Personal Gnosis is a very important aspect of spirit and entity work and is heavily based on personal experience and research. You may hear practitioners speak on "SPGs" and "UPGs"; a "personal gnosis" is a personal 'fact' about a deity, spirit or entity; it may be their accent or their personality or the offerings they enjoy or something else. It is quite simply a personal 'fact' about this deity, spirit or entity that the practitioner knows through interaction rather than through mythology or lore or speaking with other practitioners.
The slightly confusing (but also kind of cool) aspect is that these facts don't have to be seen as 'true' by EVERY practitioner who works with that deity, spirit or entity and it'll still be completely valid (as long as it's not completely removing the spirit, entity or deity from their source)
UPG - Unverified Personal Gnosis.
An Unverified Personal Gnosis is a 'fact' about a deity, spirit or entity that a practitioner knows to be true that may only apply to that one specific practitioner (according to them at least). An example, to help explain, may be that Lucifer appears to practitioner A as having white hair and a Floridian accent, to Practitioner A that is a fact, and no-one has any right or place to tell them otherwise. However Lucifer may appear to other practitioners as having other accents (like an Italian accent) and different coloured hair, the length might differ too! It is an "unverified personal gnosis" because it only applies to that one, unique, deity/practitioner relationship and might not necessarily be mentioned in their source myth.
SPG - Shared Personal Gnosis
Now slightly different to a UPG - this is a fact about a deity, spirit or entity that applies across multiple deity/practitioner relationships, its something multiple practitioners view as fact. Following our Lucifer example: Lucifer may appear to multiple practitioners as having long, dark hair and commonly wearing a leather jacket; because multiple practitioners can "confirm" it, that's what makes it an SPG. However, SPGs do not necessarily (have to) apply to EVERY deity/practitioner relationship—so while practitioners B, C, D and E all see Lucifer as "tall, dark haired and handsome", practitioner A may still see him as a white haired surfer—neither is "wrong" or "fake" and SPGs are in no way "better" or "more correct" than UPGs just because it's a shared 'fact'.
VPG - Verified Personal Gnosis.
Unlike UPG and SPG, Verified Personal Gnosis CAN be verified by the deity, spirit or entity's source myth. For instance Artemis being associated with bees is a verified personal gnosis.
How can this work?
It is important to remember that deities and most spirits and entities, do not abide by human laws—they can sound and appear to practitioners however they please, they are not bound to one physicality, nor one 'role' - they may appear parental or formal to some and friendly and casual to others! Deities and most spirits and entities are multifaceted Beings meaning they have many "faces" and it's one of the reasons why they appear differently to different practitioners.
It is VERY important that you mention whether something you share is UPG/SPG because it can be very confusing especially to beginner practitioners
Lore vs UPGs
Mythology and Lore is one of the few ways we can accurately research a deity, spirit or entity, and important points about them will be true - Goddess Sif will appear will golden hair, God Hephaestus will appear disabled - these are physical traits that are key to who they are and their stories, so while Hephaestus may change his hair or face shape - he will almost certainly appear with leg braces to some practitioners or with a cane or support of some sort. This applies more to personality as well, and can somewhat help you identify whether someone is not necessarily being honest about an interaction they had with a deity, spirit or entity—For instance it would be extremely rare for King Haides to view someone as "more than" Queen Persephone (we've all seen the tiktoks), God Apollon to be driving the sun chariot because no where in accurate and true Greek myth does it mention Apollon replacing Helios, and GoddessHekate will never help to harm or curse children (this videos have been see too)etc. While UPGs are valid and should always be respected - they usually align within a deity, spirit or entity's recorded mythology or lore.
Note: No practitioner can accurately determine another practitioner's relationship with a deity, spirit or entity as fake, because that's just not how it works—however if someone speaks about their interactions with a spirit, entity or deity and it vastly differs from their mythology or lore or just doesn't sound that believable, I would be wary. This can also help you recognise tricksters (if tricksters are apart of your belief system)!

UPG, SPG, VPG ❁ཻུ۪۪ ━

In this discussion, we will delve into the contrasting aspects of UPG (Unverified Personal Gnosis), SPG (Shared Personal Gnosis), and VPG (Verified Personal Gnosis). We will explore why these terms are frequently referenced and their significance in shaping our spiritual journeys. Let's begin.
Tumblr media
𖤣𖥧˚ UPG - Unverified Personal Gnosis
UPG stands for Unverified Personal Gnosis. It refers to personal spiritual or religious insights, beliefs, or experiences that are unique to an individual and their practices.
UPG is subjective in nature and cannot be objectively proven or verified by external sources. It encompasses exploring the characteristics of deities in mythology and discerning how they might engage with individuals who demonstrate interest in them. It is based on personal intuition, revelation, or interpretation of spiritual or divine guidance. Individuals may rely on UPG to form their own understanding and practices within their spiritual or religious framework. Our experiences are personal and there is no correct nor wrong way on how we may view something.
Please avoid asserting your UPG (Unverified Personal Gnosis) as universally verified or as the sole path to follow. It's important to recognize that your personal experiences may not be universally applicable or linked to specific deities or entities.
Tumblr media
𖤣𖥧˚ SPG - Shared Personal Gnosis
SPG stands for Shared Personal Gnosis. It represents personal spiritual or religious experiences, insights, or beliefs that are not limited to an individual but are shared by a community or a group of like-minded individuals.
SPG arises when multiple individuals report similar or parallel experiences, affirming the validity and significance of those experiences within the community. While SPG is still subjective and unverifiable by objective means, it carries a communal aspect that fosters a sense of connection, validation, and collective understanding among its participants.
Shared personal gnosis, like UPG, has drawbacks, primarily affecting those who partake in it. It can foster groupthink and stifle dissenting viewpoints, akin to cliques. Additionally, it lacks verification and is subjective, potentially fueling conflicts, misunderstandings, or even delusions.
Tumblr media
𖤣𖥧˚ VPG - Verified Personal Gnosis
VPG stands for Verified Personal Gnosis. It refers to personal spiritual or religious experiences, insights, or beliefs that have been validated or confirmed through external sources or means. Unlike UPG, which is subjective and based on personal interpretation, VPG incorporates an element of external verification.
This verification can come in various forms, such as historical evidence, scholarly research, corroborating accounts from others, or alignment with established spiritual or religious traditions. VPG carries a higher degree of credibility and is often regarded as more reliable due to its alignment with external sources of validation. It signifies a personal understanding or revelation that has been confirmed or supported by external factors beyond individual interpretation.

Yo bestie I need advice.
What happens when I find someone else who is very much NOT a witch who correctly identified that I have a Loki happening??? And then we talked and figured out we both have the exact same way of sensing this shit??? And neither of us have ever heard of this being A Thing??? Help???
So to be pagan doesn't always mean being a witch. Just because they work with Loki and experience Loki's presence doesn't mean witchcraft is involved in the particular way they worship.
What you are both experiencing is a SPG (shared personal gnosis). Many of us have UPG (unverified personal gnosis), at least to some extent, when it comes to the deities we worship. These are things we experience or believe about the deities we work with, without it ever being historically verified. A VPG (verified personal gnosis) is when you have a personal gnosis that you CAN back historically. Simply what has happened is that you both have a UPG that you can verify with each other, and say "this is CLASSIC LOKI BEHAVIOR", thus making it an SPG.
ALWAYS cool when you find an SPG.
I'd read up on UPG, SPG, and VPG when you can. Interesting stuff, totally valid, and awesome when you meet peeps who share your UPG!

Keep on posting on the less known, woshipped, Gods and spirits.
Keep your Upg Vpg, if there are and Spg going.
I know it might seem very sad when your post has less likes and interaction but I can assure you, each and every post is precious!
Take my example, I'm looking forward to research (and then work with, in some cases) Zagreus, Styx, Nyx to name it a few that I'm curious about, I'm quite aware people might brush off what I will write, but you will read it anyway! 🌟

Can you explain the “Seeker” phenomenon and why it’s bad? I can understand when Gnosis is separated into Unverified and Verified people would naturally seek to see if theirs can be Verified.
But it sounds like this has a nasty history of capitalistic exploitation so now I am more curious about the effects it’s had, and how it related to the UPG and VPG concepts
The thing beneath the whole Seeker phenomenon that has always stuck out to me is it's deeply Christian assumptions about things like fate and guilt and truth.
They're largely people who were raised Christian, or in a very Christian environment, and broke away for whatever reason. These are people who were raised to understand religion as something that could be done Correctly or Incorrectly. These are people who see spirituality as a process of trying to "seek out" the "correct" mythology to believe in.
Underneath all of the New Age, and seekers in general, is the idea that somewhere out there, there exists a True Religion; a universally correct, perfectly verifiable, un-challengeable form of spirituality, that just needs to be discovered.
My problem, personally, is not with the idea of people wanting to Verify their Gnosis, but with how these specific types of people understand a concept as complex as "trying to discuss the religious implications of a near-death experience."
Under the right circumstances, the mind can do some pretty incredible things. But I feel like it would be arrogant of me to claim that the things I've experienced were somehow an expression of some deep metaphysical truth. I'm no closer to Capital T Truth than a priest or a rabbi or an imam just because I've had some ritually induced waking dreams.

UPG terms and its problems
This is a bit of a rant.
To start off with I actually really dislike the term UPG, SPG, VPG. These terms are also a recent phenomenon. I do understand why people use it and it can be helpful in some cases. However It kind of puts an unwarranted onus on needing to prove or validate our experiences and gnosis; as though it isn’t good enough or valid- unless others can verify it. This simply is not the case.
Given the vastness of the realms and experiences and the differing paradigms and individual energies (and how those energies interact with things)- it is not all that likely that others will experience the same things that you do. This does not mean that your experience isn’t real and important; even if its to yourself. This is why I prefer the term Gnosis; there isn’t this “proving its true” or “has to be right” energy attached to it. I also find the terms actually quite diminishing and qualitative in the long run as well. I do think it comes from a bit more of a scientific evidence based emphasis on needing to prove things, and again while it can be helpful sometimes; it is also rather limiting to expect spiritual experiences to be able to be “proven.” -otherwise they aren’t “real” or “valid”. Also for this what counts as verified?- just because some other people may agree with it or have experienced something similar? And what “qualifies” them to be able to do so- do they need to be on the same path?, have a similar understanding or paradigm? The same experiences? The emphasis on things needing to be validated/verified also can lead to some people being reluctant to share things because it isn’t validated by a wider community. I do feel this emphasis also leads to an idea of sameness and oneness- a need to be the same as someone else or united in one viewpoint- and this can lead to a diminishing “value” of the diversity of experiences. While UPG, SPG and VPG could be helpful maybe to gain a kind of beginning level understanding of different entities/beings for example- it should not stop there or be limited by what a wider community thinks is possible. This also introduces a judgement bias towards things and can add peer pressure into the mix.
I do not believe that spiritual pursuits should be so limited or subject to the idealization of “one right way” or truth- that these diminishing terms and ideas are seeming to lead towards. So much is cut off because of this.
I use the term gnosis ( also with what I discuss publically) for my experiences- because it isn't "just in my head" like UPG can sometimes suggest ( ie the idea of it being " just your imagination") . Whatever I post here has been discussed with the DL's first, and as priestess this is important to me to be giving accurate insight into things. These are lived experiences and other practitioners I know have also experienced and discussed similar viewpoints and takes. As such this is not unverified (especially since the topics and info has been either discussed with the demonic divine or channeled with soul level and the Demonic divine insight). Using the term gnosis to me also encompasses a much wider range of energies and allows for more diversity in experiences. Gnosis in and of itself its also not relegated to nor "judged" via the mind or set (mental or other) criteria either as it transcends such things. It is for me a lived experience, encompassing; energetic, soul, spirit, multi-planar, bodily and mental understandings - which cannot be simply broken down into nice neat little boxes for ease of consumption and understanding.

what does “upg” mean?
UPG stands for Unverified Personal Gnosis.
Basically, it's a shorthand way of saying, "I believe this is true due to personal reasons and personal experiences, but nobody else necessarily believes it's true - I'm okay if I'm the only one who thinks this is real."
Another term is VPG. This stands for Verified Personal Gnosis. This means, "hey, due to personal experiences I believed something is true - and when I talked to other members of my community, at least some of them agreed with me! Other people have had experiences that lead to the same beliefs, so our gnosis is Verified instead of Personal."
The final evolution of this literary pokemon is SPG, or Shared Personal Gnosis. This means, "woah - so many of us believe the same thing! Almost everywhere I go, people agree with the conclusions I've reached based on my personal experiences."
tl;dr: UPG is when you just believe stuff but you have no idea if anyone else does and you've never taken steps to try and verify it.

Look, I know y'all get mad when I call UPG "magic headcanons", but...it's a similar concept.
Headcanons are derived from a particular reading of a piece of media, though it's usually in regards to characters from it.
UPG (short for unverified personal gnosis) is derived from particular experiences or a particular reading of an entity.
Fanon is a bunch of headcanons shared by a community.
SPG is short for shared personal gnosis, which is UPG shared by a community.
Ascended fanon is fanon that becomes canon because the creators of the media in question see it and decide to incorporate it, making it canon.
VPG is verified personal gnosis, something that was originally UPG but was later discovered through research to have historical backing.
When you get into it, the terms are very similar, just slightly altered for talking about magic or religion versus pop culture. If you're a pop culture mage or pagan, then it's almost exactly the same thing (with the exception of ascended fanon versus VPG).
Now if you excuse me, I'm gonna brace myself for the rabid backlash the moment this leaves my personal circle.
