What does your name mean? According to Wikipedia, it’s Hebrew for favour, grace and beautiful

What’s your favourite number? I don’t have one. When I was in the primary school it was 10 cause it was my number in the class register Your favourite activity when you’re with friends? It depends. Sometimes we’re in the mood for partying and we go out together, with some of them I go to the cinema but mostly we just meet at some sort of cafe or restaurant and talk ^^ Something that always caught your interest but never had the chance to try out? Martial arts and horse riding. I always wanted to try them out. Your favourite band (or one of them)? I don’t have a favourite but I really enjoy Mumford & Sons, The Lumineers, The Beatles and The Platters Android, iPhone or Windows? lmao I’m too basic, but iPhone

What do you always have to have with you when you go out (besides mobile phone)? I usually take my wallet, keys and earphones as well. Nothing creative, I know :/ What was the first concert you’ve been to (if you have visited one)? It was Tom Odell’s concert last year. He used to be a HUUGE crush of mine so I was really emotional What kind of trips do you like (city, beach etc.)? I think traveling to new cities is what I like best ^^ Do you keep any plants in your room? Currently nothing but one bamboo. I want to buy some succulents though c: Do you have a travel diary? Not exactly. I keep a diary and I write in it almost everyday but whenever I travel I add some postcards, tickets etc. and make a separate section for the trip in the notebook

How can you confidently read/ write Mandarin? I feel like if I ever actually tried learning, I just wouldn't be able to do it. What if I run into a character I haven't learnt yet? I can't really rely as much on context clues as I can with other languages...

Hey, y’all! I got tagged by @the-polyglot-wannabe, so here are some (slightly belated thanks to NaNo and midterms) questions and my answers!

Rules: answer the questions, come up with 11 more, and tag 11 people

1. What made you want to study your current target language(s)?

I started studying Mandarin in high school because I wanted to take something different from Latin, and I had had a prior interest in Asian cultures (plus, I love the traditional characters). I started learning German because my mom taught me some of the basics at a young age (she studied abroad there), and I wanted to improve upon what I knew. And I learned a tiiiiiiny bit of Norwegian because my roommate started watching this Norwegian TV show called Skam!

2. Last book you read?

I read Firestarter, my first Stephen King book.

3. What’s your dream job?

I have things I want to do (use my language skills, help people communicate better by mentoring them in writing and sharing other perspectives with them, travel and learn about new languages and cultures, hopefully use my writing experience), but I don’t really have a single “dream job.” No matter what I’m doing, I’m going to be writing fiction alongside my main job, and much later down the line I’d love to become a professor so I can share all that experience with my students!

4. Any hobbies/passions besides languages?

Writing, drawing, research, reading, traveling, learning... so many things!

5. What’s the best thing that happened to you today (or yesterday, depending on what time you’re answering this)?

Spending the whole day with my friend studying Mandarin, writing, and talking about what we want to research in the future!

6. Can you play any instruments?

I tried playing a bit in middle school, but I don’t play anything now.

7. Favorite & least favorite school subjects? (Currently and/or in the past)

In elementary school, I loved English, art, and Latin. I liked PE the least because I wanted to be learning all the time (didn’t realize the importance of physical health to mental health then, oops)

8. Do you know/would you like to learn any sign language(s)? If so, which ones(s)?

I know a tiny bit of American Sign Language and Taiwanese Sign Language, but I’d like to learn much more!

9. If you could have any one superpower, which would you choose?

THIS IS SUCH A HARD QUESTION. Hmmm... Feeling well rested and motivated all the time would be amazing so I could better avoid distractions and spend every moment doing something worthwhile.

10. What’s one skill/talent you wish you had?

Singing/songwriting would be nice; that’s one artistic area that I haven’t really explored seems like it could interact well with my other interests (and I love listening to music).

11. Do you prefer music in your native language or your target language(s)?

Ooooh. Both? I’ve been listening to much more Chinese and Taiwanese music lately, but I have different artists that I like to listen to for different moods. There isn’t really a Daughter, Halsey, or Hayley Kiyoko of Chinese music (that I’ve found, anyway), and then there isn’t a Hebe Tien or G.E.M. of English music, either; every artist has a different feel to their music, and I like listening to them all at different times.
