The Kiss & Kill Murder

Betty Williams was from Odessa, Texas, and was only a teenager when her ex-boyfriend, Mack Herring murdered her. The strange thing about this case? Betty had apparently asked Mack to kill her.
Both Betty and Mack were students at Odessa High School in 1961. Betty supposedly had more different views for the time, and was not afraid to express herself wearing outfits that were deemed unacceptable at the time. Betty was not popular, but Mack was extremely popular, being a football player.
Betty had had sexual activity with boys she was not in a relationship with and at that time, it was extremely frowned upon. She was seen as very taboo. Betty began dating Mack but he eventually broke up with her and began dating another girl.
Betty was completely heartbroken and others later claimed she had mentioned that if she couldn't have Mack she did not want to be alive. She was also having problems at home, as her father was enraged that she had been having sex before marriage and her other taboo behaviours, as he was a strict Baptist.
Betty worked for the school play, and it was mentioned by multiple witnesses after the fact that she had asked them to kill her, however everyone said they just assumed Betty had been joking or just looking for attention.
On March 20, 1961, Mack and Betty went on his parents hunting property in Winkler County. Mack shot Betty in the head with a twelve-gauge shotgun. He put weights on her body and threw her in a stock tank. She was only 17 years old. Mack later confessed that Betty had chosen the weapon.
On March 22, 1961, Betty's mother reported her missing and after Mack was interrogated he showed police where her body was.
Mack went on trial but was eventually acquitted of the murder of Betty Williams. There were arguments that Mack was temporarily insane when he committed the murder, however there was apparently information that he had told his current girlfriend of the plan to kill Betty, meaning he was in his right mind leading up to it.
A hearing took place in Kermit, Texas, meant to determine whether or not Mack had been sane at the time of Betty's murder. However, the Texas Supreme Court stated the judge lacked authority and a second trial was held in Beaumont, Texas. This was the trial the resulted in an acquittal.
After all of this, Mack never lost his popularity at school. Instead, many people slandered Betty's name, talking about how she had coerced Mack into the crime and how she would often be found hanging out with other footballs players after they had driven their own girlfriends home.
Shelton Williams, Betty's cousin, wrote a book in 2006 called "Washed in Blood" on the case.
There have supposedly been many reports of paranormal sightings at Odessa High School surrounding Betty Williams. Students claimed at midnight, if you called her name and flashed your headlights 3 times, the ghost of Betty would show up in the window of the auditorium.
Mack went on to live a pretty normal life, attending Texas Tech University. He married twice and got divorced twice, and died on January 5, 2019 at the age of 75.

ORLANDO, Fla. – MegaCon Orlando continues to add major names to its guest list for the pop culture convention next month.
On Wednesday, convention organizers announced the Gwendoline Christie, of “Game of Thrones,” “Wednesday,” “Sandman” and the Star Wars franchise would be appearing on Saturday, April 1.
Christie joins other Stars Wars actors like Hayden Christensen, Rosario Dawson, Giancarlo Esposito, Carl Weathers and Katee Sackoff.
Other actors coming to the convention include James McAvoy, Chevy Chase, Charlie Hunnam, Zachary Levi, Vincent D’Onofrio, Henry Winkler, Christina Ricci and more.
MegaCon is one of the largest pop culture conventions in the southeastern United States. It’s a four-day event covering sci-fi, fantasy, comic books, animation, film, TV, games and more.
MegaCon runs March 30 to April 2 at the Orange County Convention Center. Tickets are on sale on the MegaCon website.

The first two were memoirs (that weirdly actually overlap in time period, kinda late 90's early 2000's), the third is a biography (it also jumps around a bit more, there was one case in Oregon, but the vast majority of cases discussed took place in San Francisco, Berkley, or Contra Costa County so I'm counting it).
I guess I knew all three books would touch on death/murder but I didn't anticipate them all taking place in the same general area?

Golden Moon Farms providing thousands of pounds of fresh produce to families
LAS VEGAS, Nev. (WXYZ) — Every year, nearly 3,000 volunteers head to the Golden Moon Farms in Las Vegas.
"We are harvesting lettuce, which we planted a month ago," Ben Winkler said as he stood in the greenhouse Tuesday afternoon. "Got my scissors, got my rubber bands, wrap around, cut the stem off."
The 500-acre property grows fresh produce that helps to support families in Clark, Lincoln and Nye counties who face food insecurity.
"We have some basil growing over here. We have some parsley and cilantro under the wrap. We have some cucumbers. We just try to use as much space as we can," farm coordinator Lori Santos said.
Santos says she originally started at the farm as a volunteer. After realizing how fulfilling the work was, she began working at the farm full time and has now been there for the last seven years.
Santos says after the produce is harvested, it’s packaged into smaller quantities and taken to the Golden Moon Farms warehouse. From there, it’s dispersed to local food pantries and given directly to families in need. Santos says every pound of food harvested is equivalent to one meal.
"Yesterday, we harvested 3,100 pounds of zucchini. And I tell the volunteers it’s not everyday that you help supply food for 3,100 meals. I get to say that everyday," she said as she stood in the greenhouse.
Santos says on average, the farm produces about 600,000 pounds of food for Las Vegas families every growing season. This year, they're aiming to produce 774,000 pounds of food. The farmers say they'll be counting on volunteers to help them harvest it all.
"We do have a large number of volunteers that come out here every day, but we need more. We need more help," farm manager Mike Yeller said.
Yeller says although the work is hard and the hours are long, it’s the mission that keeps him and volunteers going.
"It’s watching full trucks of produce. We have a 53-foot semi with two stacks of pallets of produce leave here almost every day when we’re in full harvest season, and I know that’s 30 to 40 thousand pounds of food, 30 to 40 thousand meals that are going to help the community," Yeller said.

N.S. man gets 9 years in child sexual assault case after arrest in Manitoba: RCMP
A Nova Scotia man has been sentenced to nine years in prison for sexual assaults involving a child.
He was arrested in Manitoba after police in Winkler, a city about a 15-minute drive from the U.S. border, received information that a stolen vehicle found abandoned in the area was linked to a man wanted in Nova Scotia.
Police were then told about two men hitchhiking in the area, one of whom was believed to be from Nova Scotia.
Police say they found the hitchhiker and arrested him. The man, who is from Colchester County, was kept in custody.
Police say they believe he was trying to cross into the United States.
Two Colchester County District RCMP officers flew to Manitoba, and with help from the Manitoba RCMP Court Liaison Unit, brought him back to Nova Scotia.
In addition to the sexual assault charge from 2020, the man is charged with motor vehicle theft and failure to comply with an undertaking.
The man has since appeared in Truro provincial court and was sentenced to more than nine years for the sexual assault offences and Failure to comply with an Undertaking.
Later this month, the man will reappear in court for the motor vehicle theft.

Colin Kaepernick Denies Involvement In Sexual Assault Case
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick is denying that he has any involvement in a criminal case following an incident in a Miami hotel room. TMZ reported yesterday that Kaepernick is being investigated in connection with an alleged sexual assault.
“The charges made against me in the TMZ story and other stories I’ve seen are completely wrong,” Kaepernick tweeted yesterday. “They make things up about me that never happened.”
Kaepernick didn’t specify what details of the story were inaccurate, though TMZ reports that their source in the Miami police department has changed his story, downgrading the incident from a “sexual assault” to a “suspicious incident.”
Kaepernick followed up his earlier tweet by saying, “I want to thank all the people who have shared their encouraging sentiments. I assure you that your faith is not misplaced.”
The NFL star seems unconcerned with the allegations against him and has been spotted partying at various nightclubs several times since the investigation began.
Specifics about the incident remain scarce but according to TMZ, a woman claims she was naked in a bed with Kaepernick smoking marijuana and she later awoke in a hospital. The nature of her injuries are unknown.
Angelina Jolie Lookalike Forces Deliveryman to Bang Her at Knifepoint, Stabs Him Six Times
Luminita Perijoc, a 31-year old Romanian who prides herself on resembling Angelina Jolie, has been sentenced to four years in prison after stabbing a deliveryman six times.
The incident occurred after she made this same man perform oral sex on her at knifepoint.
According to court documents, the victim (Nicolae Stan) was delivering wine to Perijoc’s apartment when she threatened him with a four-inch blade and prompted him to undress.
She demanded vaginal and oral sex from Stan and, when he was unable to get an erection for a third go-around, she thrust her knife into him six times.
The victim was somehow able to escape to Perijoc’s and call the police from his cell phone.
A judge initially sentenced Perijoc’s to five years behind bars, but the sentence was reduced after she claimed to be on medication at the time of the attack.
“I think she wasn’t used to anyone saying no because she flew into a rage when I declined,” Stan said. “When I refused she attacked me with a knife, and forced me to have sex with her but she still stabbed me.”
Stan is a married father of three and says he understand folks may mock him for turning down someone who (sort of) looks like Angelina Jolie, but…
They don’t understand why I refused her, but they do not know what it is like to have a mad woman yelling at you at knifepoint,” he said. “They look at her, then look at me and laugh. But I think anyone would find it impossible to perform with a knife at their throat, even if they were with Miss Romania.”
We’d have to agree with that statement.
John Winkler, Tosh.0 Production Assistant, Mistakenly Killed by Police
Very sad news out of West Hollywood yesterday:
John Winkler, a 30-year old production assistant on Tosh.0, was shot and killed by police who believed him to be the culprit at a murder scene inside an apartment complex.
According to the L.A. County District Attorney’s Office, deputies were called to the complex amidst reports of a knife attack.
They arrived to find a man running out of his residence, holding a bloody neck would, with Winkler giving chase. Both individuals were headed toward the officers.
Prosecutors say that deputies fired at Winkler, thinking he was the attacker, and killed him on the spot.
“The apartment door suddenly opened and a male victim came rushing out,” read a statement from the LASD. “He was covered in blood and bleeding profusely from the neck. Simultaneously, victim Winkler ran out of the door, lunging at the back of the fleeing victim. Both ran directly at the deputies.”
It continued:
“Winkler was similar to the description of the suspect and was wearing a black shirt. Believing Winkler was the assailant and the assault was ongoing and he would attack the entry team; three deputies fired their duty weapons at him.”
Friends say Winkler, who moved to California six months ago, heard screaming from the apartment in question and had gone to check on the occupants.
The actual suspect, meanwhile, is now in custody and has been charged with murder, two counts of attempted murder and one count of torture in connection with what allegedly went down inside the building. For any Translation related help, visit Translation Agency UK
