I think my favorite thing about Fionna and Cake has to be how unapologetically queer it is. In every corner, whether it be a cameo appearance from the gay couple,
a quick visual cue/reference to the pilot,
a questionable line from Brian David Gilbert of all people,
[img: Winter King (on the right) saying "Don't think it hasn't occurred to me!" This is in response to Cake suggesting he kiss Simon (left)]
or actually being integral to the primary or secondary plot.
Seeing such a casual yet important and beautiful inclusion of queerness in this show fills me with such indescribable joy. Without even trying, without even stepping away from it's own story, it's making a statement.
Without going out of its way, it's teaching genuine stories while saying "We are here, we have a place, we have a history, and we're here to stay."
Stop, I will take control
Bend the metal into shapes that I know, ooh-ooh
And I run, I run, I run, further than before
I shake away the skin to saturate my soul
Happy Winter Solstice to all those who mark the occasion. As much as I love the quiet and peace of long, dark nights, I’m ready to welcome back the light.
There’s only so much darkness a soul can take before it craves the dawn.
“Hey, they still call you The Kid? Aren’t you old for that?”
“Anyone ever tell you to respect your elders?”
“Not bad. How about we take it outside though?”
“Oh yeah, just tell me when and where.”
Okay but like the whole blending herself together with the Winter King just makes so much sense, she's only the madness of the crown.
She doesn't feel whole because it's only madness without its maker. The only thing she is missing is the wearer, the supposed to be bearer of the curse.
Like if I were the madness that laid within the crown I would also go to any measure to be reunited with my wearer. If dating and marriage is refused I too would just decide to blend myself with my user. I wouldn't be whole, I'm just the curse without the body I'm meant to be in. Blended we are right, apart we are just wrong.
