The Doctrine of Perseverance (Re)Announcement
The Doctrine of Perseverance is an indie horror and mystery game currently in development. It is being developed in RPG Maker MV and includes visual novel elements. A freeware demo was released in 2016. At the time of initial demo release, I was a senior in high school. Since then, I have spent many years developing my art and have returned to my first project. The game is still early in development, so everything is still subject to change, but I still hope you find interest in my project! I'd like to showcase some updated portraits from the 2016 version.
Melrose, the main character. The story begins on her thirteenth birthday (this portrait not yet shown), where a traumatic house fire takes place. Three years later, on Melrose's sixteenth birthday, the events of the past manifest themselves once again, showing that what happened on that day is far from over.
Suzetta, a childhood friend of Melrose. A stark contrast to Melrose, she is upbeat, mischievous, and more often than not, the most mature in their friend group. Her father is a close friend of Melrose's mom, Florence.
Silas is a friend of both Melrose and Suzetta and also Suzetta's neighbor. His family harbors distrust toward Melrose's family and the renowned 'founding families' in the city of Noxton.
For those interested in the previous rendition of the game, @flareblitzedyt has a great playthrough and playlist featuring it on Youtube. Although, I must advice that many story elements have changed since then.
The previous demo was taken down a couple of years ago, but the game page for it is still up. I intend to update it in the future. Thank you for reading, stayed tuned for additional information and screenshots!

You were always obsessed with a specific love... not one advertised in romance novels or movies, but a love that consumes and corrupts... One of obsession and possession. No matter what you did, you could never find that love...
So you decided... why not make this perfect love instead?
A game that was suppose to be made for the Yandere Jam 2023, but I didn't have enough time to finish, so now I'm going to try to finish it by the end of the summer at latest.
Game will include:
Nameable MC (Default Name, Eris) who is incredibly manipulative
Choose your own Nickname
Too many references to yandere vns (in terms of names and nickname combos)
Milo, the to-be yandere that changes appearance, personality and dialogue based on decisions.
Everything in greyscale so I don't die of coloring
Three Choices
Eight Different Endings + A Secret Ending
Maybe Extras if I can figure out how to code it in which will include some basic side stories

I’ll admit, I put this game on hold because I have been really busy with my other game. However! After the S4 drop, it lighten the fire back! And over the course of my week vacation, the script for the demo has been completed!! Just had to do some editing and get some artwork done for the demo! Luckily, I am not working alone this time! Here are some monkey sprites!

not to overstate things but truly my vilain origin story is the number of people who seem to think that 'what are useful ways to interact with visual art' is not a complex conversation that's lasted for centuries

a/n: i've been a bit stressed lately so here's some angst from that :,D also recommend listening to "Line Without a Hook" by Ricky Montgomery while reading ^^
p.s i love traveler so much they were the only ones i could include in this writing so that it would make sense cannonically T-T

"...Was it something I said to make you feel like you're a burden? Oh, and if I could take it all back; I swear that I would pull you from the tide..."
A past, present and future full of loneliness and pain. It was destined upon the yaksha since time began. A never ending cycle of hurt and karma would wash over Xiao with ever fiber of his being. Darkness was all he knew, and what he would always know.
That was, until you dropped into his life. You've heard stories of the adepti that resigned in Wangshu inn. You made it your personal mission to befriend Xiao. Even with every grunt, look of annoyance and "just stay out of my way", you felt like you were always one step closer to thaw out his frozen heart.
You never would have imagined that he would agree to a random question you had said out loud.
"What if I said I had feelings for you? Would you be able to reciprocate those feelings back to me?"
"...I never said I didn't...have those same emotions for you.."
Xiao was a gentle lover, a contrast of his usual personality towards others. Words never came easy to him, so he would show his love through little actions. He would always walk with you to Liyue Harbor from the inn, no matter how many times you said he didn't need to. He would hover his hand over your heart, claiming that it calmed him. Whenever he left at the dead of night, he always made sure to come home with a few Qingxin flowers for you as an apology for leaving you by yourself.
You savored every moment you shared with Xiao. He did as well, but for a reason different from yours. His biggest fear was hurting you, so he always made sure to stay just a little bit distant. It was a safety measure. Not only to stop you from getting hurt, but to make sure he wasn't hurt as well.
But no matter how perfect of a dream, everyone has to wake up to reality at some point. Lately Xiao has been distant, more than he usually was. There would be times where this would happen, so you let it be. For a while, at least.
It was another late cold night where Xiao wasn't home yet. You knew not to be worried, given his status of strength. Unlike the other nights he didn't come home, something in your heart was telling you to go find him, like something was wrong. You looked around the inn, stopping at the balcony. "Call my name anytime you need me. No matter how small the reason may be, don't be stubborn enough to not call my name" He said call him for whatever reason, right?
"Xiao?"
"Xiao!"
Your words echo into the air, and panic slowly rises in you. Could he really be somewhere that he couldn't hear you call for him? Making your way out of the inn, you start running to wherever you could find the adepti.
Walking through Liyue Harbor, with only the lights for street lamps and the stars illuminating the path, it took a while until you spotted your lover. He was standing at the very end of the docks, the moonlight making his features more enhanced than they were. You were about to make yourself present, until you realized that there was another person with him on the docks.
"Thank you so much for helping me out Xiao! I know it's pretty late, so I hope I didn't disturb anything."
The traveler. You were given the opportunity to meet them when they first arrived to Liyue. They immediately clicked with Xiao, instantly being one of the few people who he tolerated. Xiao often helped the traveler out, but how come he never mentioned meeting up with them?
"Tsk, it's not like I had anything better to do. Besides, I told you to call me anytime you needed help."
"I know, but still, you have my thanks!"
A beat of silence washes over. The night made it difficult to see the two, but you were able to catch the small smile Xiao made. A genuine, warm smile. It was nothing compared to the half hearted ones that were saved for you.
Everything began to click. Xiao's shift in personality started around the time the traveler showed up. He wasn't only distancing himself from you, no, he was also getting closer to others while pushing you away.
He didn't miss you calling his name. He heard you, but chose to ignore it. Ignore you. You start coming back to your senses when you heard the two start walking away from the docks.
Perhaps it was time to give Xiao the distance he always needed.
...
The sound of qingxin flowers dropping can be heard throughout the inn as Xiao looks around for you frantically. Nothing of yours was left, almost as if you never existed. On the balcony, he can feel your lingering presence as it dawns on him that you called him in this very spot just a few hours ago.
He knew what his life would look like. Maybe he was living in this dream for to long, forgetting that his fate had already been sealed.

Perfect Love Devlog #27
It was kind of tough to redesign Iya since she looks so different from her First Impressions counterpart. In my original design she had hair that looked more like Sombra from Overwatch, but to keep her recognizable I mostly just kept the hair the same. My concept for her is that she tends to dress up as characters she likes from books, which is why compared to characters like Emil and Desmond her appearance tends to differ more.
Anyways, I have three sprites for her finished and I like how I didn't learn from my mistake of doing a profile sprite of PreMilo and then attempted to do the same for Iya. Bad idea, but it is too late. It's always a bit harder because the face will have the change and I can't differ it too much lest the eyes and other parts of her face end up moving way too much. I may add some other eyes/mouths/eyebrows to her since usually while coding I end up not having as many expressions as I would have liked. Emil actually has a couple of expressions that I didn't end up using for his scene.
I'm going somewhere today, but hopefully when I come back, I can not only design one more sprite for Desmond (and add some more expressions for his old ones) as well as make the miniCGs fro Emil's story since I think other than sound, that's the only thing really missing from his route.
The discord is very inspirational and it's fun seeing everyone drawing each other's ocs and making headcannons of my game. Hopefully I can give them a very nice gift later down the line.
