so yeah tldr im the op of those house fics on ao3 with that dude james who hooks up with rufus if that wasnt obviously enough already LMAOO.... like i feel like im the only one who actually cares about rj as a character so, You Know!

anyway its sappy hours so i wanna make some dumb wordvomit infodump shit about my boy. the basics of his character is that hes a trans guy living in 70s midwestern american who goes on the run from his dad who wants to get a conservatorship over him and or admit him to a Ward. like, by the time the fic starts hes legally in charge of him due to “gender delusions” or whatever, and was basically about to lock him up in their house with no escape. had it been like... 20 years earlier james would have been lobotomized probably.

but luckily he has a car so he dips and goes on a cross country roadtrip to get his titties off. and he does! but his dads a scumbag and hires a private investigator detective guy to track him down and bring him home, so hes gotta bail. homeboys like, half dead from pain pills and post surgery Funk but he somehow manages to make it all the way to texas before his car finally fucking bites it. on the side of the road. in rural texas.

when a girl beats him over the head with a pipe its like, probably not as bad as having to deal with that skin glue shit peeling off him as he heals. like, after that anythings a walk in the park except the weird stinky albino cannibals room he wakes up in. that shit sucks. but luckily hes only like, ketamine or something because he sees his chest scars and is convinced hes like, a sign from the devil/the human incarnation of baphomet. so hes like, hey dude. sorry about that i had a gamer moment you wanna hang out? and james is like dude wheres my fucking car

anyway. baby turns into a fag hag and they bond. mamas all like shit if you live here now you gotta have a cosplay for halloween. james has to go into town with rj and hes like, haha i hate you and if you leave i get to kill you and james is like lets talk about that internalized homophobia and then by the end of the convo rjs got feelings. investigator guy is there and he sees james and shit gets fucked. they go to some fucking clown and eat some chicken. long story short homeboy ends up bashing the investigator’s head in and is formally adopted into the cool murder hick club 

i think its really really interesting in a lot of older horror and like, send ups of 70s slashers how they view gender and like sexuality. theres nothing too explicit in house (besides otis being gay and like wearing a cheerleader outfit) but i think the thing im drawn too (as a gay and trans person) is the way the family just seems to like.. Exist Out Side Of Societal Norms. i mean yeah theres the obvious cannibalism and like, murder shit going on but mama seems like... a really relaxed mom? and their dad’s a clown. i feel like they only judge you if your some hipster piece of shit.

which is like, literally canon. they arent even hostile towards the 4 kids who they end up killing and fucking with until halfway into the movie and by that point theyve been verbally harssing them for like, an entire night. and for what? they took them in, helped them with their car (that they fucked up but they didnt know that at the time), FED THEM and even offered to let them stay for their holiday party. like, they are nothing but nice to these kids but they just wanna mock and exploit them. thats the entire point. like the men see baby as a sex object and their gfs are too up their own asses to realize that maybe they shouldnt threaten the woman for their men being dogs? so they call her names? when its obvious shes probably a lesbian anyway? like what straight girl knows how to lipsync in the 70s she learned that shit at a gay club ANYWAY IM GETTING OFF TOPIC

what im trying to get at here is i think theres an underlying theme, intentional or not, in most of robs films that seems to highlight how people from better off or more “developed” areas love to swarm to the south/rural areas in order to profit off their “misery”. the entire crux of house, what starts this shit off, is that they go on some road trip in order to gawk at roadside attractions run by people just trying to make a living. they dont view the family as people, just props for them to exploit and use for wank fuel because they dress a certain way. their nothing but meat to consume for these people, just subhuman entertainment to them. 

i kind of wanted to highlight some of that in my shit. like, james as a character is someone who always been an outsider for obvious reasons. when he was on his trip he was seen as some kind of freakshow (he didnt pass for most of it) and like, finding the fireflys and seeing how they operate? was like a breath of fresh air. like he fit in for the first time in his life. and i think thats why his ultimate rejection of normal societal behavior and embracing the family’s murder lifestyle comes so easy to him. its still an adjustment of course, but hes going along with it because the people doing it all were genuinely nice to him. they cared for him, and gave him the one thing society as a whole failed to: the consideration and mutual respect as another human being.

That episode literally blasted the last of my serotonin into smithereens but TBH??? WHO AM I MAD AT I should have seen this coming this whole volume has been such a headache. I cant be bothered to type up a coherent rwde essay on everything that bothered me this episode so im just gonna copy and paste my earlier yelling here instead ;A;

Team Rwby was god awful in episodes 11-12. They’re so self-righteous, entitled, hypocritical and cocky as a team and it doesnt help that they all suck as individual characters nowadays (except for weiss but even she lost best-girl points this episode also lmao blake and yang aren’t even INDIVIDUALS anymore they’re just bumbleby). It was annoying at first but now its just infuriating how rwby thinks theyre always right with their uwu energy and think they can do whatever tf they want with ZERO CONSEQUENCES.

Basically any time there is a problem in this show they have Ruby uwu at it and its solved lol.

They kept giving ironwood shit for taking on this incredible burden SO THAT NOBODY ELSE WOULD HAVE TO and rather than offer any real solution they just kept going “but mantle” like okay?? But remnant??? Like obvi letting mantle rot is bad but HE WAS OPEN TO ANY HELPFUL SUGGESTIONS CUZ HES OBVI AT HIS WITTS END AND DOESNT LIKE THE IDEA EITHER but yeah they just proceed to be the fattest hypocrites by hiding secrets of their own after being all “no more secrets uwu” and WHEN THEY GOT EXPOSED THEY JUST WENT “>:[“ (yangs self-righteous little glare here pissed me off so much oof) especially when ironwood was laying everything out in the open to them from the start. AND ESPECIALLY WHEN THE SECRET WAS FKIN “OH YEAH SALEM CANT DIE LOL” They watched ironwood make every decision he did in hopes of beating Salem while KNOWING she couldnt die??? So literallY WHERE do they get off on screeching at him with their yOu doNt hAvE to Suffer In ManTle YOu doNt kNow whAt iTs liKe bs. Wtf made ruby distrust iw at the start anyway? Because he had a bunch of ships out? They kept this CRUCIAL piece of information from him because he seemed stressed out?? Like what made ruby keep the secret from him. Someone tell me.

And the fact that rwby beat the ace-ops makes no goddamned sense. The power-scaling in this show is non-existant. We finally got to meet some pro huntsmen in this universe who aren’t teachers but are actually on the job, but because we gotta move out of the way for that 👌🏽✨ Power Of Friendship✨ and ✨rwby is always right✨ they somehow managed to beat experienced huntsmen with YEARS in the field who’ve actually graduated school??? FARM BOI OSCAR WHOS *JUST* LEARNING HOW TO FIGHT MANAGED TO LAND A PUNCH ON NEO FKIN POLITAN??? Didnt neo dance circles around yang??? Yang, who punches for a living and also beat mercury and adam??? I cant yall (and the fact that he didnt even bother to sneak up on her this boi literally screamed “no!!” as he ran down a hallway and neo didnt even have time to blink??? Pls)

Ruby’s “you were the best, until you trained us :3” -for maybe 2 days before my team went dancing ruby sis shut right tf up pls my god is this line just so. UNEARNED. Training in a room for a short while does not simply grant you the years of field experience the ace ops have and whAT IS UP WITH HER TRYING TO REASON WITH HARIETT AFTER SAYING THAT COCKY LINE AND FIGHTING HER??? WHAT and also like. The entire idea of “the ops lost cuz they weren’t good friends and were bad at teamwork uwu” is just so dumb. Ur telling me this group of high ranking hunstmen who’ve most likely been working together for at least a few years didnt have teamwork down??? Learning to work together is the most BASIC concept for a team to learn!! Its like the first thing a team has to perfect!! If the ace ops are supposed to be the best of atlas you dont think the ops would have gotten something as fundemental as teamwork down?? I dont buy it. And who gives a shit if they dont hang out after work or take selfies with eachother. Being friends doesnt necessarily mean theyre great at working together. If they succeed at relying on eachother to watch their backs, to keep each other alive (in the words of hariett herself) then Id think theyd know how to protect eachother i.e WORK TOGETHER.

And for all the ✨friendship✨ and ✨going through so much with someone✨ talk rwby like to do, the show barely displays these people acting like friends. We’re constantly TOLD how great of friends this group is, but the actual CONTENT we are shown leaves a lot to be desired. Tell me the last time ruby and blake teamed up in a fight. Or weiss and blake. Or yang and weiss. What teamwork?? Yang only interacts with blake now and weiss is only ever allowed to interact with ruby. Has blake ever said nora or ren’s name out loud? Have jaune and yang ever held a conversation between just them? Team rwby just spent a GOOD DEAL of time seperated from eachother, but when they reunite their teamwork is still somehow better than the ace ops?? Honestly its easier to believe that ruby is closer with team jnpr than she is her own team. If they showed the ops messing up during rwby vs ace ops fight due to lack of communication, then it still doesnt matter. My point is that they shouldnt have lacked teamwork in the first place.

Robyn was m e h this episode “JaMes ConTinUes to UnDeresTimAte Me” *proceeds to get knocked over in .3 seconds and is then KO for the rest of the episode* also great job for starting a fight and aiming to take clovers life in a moving airship with a terrorist on board when clover was acting PEACEFULLY and qrow was WILLING TO TALK IT OUT WITH IW and potentially work on a solution, but naw robyn is big mad and shall shoot.

Qrow made zero sense this episode too. I was with him right up until he chose TYRIAN OVER CLOVER??? THE PSYCOPATH WHO CANNOT BE REASONED WITH OVER THE RATIONAL DUDE YOU KNOW IS GOOD except clover wasnt acting rational in this fight at all and ill get to that AND IS THE ONLY FRIEND YOU HAVE WHOS NOT 19????? Qrow rly looked at tyrian- a man who is literally an enemy to all of remnant and went after ur neice- and said lets get rid of this punk together u and me bro. Like screw teaming with clover to bring down the dude you ACTUALLY have a grudge with whos also a serial killer and then trying to talk it out with clover whod be willing to do things peacefully why is this show like this

and AS FOR CLOVER. where were the braincells this episode. Qrow was trying to fight tyrian-the WAY bigger threat here, but clover??? kept knocking him away from tyrian and restraining him with his hook like??? YEAH LETS HELP OUT THE DEMON SCORPION CRACKHEAD HES CLEARLY NOT THE PRIORITY ATM nvm clover deserved to die there m8

His death scene was emotional and I feel bad for Qrow but u literally sealed his death when u ganged on him with tyrian so why are you even surprised. And on the subject of fairgame, im glad it didnt happen. Qrow was in no state for romance and I was glad he finally had a friend. He just spent the last volume thinking he wasted his life away helping oz, drowning in misery, drinking til he passed out on the street and so drunk he couldnt even be of any help during the apathy situation, when up til now hes been shown to fight just fine while drunk. I don’t see this as a “bury your gays trope” because clover was never confirmed to be gay and all their scenes added up to 40 seconds of platonic friendship. These two are grown ass men, if they had the hots for eachother then im pretty sure they could openly show it and not dance around it like theyre kids. I do feel bad for mlm viewers who were hoping for some rep with fairgame/lucky charms (cuz rt only cares if ur a cute marketable lesbian) but idc for the overly entitled fans who try to force their own headcanons on the writers and go feral when they dont get what they want. You dont just get to prance around claiming whats canon and what isnt. If rep is there then great, but if it isnt, then why not look somehwere else and let the author tell the story theyre trying to tell? Shipping fairgame cuz you think its cute is absolutely fine but not when u start getting ready to casterate crwby for not catering to you. Also, rwby sucks with lgbt+ rep anyway so what were yall expecting.

The only thing that was great this episode was the chorerography. It just sucks that the animation/choreo continues to improve while the writing doesnt. Another thing that really fell off this episode was the whole “we’re friends but we have to fight” drama. It doesnt work when its only ONE SIDE SHOWING ANY DISTRESS OVER IT. Only the ace ops (marrow, clover, the vine dude) seemed to show distress over having to fight rwby (it sucks that the only 1v1 weiss has won was because marrow was going EASY on her cuz he didnt wanna fight her fr) but rwby???? They didnt give any shits. They were so quick to turn against them and aim for their heads. They were SMILING as they ran at the ace ops, while they looked conflicted. If you oppose their UwU philosophy, you’re dead to them.

I really wanna enjoy RWBY but sometimes this show (and the fndm) really tests me. Its ironic how this episode came right after last episode, which I thought was the best chapter this volume. Anyway I rate this 10/10 cuz it gave me best character ironwood and best boi marrow and I would like to give them hugs for carrying this volume on their backs. (Also tyrian and penny and winter have been great too)

from a big family. elder sister called sinead. he also has a younger sister (aoife), a younger brother (colm), and a collie named lassie because his father lovs cliches (finn hates cliches but loves his dog). 

his father was a pub landlord and his mother worked at the market sellin fruit n veg when they met but got a job as a medical receptionist when she had kids cos it meant she cld be there with them in the day and work nights.

his parents met when they were p young and fiesty and rushed into marriage cos they were catholic n just wanted to have sex. his family were literally dirt-poor, but they had a lot of love i guess

his mum suggested he try sports to help w his restless energy but he was never any good at football so he took up boxing and tap dance instead. he took to tap dancing like a fish to fuckin water. as adhd n found this as a really good way to use his excess energy in a creative way

had a few run ins with the police in his early teens for spray painting and graffiti, but he straightened himself out n now actually considering becoming a detective inspector??? cops are pigs.

he had a youtube channel where he posted videos of him tapdancing and breakdancing as a kid, basically would be a tiktok boy nowadays, n had like... a small fanbase in his early teens. attended several open auditions unsuccessfully, until he was finally cast in billy eliot when he was fifteen.

during billy eliot he began dating an italian dancer called nina. they became dance partners soon after and toured across the republic with various different shows (inc riverdance lol the classic irish stereotype). their relationship was p toxic tbh, they were both very hot tempered people and just used to argue and fight all the time.

he went semi-pro at tap dancing, and nina couldn’t stand being second best so she moved back to italy with her family. ignored his texts, phone calls, etc, eventually he was driven to the point where he used his savings to buy a plane ticket, showed up at her house and she was like wtf?? freaked out and filed a restraining order accusing him of stalking.

he was fined for harassment and then returned home to derry, but after the incident with nina he quit dancing for good and finished his leaving cert before heading to university in the US to get as far away from nina and his past life as poss. and basically since he quit dancing to study forensics (death kink. finn cant get enough of that morgue. just walks around sayin beat u) he’s become a massive grump and jsut doesn’t see the good in people any more.

u’ll find finn in an old man bar drinking whiskey bc he is in fact an old man at heart or sat on his roof smoking a joint, drawing wolves and lions and skeletons and shit, playing call of duty or getting blazed or at the corner of the room in a house party ignoring everyone and scrolling through twitter. is a massive e-boy. always up-to-date on memes and internet slang. has reddit as an app on his phone

when he was thirteen he took up boxing, and as expected, his newfound ‘macho’ pastime conflicted with his dancing. the boxers called him ‘soft’; the dancers called him ‘inelegant’. he felt like two different people; having to choose between interests was like being handed a knife and asked to which half of himself he wished to cut away. he couldn’t afford professional training in dance, with most schools based in england and limited scholarships available. instead, he made the street his studio, racking up a small fanbase on youtube. when he was fifteen he made his debut in billy eliot at the olympia theatre in dublin. enter nina de souza, talented, beautiful and italian; ballet dancer, operatic singer, genius whiz kid, and spoiled brat. she was selfish, conceited, hell bent on getting her own way, and every director’s nightmare. finn fell for her like a house of cards. he’d always had a soft spot for girls who meant trouble. and so their hellish courtship began.

by the time they were seventeen, the two young swans had danced in every playhouse across the republic. they were known in theatres across the country for their tempestuous personalities, their raging arguments with one another, their tendency to drop out of shows altogether without any notice, yet the money kept rolling in and the audiences continued to grow. for three years, their families continued to put up with their hysterical fights followed by passionate reconciliations. he was too possessive, and she was too wild. their carcrash of a relationship finally came to a catastrophic halt when nina broke off the whole affair and returned to italy with her family. for months finn tried to contact her, yet his phone calls, texts, facebook messages were always ignored, until finally he was driven to drastic measures and used his savings to get a plane to her home town. when finn turned up uninvited at nina’s house she freaked out – and rightly so – she contacted her agent, accused him of stalking her, and had a restraining order placed against him. finn was arrested, held in a station overnight, and charged with harassment before he was allowed to return to dublin.

after the incident with nina, finn lost the fight in his eyes. he became far more hostile, far less likely to retaliate with his own fists, and picked fights not for the thrill of feeling his own fists pummel another into a wall, but for the sensation of his own brittle bones cracking. he dropped his tap shoes in a dumpster, stopped talking to his friends, followed his father’s advice and went back to school to complete his leaving certificate. a few short months later, and finn was packing his bags, saying his bittersweet goodbyes, and travelling half-way across the globe to be as far away as possible from his past self, his mess of a life, and most of all nina. it seemed somehow ironic that the boy who had been cautioned by the garda so much during his youth for spray painting, busking without a liscence, and raucous parties would become the grumpy, aloof overseas student studying a degree in criminology; that his once reckless spirit could be crushed so easily. 

of all things that finn could be called, straightforward would never be one of them. ever since his first days in atticus, the boy was pegged as hostile, hot-headed, cynical, rude. he seemed to spend more time in his thoughts than engaging in conversation. like a ticking time-bomb, finn’s anger was of the calm kind, liable to explode without a moment’s noticed. his unpredictable personality make him something of an enigma to those who aren’t amiable with the lad, though hostile as he may appear, he harvests a good heart. loyalty lies at the centre of his affections, and whilst his friends are few in number, he makes a lifelong partner. somewhere within finn, there’s still some fight left, but mostly he has recognised that his hedonistic lifestyle did little to leave him fulfilled – mostly, it just emptied him out – and over his three years at university has resigned himself to a nihilistic predicament.

I am curious since i am very on fence about this game, but what do you think caused the general antipathy? Switch accessibility problems? bad marketing campaign that basically ignored the game for months and then seemed to focus more on the western side? Spoiler embargo not allowing people to get information to get invested? For all Fates faults, one cutscene was enough to make me hooked and looking foward the game, while i have been watching a playthrough of 3h and i cant muster much

Yeah, Fates grabbed me by the hair from square one. The Gunther reveal made me import a Japanese 3DS so I could play the game because it was so wild and I still don’t regret that. Fun as hell, great music, characters I came to love, wild ride, actual kanji practice. Was great.

See, it’s interesting that you’re the second person I’ve seen say that they focused more on Western marketing, which is totally the opposite of what I saw. It was fans translating the character profiles on Twitter, no official support. Even in the days after launch, the sections on Deer and Lions were “coming soon” in English. The greatest extent of English advertising I’ve seen is, like, a poll on what house you’re picking from the official Twitter. And maybe the leak if my crazy tinfoil conspiracy theory is right. I can’t speak as to how much advertising the Japanese version got because I wasn’t following that, but it was definitely more than English. English marketing was a joke.

As for where the Japanese antipathy comes from…

All my general bitchiness aside, I do think the game commits a major sin in holding back the timeskip designs until the final, what, third of the game? There’s no universe in which that’s a good idea. You should lead with the designs that are your strongest. You should lead with the designs you most want to be iconic. Look at Steam cheevo statistics; so many people start playing games and then drop them far before the halfway point. IIRC even the artbook only gives school phase designs for everyone but the lords? No matter how you slice it, it’s a Bad Fucking Move to put your best looks and most salient characterization way at the end of the game. This isn’t to say you can’t have twists–but you probably shouldn’t have major twists with someone you’re trying to sell as a main character more than halfway through the game. Edelgard doesn’t build up to making a horrible decision, she decided to fucking murder her classmates before you even get there. You just don’t find out about it til halfway(+?) through the game. That’s not a great structure decision when you take into account how people actually play games.

Structure in general. I’ve seen a few people who’ve completed more than one run wondering if the timeskip was a mistake. What does it do, ultimately? The game takes a sharp left turn, but what have you gained in terms of actually playing it as a game? The characters hardly acknowledge that five years have passed in supports. It’s an excuse for new designs–but ones you hardly see, see above. It’s almost like the timeskip is there just to age the characters by five years so Americans don’t feel weird about fucking students.

Related to the above. If the lion’s share of your game is the school phase…and the school phase is gonna be what most players experience, being that it’s the beginning of the game…why the hell would you add a different phase that’s such a big mood/gameplay shift for a significant part of the game? People who came here for school shenanigans are going to be put off and depressed by the war phase and people who came here for the war phase will find the school phase interminably tedious.

Needing to play all 4 routes to fully grasp the story (a lot of fucking hours) also isn’t a plus. People playing one route–which are the most common type of people, see above–often seem like they’re dissatisfied with the plot cutting off and leaving dangling ends. I wouldn’t say this is a horrible thing in a vacuum–replayability is nice in these days of ‘games as a service’–but “you won’t understand what’s going on until you’ve played the same map at least three times!” is just a shitty situation to put the player in. And it’s surely gonna put off reviewers.

Switch accessibility is a medium factor. It’s definitely true that more people have 3DSes than Switches (it would have been really clever of Nintendo if they’d worked to release the Switch Lite and 3H concurrently, ah well), but I also don’t consider it a huge factor. Something to consider, not a critical issue.

This is undoubtedly going to be the subject of conspiracy theory shitposting to the point where I’m wary of saying it, but I really feel like functions that are standard in JRPGs got chopped back solely to appeal to the Western audience. And…naturally the Japanese audience is less interested in that, because it’s a whole bunch of extra busywork solely so Americans can ‘feel better’ about pressing buttons on a controller. I fully expect the Western sales numbers for 3H to wreck face, but I have a feeling the Japanese numbers will be lukewarm. Most likely comparable to Echoes, where it sells through most of its stock but didn’t have a huge stock in the first place so all that really says is that it isn’t a loss.

Relatedly–some of the things western fans are praising as ‘huge improvements’ were never an issue to Japanese fans. Jfen don’t nickname canons by continent, they do so by game title. 3H already has the nickname of Kazahana. That’s it and that’s all it needs. Jfen were not wildly elated and praising the game out the door when they saw the continent was named ‘Fodlan’. It’s not that Jfen didn’t criticize Fates’s storytelling–of course they did–but they didn’t criticize the same things Americans did. So to a lot of Jfen, 3H is actually not a huge improvement in the areas they were most worried about.

At least as far as America goes–spoiler embargo doesn’t help, though again it’s hard to say that it was a massive issue. There’s FE fans I’ve talked to recently still going ‘oh, what? There’s a timeskip? I passed on it because it looked like dull Personashit’ [paraphrased]. It’s like it made the opposite mistake Fates’s marketing did; Fates’s marketing promised too much, 3H’s promised too little.

Again, limited to America–a lot of casual players honestly found the child units pretty fun and were genuinely disappointed to see them go. Their plot relevance didn’t matter; they were fun little living homages to your ships and your way of creating custom units in the game by manipulating circumstances. They were just this silly little thing people enjoyed. Fun things are fun. These people weren’t really looking to replace the custom unit part of their enjoyment with spending a literal hour in menus per chapter tutoring every individual motherfucker in dicksucking and underwater basket-weaving. They liked having a hand in the creation of a semi-custom unit without having to dive into the nitty-gritty of stat maxing and efficiency; so, this audience isn’t terribly interested in 3H’s form of customization because they’re not interested in the statistical nitty-gritty.

I can’t tell you whether or not to buy the game. I can tell you that I know a lot of people having a lot of fun playing the game. I can also tell you that the game really hasn’t scalped me like Fates did. Maybe you’re like me, maybe you’re not. It’s up to you, my man. You’re the one who knows what your finances are.

Hey, guess what, I’ve found another screen rant I want to react to! I wasn’t planning to do any more but, reading through this article, I just have SO many problems with it... So Let’s do another, agree or disagree with a Screenrant article made by someone with no bias at all. (Sarcasm for the last part by the way.) So let’s see:

Agreed with this point. People act like, if the characters weren’t on screen then they disappeared or something. Maybe they were just living their own lives?

... I don’t even understand this article. Apparently this is 20 things people get wrong and this point is that the timeline can make sense, but then OP goes on to say “However, the more characters were introduced and the more worlds the characters ventured into, it became clearer and clearer that time didn't work the same way everywhere... However, in a world of fairytales, expecting anything more than that is simply asking too much. What does it matter, exactly, when some of these events took place as long as we know that they were a long time ago in a universe not at all like our own?”

Like, so that means this isn’t something people get wrong - the timeline DOESN’T make sense - so what the hell is it doing in this article? You can’t claim you’ve solved it just because you shrug and go “yeah but it’s magic so what do you expect?”

I mean the text directly conflicts the title/bullet point. Luckily I can still safely say I disagree, both with the title and the text because the timeline became f*cked, and just making an embarrassed shrugging face doesn’t change that.

I can’t even say disagree because this is just plain wrong! I don’t quite understand this writer. I can’t tell what they’re deal is, like did they just give a poor title to their article?

Season 1 - The Original Curse Season 2 - Belle and Sneezy lost their memories. Season 3 - Everyone lost a year. Season 5 - Camelot Season 6 - Emma lost her memories Season 7 - Another Curse.

Notice how I left out 4? Well this is where I’m getting confused because this is what OP had to say about Season 4: “While season four dabbled with alternate universes, memories were never wiped or reset in the way they were in every other season.”

... But their memories WERE wiped! They were essentially in a curse because their memories WERE wiped and they WERE given new identities just like the original curse. So yes, memory wipes did in fact happen every single season!

So I can’t agree or disagree because maybe some people do call Ruby a lesbian, but most everyone I talk to calls her bi... So I’ma just skip this one.

Sorry, dear writer, but let me just fill you in. Aiding and abetting a fellow criminal IS A CRIME! Emma did wrong and she was punished for it. I don’t necessarily agree with what Neal did but he is not responsible for where Emma ended up.

“... Neal Cassidy became more and more like the selfish, frequently malicious parents who raised him.” ... Again, WHEN?! Like seriously, selfish maybe but malicious?!

“In no world would he have been the right man for Emma or a good father to Henry because he could never accept accountability for any of his many wrongdoings.” Except, you know, Neal knew Henry all of five minutes and was already dedicated to being a great dad to him and literally was WAY better at being a father to Henry than Hook ever was to the kid. And I added the Hook part because my God, the writer of this article couldn’t be more obvious a CS shipper if they had every sentence end with swans and pirate flags.

It’s amazing how, even dead, they’re still threatened by Neal’s character.

Maybe this was true in S6, but by S7 they had clearly retconned it, making the Wish Realm a very real place. Otherwise there’s a ton of plot holes and you’ve got to be a real idiot to say you’d rather accept plot holes than that the Wish Realm might actually be real.

(Also, just saying, another terrible title because what happened to Emma and Regina when they were in the Wish Realm very much DID happen. So again, really poor titles for this article that clearly doesn’t know what it’s point is.)

“Regina, as we know, went back and forth to points outside of Maine many times during the preceding 28 years.” It was actually explained, by Regina herself to Hook in Season 2, that because she (and he) had no cursed memories, crossing the town line would not affect them.

“Greg and Tamara are also able to cross the town lines, with Greg even remembering the tiny town for years and years after a traumatic encounter within it during his childhood.” Again. The town line affects people who ARE CURSED! This is made very clear! Henry can also cross the town line when he went to get Emma.

The title, once again, is misleading. People are able to leave - so long as they don’t CROSS THE TOWN LINE. That’s the part CURSED people are not able to do.

Memories as Photographs Etched Upon the Walls of the Soul

It’s the experience.

My mind has always loved the wide-open road. The journey. I have traveled many, many miles. In all actuality ‘many’ is a mild understatement; and for no reason at all at times. Just because I had wheels, the road was there and I had money to burn, Literally. Times have changed a great deal, not just with the price of gas rising but now I am also a single mom of an exceptional child. Now, each trip and road I travel has to be burned with intention and very explicit directions from my 6-year-old traveling companion. He is the one that now holds the map. Intention is a big word for a 6 year old; it’s a big word for any age depending on one’s experience in life. The definition of intention also comes appropriately so with the season. As well as the reason for this particular road trip.

 Intention: an aim, a plan. Also defined in medicine as the healing process of a wound.

 How fitting then, that the open road heals my soul with the intention of following tradition in bringing my son to his grandmas house (my mother) for a feast and togetherness. With pennies from heaven, in the pursuit of tradition and good tidings we hit the road for a 300-mile trek to grandmas house. We travel through what I call Gods country. Central North Carolina, from the piedmont region and backcountry roads to the inner /outer Banks coastal region. The universe plays all the right songs on the radio station and my companion is content looking out to the countryside.

           What do we see… all the great things in life that are free. The citrine, amber, emrald and ruby dotted landscapes on back country roads. As the sun glistens and draws long shadows on the road we now call home. The cotton fields ripe, which look like fields of snow, out of place, out of climate, but ready for harvest. Cows, horses, ramshackle houses, broke down dreams, and mansions to which probably belong to one lonesome soul who just cant seem to have enough and hasn’t realized money can’t buy everything, which is why I prefer to burn my cash on fuel and experience, tradition. After all there are pies to bake, stuffing to make, and giblets for gravy to dig for.

“Are we there yet?” my son echoes from the passenger seat of the beat up, rusted red pick up truck, lent to us to make the trip.

Mind you, he asked the same question about 200 times in the first 3 miles out of town. He is excited to see his grandma. I remember those times in my life, the memories of my grandfather’s dinner table and thanksgivings that were the size of a small wedding. When family was large. I try to embrace my son’s excitement as my own excitement is lit in photographs and times of yore. Which is getting me back to the title of this. Do not live behind a lens or a screen. The time we have here is short, embrace each other, listen and I mean really listen, Listen to your grandma’s laughter, someday you will wish she was still sitting at your table, drinking scotch on the rocks, smoking her cigarettes while being hooked to an oxygen tank.

In the mean time, I use her crystal and dishes, I dress the table, and I embrace my own mother in companionship with my son. It’s a tiny number of 3, but we exist, we make it happen, with intention and in honor of those no longer with us. In honor of the next generation. What is your intention this holiday season?

Open letter to my heart.

I can’t ever really be sure of my own thoughts anymore. As a virgo whom prides himself on being in control of every situation I found myself in the first situation i couldnt out smart. December of 2016 I was introduced to the first woman I’ve ever truly loved, loved more than i loved myself, loved more than i loved living. Jade was literally everything i knew i wanted, a strong, stubborn, passionate, smart, cute, funny, crazy, ball of energy and i fell head over heels in love with her the first time we smoked and she sat there awkwardly talking to me about how she still liked fetty wap and she loved that stupid amine song. At a time in my life fresh out of jail starting to rebuild my life i wasnt looking for love but fuck if it didnt slap me in the mouth. And despite knowing she was only 18 i was enamoured by her and couldnt figure out why, it couldve been how easily we bonded, how we were so alike in weird ways. Before i knew it months had gone by and we had our first bump that led to the first breakup. Looking back now i was crushed cuz i couldnt figured out why i couldnt shake this feeling. She moved on and i had begun too but before i knew it she was back in life standing in the alley behind my job crying to me and just like that i was hooked again. I wanted to stand strong and not cave but in the face of her green eyes pouring tears i was weak. I wanted to fix it to fix her pain to never let her get back to that place ever again. I knew i shouldve let her go but i also didnt want it to end, she had become my addiction and escape from the bullshit of my own life. Her touch was a combination of my favorite highs all colliding and i was ready to OD. the thing about women like her is you have to accept your time and take it for what it is, despite all of the negative shit from her side and my own to this day i still love her with all my heart and i didnt know how to admit that without feeling dumb, but dumb or not she’s my first love, my happiness, my pain, heaven and hell all together to the point of i was losing touch with my reality and coping with drugs. I lost the essence of who i was i saw why she fell out of love with me i wasnt me i wasnt happy neither was she, she tried and i knew that but it was too much. The universe had to intervene it was time for us to learn our lessons. I never regret mistakes because there’s always a lesson to be learned. I wish things were different but it isnt i wish everything couldve transpired differently but thats life. Shit aint black or white its gray af. Sometimes i wonder if we’ll reconnect or if were meant to never speak again, ive done a pretty good job at making the latter happen unforunately lol. I wish i could turn love off and just return it back to how we were at first but i cant. Im writing this letter not to apologize, not to get her back, not to rationalize my actions, but to lay my thoughts out and be transparent. In a stretch of Steinway Street known as Little Egypt you can find Middle Eastern dining and shopping, and better yet, the highest concentration of hookah bars this side of the Atlantic.

(Oh, right, Steinway Street. Yeah, all of their world class pianos for the Western Hemisphere are made in Astoria, so we also have that. No big deal.)

Its hit or miss as to whether or not you find yourself in a more traditional, cultural club that doesnt serve alcohol, or one of the contemporary spots that feature rebirthed, kitschy 80s cocktail classics, but figuring it out is part of the fun. If youd like your puff with some of the stronger stuff try Fayrooz or Layaly. For the tea and smoothie approach try Rotana or Jasmin.

You dont need to traipse up and down 5th Avenue with the rest of humanity during your trip to New York in order to get your visual arts fix. Astoria also has you covered in that department.

The Museum of the Moving Image is a tribute to the film and television industry, something that Astoria has just a little claim to, being the location of Kaufman Astoria Studios, NYCs only production studio with a backlot, and the filming location for none other than Sesame Street. (Who are the people in YOUR neighborhood?)

The Noguchi Museum is a building designed by the artist himself to showcase his work, and the result is a serene, austere space that takes the traveler out of the New York bustle for a moment to immerse her or him in sculpture and light, and a peaceful, courtyard garden. For some art out of doors of a more peculiar persuasion, you can go from your Noguchi visit right across the street for a riverside stroll in the quirky Socrates Sculpture Park.

Proof positive that the universal divine favors Queens over Brooklyn: Astoria Bier and Cheese. Full stop. No but really, this combination bar, cheesemonger, and bottle shop is as close to perfect an eating and drinking establishment as I have ever found, with its suds and curds-forward menu, and airy market vibe.

In addition to the aforementioned breweries Singlecut and LIC Beer Project, no beer tour of Astoria would be complete without a visit to Bohemian Hall and Beer Garden, a Czech cultural club complete with the requisite sausages and liter draughts. Grabbing a table in its expansive, tree-lined backyard will have you wondering whether youve somehow entered a portal to the Bohemian countryside, but the friendly rattle of the subway just a few blocks away will remind you that youre still in New York City.

And not only that, but in a culture where all kinds of single concept stores have gotten bulldozed by big box establishments, Astoria has birthed not only Hi-Fi Records, but Gamestoriafor gamers, Astoria Bookshop for literary types, and Lockwood Paper forother literary types. Theres apparently even enough business to support Uke Hut: a damn ukulele store. I mean, how cool is that?

Not to mention the European-style food shopping where meats, seafood, baked goods, and cheeses all have their expert, specialty purveyors, for those who choose their New York City AirBnbs on the basis of the kitchen.

I have long held the belief that Astoria is the coolest precisely because it isnt trying to be cool. (See, ukelele store, above.) On the contrary, one of its peculiar delights is noticing the prevalence of puns and dad jokes in businesses whose mission seems to advancing the antithesis of cool. Maybe its just me, because I live here and I notice these, but I salute them for their unapologetic wordplay: Off The Hook, The Teapsy, Enthaice, and Something Catchy. With you in our corner, Astoria will never become too cool for school, thereby earning the right to stay cool forever.

VR vs. Some Very Stern Words

It’s odd what some people get bent out of shape about. Spending your career (I think I can call it that at this point) in an online role means you see plenty of it – and if you’re involved in social media you’re going to see a heck of a lot of it.  You’re also going to get a lot of it too. Over the last decade or so I sort of fell into social media as it rose to be a marketing tool and I’ve had all sorts slung at me down the years. Threats, abuse, slightly too interested in my personal life girls (and guys), people ringing up the office to ask the legal team personal questions about me. The works. So, if you’re gonna call me an idiot just know that, well, I’ve had worse. In fact, I’ve said worse about me myself, so, there you go.

Recently there was an interesting two and eight in the comments about a post where a virtual reality (VR) videogame was announced and someone was very angry it was listed on the ‘PSVR feed’ when it was not a PlayStation VR title. The reason why it was tagged as PlayStation VR was because the developers expressly said they had plans to bring the title to Sony’s headset. News about PSVR? That’ll be tagged PSVR then. Except, they insisted, that was news “not relevant” to PlayStation VR at all. Any title could come to PlayStation VR, so we shouldn’t tag that. It was an interesting argument, one I couldn’t understand for the life of me. The developers expressly mentioned Sony’s headset but it isn’t news about it? Huh?

In the end I apparently failed to explain to their satisfaction that, well, 1 = 1 and we’ll obviously tag a story with whatever it is about. Instead I was a jackass who didn’t know what they were talking about and I should take my “condescending attitude” and “shove it up your Mod ass”. Rather un-phased by the whole thing I just responded that “my ass is glorious and majestic. Thank you for noticing.”

And it is. Very.

All of this got me to thinking about another set of comments we once got on VRFocus. Which had me heading over to YouTube to ‘relive’ what is quite possibly the most epic and, frankly, unhinged rant a channel I’ve had a hand in has ever received.

Now, YouTube is as YouTube does at this point – am I right? Being a channel owner on YouTube is like spinning the wheel on Wheel of Fortune. Who knows, you may have a big hit. At the same time the way YouTube is setup and ever changing its own rules you know there’s the chance all your had work will ultimately be for naught and your channel lost to the ages. It’s felt for a while that YouTube’s ‘Wheel of Fortune’ has been adding more and more ‘bankrupt’ sections as the years roll on. It has also been on a bit of a redesign kick in recent months and a Beta of YouTube Studio is waiting in the wings to fundamentally change the back-end experience for YouTube channels. To that end I got thinking about whether or not the aforementioned rant was still there as I’d been ‘saving it’ for a special occasion.  In that way Social Media Managers always save messages that prove points or are so outrageous as to be something to discuss at later events, panels or what have you.

This rant was particularly special in that it came, of all things, at the expense of the poor Samsung Gear VR. It’s terrible crime? It launched.

Back on November 23rd 2015 we put up the Gear VR Launch trailer aka “It’s Not A Phone, It’s A Galaxy” as Samsung celebrated the launch of their smartphone-based head mounted display (HMD) and showed both it, and some of the Gear VR experiences that you could enjoy at the time, off.

One man though was very, very angry about this and his name was Chua Neng Lis. I know very little about him. He used to work in a plastics factory in or near Minnesota. He also got very upset about North Korea, America and South Korea once on a CNN video, so I imagine wherever he is now he’s been pretty miffed about the last few months. Lis was not pleased about the situation with the Gear VR at all – especially as he seemed to think he’d come up with the idea in the first place.

I should point out that I’ll be posting the message text as is without changing any punctuation, spelling or presentation.

“thats still not virtual reality. your. just. mocking. and. manipalteing. my. ideas.

There is of course something to be said about corporations and capitalism and the ability of the rich and poor to earn a fair living, and on reading the first time I honestly thought up until this point that this is what Lis was trying to convey.

Oh. Okay it wasn’t that at all.

That was just the first of nine messages left on the video by Lis which proceed to get more and more bizarre.

“HOE. WAS TELEPATHY. STEALING MY IDEAS FROM TELEPATHY AND TELEPATHY CHANNEL. OH RIGHT. I CAN DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. BUT WAITE. TO KILL YOU AFTER IM DEAD.

AND NOW YOUR TRYING TO STOP THAT. LOL. NOW ASK YOUR GHOSTS THOUGHTS STEALING FROM. YOU. IS IT EASY OR HARD TO KILL ME AFTER IM DEAD. OR ALIVE.”

Whose ghosts? Ours? Samsung’s? I should point out that no he’s not referring to ghosts as in spooks/spies, but actual ghosts. It seems Lis has a BIG thing about ghosts. Also vampires. According to him America is full of cults and vampires. I blame Buffy. She’s slacking off.

“AND THATS STILL NOT VIRTUAL REALITY. YOUR USEING THAT DEVICE TO STEAL MORE IDEAS. FROM PEOPLES BRAINS AND HEADS. EVEN USEING AND STEALING OLD DATA AND INFORMATION. YOU ALL TOOK PART HACKED. AND STOLED. INTO YOUR OWN MINDS BRAINS AND DATA. TO ACT OUT LIKE ITS YOURS. WHEN YOU KNOW IN YOUR BRAIN AND MIND. ITS NOT YOURS. EVEN IF YOU WOULD. “LIKE”. TO THINK SO.

OH YEAH. ASK YOUR GOVERNMENT. “GHOSTS”.

THEY KNOW I CAN KILL YOU. USEING THAT DEVICE.

NOW HOW ABOUT THAT ARE YOU GOING TO STEAL. AND UPLOAD WHAT I JUST SAY AND SAID. AND MY BRAIN. UP TO THAT DEVICE ALSO TO. CONTROL AND KILL THOSE PEOPLE AND MINDS.”

He can kill ghosts with VR? Literal ghosts working for or with the Government?

“yeah i can kill you with that device of yours. AND IM NOT JOKEING.”

Well, that clears that up at least.

So if you’re keeping track on this and I can’t blame you if you’re not. Either we, Samsung or the American Government (I assume) are in league with the undead who are stealing minds potentially via VR which isn’t VR and he invented it.

I won’t go into the next bit too much because he just descends into ranting about whoever his targets are at this point being gay and getting their comeuppance (I guess?) by being violated by the supernatural. Needless to say, it all comes to a universe redefining climax with the inadvertently hilarious phrase-

And to prove I’m not making this all up…

Yes, these did get reported by the way and I’m very much hoping someone got to speak to them.

But when you get upset with me or us online just bear this in mind: I’m really not that phased, and that’s because honestly you are not in the same league as someone like this guy. Before I initiate my post, I'd just like to say that my issue at hand is quite complicated. Please, just bare with me here.I am a 20 year old male University student and I am a nice guy. Yes, I am the guy who's emotional, cares about developing a long term relationship than a one night stand, wants to be gentleman etc. I am the type of guy who is portrayed as a laughing stock all over the internet. The only exception is I am not entitled. I used to despise girls for hooking up with bad boys and not taking a guy like me seriously. In the past few years, I've been pondering about the subject million of times in my head and I don't see it as an immature act on female part. Hey, I get it, we all want to spend our entire lives around people who are badass and who can entertain us at all times. We, human beings, even unconsciously enjoy occasional suffering and pain without ever realizing it; otherwise, so many women would have already left their abusive boyfriends or husbands and start their life from scratch. Why am I telling you all of this? Because thats kind of the root of my problem here.For the past year, I've been taking a whole year course in English. The lecture lasts 3 hours once a week. In the past couple of months, I have noticed a girl starring and smiling at me, and exchanging whispers with her female friend every other time my eyes cross hers. She's absolutely gorgeous. From the outside prespective, she looks like the girl of my dreams. How do I know she's starring at me? Because there's not a single guy sitting beside me or at least not where her eyes are pointing at. How did I notice? My class is seated in semi circle. I am sitted right across her. My professor usually walks around her area and presents the lecture. Also like a normal person I look at the students who respond to questions."So whats the problem? It seems like she might be into you. You don't have the balls to ask her out or whats going on?"I won't lie, I dont have the guts to approach beautiful looking girls but I have another major problem and thats : I don't think I deserve her.
