief. He opened them again with effort and gripped the handlebars weakly. Now he just had to stay conscious long enough to make it back to base.
leaf/leaves
Thea heard the sound of a low whistle, followed by Gram’s voice. She turned as he and Kai entered the courtyard. The leaves she’d been leading in a delicate dance blew away in the slight breeze.
leap
She heard Kai cry out as she stopped to lower herself to a crouch before springing to the rooftop above. She heard the crackle of another stun bullet being fired and leaped across to the opposite roof.
smile
“Sorry,” she said, leaning back with a half smile on her lips. “The look on your face, it’s like you’d rather be stabbed again.” He let out an annoyed snort and closed his eyes with a small smile of his own.
