So I've finally managed to start a supernatural rewatch since it ended. I had a really hard time coming back to it knowing it ended like.... that. I'm wondering if you (or anyone who reads this) has any really good fix-it fics to read instead of the finale? I'm planning on watching up to 15x19 (maybe only 15x18 depending) and then just reading a fic as the ending instead, so I'm looking for something that picks up right where it leaves off, and then wraps everything up in the way the finale didn't.
Thanks for all your meta and spn commentary and stuff. You're one of my fave accounts ♥️
oh gosh, hello! And thanks!
I've read a lot of great fix it fics for the finale, and heck i should've made a special tag for them on tumblr, but I think most of the ones I've seen have made it into my episode tag... only there's like 60 pages of posts in there and I'd venture to say that the majority of them aren't fics, but meta, gif sets, art, and like... generalized yelling. All of which may be interesting and useful to you anyway! Even if it's not all fic. :D
I've written several fics myself that fall under the umbrella of Series Fix It, too:
Revenge of the Text (25.5k, rated T because my intent was to make something that COULD have aired, though after posting I realized I could've given more screen time to Sam and Eileen, even though I pretty much give them their happy ending right at the start lol... priorities, after all)
what goes around... (468 words, rated T, short and angsty with a happy ending)
The Famous Final Scene (202 words of pure fix it)
Everything I've written set in canon since the finale is effectively finale fix it, too, even if it doesn't directly address the finale, because the assumption is life just went on, they got Cas back, and without Chuck's power there to beam their reality to our tv screens in our universe, some network exec panicked and aired ~whatever that was~ instead of what actually happened in their lives instead. So we have holiday fluff with For The Best, case fic with lectio in equis, and coming October 6 for the DCBB this year, I'll be posting Heart Shaped Box. And that's just my own fix its. There's soooo many.
Another good place to start is probably the Episode Fix-It: s15e20 Carry On tag on AO3, though ymmv on various different iterations of "fixing it." Like... i have less than zero desire to read any fix it involving them all being dead in heaven. That's not fixing it for me. So mind the tags on each story and find what YOU want to read. Because there's a lot there, and that means something for everyone!
And also, like some of my fic referenced above, post-canon fic that isn't directly ABOUT fixing the finale, but still carries on the original story either like the finale never happened at all, or else handwaves the fixing bit and moves right on with their lives without explaining in detail how everything was fixed-- a lot of those fics won't get tagged with the 15.20 fix it tag, for obvious reasons. Post-canon might be another good search term, to look for, as well.
Good luck with your rewatch! :D

reading the 15.09 script it really just strikes me how grief paralyzes Dean. The future that Chuck showed Sam shows Dean post-losing Cas, he's just. He's given up. He doesn't want to fight anymore. He's tired. Meanwhile Sam is after revenge, he "has a death wish", Dean wants to live because he family would have wanted him to, Cas would have wanted him to, but he's done with fighting. He doesn't have a death wish, he doesn't have a wish, he's just tired. Grief is paralyzing. It's exhausting.

A rant and theory
It’s really long, but I think I make some valid points.
Supernatural was on for 15 years. There have been interactions with the cast, some crew, some producers, directors, writers, etc. due to the ongoing conventions and the existence of social media. Writers will talk about changes to scripts, actors will talk about filming, directors will talk about why they chose a certain angle.
Given that most of the fans/stans do not personally know any of the people involved or personally know anything about the things that are/aren’t going on, it’s weird the way some fans/stans speak so confidently about what happened with SPN behind-the-scenes, production, writing, casting, you name it!
Especially when it comes to PrequelGate. People will state with their whole chest, that their version of events is absolutely correct. One J is an asshole, and one J is an innocent baby. Which J is which depends on who is talking. It can be either or both. The only thing that all fans who have theories have in common is that there is a definite good guy and a bad guy.
But the Js are still friends. They say they got over it and forgave. Since no one has given any details, I thought I’d join the bandwagon and come up with a theory of my own. One where there is no good guy/bad guy. So here goes.
I fully believe that the story of The Winchesters was not meant to be an AU. It was supposed to take place between 15.19 and 15.20, with Dean and Sam finding out about their parents.  They had to switch it to the AU version because of the leak, a new timetable, and the fact that Jared was no longer available. There is also a recent podcast (I don't have a link) where a writer from The Winchesters said that Robbie Thompson, the writer and show runner for The Winchesters, kind of knew that they were only going to get 1 season because of all the mergers/sales of the networks and studios.
Robbie Thompson said in an interview (https://tvline.com/news/the-winchesters-recap-season-1-finale-dean-heaven-multiverse-jensen-ackles-1234942742/)  “There was the spot that takes place in between Episodes 19 and 20, when what happens to Dean happens to Dean… So there was an opportunity to tell stories there, but that just didn’t work for me because we wouldn’t have access to Sam in that way, in a way that we could easily explain or at least emotionally explain, and that just didn’t feel like it was a story that certainly I wanted to tell and none of us did.” (Underlining mine) They wouldn’t have access to Sam because Jared could not be involved. Not because no one wanted him, but because he just couldn’t.
The reason I believe this is because of the following.
It starts with Virtual Con (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ADYwrZ787a0) held in March 2021. In the video, the question about Chaos Machine projects starts at around 23 minutes. Watch Jared’s face throughout Jensen’s whole answer. He’s nodding along, looking at his screen, and not even showing the slightest surprise in what Jensen is saying. He doesn’t because he already knows. To me, that is the face of someone who already knows what the other person is talking about. Jared already knows which projects Jensen is working on. He knows which alum he is talking about. So he just sits there and lets Jensen answer.  His quip at the end that he will also be acting in it is just that, a quip for the fans.  Because (supposedly) he is bound by a 5-year contract to CBS. He can not legally get involved in Jensen’s project with WB. He can acknowledge that he knows about it, but he has to show that he is absolutely not involved.
Next is the announcement of The Winchesters in June 2021 by Deadline. There were tweets by Jared that said he was upset that he didn’t know about it and that he wasn’t involved. There was also a tweet directed at Robbie Thompson calling him a back stabber that was later deleted. And, silence from Jensen, because he was unable to come online and address anything because he was on set in Canada.
Things were set in motion that were not meant to be put in motion for a while. I don’t think Chaos Machine was ready to start casting/filming yet. I think Jensen and Jared were trying to make it work with CBS so that Jared could be involved in the prequel. But those talks weren’t finished, or possibly even started yet. But the leak by Deadline, the WB/Discovery merger, and Mark Pedowitz leaving, combined to put pressure to do the show sooner, while Pedowitz was still in charge. If they waited, then nothing might come of Chaos Machine’s deal with WB once the new owners came in. Maybe they were waiting for Jensen to finish shooting The Boys to get together and talk about all this, but they still hadn't.
And this is what Jared was upset about. He thought there was time before the show would start, so was surprised that it was announced without him knowing. It also explains why he thought Robbie Thompson back-stabbed him. Because he was going to be a part of this show, and now he couldn’t. He couldn’t even say he had been part of the development from the beginning because it would be against his contract with CBS. He can’t even say wants to be a part of it now, because again, it would be against his contract with CBS. He’s upset, because he hasn’t had any communication from Jensen about this going through, and Jensen was also unreachable. So he vented online a little.
Once this narrative that Jared was never involved, and would not appear in it, spread, all of them had to run with it. Jensen apologized for not telling Jared. He said he was superstitious. He wanted to tell Jared, but he didn’t have his phone. That he was on set. That Jared couldn’t participate because he was busy. Etc. etc.
But, when Jared spoke with Jensen, and was (possibly) made aware that the news came out because it was leaked, and that they didn’t have time to clue Jared in, and (possibly) they were thinking of doing the show sooner because of WB, Pedowitz, Zaslav, etc., and that they were still in a holding phase, Jared forgave Jensen.
All of the above explains the inconsistencies and “lies” and “tantrums” and finally the forgiveness, and moving on.
I choose to believe that neither Jared nor Jensen are entitled assholes. They do not owe the fans any BTS details.
I’m sure people can tear this apart, but their theories don’t hold up either.

Round 1 of 6, Group 1 of 4
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Propaganda is under the cut (671 words) - may contain spoilers
summaries (pulled from imdb or wikis)
propaganda
Chén Qíng Lìng/The Untamed - 1.50 Episode 50
The mastermind who plans everything has appeared. He's not someone who wouldn't think he would be the one who is behind everything, including Wei Wuxian's comeback. Who would that be?
I nominate this final on grounds of CCP information control, censorship and homophobia. They were so scared of the power of wangxian that they ended up banning ao3 in china and in the show they have to inexplicably have them part ways just to hammer home the no-homo. Plus the show is just kind of objectively bad.... but it rewires your brain all the same
Supernatural - 15.20 Carry On
cw: suicide
After Chuck is defeated and someone takes his place, Sam and Dean go about their life of hunting, but things don't turn out as expected.
1) you know why 2) god. where do i fucking start. this episode completely ignores this large cast of characters that were considered family in order to make it the "just two brothers" show again, scrapping basically every shred of character development shown throughout the course of the show, cutting out incredibly important characters at the last second (i.e. eileen being replaced with blurry wife for no fucking reason, cas not being there at all despite the whole love confession/ dying for dean that happened just two episodes before). in the penultimate episode the boys fight god. the finale? a random vampire from an episode of season one, who up until this point had never been mentioned again. then we have Dean being impaled on a very phallic looking spike and, after a speech about it just being about the brothers, dies. he then goes to heaven, where his father figure tells him his abusive dad is just down the road. he hops in his car (also in heaven, somehow) and drives for the next 60 odd years waiting for Sam to die. meanwhile, sam is moving on with blurry wife and i shown with a son named dean (as seen stitched onto his clothes), and we eventually see sam, now old and clad in the crustiest looking wig i have ever seen, die in the hospital. he goes to heaven, meets Dean on a bridge, and the last shot is the entire cast and crew on the bridge saying goodbye, completely shattering the fourth wall because fuck it, who cares anymore. and this isn't even mentioning everything that happened after. just an absolute mess the whole way through. 3) Random villain from season 1 kills one of the main characters, he goes to heaven and drives around while the other main character gets a montage of growing old a horrible wig. And that's not even all. 4) It abandoned 15 years of series theme and character growth, veered away from the natural story line and failed to resolve major plot threads. Dean deserved better, and so did Cas. See also Jared's terrible wig, Dean jr, Dean driving through heaven for five minutes... 5) Dean dies in the most anticlimactic way, cheap wig, blurry wife 6) There was no Castel :( 7) I mean... 8) destroyed every character arc in one fell swoop. the guy who tried to kill himself and struggled with depression throughout the show ended up killing himself anyway! was cas’s death even important? who was blurry wife? why was the absolute ugliest toddler imaginable cast to play Sam’s son? but in order to truly grasp how decimating this finale was, you have to understand the queerbaiting between 15.18 and the finale. why did Misha post that pic in the onion field with Uriel. why was Misha originally credited to be in 19 episodes of the final season on IMDb. why was . Hrrgghh. 9) Do I even need to write propaganda for this one? Even though it was the series finale we are still here after 3 years 😂 Title said 'carry on', but the fandom said 'nah, time for season 16'. 10) Bad old man makeup and no castiel 11) Everything had been neatly wrapped up in the previous episode. Then they decided "Hey you know what would be great? If we just killed one of the main characters." They killed him for no reason. He deserved to live a full life, have a family, retire, but nope! He met his match in a RUSTY NAIL. Not to mention that there were terrible wigs, blurry wives, and subtextual incest vibes involved.
+ After it aired, one of the actors unfollowed everyone who had anything to do with the episode.

Give Me A Minute (To Hold My Girl) | Ona Batlle
Tumblr media
warnings: general angst
word count: 1641
summary: in a crowded town or silent bed, you were always at your most comfortable with ona…you wonder if that still holds true now
chosen song: hold my girl by george ezra
a/n: chapter 3/6 of you were bigger than the whole sky (you were more than just a short time)
Tumblr media
(Ona) 15.13
‘Hey.’
‘I know that you made the decision to reinitiate our friendship so I thought you should take the lead. I want this to go at your pace and only as far as you’re comfortable with because you deserve that. However, there is a screening of your favourite movie downtown and if you’d like to go…’
You frown at the message. The way Ona phrased things sometimes, it was like she still cared deeply for you. It contrasted sharply with her previous actions and you didn’t know what to make of it.
(You) 15.20
‘Yeah. I’d like to go.’
(Ona) 15.20
‘Great. I’ll send you an e-ticket in a bit.’
(You) 15.21
‘Gracias.’
******
Aitana was the one person you were still close to on the Spanish team. She was one of your closest friends growing up, along with Eva and Laia. The latter two however, were always closest to Ona so after the breakup and despite everything, you’d figured Ona would need her friends. It had been a conscious decision to kinda fall out of contact with them.
So Aitana’s the one whom you sometimes, occasionally (more often than not) ask how Ona was doing.
You cared for her (and you loved her) and while it seemed like Ona was able to just turn a switch off for how she felt about you, you struggled to do the same (struggling was putting it mildly, you simply couldn’t do it).
Years and years of your life were spent caring about the Catalan defender, it was practically wired into you.
You knew Ona better than you knew yourself which was why it kept you from sleeping most nights when you tried to figure out how she could have ended things so easily.
She’d promised she would never leave you and you knew that she took her promises seriously so of all the promises that she had made to you, how could she have broken the one that meant the most to you?
So while you received the occasional update from your childhood friend, you never thought that Ona would do the same and ask Aitana how you were doing.
******
Ona meets you at the cinema, cheeks, nose and ears flushed by the cold (you think she looks adorable).
Autumn was rapidly creeping up on Manchester, August bringing colder evenings and the beginning of preseason.
The past six weeks, you had never seen her as nervous as you did now.
‘Hola.’ The brunette softly says, an anxious smile on her face.
‘Hi.’
Ona shuffles her feet and then vaguely gestures towards the entrance.
‘Come on.’ You give her a brighter smile and some of her anxiety lifts.
Finding your seats is easy and you offer Ona the popcorn that you had bought as the opening plays.
‘No it’s fine. You like salty and I like-’
‘Sweet. I remember. This is sweet.’
‘Oh. Thank you.’ Ona’s voice is faint and she stays silent for the rest of the movie.
When the end credits roll, the Spaniard quietly follows you out into the night air.
‘You want to get something to eat Oni?’
Your back is to her so you don’t notice the pained expression that crosses her face.
‘Okay.’
Her voice is strained but she manages to give you a little smile when you turn around.
******
The both of you ended up at a small quaint Spanish restaurant where you prop your head up on your hand as you wait for your food to arrive.
‘How’s Barcelona going?’
‘It’s been good. Sunny.’ Ona answers.
You smile, ‘That’s an understatement.’
Ona winces again, ‘How’s Manchester been?’
‘It’s still too cold and it’s been red.’
‘Red?’
‘Yeah. We kept Manchester red.’ You grin proudly and that gets Ona to laugh.
‘I’m glad.’
There’s something you can’t figure out in her eyes and it stays for the majority of the evening. She laughs and smiles with you but you can see that something is bothering her.
You don’t pry however, knowing that it was more effective if you let her come to you instead (because that’s what friends do right? they help each other).
It’s why you insist she comes over to yours to watch a movie when it starts pouring with rain. The plan had originally been for her to take a taxicab from your apartment (the apartment that used to be hers too) to her hotel but it would be far more expensive now.
Ona agreed when you’d reasoned with her and that lead to where you were now, unlocking the door of the all too familiar apartment.
You have to admit, you didn’t quite think through your actions because letting Ona back into the home you once shared with her is far more painful than you’d expected it to be.
Your ex swallows hard as she steps over the threshold, fighting back tears as she realises you’d kept most of the decor the same.
The coat rack that she had spent half a day putting together when you had both moved in, the coffee table that you had bickered over buying and the plants that she had bought on a whim (those plants would have died if Ona was the only one taking care of them).
It was one thing for you to choose to remain in the same apartment but it was another for you to keep it almost exactly the same as before.
The brunette toes her shoes off and sets them carefully down by the door.
You stay quiet and you know that this moment is affecting you just as much as it’s affecting her.
‘Thank you for letting me back in here. I know this can’t be easy for you.’ Ona whispers and you nod, tears slipping down your cheeks.
Trying your best to hide them, you go into the kitchen and take a moment to compose yourself before Ona follows after you.
‘Wine?’
‘Only a little please.’ She murmurs.
You pour the both of you a half glass each and take them out to the living room.
Once again Ona follows after you but her gaze is momentarily caught by the lack of photos on one of the walls. Most of the photos that had been there have now been replaced with photos from recent years. Photos without her in it.
It adds another crack in her heart and she sniffles quietly.
The brunette joins you on the couch (it’s the same couch from four years ago, the same couch she had fucked you on multiple times), keeping her eyes on the blank television screen.
You switch it on and the channel it’s on is a winter sport channel. More specifically it’s figure skating that is showing.
You don’t react, simply switching it over to Netflix and handing Ona the remote.
‘I-’ The flustered Barcelona defender looks from the remote to you repeatedly.
‘Pick us something to watch Ona.’
‘I-’ Ona stammers and she frowns before clicking on Friends.
As the night wears on, both you and Ona refill your glasses more than once. If it wasn’t for the fact that you and Ona were sitting on opposite sides of the couch, it would be just like before.
******
There’s a silence that only comes when two people understand each other.
You and your girlfriend always had that. That didn’t change when you moved to Manchester together and you supposed it came from years of dating each other.
In a crowded town or a silent bed, you’d always be at your most comfortable with her.
At twenty one, you curl up next to Ona in your new apartment in which you had both just finished unpacking.
You had been enjoying the quiet, Ona’s soft breaths in your ear, the only sound in the room.
That is until Ona mumbles an ‘I love you.’ against your hair as she presses a kiss there.
‘I love you too.’
You snuggle further into her side and Ona laughs, kissing your hair again.
She wraps her arms around your waist, ‘I’m so glad we’re here and starting this new chapter of our lives together. You’re the only one I’d want to do this with.’
‘Me too Onita. Me too.’
******
Ona falls asleep.
You laugh softly when she lets out a snore. It seemed that Ona still didn’t drink much and more than two glasses of wine still proved too much for her.
She looks so peaceful lying there and it’s still raining out so there’s no point in waking her up right?
And if you cover her in a blanket before you go to sleep in your bedroom it’s because that's what good friends do isn’t it?
******
You wake early but when you go to check on Ona, you find that she’s woken earlier.
The brunette is standing in front of your photo wall and though she tries to hide it when she sees you, it’s clear that she has been crying.
‘Ona what’s wrong?’
‘Everything!’
Her sudden outburst scares you and you reach for her arm only to have her pull away.
‘Don’t touch me!’
You flinch back and Ona looks at you with fresh tears in her eyes.
‘I don’t deserve this. I don’t deserve you.’
It’s a broken, defeated admittance, one that confuses you.
‘I don’t understand.’
Apparently that’s the wrong thing to say because Ona snaps, ‘Exactamente! You don’t understand and I don’t see how you can do so!’
Her raised voice and sudden anger gives you that feeling inside, the one that you never know will make you cry or yell back.
‘Why don’t you understand!’
Her heated words are the final straw and you coldly tell her, ‘You can see yourself out Ona. If there’s one thing you’re good at, it’s leaving.’
Spinning around, you’re slamming your bedroom door shut a moment later.

Is there any more info on where in the timeline of SPN canon they wanna set the revival on?
My source told me about the pitch before Jared talked about it at jibcon in August of '22. Like Jared said later at that convention, they were thinking about setting it between 15.19 and 15.20. Obviously, that's going to be harder as they get older, so that's why they also talked about being sent back from heaven.
The source that knew about it before jib22 said it was not pitched through CMP, which I thought was very interesting. It would be through a production company of WBD's choosing with both Js as executive producers. The source said that TW was the only thing that CMP had on the books, which proved to be true.
Since then, both of the Js have talked in more detail about it, sometimes in m&gs. I'll share what I can. It's something that they both want to do. The brass at WBD have totally changed since it was pitched. They don't have the allies that they used to, but Supernatural is still an IP that makes money.
Any reboot would not be on the CW. The most likely options are WBD platform, Amazon or Netflix.
J2 insist on EP control. They are not going to let anyone else tell them how Sam and Dean would act.

i’m trying to write a s15 fix it fic and i’m kinda stuck on what the ending for heaven should be. along with other smaller details i have figured out, i know jack’s not gonna be god, and neither will amara, but that means heaven can’t keep functioning as it has been, smth needs to change. i do have a few ideas, but i’m interested in what someone like you, who has a much more comprehensive knowledge of spn than i do, thinks. like how you wish the ending happened (other than dean living ofc), how you wish they handled the cosmic consequences of taking out chuck?
and ofc i won’t like steal your ideas! i’m just looking for inspiration and another perspective in order to flesh out my basic ideas
Well... to be honest, when I read fix it fics I often skip the world building aspects surrounding "new heaven structure". Honestly I'm more the kind of person to feel that part of the fun of fic is not having to do complicated world building and getting right into the character-oriented portions of the story. 😂
As far as my own wishes: I am a HUGE proponent of an open ending for Supernatural. Because Supernatural is about a battle between the concepts of Free Will and Destiny, and the final season, in particular, is about an evil author/god writing the characters lives, I feel the only narratively satisfying conclusion is one where even the irl author sets the characters free from their vision (after a certain point—obviously we want to have our fun and set the characters up for success). This is a HUGE issue with the actual series finale in my mind—that it attempts to write out the entirety of the characters lives even into eternity, entombing them in the author's vision with absolutely nothing left to the imagination when this show was MADE for a "ride off into the sunset" style ending because it's about free will. 15.20 simply was not that—it was far FAR too intrusive.
I mean to be totally honest because of its negative narrative significance, I kind of think heaven should simply implode. I think it would be very cathartic for everyone involved. The Winchester's provided (imo) an excellent landing pad for a fully canon-compliant fix-it fic where Dean once again tears apart the script. And yes—to me heaven is still someone else's script in 15.20, whether that was the authorial intent or not. Even if one isn't "Chuck won" truthing, one still has the line, "Cas helped" in 15.20—meaning that at the very least, Cas and Jack are trying to write paradise. They are trying to write The Future. (I discuss my criticisms of that here). This is also why the summary for my own WIP fix-it... looks like this:
Castiel abruptly drops the cassettes onto the kitchen table in a clatter, barely avoiding Mary’s morning coffee. “I need help understanding your son.”  Much to Castiel’s consternation, Dean… isn’t happy with the heaven Cas and Jack have designed and built for him. If that wasn’t clear enough from his preference for universe-hopping to alternate worlds over spending time in the heaven literally designed to be his personal peaceful paradise, or his in turns defiant and despondent attitude when grounded (read: when he hasn’t quite figured out how to chew through the plastic of his “cage” yet again)… it would be impossible for Cas to miss the fact that Dean will barely speak to him. Instead, he afflicts Castiel with one-track cassette tapes.
On a symbolic level, to me, heaven in SPN represents false paradise. It represents Free Will losing to Destiny. It’s a hopeless, helpless, ultimate: “No matter what you do, you will always end up here”. Even if you succeed at defying The Man in life, you will ultimately be forced back into a heaven where someone else’s vision for your life plays out for the rest of eternity, sold as "paradise". You will always end up back in The Beautiful Room. The afterlife doesn't have to be conceptualized that way, but I think the "new" heaven in 15.20 still heavily misses the mark for me in this regard, especially given the surrounding context.
All of that said, in a more general sense, I think what you do with heaven in a fix-it fic really depends heavily on what relational/emotional themes you're exploring in the fic. For example, say I want to write a fic where Dean reflects on his life being full of responsibilities that were too big and how this deeply warped his sense of self-worth. Say though that I largely explore Dean's feelings and reflections on this through Jack, in the present, cracking under the pressure of being expected to be God. A narratively satisfying ending to that fix-it might intentionally leave the question of what exactly becomes of heaven an open question, because the catharsis in the end is that it isn't Jack's (or anyone else in TFW's) responsibility to figure that out. To have Jack say "I'm trying so hard to make everyone happy everyone wants me to make paradise and I don't know how and I'm drowning", and for Dean to say "You don't have to make paradise. You don't have to do any of this. It isn't your job." Could be a very emotionally poignant conclusion to a fic that focuses on that theme.
I wonder if taking even a further step back would also help? By which I mean: the concept of a heaven as a whole, or hell, or purgatory... they're all assumedly of Chuck's design, and while that doesn't make having four afterlife locations (including The Empty) inherently bad, it also doesn't make make for inherently good design either—practically or ethically. The angels were having trouble keeping the lights on upstairs as their numbers dwindled, Purgatory is an absolute mess (think about where Garth and Bess and their kids will end up...) The only place possibly doing okay in the end is Hell, under Rowena's rule. Death had lots of concerns about balance between the various afterlife areas and I actually think it would be hilarious to give Death... 4.0? a heart attack by just being like "Well... what if we just got rid of some of these places? What if we were trying to stay upright and balance on a seesaw instead of on a ball that can turn in any direction? Do we really need a separate afterlife for monsters? Can heaven and hell just both be in the same place and Rowena and a few other people run it?" Though the need for a new Death could also mean... a new one comes in with a new idea about how to structure the afterlife, but then you also have to ask yourself how intricately you want to detail any of this. If your primary goal is to build the most comprehensive possible fix-it fic that addresses any conceivable question a reader might have about the new reason of the world, then you might finely detail the new concept of the afterlife. On the other hand, if you're more interested in exploring an emotional theme, it might make sense to have whatever happens or doesn't happen with heaven symbolize or relate to an emotional/relational theme within in your story.
Idk that was very rambly sorry I hope it helps a little with brainstorming!

My tag for this one is short, but it’s almost entirely about the heart imagery in the series that gets pinned to Dean. I kind of regret pushing that so hard for so long, considering what happened in 15.20, but >.>

Catharsis is a very important part of storytelling. Watching 1.13 finally handed me the cathartic note I needed.
And it gave me Dean back and freed him from the narrative trap 15.20 left him in. Opened up on context and pov, used a different tone and execution and took a different route into Dean’s story. Without changing the plot tent poles. TW 1.13 is a transformative, recontextualized, and widened and deepened response. And I cried like I couldn’t with 15.20 and it was the cathartic kind of crying, it was joy and sadness. It was what 15.20 promised me it would be yet wasn’t, not for me, and I don’t think ever will be. Now it’s just a stumble in a longer, much bigger story, for Dean’s emotional journey, and for the spn universe.
THERE’S SO MUCH TO UNPACK HERE
So I’m going to be making a bunch of posts. Let me start with Dean.
So Dean makes it Heaven after the rebar, however he’s still full of sadness and regrets, about his own death about things left unsaid and the fates of himself and his closest people, and those relationships, and not just that, the cumulative sadness of his family’s tragic history, I think, hit him all at once there. TW has been about trauma all along and especially as a reflection on Dean’s trauma. We don’t have all the answers to all the mysteries so “why not rebar undo” is something that we should get answers on later. I was right about how important context is. This is only the beginning of the continuing story. We don’t have all the context on that so I’m sticking a pin in it and asking people to stay open-minded on how undoing that is not the only path out of the dark forest 15.20 left many of us in, I also don’t know what outcomes are going to be.
So Dean, restless and despairing and with his emotional journey not complete, decides if he can’t have his happy ending, he’ll find a universe where his family does. Since Chuck’s shitty drafts pretty much all implode and end up in destruction and even worse scenarios than spn prime, Dean HAS TO MAKE HIS OWN DRAFT.
HE TAKES CONTROL OF THE NARRATIVE.
This full on loudly acknowledged the immense sadness of the spn prime ending, in an spn universe show, and its sadness to Dean and that is also immensely cathartic. Jensen, being an EP and the spn universe boss rn, wants people to know, he gets it. While he doesn’t trash the finale on con stages, doesn’t mean he doesn’t understand.
I’m listening to what the story’s singing to me.
And we get more Dean pov and Dean’s story now. He’s got almost everyone he’s ever loved and instead of just driving around aimlessly for 40 years he finds a new mission, to protect the world of spn prime, where Sam’s trying to live a life. Of course he’s going to safeguard that, just like he went and made his own better draft in an AU world to give some version of his family and their found family a better chance. It’s a fundamental misunderstanding of Dean and who he is to reduce this to “did it all for Sam.” Of course he’s going to safeguard Sam, as he has since they were children. There are wider deeper reasons he did this. He didn’t do this just for Sam and everyone else he cares about on earth prime (& you can miss me pretending he wouldn’t care about safeguarding Garth’s family, or Jody and Donna’s), he also did this due to his own pain, his own hurt, his own need for comfort.
Dean matters. And there’s a whole PLOT here born from Dean acting on that sadness.
This next stage of his arc is just BEGINNING THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING. Because while Dean’s viewpoint that if he can’t have a happy ending, everyone else will, Sam will have it, AU John and Mary will have it, is very Dean, him actually going around to other worlds to save people to others can be happy, is a way he copes, he still hasn’t addressed within himself his own need for a happy ending and that he can find one for himself. And no, that isn’t about Sam and Dean on the bridge.
What TW did here was acknowledge the Sam and Dean bond while it’s also showing how Dean can exist without Sam beside him, so long as he knows Sam is safe. This is not a hypothetical or speculation. That is what TW just showed us and that is really important for Dean’s arc. His people are important to him. But his trauma was never just about Sam. The reason he is the way he is about Sam isn’t about Sam, it’s about trauma. We’ve seen Dean hit those same points with his very closest people—over John, over Cas, over Sam, it’s reflection on how deep those relationships go it’s also a reflection on Dean. It’s about Dean. It’s about him and his big heart and his trauma and how he deal with loss and trauma.
Dean’s motivations may be to protect others, that’s part of who he is, that’s also—I feel like far too many people don’t stop to ask WHY. What makes Dean tick. There are different ways to react to loss, grief, or show love, why is Dean the way he is.
This is exactly what I needed to see, this kind of exploration of Dean after 15.20. No it’s not done yet, it’s not going to repair all the wounds all at once. So for those still hurting, I’m just going to beg them to remember this is just the start of a new stage of Dean’s story and the TW finale just blew his story wide open.
That 40 year gap.
We are in the [OMMITTED]
This is Dean’s story. I AM GOING TO START CRYING AGAIN.

I have a lot to say about this episode, but I think I’m not gonna be able to be properly coherent about it until after I’ve had a chance to watch it again, because WOW. So imma just some up some things I’ll expand on later.
First off... Baba O’Riley AND Ramble On? The Who AND Zep in one episode?! I think that automatically puts this in the top ten Supernatural episodes of all time. Yes I’m counting it.
Because this very much did feel like an episode of Supernatural, too.
I absolutely hated the idea that this would be a spinoff of Dead Dean In Heaven telling us a story. That was gonna be my nope out point for watching any more. But the way they handled it... I can live with, and it’s honestly miles and miles better than whatever 15.20 gave us.
I don’t trust that This Jack is OUR Jack. I mean... it’s whatever Jack became at the end of 15.19, sure, okay... but that ain’t Jack...
The Akrida were Chuck’s creation killswitch? To be released if he was ever defeated to wipe out humanity? Well... fascinating that Dean just happened to stumble across them while scouring “heaven” for proof that any iteration of his family actually got a happy ending, and was able to annihilate them. Or, at least, Baby was able to annihilate them. Chuck always did underestimate her :’)
Which brings me to Detroit, because in this show, we always end up here somehow, yes?
It’s the crossroads (or the bus depot) where Dean interfered with this John’s future and gave him the key to being able to write his own story.
and then gave him a handy notebook full of tips on how to do that.
But we still have this lingering question of what DEAN’S happiness is. It can’t just be trolling through universe after universe trying to create happiness for everyone BUT himself. WHAT WOULD MAKE HIM HAPPY, AND WHY DOESN’T HE HAVE THAT YET IN SUPPOSEDLY PERFECTLY HAPPY HEAVEN?!
See, this is why I can be okay with this, and in a lot of ways, this actually HELPS. I actually, for the first time in two and a half years, feel even a tiny bit better about the travesty of a finale. Because this? This basically says that was not okay. And for now, I can live with that.
And I’ll have more to say, but heck... that’ll have to wait a bit.

It had been months since Y/N’s passing and Dean was finally back from being within Michael’s mind prison. How? Sam had no clue. He was just happy to have his brother back, but yet, also griefed with the burden of having to present him with the letter she had left. A bittersweet moment.
“Dean, I have a letter for you,” Sam sighed as he handed the envelope to his older brother, Y/N’s handwriting along the outside.
“I don’t want that,” Dean gruffed back.
“Why?”
“Because it’s a goodbye letter, and I’m going to figure out how to bring her back,” Dean replied like it was another milk run. “It’s my fault she’s dead and-“
“And what Dean!” Sam snapped back. “You think we haven’t looked for a way? There is no way!”
“I’ve looked,” Cas spoke up with solemness. “Her presence, it’s gone. She’s not in heaven, hell, purgatory, or anywhere that can be touched.”
“She’s somewhere,” Dean gruffed back. “People don’t just disappear. We’ve all died a million times and we’ve come back. That’s the way it has been.”
“Maybe it’s the way it should be,” Sam breathed out deeply.
“You shut your mouth,” Dean growled while pointing hard at Sam. “She belongs here. It’s my fault and I have to fix this.”
“Dean,” Sam sighed. “It’s not your fault. It was Michael and-“
“No, it was me who plunged the knife into her!”
“Dean I-“ Sam started to mutter but could not find the words. He didn’t know it was him nor why.
“She put the blade in my hand and I stabbed her!”
“She put the blade in your hand?” Cas spoke up, his eyes furrowed with intrigue.
“Yes, and you know the screwed up part?” Dean growled. “She said ‘I’ll see you soon’. Like what the hell am I supposed to do with that but find a way to get her back!”
“You’re her weakness,” Cas spoke up again. “Gabriel- he showed us.”
“Cas-“
“She knew, she knew that if you did it, it would be final,” Cas revealed with a grim sigh.
“It’s not final,” Dean breathed out. “It can’t be.”
“Here,” Sam handed him the letter again. “Just- just read it. Hopefully it will give you answers.”
Sam walked out with Cas, hoping that Dean would listen to them. Y/N was gone and she meant it to be.
“You know she probably saved us all?” Cas spoke to Sam.
“What do you mean?” Sam questioned him.
“Michael. He was trying to make more of her. Those bodies… what we found when we got Dean back. He must have known… she must have known what he would do if he were to have her.”
“Selfless to the end,” Sam sighed. “I just wish she would have told us sooner.”
“Would you have let her?” Cas looked up to Sam.
He was right; he wouldn’t have. He knew what losing her meant to him, but most of all, what it meant to Dean. This was killing him and this was one case he didn’t think could ever be solved.
_____
Dean sat in his room in silence, holding the letter in his hand steadily. Tears formed in his eyes as he rubbed his fingers along his name. He didn’t want to open it. Opening it meant that it was real; she was gone. With a deep breath he carefully undid the glue that held the envelope together and pulled out the letter. Even the paper smelled like her; orchards, jasmine, and something sweet he could never name. He smiled while the tear fell down on the paper as he opened it.
My Dearest Dean,
I know what needed to be done was not fair to you. I could have done it a million different ways, but… I couldn’t go without seeing you, the real you one last time. If I had stayed, all we loved would have been lost. Death had shown me and it would have been Michael eventually to end my life; but not before hurting everyone that we both love. I know it’s a character flaw, but one that I know you understand too well. I cannot let those I love be hurt when I could stop it. I’m sorry it had to be you, but it was the only way for sure that I knew that he could never touch me.
All our lives we’ve known each other, without knowing. Fate played its part in keeping us together; while others moved to tear us apart. That’s why I trust that someday, we will be together again. I don’t know when or where that will be, but I have faith in it.
Please live your life and continue to protect our family. They will need you now more than ever. There is still work to be done and someday, when it is your time, I will see you again somewhere over the rainbow. Someplace that we call home.”
Yours Truly,
in this world and the next,
Y/N
_________
Two years later-
Dean opened his eyes, the sun blinding him as they focused and he was met with the most spectacular view he had ever seen. The endless blue sky, the green pastures and mountains in the distance, it was all breathtaking.
“Well, at least I made it to Heaven,” Dean smiled.
“Yep,” a familiar voice spoke up, startling him.
Dean walked around towards the voice and saw Bobby, sitting on a chair in front of 'Harvelle's Roadhouse'.
“What memory is this?”
“It ain't, ya idjit,” Bobby laughed.
“Yeah, it is,” Dean stated as walked and looked at the roadhouse. “Cause the last I heard, you... you were in Heaven's lock-up.
“Was.”
“Now I'm not.”
“That kid of yours, before he went... wherever, made some changes here. Busted my ass out. And then he…” Dean sat down next to him, still in disbelief. “Well, he set some things right. Tore down all the walls up here. Heaven ain't just reliving your golden oldies anymore. It's what it always should have been. Everyone happy. Everyone together. Rufus lives about 5 miles that way... With Aretha.
Thought she'd have better taste. And your mom and dad... they got a place over yonder. It ain't just Heaven, Dean. It's the Heaven you deserve.
And we've been waiting for you.”
Bobby moved to open a cooler between their chairs and pull out a couple of beers. He hands one over to Dean as he opens his own.
“So, Jack did all that?” Dean asked.
“Well... Cas helped. It's a big, new world out there. You'll see.”
Dean shook his head in satisfaction as he pulled the bottle to his lips.
“Oh, wow. This tastes like the first drink I ever shared with my dad.”
“Quality stuff?”
“No, it's crap,” Dean laughed. “But it was fantastic.”
“Just like this?”
Dean felt the ping of sadness as he remembered his last earthly moment. Sam telling him it was okay. Telling him to let go.
“It's almost perfect.”
“He'll be along,” Bobby informed him, almost as though he could read his thoughts.”Time up here, it's... it's different. You got everything you could ever want... or need or... dream.”
Dean took a deep breath and sighed. It was all almost perfect. All he could ever want or dream. He knew what that was, or rather who. But instead of seeing her, he was having a beer with her father.
“So, I guess the question is... what are you gonna do now, Dean?”
Dean glanced over at Bobby who moved his gaze off to the front of them with a smile. Dean's eyes followed his and saw her. Baby sitting there pretty parked along the road.
“I think I'll go for a drive,” Dean smiled before getting up from his spot and moving towards her.
“Have fun.”
“Hey, baby,” he stated as he approached her, looking at her with pride that she made it too.
“Hey back there,” he heard another voice state.
Dean whipped himself around to see Y/N standing there with Baby’s keys.
“What? Did you think it was the car talking to you?” she laughed. “Ya idjit.”
“Y/N,” he rushed over and gripped her up tight, lifting her off the ground in the process in a spinning motion.
As he set her back down he couldn’t believe his eyes. It was her. Y/N. The smile could not be torn off of his face.
“How?” he breathed out.
“Like I said,” he turned his gaze back to Bobby who was now walking up with a woman who looked like Y/N next to him, his arm draped around her shoulder. “It’s the heaven you deserve.”
Dean continued to smile as he turned back to Y/N and gave her the biggest kiss he had ever had.
“Now you make sure you bring her back at a decent time, ya hear?” Bobby spoke up again, causing Dean to pull away from the kiss with a raised brow.
“Bobby?” he chuckled as he motioned around him.
“Nothing crazy, just before the next century,” Bobby chuckled back.
“Thanks dad,” Y/N smiled as she handed Dean the keys. “Let’s go old man. Live for once.”
“I plan on it,” he smiled back as the two of them entered the car and drove off with nothing but the road ahead. His home and his heart all in the same spot. The perfect ending
I hope you all enjoyed this. Leave the love if you will.❤️❤️

hanG ON WAIT is the entire reason it was vampire jenny in 15.20 because of the queer coding in Dead Man’s Blood
The woman who got turned by the bisexual vampires comes out of nowhere, Dean gets stabbed by a very phallic object that should not have been in the plot, and because it’s dean it’s through the heart (because it’s always Dean’s heart)
Dean spends the episode in a gray life, hugging the dog (and Cas is always the dog), and he doesn’t want to keep going when there’s a chance to get out
IS THAT WHY
DID DEAN WINCHESTER DIE BY BISEXUALITY
Cause he sure as fuck died of a broken heart

supernatural is actually the best tv series of all time. disregarding bugs, because what the fuck was that, and everything that happened post 15.18, because fuck that, supernatural is so complex and beautiful, funny and scary (for a bit), happy and terrifying all at once. it told this incredible story of two brothers going through hell and back together and apart to save each other and the world. the best love story ever told of the righteous man and the angel of thursday, who fought and saved and loved each other, despite it all.
this show told everything with so much attention to detail, through beauty and horror, all at once. just think of the fact they managed to sum up almost every monster's story, demons and angels, heaven and hell, god, afterlife, alternate universes, crime and punishment, justice and bad luck, trauma and change and second chances, all into one magnificent, unprecedented magical story. sure, it was bad. awful, even. we were toyed with, as viewers. emotionally invested and tormented for it. queerbaiting at its very best.
I am a queer person, and I absolutely love destiel and thought the show could have done so much better not only to them but to sam, jack, charlie, and so many other characters.
and yet,
I love it.
I completely ignore 15.19 and 15.20 when I think about spn because, to me, they simply do not exist. they dismissed everything that mattered in the story and butchered every single character's arc.
but spn in general gave me my most beloved characters, my favorite love story, my comfort moments, and a lot of reasons for joy. It kept me alive at times.
of course, it was queerbaiting. but it was also, at least to me, a slow burn love, and it made it that much more real because it was that much complicated.
It should have done better. we, the characters, and the cast deserved better. but the reason we deserved better in the first place is because this series showed us this story. THE story. and we wouldn't have known without it. It gave us this monstrosity we love so deeply.
so I hate it. but I also love it.
and that's why it's my favorite artwork of all time.
simply put, nothing will ever be the same.

i don’t really go here anymore but i Literally do not care about the alternate version of the 15.20 script misha talked about during the con because i will never be happy with an ending that killed dean. i’ve talked about it before and explained why killing dean is the most disrespectful and disgusting message to the fans so i’m not rehashing it here. if you would have been satisfied with the ending solely if cas was in dean’s heaven then i can’t relate.
