Hear me out. - Clint either 1) is living in the vents of Avengers Tower, hidden from the other avengers, or 2) has nests in the vents and spends most of his non-social time there instead of in his room. (because when you're a kid and your adults are not trustworthy your bed is not the safe place it should be while small cramped spaces could be instead, and old habits die hard even when you're grown-up and the tallest baseline human you know). - He is not quite up-to-date on everything the other avengers are doing because either 1) he's not actually supposed to be there and sometimes you have to choose between more information and staying undetected, or 2) he was undercover /hurt /on a SHIELD mission /on holidays with his family /blowing shit up with Kate and maybe he hasn't told people he's back yet. - Bucky was only just brought back by Steve, and emphatically does not know Clint is there. Maybe he knows of him, maybe he does not, but he sure doesn't know he's lurking in the vents. - So they're both very surprised when they're all "intruder!" and they encounter each other.

Don’t Go Searching For What Goes Bump In The Dark

Chapter 1/?: Paradise Farms

They had worked for this peaceful life, after a lifetime of turmoil and pain. They deserved this peace that they’d carved out for themselves. Peace can only last for so long, as life liked to remind Clint that it surely was a bitch. His peaceful life with his mate, with the love of his life, his soulmate is crumbled into ruins when Bucky disappears one morning. Clint would do anything to get his mate back, even if that meant walking into the slimy tentacles of Hydra itself.

Clint knew something was off when he woke up to an empty bed, the bed was cold, the sheets undone indicating that his mate had never come to bed last night like he promised. While that wasn't unusual in itself, something about the cold bed and the colder home made a dark pit open up in his stomach.

He didn't like the sensation, he didn't like the hair on the back of his neck standing on end, his senses telling him that something was very, very wrong.

Maybe it was just their lack of sleep.

It took all his willpower to force himself off of the bed, muttering under his breath that he was being ridiculous. Bucky most likely fell asleep in front of the couch again, watching that boring documentary on mushrooms. If that was true, he was going to make Bucky fetch the eggs from their nest of chickens for a week to make this up to him.

And he'd bribe Pricillia to peck him an extra few times just to make him feel better.

Nothing could be wrong, nothing should be wrong. This was their life, they'd built a life together out in the middle of nowhere. A rundown farm that always seemed to have something wrong with it, needing one project or another to fix it up, a few handfuls of animals and a garden with enough fruit and veggies to sustain them, and the growing cans in their basement.

It wasn't a perfect life, but it was their life. A life Bucky had looked forward to, had asked them to share together.

There was nothing wrong because Bucky...Bucky just couldn't abandon his mate, not after making all those sweet, sweet promises of life experiences together, not after spending many hours nursing his knot. Bucky just wouldn't give it all up.

I may do a better one of this, or may not. idk. :) I wanted to get something out before the end of the year so this is it. It is still 8:53 pm in PST :) it's not my best work but hey it was done really fast and i have no idea how to draw nerf weapons.
