So I had to think about it a bit and uh…yeah I think because it reversed time the original deaths didn’t count. The trio don’t really mess with time other than prolonging how long everyone lives. They have no idea it even happened.

Nergal though did experience some heavy deja vu as he caused Giggles to fall off the ledge and then threw a whole ass meteor at Toothys face that second time. —Side note, this meteor was probably the size of the chelyabinsk meteor (19 meters in diameter) rather than the Chixulub meteor that Nergal wiped out the dinosaurs with (approximately 15000 meters in diameter); the one he threw at toothy was just enough to destroy toothy and the surrounding forest and cause havoc in the town, but not world ending—

Bad luck was already in motion before Splendid got there and made it worse.

Thats why Splendid is considered one of the Isles “catalyst” residents. He’s just another bit of bad luck in motion. And Nergal takes advantage of that when it happens. It’s like Nergal sets up the dominoes and the catalyst comes in to knock ‘em over. Flippy is also often used as a catalyst resident and Lumpy’s amazing mental prowess causes him to end up being one from time to time too. Predominantly full time catalysts are fairly rare on the Isles though. Splendid ignoring the cries for help that second time around didn’t save anyone, it just took away his own involvement in their deaths is all.

Also speaking of time travel, Sniffles totally went all the way back to the DinoSore days when the curse was starting. Probably not too long before the meteor hit and set the curse of the Isles in full swing.

Bitter Reunions Au/Thoughts

Stars above, does thinking about this give me fun ideas! Ah, I need an au name. Two ghosts and a dragon? Astrotech dragon? I like that one.

Jack canonically mentions to the kids he hopes Vlad has forgiven him, which means he knows Vlad blames him. So, what if there’s some elaboration in that he refused to let them visit during his hospital stay, only receiving letters, and they respected that. They sent him an invitation to their wedding, and he decided to never speak to them again out of his Vlad brand rage.

Electric vampire Vlady senses a spirit nearby but can’t find them and decides it’s best left for a later investigation. A fun lead up to a fun reveal.

Danny transforms in shock and Vlad.exe stops working for a second. They do the spider-man meme. It’s fucking wild.

Eventually getting their bearings, Vlad invites Danny into a room for a talk. He spins a tale about the vultures while a duplicate handles them. Danny mentions the portal, and Vlad tells him they should talk about it in the morning.

Vlad is absolutely livid at what Jack and Maddie have done, but he’s not alone anymore. So, he makes a new plan! After all, considering Jack’s ectoplasm exposure and emotional drive, he’d come back as a ghost anyway. Why not just humiliate him instead? A ghostly smear campaign while Vlad does his best to be the best godfather there is and possibly get into Maddie’s good graces that way.

Meanwhile Harriet Chin takes the opportunity to ask her old friends if she can interview them at their lab later. She heard in the news grapevine about the Fentons making some wildly amazing technology featured in Women’s Science magazine. They agree of course, and we set that lovely plot bunny down for later.

EO:V Paradox Edition 1

I'm trying to play through Etrian Odyssey V yet again (I've still never beaten it) and decided to go for Team Paradox because wow is my hyperfix really hyperfixing lately and just. God I forgot how stupid the turtle encounter is. Under cut for length.

For slight context, you pick which character tries to get the coin from the turtle, but you don't chose who effectively ends the event, so Vladis being the one to speak up was entirely the game's doing. I also had to cut out the choices, but for Tronno it's just picking which direction to 'attack' from and for Najash, I could have had her try to grab it, but that would've just made her lose HP, so I went right for the 'chill the fuck out' option.

As Bitcoinist was the first to report yesterday, the hearing was about the certification of the group of XRP owners suing Ripple. Lead plaintiff Vladi Zakinov, who owned XRP for just two weeks, seeks to be the lead plaintiff in the class action lawsuit. He argues that XRP is a security which has been issued by Ripple. Sostak is asking the court to form a class consisting of all XRP owners who bought and now hold XRP or who sold XRP at a loss. How The Class Action Hearing Vs. Ripple Went Down The hearing was held via Zoom and had space for 500 registrations from the public. XRP community attorney John E. Deaton, who is an amicus in the Ripple SEC case, also filed for amicus status in the Zakinov litigation. Unlike the SEC case, however, the judge assigned to the case did not allow amicus counsel to appear at oral argument. Accordingly, Deaton states about the course of the hearing: I’ve never been so frustrated in my legal career watching this zoom hearing. Mainly because I can’t speak and address the questions and issues being asked by the Judge. The problem is no one understands the tech. Remarkably, the judge stated during the hearing that she had even attended a seminar on crypto before this hearing and came out just as confused as she was before the hearing. Accordingly, the hearing can be described as very tedious and lacking in clarity. One example is the judge’s debate on whether the more than 75,000 XRP holders who support Ripple in its lawsuit against the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) can be excluded from the class action. The backdrop is that the class action would include all XRP holders around the world – even in countries where XRP has already been classified as a non-security (like in the United Kingdom). In response, Nick Spear, the lawyer for the complainant Zakinov, stated that the 75,000 XRP holders are “fake” and therefore irrelevant. Spear subsequently explained how damage calculations can be made. Nevertheless, judge Phyllis J. Hamilton replied that she is skeptical of the “worldwide class action” and explained that there is no precedent. At the beginning of 2 or 3 Things I Know About Her, we see a beautiful woman on the screen and the narrator (Jean-Luc Godard) whispers to us some things that he knows about her: that she is the actress Marina Vlady and that she is looking to the right. And yes, she is Marina Vlady, but in a moment the narrator is whispering again that she is Juliette Jeanson, which is the role Vlady is playing in the film. And yes, she is looking to the right, except that it's our right; she is looking to her left. So immediately Godard has launched us into some conundrums involving actor and role as well as subject and object. Godard will insistently whisper his comments on these and other epistemological questions throughout the film, as we watch Marina/Juliette move through a day in which Juliette takes her daughter to a very strange day care center, has her car washed, buys a dress, meets a friend, and turns a few tricks. We also watch the work at construction sites and contemplate the swirling foam on the surface of a cup of coffee. And throughout we are not only whispered to by Godard, but also hear Juliette's thoughts and the conversation of other characters on the nature and limitations of language and art and philosophy, as well as the psychic disturbance and political significance of the Vietnam War. For some, all this will constitute an hour and a half of pretentious and boring fiddle-faddle, the cinematic equivalent of the philosophical bull sessions we had in our college dorms. But in defense of the philosophical bull session: It stretched our minds at the right time in our lives, when we had the patience for ideas. Too few of us have the patience for ideas anymore, and that may be an incalculable loss. It's easy to mock films like 2 or 3 Things, to ignore their essential playfulness, their overturning of the complacent expectation that a movie should tell a story or excite or entertain us. But pause to gnaw on some of the some of the things that are said in the film, such as "To say that the limits of language, of my language, are those of the world, of my world, and that in speaking, I limit the world, I end it." Or contemplate the fact that the surface of a stirred cup of coffee looks like the spiraling of a galaxy. Or engage your eyes with cinematographer Raoul Coutard's widescreen compositions. Or question the film's obsession with commercialism, which echoes Andy Warhol's exaltation of soup cans and Brillo boxes into art. Or do anything else that the film prods you to do, including wonder why Juliette leads the life she does, and you've got at the heart of what makes Godard such a radically important filmmaker.

The Czech have their own language: Czech. Czech is very similar to the Slovak, Polish, and German languages. German would probably be considered the Czech Republic’s lingua franca. The Czech language has taken several words from German, and something like one quarter of Czech know German as a second language.

Almost half of the Czech Republic’s population know some english, and something like one in ten Czech citizens can speak it fluently. I think using english as a lingua franca would be doable in the Czech Republic, but it would still be somewhat difficult.

Thinking about words that are important such of these, that will get you by with the combination of some good meming.

I defiantly had a hard time pronouncing some of these. Having some amount of practice pronouncing those words.

I didn’t notice a lot of difference between the original and the Google translated version. The Czech version had a few more older sounding words, but for a government document that seemed normal for a government website which this was. 

How does language influence one’s view of reality?

I feel the that language generally has a huge effect on one’s view of reality. Depending on how pronouns are used in the language it could have a big effect on how people within that culture express themselves and how they think about gender.

This is the Prague Castle that was mentioned in the text sample above. That text was actually the opening remarks at a conference there, discussing the Ukraine Crisis. Here is a link to where I found the image.
