The most recent session of Secret Life is so fascinating to me, because there's so much emphasis on this idea of heroes and villains in a series that's so full of murder. Like, everyone's doing it! What makes one person a villain for doing it and another a hero? Is it the cycle of violence, that the person in the wrong is whoever committed the crime first? Is murder excused when it's done for the sake of a task? Or for the sake of an ally rather than for yourself?

Scar: "So I'm just the villain of the red lives, the people who can kill me, the people who I was trying to kiss up to with the creeper farm. This is... secret keepers, why do you have it out for me?"

Gem: "All right, wow! I thought I'd have a lot more enemies, but actually I seem to be a bit of a hero on the server! Everyone likes me! Everyone has good things to say!"

Bdubs: "Want me to kill Scar? Okay, great, wonderful, that's going to be my mission for today! I'm going to be the hero of the server today!"

Gem and Scar both had tasks that involved hurting others on the server. So what's the difference? Everyone excuses Gem because it was just her task, but Scar's villainy was a task too. Do the others know that? Do they care? If Bdubs killed Scar, the narrative goes that he would be the hero of the server defeating the great evil villain. Task successful, I suppose.

#i'm watching his among us in mc video and the bdubs records prank earlier and hype over decked out 2... there is nothing this man cannot do #his passion for creating fun environments for his friends. makes my heart ache #(i Also have felt that kind of passion so seeing just how far he has taken it- and it him- resonates)#tango deep down is the kid who invents games for the neighborhood group to play. makes up funny names he'd call himself if he were a wizard #that sort of deal.

I'M SO. ILL. LIFE SERIES ETHOSLAB RANT TIME.

When Etho cares for an ally, he'll sacrfice something of his own to save them, and it often means losing things that betters his chance at survival. Survival is very important to him.

Like, he doesn't consider himself a protector, but DAMMIT man he's always protecting. He's said himself, "I'm not a protector, Cleo. I'm a runner." But when Scar threatens to forcibly take back the life he gave Bdubs, he rushes to sign that weird contract the wizard guy offered because he doesn't want Bdubs to lose his life again. When Cleo is being chased by practically everyone on the server, he refuses to disclouse her location, even when everyone threatens to kill him because he chooses instead to be loyal to her.

It's ETHO who parades around the server to try and save Bdubs at the expense of losing time to do a boogey kill. THAT will get him killed, and he doesn't even need to get a life for Bdubs, but he does. He knows he can't win a fight against someone like Gem, but he protects Cleo and Grian anyways.

He protected them with what he could do. What he does best is lie and deceive and manuver his way through life. He's a sneaky guy, not a strong one. He's a clever person, not a powerful fighter.

I wouldn't say Etho is particularly loyal, but I think that much is clear. Often he will prioritize his life first, even if it means that an ally of his gets hurt. He never outright betrays them, but as much as he cares for his allies, Etho still tends to be all about self-preservation. That being said, Etho still definitely cares about his allies, a lot. Hell, I didn't mention it up there, but he's also covered for and protected Tango from the hunt back in Limited Life. Man is more of a protector than he thinks he is.

Also uh...mind shattering thing my mind thought of while watching this week's session.

"I'd fail for you, yes."

"That's nice."

"Say you'd fail for me--"

"I don't know if I would go that far, Bdubs."

...

"Etho's just a survivor, Bdubs. He has no loyalty to you."

"Yeah, he's just a survivor man. That's all he does."

"...He loves me. He cares...he does!"

grian: bard, college of lore definitely a talker, will create lore in any case.

mumbo: artificer subclass artillerist bc redstoner and building machinery, first to build a tnt cannon

tango: artificer bc redstoner ofc

etho: alsl redstoner, but washed up… but i guess still artillerist artificer

cleo: barbarian subclass berserker or ancestral guardian. i feel like they are a grudge holder of past life series' aka their "ancestors"

jimmy: cleric, grave domain "serve the idea of life and death, the balance must be maintained" well in my eyes, the balance is his curse of always first out lmao also, useless in non-magical combat.

pearl: barbarian subclass berserker (anger fueled) or totem warrior (wolves as "animal spirits" joining her) shes definitely the axe swinger kinda person. i mean double life pearl??? need i say more?

martyn: rogue subclass: inquisitive (literally like a detective) always listens in on conversations, spying on ppl even tho its useless mostly

skizz: bard but college of therapy (self explainatory) always gives free therapy and a pep talk

bdubs: ranger subclass beastmaster (has a horse) i see him with a bow or crossbow while walking thru da woods. also has limited magic

Joel: the real rogue. subclass assassin sneaky and chaotic and not afraid to cause damage. actually happy to do so. always quick to red life (evil) will use every opportunity to shoot an arrow at u when ur close to an edge

lizzie: sorcerer she's a magic user for sure. but like natural magic in her bones, in her blood.

bigb: rn hes a warlock, patron: the hole lmao definitely signed his soul away to the hole man

scott: paladin, oath of devotion NEVER betrays his allies. always sees his friendships through to the end. somehlw a tank? rarely takes huge chunks of dmg, even when ppl aim for a crit. shield guy.

impulse: wizard i feel like he'd be a magic user but not naturally, instead someone who studies it by the book (nerd)

gem: druid gives animal lover vibe combined with being a force of nature (pvp goddess)

scar: bard college of eloquence THE talker. not very good at fighting but hes using magic and words to screw u into a useless deal

idk if you’ve ever thought about this but in my head there’s a difference between the redstoners that are wizards and the redstoners that are artificers. like mumbo is an artificer to me but tango is a wizard… i think it comes down to how theyve used redstone in the past (decked out feels like something a powerful wizard would conjure up for his own amusement while mumbo likes making robots and silly little machines) but maybe it’s just that i’m very partial to fire genasi wizard tango. as for other non-redstoners… i love swashbuckler gem but i also love druid gem… circle of stars… and druid bdubs!! with his little mossy cloak :)

i have thought about it and i'm actually not entirely sure gkfjkdgjf i gotta say though that i assigned mumbo and tango the complete opposite way BUT YOU'RE RIGHT,,, DECKED OUT IS TOTALLY A WIZARD CASTLE GJFDKGJ i just thought. tango. little mini game man. he tinkers. he must tinker. and mumbo... mumbo's just the type of guy to live in a wizard tower to me. he goes "it's simple really" then knocks over all of his potions and explodes his house. in my eyes he's a transmutation wizard and also grian's connection for obtaining explosives :D your thoughts are so big brain but i cannot get this out of my head kgjfkdgjkf
