How I Think Certain DuckTales (2017) Characters Might Interact With Certain Recess Characters
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ok. Here I’ll be going over how I think certain DuckTales (2017) characters might interact with certain Recess characters. It occurred to me that some of these have quite a bit in common but are also a bit different. Also, Spoiler Alert for the DuckTales (2017) TV series, the Recess TV series and the Recess: School’s Out movie. With that out of the way, let’s dive right in.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think that TJ Detweiler might get along just fine with Goldie and Louie. After all, as shown in the episode ‘Economics Of Recess’, TJ is pretty smart and is willing to use his wits to make money just like how, as shown in the episode ‘Happy Birthday Doofus Drake!’, Goldie and Louie were willing to outsmart their competition to make money. And @boingodigitalart called Goldie and Louie as well as Gosalyn the Scheme Team in his fanart posts. So, given what I said, TJ would be welcomed as a member of the Scheme Team. However, Goldie, Louie and TJ might have an interesting conversation when it comes to the concept of a childhood. After all, Goldie, as shown in the episode ‘The Golden Lagoon Of White Agony Plains!’ is more than a century old which means that she left her childhood a very, very long time ago and is probably pretty cynical about it whereas TJ, as shown in the Recess: School’s Out movie, strongly believes in making the most of your childhood and having fun before you eventually have to grow up while, as shown in the episode ‘Day Of The Only Child!’, Louie wanted to be a rich kid rather than just another kid but, at the same time, wanted to have fun just like any other kid which all probably means that he might try to be the voice of reason between Goldie and TJ. So, they might disagree a bit on a few things but might eventually come to an understanding. After all, as shown in the episode ‘The Substitute’, TJ hated authority figures and really hated Mr. E for his strictness and no-nonsense attitude but they eventually grew to respect each other. So, if TJ was able to come to an understanding with an authority figure which is the type of person he usually hates the most, he’ll certainly be able to come to an understanding with another troublemaker which would probably be the type of person he loves the most.

How I think Webby and Lena might interact with Spinelli and Gus pretty much comes down to Spinelli’s and Gus’ history with fighting for Webby and how Spinelli and Gus handle their emotions for Lena. Webby, as shown in the episode ‘Escape From The ImpossiBin!’, loves fighting and was trained to be a great fighter by her grandma Beakley. Spinelli, as shown in the episode ‘First Name Ashley’, is very aggressive and loves to fight. And Gus, as shown in the episode ‘Gus’ Last Stand’, learned to stand up to a bully thus inspiring a whole playground of kids to stand up to him as well which Webby might like to hear about given that, as shown in the episode ‘From The Confidential Casefiles Of Agent 22!’, she can be quite optimistic and inspirational. So, given all that, Webby might like to spar with Spinelli and Gus and give them some training. Spinelli, given what I said about how she loves fighting, would probably be very enthusiastic about the training, especially after finding out that Beakley, the woman who trained Webby, was, as also shown in the episode ‘From The Confidential Casefiles Of Agent 22!’, a secret agent. After all, it’s not every day you get to be trained by someone who received training from a secret agent. As for Gus, he would probably take to the training too considering that, as shown in the episode ‘The Substitute’, he accepted some martial arts training from Mr. E and, as shown in the episode ‘Gus’ Last Stand’, he seemed to look up to his dad who is a U.S. Army Officer. On that note, I noticed that Webby, Spinelli and Gus were all raised by people who were involved with the military in some way. Webby was raised by her grandma Beakley who, as shown in the episode ‘From The Confidential Casefiles Of Agent 22!’, was a secret agent who worked for SHUSH. Spinelli was raised by her parents who, as shown in the episode ‘Parents’ Night’, were government agents. And Gus was partly raised by his dad who, as I already pointed out, was a U.S. Army Officer. As for how I think Lena might interact with Spinelli and Gus, I think that Lena would respect Spinelli and Gus quite a bit. Lena might respect Spinelli because, as I pointed out earlier, Spinelli is quite aggressive and Lena is quite aggressive too as shown in the episode ‘The Split Sword Of Swanstantine!’, where Lena wanted to smash a tile containing a piece of the Sword Of Swanstantine with a hammer in order to get the piece. So, both Lena and Spinelli are fully willing to embrace their aggression and anger to get the job done. Also, despite their aggressive sides, Lena and Spinelli both have their artistic sides too. After all, as shown in the episode ‘The Shadow War Part 2: The Day Of The Ducks!’, Lena wrote a poem explaining how she came into existence and, as shown in the episode ‘Spinelli’s Masterpiece’, Spinelli made a gigantic drawing of the school and its playground. And Lena and Spinelli both learned a thing or 2 about accepting emotions given that, as also shown in the episode ‘The Split Sword Of Swanstantine!’, Lena coached Huey to accept his anger and, as shown in the episode ‘That Stinking Feeling’, Spinelli learned to accept her feelings for Johnny V which allowed her to then overcome them. So, Lena and Spinelli have quite a few similarities which means that they both might respect each other. As for Gus, Lena might respect him too since he, as I already pointed out earlier, stood up to a bully which then inspired the whole playground to stand up to him too. After all, that might remind Lena of how she, as shown in the episode ‘The Shadow War Part 2: The Day Of The Ducks!’, stood up to her aunt Magica De Spell. So, they both overcame their fear to stand up to someone.

As shown in the Recess: School’s Out movie, Gretchen is pretty smart and loves science. And, as shown in the episode ‘The Most Dangerous Game…Night!’, Gyro is a very smart scientist who was able to make a shrink ray. So, Gretchen might want to learn from Gyro. However, as shown in the episode ‘The Great Dime Chase!’, Gyro can be quite arrogant to an extreme fault and is quite cynical. So, that might make working with Gyro a bit difficult for Gretchen. But Gretchen has had experience with very cynical people she wanted to learn from before as shown in the episode ‘Gretchen And The Secret Of Yo’ where she was able to learn from and get through to a yo-yo expert named Tommy Tate and even pretty much became friends with him despite him brushing her off at first. Plus, as shown in the episode ‘Astro B.O.Y.D.’, Gyro seemed to be optimistic back in the day and also learned to treat BOYD like a real boy and even grew to respect Fenton. So, Gretchen might be able to get through to Gyro and learn from him. As for what Gretchen might think of Gyro’s relationship with BOYD, I think that she might be rather perplexed by it at first before then coming around and accepting it and the fact that BOYD is just like any real boy. After all, as shown throughout the Recess franchise, Gretchen never encountered a fully sentient AI before and, as shown in the episode ‘The Last Adventure! Part 2: The Lost Library Of Isabella Finch!’, Gyro developed a father-son relationship with BOYD as well as Lil Bulb, another fully sentient AI. So, Gretchen might have a difficult time wrapping her head around it. But I think Gretchen might come around and accept it and the fact that BOYD is just like any real boy after observing how BOYD feels emotion and reacts to situations in a similar way to how a real boy would. After all, as shown in the episode ‘The Experiment’, Gretchen makes conclusions based on observation just like pretty much any scientist. Also, this all might get Gretchen intrigued by BOYD and his sentience to the point that she might be curious to see if the AI in her handheld computer, Galileo, can be made fully sentient or not. After all, as shown in the episode ‘The Experiment’, Gretchen can be quite curious and inquisitive and, as shown in the episode ‘The Girl Was Trouble’, Gretchen went through a lot of trouble to try to get Galileo back. So, that might mean that Gretchen might be curious about if Galileo were to be fully sentient.

As shown in the episode ‘The Principals Of Golf’, Vince really likes playing sports. And, as shown in the episode ‘The Golden Spear!’, both Della and her son Dewey really like going on adventures. And, since playing sports and going on adventures both involve great athletic abilities, I think that Vince might get along just fine with Della and Dewey given that they all spend quite a bit of their time putting their athletic abilities to the test. Also, I think that Della and Dewey would both like to talk about sports with Vince albeit for different reasons. As shown in the episode ‘Raiders Of The Doomsday Vault!’, Della is a seeker of thrills who likes to face off against danger. So, Della might enjoy playing sports that might really get her adrenaline pumping like boxing for example. As for Dewey, he might want to ask Vince to show off his sports skills on his Dewey Dew-Night show. And, as shown in the Dewey Dew-Night! shorts, Dewey wants his Dewey Dew-Night show to become popular. And I think that Vince might say yes since he, as shown in the episode ‘The Principals Of Golf’, helped Principal Prickly beat his brother Paul and Paul’s teammate Foster in a game of golf. Also, I think that Dewey and Vince would really enjoy hanging out with each other given that they both can be pretty eccentric. As shown in the episode ‘The Duck Knight Returns!’, Dewey is really passionate about the Rule Of Cool. And, as shown in the episode ‘The Barnaby Boys’, Vince was really passionate about a mystery book. And I think that Della might enjoy seeing her son Dewey hang out with Vince. After all, as shown in the episode ‘Nothing Can Stop Della Duck!’, Della cares about her sons and really loves them. So, Della might enjoy seeing her son have a new friend. And I also think that Della might want to join in too. Also, I think that Della would like to do some stunts as well as play sports with Vince on her son’s Dewey Dew-Night show to help Vince make Dewey’s show more popular. After all, as shown in the episode ‘The Richest Duck In The World!’, Della let Dewey interview her on his Dewey Dew-Night show.
Well, that’s all for this post.
See you all next time.

What are the clothing styles of T.J. Detweiler and his friends?
They almost always wear the same iconic outfits:
T.J.: His white t-shirt, blue jeans, gray leather jacket, red sneakers, and red baseball cap. Simple yet cool.
Spinelli: Her big red t-shirt (I'm pretty sure it's an oversized t-shirt and not a dress, since she can't stand anything girly), orange and brown striped leggings, gray jacket, big gray combat boots that used to belong to her brother Vito, and orange ski cap. The whole ensemble screams "tough girl."
Vince: His off-white, blue-trimmed t-shirt, bright green "1" jersey, gray shorts, and black and white high-tops. As sporty as can be.
Gretchen: Her old-fashioned blue dress with its white sleeves and pink sash, pink socks, and saddle shoes. Outdated and nerdy-looking yet cute.
Mikey: His cream-colored t-shirt, brown pants, and gray "tennies." Ultra-simple and comfortable, as suits a free-spirited bohemian soul.
Gus: His tucked-in, button-down, gray-green collared t-shirt, camo gray pants, white socks, brown loafers, and wristwatch. Disciplined, militaristic, and nerdy, in keeping with his upbringing.

New school, New you.
(A Recess x New Kid!Reader fic)
Tumblr media
(AN: This is a part two to my previous x reader fic, I have aged all the characters up to highschool to account for language and more modern references. Probably a few OOC characters, but overall, I tried to stick to the characters original concepts.)
🔔📝🔔📝🔔📝🔔📝🔔📝🔔📝🔔📝🔔📝
Admittedly, you weren't expecting your first encounter with a fellow student to end up with you getting dragged around the Third-Street school's back lot. Ashley Spinelli pulls your arm, yanking you up a set of concrete stairs, giving you a decent view of the playground. Gus quickly grabs his marbles and follows the two of you, almost tripping as he scuffs one of his loafers on the bottom step. He lets out a yelp, prompting Spinelli to roll her eyes.
"Alright, new kid. Lemme get you caught up with the, uh-" Spinelli trails off, trying to think of a word to describe how the playground works. "Hierarchy?" Gus interjects. "Sure, yeah, that's what I was gonna say." Spinelli looks back over the playground and whispers "Geek...". Motioning to the center of the playground, a large jungle gym emerges. Bright red and green slides, blue climbing bars, and various other contraptions cover the structure, giving it a rather grand look, despite it just being playground equipment for an under-funded school. "See that guy up at the top?" Spinelli points upwards, to a boy sitting on top of the structure with a crown. You squint harder, noticing the crown seems to be more of a craft project than an actual crown. "Is he wearing a crown made out of-" "A baseball helmet? Yeah, I think so, no one's really sure where he got it from." Gus responds, answering your question for you. You get the feeling that's been asked a lot.
"That's King Bob, our schools dear leader." Gus holds his hand over his chest, eyes wide in admiration. You tilt your head in confusion, and Spinelli lightly smacks him on the back of the head, leading him to scramble as his glasses fall off. "Yeah, what Gus said. You're new, so you're definitely gonna have to meet the King at some point." Your posture tenses, getting a little smaller. "Um, why?" You ask. "He likes to keep tabs on all his, 'subjects.', y'know?" Spinelli uses some heavy finger quotes around subjects, giving you the impression not all his policies are popular on the playground.
🔔📝🔔📝🔔📝🔔📝🔔📝🔔📝🔔📝🔔📝
"Now, check out the dude under the tree over there." A guy in a trench coat can be seen leaning against a tree, eyes shifting back and forth as if checking for teachers. "That's Hustler Kid. He sells extra study guides, toys, snacks, and banned books. 'Long as it won't get him in trouble if you're caught, he'll sell it to ya." Spinelli explains, and Hustler kid seems to be sure the coast is clear, as he takes out a pack of smokes. "I thought he didn't sell stuff that could get kids in trouble?" You ask. Spinelli nods, "He doesn't. Those cigs are his, only his. I've made that mistake before." she sighs in exasperation. Gus scrambles back up the steps.
"Spinelli! You knocked my glasses halfway across the playground!" He complains, panting as he rests for a moment, hands on his knees. Spinelli only chuckles, folding her arms. "Didn't ask, Gus." You giggle a little at this, and Spinelli shoots you a grin. "Have you mentioned the Ashley's yet? T-That's kind of important." Gus trails off, freezing as if he recalling a harsh memory. "Good one Gus. Give em' the rundown, I gotta go to the bathroom." Spinelli heads out, casually punching your shoulder as she walks by. "The Ashley's are the meanest girls on the playground. They know everything that happens on the playground." He gets real quiet, and looks around quickly before repeating himself softly. "Everything." You nod, brows furrowed in concern. "The worst of them is Ashley A." You follow his gaze and see a gaggle of four fashionably dressed girls. One stands out, a girl with long brown hair dresses in purple sits in the middle. "Her dad is rich, and if she says she'll ruin your life, she means it. Whatever she says, goes.". "Have you had a problem with the Ashleys before, Gus?" You ask. He shudders. "I don't like to talk about it..." He mumbles, and you nod awkwardly.
🔔📝🔔📝🔔📝🔔📝🔔📝🔔📝🔔📝🔔📝
"Yo, Gus!" A loud voice rings out from a few feet away, causing you and Gus to turn your attention towards the voice. A tall boy in a basketball jersey jogs up the stairs. "Hey, we need a ref for kickball, 'think you can sub in?" The boy asks, foot tapping as he speaks. He clearly has quite a bit of energy, and seems desperate to get back to his game.
"I can't Vince, Spinelli's having me give the new kid a tour of the playground." Gus explains, gesturing to where you're stood. You give a small wave. "Oh shit, we got a new kid?" Vince says. "Language!" Gus squeaks, only to be brushed past. Vince leans up against the building in front of you, extending his free hand. "Hey, Im Vince, Vince LaSalle. Where you from?" He seems to look you over, as if unsure what to think of you just yet. "I'm just a transfer, it's my first day." You explain. "Spinelli caught you yet?" He asks with a laugh. "Yeah, she's, interesting..." He nods. "Are you any good at sports?" You shrug. "I mean, I was on the swim team at my old school, but I don't play many team sports." You admit. Vince sighs, but seems satisfied. "Well, I'm sure we can find something for you to do, maybe an equipment manager..." He pauses, and puts his hand on his head as if thinking.
"Or maybe, they just don't want to play sports?" Spinelli suggests, having returned from the restroom. Vince looks shocked, fumbling the ball in his hands and exclaiming "What! It's kickball, that's like, everything!" He seems almost offended. "It's everything to you, Vince." Spinelli slaps her hand on the underside of his ball, knocking it up out of his hands. He doesn't even flinch, now locked in a staring match with Spinelli. "Gus, go the ball." He says, and Gus only sighs before running to retrieve it. You're left with the pair, awkwardly looking back and forth between them. "Um, well..." You try to think of what to say to diffuse the situation. "Maybe I could go and watch you play sometime?" This seems to snap Vince out of his eye-brawl, and he looks over to you. "Yeah?" He asks. You nod. "Okay, yeah... cool!" He nods as he thinks, trying to suppress his grin. Spinelli gags. "Jeez, Vince. You're cheesin' harder than Mikey when we read 'Romeo and Juliet'. Knock it off." She groans, prompting an embarrassed look to spread across the boy's face. "Whatever, I gotta get back to my game." He turns around, hoping no one noticed the light blush dusting his face. "See ya' later, new kid". He calls, heading back to his Kickball game. Just as he leaves, Gus returns to the stairs, panting heavily. "Wha- where'd he go?" Gus asks, and Spinelli grins. "Just wandered off... who knows why?" Gus groans.
"I had to run halfway across the playground for this ball..."

day*Sits in the Teacher’s Lounge and hears the bell ring.*
Hey everyone, Quinn the Loremistress of the Gay Canon here, and after a two month break due to depression I AM BACK! This time we’ll be doing a series of RETRO-Rewatches and thoughts on some old time favorite cartoons from my childhood! A quick disclaimer on this, I WILL BE tossing out QUEER / LGBTQIA* / GNC headcanons, story ideas and more. IF YOU DO NOT LIKE THIS then, um, whatever, go to another page :D
As this is my FIRST of the Retro-rewatches I’ll try to establish a frame here. First, I’ll go through about 5-7 episodes each with thoughts on each self-contained vingette. I’ll keep up my hottakes, and then lay out how I see a good fanfic or even fanon arising from this series. Since THIS SERIES deals with kids I want to emphasize that any and ALL story ideas I write will focus on College Age or more for things!
Anyway *Blows her Whistle* RECESS IS ON!
Episode 1
The Break In - We learn about the playground and the organizatino of its poli, tics and personalities. TJ, the leader of our gang, is captured after trying to get “The Good Food”. We get a good show off of the gang including Grethin’s intelligence Mikey’s drama, and Spinelli’s tenacity. Vince remains our sports star (which is perhaps a bit of an obvious racist stereotype here), and the one who refuses to just directly insult the King (Bob is himself pretty...over the top).
The New Kid - This episode speaks a lot to the school transfer experience. To me, it means a lot to see Gus standing up for himself and telling the kids his name. To me this sets up some nice ideas for some fae stories. Honestly, this story mostly focuses on how its important to deny erasure of yourself, and to rebel in the face of tyranny. That and how cool of a character every single member of the gang is!
Episode 2
The Experiment - We see the first example of the Jimmy Cratner stories and we learn how Butch got the white-streak in his hair. Of course, he gets the freak out from seeing his brother kiss a girl. This sets up our kiss experiment between Spinelli and TJ. Honestly, this is where I consider them a cute pair, but honestly not “destined” to date down the road. Plus, oh god, I do love the introduction of Randall as the evil little swindler.
The Great Jungle Gym Standoff - Old Rusty is going to replaced the iconic Jungle Gym must be replaced from years of slowly falling apart. The kids make a stand off and later their parents join them. I think ,this was one of the ones made before Gus’ arrival since he’s completely gone in this episode. It sets a nice tone though about how the kids see their playground and how their parents aren’t always against them.
Episode 3
Jinxed - Gus is introduced to the “KIds Unwritten Code of Honor” and the Jinx curse is dropped on him. The Ashley’s little dastardly intro is nicely done, as it shows how much these kids can be bullys. This episode really establishes Gus’ Lawful Good take on the Code. We’ll see this later during the Tattletale episode which makes it even far more interesting. Gotta love how Gus does a bad trade for a Harmonica and a bunch of music from the same instrument.
Officer Mikey - Wow Mikey sets his eyes on one of his silly hobbies (I say this because it’s part of the joke of the story). It does help that this is an example of how kids change their dreams on a whim at times. This is a typical trade and fetch quest story. The gang must bounce between various points so that they can make Mikey live his dream for a day. He immediately quits because it was too hard, almost unleashing the anger of Spinelli.
Episode 4
First Name Ashley - The eponymous “Ashleys” learn of Spinelli’s first name after Randall reveals it. The little snitch loses standing in Finster’s Outfit and thus begins the well known takeover of Spinelli into the Ashley’s. Luckily the gang manipulate the Clique rules of the playground to get her out. I like this story because it really builds the foundation for why the Ashley’s don’t the Gang. It also sets up one of the more interest dynamics between Ashley A and the others.
To Finster In Love - Finster finding love is an interesting story as while she’s seen a major antagonist along with Prickly in the series she really is a good person. Hank is a great character who really highlights the wonders of custodians in schools. It also shows how manipulative TJ and the kids can be. I think it really gives us a good idea that the playground has a pretty well established hierarchy and without it goes to hell, fast.
Episode 5
King Gus - King Bob is struck with laryngitis leading to us to see Gus become King. Originally a figurehead to the King’s advisors his head closely swells and he finds himself instituting a lot of tyrannical new decrees. The kids try to see King Gus and face the bereaucracy of the Playground. I do love how the Sixth Graders illustrate war via dodgeballs which is even more important with Gus’ background. Gus is quickly dethrone by King Bob and is sent back to being a nobody.
Big Brother Chad - Yes, we are introduce to geekdom, and we learn that Vince’s big bro is an Urkelesque geek. Honestly this particular episode really sets things up on how instead of being a toxic geek we need to be nice. Chad doesn’t look down on others he has fun with programming and playing 3D chess. He doesn’t see himself as anything bad. Vince’s werewolf dream of becoming a ageek is so over the top I fucking love it soooo much. NEATO!
Perhaps the best part of this particular vignette is how even Geeks should protect and can back their family.
Episode 6
My Fair Gretchin - A aptitude test shows Gretchin’s genius and she attempts her best to fail. This particular ep reveals Prickly’s focus on using achievements to become a Middle School Principal. Gretchin appears in the middle of a test dressed in a strange 80s / 90s styled outfit. Spouting weird dumb response such as Dennis Rodman is the President. What we learn later is she is allowed to stay while staying as a tutor to the rest of Third Street’s faculty.
Speedy We Hardly Knew Ye - The class hamster passes away and hte Gang decides to call for funeral. We learn an entire series of hamster generations has connected with a variety grades. Speedy the Hamster has been an icon of Third Street school extending their way all the way back to the current Bus Drivers which means people well into their forties knew Speedy. Hell, even the Mayor pops up.
The fact that they kept changing out the Hamsters and no one figured it out is just so bloody weird. It does make sense, if you want a long living pet for the Class for several years you’d do something like a Bearded Dragon or a Chinchilla. But Speedy himself like much in school represents a lot for kids even through the generations. The Canon - Thoughts!
So let’s begin Double Ashley aka Spinelli and Ashley A or Ashley B is perhaps one of my favorite possible pairings. Then there is Spinelli and Gretchin but honestly I prefer these two mixing up with the Ashleys since it shows nerd and preppy love!
Honestly, Recess has a lot of good opportunities for later life gay story telling. Kurst the Worst as a local baker dating Mikey would be adorbs. TJ and Laws as boyfriends and running their own game shop perhaps. Vince as a big time baller and supporting his friends while Gus is military veteran councilor. Skies are the limit here. So far I’ll focus on my favorite should be Gretchin and Spinelli, but nah and nope. I could easily seeing someone writing Gus or even Mikey as trans perhaps.
Who knows, I write Trans HP so who knows. I’ll have more thoughts once I sleep on these episodes and watch a few more!
Hottakes:
The intro of the New id wow those bring back memories of being singalled out in school.
Gus in the Jinx sitch is far more interesting when we see the Freudian expert show up.
Chad is a great non-creepy Geek and he has not obvious toxic masculinity.
Speedy was a nie hamster. Most Hamsters are not nice I say this as a bloody petcare specialist! Fuck those little devils!
Love how instead of Jesus Christ or God, the kids say “Mike”. I wonder who “MIKE” is.
The fact that nobody realize that Hamsters only live for two years is beyond fucking hilarious. Even the Mayor was foolish enough to believe the ruse!

Okay so this is super random. But I found Recess on Disney+ and I’ve always loved Recess so much! Anyway I remember a long time ago I read a fanfic and now I’m looking for it. It’s a Recess fanfic where TJ and Vince are helping Spinelli train and practice her wrestling so that she can fight in some kind of fight club. And it turns out one of Spinellis brothers runs the fight club. If anyone has any idea what this fic was called or where I can find it please let me know!!!
