#where did you learn that
Vesuvia Weekly: Secret Skills
some random headcanons for the @vesuviaweekly prompt "Where did you learn to do that?"
Julian: whistles better than he sings. once, while less-than-sober, he was dared to whistle an aria and did it so well he put a local opera soprano to shame. the only performance he's oddly embarrassed of
Asra: early in your recovery, on bad days, they would read some old, carefully kept storybooks to you and enchant the words to act it out. doesn't say where the books are from or how he learned the spell
Nadia: understands most of Julian's medical references because she was Nazali's favorite practice patient. also the source of numerous medical equipment innovations but hates hearing how they're used
Muriel: can wiggle not only his eyebrows independently, but his nose and ears as well. you found this out when he was describing a rabbit encounter to you and started subconsciously mimicking it
Portia: if she's not overthinking it, can instinctively understand most languages on a basic level even if she's never heard them before. this has given her a terrifying reputation for reading minds as emissary
Lucio: terrible actor, but amazing at impressions. if he meets someone once, he can mimic their accent. meets them twice, mimics their body language too. thrice, and he's got their whole personality

listen, i LOVE all of the Destiel fics i've read (hundreds) and i LOVED the dcbb of 2014 but something is missing since then - we NEED more fics that include the fact in s9, Metatron gave Castiel his knowledge of - essentially - EVERYTHING EVER WRITTEN AND FILMED prior to 2014/2015. I need him to know kama sutra, casa erotica, bdsm, enemies to lovers, "the pizza man" on an UNGODLY intelligent level.

Nadia’s Mehndi
A fluffy little drabble of my apprentice doing Nadia’s henna. I wanted it to come off naturally, but I’m not in the mood to edit it right now 😭😭, so I’ll just hope and pray it comes off nicely and there are no errors. 💕🙏
The Countess spared no expense treating her lover with the loveliest of delicacies as gifts. Alas, her lover was a simple woman who distinctly cherished the one thing money could not buy — her time.
Nadia was a symbol of grace and resilience. She often reminded Taduki of gorgeous sculptures of women, the epitome of beauty. Though she found that, regardless of what she looked like, she would love her all the same, which is why she wanted to decorate her with a special treatment.
She presented her love with a modest, cone-shaped tube of Henna in the palace gardens.
“Oh, my! I haven’t seen this for quite some time.” Nadia smiled. She sighed and rubbed her temple, “My sisters used to draw on themselves for hours. It was at its worst when they insisted on collaborating on my body… But I do have fonder memories of this, my dear.”
Taduki cut off the end of the tube with a pocket knife and placed the tip of the henna on her love’s arm. She hummed and asked, “Would you tell me?”
Nadia watched her fluffed up curly mess of hair move around while she worked. She let out a giggle and said, “Sure.” She had it done during her wedding with Count Lucio. Yes, it was customary in Prakra, but she also saw it as a testament to the first step in her new life.
She stopped herself. “Darling?”
“Mhm?”
“Where did you learn to do Mehndi? During your travels?”
“Yeah”, Taduki replied. “We did performances and stuff, but not everyone was looking for a show. It actually started because I saw this super bored kid and I offered to draw something on him. It spiraled into a service after that.” She laughed.
Nadia planted a sneaky kiss on her forehead. Taduki looked up and grinned, then asked suddenly, “Say, Nadi? Why do you call it Mehndi?”
Nadia subconsciously played with her lover’s coily black hair in thought. After a moment, she raised an eyebrow. “Is that not what it’s called?”
“I call it henna”, Taduki returned to her work. “I’ve heard people call it Mehndi before, but I have no idea why! It’s just so different.” She squinted.
Nadia sat back on the edge of the fountain, careful not to move her arm. She looked at the sky in thought and inquired, “Henna comes from the henna plant” — she stopped herself. “Wait, no. It’s the other way around! Henna is the plant itself.”
“Yeah, and then Mehndi is the brown stuff.”
“Oh, goodness. Well, when you put it like that—.” Nadia hid a disgraceful snort behind her hand.
Taduki shoved her and laughed. “Do you remember—.” She interrupted herself with a cackle and a wheeze. Nadia gently held her arm, a big grin still stretched over her face, and laughed, “Stop that! You’ll hurt yourself!” Taduki held her stomach and hiccuped. She wearily fanned herself and continued, “The dinner at Vlastomil’s…”
Nadia let out a raucous laugh and clasped her hands together. “Yes! Yes, I do!” She nodded.
“Ewww!”, Taduki recalled herself saying out loud. She wheezed and rolled onto the grass, still shaking with laughter. Nadia followed her and fanned herself off before holding her. She waited for her lover to calm down and catch her breath, but by the time she did, she must have been half-conscious. She took a deep breath in and out. “Never let me tell a joke ever again, please”, she groaned.
Nadia smiled and pat her stomach. She hummed, “I’d miss you.”
Taduki wearily looked into her eyes and hummed back, “Me too.”
Nadia’s shoulders shook and she mouthed, “What?”, before shaking her head and leaving it be. She sighed dreamily and stared into her eyes.
The grass made for a soft cushion and their eyes were starting to droop. Their bed was neatly made in the palace, but they drifted further and further into their sleep, for it did not matter where they were or that one’s mehndi was smeared. They were safe, and they were together.

Vesuvia Weekly: "How Did You Learn to Do That?"
“How did you learn to do that?”
“My master taught me.”
Whenever the question was posed, that was Chimalus’ response.  It was almost instinctive at this point. Though Chimalus had graduated from “My master taught me” to “Asra taught me,” the meaning was still the same.
After all, Asra had taught them everything.  He was the one responsible for bringing them back.  He was the one who taught them how to be a person again.  And after that, he hadn’t stopped.  He’d taught them how to read.  How to write.  He’d taught them nearly everything they knew about magic.
So it was only natural that, when Nadia first led them to the palace stables and asked if they knew how to ride, their response was much the same.
“Asra taught me how, once.”
Nadia had smiled then, one of the first smiles that was meant just for Chimalus, a smile that made their heart skip a beat.
“My, you are full of surprises, aren’t you?” she’d said.
And in that moment, though they hadn’t fully understood why back then, Chimalus had wanted nothing more than to keep surprising her.  To see that smile more and more often.
Which was exactly what they did, though it was hardly ever on purpose.  Since the fateful day that Nadia had come to her shop, searching for help, Chimalus and Nadia had experienced more than their fair share of surprises.  But they had gotten through everything the universe decided to throw at them.  And now, at last, things had started to calm down.  There was still much work to be done.  Still so many things that needed to be fixed.  But there was also enough time to steal away for an afternoon to have tea with friends.
Which was exactly what they were doing when the subject of riding came up.
“Did you ever ride, Asra?” Nadia asked.  “I seem to remember hearing something of the sort...”
“No,” said Asra with his Magician smile.  “Well... not horses, at least.”
Chimalus didn’t hear how Nadia replied, or if she even replied at all.  Their hand shook as they put their teacup down.  The realization crashed over them like a wave, leaving them stunned, breathless.
Asra didn’t know how to ride.
There was no possible way he could have taught them.
So how did they know?  How did they remember?
In any other circumstance, they would chalk it up to simple muscle memory.  But that didn’t make sense in this case.  Not when their muscles carried so few memories in the first place.
And if Asra hadn’t taught them to ride... who had?
Such questions were dangerous.  Chimalus and Nadia had been working towards unlocking the secrets of Chimalus’ past.  Of the life they had lost.  And while Asra had done his best to help, he admitted that there were some things that even he didn’t know.  Chimalus hadn’t shared every detail of their past with him.  There were some things, Asra explained, that had apparently been too painful or upsetting to share.
Which meant those memories may have been lost forever.  Chimalus had, unwittingly, hidden their own history.
How much else had they lost?  And if it was so painful, so heavy that it was a burden not even Asra could bear, did they even want to reclaim it?
But the question pestered them.  Demanded answers.  And they had no answers to give.
All they knew was that Nadia would remain by their side.  Whatever the past held, the two of them would face the future together.  And they had more than just Nadia.  There was Portia, of course, as stalwart a partner as anyone could ask for.  They had Asra, who had always supported them.  They had Julian, who had a knack for running into and out of trouble, which may have been exactly what they needed in this case.  They had friends.  They had family.
Perhaps that was all they needed, whether or not they ever found the life they had left behind.

we need more cringe fail (affectionate) autism representation
where are my autisms who research their special interest for hours and only retain maybe 25 to 35% of the info they read?
where are my autisms who aren't quirky silly relatable but are instead unnerving and weird to be around?
where are my autisms who were never considered "gifted" nor highly empathetic and struggle to relate to others in autism spaces because of it
I love those autisms and you should too actually and if you don't then it sucks to suck I guess

evil AU jon and martin. mostly because I just know jonny and alex would have such a good time acting that out. And also because i want to see a completely unhinged jon and a web!martin used to their full potential damnit

I just got fucking CALLED OUT by my 15 year old daughter. I was showing her some new charms I got for my charm bracelet and she said, “I’ve noticed you do this thing a lot, mom, when you’re talking about stuff you love that makes you happy. You always say, ‘I know it’s silly,’ but if you love it and it makes you happy, it’s not silly. If it brings you joy, it’s important. It matters.”
