Winter Rewatches Nancy Drew
Welcome to my first rewatch of my current favorite comfort show ❤️ Under the cut are my thoughts and a few insights I hope you enjoy - I’ll be going through each episode and posting these periodically with the tag winter rewatched Nancy Drew.
3x05- The Vision of the Birchwood Prisoner
I know it’s been a long while but I got inspired to do one of these today and well, I hope you enjoy the return of this series!
Overall MVP
This episode was interesting to rewatch because all the characters were in some sort of conflict relationship vignette. And they all didn’t necessarily resolve their conflicts, but just sort of settled in the end and returned together despite the non-resolution. So it’s hard to pick an MVP – but maybe – I’ll pick the connections between the group – and how even though they went through their respective struggles, because of those connections, they returned to each other in the end – and not necessarily in a joyous triumphant way because again, no one won their respective turmoil, but returning to each other almost in a reluctant, “well, this is better than where I was” kind of way. And I like that notion of having a safe place to land. I like that idea of home.
Most Heartfelt Moment
“I wish you would have trusted me with that beforehand.”
I should change this category to heartbreaking in this instance. It’s so heartbreaking to see the struggles that Fanson endure this episode, the rust that eventually erodes what was such a great, supportive relationship. The fast track of wanting to live life to its fullest, to resolve past issues for a sense of peace and serenity in order to move forward, to carry forward, within the confined timeline George is now sentenced with, puts an unbearable strain on their dynamic.
Both George and Nick like to have time, space to think and talk through the important topics, and with that taken away, they feel pressure to deal with problems as quickly and efficiently as possible – and that sometimes means alone, that sometimes means without disclosing it to the other.
And thus, the falling apart, thus the eroding.
Best Overall Line
“I think you’re disappointing.”
Leah does a fantastic job delivering such a great performance this episode – but this line, this particular delivery, is heart-wrenching. So much so I give it best overall line.
Best Comedic Moment
This episode sprinkles in a lot of humor to lift the severity of all the characters “conflict vignettes” as I’m referring to them. But these are my top three:
“But you know good news…very few customers.”
Nick commenting to an empty dining room on what the audience finds amusing already – how The Claw even stays in operation with the limited customer base?
“You think Ryan is outsourcing his duties on the chore wheel?”
Probably one of the most iconic lines of the season - the utter distain and disbelief that is in Carson’s tone when he asks it is priceless.
“Just got to uh…recycling.”
If there’s anything Ace hates, it’s being on the border of an awkward conflict situation. And so, the moment he finds an escape route with Bess opening the door, he takes it. Him fumbling out the door with this excuse is so endearing.
Scare Rating
That scene with Nancy, Temperance, and Trott is so disturbing. 8.
Nace Slow Burn
What I love about Nace this episode is that illustration of gravity that myself, and other fans, have loved about their dynamic. How they drift away and then toward each other in a beautiful dance, moving apart, but not for too long, before flitting back to their center, to their safe place to land.
To home.
“Be careful around your mystical relatives.”
Spoken in their first scene together, feeling that gravity of wanting to stay connected as Nancy works through the case, and Ace with his, both of them needing (wanting) the other’s help but alas, their own respective conflicts, alas, their first step before they drift apart…
And then when they do come back together, it’s steps of affirmation from Ace that bring him closer to her…as if he’s trying to say sorry for not being there today…as if sorry wasn’t enough and he had to use as many words as he could.
“You had plenty to deal with already.”
“Nancy, I highly doubt that.”
“You were just doing what you thought was best.”
And then he embraces her, not fully, but with a gentle touch of his hand at her back and sweeps her in one final dance move across the hallway.
Landing in the center. Their safe place to land.
Home.
Favorite Fashion Moment
I’m giving the fashion nod to Ace and Nancy this episode. The blue and red complimenting colors – we love to see it.
Missing Moment
Special mention to this drabble I previously wrote about Ace dishwashing
But here’s a new one about Nancy leaving the loft for the night…
“I better get back home.” It was already late when she arrived at Nick’s loft and despite the adrenaline of the day propelling her forward in conversation with the group, her eyelids were now weighing her down.
(she was tired when she arrived and now she’s just exhausted)
“I’ll walk you out.”
Before she might have dismissed the offer, the idea of help. But today, she really missed it. His help.
(she really missed him)
The door clicks shut right as he’s offering up another testimonial, “don’t be so hard on yourself. You’ll figure things out…”
She really didn’t deserve all these affirmations. She hadn’t even asked about…
Turning around in her realization, she finds his eyes to safely get swept up in, “speaking of figuring things out, I’m sorry about your parents…”
He stays with her and nods, “thanks.”
She wished she had this today. This security. This feeling rising in her gut now that is calm and certain and…
Knows which direction to go.
Instead, she was unmoored today and made all the wrong turns.
A wrong way day for the books, she longs to rewrite it with him in it. He would have had clever lines to sprinkle in between her lamenting. He would have had astute observations and would have been willing to challenge her hypotheses without being condescending, but by being warm and supportive and…
He would have offered his smile and she would have appreciated the gesture as she mulled over his analysis.
She would have had her smile too.
It would have been a day for the books. But the good kind. The kind that included him.
(the best kind)
So she offers what she can at the end of the day, knowing it won’t fix things in the past, but at least she can try to fix the narrative of the now. “Let me know if you need anything…ok?”
“Nancy, you don’t…”
But she does - she need too - and interrupts, “let me know.”
He nods again before falling away from her.
“I will.”
She wished she had him today.
But this will have to do.
(it’s what gets her through)

i loved being tagged in tag games by @bethanyactually. it's like getting a good grade in long-term internet friendship. 💖
3 Ships: devi/ben from never have i ever (always), nancy/ace from cw's nancy drew (because of the Studies), and maeve/otis from sex education because i recently dipped my toe back into my feels for them, though i pulled back out before i got to season four because i had other self-imposed fandom rituals to uphold and then i visited bethany and kelsey (the Studies!!!!!).
First Ship Ever: probably lizzie/gordo from lizzie mcguire. it was back before i understood what shipping was, but oh, the effect gordo's pining had on me........
Last Song: roses by carly rae jepsen from emotion: side b (2016)!! been playing the ep on repeat all day.
funny how carly albums always sneak up on me. i'm never especially taken with them upon first listen, then approximately four to eight months after the fact, i'll listen again on a lark and it's all i can think about. except for dedicated side b (2020) which had my heart from the word go.
Last Movie: i watched no hard feelings (2023) over the weekend! i was inspired by @dollsome-does-tumblr's tags about it being an unexpected comfort movie, and yeah! outside of being an hour and a half buick ad, it's also a really sweet movie.
Currently Reading: in the mood for winter, i'm listening to let it snow by maureen johnson, john green, and lauren myracle. in terms of physical books, i'm in the middle of happy for you by claire stanford - which i think i will get a lot out of thematically, but the pacing is kind of dragging. so just last night i also started unrealistic expectations by andie j. christopher. i get so easily annoyed with romance novels, and i do have my nitpicks with this one, but the woman protagonist untangling complicated feelings about a 10+ year relationship coming to an end and never really having to be involved in the dating scene til it feels a bit late to be learning the social scripts is working for me.
Currently Watching: the latest buzz. for free on youtube! i rewatched jane mulcahy's degrassi video recently and to chase the nostalgia, i started rewatching the latest buzz instead of degrassi? i don't know. take up the twisty-turny logic with my neurotransmitters. i just work here.
Currently Consuming: water
Currently Craving: hibernation. barring that, a day-long nap.
i've already tagged miss dollsome. @daydreamingandprocrastination, @andrenson, and @brella you're also it!

April 2021 Picks
Tumblr media
And we’re back with the end to another month. April! Wow! Lots more great picks to talk about this time. Lots of new ones to the list too. So, let’s dive in!
Spoiler territory ahead!
Tumblr media
THE FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER
or should I say Captain America and the Winter Soldier
I just finished the finale last night, so it felt right to start off with The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. I really enjoyed it and I feel the episodes got stronger as the series went on. Each one felt like a mini-movie and I was upset it was over and had to wait another week for another one. I think the finale was my favorite. Especially the reveal of Sam as Captain America. I love his suit, his speech and the montage of everyone watching him. The last part of the episode was definitely my favorite and one I can watch on repeat. I loved seeing happy Bucky and him goofing off with the kids in Louisiana. He deserves so much happiness as he has now accepted he’s no longer who he once was. Bucky and Sam’s relationship is fantastic and I can’t wait to see it more. I know there’s a possibility of a second season and they have to be in a future MCU movie. Regarding the villain, I feel I was confused for most of the show as to what their objective was. I’m curious if this is because they had to reshoot parts during the pandemic. I also am mad with Sharon. Like what happened with her? She is definitely the true villain of the show. I also don’t love that we haven’t seen the end of Walker (but Wyatt Russell did a fantastic job). I also loved Torres and I hope he becomes the next Falcon. Definitely so different vibes from Wandavision, but just as good!
Tumblr media
THE IRREGULARS
This is a show that more people need to be talking about! It was SO GOOD! I feel like I heard some buzz about it when it first came out, but not much after. It follows the teens featured about who live on the streets during Victorian London. The leader of their group, Bea gets approached by Dr. John Watson (that’s right...as in Sherlock and Watson) to take on a case that has more supernatural qualities. The story takes off from there. I think the group dynamic was fantastic. There wasn’t a character I didn’t like and each one brought something else important to the group (which they even bring up towards the end of the show). [I’ve watched a few cast interviews since finishing the finale and they seem like they get along really well in real life too.] There is a kind of love triangle, but it didn’t bother me and was over fast. I did like both combinations though. Lots of twists and turns along the journey. I have no idea if there will be another season, but there should be. It didn’t end on a major cliffhanger, but definitely ended in a way where it could continue nicely. Come on Netflix.
Tumblr media
HBO’S THE NEVERS
From one show set in Victorian times to the next. The Nevers just premiered on HBO and HBO Max earlier this month. It follows an ensemble of characters, similar to other HBO shows, ranging from characters who are called “the touched” to men in government who are against them. Being “touched” means they have a special talent or power, which can range from healing to speaking other languages, being extremely tall, or being an expectational inventor (I seriously love Penance. I just don’t know how to explain her ability). Amalia True and Penance Adair are two of the main characters and they help bring in others who are touched to a remodeled orphanage that is a safe haven for people like them. Of course there are those who are against them existing. This seems to be at least two groups as someone is abducting and experimenting on some of the touched, but we don’t know who they are...yet. I love the fusion of a historical setting with a fantasy element. I am very excited to see where the show is headed. I also love seeing so many of my favorite British actors on the screen together.
Tumblr media
ONCE UPON A TIME IN WONDERLAND
Time for a throw back. Fans of ABC’s Once Upon a Time might remember the short lived spin off following Alice in Wonderland (and some of Aladdin). It only lasted for one season of 13 episodes, but I remember loving it and I am so happy I can rewatch it on Disney Plus. It reminds me of why I enjoyed OUAT so much and I think this show deserved another season or more crossover with the original show. (Luckily the Knave got that opportunity.) I think it should have aired as a summer show or when OUAT was on hiatus, this way more fans would have tuned in. It is something I’ll believe forever.
Anyway, I’ll stop ranting now... I love Alice. I think she’s a badass and a fierce warrior. If you follow some of my posts on my other blog, Lydia-yougowith-Stiles, you’ll know that I love a warrior romance and Cyrus and Alice fit that perfectly (even if they are apart for much of the series). I also love Alice’s hair and outfits. Everything about her is cool. Her relationship with the Knave is one of my favorite friendships ever. I think they balance each other out so well and how they spend most of the journey together. Back in the day, I totally shipped them, but now I definitely don’t. (Even though I don’t love Anastasia.) This is definitely worth the watch if you’ve ever heard of Once Upon a Time or not. There is very cheesy CGI especially for 2013, but once you get pass that you’ll love it.
Tumblr media
ZOEY’S EXTRAORDINARY PLAYLIST
It was on a longer break than I expected, and I didn’t miss it as much as I thought I would (which I know doesn’t sound good for a show), but I am still loving all the episodes this season. It feels like there are more musical numbers, which I love. Mandy Moore is killing it with the choreography. There are so many amazing moments. I also was a big fan of the newest glitch episode. Everyone is so talented and I also like that we’ve started to hear from more like Jenna and Tobin. Leif has become one of my favorites. I don’t love the new neighbor next door, but I think we’re done with his storyline. I’m not loving the Zoey love triangle, but I do like her with either Simon or Max. She seems really happy with Simon now. (FYI: I haven’t watched the most recent episode yet. The glitch one was my latest.) Can’t wait for more!
Tumblr media
KUNG FU
CW’s newest show this month was Kung Fu, which I just learned was a reboot. It follows Nicky who returns after 3 years to her home in San Francisco. Her family has mixed feelings as she has had no contact with them for the last 3 years. She is now a Kung Fu master and warrior, out to avenge her mentor’s death and stop a villain from acquiring mythical weapons. The show gives me Arrow vibes every time I watch it. It has similar flashbacks each episode to an earlier time in Nicky’s life. While Nicky’s mission is different, the style just gives me early seasons of Arrow vibes, which I am not complaining about. It stars Legacies’ Alyssa Chen, who I didn’t love on Legacies, but instantly fell in love with Nicky. I think she’s a bad ass character and love how she’s fighting for the underdogs on the streets of San Fran, while also taking down a bigger evil. The love triangle is heating up and I’m definitely team Henry (even though there’s some mystery there). I think he’s great and once again we have an awesome warrior romance. They balance each other so well and it’s only been like 3 episodes. Now they’ve also been sleuthing together and it’s just amazing.
Tumblr media
NANCY DREW
Are you sick of hearing me talk about CW’s Nancy Drew? I hope not because I’m going to fangirl again. I LOVE THIS SHOW SO MUCH! I can’t wait till Wednesday comes and I tune in a little after it starts, so then I can fast forward on my DVR. Then when the episode is over I basically start it all over again and watch select scenes that were awesome. (More specifically, they tend to be Nancy and Ace scenes because I love them and we’re entering so much angst I don’t know if my heart will be able to handle it!!!)
I’ll say it a thousand times: THIS CAST IS EVERYTHING! Their dynamic is amazing. You can have any match ups and it’ll be a great time. There is not one person I don’t like. I was so upset that there wasn’t a new episode last week (especially because it was my birthday). I loved the last one with the Hardy Boys and that Nace reveal! OMG! I’m so sad that Grant has left again because we barely had him, but I feel he’ll eventually come back. He has to. I loved the ending when he spoke to Thom by signing to him. (My heart!) I seriously can’t say enough great things about this show. It is not your typical CW show and deserves more love and views. So happy a third season has already been confirmed!!
LAST NOTES
Just started Shadow and Bone on Netflix and am loving it! I’m sure I’ll have an entire post dedicated to it when I’m done. (Currently going to start episode 6.) I have no background on the universe or the books (just what my sister is filling me in with as we watch). I definitely plan on reading Six of Crows after this!
Tumblr media
So what are you enjoying? Let me know. I’m always looking for more shows to add to the list! Can never have enough.

Farewell to Spooky Season, AHS Style: Lookbook no.12
Hi to anyone reading,
Tumblr media
Happy belated Halloween!
I capitalise it because if I'm gonna recognise any day as sacred, it’s the spookiest one of the year! Halloween 2020 obviously hasn’t been as exciting as usual, parties and club nights being banned has meant there’s been far less opportunities to dress up, but I still managed to get out for the night before they announced the upcoming second lockdown and do a couple of spooky movie nights (and carve a pumpkin!)!
I originally intended for this lookbook to be last minute halloween costume inspo but I was lazy and didn’t manage to get it out on time-a lot of these looks minus the makeup and maybe an accessory or two could work on any day or night out so I thought I’d go ahead and post it now anyway. Celebrating the fashion moments of American Horror Story is something I’ve wanted to do for a while; it’s probably not the first show you’d think of for sartorial inspiration but Mr. Ryan Murphy has fucking fantastic taste in stylists and the first five seasons of AHS in particular, which I’ll be focussing on in this post, have given us SO many amazing looks. The man may be guilty of many things-subjecting us to the character of Will Schuester, trying to turn Richard Ramirez into a thirst trap, embarrassing everyone who raved about how good Scream Queens was when he wrote season 2-but costume related laziness is not one of them. We see more consistency in a Ryan Murphy character’s wardrobe than we do in their story arcs and I respect that because honestly, as much as I love joining in when it comes to ripping into his ability to cohesively bring an AHS season to a close when it airs, I’d probably be the same; if you put Lady Gaga in front of me and told me to write her lines I’d probably end up getting overly invested in what her character was going to be wearing in the scene too.
So! Enough Ryan Murphy bashing from me! I’ll get on with it! Starting with 3 season 1 inspired looks:
Murder House: Elizabeth Short, Tate Langdon and Violet Harmon
Tumblr media
-striped jumper from caitlinlark on Depop, kick flare jeans from ellagray-
When it comes to reflecting on season 1 of American Horror Story, all I can say do is thank the internet overlords that Tumblr has moved on from the romanticising school shooters and wearing normal people scare me tops phase to instead collectively taking the piss out of the “GO AWAY, TATE!”, “YOU’RE ALL THAT I WANTTT! YOU’RE ALL THAT I HAVEEE!” exchange.
Tumblr media
In terms of fashion *moments*, whilst season 1 doesn’t stand out as much as the seasons that come after, Violet and Tate’s wardrobes did give birth to a bit of a 90s grunge renaissance with their oversized knits and faded jeans and layering of textures. It did also give us good costumes in the form of Alexandra Breckenridge’s Moira O’Hara and Mena Suvari’s portrayal of the Black Dahlia, Elizabeth Short; unfortunately, I didn’t have a slutty maid costume lying around so I did the best I could at giving the outfit Elizabeth wears when she makes that fateful visit to the Murder House a modern, more party appropriate update.
In terms of season rankings, Murder House isn’t my favourite. It starts off really great but lulls a bit towards the end and I could never get behind Violet and Tate as a couple because you know, one of them is a school shooter who sexually assaults the other’s mum, and that’s a hurdle that I think most couples might struggle to get over irl. That being said, it was the season that started it all and showcased some of the most innovative writing and directing on TV, and it opened up a spot for horror on primetime television which as far as I know was kind of unheard of before then. Back when I first watched it, I had no idea what to expect not only because I’d never seen horror in a serial format but also because it seemed to be able to get away with the kind of storylines you’d expect network executives to fire people over. It introduced us to Jessica Lange and Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters and Denis O’Hare who would go on to make the show what it is today and more importantly, through Jessica’s glorious portrayal of Constance Langdon, provide us with an endlessly versatile meme format for this trying time.
Tumblr media
Asylum: ‘60s Lana Winters, ‘70s Lana Winters, and Sister Mary Eunice McKee
Tumblr media
-afghan coat from louisemarcella on Depop, red AA skater dress from julietramage, pink gingham co-ord from zshamim-
I think we can all agree: Asylum would’ve been a perfect series of television if it wasn’t for the completely unnecessary alien storyline. Like, I get that they fit in with the whole good vs. evil theme as a kind of non-biblical alternative to the idea of a higher, all-powerful being but there was already so much going on that it just wasn’t needed. Aside from that, I think the general consensus amongst watchers of the show is that Asylum has the best writing of any season and I think I’d tend to agree. It’s not my favourite because it’s too depressing to rewatch but if we’re talking the first time round, this is the series that had me hooked. Lana Winters?
Tumblr media
Iconic.
Sister Mary Eunice? Iconic. The Name Game? Iconic. Remember when you couldn’t go a day on Facebook without seeing that one photo of Naomi Grossman as Pepper used as the go to “what I really look like” photo in one of those “expectation vs. reality” style posts on your newsfeed? Those were simpler times.
Because this season was mostly situated within the hospital, we didn’t get that many proper outfits but when we did, they were stunning; if I had to state my absolute favourite AHS character of the entire show I’d probably go with Lana Winters and the part her wardrobe played in her characterisation would 100% play a part in that. The late 60s/early 70s was such a wonderful period for fashion and through her character we get to see both of those explored a little. Of course there’s also *that* Sister Mary Eunice scene with the red slip dress and suspenders too which yes, could be a perfect halloween costume, but I also strongly believe should be a perfectly acceptable outfit for any day of the year.
Tumblr media
Coven: Misty Day, Madison Montgomery, and Zoe Benson
Tumblr media
-chiffon dress from rags_to_riches on Depop, pinstripe corset from hanpiercey, and tennis skirt from mollie_morton-
I hate to be a basic bitch but I have to say it: Coven is my favourite season of American Horror Story. Once you get over the complete waste of Evan Peters’ acting capabilities that resulted from the *choice* to have him play Kyle, the unnecessary rehash of the Evan/Taissa pairing from season 1 in what I can only assume was an attempt to capitalise on the popularity of the questionable Tate/Violet relationship, and the subsequent sacrifice of any interesting character arc we could’ve foreseen for Zoe Benson beyond her obsessing over a resurrected, non-verbal frat boy, it’s a perfect season. A supreme (heh) balance of horror, humour, and character drama, as well as the stunning aesthetics and forever quotable dialogue, make it my go-to season if I’m ever considering a rewatch. And if you disagree, let me jog your memory with the most mainstream (not to get all “normal people scare me” and suggest AHS is not a mainstream show, I literally just mean in the sense that even those who have never watched the show will have seen this)  reaction GIF set any FX show has even spawned:
Tumblr media
Buzzfeed employees had a field day, Emma Roberts enthusiasts (I mean me) finally saw her cemented as the pop culture icon Scream Queens has since showed us she deserves to be (because not enough people have seen Unfabulous, Nancy Drew or Scream 4) and the gays everywhere rejoiced at the year’s worth of meme fodder they’d been provided with. It was Madison Montgomery’s world and we were truly just living in it.
And the fashion! I mean, Stevie Nicks meets 21st century teenage witches! Come on!
Tumblr media
Freakshow: Dandy Mott, Maggie Esmerelda and Elsa Mars
Tumblr media
-olive green satin skirt from morganogle on Depop, headscarf from tonijordan, platform sandals from elliefewt, PVC skirt from bethpin_, corset top from sadieflinter, beret from house_of_erotique, flame detail platform boots from mad_rags_vintage-
When people talk about the declining quality of AHS, they usually point to Freakshow as the beginning of the end, but I have to completely disagree. I wasn’t a fan the first time round but on rewatch it’s probably the most emotional season of them all; no, there aren’t as many “horrifying” moments as in other seasons and Elsa is probably Jessica’s worst performance (which is still an incredible one by anybody else’s standards), however it makes up for it with the most sympathetic bunch of characters yet, and on the flip side, also one of the most amusingly depraved with Finn Wittrock’s Dandy Mott. Fans usually argue that the season went downhill once *SPOILER* Twisty the Clown was killed off but for me, he really primarily served as the catalyst for the far more interesting devolution of Dandy, who, imo, is the show’s strongest villain to date, rivalled only by Bloody Face. Then there was the episode Orphans too which made me cry buckets, the sole AHS episode to do so.
Tumblr media
We got a lot of great fashion content in this season too: the theatrical opulence of Elsa Mars’ wardrobe, “Maggie”’s nomadic fortune teller costumes, and all those twee suits we saw Finn Wittrock in. Highly underrated if you ask me. It seems an odd choice for me to use Elsa’s Dominatrix look as an inspiration for one of my looks here when we have that Life on Mars performance outfit and all the extravagant robes Jessica got to waltz around in for reference buuuut I didn’t really have anything to do the vibrancy of either of those justice so I went with the black leather option which is much more me. Am I saying I moonlight as a dominatrix? Maybe. Lol, no. I wish. It’s not for lack of trying. WHERE ARE ALL THE GENUINE TWITTER PAYPIGS AT!? Your girl wants to insult creepy men and get some new clothes out of it xoxo
Tumblr media
Hotel: Hypodermic Sally, Liz Taylor, and The Countess
Tumblr media
-silk white bralet from xlibby_maix on Depop-
Hotel is another season that I liked a lottttt more upon rewatch, once I knew I was okay to tune out the (completely predictable and utterly nonsensical) Ten Commandments Killer storyline that so much of the season initially seems to hinge on. I love Chloë Sevigny but the fact that her and Wes Bentley’s wooden John and Alex Lowe are positioned as the protagonists at the expense of the far more interesting Liz Taylor, James March and Hypodermic Sally really does a disservice to what is an otherwise great season upon initial viewing.
Tumblr media
The visuals this season are magnificent and I think if I had to pick one character’s wardrobe to steal from the entire cast of AHS characters, it would be The Countess (a toss up between her and Misty Day tbh, so I kinda just settle for low-key channelling both). No fucking idea where I'd wear any of her clothes to but I’d make it work. Liz Taylor and Hypodermic Sally have some amazing looks too-there’s just honestly so much to choose from; that being said, this post wouldn’t be complete without a specific ode to the vampire goddess Elizabeth Bathory, who is everything I want to be in life minus the murderous qualities:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Everything. EVER-Y-THING. LOOK AT HER!
Tumblr media
Lady Gaga is really a fucking goddess isn’t she. And people were claiming before they’d even seen it that she couldn’t act? A patriarchal society doesn’t like women that can do it all. Just saying.
Anyways!
That’s it for now! I hope you enjoyed the post if you did read til the end! Sorry I couldn’t get this out before Halloween, I was typing and Picmonkey-ing madly from 2 in the afternoon on the 31st but I taking fucking forever to get ready and had to abandon all hope of getting it out on the day by 4PM. I’ve got so much content planned and it sucks because a couple of them are lookbooks which now feel completely redundant given we’re heading into a second lockdown, but maybe I should just do it anyway? The grunge inspired moodboard I just did seemed to get a good reception too so I’ve got some more of them planned.
Tumblr media
As always, hope everyone is keeping well, and feel free to inbox me with any suggestions, queries or even just to say hi if you need someone to talk to! I check here quite a lot so I should see it. Lots of love to everyone in this time!

The I know you exchange in 2x09 is so profound. Ace’s is steeped in history, it’s grounded in a post surviving Aglaeca world , it’s post win and everyone being able to breathe, it’s realizing that this friendship he has with her, where’s he’s learned her quirks and her giveaways, the one where he can tell the difference between when she’s genuinely frustrated or just hasn’t eaten, the one that while it inherently has a push and pull rhythm to it, lately feels like it’s harder to pull her back sometimes when they debate about the road to follow in a case, that rhythm seems off - she seems off - and so he knows her - knows that she seems like she’s getting attached - he just worries - he just wants her to be ok - because they won, they are here, and yet, it feels like she isn’t - so he’s reminding her - reminding her of herself because he knows her - maybe better than anyone - maybe better than herself - and he misses her - he never knew how much until now but he needs her - I know you - come back to me - don’t slip away.
And then Nancy’s - Nancy’s I know you too - it’s steeped in history too, but it’s also her volley over the net - it’s her leaning into the habits they’ve cultivated in their friendship- the habits she finds are harder to fall back into lately - but for a second, it feels easy - and so she looks at him, tries to take in the full sight of him - because for a moment it’s easy - until he mentions someone else going out to take the order and she feels something scratch at her skin - but why - she always wanted to be by his side - that’s where she felt safe - but now - it feels like everything - maybe even herself - feels like it’s going adrift - and she needs an anchor - a place to rest - and truthfully he was already that for her - he was that for her - she wants him to be that for her still - but he’s wearing his lucky pullover and it’s not for her and he’s doing something nice, digging and researching - not for her - and so she leaves - to dampen the disappointment gnawing at her skin - to try and soothe the envy over someone else getting to call him an anchor.

Winter Rewatched Nancy Drew
Welcome to my first rewatch of my current favorite comfort show ❤️ Under the cut are my thoughts and a few insights I hope you enjoy - I’ll be going through each episode and posting these periodically with the tag winter rewatched Nancy Drew.
3x04 - The Demon of Piper Beach
I’m back! I put this series on pause for a bit, but now I’m back and ready to delve in. This is the part where I typically delve into the cleverness of the episode title and I could be overreaching with this one but I like that this episode calls back to the premiere episode of season three. Because this predicament that is explored is connecting to something not occurring and the consequences of that something not being explored...
Kinda like the season two finale when Nancy went to Ace’s house and he wasn’t there.
Kinda like when Nancy and Ace were on the docks or the staircase and Nancy just very softly revealed parts of herself that were bothering her, but not her whole self, not her whole heart.
Kind like when Nancy and Ace drove back from the detective convention and no one said a word the whole ride about feelings...
It’s almost like the demon on the beach is not only the actual entity within this episode, but what Nancy is continuing to struggle with four episodes in - her feelings for Ace and the struggle to keep them concealed.
Overall MVP
Ryan gets awarded MVP for this episode. Not only does he shine in caring for the kids at the youth center, but he helps save the day along with Bess in this episode’s predicament! It’s nice to see this version of Ryan. This version of him that is growing into someone with purpose outside of his family and with things that ultimately serve other people’s best interest - the kids, the crew...
Most Heartfelt Moment
This is a little tricky this episode so I’m going to say overall heartfelt moments are given to Carson/Ryan - just to see this episode highlight more of their dynamic of living in the same house now was such a treat, how Ryan and he play off each other, Carson trying to be the dad Ryan never had while Ryan teases Carson in the way a son would, all the while, realizing they are both friends.
Best Overall Line
“You people really have no imagination.”
Bess is truly an icon this episode and I almost made her MVP but then I just got caught up in the growth of Ryan and he won out. But I love my girl this episode and she definitely deserves her praise.
Best Comedic Moment
“Do not touch my wheel!”
GETS.ME.EVERY.TIME.
Again, Bess is an icon.
Scare Rating
This episode for being the nightmare episode, didn’t feel super scary so I’m giving it a 5 out of 10.
Nace Slow Burn Rating
I named this section of my analysis “slow burn” but let’s be honest - by season three it’s a hot flame. This episode literally catches fire with Nancy, and upon rewatch I was looking forward to reliving that pivotal moment when Ace comes in to save Nancy from her nightmare, rushing in and immediately blowing out the flame only to make sure that she’s ok...
But what I caught along the way, was when Ace gets saved by George, when his own life was in peril, while George pulls him out of the way of the van, who calls right way but NANCY!
Just a nice detail to find along the way in the rewatch, that while George was the person, Nancy was there in spirit in Ace’s “save” and I like that.
Also shout out to my favorite Nace scene this episode the “what was your dream about...”
I love the tension in that scene and how again, they both want to reveal things but are keeping them concealed. It’s almost at this point that there is more risk in not saying how they feel than telling each other their true emotions and you feel that in this scene.
Favorite Fashion Moment
Bess with that fan is pretty fabulous.
Missing Moment Drabble
So rather than add a missing moment drabble, I’m going to point to my 11000K manifesto regarding these nightmares that was strictly based on the season three trailer at the time but I feel like is still very appropriate to post along with this episode rewatch.

don't know how to admit that I'm broken (how can I be alright?)
Summary: Missing Moment drabble from 2x14 - Ace goes after Nancy at the party...Also inspired by a lyric prompt from I can't breathe by Bea Miller - title from the song as well.
-/-
They pull up to the curb around the same time, his eyes gravitating toward the rearview mirror as he places Florence in park and watches her slow and do the same behind him in her shade of blue. He wonders why she didn’t pull in the drive. Maybe she’s leaving after the party. Maybe she’s leaving to go be with him. His stomach, already in knots in anticipation of their meeting because well, last time hardly went well, constricts, making his thoughts worsen as envy sinks alongside longing into his gut.

3x02 - The Journey of the Dangerous Mind
So I’ve taken up this space to dig into any potential double meaning to the episode titles and to be honest, this one isn’t that creative...I mean I believe it’s in reference to all the characters at this point and their journey to solving this case they were involuntary assigned in the premiere, and with each pathway they are embarking on, it’s discovering insecurities and strengths within themselves as occurs with most cases on this show. There’s also the obvious memory trip that Temperance takes Nancy on, but you know, we aren’t here for the obvious.
Overall MVP
I feel like the Dads win the MVP. They really showed up for Nancy both in the supportive talks and the tough conversations - both of which she needed this episode. More team up of BOTH dads going into season four please - I think Nancy’s going to need both POV’s. Most Heartfelt Moment The ending dinner scene moment between Nick, George, and the sisters - it was nice to see that acceptance arc closed at the end of this episode instead of drug out further.
Also Nancy and her dads at the end - again - we love a team up and not to corner Nancy, but tell her that hey, we are on your side, and you need to include us in on the conversation/plan because we care about you - that whole “grow from where I’ve been planted” - yeah we are the forest surrounding your plant Nancy so be respective of us as well. Best Overall Line
And the next time you’re running into something dangerous, remember you’re not alone.
The whole exchange is great, but that line in particular is not only appropriate for Nancy and her character (needed for her character arc), but for the crew at large (even if they aren’t there to hear it) Best Comedic Moment Bagel doesn’t fall from the tree
Ryan is the unspoken hero of comedy on this show.  Does the community liaison not get a chair - it’s ok I’m gonna make one.
Nancy taking what’s given to her and saying I can fix this is so in character for her - let’s hope that changes next season and she leans on others to assist with the fixing... Scare Rating This episode was more cringy gruesome than scary wow that was frightening. So maybe 5? Nace Slow Burn Rating Some domestic moments like the peas but otherwise they were kept apart for that pesky plot device known as the love triangle - although in this instance it’s more like a flimsy craft project of a triangle - but that’s just my opinion.
I still think even with the little interaction, that pea moment says so much about their relationship now - it’s easy, casual, but with unspoken tenderness and care (that’s obviously blossomed to love at this point) and I just think it’s adorable of them.
I think it’s also a great foundational reminder for what occurs next episode... Favorite Fashion Moment
Nancy just looked great in this episode overall. Missing Moment Drabble
Posted here.
Also my old one I wrote here

hold on (feeling like I’m headed for a breakdown)
Summary: a 2x15 missing moment - Nancy and Ace cleaning those grease traps. Prompts include the lyrics to Unwell by Matchbox 20 - which is also where the title comes from - and also the prompt two characters staring at each other’s lips.
-/-
Bess went on inside and proceeded to begin organizing the dinnerware. She wasn’t about to be anywhere near a kitchen after what happened earlier that morning so none of them argued with her self-assigned duty. Nick and George drifted into the office to finish filing paperwork. Or so went the excuse they poorly constructed in their wake as they left hand in hand and closed the door behind them.
And so, it was just Ace and her, side by side, elbow deep in soap bubbles, scrubbing the scum out from the bottom of their designated tin pans.

3x03 - The Journey of the Dangerous Mind
So I’ve taken up this space to dig into any potential double meaning to the episode titles and this one is interesting because yes it’s about the larger mystery arc, and also about the mini mystery for this episode - but also I think in an episode specifically crafted for Nace!Pining - it also insinuates something alarming about what’s only been kept in the haven of each of their minds at this point - the idea that their feelings could lead to some sort of danger - although we don’t know what this at this point as a present audience member, but we do as a rewatcher...
Overall MVP
I choose Bess - because she ties together both sides of the storyline in this episode - she’s the one to bring the pieces together so to speak and I feel like she doesn’t get enough credit - as evident by her conversation with Ace that even though the topic isn’t about “I deserve praise” it’s sort of underlying in the talk they have. Bess really doesn’t get enough acknowledgment and I think she’s feeling that here - we see that later on in the season when she actually calls the crew out on it - but here in this episode is just the seedling of that feeling rising to the surface.
Most Heartfelt Moment
“I just didn’t want the box for a podcast. It was for her.”
Ok - the whole tie up of the mini storyline here at the end of the episode was so precious - and Laci finally revealing that she didn’t want the box for mystery solving purposes but for personal reasons was just *puddle of mush*
Best Overall Line
“Inside the nightmare factory? How come you never take a vote?”
Tagline alert! I love when lines appear in the episode that encapsulate the show and George seems to get alot of them it seems as I’m noticing in my rewatch.
“You can feel good.”
SUPPORTIVE ACE BE STILL MY HEART. And the proximity he has to Nancy in this episode and then for him to say this toward the episode in the final moments of the scene - I can’t...
Best Comedic Moment
No girl. I am the Fan.
George really slayed the comedy this episode - but not in the hilarious, knee slapping way - in the heartfelt, no apologies way we all love her for. Also putting her character in such a sincere situation as a con where people - fans - are gathered to celebrate a thing is comedy in itself - not that George isn’t sincere - she is the icon of honesty - its just a con is something so pure and George just is not the type to go “yes, I will go celebrate and gather with my peers over a shared love - I have better things to do, thank you very much.”
Scare Rating There’s definitely scarier episodes but this one was creepy - so maybe 6? Nace Slow Burn Rating
3x03. The episode perfectly crafted for Nace!Pining. An episode that basically was written to showcase and run home the idea these two are meant for each other, but also introduce if they are meant for each other, will they meet the fate of so many other love stories they’ve come across in their mystery solving “career.”
Or will they defeat the curse that’s piled up against them?
My favorite moment upon rewatch was this tiny moment after Ace pulls Nancy to safety - right after Nancy says “something about that reenactment didn’t make sense...” - the way Ace takes this singular moment for himself - even though they’ve been on the other side, they’ve been safe for several minutes now - this is the moment he’s confirming for himself she’s ok - and it’s everything to me.
The rating scale at this point I feel like is mute but 10/10.
Favorite Fashion Moment
Nancy just looked great in this episode overall. Also Ace in the purple shirt <3 Missing Moment Drabble
New drabble here - domestic Nace inspired by this episode...
Another missing moment here

Both our eyes locked to the tide (We went in circles somewhere else)
-/-
Summary: Based on an idea/prompt that @destielbaited put in the tags of this post - what if Ace put his arm around Nancy in 2x03.
Also inspired by a lyric prompt from Anchor by Novo Amor.
-/-
However, despite this feeling that things might not be all the way settled, despite thinking there might be a clue or a sign that she’s missed, that she just hadn’t had seen, hasn’t had the time to hear, to uncover because time was never on her side and it definitely wasn’t present or in her corner in this expanse of night, in the depth of navy speckled with light as a glimmer of hope, she doesn’t feel defeated.
She feels happy.

are you anywhere out there wondering what could be?
Summary: A drabble set through season two but up until 2x17. Based on the lyric prompt from Always Been You by The Sweeplings - also where the title comes from.
-/-
When he sensed her enter the locker room while he bandaged up a hook in the freezer, he heard her shallow nervous breath at his back, but she wasn’t there, not really, not the girl he knew, not the girl he had grown to call a friend, not the girl whose life was spinning out of control on the pavement, tires screeching in the aftermath of revelations, who at the time leaned on her friends, leaned on him, to steady the wheel.

3x01 - The Warning of the Frozen Heart
One of my favorite things about this rewatch has been digging into the symbolism behind the episode titles. There’s always the obvious, oh this is reference to the case, but then there’s what’s behind it - like with this one, it’s literal, while at the same time referencing perhaps a group of “frozen” or closed off hearts. There’s Nancy’s heart that she’s protecting, knowing now that her feelings for Ace are more than platonic, and in her protecting those feelings, Ace is there to perhaps not heed her warning, but venture forth anyway - not pushing, but just being there, as he so often is, forgoing any disclaimer about her walls for what she needs - which is someone to tell her it’s their loss, your amazing, and be there for her if she needs proofreading. And then there’s Ace’s heart, as if his own heart is frozen to the idea that he could have more than platonic feelings for Nancy and yet, everything around him serves as a warning - like an eight ball saying all signs point to yes, but she’s so important in his life, he doesn’t want to risk it.
Overall MVP
I’m going with Nancy for this episode only because the arc she had to go on during this episode - she had to go from putting all her hopes onto this one dream of hers she’s had for so long, to that dream finally coming to a halt and the devastation that caused her - to realizing she can “grow where she’s been planted” - I mean that’s what we call character growth everyone!
(also for her to be patient with her feelings for Ace after he returned from his trip and the growth of her allowing him to help her, to comfort her, slowly finding her words...my baby girl is growing up)
Most Heartfelt Moment
The Fanson proposal hands down - the care and attention Nick put into it - getting all the details right - paying attention to what George would want - it’s nearly perfect. And then the line he says  “no matter what tries to get in our way, I am never saying goodbye to you - in this life or the next” - wow what a line - I tear up every time.
Best Overall Line
Special mention to when Nancy and Ryan go to Icarus and Nancy assures Ryan  “Don’t worry it only looks haunted”
Show tagline alert.
(though the irony is most things are haunted...lol)
Best Comedic Moment
Ryan’s  “Like father daughter time” when Nancy asks him to join the case proceeded by him stumbling to put on his shoes is so adorable I can’t stand it.
And then Ace’s “Weirder things have happened...I can’t think of any right now.” I love him a normal amount <3
Scare Rating
This episode overall is pretty grotesque if you ask me - 10/10.
Nace Slow Burn Rating
In my analysis for this episode, I put how I thought the Columbia arc was also a metaphor for Nace this episode. Let me proceed to explain that.
So Nancy has had this dream, this idea, that she was going to go to the perfect school, go off to the city, and “find herself.”
And Nancy has Ace, who was never at the forefront of her mind, he was always her friend who she maybe felt a spark for (hello 1x10, and 1x14) but she never let it cross over into anything more than that.
Then she has a literal dream - she enters a vivid dreamscape and she sees - she sees what she’s pushed down, what she’s never really accepted as truth, but it’s always been there resting in her heart - that he can hold her - that he can hold all her pieces - even the broken ones.
Nancy had to go through an actual dream in order for her to realize he was always in her heart. And same with Columbia rejecting her. She had to go through the motions of a dream to realize she can grow from where she’s at - that her opportunity to settle into herself was never in some far off city, but was here in her hometown, it was always here in her heart - all along...
And just a moment to appreciate some of the Nace centric lines this episode -
“silence doesn’t mean he’s not thinking about you”
“some people like to ease into things before they get more serious ”
Favorite Fashion Moment
Nancy’s fashion this episode is on point. I think I loved every outfit.
Missing Moment Drabble
So I have two - one I wrote when I first watched the episode eons ago and another one I wrote just for this rewatch.

2x15 - The Celestial Visitor
Cue me unpacking the episode title -
So it’s a reference to Tom Swift, but the episode titles for the back half have also been alluding to that visitor attached to Nancy so I like to think this is a nod to that as well.
Furthermore, as we continue on the back half of season two, it’s the reference to the building up of Nace feelings, which I’ll go into below to unpack, but lets just say, there are forces at work in this episode, some could say are out of this world...
Cue the cheesy music...
Overall MVP
It’s hard to pick an MVP when it’s meant to be a crossover episode and the episode mostly centers around the guest star. A debate could be made Nancy is the MVP this episode, but Ace did so much important background work this episode, I’m naming him MVP.
Most Heartfelt Moment
I’m going out on a limb and saying when Ace holds the box for Nancy it was the most touching scene in this episode. Just because of the layers and the insinuation of feeling and the I’ll carry your weight implications of it all.
Best Overall Line
Tom Swift: Are you all broomstick people?
Wouldn’t you like to know Mr. Swift? 😏
But also:
Tom Swift: I was unfortunately prevented from getting the meteorite
Nancy Drew: Because of the ghosts - C’mon say it
I love sassy Nancy and her smile at the end of that line delivery was everything.
But let’s give the award to Nick with:  Well, if the world is going to end I want to end it next to you. ❤️
Best Comedic Moment
I mean the start of the episode is pretty humorous, but I have to say, I love when an outsider comes in and tries to poke holes within the Drew Crew vibe - cue Tom Swift and the numerous times he just has no time for these people and their ghost centric rituals. So it’s not really a singular moment other than the whole episode of disbelief and sass.
Scare Rating
Low scare rating this episode - maybe 2?
Nace Slow Burn Rating
So last episode Nancy basically broke down in her room over her fake birthday and Ace was hyper concerned and in my head he went up and checked on her but that’s a minor detail...
Anyways, so that concern is on full display in this episode - I think ever since 2x12 Ace has asked some form of the question are you ok and I love the consistency of that in the back half of the season - how every episode is not only laying the groundwork for something is off with Nancy and she’s behaving differently, but also driving to the forefront the feelings these two have for each other, how he cares for her so deeply and knows her so well, he can tell something isn’t right and he just wants to help. He just wants to help her.
So again, in the kitchen, he asks a version of are you ok - because he sees her face fall - the reminder of her being a “promising young woman” meant as a compliment, but instead shifts the gears in her mind that is she really? Because she doesn’t feel like it - she doesn’t feel like she’s been acting in any way “promising” - but he hears it - hears the implications of promising and proceeds into the kitchen, standing watch over her and asking if she’s ok, telling her “they are wanting you to be Nancy Hudson” - underlying in that statement that Nancy Drew is what’s at stake here - Nancy Drew is what is is being lost.
Don’t lose her please. I like her.
(I love her)
And again, she protests, less venomous than before out on the docks, this time with “I’ve dug my own grave” - almost a resigned tone to her phrase - nothing like her “I’m fine” or “it’s been an intense couple of weeks” snide comment from a few episodes ago. This is her with a guard down just a bit - not enough to say you’re right, I’m not ok - but enough to not be stubborn about it - enough to say, keep looking, you’re on the right track.
And throughout the whole episode it seems Ace is trying to be there for her - to find her - knowing she’s not herself - knowing she’s driving down a different path - toward Nancy Hudson and away from Nancy Drew - so he researches,  he gets the info first, he works (fights) with Bess, he holds a box for her! He does everything for her - for Nancy - while the Drew slips away and the Hudson armor is passed onto her.
And his face as he looks at her looking at the dress, wondering what she’s become - how she let herself fall like this - is the most tender look anyone could ever give a human being.
Don’t lose her please. I like her.
(I love her)
Favorite Fashion Moment
Bess in that beret was the only note I had and I think that’s all that needs to be said.
Missing Drabble Moment
