If anyone can rally up a base, it’s Taylor Swift.
When sexually explicit, likely AI-generated, fake images of Swift circulated on social media this week, it galvanized her fans. Swifties found phrases and hashtags related to the images and flooded them with videos and photos of Swift performing. “Protect Taylor Swift” went viral, trending as Swifties spoke out against not just the Swift deepfakes, but all nonconsensual, explicit images made of women.
Swift, arguably the most famous woman in the world right now, has become the high-profile victim of an all-too-frequent form of harassment. She has yet to comment on the photos publicly, but her status gives her power to wield in a situation where so many women have been left with little recourse. Deepfake porn is becoming more common as generative artificial intelligence gets better: 113,000 deepfake videos were uploaded to the most popular porn websites in the first nine months of 2023, a significant increase to the 73,000 videos uploaded throughout 2022. In 2019, research from a startup found that 96 percent of deepfakes on the internet were pornographic.
The content is easy to find on search engines and social media, and has affected other female celebrities and teenagers. Yet, many people don’t understand the full extent of the problem or its impact. Swift, and the media mania around her, has the potential to change that.
“It does feel like this could be one of those trigger events” that could lead to legal and societal changes around nonconsensual deepfakes, says Sam Gregory, executive director of Witness, a nonprofit organization focused on using images and videos for protecting human rights. But Gregory says people still don’t understand how common deepfake porn is, and how harmful and violating it can be to victims.
If anything, this deepfake disaster is reminiscent of the 2014 iCloud leak that led to nude photos of celebrities like Jennifer Lawrence and Kate Upton spreading online, prompting calls for greater protections on people's digital identities. Apple ultimately ramped up security features.
A handful of states have laws around nonconsensual deepfakes, and there are moves to ban it on the federal level, too. Rep. Joseph Morelle (D-New York) has introduced a bill in Congress that would make it illegal to create and share deepfake porn without a person’s consent. Another House bill from Rep. Yvette Clarke (D-New York) seeks to give legal recourse to victims of deepfake porn. Rep. Tom Kean, Jr. (R-New Jersey), who in November introduced a bill that would require the labeling of AI content, used the viral Swift moment to draw attention to his efforts: “Whether the victim is Taylor Swift or any young person across our country—we need to establish safeguards to combat this alarming trend,” Kean said in a statement.
This isn’t the first time that Swift or Swifties have tried to hold platforms and people accountable. In 2017, Swift won a lawsuit she brought against a radio DJ who she claimed groped her during a meet-and-greet. She was awarded $1—the amount she sued for, and what her attorney Douglas Baldridge called a symbolic sum “the value of which is immeasurable to all women in this situation.”
Last fall, tens of thousands of people registered to vote after the superstar posted a link to Vote.org on Instagram. And in 2022, her fan base, so enraged after waiting hours to buy tickets to the Eras Tour only to be beaten out by bots, reignited conversation around antitrust issues with Ticketmaster and Live Nation’s mega-merger. A cringy Senate hearing followed, and an investigation into Live Nation’s agreements with venues and artists is ongoing.
Swift and her fans could advocate for legal changes at the federal level to pass. But their outrage could do something else: lead platforms to take notice. “When you have a really massive group of users saying this content is unacceptable in this very high-profile way, the power there is about what it says to the platform about what users will and won’t tolerate,” says Cailin O’Connor, a professor of philosophy at University of California, Irvine and coauthor of The Misinformation Age: How False Beliefs Spread. X did not respond to a request for comment on the images and its moderation efforts regarding deepfake porn. Elon Musk bought the site in 2022 and quickly gutted its moderation teams. Advertisers have also dropped off recently after Musk’s apparent endorsement of an antisemitic conspiracy theory.
It’s not clear whether Swift will take on this issue. A representative for Swift did not respond to a request for comment for this story. Harassment of female celebrities is frequent and often brushed aside, but deepfakes are harming them and others without the same power. This could be a moment for Swift to use her powerful platform—or at least for her fans to push the issue before the public.

December starts out strong with a daily bombardment of tons of stories about Meghan and/or Harry. Their PR backs off in the middle of the month, but only barely. Luckily for us, there is salvation: Meghan gets her first, second, third, and fourth dose of royal criticism.
Like I mentioned in the November 2017 timeline, this month sees Meghan pulling her support from Star Magazine, US Weekly, and E Online. People Magazine begins to earn her loyalty instead.

hello friends! I used to be Guy Who Does Nothing Ever for like the better part of ten years and now I'm become Guy Whose Schedule Is Too Packed (Good Way)? anyway I miss you and here and also I hate mobile tumblr but it would be so much easier to use tumblr and like chill here in a fun social way if my computer situation were not so dire that I am perpetually harnessed to my desk where the shitty desktop Corey liberated from work (managers thought it was broken bc they're too generationally wealthy to have really sat down and reckoned with bad technology before; it's just a really shit Acer) when I wish to do, non-phone things. anyway, recently I have accidentally unlocked some type of overall beneficial mania I am trying to ride out gently but that has made me become Make Stuff As Part Of My Identity and also have a lot of emotions all the time. I bought a big rolling craft cart (twice the size of the Michaels ones) off Facebook Marketplace for fifteen bucks and then Corey and I had breakfast-lunch (it deffo wasn't brunch) at a diner in the neighbourhood where our combined meals with sides and coffees totaled like sixteen dollars before tip. (this is detectivecore.) also I've started painting tshirts and I may take up the bass. I don't know who I am or what is happening too me but I am riding it all the way to the end of the goddamn track, okay!!!!!!! maybe I'm just better now!!! maybe I love to be alive!!!!!!! I've spent more of my life more or less passively suicidal than I have, not being that, since my early teens so this is like, okay. sure. nice. what. let's fucking go

but what I've noticed is that western artist stan twitter has accepted jk. I don't see anyone being racist or calling him a fraud the way they did with jimin. They were literally camped up in any jimin related tweets spreading negativity, be it lana stans or taylor stans. But now they're sudden so proud of jk for defeating morgan wallen but the reaction was completely the opposite when jimin topped the chart. Idk what it is that jk has for him to be accepted by those kind of stans so i wouldn't be surprised if he actually reaches jb heights of fame with scooters help. Bts and jimin faced a lot of backlash from western stans but not jk and that says a lot, scooter made the right choice, cause he is already treated like a western artist by people in the US. This is totally based off what I'm currently seeing online tho, i have no clue as to how he is being received outside of scmed
You might not know this yet, but let me tell you a secret... The internet is a very huge place. Like, really really big. And the world outside internet? Even bigger.
I've definitely seen people under those pop base tweets or whatever calling him fraud, saying "yeah after the 29r738 remix" and all that. So many people were literally under every seven tweet saying "latto's impact, latto carried". Just for the sake of it.
You must know Lana stans were literally saying "Jimin is our only competition". Exactly who's Jungkook supposed to compete with right now? He almost lost to a man singing about guns in front of a power point presentation.
I personally saw lots of praise for Jimin, if that's what you're concerned about. To this day, I still see it. I just saw it yesterday on this tweet too.
Last week or something I saw some compilation of screenshots of people on TikTok saying they're obsessed with this song and how it's the best song this year.
If you want to hyperfocus on the negative stuff that's on you. I'm just going to be honest and say that I can't take you or anyone like that seriously because at some point all this negativity starts to sound downright pathological to people who are on the receiving end of it. After all, you're simply not saying the whole truth, and the only reason for that is y'all's mania of clinging on to every little negative thing and never overcoming a tweet that said "Jimin flop". I see viral hate tweets against Taylor everyday, and how exactly is that affecting her?

Research
I decided to research dance moves and the shape of the body and how it moves.
I headed to the library and checked out the book 'A Century Of Dance' to explore the different styles and meaning behind them.
Over the years there has been many dance trends set. Here is a list of some oldies and more modern ones, from Chubby Checkers twist mania to the modern viral tiktoks like The Renegade.
Something that is now obvious to me is that dance is used as a form of escapism and expression. I really like how just using the body's movements you can depict all sorts of emotions and stories. Or how a person can be imitated using mannerisms unique to them. And the use of gestures can help you read a persons body language to figure out their emotional state.
Emotions
I am going to explore depicting certain emotions through movement. The movement being dance and/or gestures.
Plutchik's Wheel Model
Plutchik proposed eight basic emotions and distinguishes them according to intensity. When using colour during this brief I will come back to this wheel for reference.
My hopes are to spend the next two weeks in animation. In the past somehow my ideas have led me down a morbid path, sometimes. So I want to start this brief off by trying to create an animation that depicts a happy emotion and oozes positivity.

this article is very stupid but the thing is we have just sat down and shut up for months whenever another viral post making sweeping generalizations about sex being The Human Experience or "horniness" in visual media being More Real and therefore morally better comes along because this website and twitter spent literal years making "hey, what about ace people" into the setup of a joke with one punchline-- and even if that punchline doesn't come the response is still going to be along the lines of "well, OBVIOUSLY i didn't mean asexuals. you know what i said applies to ALMOST EVERYONE, right? you can't seriously expect every movie to cater to your lack of interest in sex" like the answer is always at best going to be affrontation and offense at the idea of having to explicitly include slash care about the treatment of ace people because that's been the party line since the major discoursers allegedly "moved on". SO WE HAVE BEEN GOOD, and not said anything, and put up with it but the mania ran out and we haven't slept in almost 24 hours and sometimes something has to give

YALL I was so scared the Duffers weren’t going to give us anything for a while.
I was even expecting the whiteboard of films/movies to not make an appearance this time around, because of how much fans have been finding very blatant parallels of s4 to other films/series. But especially when it comes to Byler, because arguably, the most talked about/viral s4 parallel was the High School Musical/rink-o-mania scene. And yet they’ve been totally crickets about it.
But now, it’s like the second day of writing ST5 and they’re out here posting a picture of that damn board, blank, hyping up their intentions to list out all the films/series that will inspire the upcoming season.
They’re paying attention, ya’ll! And it’s clear they’re excited about the masses of fans who are becoming more open to acknowledging all the hints they’ve been leaving along the way…
