Day 154, this time we venture into the ruins of a Mayan temple. I do love the idea of nature taking over old buildings do I placed a tree on top of this old temple. Rather atmospheric in my opinion!

Did a some of leaf practice because I had never painted leaves in watercolour before (I think it's really obvious what my first attempt was, and by which point I lost my patience haha!) and halfway through found a better reason why-- I think I want to paint the Elessar based on these descriptions I'm just very fond of:

"a jewel-smith named Enerdhil, the greatest of that craft among the Noldor after the death of Fëanor. Enerdhil loved all green things that grew, and his greatest joy was to see the sunlight through the leaves of trees."

Also "And it came into his heart to make a jewel within which the clear light of the sun should be imprisoned, but the jewel should be green as leaves."

Sunlight through leaves happens to be one of the those things I can happily spend hours watching, so obviously I'm fond (also-- the supremely ephemeral; moving changing light through growing changing leaves, not a moment the same-- made into the permanent and still- -a stone-- while preseving its living qualities! What an idea. I love). Anyway, I want to figure out a way to paint a stone that looks like it has moving leaves with sun behind them in it. Vague leaf-shapes, I suppose? I'll figure it out.
