Inter-Sect Politics for the Absolute Beginner
by Elpie (Horribibble) (@elpiething)
M, 3k, Wangxian
Summary: Today, with a formal missive from Koi Tower in hand and Zonghui staring at him with open concern, Nie Mingjue throws his head back and laughs and knows that no request will ever bring him such joy: Sect Leader Jin Guangshan has been brutally assaulted and, due to a conflict of interest, the Jin sect begs the assistance of the Honorable Sect Leader Nie Mingjue in the search for justice. - Wei Ying was raised in a brothel in Yunping, and Sect Leader Jin is having a very bad day. Kay's comments: Incredibly funny! Had me grinning the entire time. AU where Meng Shi was the one who found Wei Ying and took him in, offering him a home in the brothel. So, he grew up alongside Meng Yao and one day, when Jin Guangshan visits the brothel, Wei Ying is not going to stand by and look as his adopted family gets mistreated. Rest in pieces, Jin Guangshan's nuts. Excerpt: Without missing a beat, the young man laden in silks and ornaments and the almost tangible love of every courtesan in the room laden upon him like so much armor looks Sect Leader Jin dead in the eye and says, “A shitty lover, an angry drunk, but most of all an asshole.” Personally, Mingjue could not have asked for more. Except, perhaps, to borrow one of Huaisang’s fans to hide his face. “Young master,” Lan Xichen speaks up, ever the voice of gentle reason. “This is perhaps not the best defense…” For a moment, the youth stills, blinking at the elder jade, surprised by the sound of genuine concern. But then he takes a deep breath and plants his hands on his hips, clearly not having any of it. “It’s the truth.” He levels his gaze, once more, upon the gilded pervert. “You’ve got twenty kids at least, including A-Yao, so I know you know how a brothel works. You’re not new. If you’re coming into our houses to be a rotten bastard, you should just leave.” The only other man among the courtesans glaring death upon Jin Guangshan, has the spine to call, “Ying’er.” But Nie Mingjue suspects very little has ever deterred this man, least of all being called little baby.
pov wei wuxian, pov nie mingjue, canon divergence, canon era, wei wuxian isn't adopted by the jiangs, non-yunmeng wei wuxian, courtesan wei wuxian, brothels, bamf wei wuxian, jin guangshan being an asshole, justice, families of choice, crack treated seriously, humor, different first meeting

In the mood for...
~*~
1. I’m in the mood for fics A) where WWX doesn’t want anything to do with LWJ and LWJ is the one chasing after him.
I am also looking for any B) fics where WWX comes back and instead wants nothing to do with the cultivation world. @bigmeatycl0ws
1A)
My chain hits my chest/When I’m bangin’ on the radio by x_los (T, 2k, wangxian, modern w/ magic, case fic, competence kink, YLLZ WWX) kinda
我的皇后是農民 | sowing seeds in the cold palace by sweetlolixo (E, 49k, WIP, WangXian, Imperial Palace, Emperor LWJ, Imperial Consort WWX, Farmer WWX, Angst, Romance, Wingman LJY, Wife-chasing-LWJ, Arranged Marriage, Best Boy A-Yuan)
12 of this itmf
1B)
Ad Oblivione by Baph, HikariNoHimeWriter (M, 70k, WangXian, Time Travel Fix-It, Temporary Character Death, Canon-Typical Violence, POV Multiple, Hurt/Comfort, Grief/Mourning, Identity Reveal, Golden Core Reveal, Cultivation World Critical, Not JC Friendly, Abusive YZY, Angst with a Happy Ending)
Lay my body down by tawaen (M, 48k, WWX & WQ, WWX & WN, wangxian, WWX & JYL, canon divergence, time travel, rogue cultivator WWX, no golden core transfer, not cultivation world friendly, not JC friendly, OCs)
Home isn't Where the Heart is. by Hauntcats (Not rated, 7k, wangxian)
~*~
2. Hello hello! I’m in the mood for fics where BOTH of Wei Wuxian’s parents live — or, if one of them does die, fics where Wei Changze is the one who survives. There’s so many fics where WWX is raised by CSSR and I’m getting sick of it. BOTH parents, or single-father WCZ pretty please!
tall as the mountains that sheltered us by thelastdboy (M, 4k, CSSR/WCZ, CSSR & WWX & WCZ, wangxian, canon divergence, CSSR & WCZ live, crack treated seriously, childhood friends to lovers, genius WWX, inventor WWX, bg character death, happy ending, WCZ pov)
Cartwheels In Cloud Recesses Series by ShanaStoryteller (Not Rated, 23k, WangXian, CSSR/WCZ, CSSR and WCZ   Live, Cloud Recesses Study Arc, Cloud Recesses Shenanigans)
Post Mortem by Cataclysmic_Calamity (E, 78k, WangXian, Modern AU, Psychological Horror, friends with benefits wangxian, they're both fucked up but they love each other so much, Slow Burn, Mystery, Unnegotiated Kink, Dom/sub, Anal Sex, Consensual Non-Consent, Stalking, Drug Addiction, Serial Killers, Angst with a Happy Ending) I would say Post Mortem counts except it’s Papa Wei/Jiang Fengmian after his wife die
~*~
3. Hello! I'd like to make a request for ITMF! I'm really craving wwx becoming sect leader of yunmeng jiang! Has it been done? Yanli has weaker cultivation and is to be married out etc. Maybe the core transfer didn't work or never happened at all and wwx ends up the only one left with a core and able to lead? If anyone knows any fics with this premise and can recommend them, I will love you always ❤❤❤ @theladypeartree
The River Runs Forever by Cerusee (T, 185k, WIP, WangXian, SangLi, Badass WWX, Inventor WWX, Jiang/Nie sibling power quartet, Dead JC, Jiang Sect Leader WWX)
Trapped and Patient by Vrishchika (E, 18k, wangxian, canon divergence, non golden core transfer, JC has no golden core, slow burn, WWX & NMJ & LXC friendship, politics, WIP) This has exactly the premise but is an abandoned WIP. What is there is excellent and worth reading though.
Something From Nothing by sami (E, 55k, WangXian, XianLi, Minor QingLi, XiCheng, Canonical Character Death, Canonical Character Resurrection, Canon-Typical Violence, Canon Divergence, Assassin's Creed Fusion, Kinda, Assassin's Creed Vibes, Wangxian is endgame, Slow Burn, specifically for wangxian, no infidelity, no partner betrayal, Angst with a Happy Ending) It's a WWX/JYL and WWX/LWJ fic, not polyamory, and had really nice stories for other characters.
Twelve Moons and a Fortnight by stiltonbasket (M, 290k, WangXian, Humor, Slow Burn, Post-Canon Fix-It, Long-Distance Relationship, Epistolary, Love Letters, Family Feels, a-qing lives, teenage romance, Adoption, Romantic Comedy, Happy Ending, Weddings, Case Fic, Parenthood, Politics) this is post-canon but WWX does become Sect Leader Jiang (temporary, but with full powers)
💖 empty as the sky by incendir (T, 23k, wangxian, JYL & WWX, CSSR & WWX, be careful what you wish for)
~*~
4. hello! thank you for all your hard work!! itmf for "straight" boy wwx suddenly (or slowly) realising that lwj is actually very attractive. if there's smut, preferably bottomji but i also like bottomxian!
hi! I'm ask number 4 in the latest fic finder. to answer the question, I don't particularly have a preference for modern or canon. the same goes for whether it's more serious or funny, just that "straight" boy wwx is there
for #4, do they want modern or Canon? also lots of the fics in the "straight boy Wei ying" tag sorta has this "oblivious ! Wei ying" , does the requestor want something in that bent or more serious ?
Hide Away by sassybluee (E, 19k, WangXian, Modern AU, Modern: No Powers, Compulsory Heterosexuality, Homophobia, Internalized Homophobia, straight boy WWX, straight boy LWJ, everyone’s convinced they’re straight tbh, LWJ FUCKS, WWX fucks, referenced but not shown for both of those, Reality TV, Love Island, Slow Burn, Getting Together, Drunk kiss, Shower Sex, Ambiguous/Open Ending, POV Alternating)
To See You (Again) by FrameofMind, Jo Lasalle (Jo_Lasalle) (E, 84k, wangxian, modern, London au, LWJ fucks, bottom LWJ, friends to lovers, self-discovery, pining, grindr, light bondage, experienced LWJ, less experienced WWX, straight boy WWX)
Our Song by gusucloudbunny (T, 15k, wangxian, modern, college/university au, straight boy WWX, bisexual WWX, heteronormativity, sexuality crisis, coming out to yourself, compulsory heterosexuality, fluff, friends to lovers, alcohol, music majors)
~*~
5. In the mood for transmigrator/ modern world to canon era/ isekai/ real life to inside a novel - Wei Wuxian. @whateverweilanlovechild
So Call Me a Pessimist, but I Don’t Believe in It by Anonymous (Not Rated, 127k, WIP, WangXian, Food Issues, Family Feels, WWX is a music teacher, WN and WWX are Best Friends from the future, They use memes to talk covertly, Transmigrator WWX, transmigration au, Slow Burn)
i told you when i came i was a stranger by Caramelized (M, 50k, OFC/LXC, wangxian, canon divergence, isekai, transmigration, amateur cartography, butterfly effect, sunshot campaign, not everyone dies au, no golden core tranfer, dimension travel, politics, self-insert, foreknowledge, angst w happy ending) is my current favourite. It's not WWX as the MC but it's very good
Leveling Up Cultivation by DarkSylph (G, 72k, wangxian, LXC/WWX, JC/WWX, JZX/WWX, NMJ/WWX, WN & WWX & WQ, canon divergence, Harems, Jealousy, Genius WWX, Inventor WWX, BAMF WWX, WWX has a system, Bad Parent YZY, No Golden Core Transfer, Not Everyone Dies au, Everyone Loves WWX, Transmigrator WWX, Overpowered WWX, Oblivious WWX, Cinnamon Roll WN, Rogue Cultivator WWX, Age Progression, WWX is a Niè, WQ & WN joins the Nie Sect with their sibling, beast taming, spiritual beasts, Multiple Transmigrated Characters, Secret Realms, Dungeons, Monsters) It's not exactly what the asker wanted because wwx comes from a modern fantasy world.
A Game for the Fool by LadyCroft_Undead19 (T, 292k, wangxian, JYL/JZX, canon divergence, Gamer-fic, BAMF WWX, YilingWei, For Want of a Nail, Slow Burn, oc-self-insert, Unreliable Narrator, Massive World Building, Fluff and Angst, WIP) The second one is one of my favorite fics that I hope will update one day. Even if it's not finished and also not exactly what they asked for (because this time it's an OC that transmigrate), it's worth the read!
~*~
6. ITMF modern office-au identity shenanigans? Like where one character doesn’t know the other is his boss, ou perhaps they work for rival companies but don’t know it, etc. Preferably WangXian or ChengXian! Thank you so much! (PS I just read “Hello, IT. Have You Tried Turning It Off and On Again?” by overmountainandmeadow and loved it! More like this please!)
~*~
7. hey there ♡︎ for the next itmf could you share some fics where wangxian enlope, leave the cultivation world, go to the burial mounds or become rogue cultivators before post sunshot but before wwx's death?? thank you for the good work!

the thread may stretch or tangle but it will never break by RoseThorne (E, 88k, WIP,  WangXian, Canon Divergence, Soulmates, Self-Esteem Issues, Fix-It, Angst, Hurt/Comfort, Nightmares, PTSD, Handfasting, Panic Attacks, Getting Together, First Time, Aftercare, Implied/Referenced Alcohol   Abuse/Alcoholism, Implied/Referenced Torture, Scars, Chronic Pain, Golden Core Reveal, First Time, Switching, sex-related injury, LWJ Stays at the Burial Mounds, LSZ is a Wèi, Good Sibling JC, Dissociation, Burial Mounds Settlement Days) technically
Blossoming flowers in a full moon - 花好月圆 by ThisIsWhereTheMagicHappens (T, 64k, wangxian, canon divergence, happy ending, fix-it of sorts, wangxian cuddle to immortarility) they don't exactly become rogue cultivators, but they do leave the cultivation world behind
To live with no regrets Series by Lyna_Mei (E, 81k, WIP, WangXian, Fix-It of Sorts, Canon Divergence, Angst, Self-Esteem Issues, Golden Core Reveal, Anal Fingering, Anal Sex, Oral Sex, Developing Relationship, non-consensual marriage, CQL-Verse, Case Fic, Canon-Typical Violence, Established Relationship, Somebody Lives/Not Everyone Dies, Cultivation Sect Politics, Cultivation World Critical, Not JGY Friendly, Family Feels, Found Family, WWX Has a New Golden Core, Top/Bottom Versatile | Switch WangXian)
~*~
8. Seeing the reblog of the last ITMF reminded me to send the ask! So, for the next one: fics where Lan Wangji is hooked just by how Smoking Hot Wei Wuxian is. Before anything else, he's just obsessed by his looks for a good while before actually being won over by his personality too.
Not the biggest fan of modern aus, but anything will do, I just want him being Very Gay and Very Shallow for a minute xD
Thank you so much for all the work!
~*~
9. ITMF a fic where LWJ's gay awakening was NMJ. It doesn't have to be the main plot, but I want it to be mentioned and acknowledged. Wangxian endgame, of course!
~*~
10. ITMF for CQL post canon getting together fics? Something so fluffy and feel-good that you finish the fic with the biggest grin ever. I've been reading too much angst and now I need something to fill the hole that the angst left lol

12. For itmf: Are there any fics where people think WWX dies like in canon, but he actually survives the fall from the cliff and secretly lives as a rogue cultivator for several years before being found? I basically want WWX alive and hearing rumors about his own death and/or helping in secret for the events that happen while he is “dead.” Thank you!
Hi! I just sent in an itmf asking for WWX to surviving his “death.” I wanted to clarify that I want everyone —like JC, LWJ, the Jins— to all think him dead. I want WWX to be the only one who knows that WWX is not dead. Sorry I didn’t add this to the first ask!

15. For the next ITMF I was wondering if you could recommend Wangxian stories that have to do with one of them being some type of sea creature. I recently saw the comp that included the fic based off The Shape of Water movie so I’m in that mood now. It can be any type of sea creature, mermaid, half-octopus, or even full on different creature like in the one amazing fic every time we touch (i get this feeling) by celerydragon. I’ve read a few so I was wondering what the favorites are or if there are any new ones in spirit of MerMay recently passing that I possibly missed.
Do not waste your pearls for me by moonwaif (G, 9k, wangxian, fantasy au, mermaid LWJ, trauma, abuse, healing, unresolved romantic tension, Mojo’s post)

The Greatest Catch (meryao) Series by Shiome (E, 51k, XiYao, Modern AU, Mythical Beings & Creatures, Merpeople, Romantic Comedy, Meet-Cute, Cultural Differences, Courting Rituals, Xeno, Miscommunication, Happy Ending, Fluff and Hurt/Comfort, Shapeshifting, Blow Jobs, Non-Human Genitalia, Explicit Sexual Content, Interspecies Sex, Wedding Planning, Domestic Bliss, (And domestic troubles), Misunderstandings, Breeding, Breeding Kink, Eggs, Egg Laying, Service Top LXC, Power Bottom JGY, Feeding Kink, Mpreg) Would The Greatest Catch series by shiome count? It's technically Xiyao, but the second story does have WangXian with WWX as an octopus.
~*~
16. sorry for the long requests, feel free to ignore or divide it!! thanks for the heavenly work!!!
does anyone know any fics that A) resambles "if wishes where donkeys", as in time-travels fix it's where wangxian just want to be together no matter what?
B) also if anyone knows any fics where wwx actually becomes the lan-er furen, as in he is not only married to lwj but recognized as an authority in the lan sect and the cultivation world's gentry
C) + if anyone knows any fics that dive into wwx ancestry, that gives answers to wwx own questions about his parents that are never given in canon, or reveals that he is more than a servant or a servant's son not only buy merit but by blood, be it that he is from the gentry, baoshan sanren's grandson, mythical ancestry or even cross overs with mxxt other works
16B)

Watching the donghua for the 2nd time, and I can't help but ache for baby Wei Wuxian. Baby Wei Ying is lonely and sad, growing up in a household that doesn't welcome him. He just laughs everything off, but we can see that he really doesn't know what to do. Jiang Cheng and Yan Li adore him, especially the Jiang patriarch, but there's always a feeling that he's below them because the Jiang matriarch always reminds him of that. It's like his life isn't his own. He needs to serve this family because they adopted him. He needs to take care of and protect the Jiang siblings until the day he dies. And he did. So in his 2nd life, although I'm sad for Jiang Cheng, Wei Wuxian deserves to live his own life, having his own adventures with Lan Wangji.

It hadn't ocurred to me until now that Jin GuangYao seems to really have a chip on his shoulder about Wei Wuxian even if he isn't as loud about it as everyone else. And, superficially, he could be just another WWX hater, he has many, but if you look closer, Jin GuangYao probably hates him because he's jealous.
They both were looked down upon by the cultivation world for their humble origins, they were both far more intelligent than people wanted to admit, they both ended up in one of the big clans. They both lost the people they loved the most. They both had to find a way to thrive in the midst of tragedy and a world dead-set against them.
But, while Jin GuangYao was personally mistreated by every clan he landed into (sometimes because of his own actions, oftentimes because of his birth), and had to claw his way into his father's reluctant acceptance, had to lie and craft his way into success; from JGY's point of view, Wei Wuxian had been welcomed with open arms by Jiang Fengmian from the start. He was close with his adoptive siblings, adored by the other disciples, the #4 most eligible bachelor. He dared to be unabashedly himself and that earned him as many admirers as it did detractors. He managed to come back from an eldritch hellhole with unimaginable power. At the end of the Sunshot Campaign, despite JGY having killed Wen Ruohan, all the attention was on Wei Wuxian. Hell, Jin GuangYao was run through by the First Jade of Lan's sword and not the way he wanted, while Wei Wuxian was happily cuddling his very own Lan Jade Hottie right in front of them. Moreover, WWX derailed JGY's evil monologue to make the most crass, uncouth public confession in history.
Dude just kept accidentally stealing the spotlight Jin GuangYao craved so much. No wonder the little guy was more than happy to orchestrate WWX's demise, despite them having no history nor personal grievances.
WWX's apparently easy success was JGY's personal grievance.
Maybe things would have been different if Jin GuangYao had ended up in Yunmeng.

No bitches?
@cullen-blue23 🧟💖⚡️ was another one I thought of (“Jiang Cheng discovering the resident Fierce Corpse has a more successful love life than he does” was a joke I made to a friend a while back and it got a few laughs)
Had way too much fun writing this, I was laughing so hard. This is crack, don't start discourse on me.
Anyways, Wen Ning fucks. And he does it well. That's why he has so many return customers.
Jiang Cheng doesn't mind being single. He doesn't, really - he's made peace with it, he doesn't need anyone, he has things to do and a partner isn't one of them.
He has a sect to run, he has to help Jin Ling settle into his new leadership role, he has night hunts to go to and work to bitch about. So, he's very busy. Much too busy - in fact, even if he did want a relationship, which he does not, he would probably not even have time for even the most basic forms of intimacy. It's a blessing he got blacklisted, the last thing he needs is matchmakers pestering him.
So this isn't about him being jealous. It's about him being entirely fucking scandalized that the entirety of Lotus Pier thirsts after the Ghost General. You know, Wen Ning. Wen Ning. Wen, as in the Wen that attacked and killed their families 15-something years ago.
Nobody in this damn sect has any dignity.
Jiang Cheng is busy, as we've already established, and he has tasks to delegate to certain disciples. Regular sect leader stuff, right? Except that the universe fucking hates him and it's become a regular occurrence for his disciples to take "sick days" whenever there is word of the Ghost General being in the area.
Apparently, the incidence of "broken backs" and "unable to walk" has increased in the Jiang sect. Now Jiang Cheng may not be all too versed into this whole medicine thing, but he knows that's not an epidemic.
God, he can't even try to kill Wen Ning about it. The Lan sect's basically adopted him, and the last thing Jiang Cheng wants is to deal with them too - so all he can do is, I guess, let the Ghost General run through his entire sect.
And the worst part is, they like it. Jiang Cheng has to make an active effort not to hear about what exactly Wen Ning can do and he genuinely would rather die than ever find out. He doesn't want to know, he doesn't need to know, and he's going to qi deviate if he has to order new bedframes for his disciples ever again. Whatever the hell Wen Ning does to them, he can do it on the goddamn floor, where he won't break anything.
How the hell are dead people so fucking horny?
Actually, don't answer that.
Problem is, Jiang Cheng has started to sort of accept this. He's already had to swallow the fact that his golden core isn't his, there's very few things worse than that.
So you can imagine the kind of thing Jiang Cheng walked into his head disciple and Wen Ning doing in the Lotus Lake for him to write an official letter - stamped and everything - to the Lan sect, specifically addressed to Hanguang-Jun's honorable spouse.
Wei Wuxian,
I don't know and neither do I care to find out what the hell is causing your horn dog of a fierce corpse to come to my place and defile all my disciples, but by God if you don't do something about it, I'm going to cause a diplomatic incident that not even the fucking Lan sect will be able to mediate it.
Sect Leader Jiang Wanyin.
Three days letter, a very elegant reply in perfect calligraphy - Lan Wangji, for sure - reaches the Lotus Pier.
Jiang Wanyin,
No bitches?
Hanguang-Jun, Lan Wangji.

MXTX's women part 2
Let's do ✨discourse™✨part 2
This is a follow up to this post where the only conclusions I came to were vibes based... mainly because my opinions here are generally vibes based (except svsss - I am pretty firm on my view of svsss, but that's a separate post). I think there are strong arguments either way, and tbh I have nothing against vibes based conclusions, but for fun, I'm going to take a position and argue for it.
disclaimer: 1) this post is not my opinion. 2) nonetheless, this post is entirely unironic. I think these are compelling arguments.
Position 1: MDZS and TGCF are sexist.
To recap, I posed (dramatically, in bold face) that the most important question to ask are: What is the intent? How is that intent received? This can be summed up as: What is the message you take away?
Obviously, you can fight me here, but I'll expand. Firstly, the question doesn't fundamentally come down to what the work contains, even though this is important. Every statement on the lines of 'x is sexist because it contains y' has a counterexample. Is the Handmaid's Tale sexist because it contains men in power and women treated as objects? Well op, this is a dumb example, you might say, and you would be right. The message of the Handmaid's Tale is clearly different from, say, MDZS and everything it contains is a support of that message - that a woman's reproductive freedom is her right. And I would go, ah ha, yes. Intent. (You can still disagree with me lol. This came out of a conversation literally a week ago.)
But also note, the author's actual intent is secondary. It's a useful framing to understand what the message is, but due to e.g. unconscious bias, or internalised sexism, the message gained by the reader/audience can be entirely independent of the intent of the author. For example, (one of my all time favourite c-dramas) the Secret of the Three Kingdoms I think is trying to be empowering for women, has lots of cool female characters, but the ultimate message can be summarised as 'men plough, women weave'... which is :/
Another subtlety to point out is that trends and popular tropes/archetypes tell a very different story when looked at overall. 'Woman in the refrigerator' and 'bury your gays' isn't a problem about individual works (although it often is mixed into other problems), but it's prevalence and dominance spreads harmful messages. A work which is great on it's own can actually be contributing to a wider problem, thus making it a problem.
MDZS: Women as accessory
It's not that difficult to argue that MDZS has an exceptional cast of women. I have no intention of arguing that MDZS's women aren't well developed, because enough people have come up with compelling counterarguments and they aren't hard to find. I think MDZS's portrayal of sexism is both exceptionally nuanced and not something you see much of. I love the way MDZS uses and breaks down tropes. I would argue (have argued) that the way MXTX puts sexism into her works is (at least partly) very much deliberate, and not with the intent of being sexist.
But remember, death of the author: author's original intentions don't matter in the face of what can be read from the text.
Notable in MDZS is 1) the lack of female characters who aren't defined by their relation to a major male character 2) women in the refrigerator.
1) Jiang Yanli is Wei Wuxian's older sister. Yu Ziyuan is Wei Wuxian's adopted mother. Wang Lingjiao is Wen Chao's girlfriend. Madam Jin, Meng Shi, Qin Su. Now, there are notable exceptions. Wen Qing is Wen Ning's sister, but her character is substantial even without that. Luo Qingyang (mianmian). Sisi (arguably). But there are overwhelmingly more male characters, and perhaps more importantly, hardly any male characters defined by their relation to a female character. There are a few. Madam Mo and her husband. Jin Zixuan as Jiang Yanli's husband (arguably). This isn't an exhaustive list but you get the idea.
2) Well, firstly, most of them die. Yu Ziyuan ends up in an unhappy marriage and dies as her sect burns down. Jiang Yanli loses a husband and then sacrifices herself for her brother. Wang Lingjiao gets offed by Wei Wuxian. Qin Su is killed by her husband. Mo Xuanyu's mother and Madam Jin just die of 'heartbreak' for what? Plot convenience? More egregiously, all of these deaths are there to either a) plot reasons or b) to add to the development of a male character. This is precisely the 'women in the refrigerator' trope, but multiplied a million times.
The only female character who got her happy ending was Mianmian... who lives a simple life with her family in the middle of nowhere. And it's great that in being brave and pursuing the right thing, she found happiness for herself, but this being the only example is um...
Well, the message feels suspiciously like women exist only for men. Men are the protagonists of their stories. Women are accessories. Sounds pretty sus. Maybe this is all due to the sexism of the world, but the message is then that the only way for women to succeed is to leave the system altogether, which is a nuanced thing but not true and somewhat unhelpful as a message.
Now, arguably, MXTX is leaning into tropes in order to be critical of them. Her female characters are full of tropes, and subversions of tropes - they could act as a critique of female characters in BL (in the way the female characters in SVSSS are critique of female characters in harem). There are a few pointers to this - Mianmian standing up to sexism, or the depth and nuance of Yu Ziyuan finding power+influence through her marriage of Jiang Fengmian. But the point stands is that isn't the message most people take away, because of the way MDZS is framed. MDZS just works as a xianxia action/romance. It isn't a parody (or at least, you don't need to read it as one to follow it). It isn't explicitly critical of how the women end up, nor is the narrative centered around the experiences of women. It is very easy to take away the surface level messages, which I think many people end up doing.
Whatever MXTX intended to say with her female characters, arguably MDZS already adds to an existing problem in how media portrays women. Media plays a huge role in how we see ourselves and other people, and unideal representation of women can lead to unconscious biases and stereotypes which are harmful. This being the case, one could argue that any media that fails to either fix the issue or address the issue sufficiently is problematic. On this vein, MDZS falls short.
TGCF: women as secondary
While TGCF improves on the front of women in power doing well, and more explicitly calling out the sexism of the world, it fails at a different front: the lack of women within the core plot.
The structure of TGCF is very different to MDZS, in that it contains a lot of what I would call 'side quests'. This is not a bad thing (this is sort of the whole point of things like (old) Star Trek or Doctor Who). But the core story of TGCF is (arguably) 1) Xie Lian's two ascensions and in between 2) Meeting Hua Cheng at various points 3) Tonglu mountain. And within this core story, there isn't a single female character necessary for the plot.
Ling Wen, Xuan Ji, Banyue, Shi Qingxuan, Yushi Huang... are all exceptional female (and non-binary) characters in their own right, but the story doesn't require them. They could be swapped out quite easily with other characters, unlike e.g. main pair, Feng Xin, Mu Qing, Jun Wu... (Note this isn't about how often they appear, or how developed they are. Lang Ying (the old one) doesn't appear a lot, but is essential to the plot.) (Yushi Huang and Ling Wen are kind of required, but equally for like... quest and item giving purposes which is not really the same.)
It's almost like there is no female person in Xie Lian's life who is essential to his personhood. And the message might inadvertently be that women are part of side quests - they aren't necessary.
This is, in part, a Xie Lian problem. The narration is tied closely to Xie Lian's pov (but isn't third person limited, interestingly), and we get delights like this:
Aside from the fact that Xuan Ji went mad whenever she ran into Pei Ming, she was otherwise much more detail-oriented and cautious than Qi Rong - she was a woman, after all.
(btw, be exceptionally suspicious of statements like 'women are more detail-oriented and cautious'. They are often wrong, or with heavy caveats.)
This is not on it's own a bad thing - e.g. compare with Shen Qingqiu's narration in SVSSS. But it is arguably a bad thing if you pair it with the fact that Xie Lian is 1) presented as much more likable than Shen Qingqiu 2) is not as obviously bias. He comes across as a trustable character, and so we are less likely to question his biases... so we run into the same problem as in MDZS: we aren't led to question the surface level messages, so the message we take away is an unhelpful one.
I feel like the way around this is (somewhat paradoxically) to reintroduce female characters whose lives (from narrator pov) revolve around the protagonist. (e.g. get in an Jiang Yanli) (The 800 year time skip means they either need to 1) become gods, 2) become ghosts 3) die, all of which have their own potential problems but that's for the author to figure out :p) Making Xie Lian less sexist would be slightly unrealistic but not at all out of character. Having Xie Lian's biases explicitly called out and this be a big thing is another way to go. Or both.
To conclude
Both points fall down to something along these lines: although both MDZS and TGCF make attempts at commentary on the struggles of women, because this narrative is not at the forefront of the story they inadvertently give across only half the message, which is worse than no message at all. 'There are tropes within the genre which treat women badly and this is bad' becomes 'women are like what these tropes say they are like'. 'Women aren't given opportunities so end up worse off' becomes 'women end up worse off'.
Maybe something in between MDZS to TGCF would be an improvement, but also, if the focus on male characters meant these narratives were difficult to execute within a reasonable word count, it might have been better to just skip sexism altogether. (sci fi is usually where this is attempted seriously, but fantasy definitely has scope for imagining better societies.) (This is all much easier said than done btw. Part of a fan's job is to stand on the sidelines and complain, right? 😂)

I do not blame this Character for this event. However, I understand why this other character blames them for it, and they are allowed to feel that way.
These two sentences can very easily exist, while the character being blamed is also a victim.
For instance, I will never blame Lan Xichen for all the shit that Jin Guangyao did while using him as a shield. The key point is using him. He was used, manipulated, lied to. Lan Xichen is one of Jin Guangyao's many victims. At the same time, I cannot take malice if Nie Huaisang blames Lan Xichen for Nie Mingjue's death. That was his brother. I don't expect anyone to be rational when it comes to their sibling. That was the only family he had left. Nie Huaisang can blame whoever he wants for his brother's death. He probably also blames himself for not seeing sooner. He's also probably relieved that he was able to protect Lan Xichen from sharing the same fate as his brother. If Nie Huaisang wants to blame and hate Lan Xichen, I don't think he should be called out for it. For some reason, everyone can agree on this and lots of people blame Lan Xichen even though he was a victim.
When it comes to the Jiang clan incident, nothing about that was Wei Wuxian's fault. He didn't do anything with the intension of hurting his adopted family. He did a very good thing, he saved many lives and protected many people. No one should get punished for that, and it's argued that the Wen clan just used his actions as an excuse to raid the Lotus Pier. Excuse or no excuse, it is also perfectly understandable if Jiang Cheng wants to blame him for the incident (Except that he doesn't. What makes Jiang Cheng snap is what happened with Yanli). If Jiang Cheng feels cheated out of his home because of Wei Wuxian it's perfectly understandable. No one thinks reasonably when they lose their whole home in one night. This doesn't erase the fact that Wei Wuxian IS 100% a victim. If Jiang Cheng feels like he is Wei Wuxian's victim, it is no surprise. Yet on this, everyone disagrees. "Jiang Cheng is a horrible person. Wei Wuxian is a kind person. So Jiang Cheng bad. Jiang Cheng doesn't get to blame Wei Wuxian for actions Wei Wuxian had no control after." Blame isn't rational. Not when it comes to the people you love. Wei Wuxian loved that family and that clan like they were extensions of himself and Jiang Cheng felt the same. Jiang Cheng had to live in that ghost town with ghost memories. Wei Wuxian builds himself a new home.
I'm sorry that I just can't see Jiang Cheng as the complete villain if he ever blamed Wei Wuxian for that incident. (And he didn't. He only compiled that into the list in adulthood because he needed extra reasons to hate his brother. Hating him was easier than admitting that he loved him. Living with lost love is so much harder. Lan Wangji knows that first hand.)

Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 (you are here). Part 4 Part 5 ...
Overall Warnings: grotesque written imagery, body horror, blood, possession(?) sort of (more like integrating), voices, loss of self (since this isn't really MCD), Darker WWX (he's not classic wwx), violence
I was very easily convinced to post part three early. (looking at you @mdzs-owns-my-ass-i-guess) No warnings for this part! It's a little rough, but that's what every part will be like. The Ao3 version will be fully proofread.

Part 3
· ✦ Excuses ✦ ·
Despite their qualms, Jiang Cheng and Lan Wangji both kept a tight lid on Wei Wuxian’s apparent handicap through the war and beyond. When it came to qualms over the carrying of his sword, Jiang Cheng was quick to defend and he figured this was one of the best ways to do it. Of course there were questions, but they were deflected with the best lie they could think of: the sword, Suibian, had been critically damaged before being recovered.
They both knew the sword was intact and well in Lan Wangji's custody though, and was glad the man remained silent despite their frequent arguments about his cultivation.
Wei Wuxian never made an attempt to rise up to the invasive questions, actually. Jiang Cheng took over every time he opened his mouth, and it seemed the man had no qualms about allowing the leader to take over every conversation that questioned him. The excuse of another sword being made was simply answered by “Suibian was important to my head disciple and we are working on plans to recover it after the war.”
After the war though, time ticked down quickly and the excuses were running dry. Asking about it however was like poking a hornet's nest, which was Jiang Cheng. His glares had gotten critical from the repeated irritation he showed every time the question was asked, which actually did a pretty good job warding off most cultivators who would ask.
Then, it was time for the Phoenix mountain hunt.
“Wei Wuxian…I don’t think you should go.” Jiang Cheng was shining his sword, but lifted his head to look at his shixiong as he did so.
Wei Wuxian stopped twirling his flute, tilting his head in Jiang Cheng’s general direction so they could see each other. “Okay. Why though?”
“Multiple reasons. I’m tired of making excuses for you, for one.” Jiang Cheng sighed and squinted at the other, his hand stilling on his sword. “And the eyes are going to make people ask questions too. Can’t you make them go back to their old color?”
“Not really, they're kind of stuck like this.” Wei Wuxian smiled, still as eerie as he was during the war. "Probably the ocean of resentment i'm carrying."
“And that! Why do you look like a demon now?? You’re gonna get me in trouble with that eerie grin of yours!” Jiang Cheng huffed, finishing up his sword and sheathing it again. “It was great for intimidating during the war, but you doing that nearly had sect leader Yao asking if we had bad intentions!”
“I won't deny it was absolutely great seeing him shrink back like he did. My face just looks like this though.” Wei Wuxian frowned, “I’m not sure how to change it.”
“Well then…stop smiling in public I guess.” Jiang Cheng shrugged, throwing his hands up. “We can’t have the sects thinking you’re out to get them.”
“Those sects are filled with rotten eggs.” Wei Wuxian rolled his eyes, baffling Jiang Cheng in the process. It still surprised him every time, considering how different he acted now. “But I will do my best to appease my shidi.”
Jiang Cheng groaned loudly and held his forehead. “Alright, I'm sick of you for today. Get out of here.” He waved his hand and pulled over a stack of letters he needed to get to. “I’ve had enough ‘help’ from you today.”
Wei Wuxian hopped up from his seat and hummed. “Alright, if you say so.” He stood there in silence a bit longer, but Jiang Cheng was used to this strange behavior that Wei Wuxian had adopted. If Jiang Cheng called him out on it, it would only be met with an irritated glare, and despite his desire to kick him into his place for it, it was a harmless behavior despite its strangeness.
As if finally deciding something, Wei Wuxian saluted his sect leader and then strolled out of the office, off on his little adventure.

Propaganda for the Jiang Family
CW: murder, choking, verbal abuse, emotional abuse, homophobia
"*pats family* this baby can fit so much resentment in it. Parents dislike each other and fight, yell at children and pit them against each other leading to but not only choking each other, one of them sacrificing basically his life for the other, blaming one for their parents deaths, one of them kinda accidentally causes the other siblings death which then causes a whole body of other issues when the other one comes back to life, it's just not great overall."
"Yu Ziyuan is certain her husband doesn't love her and prefers Wei Wuxian, his husband's alleged lovechild (not actually his) over their own children, especially son, and punishes every member of the family for this. Jiang Fengmian is certain Yu Ziyuan hates him and is apathetic about it, accepting her "punishment". Jiang Yanli is mostly ignored and set aside because she has a weak body because of an illness and does like, 80% of tge actual raising of her younger siblings. Wei Wuxian, because of Yu Ziyuan, is certain he isn't actually part of the family and he should put his siblings', especially Jiang Cheng's, needs above his own (and not like, personal needs but the perceived needs as the head of the clan). Jiang Cheng, because of her mother, is certain his father prefers Wei Wuxian and he isn't good enough to be the next clan leader.
There's corporeal punishment, verbal eviscerations, lack of communication, and love. The love usually manifests as not telling family members that they are loved but instead making major unacknowledged sacrifices without consulting the person it actually concerns, and then keeping it a secret and distancing that family member. They love each other so much and yet are so bad at not hurting each other.
And then everyone except Jiang Cheng keep dying."
"omg. the parents are a somewhat arranged marriage and the dad was in love with some other woman and adopted her kid after she died, and his wife knows this and is insanely jealous because she knows the dad 1. doesn't love her and 2. loves his adopted kid more than his actual biological son. rumors fly around about dad's supposed infidelity. mom is verbally and emotionally abusive to the kids and dad is fairly passive in its face. the adopted son is treated as a brother to the heir of the sect (they are also a political family) and also as a servant, creating a deeply dysfunctional dynamic in which the adopted kid struggles to navigate an impossible set of expected roles. he wants please the mom (who hates him and punishes him for the smallest mistake, including being better than her bio son at things), get parental love from the dad (who favors him and makes him feel guilty for being loved more than the bio son is) without upsetting his adopted brother (who is deeply insecure because he knows his dad doesn't like him and the favored adopted brother is a genius who is better at him than anything). every family meal is a battleground. nothing gets done and everyone conforms themselves into shapes the others will approve of, except the mom who lashes out in bitterness and rage at everything.
before going to defend their home from an attack that led directly to their deaths, the parents messed up their children one final time. the mom said that the attack was adopted boy's fault and that she hates him, prompting him to sacrifice his life for the biological son in several tragic and avoidable ways.the dad likewise told adopted boy to be the protector of his bio kids, pushing adopted boy back into a servant role when he was also a traumatized child reeling . there's also an older sister in there but she's ignored by half the fanbase and her parents, usually. as we can imagine she's heavily parentified because her parents are useless. as adults the brothers are almost completely estranged because their sister died and one of them tried to kill the other one for it and their relationship was maintained by her anger translation. in a series spanning 25+ years, almost all the many issues in the mc (adopted boy) and his brother can be directly traced back to his parents' behavior. also bio son is homophobic to adopted son but that is relatively low on the list of ways their relationship is bad. he intentionally triggers him with his worst fear once he comes back from the dead. most insane family I have ever seen in fiction"

MDZS thoughts (well one thought but you get the idea)
Why is there a tag on Ao3 called "Wei Wuxian isn't Adopted by the Jiangs" when canonically he wasn't? He was a disciple of the Yunmeng Jiang and the ward of Jiang Fengmian, but being a ward is different than being adopted into the family. Of course, people can say he was adopted by the siblings with them calling him their brother but officially, the ones holding that kind of authority are Jiang Fengmian and Yu Ziyuan. Which we know the latter's opinion on the matter.
The whole reason why Wei Wuxian's position in Yunmeng Jiang is so contentious is because he wasn't adopted into the family yet is given the mostly the same rights and living accomodations as the Jiang children. The way he's treated is also very confusing. One moment he's treated like a son, a brother then the next he's the son of a servant or merely another disciple.
I believe the better phrasing for that tag is "Wei Wuxian Isn't A Yunmeng Jiang Disciple". But that's just my two cents on a nitpick of mine.

Recently, I've been thinking about the post I saw drawing a comparison between Nie Huaisang and Wei Wuxian's refusal to carry a sword. And like... it's really interesting. So we have Nie Huaisang, who makes no bones about how he doesn't want to carry his sabre from childhood. He does his best to avoid training. He doesn't care that people call him weak and treat him like he is lesser because he has a mediocre core and doesn't tote a sabre around. Yes, his brother gets extremely irritated because of this, but ultimately he is the son of one of the great sects. Everyone just accepts that sometimes a young master just isn't going to be good at the things he should be. Wei Wuxian, on the other hand, is given the Head Disciple title at a pretty young age (the youngest if I remember right). He is considered a prodigy, very strong. He has a brilliant mind and a strong core from a young age and people know it. He hasn't rejected his duties since childhood. He isn't the son of a great sect, his position is ambiguous, since he is treated like the brother of the heir and the young mistress of the clan. But he isn't officially adopted. He doesn't have the name. He makes his own name by being strong and charismatic. And then something changes, no one knows what, and suddenly he isn't carrying Suibian, the sword that he clearly was proud of and enjoyed carrying before he disappeared. He doesn't let anyone know about his core, he just suddenly appears, not carrying a sword but still strong and fighting. So people assume he is being arrogant, that he has decided to flout tradition, just because he feels like it, because that is what he tells them. He withdraws from everyone, especially the people he loved the most. It is suspicious and confusing. And he doesn't offer any reasons. He lets people think what they want, because he cannot make himself say: I lost my core and cannot carry my sword anymore. They are at war, his home sect is in tatters, everyone is barely holding on. What would happen if one of their strongest fighters, who does what needs to be done, no matter the cost to himself, exposed that weakness? He cannot do that. So he lets them think what they will, which means that they think the worst of him. It is the waste of the talent, the hubris of flouting their traditions as a servant, a servant who has surpassed a good many of them. A servant who was a significant part of how they won the war. A servant with the confusing status of being considered a brother of the Jiang siblings, but no actual legal or much social standing in that role. That is what makes them turn on Wei Wuxian. It is a terrible flaw in the cultivation society. But that is just my take.
I am not Chinese, I have not studied the culture. I am just thinking about it from my perspective.

Flowers Blooming
by Ilona22
M, 35k, Wangxian
Part of the MXTX Epic Journeys Big Bang
Summary: At the coast, there is a city where they say the most beautiful of flowers live. Among them, one shines for many reasons. Wei Ying is orphaned when he is four years old. Unlike in another world, he does not have to wait years to be found by his father’s martial brother. Instead, he is found by a woman looking for a child to love. From that, he grows up differently. Some things are changed. Other matters are not influenced by the absence of one child. And yet others were written in the stars long ago. Kay's comments: A lovely canon-divergence story where Wei Wuxian gets adopted by commeners before Jiang Fengmian can find him. He still manages to grow into a formidable cultivator, but he also gains other talenst and a whole family! And when the Sunshot Campaign breaks out, he also meets Lan Wangji and of course, they fall in love. Really enjoyed how this story breathed life into the world outside of the gentry sects and expanded on the world-building of MDZS. With beautiful fanart by @krynnibear Excerpt: “We owe gratitude to that cultivator then. Do we know his name?” Lan Qiren asked. “No, they described him as very young, about Wangji’s age. Dressed in grey and a colorful underlayer, archer’s bracers,” she reported. Lan Wangji was interested, there were not many cultivators his age who could have successfully taken on all those ghouls. And from what Lan Lin reported, he had not taken money from the women in the teahouse, either. He sounded kind, and very skilled with talisman craft. It might just have been the way the tale was passed on, but some of those described did not sound like the standard talismans. “There have been reports of a cultivator of this description in several places,” Lan Mingchen remarked, telling them what he knew. There was no discernible pattern to the cultivator’s movements. Odd, as most rogue cultivators moved along trade roads, or in a fixed area. But all the tales added to the picture of a young man willing to help even without a big reward. Lan Wangji hoped he would be able to met him one day.
pov alternating, canon divergence, wei wuxian isn't adopted by the jiangs, rogue cultivator wei wuxian, inventor wei wuxian, genius wei wuxian, different first meeting, sunshot campaign, slow burn, falling in love, coming of age, getting to knew each other, strangers to lovers, families of choice, happy ending, cultivation sect politics, supportive lan xichen, supportive lan qiren, fanart

Fic Finder
~*~
1. Hi, me again!! Returning to your amazing site!! I hope you can help me find this fic!! I'm looking for a fic where WWX doesn't die in his first life, but he ends up in a paperman and in Yummeng they have to find a way to returning him to his body!! Please help!! Be well :) @monicaop21
NOT FOUND! 🧡 a paper friend by soft_wanning (G, 4k, WangXian, Canon Divergence, Fluff, Paperman!WWX, Identity Porn, Meet-Cute, Different First Meeting) I'm not sure this is right but I'd thought I'd mention it just in case - Mod C
I remember this one but can't find it! Iirc, WWX was in a coma in Lotus Pier, but the rest of the cultivation world was told he was dead. Can't remember how his spirit ended up in a paperman, but all the Lotus Pier people knew, and eventually LWJ figured it out when he was visiting for a cultivation conference or something. I think they were trying to figure out how to get WWX back into his body when MXY did his ritual and WWXs spirit was pulled out of the paperman and everyone freaked out that he'd died for real this time
FOUND!🔒 something like by silversshadow (T, 69k, WangXian, XuanLi, SongXiao, Canon Divergence, Everyone Lives/Nobody Dies, Temporary Character Death)

2. Hi!! Thank you for all your hardwork here.
I was looking for this fic where Wei Wuxian doesn't get adopted by the Jiangs.( I'm not sure if it was because he retained his memories of his earlier life.) Anyway... he gets the Dafan Wens at Yiling and closes Yiling with a barrier that no one can break through.
At some point Lan Wangji comes by and meets Wei Wuxian and there's a little bit of an identity crisis happening because Wuxian doesn't want to tell Wangji who he is but the smart Lan figures it out (I think lol) Also the war happens (again not so sure) but anyway all the sects comes to ask for refuge at Yiling.
The part I remember really well is where The Jiangs come by boat and Yu furen is her usual self with her condescending attitude.
I also remember a section where, towards the beginning, Wuxian actually cures the Burial mounds and like the entire village just loves him and takes care of him because he's such an angel.
Please find this for me cuz I went through 115 pages in my history and still couldn't find it. @poetic-writes

3. hiii for the next FF I’m looking for a modern wangxian fic where wy is a toymaker and LZ is a writer and single father to lsz. It’s largely comfort where wy reintroduces LZ to the magic of imagination I think and idk if it’s only where i stopped but the most recent scene was lz’s mother being stuck in the hospital. I also rmb that wy couldn’t leave the toy shop for long. @crazy-gay-killxr

4. Hi!! Thanks for your work, I have been looking for a fic I read I while ago. It is a MDZSxTGCF crossover, it starts with Wei Ying arriving to ghost city after his death and Hualian finding him (I'm pretty sure he calls Xie Lian an angel at some point). Some time later, Lan Zhan travels to the ghost city to find Wei Ying, he doesn't find him but Hua Cheng lent him some luck so they can reunite soon.
Thank again for everything!!! @jesuqueso

5. hi! im looking for a fic where the juniors of lotus pier think wwx gives the worst punishment. in reality, wwx just deliveres them to the most appropriate adult to deal with it. like if the best punishment would be "im not mad just disappointed" lecture, then he'll drop the kids off to jaing yanli or if they need handstands then to lan wangji and so on.. but wwx himself rarely punished them and somehow the juniors came to the conclusion that he must give out the worst punishment
this was just a small scene from a long fic. not even related to plot, i think this scene was towards the end. @mumblerovertmblr
FOUND! I'm pretty sure 5 is And Time Is But a Paper Moon by sami (M, 139k, WangXian, XiChengQing, Time Travel, Fix-It, Everyone Lives/Nobody Dies, Healing, Mental Health Issues, PTSD, Hurt/Comfort, Depression, BAMF WWX, BAMF JC, BAMF LWJ, BAMF JYL, Getting Together) or one of its sequels / yes like previouly said, it is in And Time Is But A Paper Moon by sami, in chapter 20!

6. For the next Fic Finder – I was looking for a fic to suggest for an ITMF request, but I can’t find it! It’s a modern AU, where LQR suggests a marriage between JYL and LWJ (after a scandal with JGS comes to light, making JZX a bad option even though JYL still wants to marry him). But LWJ and WWX are already secretly dating, so WWX chaperones JYL and LWJ on a “date” where they finally tell her they are together, and then go about telling the rest of their family through the rest of the fic. @eorlgreylady
FOUND! I think 6 is A Sequence of coming out by kippalittlefox, but it seems to be deleted.
~*~
7. What I remember from it is that WWX was in the bath before some people broke into the jingshi and held him hostage when LWJ got back. He had a string to his throat, or a knife not fully sure. After the guys that broke in were killed and it was like the next day, JC came by and the three of them started talking in the middle of CR so that the others would know that LWJ killed the men because they tried to kill his husband and if they wanted to see the scar left across WWX's throat.
This part was at the end of it, but I don't remember it being long. Don't really remember honestly
FOUND! sounds like No journey is too long by dea_liberty (M, 12k, wangxian, Post-Canon, Found Families, Epilogue, Happy Ending, Some angst, a lot of feelings, WWX has some PTSD to deal with, Minor Violence) the last in a five-part post canon series. The incident takes place in an inn, not the Jingshi, but other details match

8. Hi! I’m kinda desperate now.
I’m looking for a fic where a-yuan or I think OC child is wwx and lwj biological child. I remember there is a chapter wherein before dying (due to canon stuff), wwx confessed to lwj that they had a child together. Then wwx died and I think they search for for the child (I forgot who saw the child but I sure it is either lxc or lwj)
I really appreciate it if you help me😭

9. Hey! I'm looking for a fic I've read once but can't seem to find it anymore.
It was a modern Wangxian au where LWJ is a motorbike racer and WWX is a single parent to A-Yuan. LWJ sees WWX on the street as he drives by and circles back just to ask him out on a date. Incredibly sweet fic and I would like to read it again.
Thank you! 😘 @lucica-stuff

10. There's a long modern au where lwj and lxc are art agents or something and wwx is an artist. But the main thing of the fic is that wwx hears from mxy that lwj FUCKS and might have a spreadsheet for it. This turns wwxs world upside down cause lwj is his best friend and he'd never known this. Then there's pining. Wwx painting a triptych, pining while fucking and finally the two idiots talk. There was also a b side version from lwjs pov. I cannot find this fic now. Help.
FOUND! show me a quiver, give me tonight by spookykingdomstarlight (E, 115k, wangxian, lwj/others, communication failure, mutual pining, artists, demisexual wwx, angst w/ happy ending)

11. hello! i need help looking for a fic please 🙏🏻
i remember a lot but these are the important bits: modern au, wwx & lwj used to be classmates, nhs finally convinced wwx to confess his feelings for lwj, and when he did (in public, blurting out loud cause he was VERY nervous), lwj thought it was a prank, got angry and rejected wwx. wwx was devastated, nhs felt guilty, planned to drink & then met wen xu. wwx and wen xu get together, but wwx ran away (?) with wx. he was actually in an abusive & manipulative relationship with wx. then wwx adopts wen yuan and he fled with wy. years later, wwx owns a cafe, wy is a teen and they accidentally meet lwj again at the cafe. the junior ensemble is there, things happen and wx finds wwx but there is a happy ending.
i have TRIED looking for it myself but to no avail. (This part added to an itmf)

13. Hi can you guys help me find a fic? It was a modern au; it was about Lwj slowly realizing the Jiangs neglect Wwx or something along those lines. A) it's a short one I believe? Where nie huaisang kinda drags wwx with him to the past and wwx was livid (wwx chocked nhs or something), the scene happened in front alot of ppl .
B) I've read multiple like this one can't remember the exact one but it's where wwx was actually female, and hid her true ID from the jinags, and was discovered by the Lans or something
C) it's similar to b but I remember this scene it was an established Relationship post canon? Where wwx got her og body back after being resurrected by male mxy

I’m trying to find a modern AU fic where the Lans still run a school, and in the backstory, WWX did something, got expelled over it (can’t remember why, it’s either punching JZX or messing with LWJ) and after being sent home, Madam Yu disowned him and threw him out of the house. There was also a mention that LQR was horrified, because the other times he expelled someone, they simply petitioned to be readmitted to the school and he was expecting that to happen with WWX.
Unfortunately that’s all I remember. Any ideas help!

Hello, i just wanna ask what do you think of the manhua JC? dont get me wrong but there scenes that i haven't read in the novel that were shown in manhua even briefly. For example, that JC hugging his puppies. While it was outrightly said that he did have dogs that were sent out after WWX came to lotus cove, I don't really think he was that emotionally attached to them considering how fast he changed his mind. Those little panels of things that were probably implied makes a lot JC delulu stans make him more uwu. While i dont think that child JC is that bad, he is a child for one thet throw tantrums. Even teenage JC is redeemable probably since he was not that bad yet, but i just dont get how they justify him being secretly uwu kind etc whatever it is a positive trait because of his innocent? past self. isn't it ironic how WWX said that JC didn't change at all in the 13 years he was dead, implying he is still immature and the same as ever. I also dont get the part where somehow someone who has such personality is becoming likable to many people, changing his character to fit their description. A few others, i dont really remember but im sure ive seen some, who have evidence of their claim that are too weak to support and does not give the whole picture. As someone who likes JC's patheticness, this is so bizarre to me that i dont really want to involve myself in tiktok or twt. sorry for the long rant, have a great day!
Hello there, Anon.
To be honest, I don't particularly pay any attention to mdzs manhua aside from simping its WangXian moments, lol. Like, my only basis is the original, mdzs novel, whereas other adaptations are just entertainment. And for entertainment, obviously I will only focus on WangXian.
So far, among the other adaptations, mdzs manhua is the closest to canon. Even then, there are things that were changed due to various factors, such as to shorten the lengthy original content or to add more humor, which is common in comic, manga, or manhua.
I mean, things about softening the characters in the manhua was not only done toward JC as far as I know. We saw how Lan Qiren being pretty much drawn like a comedic relief. Even Su She moments in the Second Siege was also drawn in quite a funny way, that makes us the readers find it hard to really immerse ourselves in the severity of the incident, in fact.
Is that a good or bad thing? That depends. For entertainment, mdzs manhua is really good, both from content and arts. Just don't take them as canon material or meta material, since there has been changes due to various consideration. And when things change, it's not Original anymore🙃
The fact I have Twitter just to use the username to login on other websites, and the fact that I don't own TikTok at all, makes me unqualified to say things about mdzs fandom on Twitter or TikTok, lol. I'm sorry, Anon. Honestly, aside from Tumblr and Lofter, I don't really engage in mdzs fandom on other platform...?
But characters with pet attribute generally spark more interest with fans. Just like how WangXian and rabbits and Lil Apple are. Canonically, kid-JC is indeed fond of dogs (puppies or adult dogs I don't know).
Though, whether this fondness is a long lasting fondness is a question. Because after Wei Wuxian left YMJ he didn't try to own any dog. Some fans take it as JC being loyal to WWX, like, he was waiting for him to come back, etc. But, another fact is that, if he is still fond of dog but didn't want to own it due to WWX, then why wasn't he the one who give the dog to Jin Ling? Isn't he supposed to be the best Uncle for Jin Ling?
My headcanon is that, the adult JC likes dog, but not particularly fond of it like how other Dog lovers are. It's like how most people are enthusiastic when they saw stray cats, but that's it, most people won't dedicate themselves to adopt them, gave them foods, or help them. Most people just "like" But not fond enough to dedicate their life for pets. And so is Jiang Cheng toward Dogs.

ahhhh this is a SOUP of old and new-ish ideas on a cql ancillary-ish AU
unedited first draft below:
--
"I don't like that you're here," Wen Qing tells the young woman sitting across from her. "But I'm not about to chase you out, either. And no matter what, I am a doctor."
"Then my brother -?"
Jiang Yanli finds one of his hands and pulls it towards her - it threatens to slip out of her damp, shaky grip. Wen Qing reaches over, her movements nonchalant and professional, and takes his pulse on the other wrist. "Steady and strong," she says. It's almost healthy, artificially lowered by a sedative patch from the frenzied gallop he'd woken up with. He'd tried to attack her. She's safe in using what amounts to a ridiculous lie if one thinks past the current five minutes, the traumatic past and the sure-to-be-violent future. But Jiang Yanli isn't thinking about that right now.
"Can I grab something for a migraine when you're done?" the Jiangs' companion - bodyguard? - butts in. He crinkles his nose and shoots Wen Qing a doleful look in the span of about three seconds. "The barometer drop has been really terrible on my nerves."
"I'll write something up - go outside, he'll fill it for you." She slants her eyebrows on outside, the most tact she can manage right now. She thinks she's got the young lady Jiang more or less handled; she hasn't had much time to get the measure of this Wei Wuxian.
She keeps her fingers on Jiang Wanyin's wrist absent-mindedly and loads her brush using her other hand. (Spiritual pulse: in far worse shape. A struggling, creeping trickle.) Writes the scrip from easy memory. (Meridians: fresh scarring, knots where heart-devils are apt to form. That is, if they don't narrow and collapse completely on themselves first.) Sets the brush back down on its support and waves the paper in the air to dry. As surely as if it's a battle flag, this draws Wei Wuxian back inside from the porch; in his wake is her brother.
"Wen Ning, let me help you, please, I'm going stir-crazy," Wei Wuxian says, as if he's talking to a human and not a Southern Zenith Pacification Unit.
The Peace Unit murmurs back something Wen Qing can't hear. A heavy creak as one metal-reinforced cyborg and one human beanpole step into the pharmacy.
Fuck. Well, he probably has sense enough not to poison her. They all know Jiang Wanyin won't stabilize without her help. If he gets away with something to sell or barter she'll just have to eat the loss rather than confront him and provoke a stupid reaction. It would mean having to sit down with A-Ning (after this whole Jiang business is over, however it ends) and teach him about - shit, she hasn't even taught him the basics of how to spot a thief yet, has she? What a headache.
--
setup stuff: wen qing made wen ning into what he is on her operating table - she'd be a tech medic in ancillary justice - but the process went wrong, (that's A Person in there, they've all only ever been people under your tools), that was the last straw, so she grabbed him and defected. they kind of violently adopted each other as siblings. i'm trying to come up with a matching ironic englishism of her name-pun - clemency? mercy? for the organization or project or something she belonged to.
"southern zenith" might get a better name later but it's bc the wen's vermilion bird's cardinal direction is south.
wen ning has logos etched into several internal components (with apologies to murderbot diaries) that wei wuxian will painstakingly remove for him.

Like it was yesterday
Warnings: angst, mentions of past physical abuse, violence
This is part 1 of 2! Special thanks to @sasukimimochi for helping me with the title for this piece <3
See you on part 2!
The first strike pulls the breath out of him, the second hurts like he's being seared into with hot iron.
The third feels familiar.
If he tries hard enough - which isn't hard at all - he almost sees the shape of Madam Yu's shoes and the lace sewn into the end of her robes moving before his kneeling form as she prepares for the next strike.
It's difficult to say how that makes him feel.
The Lan discipline whip hurts both less and more than Zidian used to. Wei Wuxian can't decide which it is. Perhaps there is no difference, after all.
He's hated this punishment more than any other. He could happily take anything, knowing it would end and he'd forget it quickly, like he did most things like that.
Whip wounds aren't forgettable.
Even if his golden core healed them.
All Wei Wuxian has ever wanted was a family. A place of his own, a handful of people to love and to love him in return.
He has not found that in his youth. Not with the Jiang family, and only painfully temporarily with the Wens.
He had foolishly thought his home had been meant to be the Cloud Recesses, with the Lan. With his husband, and their son, and their many unofficially adopted juniors - and, with time, the rest of the clan.
The discipline whip strikes cruelly against Wei Wuxian's back and he realizes he has been wrong to think that.
Perhaps he is just not meant to have a family at all. He doesn't fit, he's always wrong, too loud, too troublesome, too much.
And despite all that, not enough still.
By the time the whip lands down on his body a fifth time, Wei Wuxian can no longer hold in a soft, pained sound, a muffled whimper barely escaping his lips.
He has learned not to voice out his pain - Madam Yu used to hate it, said he had no reason to cry or scream because he was only receiving the consequences of his actions. She became angrier if he let out any sounds, and endeavored to make it hurt more just so he would have a "real reason" to scream about.
And so, Wei Wuxian learned to endure pain soundlessly, and only let himself voice it out when it became unbearable.
He had screamed his throat raw as he lived his first wretched days in the Burial Mounds - and again when Jiang Yanli died.
He won't scream like that now - it doesn't hurt nearly as much as those did. Or perhaps it's the familiarity of it.
But this isn't his first body, used to the abuse to the point of desensitization.
So when a second whimper escapes him, it surprises Wei Wuxian more than the pain of the whip beating down against his back.
Are they being more vicious or is he that weak now?
Regardless, at least he is used to this. If it has been, Heavens forbid, A-Yuan or Jingyi... they're so young and fragile, how could they have taken this themselves? At least Wei Wuxian can handle it. And he can handle the knowledge of it.
He wouldn't have been able to live knowing his children had been punished so heartlessly because of him, to accept that their skin would forever be marked with scars of Wei Wuxian's own failures.
Perhaps that's why he hasn't fainted yet, why he hasn't died yet. The knowledge that he's saving the little ones from a fate like this is like a healing balm, a barrier between Wei Wuxian and the pain that bites into him the more the whip slashes into his flesh.
He thinks, fleetingly, his vision blurring with the bloodloss, of Lan Zhan. Of how he took this 33 times for Wei Wuxian, of how much it must have hurt him, of how he would have stubbornly refused to make a sound.
If he could have, if he had known, Wei Wuxian would have taken the punishment in his place just like he is doing right now in place of the children.
And it would have killed him, of course, but back then, he was dying anyway - and at least nobody would have been marked because of him.
Nobody else would have had to suffer because of him, after so many people already had.
Perhaps all this is retribution for that, too. Perhaps dying had not been enough.
All Wei Wuxian regrets is that he hadn't known - hadn't known the last time he saw his husband had been the last. He would have cherished it so much more, soaked up his warmth and scent and affection so much greedier.
He never got to do that the first time he died either.
And he knows he is dying, because just like back then, before he passed, he saw Lan Wangji's image walking in the distance - and had no power to tell him his last three words before the world faded and he faded with it.
---
Lan Wangji draws his sword with a violent gesture as he runs to the ancestral hall. Spiritual energy runs off the blade like flames, bright like an earth-bound sun, scorching the air. There is so much hatred in his eyes that his pupils drown in it, and when the guarding disciples see him, they flee like cowards to save their lives.
Lan Wangji breaks the doors off their hinges as he bursts through, the sound deafening.
For a moment, all he sees is targets. Cattle to be slaughtered.
Then, he sees his uncle.
And, laying on the ground, kneeling on the floor that should have been marble white, a motionless Wei Wuxian.
Lan Qiren screams out something but Lan Wangji does not hear it.
A fury of spiritual energy swirls around the room all of a sudden, like a birthing hurricane, and once again, Lan Wangji sees nothing but targets.
But he does not care about them.
All he cares about is the love of his life, slumped over, his back a gory mess of skin and blood, drained of color, perhaps even of life.
If they killed Wei Ying, Lan Wangji is going to kill all of them in retribution - and then he is going to kill himself. He will not live in a world where Wei Ying is once again a name without a voice, a body, a soul - even more so if his own family had been the ones to take Wei Ying from him.
Carefully, with shaking hands and tearful eyes, Lan Wangji checks for a pulse.
There is none.
But Wei Ying is not dead.
Thin wisps of resentful energy crawl up his body, disappearing into his skin, and Lan Wangji feels the way they move like qi in his husband's meridians.
They swirl around the dying golden core in his body as if to bring it back to life, and they weave around the wounds of his back like bandages.
Lan Wangji feels the faintest warmth of a breath against his neck, a twitch of a hand.
Wei Ying's heart remains still.
But he is breathing now, regularly, and, though cold, his hand is holding Lan Wangji's with resolve.
Lan Wangji calms, and so does the burst of spiritual energy that's wrecked through the ancestral hall.
But when Wei Ying finally opens his eyes, they're not his own.
