#who think that it’s still desmond wanting ‘to be altaïr’

I’ve recently noticed (as in I only noticed recently, not it only happened recently) a distinct lack of it in your content so I thought I’d ask: opinion on EziDesAltCon? (I never know which order it’s supposed to be) cause to me it just seems like the obvious conclusion.
I honestly don’t know if there’s an ‘official’ shipping name for it. I usually go for AltDesEziCon, in the order of their games XD
I like it. Honestly, I’m all in for them being in a polycule or if this is primarily a Desmond harem XD
I cannot remember if I have ever answered something like this but there was this Desmond harem in a Royal ‘Family’ AU idea last year so I’ll focus on a poly kind of situation for this one.
Have some unorganized notes!
They all fall in love with Desmond first and it starts of as them being rivals for Desmond’s affection.
Altaïr and Ezio are highly competitive and tries to one man each other. Ratonhnhaké:ton is more of a chill dude but turns out to just be as competitive. He’s just more sly about it. There have been many Altaïr versus Ezio competitions that ended with Ratonhnhaké:ton’s stealth wins and it was all planned.
Desmond loves them all and realize that Altaïr and Ezio’s competitiveness is kinda like their foreplay.
He gets the idea of making them fall in love with one another so they can all be together (and Desmond doesn’t have to make a choice)
Shaun thought he was mad, Rebecca was more on the side of “It’s crazy enough to work”, Clay is there to watch the chaos unfold.
The Auditore family has an ongoing joke of disowning Ezio and adopting the others if he breaks up with any or all of them (not that it would happen)
Everyone but Ratonhnhaké:ton call Haytham ‘father-in-law’ to fuck with him. One time, Ezio calls him ‘father-in-law’ during a party with a lot of rich people and that’s how people learn that Haytham’s ‘unknown’ son is dating 3 dudes all at the same time.
They all call William Miles ‘Bill’ though.
This is full on modern day now apparently so Desmond’s parents are divorced and his mom married Minerva. Ezio and Ratonhnhaké:ton call Minerva stepmother-in-law while Desmond and Altaïr call her ‘Minerva’. Minerva just rolls with it and calls Desmond’s beaus “my stepson’s harem.” (this is honestly inspired by what @thedragonqueen1998 and I talked about in the comments of EOA XD)
They all live in a big apartment and have the biggest bed their friends have ever seen. They have a schedule on who does what chore each week. Altaïr is rarely given kitchen duties because he will season the ingredients and put it all in the oven. It’s not bad but Ezio keeps teasing him about his lack of variety. Ezio is forbidden to do groceries unsupervised because one time he bought more than they needed because things were ‘on sale’.
Altaïr’s grandfather doesn’t mind the number of lovers he has or that they’re men. He’s still annoying Altaïr to give him great grandchildren before he dies though.
Kids are not off the table but they want to spend time with each other first. (They all agree the oldest must be Desmond’s XD)
Malik is worried that Kadar would think that he could be invited into the poly. Kadar is honestly just living vicariously through Desmond at this point. He and Rebecca are the only two people Desmond confesses all the kinky shit they get into.
Leonardo knows the kinky shit they get into courtesy of Ezio.
Ratonhnhaké:ton doesn’t tell anyone the kinky shit they get into but Rebecca sometimes ask him for clarification because she knows he won’t embellish anything. (“Even the skydiving thing?” “Altaïr had to research a lot about that one”)
They sometimes go on doubledates and switch partners in different points of the day.
They have movie night every Sunday and the one who picks the movie is Desmond → Altaïr → Ezio → Ratonhnhaké:ton. Sometimes, movie night is in the comforts of their home, other times it’s in the movie theatres.
They schedule their offs so all of them can be together. Ezio is the one who mostly suggests they go somewhere which the others don’t mind.
Desmond always sleep in the middle of the bed, surrounded by the men he loves.

In your heavy bleeding au, does Desmond remember his bleeds or does he just black out during the whole process? Also, does he have certain triggers?
Love all your au stuff btw owo
Im glad my au is infecting everyones brain muhahaha
to answer, when I draw Desmond with yellow eyes and fainting like a damsel I think in my head its one fo 2 things:
1) he is having such a heavy bleed(hehe pun) his body shuts down and all he can do is to live thru the bleed basically, he would not be able to tell its a bleed even if someone told him it was one(they cant tho since he is stuck in the bleed in his head) so he just has to ride it out. It probobly disorients him quiet a bit once he gets out of it for hrs maybe in some cases days.
2) he is having visions from apple and its such heavy knowledge his human brain kinda goes overheat mode.
In the end you can determine yourself (since its an au nothing is set in stone lol) if he remembers or not but for myself:
I think on 1)
he doesnt remember all details, after he is out of the episode he probobly remembers who the bleed was about and some context but not all, but some stuff lingers for few hours sometimes days as mentioned. maybe he finds hard to switch to the language he uses the most or his emotions carry over, like if it was about altair right after he lost his ranks, he feels some petty anger towards Malik he cannot explain but he can figure out it was cocky-altair memories probobly due to context clues. They are probobly like dreams(or nightmares) in a sense where the more he tries to remember the more he forgets about details…
for 2)
He is just not that smart enough (sorry Des ur no Altaïr…)to explain what the apple showed him but he probobly does remember in a sense; if its things like a remedy, a basic invention or instructions that he can learn from a yt video normally he can muscle memory to make em. its more like “how tf did u do that” “uhhh i have no idea” withing a limit lol so he cannot invent phones bc he probobly cant even make a phone in modern day
——————
for his other heavy bleeds where he is not passed out with eyes all gold I think some of the same rules as 1) apply where he doesnt know he is in a bleed, especially if he is bleeding as someone bc at that moment he thinks he is that person, but someone could snap him out of it if they tried (usually if he is bleeding ezio and actual ezio shows up he can make Des snap out of it but its not foolproof) and afterwards he probobly remembers most of it (to his horror) bc he did actively and physically live thru it. Like w the fic where he thinks there are guards after him but its a bleed, after he learns it is he still remembers them and sees them
but again I think the fun part is u can kinda make Des suffer in anyway you want (again…sorry Des…)so no rules are set in stone, so if you dont want him to remember anything after bleeds you are free to do so and ill probobly break these guides aswell lol
————-
for triggers hmm i think anything you want could be a trigger lol but it doesnt have to be “triggered” to happen. I think like that other fic when he first time-travels and lands in Italy or Levant he would most likely have a bleed where he thinks he is someone else sooner or later bc the enviroment shocks him and confuses him (as time travel does) so something that “shocks” him can send him into an episode but he could also be totally fine in another scenerio
in my hc w the fainting ones, they are similar to seizures w how they come and go (I do not get seizures so my research is very limited) so sometimes he can guess it will happen few seconds to min before but he cannot stop them and sometimes it just gets him by suprise, for the ones where he doesnt faint he again has no idea when it will happen and most likely cannot tell it will, those ones are probobly more affected by “triggers” but they dont have to be as I said above
ty for askingg sorry to give an essay as response lol

So… yandere!Altaïr x Desmond… where Altaïr has the social grace of a cat when it comes to romantic gestures and believes that killing people he thinks are annoying Desmond or a threat to his safety is a good sign of his affection. Since he can’t just give Desmond a feather stained in blood (that would be ‘tacky’), he gives him gifts that once belonged to his targets. (1/2)
(2/2) Desmond knows they’re from people he killed but mistakes them as actual sanctioned kills from the Brotherhood because everyone Altaïr kills are bad people anyway. Desmond knows Altaïr is giving him gifts that came from his targets but he just assumes it’s Altaïr’s way of giving gifts since Masyaf doesn’t give him extra money, only enough for travel expenses. Until Altaïr presents him a very familiar dagger. Al Mualim’s favored dagger.
So… Let’s start it off with the premise that Altaїr begins his courtship without informing Desmond of it
And that Desmond is not within the Brotherhood, or, indeed, had any direct contact with them
In the moment between touching the Eye and awaking, the only thing that Desmond felt was heat. Searing, piercing, all-encompassing heat that set every single nerve in his body ablaze. It left little space for anything but feeling it crawl through his body. He didn’t think he even had a chance to scream. But…
It softened, eventually. Concentrated on one side. Slid across his arm and clothing like a warm, unwanted blanket. A blanket he was… Laying on?
It took a few moments for Desmond to realize he was no longer in the Temple. He wasn’t even standing
And the ground beneath his body scorched
It takes a while for Desmond to reach a city, any city, and he is in no hurry to move on. So… He starts settling in. Find himself a place to stay. Makes nice with the locals. Avoids the guards. Rests.
Takes odd jobs here and there, from helping to carry things to a one-off where he penned a letter for someone and got paid for it
It takes him weeks before he even realizes the city he is in is Damascus, and even that comes because he overhears a merchant complaining about something or other being too expensive there. That makes Desmond realize just where he is, if not when. The when comes when Desmond goes out to do some recon on his own and almost manages to run into an Informant
(But that, is another story entirely… Suffice to say, the informant shook his tail – but left Desmond be the one to have to deal with them)
That… Complicates things, for Desmond. Because now that he no longer has the bliss of ignorance on his side, he has to be careful. Careful to avoid not just the guards and Templars, but to stay boring enough to remain off Brotherhood’s radar. He is just settling in, and he doesn’t even know if he wants to do more than keep himself in shape and run his slowly flourishing scribe business.
In the end, it was his decision to stay anonymous that did him in
Desmond developed a reputation for being a reliable, discreet scribe – and at some point, he ended up penning a letter for someone who would end up passing it on to the local Bureau. Where it would raise questions – because the hand it is written in mirrors Altaїr’s hand. What luck, then, that the man is in town – and can be sent to investigate the oddity?
And this is how Desmond and Altaїr meetTo the end of his days, Desmond would not be able to explain how he managed to keep a straight face when the door (and yes! He finally had a door!) to his house/office opened and in walked his ancestor.
* * *
From there I see Desmond managing, somehow, to play himself off as a civilian to Altaїr, and one Altaїr takes a liking to visiting. Mixing business with pleasure, as it were - because Desmond still has the habit of monitoring his surroundings, and with his livelyhood literally consiting of writing down information...
Sometimes, he is able to share more information with Altaїr than even the Bureau can provide. He just makes sure to wrap it out as part of casual conversation - sometimes as gossip, sometimes worded as an anecdote. A straight warning, when he can get away with it. Somehow, this ends up with him writing letters to Malik whenever Altaїr stumbles into his shop dead on his feet
(yes, I am using this as an excuse for Malik and Desmond being penpals. Altaїr even names Malik as his sibling, in what Desmond supposes is an attempted moment of discretion)
And that is where I can see Altaїr starting to go yandere. At first it’s well meaning - keeping away undesirables to keep one of his better informants safe. Then, as the talks grow longer and stray away from work matters - because he doesn’t want to see Desmond hurt
It’s not that he intended to start bringing Desmond gifts - it was something more of an... Overcorrection. See, one time during a friendly argument Desmond ended up throwing a feather at Altaїr, that somehow managed to get stuck in his hood. And it was somewhat of a reflex to use it the next time Altaїr had to get rid of a guard that paid a littlee too much attention to Desmond’s shop. And with Desmond acting just close enough to how a Dai’s role - it was as much of a reflex to present him with the bloodied feather when they next met
Altaїr took the panic on Desmond’s face as an aversion (it wasn’t; but Desmond went through several cycles of “oh shit he knows” in the few brief minuted it took for Altaїr to speak again) - and next time, it was a trinket he snatched instead
It takes a few gifts before Desmond’s belief that he managed to play incognito melts away like fog under morning sun
A set of cups he recognized from one of the assassinations he remembers Altaїr performing in the rich district
A sash from a particularly noisy merchant in the local souk
A bracelet he had once seen on a... Particularly lingy lady who would not leave him be whenever they crossed paths on the city square
And the hoard keeps growing, to the point Desmond is cautiously making sure everything is stashed out of direct line of sight. No need for someone else to recognize what these were, right? But it’s difficult, because Altaїr is visiting often these days - and Desmond doesn’t realize that the information he has been leaking to him is speeding things along Too fast, even. Because someone among Dai makes a note of this in their report to Masyaf. And Dsmond becomes a person of interest - to either be recruited, or removed Which... Doesn’t go nearly as seamlessly as it would have for any other person. Why? Because Desmond is known. And he left enough hints around people started questionin Al Mualim - Malik being chief of them. When Altaїr brought his own doubts to Malik? That was one of the last nails Naturally When Altaїr brought Al Mualim’s blade to Desmond Desmond finally had his full blown freak out

I’m thinking something like that fic ‘The Double Edged Sword’ by AuRon_Scaleless where Ezio and Altaïr are being manipulated by the apple of Masyaf to hate Desmond.
Difference is, the apple of Rome is also there because Ezio brought it with him by mistake so now it sits with Malik for safe keeping. The Masyaf one sits with Altaïr because the man studies it.
Anyway! The two are mistreating Desmond and he’s slowly falling apart with the mixture of bleeding effects and the after math of using the eye to save the world. With the added words and jabs at his apparent ‘betrayal’ it just deteriorated him more.
Malik is just as distrustful of the young man as anyone but at the same time he can feel that there is something more going on here. He just can’t figure out what.
This is until the Rome Apple decides to show him just what Desmond had gone through before popping up here. He sees the farm, the way he grew up, the borderline abuse disguised as training, the years of running and constantly looking over the shoulder, the eventual capture.
He sees Desmond fighting tooth and nail against the modern templars and he sees them drug him, forcing him into the animus to do their bidding. Then there’s the assassins doing pretty much the exact same things to him, his time in the machine growing longer and more frequent as his symptoms get worse and worse and worse.
And when Malik thinks it’s finally all over, that this used and abused young man can finally get a break from everything the ones who promised him a painless death and swift passing on do the exact opposite.
Malik can feel the wisps of pain that Desmond experiences and even that is almost too much for him. He sits there and watches Desmond scream and writhe for what felt like hours but must have been mere seconds.
Then Desmond is transported here, a few months after his second ancestor mind you, only to receive treatment just as bad as his original life.
Malik is practically thrown out of the memories, breathing turned ragged and tears that he didn’t event notice before streaming down his face. The apple in his hand pulses gently, as if it is saddened by the memories he had just witnessed, imploring him to do something to save the young man.
Before he can even move there is a hesitant knock on his door, a familiar head of brown accompanied by a face that is much too gaunt popping through the doorway with a hesitant smile. Despite everything the man still tries to smile at everyone and gain their trust, a feat he has not quite achieved with everyone sadly.
Desmond opens his mouth to speak, Malik hasn’t a clue as to what he’s about to say because he’s already up and across the room. He pulls the young man into a firm yet gentle hug, mindful of his still tender arm and trying to convey every single jumbled emotion he feels in that moment. God, Malik’s sure he has never despised missing an arm more than in this moment.
“I’m so sorry Desmond… you didn’t deserve… any of this. But you worked so hard for the brotherhood, for us and I am so proud of you.” There’s a moment where the young assassin doesn’t move, frozen in his arms before his chest suddenly hitches, body collapsing against Malik’s own as he lets out a quiet, bitten back sob.
The sound just makes the pain radiating through the Dai even worse. God the man couldn’t even cry freely without fear of something happening to him. He ignores the thoughts though, bringing Desmond to the pile of cushions he has set up in the corner of his office for those late nights he can’t quite make it back to his sleeping quarters.
They collapse into the mound together, Desmond burying his head deep into Malik’s chest and clutching his robes as he shudders and silently cries against him. The Dai can feel the young man’s mouth opening against his chest, as if he wanted to scream and sob aloud, but no sound escapes. Just ragged breaths and quiet sniffles.
They lay there for several long minutes, Malik keeping his arm looped around Desmond and running the tips of those fingers up and down what little of his spine he can reach. The young assassin doesn’t seem to mind though, relishes in it even as he slowly begins to calm down.
Before either of them realise it Desmond’s fast asleep, face looking peaceful and form more relaxed than Malik’s ever seen. He can’t help but plant a tender kiss on the younger’s forehead, breathing him deep as he tries to think on what to do next.
Apparently today is a day for interrupting him since there is another knock on the door, the noise loud and startling in the now quiet room. Desmond doesn’t even flinch at it though, an apparent testament to how exhausted he is.
Before Malik can get up the person enters, pleasant greeting on his tongue dying before it fades into an annoyed and angry scowl at the sight that greets him.
The Dai feels his own annoyance and anger rise at the sight of it, all those previous moments over the last few weeks suddenly springing to the forefront of his mind. Malik growls lowly at his longtime friend, glaring at him in a way that he knows the other is somewhat scared of, though the man would never admit to it.
“Get out Altaïr. I will speak with you later.” The mentor isn’t as easily cowled apparently, already opening his mouth again before stopping when Malik suddenly shoots to his feet. He had been extracting his arm and Altaïr hadn’t even noticed until now.
“I said leave novice. Do not make me say it again or I will make sure you regret it.” The mentor looks down at the still sleeping form of Desmond with one last glare before turning on his heel, walking out of the room and slamming the door behind him.
Malik huffs out an annoyed breath at his antics, turning around only to be met with wide and frightened eyes, scanning over everything as if looking for an escape route.
Also I suddenly thought of this. Desmond goes to the poor districts to help treat the sickly people (he has first aid knowledge because of his need for survival while he was on the run. Nothing like surgery but basic shit like how to prevent an outbreak and set a bone sort of stuff) and as a result the people there love him. It’s the only place he can feel like he’s doing something right and feel as if he belongs.
Nobody else knows of this for obvious reasons. They’d either spread the rumours there and make everyone hate him or they’d do something equally as bad. But that’s where he escapes to when things get to be too much for him in the bureau.
He’s not allowed to leave either because they have to ‘make sure he isn’t a threat to the people’ even though they don’t spare him a single thought the second he goes missing.
Malik follows him one day and when he sees just what the man does in order to help people he can’t help but feel even more anger toward Altaïr and Ezio. How could they treat a man so broken and pure like that? How could they hate him so when he smiles that reassuringly toward a child who has merely scraped his knee? It makes no sense.

What are your favourite AC characters?
In no particular order:
Ratonhnhaké:ton/Connor (overall favorite, aspire to be more like him love everything about his character and story. I love his performance and subtleties in posture and ‘business’ such as how he keeps his hands busy and scratches at himself. Incredibly tragic, but despite everything he still fights to protect what he loves. Done a major disservice by,, everyone. I love him so much. I love big men with an even bigger heart!! I talked enough abt him in general u already know)
Leonardo da Vinci (aspire to be like him, lovely charisma, fun and silly, I see a mildly dark potential conflict with him, gender and voice envy. Major sentimental value because this character inadvertently helped me realize more about my own identity. I wouldn’t be so sure of who I am today if not for him, so he’ll always have a special place in my heart for that.)
Altaïr Ibn-La’Ahad (Sentimental value with all three of Altaïr, Malik and Maria since they remind me of my partner!! I like ac1 too for it’s moody atmosphere and I associate him with that. He has incredibly great character growth. Plus he’s autistic he told me himself)
Malik Al-Sayf (loooove his voice and performance and design. Love his design and I love his character growth. He deserves more love and the set isn’t complete without him he’s like glue.)
Maria Thorpe (one that reminds me most of my partner I love thinking about her own character journey and redemption. Her dynamic with the other two is incredibly fun to think about and I wish we got more of her. :)))
Ziio/Kaniehtí:io (I see soooo much potential in her. She’s done dirty by the writers and I wish there were more thoughts and headcanons on her in general. Love her actress and voice and overall performance and design. I wish she better haunted the narrative, and I can see so so so so many parallels between her and Connor. I wanna flesh out her backstory and her side and perspective of just. Everything. Since I’ve been replaying ac3 I’ve been rotating her in my head nonstop.)
Kanen’tó:kon (underrated!! I really love the conflict set up between him and Connor and I love tragic fallouts between friends. I just wish it was handled better towards the last leg of their story instead of Lee’s contrivance— and I wish Connor didn’t have to kill him. I absolutely adore his character design, and his voice and performance is wonderful. I love how his development contrasts Ratonhnhaké:ton’s)
Achilles Davenport (I don’t know rogue well so sorry in advance, but yeah I know he fucked over the brotherhood majorly. And he knows that too. I know he’s meant to be more tough and not very welcoming, but I’m a sucker for tired and grumpy mentor figures. I like to see him as a father figure for Connor and have that be elaborated upon. He’s not perfect and when he and Connor fight, I can’t help but feel and understand where both of them come from. He’s worn and jaded from past failure, but it’s nice seeing him come out of his shell in the homestead missions and grow to become a mentor again, and hopefully learn from Connor too. I love his design and I’m absolutely in love with his actor, performance and voice.)
Haytham Kenway (FANTASTIC villain and antagonist. Tragic backstory doesn’t justify how he became who he was tho. He’s a very successful unreliable narrator type, and he’s interesting to study critically. Hands down has one of the best voice performances in the game. Love his design. He’s very fun to root against. I love him so much as a tool in the narrative to drive home the idea that you can’t always fix someone, especially if they belittle and manipulate you. He’s incredibly scary in that sense, but very well done. I love how Connor triumphs over him and how his own hubris and stubbornness leads to his demise. Best Templar in the series imo.
Desmond Miles: silly. Trauma from childhood and he shouldn’t have to forgive his piece of shit dad. I want him to chill and relax. He’s lived so many lifetimes in the span of a few days,, he’s tired. But silly. Love his voice and the music accompanying his dream sequences in Revelations

So I know in the modern au you said the boys would probably all be around their 20s but we know canonically some of them have kids - how would they react to finding out some of them are parents? Thanks!
so in my AUs none of them are in relationships or have kids, but for the fun of it, my noggin worked.
Desmond: he's shocked, scared, and doesn't want to be a part of the child's life AT FIRST. since he grew up in a messed up family/childhood I don't forsee him wanting a kid hes got that PTSD. but if he ever found someone he truly loved and they wanted kids he'd be down for 1 (maybe 2) I think the reason being that he'd have at least 1 would be because of the love from the auditores. gender doesn't matter to him. since he had no siblings or treated like a child by his parents he'd be the one that reads books on how to take care of them, good formula recommendations etc.
Ezio: He'd be shocked, but not at the same time since hes a womanizer. excited to show his child to his family. I HC that he wants 4 kids, just like his parents had and would prefer 2 boys and 2 girls. he had good loving parents so he'd be a good dad. since he helped his mom with his brother & sister when they were younger he has that natural nurturing care/love. knows what he's doing and doesn't read books.
Arno: he too is shocked, this man thinks he may faint. loves the child before he even saw it. I see him wanting 3 kids, he'd want 1 girl and 2 boys. his parents were also very loving & nurturing and since he was an only child he got attention to himself. he knows just the right amount of discipline & 'spoiled'. he does do a little reading up on certain things before the first child is born, and then after that he's like don't worry, I got this. he'd definitely be Mr. Mom lol
Connor: he DOES faint, went into shock but he's okay. excited and scared to be a dad, his tribe and parents adore this lil baby. another Mr. Mom lol I see him wanting 4 or 5 kids, and since his tribe was so close and he helped raise other small children he also knows what he's doing. another one that got the right amount of love and affection. doesn't read up on child care, but does read up on what's the most popular/best diapers, baby wipes etc.
Edward: another one is isn't fully surprised. he'd take one look at the mother of the child and say "who the hell are you lass?" then to the child "what's that?" your child. man goes into shock and can't speak the rest of the day. he will take responsibility but it'll take awhile to sink in hes a dad. I see him wanting kids a little later in life, maybe mid 30's he's still young and wants to do things in life before settling down with a family.
Jacob: "that's a baby, why's it here?" the mother of the child turns to Jacob "its your child" cue Jacob "YOU WERE PREGNANT? all I heard was you gained weight--" Jacob gets bitch slapped. "yeah okay, I did deserve that I shouldn't have said that." ever seen the hang over? with the baby wearing sunglasses in that carrier over his chest? that's Jacob as a dad.
Altaïr: "why is there a small human in your arms?" he asks the woman as he's staring directly into the baby's eyes, who's staring right back at him. "this is your child--" he's shocked and confused. another one who doesn't want to be in the child's life but it's out of worry, he doesn't want the child to be in danger. I'd say early 30's he'd be more comfortable with a child, but he's another one who needs to find a woman he truly loved before that, like the trust needs to be deep for him. but before that were to ever happen he'd want the Templar situation to be more in control.

First & Last Lines
Rules: Post the first and last lines of the last 10 fics you posted. WIPs are welcome. Not super strict!!
I was tagged by @mirrorthoughts so thank you! Everything I've posted is from Bless This Mess, This Mess Is Mine series so let's see how this looks all laid out. 😂
I'll Keep You Like An Oath - Part 13 Booker recognises the flashbang for what it is as soon as it's tossed into the room, closing his eyes and bracing without a moment's hesitation. - Booker would do anything, here and now, to keep that.
When the Lonesome Whistle Cries - Part 12 Desmond comes out of sleep to the low murmur of voices somewhere in the room and the smell of coffee on the air. - Every thought is molasses slow and syrupy and Desmond. Sleeps.
I'm Standing Here Until You Make Me Move - Part 11 The world is still fuzzy at the edges, hard to grasp. - His apartment in Paris is obviously compromised, and he'll need something set up for when he needs to leave.
You'll Find a Man Once Lost at Sea - Part 10 It had never really clicked before, but Desmond is realising now that he's not very good at taking orders. - Previous offer stands if anything else comes up.
Take the Photographs and Still Frames in your Mind - Part 9 The Victor Safehouse turns out to be a somewhat ramshackle building at the edge of Tsaritsyn, a town which is itself just outside of Volgograd, Russia. - Your suite in Rome is no longer empty.
After I Count Down, Three Rounds - Part 8 With nothing better to do than wallow in his own guilt and misery, Booker spends 6 months testing the limits of his liver. - Shit, he thinks, blinking at the view, the floor to ceiling windows are a nice fucking touch.
Isn’t There A White Knight Upon A Fiery Steed - Part 7 The temple hums around him, alive with power. - He doesn't need to know which name is the right one, if he knows that.
I Am The Opposite Of Amnesia - Part 6 They drive until dawn, crossing the border into Germany and continuing on. - "Sure, count me in. Not like I've got anything better to do for a while."
And So He Wandered Down The Road - Part 4 Desmond is sitting in what must be the most uncomfortable chair known to man, staring at the woman he's been running from for fucking months, and feeling like a god damned idiot. - "Yeah," he says; steady, steady, "Just get us out of Amsterdam."
Killing Idiots from Acre to Dumbass - Part 3 Altaïr is a novice the first time he sees her. - Altaïr files that away in his mind - another piece of this puzzle - and hums.
hmm. idk what to make of that. i cant even recognise any patterns O.o but! there you go! 😊 imma tag @frogwithapen, @tkwritesdumbassassins and anyone else who wants to do it!

@excelsior9173 🫡 Fox’s Fic Rec Extravaganza:
(Sorry for another post/tag, but you can’t posts links very easy in comments and knowing me…. I’d run out of room on the comments lol. I’m also gonna just copy past the descriptions of the fics for you 🖤)
Transformers (Megatron/Optimus Prime):
Victory Conditions by astolat:
“Do you want me to tell you a story?” Megatron said mockingly. “You won’t like it, Prime. It’s not a very nice one.”
[Foxgloves Notes: Megatron and Optimus Prime get trapped in a cave and think they are gonna die. astolat is just an amazing author, so I wanted to include one of their works. I am gonna go reread this actually once I finish this post lol.]
Assassin’s Creed (Altaïr/Malik):
Life studies its own emptiness by Scarecrow
"For the coming year, as penance for what you have taken from him, you will obey Malik Al-Sayf absolutely"
══════════════
A study on the nature of grief, recovery, loss, and longing; a year in the life of Malik Al-Sayf as he adjusts to his injured body, and grasps with a hollow desperation for a reason to live after failing to protect his sibling, as told in slices of the twelve months he spends learning to forgive Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad, the man he blames for his brother's murder.
[Foxgloves Notes: ok, so this is omegaverse. But I am SO PICKY when it comes to omegaverse, so please. Please trust me on this one. The writing on this fic takes my breath away. It’s some of the best written work I’ve ever read in my entire life. I teared up reading this. Idk, like I know it can turn people off, but it’s the best one out there truly, and I was changed after reading it. (You can read this one blind, I think it tells you all you need to know about the plot of the game that you’d need to know, so. some of the most amazing prose I’ve ever read, some of the most gut wrenching lines, just. Fuck dude, this fic is so so good.]
Assassin’s Creed (Altaïr/Desmond [my favorite assassin’s creed ship🫡]):
I was born for this - esama:
Juno did her best to lead him to her preferred fate, but the end is coming and Desmond has doubts.
[Foxglove Notes: I feel like I have to rec the most kudosed fic in the fandom. I like esama’s style, I don’t know you’ll feel about it, but. I also genuinely love this fic, I’m not just reccing it cause it’s popular, I’m reccing it cause it’s a good read, and I liked the plot. It’s a time travel fix-it fic (my favorite trope).]
Tron (Sam/Tron, of course):
We Are Pilots - shirozora:
Six months and Sam still can't shake off his father's ghost, so Quorra suggests returning to the Grid to find the answers he needs to move on. With her monitoring from the outside, Sam goes in not knowing what he'll find or if he'll succeed. What he discovers is a dying Grid that needs his help to rebuild… and Tron, who needs to become himself again.
[Foxglove Notes: I don’t know what to say here. This is like The Classic SamTron fic. I just. *muwh* I love this fic]
Mea Culpa - 2019-2020 (EnglishLaguage):
Alan and Tron (accidentally) start to communicate. This is long overdue.
[Foxglove Notes: my notes?? 😭😭😭😭]
Genesis - EnglishLanguage:
Clu’s reintegration with Kevin Flynn burns the Grid to ashes. Sam rebuilds.
//
Prompt: Where did we come from?
[Foxglove Notes: same as the above really, EnglishLanguage is just…. Wow. Breath taking writing.]
Kingdom Hearts (Ventus/Vanitas):
You’re not the boy you used to be. - magicities:
There's no guidebook to tell you how to react when someone who made your life not worth living dies. There are, however, hands to hold yours tight as you stumble through the wreckage.
If only you can convince yourself to take them.
Vanitas: the place he came from, the home he found, and the people who helped him find it.
[Foxglove Notes: this is my favorite book of all time. Like, not even my favorite fic, it is genuinely my favorite Book of all time. It is kingdom hearts so it’s got some jarring moments where your like ‘wait, Minney Mouse??’ And you just have to roll with it cause it’s a COMPLETE au, so there’s nothing in the setting that is about kingdom hearts, it’s just the characters. I think about this work at least once a week, it’s so much more than that description, but I feel like I can’t actually talk about what is in the fic, cause it’s one of those stories where part of the story is things getting revealed. (If you read this tho, please know because it’s a complete au, you might want to treat it as its own novel, and not try to get into KH fic cause I can not in good graces tell someone to read none au KH fic without knowing anything about how absolutely bonkers the game series is. I can not even explain the plot, but that’s the point, the point of the games is that they are meant to be experienced, not explained…… sorry I went on a KH rant, it’s one of my longest hyperfixations lmao.)]

Altaïr ❤️ Reader Preference - How do You two become Friends
Here's another of my old Altaïr x Reader fanfic from my Wattpad 😋
Unfortunately, this is my last Preference fanfic that I wrote because write block is bothering me. 😭 But I still have the headcanons there, so I'll see if I can upload these to Tumblr as well. ☺️
How do You meet Him (if you haven't read it yet)
Anyway Enjoy 💕
As a Novice/Assassin:
A few days ago, Masyaf was attacked by the Templars. [Name] heard that it was Altaïr's fault that he lured their enemies to his hometown and in addition, he broke three tenets. As a punishment, Al Mualim demoted him to the position of novice.
Once [Name] calmly read her favorite book from the library. At that moment, someone went to her and walked on. "Hey! Excuse you!?" she exclaimed, "What do you want, novice?" The voice asked her in frustration. [Name] blushed at first, but immediately grinned, "Joke on you. You're a novice, too." Altaïr just rolled his eyes, "I don't have time to argue with you. I have to find a traitor who opened the gate for the Templars." "Oh... I mean- I don't want to argue with you! I just please apologize." "Well I'm so sorry~" Altaïr apologized sarcastically to her and tried to leave. 'Heck, why he's so mean? I know he just lost the position of Master Assassin, but he wouldn't have to be rude. Probably something terrible happened to him in his younger years, but he tries to hide it. I'll try to help him,' she thought.
[Name] carefully grabbed his wrist, but she didn't expect his reaction: "Leave me alone!" Altaïr lost patience and shouted furiously at her. She froze in fear, tears began to form in her eyes. Nevertheless, she tried her best not to cry in front of him. When Altaïr saw tears sliding down her cheeks, he softened his gaze. He suddenly felt sorry for her, 'No! What have I done!? I didn't mean to hurt her and make her cry! Now she will think I'm jerk like the others in the brotherhood!' he panicked in his mind. "[Name]..." he addressed her calmly, "Please don't cry." "No, I'm not crying!" she quickly wiped away her tears, "I- I apologize for that! It's just my stupid reaction I've had since childhood! I can't get rid of it... Never mind, I'd rather go."
This time [Name] wanted to leave, but Altaïr grabbed her wrist slightly. "Wait." "Why? I'm just holding you back. Just go-" "[Name], I didn't mean to be rude to you. I really apologize. By the way, what did you want from me?" "I thought I could help you. I guess who may be..." "Who?" Altaïr didn't believe his own ears. [Name] leaned over him and whispered: "It was Masun. In the morning I heard him tell some lies about our master. That's why it seems suspicious to me, but you better go and make sure from other civilians about it." "So Masun then... All right, I'll check it out." As Altaïr was about to leave the castle, he looked at her, "And I almost forgot... Thank you... sadeeqah (friend)." [Name] blushed again and whispered, "You're welcome." Since then, [Name] and Altaïr have become friends.
In a Modern Day AU:
[Name] had a day off today, so she decided to visit Desmond. She knocked on the door and was opened by her best friend, "[Name]! Hello there!" Desmond said, "Hi Desmond!" They hugged and walked inside. "How are you?" "I'm fine, thank you! And you?" she asked him with a smile on her face as she hung up her sweater/hoodie/jacket. Desmond sighed: "A little hard, but also fine, don't worry. You know Altaïr lives with me now because his dad kicked him out of the house." "Really? Why?" "Because he doesn't want to work. I'm not even surprised when he does almost nothing and wants to do what he wants." "Where is he now?" "In his room. I don't know if you can talk to him. He will always tell me to go away." "I'll try to talk to him. Okay, dude?" "Okay, good luck."
[Name] headed upstairs and stopped in front of Altaïr's room. She knocked slightly, "Desmond, go away," Altaïr said annoyed. She tried again, the door suddenly opened, "Desmond! How many times do I have to tell you-" he paused when he saw [Name] in front of him and blushed in embarrassment. "Oh... Hi [Name]..." he smiled nervously, "Hello Altaïr. I came to visit and also greet you," [Name] smiled with blush just like him. "So...? May I talk to you? If not, it doesn't matter-" "You can, [Name]! Of course! Come in!"
[Name] grinned and entered his room, which overall seemed tidy and clean. Desmond's room was the opposite: mess and dust everywhere. "Wow! I didn't expect you to be here so clean!" [Name] surprised. "Yeah, I'm not the some pig like my cousin," Altaïr laughed quietly. They both sat on the bed and looked at each other. "So Altaïr...?" [Name] began, "Do you live with Desmond because your father kicked you out?" He sighed, "How do you know? Wait, I'll guess: Desmond told you about it, right?" "Exactly. Why don't you want to find a job, Altaïr?" "I don't feel ready, even though I'm 25 years old. I just finished college and my father digs into me to find a job and move out." "And what did you expect? That money grows on a tree? He wanted you to be independent. He probably still cares about you." "If he cared about me, he wouldn't throw me out of the house and end up at Desmond's." "Hey, man! Still better than homeless!" [Name] punched him lightly in the elbow and laughed. "You're right... But still... By the way, are we going to play something?" "We can! I love video games!"
[Name], Altaïr and Desmond played video games and watched series all day. Later that evening, [Name] said goodbye to the boys and left home. "Hey, Altaïr~" Desmond smirked, "What is it, Desmond?" Altaïr frowned, "Do you like [Name]~?" "What? No way!" "But yes! I noticed how you blushed all the time sitting next to her! That means you like her!" "Oh god dammit! Shut up!" Altaïr went into the room and Desmond just laughed.

idk if this was asked already but have you watched/read Red, White & Royal Blue? The movie surprised me bc it was actually well done. But consider this!!! son of the first american female president Desmond Miles meet-disasters prince Altair, second son of the british princess Maud and syrian dignitary(?) Umar. Malik is Altair's older brother bc he has the energy : D Connor is Desmond's cousin bc i love him. its difficult for Desmond as ppl expect him to live up to Altair's reputation as the prodigious but aloof prince or whatever. In the books Alex Clairemont-Diaz has a sister who pretends to date Prince Henry when rumors of their relationship was going around, Desmond needs a big sister we should give him a sister. You know what just make the whole family big and add the Auditores in the mix, they could be more Miles cousins or idk maybe Italian royalty. You can run with it however you like tho!!!
I haven’t watched it yet but it is in my watchlist XD
Okay, so let’s set up the backstory for this one!
For this one, how about Desmond is the son of Jennifer Scott, the first American female president (sidebar: in this one, the Kenways have been in America for centuries so they’re an American family coming from ‘old money’).
This would make Ratonhnhaké:ton his cousin while Haytham suffers as the the little brother of the president XD
Of course, Edward is the best grandfather who may or may not be helping any shenanigans Desmond gets into. Ratonhnhaké:ton swears he’s there to keep an eye on his cousin but ends up helping him instead.
As for the Auditores… hhhhmmmm. Perhaps they’re Desmond’s cousins from his father’s side (William Auditore Scott being the youngest brother of Giovanni Auditore) and he grew up with them so they’re more like siblings than cousins?
To Altaïr’s side…
Altaïr would be the second son of the British Princess Maud after she remarried the Syrian dignitary Umar (and it was a huuuggee scandal) who already had two sons, Malik and Kadar. This means that Malik and Kadar would be older than Altaïr (with Kadar being a year older maybe?) and would be his half brothers.
Who were Maud’s first son?
Jacob Fyre who has an older twin, the crown princess Evie Frye.
That’s right! We’re making Altaïr have a complicated big family in this one!
Also, we can change up the whole ‘sister pretends to date the prince’ and have Evie pretend-date Desmond instead, doing it as a favor to Altaïr and also because she does care for her younger brother.
So, in this case, Altaïr is torn between two families, the royal family who are pushing so much expectations and duties to him which he’s able to meet and his father’s family who worries about him and thinks all that royal ‘power’ is getting in his head (they’re worried about his arrogance as well as this problem of his of believing he has to be the best at everything). His accomplishments are also driving a wedge between him and his older siblings, especially with Evie who is supposed to be the crown princess but is always compared to her younger half-brother while Jacob ignores it the way he always does (so yeah, Altaïr’s royal family is screwed up… oh, did I mention we’ll have Minerva as Maud’s mother and reigning queen to add more drama in the royal family? I didn’t? Well, now you know XD)
And then we have Desmond Scott, the charming oldest son of the president of the United State, who always act like everything is okay and he’s having a great time, even when he has heard and read all the comparisons being ‘whispered’ behind his back comparing him to Altaïr’s reputation, not knowing that Altaïr is annoyed by Desmond’s friendly ‘laziness’ (he gets along with Jacob sooo well it’s scary) and it took him a while to realize that he was actually jealous of Desmond because he makes it look like living with such powerful parents was… easy.
Enjoyable even.
And the more they spend time together, the more they realize that their jealousy was transforming into something much more deeper…
… and more dangerous.
(I know you wanted Desmond to get a big sister but I was thinking who we could add and it was either Layla or Lucy (or Rebecca or Bishop???) in my mind but it felt like that wouldn’t work for some reason so, instead, Altaïr gets the Frye twins as his older siblings XD Desmond instead gets to have two younger siblings. One of them is Arno, of course, because Arno deserves a happy childhood and maybe… Lucy? idk)

Each To Their Own
I'm posting this here, a site I have hadly ever used before, because it's a small nothing I don't know what to do with so I can't just post it to ao3
I want to do more with it, we'll see if I ever get around to that. ----
When Desmond was 15, he ran away from his father. He ran away from a life he didn’t want, and a father who didn’t care. The psalms still wrecked around in his head as he ran as fast as he could. He slept on the street, begged with the poor and got a job as a cleaner at a bar.
When he was 18, he ran into trouble in the alleyway next to the bar where he had gotten the job as a bartender the day after his birthday. A bunch of drunks who had been kicked out were trying to corner him behind a dumpster, but he was rescued by a scruffy teen with eyes that radiated anger and hurt. That’s when he met Ezio, who had just lost his brothers and his father. Desmond brought him a drink.
When he was 20, he stopped a sullen adult from drowning himself in beer right before christmas. The days had been long, and the man had been at the bar from the moment the bar opened. That’s when he met Altaïr, a man wallowing in the pain from years ago, a pain that never left him after he had fled Syria.
When he was 22, he met Lucy. She was turning 21 and went to the bar with her friends to celebrate. There was an unspoken beauty in the way she smiled and thanked him for her drinks, she wrote her number on a napkin for him.
----
When Ezio was 19, he was angry at the world and the justice system. They had taken his family, and broken it apart. He was looking for a fight, and found one when he saved a scrawny bartender from being beaten by a bunch of drunks. That was when he met Desmond.
When he was 21, he mat Altaïr. Desmond had taken him to their shared apartment, the man had clearly been drinking to drown his sorrows. Altaïr sobered up and told his story; he moved in not long after.
When he was 24, he met an artist with the wonders of the world in his paintings that hung from the ceiling and walls of the make-shift show-room. He was kind and easy to laugh with. Leonardo made Ezio forget his anger.
----
When Altaïr was 11, he lost his father while they were fleeing Syria. He didn’t remember much, just his father telling him to run as shots were fired at them from every direction. It was a day he would never forget.
When he was 22, he was drinking at the bar when the bartender stopped handing him his beer. The bartender dragged him to his apartment where two pairs of eyes were staring at him as he sobered up enough to tell them why he was drinking. He moved into the apartment Desmond and Ezio shared not long after.
When he was 25, he met a man with only one arm. He had seen the man before, once and long ago. The faint memories from his childhood and flight from Syria made him think of the kid who had lost his parents to the gunfire. He had protected his brother as they ran, he did not know how Malik lost his arm, but he could not deny the unsteady feeling of needing to be close to the sour looking man.

Here's a sneak preview of fic I'm currently working. Working title is Loose Ends and it is post AC 3 and post the original Yu-Gi-Oh Duel Monsters manga and anime. I guess spoilers for both. And Ac Valhalla, a tiny bit.
-
"You know you have to take care of it."
Desmond hesitates, hand stilling over golden threads of probability, glowing in the grey darkness. He hadn't gone over even a fraction of them yet, and there are probably a million things that need taking care of, now that Juno and Minerva aren't here anymore to literally pull the strings, but… he doesn't need to ask which it they're talking about here.
"I will," Desmond says. "...as soon as I find a way in, I will."
Clay scoffs. "You're not looking very hard."
No, he isn't. He'd been distracted by alternate realities, watching Ezio marry Christina and Altaïr enjoy quiet life with Maria and – and there's just a lot of stuff to look at, to see, to be… vaguely jealous of, sure, but –
"You know that time is still passing out there all linear like, right?" Clay points out. "Abstergo is still looking for Isu tech, and anyone with any ancestral memories about it – if they find out that someone figured out how to make the damn things –"
"Juno blurred those genes," Desmond says a little defensively. "They're literally been hidden from me. And everyone else too, so, even if Abstergo knew about them, which they don't –"
"That's not going to work forever and you know it. Minerva's protections already wore down – as soon as Juno dies, and let's hope it won't take her too long, her manipulations will go too. The genes will become visible again – Animus readable. Like a program, restarting backup after shutdown."
Desmond sighs, unable to argue with that. His hand wavers indecisively, and then he lowers it, shaking his head. "I know – I am still looking for a way in. I just don't have any ancestors in the area at that specific time. Do you?"
"Look harder."
Frowning a little, Desmond lets his shoulders sag a bit before shaking his head and looking at the threads of probability instead, where they rise in front of him into a magnificent glowing tree with infinite branches.
Look harder – look where? Into his ancestry? He has, Desmond is so aware of his lineage that it's a bit uncomfortable – had he missed something…?
"Think about it," Clay says, sounding almost bored now. "Juno wouldn't have wanted to give those memories to you, that data, so it's not in your DNA – but you do have some ancestry in the area, don't you? Even if it's the wrong time, you have ancestry everywhere. And this was thousands of years ago, and with your lineage…"
Yeah. Minerva had collected his genes from all over the world, putting Desmond Miles together like a puzzle. He has a wider spread ancestry than the average… so looking for who he isn't related to is almost easier than the opposite. The data must still be there, though. The Isu are hoarders, when it comes to genetic memories – they wouldn't have let something as big as this just die out. So somewhere there is someone with that connection – someone with afoothold in the right time period…
Concentrating, Desmond gathers the threads of his own lineage – and then dismisses them. There would be no connection there, he can't find this information from within. It would be somewhere else, obscured, hidden… He'd looked at some of the lineages in the area, and none of them connected to the right time or location either. It smacks of Minerva's obfuscation, she'd lead the bloodlines elsewhere probably, hiding them in the distance as well as time...
Something tickles at Desmond's fingers, just for a moment – without thinking of it twice, he wraps his hand around the thread and pulls –
– and gets pulled away with it.
-
The lineage has protections in place, it turns out – there's a trap. Pulling on that thread tweaks Desmond's own probabilities, and for a while he finds himself in a maze of chances and statistics, all of them leading him wrong. It's incredible – almost physical, like an endlessly folded space of million overlapping staircases and doors leading into more mazes, leading nowhere. Whoever wove it wasn't an Isu, can't have been – it's way too imaginative.
It takes Desmond a bit of manoeuvring to get through even some of it. Luck is on his side, though, even with tweaked probability – the trap isn't active anymore. A bit like Minerva's protection, the maze is unravelling at the edges, because probability isn't an easy thing to tame and it doesn't like to sit idle. Still fascinating, though – definitely a learning experience. If he could learn to weave likelihoods like this –
"Hello?" echoes a voice in the maze of false possibilities, and Desmond freezes. "Is – is someone there?"
… what are the chances of that?
Turning, Desmond finds himself in a sort of hall, surrounded on all sides by stairs and doors – facing a... short asian man with a partially bleached spiky hair. He looks a bit like a punk, with ripped up vest and studded bracelets – there's a belt around his neck and everything. Kinda goth punk. Huh.
"Uh," Desmond says, stunned. Definitely didn't expect that. "Hi…?"
"Hi," the other man says, frowning. "Who are you – how did you get in here?"
"How did I – how did you get in here?" Desmond asks. Desmond at least has the excuse of being a disembodied bundle of genetic data – he can just do that, now. This guy is… not that. "Do you know what this place is?"
The Asian guy frowns, looking at him and then glancing around. "Do you?"
Swallowing the urge to say asked you first, Desmond looks the guy up and down, and then peers inside. Or tries to – and it clicks.
"Oh shoot, this is yours – we're in your head?" Desmond asks and glances around with new appreciation. It's like a – a load screen, an Animus headspace. "Aw man, I'm sorry, I didn't think you might be aware – I thought this was all automated, I wouldn't have just barged in like this if I thought it was all in someone's head."
The Asian punk blinks with surprise and then relaxes a little. "Oh. Well, if it wasn't intentional – and you're not here to harm anything, I guess it's alright?"
"No, no harm intended," Desmond assures. "Sorry – hi, I'm Desmond. Desmond Miles."
"Mutou Yugi – or Yugi Mutou, I guess. Yugi is my given name. It's… nice to meet you?" the punk says and clears his throat, looking him up and down. "Um, how do you end up in someone's Soul Room accidentally?"

I’m curious to get your opinion on two things regarding the AC games:
1. The sequences set in modern time/the modern aspects of the stories
2. The supernatural aspects of the stories
I’m not the biggest fan of either of those facets of the games, but Odyssey and Valhalla (especially the latter) really just went too far in my opinion.
I tolerated the modern sequences in the older games with Desmond Miles. I definitely didn’t enjoy them, as they always pulled me from the game, but I understood it was a staple of the franchise. The closest I ever came to enjoying them was with Black Flag. Now, though, I just can’t stand them. I find them boring and overblown. The plot is stupidly convoluted. I don’t care about anyone other than Shaun and Rebecca, and it seems like Ubisoft just brought them in as fan service. But the whole Basim thing really just tipped me over the edge. Holy shit was that stupid. I know it’s a staple of the franchise, but I genuinely wish Ubisoft would just ditch the modern story lines and focus on the story people actually care about.
As for the supernatural elements, I think Ubisoft has just gone way off course. I don’t mind the whole Pieces of Eden thing—I actually think it’s interesting. But Ubisoft has made supernatural stuff the centerpiece of their games. It’s like they said “Well, we don’t know how to make an interesting plot, so let’s just throw in a bunch of gods and mythical creatures!” The historical basis of the AC games is what makes them so interesting, but Ubisoft is abandoning that. They’re barely even tethered to reality anymore. Valhalla just seems like a much shittier version of God of War. I want the villain to be an actual historical figure not a watered-down Loki.
Anyway, sorry for the rant. It just kinda pisses me off seeing what’s been done to the AC franchise. Odyssey and especially Valhalla just don’t seem like AC games anymore. I honestly think that if you took away the title, people would have a hard time associating the games to the franchise.
But I’m curious to hear your thoughts!
P.S. Sorry about any formatting issues, I’m on mobile.
Another essay incoming.
1. The modern storylines are not my favorite. They never have been. I’m mainly playing Assassin’s Creed to run around in different periods of history, murder people, and do sick parkour moves. While the modern-day portion has never been a personal favorite, in the end, I did not mind Desmond. He was his own fully realized character with motivations and responsibilities, and in the previous games, that worked. We had two coherent storylines running side-by-side together. Desmond’s story was fleshed out very well, and most players became emotionally invested in what happened to him, myself included. The Creed was an integral part of his story, and he was vital to the success of the early games.
Another reason why I did not mind Desmond was because of how the Animus functioned in earlier games. The user had to be descended from the historical protagonists (i.e., Desmond’s bloodline was descended from Altaïr, Ezio, the Kenways), so it put a huge emphasis on his role in fighting the Templars/Abstergo —hundreds of years had been leading up to this. That meaning began to crumble in Black Flag with someone (the player) being able to relive Edward’s memories with just Desmond’s DNA, but the family connection was still there. Then that meaning was completely lost beginning in Origins, where we are introduced to Layla, who can go around picking up anyone’s DNA and then pop on her VR Animus or jump into a portable one. The key aspect of why the Animus was so special was completely lost in that moment.
Now Layla. This is when I began to view the modern-day component as just an obstacle to overcome as quickly as possible to get back to the much more interesting historical gameplay. Layla is poorly written in my opinion. She is an awful, irritating, arrogant, and selfish character. There is barely anything likable about her and, during Odyssey especially, she got worse as the story progressed into the Atlantis DLC. The whole time during the main story, she ignores or refuses the advice and help from her friends, especially Victoria, who she later kills, and in my opinion, proves why she is an unsuitable person to be the Heir of Memories. Also, it rubs me wrong that when the Eagle Bearer hands over the Staff and dies, the first thing she does is, “oh, let me just hop into the Animus again right next to the corpse of the person I’ve been living as.” And in the end, it looks like the over two thousand years Alexios/Kass spent as the Keeper was pretty much for nothing, ouch.
When they announced Layla would still be in Valhalla, I let out a very loud, very displeased groan because I knew it would mean suffering through the modern-day parts before I could get back to being a Viking (and I hated every single Animus Anomaly too, my god). And by the end of the Valhalla, I was ready to say good riddance (and I did), but at the same time, her ending essentially negated the importance of Alexios/Kass’s story. And yes, Shaun and Rebbeca were most definitely there as fan service and reiterate that this new and ridiculous modern storyline is still somehow tied to what happened in the previous games.
At this rate, I don’t think Ubisoft even knows where the modern-day storyline is going anymore, and in general, perspective changes in RPG games just don’t work. It breaks the immersion and becomes super annoying. After the Desmond arc ended, Ubisoft should have either done away with the modern-day connection completely or rethought the design so you aren’t pulled out of the game every 5 to 10 hours to be reminded “hey, you’re actually a lady wearing a VR headset and this is still an Assassin’s Creed game.” If the games must continue to have a modern-day component, then a few cutscenes at the beginning and end should suffice.
2. The mythological aspect with the Isu has been present since the beginning of the series, and up until Odyssey was handled very well, I think. I do like the mythological aspects, to a certain degree. The backstory for this has been there and steadily growing since the first game. We knew about the First Civilization and the Great Catasphroe and that it was important, and why it the Apples of Eden and other artifacts couldn’t fall into Templar hands but then beginning with Odyssey, that direction was completely lost. I think I know what Ubisoft wants to do, but their writing and storytelling skills are not up to par with what they used to be.
It does make sense though that the Isu are seen as gods to different peoples, and that's about where things stop making sense. Just with Aletheia, her story between Greek, Roman, and Norse mythology is super convoluted and could have been better executed. Also of note, if a single Isu is meant to be a deity across several cultures, then who is the Greek and Roman equivalent of Havi, Loki, Thor, Freya? Or is Aletheia the only one with a triple persona? It doesn’t make sense, and considering the future plans for Assassin’s Creed as an online Fortnite-esque battle royale pay-to-win, I doubt a lot of these questions and plot holes will ever be answered.
I won’t even begin to discuss the issues with the actual mythologies they are using but I’m sure @mrsragnarlodbrok can tell you all about how they have misinterpreted/ruined certain aspects of the gods and nature of Norse Mythology.
3. As for the last two games not feeling like Assassin’s Creed? It’s because they aren’t. The introduction of player choice into the RPG game style effectively negated everything that made an Assassin’s Creed game feel like an Assassin’s Creed game. Odyssey was more of a way to explore the origins of a proto-Templar society with the Cult of Kosmos. And while Valhalla had assassins and a hidden blade for the protagonist, it was not centered on the brotherhood (and I quite like that Eivor did not join them, tbh) but on how the Order of Ancients began to transform and establish themselves into the Templar Order.
Odyssey and Valhalla have taken a lot of material from other games (God of War, The Witcher, and Shadow of Mordor and War, to name some of the ones that come to mind), almost to a degree where I’m asking myself how Ubisoft has gotten away with it. The mercenary system in Odyssey was a very poorly done mockery of the Nemesis System from the Shadow of Mordor games. Many of the “new” skills in Valhalla (and by the looks of it, the new DLC too) are just straight up from Shadow of War. It’s been quite some time since the Assassin’s Creed series added something fresh for the video game world, in my opinion, and at this point, Ubisoft is just milking this money cow for as long as they can. Could Ubisoft make an open-world RPG set in history? Yes. Should they have done that for the Odyssey and Valhalla? Probably, but if they slap that Assassin’s Creed logo on it and make up a poorly written storyline that somewhat connects to the golden Ezio trilogy, then it’ll sell more copies.

I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR YOUR THEORIES PLEASE
PHEW ok so strap on your cowboy boots and slap on some yoga pants bc this is gonna be a bumpy ride and maybe a stretch
Under the cut is gonna be rambling on fandom discourse nonsense, yaoi/fetishism and incest shipping
So ok yaoi/fujoshi culture was and still is pretty rampant in fandom spaces
And assassin’s creed wasn’t an exception to that starting in 2007
I remember there’s like,, actual yaoi mangas being sold with altaïr and Malik and Robert de Sable or whatever that got law-slammed by Ubisoft bc copyright but my memory is fuzzy on that.
Yaoi is ,, really reductive and fetishistic (it’s a shame it’s an early exposure for people who ARE of those sexualities or identities to go “huh thats an option” but at the same time view themselves as inherently sexualized or “sinful” which is a learning experience I underwent)
It still remains popular among fans who aren’t of those identities and don’t want to actually commit to allyship. On top of that, there’s the homophobic streak of how same sex attraction is “taboo” and people wanna find their cheap thrills through that.
So lots of men get shipped together, irregardless of relations or logic or just to get women out of the picture depending on the ship. “Taboo” comes into play here especially when incest starts getting involved.
Like,, Ive seen popular artists ship Kadar and Malik and Altaïr as a threesome (emphasis on threesome in the sexual sense) while actively scorning Maria for no reason, and ezioleo shippers who pretty much disregard and invalidate every other relationship Ezio has been in (I’m a firm believer in every relationship Ezio had reflecting and building his growth as both an individual and a reciprocal partner)
And when ac3 came into the picture, when there’s not really a “direct” man to ship Ratonhnhaké:ton with (a leo for Ezio, a Malik for altaïr, Shaun for Desmond, etc)… they went to shipping him with Haytham. Because they’re the only men in that ac3 radius (you got wackos shipping him with Washington and Lee too, but while still gross, those are more fringe I think). Bonus since it’s ✨taboo✨!! You got an incompatible, racist, and a blood-father and son relationship in one gross package.
But hey it’s the most popular ac3 ship according to fic sites so … must be the guy+guy thing.
So I think that the “shipping Desmond with his ancestors” thing is another effect of this type of “taboo” yaoi culture, while disregarding the actually LGBTQ+ fans of the material who have way better insight and other options for shipping when it comes to the games (I’d prefer Frenchfrye over Rothfrye by a long shot though the former is completely a fan-thing— at least it doesn’t perpetuate predatory tropes in conception)
Or maybe some people think they’re far removed down the family tree enough to be shippable which,, not.
Or maybe some people are new to the fan base and just thought these characters look cool together— where I’d advise to educate them that they are related and hope they change their mind. If they’re still adamant,, block n move on.
Anyways hope that makes sense!

Tagged by @random-french-girl this is gonna be my break after hours of very interesting but very dense lectures
three ships: lately it's been a lot of nastya/aurora, artemy/stakh and vi/caitlyn although I'm just..not writing that much since the year started. Maybe it's gonna change now that I have access to google docs again
first ever ship: good lord it was too long ago... first I wrote for I think was shaun/desmond or altaïr/malik. Could be wrong though.
last song: still on a antigone by aephanemer loop.
last film: watched apollo 13 with my parents last week bc I never saw it before ! It was fun, there really is something about those late XXth century catastrophe blockbusters
currently reading: was feeling tired and bad so I grabbed a desolation called peace at the library for comfort scifi just yesterday. Having  a hard time caring about the stakes bc I find the aliens really cool so all the politics feels distracting and I ended up just reading the prologue 34 times instead but it's still fun.
curently watching: nothing... might fuck around and rewatch arcane now that I have good internet.
currently consuming: orange and cinnamon tea
currently craving: my day off tomorrow and all the dnd planning/playing I'm gonna do
Tagging whoever tumblr suggests me, @chiyumi94, @robomori, @voxiferous, @ourdragonsarebetter and anyone who wants to spend 10 minutes sharing opinions
